My Computer Constantly Freezes Up

Q: My Computer Constantly Freezes Up

I had this problem before. Although I am not sure it was the same error message. I got advice from this site and my computer worked fine for several months. Now my Asus laptop works fine for several days. I do a search in Foxfire or IE, everything is working ok and then for no apparent reason the screen freezes up and the hour glass icon that shows the page is downloading goes on indefinately. I have to use my retore disk to get it to work again. I have Vista on this computer. I downloaded Service Pack 2 and all the other updates I needed.

I had windows 7 for a month and everything was just fine. But my computer started freezing and restarting randomly just a few days ago. It got to the point when the screen would freeze at startup - you know, when the windows logo shows up? So I reformatted my computer to windows xp (all my files and programs are erased from existence!) but it still freezes at startup when the windows logo comes up. Sometimes i get "lucky" and i actually get to the desktop screen, I would poke around a little and then BOOM- the screen turns weird colors and my mouse cant move. I am forced to restart my computer and continue this crazy loop. I dont know where to look for help. I would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Hello, a couple of days ago, my sister went to some website to watch a tv show and the computer froze minutes after she left the website. I ran a scan with malwarebytes, and it found a bad registry on my computer. I choose to remove the registry, but the computer still freezes. So as of right now, I get no pops or error messages. The computer just freezes at random times. It usually does this an hour or twenty minutes after I start the computer or when its loading the OS. I was able to get a DDS log but when I went into safe mode and tried to get a GMER log, it froze right after it finished scanning. I hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance.

My computer has been constantly freezing each time I boot it up. there is no blue screen, it just freezes on whatever image its displaying. Sometimes I'll be lucky to get one minute out of it without it freezing. And when it freezes I have to reboot it. I tried Safe Mode and it doesn't freeze while in it.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

A:Computer constantly freezes.

Welcome

Actually you gave us quite a few clues. Try a clean boot, if it freezes, then the problem is probably a driver, if it does not freeze follow the clean boot instructions and find the problem. I am guessing the anti virus.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

My brother was over at my dorm earlier this week...I think went on my computer and downloaded some games, or music or something. It has been freezing more and more since then, especially while using media center, or other music programs. The screen stays the same, but becomes unresponsive, audio skips like a broken record. My cpu usage also seems to roller coaster. This problem is becoming worse and worse. Please help, I think you guys may know what to do. I've tried running all sorts of virus scans, etc(McAfee, avg, spybot, Malwarebytes.) I also ran MSConfig to try to weed out some startup programs... But the problem still persist.

Basically, my problem is that my computer just randomly freezes whilst I am using it.. I don't know if it is a heat-related issue or not because this morning it froze when my computer was only 20 degrees Celcius. I have tried using Ccleaner, disabling startup processes that I don't need, and use GameBooster. What else can I do?
Please help, this is really irritating

These are my PC Specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte G31M-ES2L
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4700 @ 2.60GHz
RAM: 1014MB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series

Also, I am looking at temperatures for my computer, so I'll post a picture of them just in case it is a heat-related issue.

Im extremely frustrated, computer keeps freezing not sure why. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. Also when it freezes i turn the power switch off on the back and then i get a noise from the speakers that sounds like someone tapping on a the desk. How can i discover the problem?

The computer is just over 2 years old.
I have a p4 3 ghz processor, 768 mb of ram, Ati radeon x700 video card.

My computer has been constantly freezing the past couple of days. It is a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home and 2 GB of RAM. It started freezing shortly after I would reboot. Both the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond. It had been a while since I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows, so I decided to try that. The weird part is, the computer actually freezes up during the reinstall process. It gets to 33 minutes of the reinstall of Windows XP and then asks me to set the Regional Settings. When I try to move the mouse to click Next, the mouse doesn't move. If I try to just press Enter to click Next, nothing happens. Not sure what could be causing this. It appears the fan is working fine, so I don't think it's overheating. Thanks for any help.

Hey everyone, I have a Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1 Sony Vaio x64 laptop.  It constantly freezes and the problem has been getting more frequent.  There is no pattern that I can see.  It may run fine for a little while, or within a few minutes it will freeze.  The mouse will not move and Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't respond.  I have to do a hard shutdown when it happens. What should I do? Thanks!

Hi all, here are the various log files as instructed. My laptop (winxp system) is taking ages to start up and every time i try to open up a folder/browser or any other action, it freezes for a good while before it resumes the action. Essentially what usually would take a second to do is now taking 5 minutes. I've tried to run the avg virus scan but it just hangs after about 40+ minutes of scanning, the same thing happens to the lavasoft ad aware scan too. I appreciate any/all help.

Like the topic title says, my computer has recently become very slow and is constantly freezing...I tried to clean it up using the preparation guide but, so far, nothing seems to have changed. I'm very careful with my downloads and web activity, so I have no idea why it's behaving like this - the biggest changes I've made were to install MS Office 2007 (which takes about 5 minutes to load each time) and I upgraded my Internet service (they offered a free Security package download, which I took advantage of).Well, here's my HijackThis log! My computer keeps freezing, why?

Every time I'm using it, it doesn't matter what program i open, it just freezes. Well what i mean is that my windows explorer stops working and a message pops up saying that windows explorer has stopped working. when i look at the details it says that the problem name is: In Page Error. I really dont understand what that means or refers to. Other programs stop responding as well, practically EVERY program does, but more often its windows explorer that stops working and restarts over and over. Hi,

Number of problems with my laptop but the main one now is that it constantly freezes (every 5 mins or so).
I wanted to post a log here from HijackThis but it says "your system denied write access to the Hosts".

