If your problem is that Adobe Reader is unable to print, but other applications can print, I suggest that you uninstall Adobe Reader and then download and install it again.

I view an e-book in adobe reader, it has 456 pages in it and lots of images and graphics.
When I scroll, resize the adobe reader window it "lags" and becomes slow.
Also when I scroll, there is some noise coming out of my laptop and when I stop scrolling it stops too.

what could be the problem?

A:Viewing .pdf files in adobe reader

The "problem" is Adobe Reader !

Try this,

Tracker Software Products :: PDF-XChange Viewer, Free PDF Reader

When installing it, if you check the "extensions" box then a preview handler will be installed for PDF files so that you can also preview them in the Windows Explorer preview pane;

Hi I keep on getting very large Gannt Chart PDF files and I am attempting to print them out on my A2 printer Epson 1520 but even on a full A2 sheet the text is still a little smal for my boss to read as he is getting on in years.
Is there a way to print a large PDF like this over two pages instead of just one.

I updated to Adobe Reader 9.2 from Adobe's website this morning and when I got home, it said Adobe updater needs attention. It was offering to install 8.1.4. Maybe because I haven't restarted yet. I thought that was weird. Several problems trying to open a pdf file after updating. Said tab has been restored and kicked me out of reader a few times. Finally it let me into the PDF and said it was parsing the data or configuring the file for reading or somesuch. I hope it stops behaving badly after a restart. paj692

A:Solved: I'm using Adobe Reader 9.2 why is the updater offering Adobe Reader 8.1.4

Adobe has released some information about some big security holes in Adobe software: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/

You can turn off the updater as follows:
1. Load ADobe Reader
2. Go to Edit, Preferences
3. Select Updater at the bottom
4. Select 'Do not down or install updates automatically'
5. Click OK

Hi,

Everytime I try to open a .pdf file that is emailed to me it keeps trying to open in Word. How do I make Adobe my default program for reading any .pdf files? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe on my computer to no avail. Even when I look at other pdf files I have saved in my computer, they all have the little Word document icon. Not sure why, have never experienced this in previous versions of Windows,
but I can't seem to get pdf files to open in Firefox.

Using the latest version of firefox, video drivers, and adobe reader.
Got adobe reader installed fine, and adobe flash player installed fine,
but still pdf files won't open in firefox.

when I click on a pdf file to open it in the browser, it doesn't do anything,
its like the link to the pdf won't open at all. Happens every time.

Only way I can open pdf's on the web is to right click on the pdf link,
click on 'save link as' download it to the computer, and open it in adobe reader.

I can do that, problem is this is my wifes computer, and she's not as computer
literate as I am, so she has to ask ME to do all that for her whenever she comes
across a PDF document on the web, which happens alot with her taking online classes
right now. don't want her to have to call me every time she needs to open a pdf document
ya know? especially when its something small like a groupon or something she only needs
to view once to print the thing... so it would really be nice if she could bring up pdf's in firefox
so its not so much work on me

thanks

I'm not always home when she has these issues, sometimes I'm at work and don't have time to

The newest version of Adobe reader will not give me access to my pdf files in my document folder. I get an error message that says access denied. I have done nothing that would have changed any settings. I have change the protected mode settings in preferences, that was the only info/help I saw elsewhere online. That did not work. I did install on older 9.5 version and that works fine. Is there something else I can try, I would prefer to have the newer version.

I have Adobe Reader 7.0 installed on an XP SP2 system. For some reason, the program must have a/some corrupted files. I tried to uninstall it, but with no success. I went to the help file to try to get an update, or reinstall it, with no success. When I try to go to Adobe's web site, my IE 6.0 browser locks up. While trying to reinstall, I got this message re: a missing file:

Program Files\Adobe|Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files\RdrBig\ENU\Data1.cab

I'm also getting a 1316.A error message.

Can anyone suggest a solution for me?

Would appreciate your help.

How come I can open some pdf files with Acrobat Reader and search for words, or select words or sentences but other files do not allow this? In the former case, when I pass the cursor over the text I get the typical cursor sign that you see when select a text (a small verticle line with a cross line top and bottom), in the latter case a + sign. I checked in the security settings for the file and in both cases there is no restriction for searching or copying.

A:problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader and pdf files

Hi witherm , and welcome to TSG.

It is possible that in the first case, the actual text information is encoded into the PDF file. This this type of PDF file might be created if someone took an MS-Word document file and converted it directly to a PDF file.

In the second case, your PDF file may just be a picture of page of text or it may be made up of many short straight and curved lines that look like text to the human eye. In either type, there is no actual text data to select or copy.

Just joined so I hope this hasn't been answered elsewhere.
I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit and loaded Adobe reader 9.0. It installs Ok and I can open reader and then open a pdf file no problem. The difficulty is the pdf file has lost its association with reader. I've tried the "open with" tack and also looking at default programs in control panel. In both places reader is not offered as an option. If I browse to find a file it defaults to program files but I have to navigate to
program files (x86)/adobe/reader 9.0/reader/AcroRd32.exe
If I select this it just defaults back to the pen with screen with nothing changed.
I tried reinstalling adobe reader but not better.
I would be grateful for any help.

I had Adobe Reader version 9.1 (Dutch) running on my brandnew Acer Netbook Aspire 1410 with Windows 7 Home [64 bits]. Worked well for a while. At a certain moment (cause unknown) ALL my program files (*.exe) were given the Adobe icon and starting them starts up Adobe Reader, with the error message 'This file doesnt have a program associated wiuth it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is alreadyt installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel'.
My only option was to uninstall Adobe Reader through the Control Panel. Then the *.exe files worked properly again.
I searched for a specific [64 bits] version of Adobe Reader, couldnt find it, found some messages saying the usual version works for 64 bits too, downloaded the newest version 9.3.1 [English] - but: same result, same problem.
Questions:
- any idea what could have triggered this very strange problem?
- why wasnt the problem there right from the beginning?
- does it have to do with my 64 bits version?
- as long as I have to keep Adobe Reader uninstalled, is there any (free) alternative to recommend, so that i can continue reading *.pdf's?

I thought I'd post this as an issue I came across today.

I noticed that the contents of PDF files were not showing up in Searches from File Explorer (and I guess Cortana).

I should be able to type in a word from a PDF file and, as long as the PDF file is in an indexed location, this should appear in search results.

It turns out that this is a problem which occurs when Adobe Reader is installed, apparently affecting x64 versions of Windows.

The search "iFilter" for PDFs gets broken, so the search doesn't index them. When looking in Indexing Options | Advanced | File Types, the entry for .pdf says "Registered iFilter is not found".

This seems to be the relevant page on Adobe's Knowledge base:
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/p...0-install.html

Note that it says it's fixed in Adobe Reader 11.04, but I'm using a later version of Adobe Reader and still had the problem in Windows 10 x64.

iFilter PDF search doesn't work on Windows 8 x64

Windows 8 64 bit provides native support for the PDF iFilter, which enables indexing PDFs so you can search for specific text. Installing Acrobat or Reader 11.0 breaks this feature. It overwrites the Windows 8 native iFilter registry entry with the product registry entry.

Solution

Do one of the following:

Update to Acrobat/Reader 11.0.4 or higher. The issue is fixed in version 11.0.4. [DavidY:But it wasn't for me]PDF iFilter 9 is not supported on Windows 8, update to ... Read more

I was working on my files when suddenly all icons turned into Adobe Reader icons. The suggestion was to uninstall Adobe Reader (I did), save Windows 7, then fix the registry, etc. or try to reinstall Adobe Reader. After three tries using a different browser and the icons reappearing all over the desktop, blocking all other items, I decided to follow Cnet suggestion to install FOXIT 5.0 Reader. I did and I can read all my files perfectly.
Although computer geeks would have known how to fix the problem, I was afraid to mess up Windows 7, the Registry and who knows what else. I hope that the alternative will be a permanent fix. Any other simple suggestions will be appreciated.

A:Solving Adobe Reader icon problems, no need to back up files...

Hello writingkitty, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If these were all shortcuts that the icons changed for, then downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below would most likely fix that for you. It restores the default associations for shortcuts.