Also both Malwarebytes & Avast! freeze the computer when I scan my computer for infections (this was happening a few months before the freezing every 5 mins started).

Really need to get this sorted now so I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Gubbo

My computer started to freeze within 5 minutes of logging on and never finished loading, well it appeared so. I first opened Task Managaer to see what was using up the cpu and it appeared to be services.exe. I ran an anti-virus scan and it found a trojan which was disinfected. I then searched for the file name services.exe and it found several, i was advised to keep the one in system 32 and delete the rest, which i did. However the computer still freezes after logging on and i have to enter safe mode to allow me to use the computer. I opened task manager and services.exe is not eating up the cpu this time and nothing else seems to be, but i may be mistaken.

Hi. I despratly need some help. I am 16 and my parents got a new compaq persario s4020wm desktop a little under a year ago. Ever since we have had it, it does nothing but freeze on us. We bought some memory, took it to a computer professional, spybot, etc. We sent it back to compaq and they did a complete check and it wasnt anything that they could fix. After the first 218 MB memory upgrade it did goof for about 3 or 4 months. It sometimes freezes over 10 times a day and gets so bad that I dont even start it up sometimes. I am trying to finish up papers and what not because im graduationg this year but I cant with this computer. Alot of people say "well I guess you just got a bad apple, go and get a dell". Me nor my parents have the money for a new computer right now and I dont see why this one isnt working. Please someone with some expiernce give me some input. I have 736MB or ram installed right now and it freezed twice while registering for this website.

A:I dont know what to do. Computer freezes constantly

I'll probably sound stupid for this but honestly, just sounds to me like you need to remove the case, get a nice big fan and set it right there up next to your computer, cause it sounds like you're overheating. Either that or try switching your ram around (take one strip and put it in the other's slot, take that strip put it in the other slot).

Figured I'd just throw it out there...

Since day one I have encountered constant computer freezing and lock-ups, first it happened in the bios. After that; during the os install. Not just once but multiple times, requiring me to start from the beginning. I'm talking almost a dozen times just to get the os installed.

After the install, if it wasn't freezing during boot or during startup it was freezing at the desktop. If I was lucky I could get just a few minutes out of it before it would freeze. (I should mention after it froze if I didn't hold the pwr button down until it shut off I would have to wait a few minutes and it would shut itself off)

Needless to say I can't do much to try and figure out the problem.
After doing some research, I guessed it could be one of 3 things: psu, mobo or ram.

I started with the cheapest of those and replaced the ram today. Everything was going great, booted flawlessly. Started windows, f... Read more

My computer has been freezing and restarting a lot lately. It cannot go more than 1 hour without doing so. It happens especially when I go to game. I'm not sure what could be causing it. I do know that it is not an overheating issue in the computer. I have 3 fans running in it. It is also not a memory issue I have 2gb of RAM and 300g Hardrive. It is also not a dust issue, I've my computer and everything seems to be clean. I have also disable that my computer does not restart during systems failures through the BIOS and also through my computer. Not sure what is causing it, but any help would great greatly appreciated. (Surprised I was able to post hehe)

A:Computer constantly freezes and restarts on its own.

A computer that freezes is usually caused by overheating or a failing Power Supply Unit. Even though you have done this, Take the side off the of the computer and blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. Start the computer and make sure all fans are spinning. Look at the label for the PSU and report the Make, Model# and Wattage. Boot into Setup (Bios) and go to PC Health or some such, Post +12V line for the PSU and the temperatures.
Also try running in a Clean Boot.

So I have a windows 7 computer and the problem is that for some reason my computer freezes up or restarts itself and when it is back on, the lan hardware is no longer working (it appears to say that either the lan is not plugged in or that the hardware is broken). So, I restart my computer again and the lan problem is no longer an issue. However, the computer goes back to the same cycle after a few minutes or hours. I have check for viruses, spyware, checked for registry problem, defragmented my computer and the problem still occurs. I am pretty good with computers but this problem appears to not go away and it is pretty annoying. Please help me out.

My computer is custom made
it is using windows 7 ultimate, it has a Intel motherboard which is DP35DP media series.
I have 8gigs of ram, Intel core 2 quad cpu model number Q9550 @ 2.83ghz.
1.5 tb of harddrive, ATI RADEON HD 4800 series graphics card, and a network adapter pci (since my motherboard network lan is not working)

If anyone needs more information do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for the help

Is this problem with the onboard LAN or the PCI NIC? Have you updated the drivers?

A:my computer constantly freezes on start up

Welcome to TSF.

Let's try fixing some of these and also disable some programs to make sure they are not causing the startup problems:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If y... Read more

My computer recently began to freeze, about the time when I updated to Firefox 3.6. At first I thought it was just the internet that was messed up, but it began to freeze even though I wasn't using the internet. Randomly it would just freeze, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few seconds. I have to hit the power button because leaving it alone for a while won't work. I tried to clean the registry but it didn't work. I have a Windows XP, its a desktop computer, I have Intel, and its about 4 years old. if you need any more info please ask! I've had many problems with this computer but I can't afford to buy another one for another two years. Please help! I don't know what else to do.

Hi!
I'm kind of new to this, but I think I've followed the 5 steps correctly (although i couldn't find out how to find the extra.txt-file).

My computer started to act weirdly about three days ago. Almost everytime I watch a movie or a clip my computer slows down really much, and a lot of times it freezes completely, forcing me to reboot. It also happens when I browse the internet, although not as often. Which is why I'm not able to finish the Panda Scan.

Hope you'll understand my not so developed swedish-english, and if you need the extra.txt, please advice me on how to get it. Just getting the main.txt when dss finishes.

Thanks for posting anew and posting the link to your post in the Malware Logs forum >Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the logs you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on, the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. Hello, Techsupportforum. I've been plagued by this problem for years now and I just got sick of it. What's been going on is that my computer freezes, makes a jarring sound when it does, and will stay this way for anywhere between thirty seconds and ten or so minutes. This mostly happens when I am actively doing something on my computer such as browsing the web or playing a game. This can happen as many as a dozen times a day, or once a week. Below is a copy of my system from Speccy64. Some information not included is that I use Avast and Malwarebytes for anti-virus. In the past I've used SpyBot S&D, Microsoft Security Essentials, and AVG. All of them tell me my computer is virus free, so I'm pretty positive it isn't a virus-related problem. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help.

A:[SOLVED] My computer freezes constantly and inconsistently.

Hello mate.

Couple of Q's if you don't mind;
Where is the sound coming from; the PC, or speakers do you think?
The virtual drive; Is there an ISO attached to it constantly? GCP (I find) is to disabling any virtual drives you're not actively using.
Wouldn't hurt to check your NVidia drivers up to date also - You can do this by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop, select 'NVidia Control Panel', 'Help', 'System Info' and let me know the installed driver version.

That should get the ball rolling!

A couple weeks back I got the good ol' "Malware Defense" thing pop up and tell me I had all sorts of problems. I looked around the 'net and found lots of potential solutions, and seemed to have it all taken care of after various scans with Malwarebytes and other software. However in the last few days the computer frequently freezes up, and it doesn't seem to happen during a certain activity or anything like that-just at random. I don't know if it's related. I've continued to run many scans, and sometimes they come up with nothing, and other times they will find problems and fix them, which makes me think new malware (or something bad...) keeps getting frequently added to the computer. Oddly, while I'm running scans and things like that, I don't believe it's ever frozen. But when the computer is really in use, that is when the problems arise. I've tried a few more things today to try and fix it, and haven't had any problems, though I haven't been on the computer all that much since the last 4 hours were taken up by scans. So, I'm hoping maybe someone here can take a look at the logs I have created using the guidelines from this forum, and see if anything stands out, or if there's anything else I need to do.The DDS.txt log is seen below, and the attach.txt and ark.txt files are attached. I believe that is what I need for now.-------------------------------------DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Tom and Sarah... Read more

A:Had Malware Defense, and now computer freezes constantly

Just to update really quickly, the problem HAS in fact continued (I had said originally I hadn't had any more problems that day). It froze probably 4 or 5 times yesterday in a fairly short amount of time being used. Also, if this information helps any, when it freezes, I still have usage of the mouse, as far as movement. Clicking on anything does nothing, but I can still move the curser around, as opposed to the type of freezing when nothing at all works. Thanks, hope someone can help!

Well for about a few days now my computer will randomly freeze and wont work. Two weird things that happen also, 1 my keyboard stops working and these weird blue squiggly lines appear all over my screen whilst it is frozen. http://i62.tinypic.com/2h7q8fl.jpg as you can hopefully see here :$ this is the best screenshot unfortunately I could take. Please help in any way you can, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,I'm running windows XP, and recently received an email that I was told was not sent by the person it said on the email. I assumed it was a virus that attached to my friend's address book. Since then, my computer has slowed down considerably. It also freeezes a few times a day and I have to reboot the computer. I have AVG anti-virus, and have run several scans that have not found anything. I have also run malwarebytes and spybot which have also come back clean. I still feel there is something wrong. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks

Just recently my computer started doing this. Every 15-20 seconds or so, the computer will hang up for about 3 seconds, just did it right now, then has to catch up to what I'm typing or doing. As I watch it in the performance tab in the Task Manager, and it just did it again, the CPU Usage spikes from 10%-ish all the way to 100%. The page file usage memory remains constant. And it just froze again. Three times for typing just several sentences!! ARGHH!!!

Another thing to note is that my HDD LED light always stays on now, it used to flicker and go off, now it's on all the time, but the drive isn't making any kind of noise.

I have NOD32 anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Webroot Spysweeper and they're all up to date and just ran them. I also have O&O Professional and just defragged as well.

No errors were found, yet I still get this VERY frustrating error.

I sure hope someone can help me or offer advice. Thanks in advance...

Hi everyone. I'm new here, but this forum is the place I came to help a relative fix her laptop's freezing* issues. The computer is a couple years old, and it has never worked properly. It's a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 SP1. She insists on using AOL as her browser and mail app, and I can't get her to switch to something more stable or less resource-hogging. The computer freezes constantly, but naturally I suspect there's a deeper problem than just her use of AOL. I think it might be a registry issue, but I don't have enough knowledge of computer registries to fix it. That's just my hunch, though. I have run anti-virus and anti-malware programs (Avast and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware) on it for the past year at least, and she has been virus and malware free for some time.