A:Foxit Reader works fine -- uninstalling Adobe pdf reader

I've used Foxit reader, but it wasn't totally compatible with Adobe Acrobat created PDF files, but in most cases it sufficed quite well. As for Photoshop replacements, there are a few others available and PaintShop Pro is not a bad alternative, though when Corel bought it out initially, it completely stuffed things up. I understand that it's fixed a lot of update issues etc in that time and it's leagues cheaper than Photoshop.

Do you guys remember when Adobe Reader was just this nice simple little PDF file reader. I had such a problem with Adobe Reader 9 and the site that I manage with all of Adobe Reader 9's add-on crap, that my once fine Adobe Reader 8 that came in at 60 MB's, with version 9 came in at over 200! I kid you not!

I'm sick of software companies piling on all this extra crap that has nothing to do with the performance or enhancement of the product. A PDF reader should be to read files....That's it. I don't need some graphic enhancing garbage, window washing, calender, singing man, Find Blimpy The Clown game, install the optional toolbar crap.

Luckily I was able to uninstall version 9 and go back to version 8 with the 8.1.3 within the program. Than I read at Adobe's site that there were some critical security patches for Reader 9. Well Adobe, if you would focus on the product necessities rather than the unrelated garbage, performance might be enhanced instead of hindered.

I can't wait to see what Blimpy The Clown does in Version 10! UGGHHH!

Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, “The record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?”

SITUATION
I created a pdf. file from a document that had 'fill-in forms'. I used Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. to create the PDF file.

I then I burned the pdf. file on to a CD.

When I used my Adobe Reader 9.0 to open the PDF file, I could fill-in the forms, but not save them. I received a message that said I could not save the information, only print it unless I enabled the ‘local save capability’ in the original pdf. file.

I will be selling the CDs and need the buyer to be able to fill-in the forms, and then save the document on the CD or the buyer’s computer.

QUESTIONS
1. How do I enable the ‘local save capability’ on Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0, saving the document with the information typed into the fill-in forms?

2. How can I write protect the pdf. file so no one can edit it (except for the fill-in fields) nor duplicate the disk?

3. Has anyone bought a software product from www.SoftCaptain.com and if yes, what was your experience with the software product company?

A:Adobe Acrobat Professional & Adobe Reader

I can't answer all of your questions, but data on a CD is read only, you won't be able to save the edited file on that CD.
It can only be saved on the hard drive & then burned to CD again, if necessary.

Win 7 Professional x64
EMET 5.2 & Adobe Acrobat Reader 11 were working together. Not sure what my EMET 5.2 mitigation settings were for Reader.
Upgraded to EMET 5.5 and now I get a message when launching Adobe Reader saying:
"Adobe Acrobat Reader DC cannot be opened in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC with Protected Mode disabled?"
If I select open with Protected Mode disabled, Adobe still crashes for certain operations. My default EMET settings for AcroRd32.exe are everything checked except ASR.
If I disable all mitigations in EMET 5.5, Adobe Reader works normally.
If I return mitigations to default and then additionally disable EAF+, the problem persists, although I found a post saying that fixed the issue in earlier versions of EMET.
Question: Is there a custom set of mitigations that enable Reader to work, or should I disable Reader mitigations in EMET, or should I disable Protected Mode in Reader, or should I use a different PDF viewer like SumatraPDF?
Thanks

Hi Guys,
I was thinking if anyone can help me with this.
I would like to know if there is any setting under Group Policy preferences to set Adobe reader as the default pdf reader.
Server :  Windows server 2012 Standard
Client : Windows 8
Windows 8 comes with a WIndows PDF reader and we do not want this to be the default program.
Any suggestions to set Adobe reader to default ? or either disabling windows reader ? Many Thanks !!

I was working on my home computer yesterday and got a notice saying that Adobe Reader wanted to update. I allowed it to update and for the first time I realized that I have PDF Reader on my computer as well. Can someone tell me if there is any difference between the two? Should I go ahead and uninstall one of them? Both are the free version but they do take up space. Thanks.

A:What's the difference between PDF Reader and Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader (current version is 11.0.13) is the most popular and most used PDF reader out there, but there are several others.
It's one of the "must have" programs that I install in every computer that I own or service.
Most of the on-line guides, manuals, etc. are in PDF format, so you need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader to be able to open and view them.