Recently, she received an error message from Windows Explorer. I can't tell you exactly what it said b/c she didn't write it down, but the short story is I ran the system file checker via the command prompt (sfc /scannow) and received a message saying that the Windows Resource Manager found corrupt files but was unable to fix them. I ran this in safe mode and after a normal boot-up. So here are my questions:

1) if I were to post a CBS log file from her system file checker on bleepingcomputer.com, is there someone who could help me interpret it?
2) should I post the CBS log file that I obtained from running Windows 7 in safe mode or under normal conditions... Read more

It has been pretty sudden, my laptop the past 2-3 days now has been freezing suddenly after about 1-2 hours after start up. On one occasion it was still at the login screen and it was frozen. Mostly it has occurred when I was just simply on Facebook, checking email, and doing smaller tasks that I have had no issue with just last week. Once frozen, it does not respond to Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Alt+F4, only a hard restart seems to make it work again.

I ran Malwarebyte, Viper Antivirus in Safe mode, nothing was found. I also ran CC registry cleaner and it found some issues with the Window System-32 files. It was de-fragmented about 6 days ago. The laptop itself is Toshiba Satellite and is about 3 years old, running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. I'm not sure if it could be a hard drive starting to go out or something else, it just seems the issue has occurred rather suddenly which seems to make me think that something was downloaded/occurred very recently.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I recently moved to a new location and set up my computer.

Somewhere between BOOT and Windows XP starting up, my computer suddenly freezes. Sometimes it's delayed long enough for me to log into XP, only to crash a few seconds later. I assumed that maybe I attached something incorrectly, and checked the wires. They are fine.

Before my move, the computer never gave such problems. It's difficult for me to figure out exactly what to do or how to fix it when I can only use the computer properly for about a minute or so.

For a while, I tried going into Safe Mode or using a System Restore to move the computer back to a point where this issue did not occur. That worked for a time, and now it does not. The only way for me to use my computer now is to log into Safe mode with networking, and when I'm done, set the PC to stand by.

Another issue there - my computer refuses to stand by.

It would show off only to start right back up again on its own, and once the Welcome screen is displayed, either I can't type anything or the computer freezes.

I'm not sure why this is happening. Is there any solution to this?

Hello all,

This is my last resort to figure out why Bert (my computer) is dieing on me.

He is a 1 year old computer with Windows Vista 64 bit (Instal, not upgrade) Service pack 1, with 4 gb of Ram, a 500gb hard drive, and a 3.0GHz quad-core processor.

Lately, ive had troubles with him though,

It doesn't always start up correctly, and freezes on the Microsoft loading page, with the green loading bar.

When i try to start it in safe mode.. you'll all reconize this next part: It gets stuck on Crcdisk.sys (Yes, that infamous problem)

Ive googled the subject till i was blue in the face, and ive managed to get it to start up again (only 50% of the time) by doing the following:

I try to start up the computer, it freezes on the loading page
I hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off
Turn off the power bar
Press Bert's power button to drain any residual power
Turn on the power bar
Turn on Bert, and it starts properly.

So problem 1 is, id like to figure out how to fix the crcdisk.sys problem permanently, and the second problem is arguably worse:

When i do manage to turn it on, the computer is extremely unresponsive. It will freeze doing ANYTHING (Opening folders/files, Opening/closing windows, Opening/closing Firefox, or Internet Explorer, Loading anything in firefox or internet explorer... Basically anything that a computer can do, will freeze it.)

It will freeze, and the window will "Not responding", and sometimes if i wait a good 30 seconds -... Read more

I have been warned by my internet service that my PC has a malware called "Trojan: Mebroot" and my internet will later be suspended if I do not fix it.

If my computer is started normally, after a period of time it tends to freeze/crash and sometimes even display a bluescreen. Also, if i press ctrl+printscreen+c it will also freeze my computer.

At the moment, I am still using this computer but started on "Debugging Mode" and my computer doesn't freeze (unless I try to do a screenshot). My internet supplier (OPTUS) still warns me to remove the virus otherwise they will suspend my internet.

Hello,

I have been having trouble for a couple weeks with Firefox. Every so often Firefox will hang, and cause a total system freeze for a short period of time. Sometimes this can cause explorer to crash too, other times if for example I was watching a YouTube video or a Twitch stream, I get a message saying the shockwave plugin is not responding. This would then again cause an entire system lock up. I would then begin to attempt to open up task manager with the Ctrl+Shift+Esc combination. On my computer it would always instantaneously open up. During these experiences it does not show up at all. So I would then attempt to right click the taskbar to open Task Manager from the options there. The taskbar (as I'm assuming explorer was still hung) would not respond for a couple minutes until finally the menu pops up. I would then select Task Manager. After a short while (maybe 30 seconds) Task Manager would finally show up. It is here that I would see that there are two Task Manager processes. So I would attempt to kill one. I would select the one that was ~100 kb (which I'm assuming is the one that hasn't shown up yet as the other one had ~4000kb). This would be in vain as attempting to kill most processes was also in vain. So I started a round of anti virus and malware checks. I originally started with an Avast! boot time scan. I received an error of 42111. I looked into this and it seems as though Avast! was failing to scan an archived file. After this comp... Read more

Hello,

I have been having some issues for the last couple of days with my computer.  I first experienced trouble with Firefox while watch a simple Twitch Stream.  For no reason (as the computer was completely idle save the stream) I received a message saying Shockwave Player (or some script on the page) stopped responding.  The popup gave me the option to wait for the script to respond, or to kill it.  I attempted to kill it, by opening up Task Manager.  This took maybe 3 minutes to open up, while in the process hung my entire system the whole time, and then led to Firefox itself to completely lock up.  As well, when attempting to open up Task Manager in the first place, if at first the window did not show up I would attempt to open it again.  The first time by using the Ctrl, Shift, Escape combination, and when that was unsuccessful (as it normally pops up instantly), I would thusly right click the taskbar to open it that way.  By doing this method it would take minutes for the popup from the taskbar itself to showup.  After finally getting Task Manager open, I would see two different Task Manager processes.  One at roughly 4k kilobytes of memory, while the other ~100.  As someone with a tiny bit of OCD I would close the smaller kilobyte one by right clicking it to kill the process from the popup menu.  Right clicking the process would give me no window, nor would hitting kill process from the tab on the Task... Greetings to everyone,My computer freezes in Normal and Safe Mode, when I can get into Safe Mode, constantly. I've run Malware for the entire system and found no problems. I've cleaned the registry, run CCleaner regularly and use Shadow Defender when online. I've also used Eset to clean up the system successfully. When trying to run SUPERAntiSpyware however, it always freezes after about 8-10 minutes. I can't figure it out. I have a new Seagate 2T Green Hard Drive, 2Gig of new Kingston DDR SDRAM, A new NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card and 2 new Lite On DVDR/CDR units. I also have 2 Seagate FreeAgent external USB drives but both are disabled. ASUS has assured me the board can handle up to 8 USB devices although I only have 6. I'm using XP Pro SP3 with ALL the updates. It's been to the shop 4 times. The last time it ran fine for two days with virtually identical hardware connected before being returned. It froze within 10 minutes after return. It will run for an hour or two occasionally but when I go online it will usually freeze up within 10-15 minutes. I've even switched from Firefox 3.6.6 to 3.5.16 because of other reports of problems with 3.6.6. It also freezes using IE 8 as well. It is also very stubborn about going into Safe Mode. Assistance needed badly,
My computer is freezing constantly in both normal and safe mode. It usually freezes when online, but not all the time. It will freeze off line in both modes. Unfortunately, I never get any error messages and my Event Viewer only reads Event ID 51, Disk, (error detected on hard disk) or Event ID 7026, Service Control Manager, (system start drivers failed to load). I've run Malwarebytes with no results. I also run CCleaner regularly, Wise Registry Cleaner, Eset, Spybot S&D, Avast and several others. When I try to run SuperAntiSpyyware it freezes after 6-9 minutes every time. It freezes at unpredictable times in almost all other cases. Typically it will freeze between 15 to 20 times per day, especially when I'm online. It has been in for service to a very reputable repair facility four times. After initially replacing my video card it runs fine in the shop, sometimes for up to two days or more. Upon returning to my residence it usually freezes in less than one hour, sometimes 20 minutes or less. I'm running XP Pro SP3 with the following hardware: ASUS A8V-VM SE Motherboard, 2Gig New Kingston DDR 400 SDRAM, New Seagate 2Terabyte Green HD, New Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS 512mb Video Card, New 2 Lite On DVDR/CDR Drives, 1 Lite On CDR Drive, New Ralink RT73 USB WiFi Adapter, Behringer UCA 202 USB Audio Adapter, New 2 Seagate FreeAgent USB HD's, New Logitech K350 USB Keyboard, Kensington USB Expert Mouse Pro Trackball, New LGR 510 Purple Oc... Here are my gmer and dds logs. Before you read the logs, here are a few details you might find helpful.

1) 3 days ago the computer began to run as slow as molasses and would freeze up a lot, forcing me to constantly restart.

2)Whenever I restarted, checkdisk would run, saying my disc weren't "consistent".

3)Yesterday the computer became almost unusable. I figured I had nothing to lose,to I decided to reinstall my OS. The computer wouldn't allow a repair install, so I did a full install instead. That's why you see so many programs added and deleted from computer today (4/30).Reinstalling the OS has made no difference.

4) I cannot run the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. When I try to do this, I see a page of System32Drivers.

5) When I check BIOS, it said SMART status is ok, when both BIOS tests failed.

6) Malwarebytes found nothing. AVG found one virus.

7) When I tried fixmbr, it said "The old master boot record cannot be read".

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
Motherboard: Biostar TA790GX A3+
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4770
RAM: 4gb Corseir

Windows is constantly freezing up, seemingly at random. Sometimes 5 mins after boot. Sometimes an hour. The mouse pointer stops responding and task manger won't open.

I've installed all the updates from Microsoft and also Biostar, ATI etc. But it has made no difference.

I've also tried a clean install of Windows on a formatted hdd. Same problem.

Eventviewer shows the following from about half an hour (I think) before the last crash:

"The ATICDSDr service failed to start due to the following error:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source."

This error appears 20 times in the space of 1 minute. Any relevance?

Also, this might be completly unrelated but I have 2 updates that refuse to install.
1. HID Non-User Input Data Filter
2. Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Filter

I am finding this very frustrating as I can't get any thing done on my machine. And I really don't want to have to revert back to Vista!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Win 7 freezes constantly

Try installing the latest 32/64 bit ATi drivers from the official site.

Also remove the old drivers, sometimes installs don't always work and a simple reinstall may work

I've run scandisk, its only been here for about 3 months so its not ready to defrag. I've done anti-virus/spyware searches. I have no idea why this PC keeps freezing, it doesn't even happen when someone has 100 programs open either, it will just lock up without warning.