Hi all, I need help. Strange things are happening. My computer freezes when I open a web page and click on a link. Sometimes the link will partially load, sometimes not, but if it freezes, I cannot X out of the whole thing. I have to use Control/Alt/Delete. Also, Adobe Acrobat has disappeared. It shows in the Add/Delete programs in the Control panel(Adobe Acrobat 5.0) but on the list of programs shown is I put the cursor at Start, Adobe name is there but it is empty. I tried to update it yesterday thinking that was part of my
problem but I was told there was no program to update and I cannot find it on-line anywhere to install again.

That is the difference between Adobe Acrobat 5.0, Adobe reader 7 and Adobe Flash Player 9? I am a new user (and an old granny) and am having real problems figuring a lot of this out. I have cleaned up everything I can think of and do not know how to address this problem. Any help is appreciated.

What happens when you try to print out several pages?
I know that it's certainly possible to print properly from Reader X on Windows 7.

The first things I would check are
Have you got enough paper in the printer? (It sounds dumb, but I guarantee it gets more people than would care to admit it)
Can you print without problems with any other software such as Microsoft word?

Anyone familiar with Adobe 9.2? I recently updated from Adobe 9 to Adobe 9.2. Part of the installation included a download of Acrobat.com which allowed you to convert documents to PDF for free however, after I downloaded that part of the program it only allows you to convert 5 documents for free then you have to pay a monthly charge. There are free PDF converters on line so I uninstalled Acrobat.com. There is now another program as part of that package called Adobe Air. It doesn't show in the program files so I can't access it to see what it does but it is shown in Add/Remove programs. I don't know if it is part of Adobe Reader 9.2 or a completely separate program. so I am hesitant to remove it. Anyone have any ideas?

When I click on a .pdf file in my Email, it opens the file in (Excuse me) Metro!

Can't do anything in (excuse me) Metro, to small to read, can't print it!

Have to go back to the desktop, click on the .pdf file, open with Adobe Reader & then do what I want with it.

Am I missing something?

Tully

A:Adobe Reader

No, Tully, you're not missing anything unless we're doing something wrong. I found the "Metro" Adobe app to be crappy as well. There's no zoom in it and when one uses the monitor/screen zoom it's blurry. What's with that?!!

I've never liked Adobe and PDF from the get go. A resource hog of software. And now this "dirty word" PDF app really sucks!

I recently clicked on a hotlink in Adobe reader and a message came up that read (something like) "This program is trying to access the Internet and will you allow it to do so" (of course it didn't say that exactly). I accidently clicked on "don't allow." And worse, I had it set to remember my choice.

Now whenever I try to hyperlink from Adobe Reader it does nothing....

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit.

I checked the default programs list... nothing.
I checked the Firewall... nothing.

I checked a bunch of other places... nothing.

I may just be missing something, because I am not that tech-saavy. Please help me so that I can use links from Adobe reader.

Hi,

I just had major problems with my hard drive, had to take it in and start from scratch. I'm using Windows XP professional and now when I've installed Adobe it won't work - it instantly shuts down internet explorer.

What can I do? It's a week before finals and I'm freaking out that I can't see my assignments online!!

So far the only thing microsoft recommended was to put Adobe as an exception to the firewall, but that hasn't helped.
Can anyone help me?

Hi All
Whenever I have tried in vain at the "official" sites for weeks (Adobe Support in this case), you all have ended up solving my problem in about an hour. I will squeal like a little girl and do a one-man wave to anyone that can fix THIS one.

I keep getting the ADOBE DOWNLOAD MANAGER popup telling me that UPDATES ARE AVAILABLE. When I attempt to download them, I get the Error 1714 "The older version of Reader 7.0.9 cannot be removed" (which is strange, because I'm USING 7.0.5).

This is due to the fact that there is NO Adobe Reader 7.0.msi in the source file OR ANYWHERE ELSE on my computer. Adobe Support tells me to un-install all versions of Reader and install the update again. BUT.....I can't un-install because it tells me I need Adobe Reader 7.0.msi to get rid of the older versions. So, I can't install OR un-install anything without the stupid .msi file.