Could this be a problem, I'm looking at System Information and I see:

Total Physical Memory 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 675.33 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
Page File Space 2.40 GB
Page File C:\pagefile.sys

I thought maybe it was a pagefile problem....Virtual memory is set at 1536 -3072 MB. Any ideas, maybe something I havent checked?

Hi! I am new to this forum, however am not new to computers and I know my way around them more than the average person. This time though, I am completely stumped.

I've had this computer for over a year now and have been steadily playing video games on it. This all started last Thursday, at around 9pm. I was playing TF2 with some buddies and it just suddenly froze. I thought nothing of it since it IS a laptop and I am running a game on it, so it's probably bound to happen sometime. But upon rebooting, it froze when I opened Ventrilo. And then one more time on the login screen of Windows. I left it and went to bed.

It continued more on Friday, but then I booted in Safe Mode and system restored onto a save that was 5 days earlier. It still froze.

Earlier today, Saturday, I didn't pay attention to the boot screen but it took me to a debug menu I'm guessing. It scanned my files and everything was fine. It actually didn't freeze until an hour later.

And now I'm on Safe Mode with Networking on, typing this because I have no idea what to do anymore.

I've heard that my hard-drive might be dying, my Windows files are corrupt, over-heating (Although I don't believe it's overheating since it freezes when it's not running games too) and that my laptop parts are dying down.

I am on an Alienware M11x with Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium (No disc drive, so I don't believe I can reformat, unless there's another way).

Hi, I've been having a problem with Firefox for several days now. It freezes up all the time. I downloaded waterfox and that does the same. Do I need to update something? I also use Opera (no problems with that) but Firefox has all my links and I don't know how to get them to use in another browser.

Thank you

A:Firefox constantly freezes

To use your links in another browser, you need to save the links on your computer ,first.
This is how you do that : Open Mozila Firefoxand use this combination ctrl+shift+B to open your bookmarks.
Then click Import and Backup>Export bookmarks to HTML - this will let you save your bookmarks in HTML format.
Save the file on your desktop to find it easily.

Then open the browser ,that you want to use those links in, for example -Internet explorer.
Click File>import and export>import from a file>tick "favorites"... Then select the file that you have saved on the desktop and click- OK. The bookmarks will be added to Internet explorer and you'll be able to use them without even restarting the browser.
Good luck

I've attached a zip file with 4 fairly close BSODs. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue or a memory issue. I've noticed my system is more stable with only the one 2GB memory chip in it, when I have 4 or 5 gigs, it became more unstable. Pretty sure my other 2 chips burnt out or became corrupted. My system used to have Windows Vista 32bit, and I reformatted and installed Win 7 Ultimate 32bit. It gave me issues of restarting before the switch, and it's giving me issues still.

Just tired of it, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the BSODs or freezes. I could be watching a movie, and it'll be fine and then BSOD in the middle of the movie. Other times it'll freeze before the movie starts. Or I can click on the start bar, but as soon as I move the mouse pointer over a file with a list, it'll freeze or BS.

Surprisingly, it actually ran perfect for about a 3 week period. I was cautiously pleased, and then it reverted back to it's prior unstable self. Any assistance or insight would be appreciated.

I've noticed that at random times my PC freezes and becomes unresponsive (the mouse moves though). The HDD light stays on and this all lasts for around 20 seconds sometimes longer.

I have Win7 Pro and disabled indexing and superfetch. I opened system monitor and when the freezing happens I dont see any changes in there. The hard drive is about 3 years old, could it be dying? My hard drive has only got 8MB cache could that be the culprit?

Probably not the HD but a check disk would tell you. I suspect it is just writing to disk. I am unsure as to what apps you have installed or how you use them but 4 gigs of ram on win 7 64 bit isnt a ton and if you have HD apps like photoshop, or video editing apps writing may be it.

So I'm having trouble with my PC, it constantly freezes. So far it mostly happens whenever I play a game involving steam - the two games that have frozen on me are counterstrike 1.6, and a game from steam called peggle. More recently the PC froze on me while I was online with just the Internet Explorer open. Steam was running in the backround though.. I'm not sure if Steam is the issue here or if I have something wrong with my PC. I have genuine Windows Ultimate.

Here is my Deckard Scan, I was unable to run the Panda Virus Scan because it is not supported in Vista. I am however currently running Nod32 with signitures (2821 20080124). Please look at my log, I am attaching Extra.txt. Thank you everyone who responds to this.

Hello,

I'm recently experiencing constant freezes, almost like every 10 minutes.
I've tried setting to Disabled/off the power options with High performance profile to no avail, also read somewhere that Deamon Tools could cause this so I unninstalled it and deleted the sptd.sys file with the DuplexSecure tool, still the freezes appear randomly.

I also disabled my A: device (usb, SD/MMC, MS/Pro/Duo, CF/Microdrive).
Unpluged the DVD/CD unit.
Disabled AMD HighDefinition Device, read in the AMD forums that causes overloading when you already have another Audio device running.
Unninstalled Gamebooster.
Reinstalled ATI graphics driver, had 11.6, currently using 11.5 with no success.
Ran a MalwareBytes scan with no errors/infections whatsoever.
Tried system restore point couple times but the freezes show up eventually.
Ran Registry Cleaners with CCleaner and COMODO

So I'm here scratching my head thinking about more things I could do to prevent this but I've got anything else, so please help me out with this

Hi,
I'm using an NEC Versa S900 with Windows XP Professional Edition. I purchased this laptop about a year ago. No matter what I'm doing, or not doing, the bloody thing will sooner or later lock up completely for no apparent reason and then I'd have to turn off and turn back on the laptop and pray that it wouldn't happen again.

The wierd thing is that this only happens if i use the touchpad on the laptop. If i connect a mouse and use that, then everything will work all fine and dandy. But right now, i don't have a mouse available, so i find myself rebooting every few minutes. In fact, i'm just praying it will let me finish this post.

I am obviously real dumb with computers so I don't know any other necessary details so just tell me what to say.

If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated. This thing is driving me nuts...

Thanks in adavnce

I can not run vista repair because my vista disc does not have the sp2 installed.

I'm unsure what the issue is, I've done everything I can think of with dealing with this. I'm running vista off of my Dell Inspiron 5315, and every so often, at least once an hour it freezes for 30 seconds to a minute, sometimes 2-3 minutes and then goes back to normal. I'll have the task manager open and the cpu usage usually doesnt go past 5-10%. nothing has been replaced, no new drivers, no new burner, nothing. I've tried to run it at a lower resolution, does the same thing, i've ran numerous spyware/adware/malware programs, and nothing comes up. I've even wiped my harddrive and reinstalled vista, same problem. It's been doing this since I originally got my computer about a year ago. If anyone could help me out that would be great, it's highly irritating and its a pain with my business.

This problem has been bugging me for quite some time and I'm really desperate to fix this. Previously, my firefox version was 33.0 and I've started to get some hanging and unresponsive script when I'm playing facebook games. Hence, I've updated my firefox to the latest one which is version 34.0.5 thinking it would solve my problem, but it is very much worse now.

It freezes at very random moments that I couldn't track what problem is it. I've resetted firefox, uninstalled and reinstalled back, start in safe mode, disabling each extension to see what causes the problem but to no avail. It even freezes when I'm ONLY loading a few (less than 5) tabs.

I have also did the following methods but nothing helps as well :
1. Updating Adobe and Shockwave Flash to the latest version
2. Option > General > unchecked the hardware acceleration
3. Disabling Protected Mode in Flash by adding 'ProtectedMode=0' to the "mms.cfg" file. (This solved the unresponsive shockwave script)

Please help me as I'm really desperate to solve this. Thank you

As you did not mention Hardware Acceleration, try turning it off, as that often solves odd problems:
It is found in the Fx Options/Advanced/General menu.

If that does not help, it is time to try a new profile. The best instructions are found at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a...ile_on_Windows . The site is being cantankerous as of this writing, so you might encounter difficulty in accessing the file.

Ok so i appreciate any help given in advance and i will try to be as thorough as i can

I left my pc on for about 24 hours and then began to us it again. I noticed that it was running incredibly slowly, and would not let me open more than 1 folder for instance. Also when i oppened a folder occasionally it would not load the contents but display a windows logo at the top of the folder. I thought it a bit weird and thought it was probably a memory problem. I rebooted and after about 1 minute it totaly froze. Mouse pointer, keyboard all froze. I wasnt sure about the rest of the computer. But for the first minute after the desktop was displayed i could do what i wanted, if i was quick eneugh. I force turned it off and booted it up again. It still froze after 1 minute and i booted it up again. This time i hit control alt delete and watched the memory and proccessor. Both looked normal and then my pc froze and the results of the proccessor and memory continued to be displayed for about 10 seconds. This confirms that the pc was indeed freezing to. As soon as my pc froze the proccessor clocked up to 100% but memory didnt alter. Then the readings stoped 10 seconds after my pc froze. I was a bit stumped.

I booted into bios and dissabled the boot windows quickly option and tried again. No change and so i downloaded the microsoft memory test thing and put it on a bootable floppy, still convinced it was memory relate. However the diagnosis reports no errors. Again I was stumped.

My new Toshiba Tecra Z50-A-17t constantly hangs on shutdown.

At first I thought it might connect to the Cisco any lie, since this appeared in the Event Viewer several times.
After I deleted it went well for a short time, but now the problem occurred again, only this time there is nothing to see in the event viewer.

Can someone help me what's wrong and how I can fix the problem myself?

Friendly greeting smirou

A:Tecra Z50-A-17t constantly freezes on shutdown

The notebook was preinstalled with Win 7 64bit system.
I assume you are still using this system, I would recommend you to repair the system using the windows own automatic repair function.

Boot the notebook and press F8.
Now you should be able to access the Advanced menu.
Here you can choose between different options.

You can choose the ?Last known good configuration? option.
You can also choose the first option ?Repair your computer? which will open the next window where you could access to the Startup Repair feature.
There you could choose option ?Startup Repair?

Otherwise it would be advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if its an simple system problem or maybe hardware related issue

Hi,

I'm posting from a mobile phone so forgive me if the grammar is weird.

I have a computer where windows 7 freezes constantly. It can happen during boot up, with in five second.F's of starti&ng up windows it five minutes.

I have tested EVERYTHING I can think of. I have replaced the psu, tested the ram with memtest, replaced the HD, replaced the hard drive, updated the BIOS, reformatted and did a fresh install. It is still crashing. I also cleaned it from top to bottom.

I thought maybe there was an update to address my issue even get thru updating before it crashes.