I even looked for the entry in REGEDIT that it told me to delete...and I don't have that EITHER.

Meanwhile, my version of AR 7.0.5 works just fine, but I'm sick of the ADOBE DOWNLOAD MANAGER popping up 5xday.

So, I am asking two things....where do I get Adobe Reader 7.0.msi? OR...how do I disable that @%$# DOWNLOAD MANAGER that wants to install updates?

I am using XP Home SP1 with an Intel Celeron 2.70 GHz Processor and 504MB RAM.
I use Spybot, Adaware, CC Cleaner, Window Washer...and do frequent virus checks with Norton. All show my system to be clean of bad stuff.... Read more

I have had a problem with adobe reader.. I hardly use adobe reader much but i recently tried to reinstall the new version of the reader, when i did what happened was that it asked me for a File called data1.cab and that it cant find it in C:\WINDOWS\Installer i then tried to remove the program and it asked for a Acroread.msi which i then found in one of my folders and placed in in the installer section. I tried to uninstall again and now it began asking for the same file data1.cab. i have no idea were to obtain this file but apparently without it i cant Uninstall, Reinstall, or Repair... its a very annoying issue.. sigh cause I'm stuck... and unable to do anything.

Therefore, I have not downloaded it.

Any advice about this?
Is it a serious issue?

Maybe I should put Adobe on #2?

I thought I might put the swap file and some data on #2, and

Recently I had windows software reloaded and am attempting to install some of my programs back on PC.
I installed adobe reader free, version ll.0 (121 mb) but I think maybe I installed the wrong one. When I click on desktop adobe icon, a box appears and there is mention of creating a PDF file which I thought the free one did not allow. Clicking on help/about Xl is all about copywright and a little box with 'credits' to click.

Isn't 121 mb an excessive size? Before the windows software re-install, the version I had on was 9.5.1.283 - Apr. 12/2012.
How can I cleanly & completely uninstall it? If it is the wrong version, could you please direct me to the one I should be installing?

I have a new problem opening Adobe reader 9. Used to work fine, but suddenly my pc goes into safe mode the moment I open Adobe reader, or click on a pdf file to open. What can be the cause?

A:Adobe reader

What do you mean by "safe mode?" Is your computer shutting down when you open a PDF and then booting back up in safe mode?

Is your antivirus software or firewall software giving some kind of warning?

The reason I'm asking is, there is no such thing as running a program in safe mode in Vista while maintaining a session. You'd have to restart your computer to run Vista in safe mode.

If it's some sort of dialog box informing you of something going on, and it's not the Blue Screen Of Death, can you screenshot the message for us, please?

1) First, open up MS Paint.
2) Open up Adobe or a PDF.
3) When the error message or whatever happens, happens, hit the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard.
4) Go to MS Paint.
5) Paste. <Control>+<V> or from the Edit menu, either way works. You'll see your whole desktop as an image in Paint.
6) Go to the Image menu, select "Crop," and use the cursor to box in whatever it is that's telling you about safe mode.
7) Go back to the Image menu and select Crop again to crop the image to just that dialog box or whatever it is.
8) Save it to a Photobucket account and copy the image's URL location.

Insert the image into your reply to this thread.

Version 9.1.0 is out to replace version 9.0.0.

Let's give Adobe a thumb up for not including Acrobat.com and Adobe AIR as part of the install like it did with version 9.0.0 - which most users don't need and were unaware of them being installed if they didn't look in the Add Or Remove Programs/Programs And Features list.

Hi, I'm new to this. My problem is as follows;
I have downloaded Adobe Reader 8, it appears to have loaded ok, but when I view a pdf page on the internet, I can't print it. I can print from within Adobe Reader help menu & other programs with no problems. Can you tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

How are you trying to print it? Are you using the IE print icon? If so, that probably won't work (mine doesn't either). Try looking for a print icon within the Adobe window and that should work.

I tied to open a passport application document that requires Adobe Reader 4.0, but it only opens up in Word 2003. I have Adobe Reader 6.0 and I'm using Windows XP on a Dell. Can someone help? I'd appreciate it