My system specs are as follows:

Athlon Phenom x4 3.2 ghz processor
Asus formula III Gamers republic mother board
6 gigs of mushkin ram
1 TB western digital caviar black 7200 rpm HD
2 500 gig western digital caviar green hard drives
creative soundblasted x-fi fatality soundcard
Asus ENGTX 480 w/1.5 gigs of ram on board
Corsair ax850 modular power supply
Antec 1200 case

What else can I provide for help? Again, since I'm on my phone its really hard to navigate but ill do my best to provide it. I've about given up.

Thank you so much for any help you guys can provide.

A:windows 7 ultimate 64 bit freezes constantly

Here are some things to try.

Have you checked the temperature on your processor? It could be heat related if the fan is not installed properly or working properly.

Try removing one memory stick at a time and see what happens.

What is the exact make of your memory? Do you know it is compatible with your board? What speed are you running the memory at?

Are you overclocking? If so, go back to normal settings.

I built this system about 3 yrs ago and have kept having problems. I have had to re-install windows several times. It just suddenly and for no apparent reason won't boot up and the windows repair tool won't fix it. I have changed the hard drive, power supply and memory already over a period of time. I'm beginning to think it is my motherboard. The specs for my build are as follows: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-USB 3. AMD Phenom 11 X 4 965, Seagate 1 TB Sata HD, Asus Sata DVD burner and 4 GB Crucial RAM.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I think I'm ready to change boards though. What would be a good one to buy that is compatible with my processor?

hi!

recently i've been having some problems, and i think it's my video card.
sometimes when i play different games or watch videos on my computer, the whole system freezes up for a second or few, and then comes back up. the sound also gets distorted, as if the whole system is crashing. most of the times everything comes back after a few seconds, but sometimes it crashes and i have to reboot. the whole system is new, and i didn't have this problem before.

my specs:

AMD phenom IIx4 920 2.8Ghz
Asus m4a78-e motherboard
4GB ram
Sapphire 4870HD 1GB Vapor-x (video card)
windows vista home premium 64bit

A:Help! my video card constantly freezes up

OK, some more info is needed. Post the brand and wattage of your pw supply. Next post your system temps and voltages. Since this is an asus board, you can use asus probe or check your temps/voltages in the bios.

In addition to the above, download and run the hard disk maker's utility for checking the hd.

Hi all, I'm new to these forums and hoping someone can help me out.
let me start out with the pc I built

core 2 duo 6700 w/ coolmaster fan (it stays cool)
ECS Nf650islit-A motherboard
Western digital 200g hard drive (did a full diagnostic on this it passed)
4 gig of gskill ddr2 800 ram (did full memtest on these they passed)
600w power supply
dual 7600gs nvidia cards in sli
benq dvd rw cd rw drive
Windows xp service pack 2 fully updated (I legally own this so its not an illegal copy of windows

Things i have done so far:
I swapped memory sticks to see if one was bad, ran memtest everything passed
did diagnostic on the hard drive it passed. I recently updated all drivers for everything on the pc (except my benQ dvd cd drive, these i cannot find)
i also downloaded and reflashed new bios for mobo.
Re formated HD and did completly fresh install

The problem is when i try and install new things, (granted I Installed windows without a problem) it always freezes then eventualy reboots. more specificly I installed Battlefield 2 sucsessfully with the cd's but when i try and run the patch to update the game it freezes and reboots every single time, I thought it may just be the patch but it also freezes and reboots when i was trying to install Microsoft frame work 1.1 downloads as well with direct x 9c. what really drives me nuts is it worked fine for a while before windows fully updated, then it started messing up and freezing again recently.

is this a common problem? im n... Read more

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop and constantly am running into the issue with iTunes always freezing up either when I open the program or while it's minimized, scrolling through my library, or in the iTunes Store. I have uninstalled it and all of its components one by one, re-installed and it will only work for so long before it acts up again. VERY FRUSTRATING!
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

A:iTunes on Windows constantly freezes

Are you sure it's iTunes causing the problem, not hardware limitations? What laptop is it? Specifications would help rule that out.

I dont know why only ebay as Internet Explorer is working OK with all other websites but it freezes 9 times out of 10. As I use Ebay to sell for my business this is causing me some trouble. This happened a few months ago and so I used Firefox for a while and after a few weeks IE started working again. I am not aware of installing anything that should have caused this. In addition my PC is crawling along quite slowly.
I have attached a copy of my HighJackThis log and would really value some help.

Many thanks

I was using the Beta since Feb. with no problems whatsoever. When the time limit was up I installed the RC1. I did a freesh install, not an upgrade. Ever since the install, my display will freeze at random and the pc requires a hard reboot. I initially assumed it was a video driver issue. First, I updated all my drivers to the latest, but it kept happening. So I tried the driver for Vista, but it kept happening. Well, gaming and watching video is the main thing I do with my pc, so as is it is useless. I disabled the video driver so I could download another OS but it still freezes, even with no video driver.
I can't stay unfrozen long enough now to download a linux distro, and my XP is no good becasue it doesn't come with the drivers I need to get online, so I can't install it and update the drivers, so basically I'm screwed.
I have searched online for hours, but no real answers. Its frustrating as hell that the beta was working flawlessly, then they made me ugrade, now its broken.

Hello Nitesmoke, welcome to the forums.

You might try one of the newer builds, such as 7264. If you want a link, PM me.
