Need instructions on how to copy data from CD to my new Windows 7

Q: Need instructions on how to copy data from CD to my new Windows 7

I need instructions for using Windows 7. I want to copy data files, folders, and pictures from a CD to my new computer, something that was easy to do in my old Windows XP, but I don't know the process. I could use some help. Many thanks!

A: Need instructions on how to copy data from CD to my new Windows 7

It's exactly the same - open an Explorer window to see the files, select on or multiples using Ctrl-click, Ctrl-A, Shift-click, etc., then drag-and-drop them from the CD to wherever you want them to end up.

I have one internal drive with 1 TB.
The data there is very important to me , so I bought External removable drive for backup.
Now, I want to copy the data from one drive to the second drive but I have to be sure I have a perfect copy of the data.
The data is mostly songs movies and documents.
I'm using windows 7.

My question is this:

1.If I'll transfer the data through windows 7 by copy and paste, I could be sure i have a perfect copy?
2.There are tools for comparison Between the original data to the data that was copied?
If so, what are they?

If I do not in the right place please Please pass my message to the right place.thanks.

A:transfer data through windows 7 by copy and paste perfect copy?

There is no reason why using copy and paste won't give you a perfect copy and in my view it's more reliable than using the Windows backup utility.

One program I've found invaluable is Microsoft's SyncToy, which you can download here: Download: SyncToy 2.1 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

It will sync files between folders of the same name on two separate drives or partitions ( I always use the Echo procedure).

You might also want to consider using Windows 7's Robocopy function.

I have a large Word Perfect file that I want to put on a CD. This CD will be sold to several - maybe 50 - folks. I want to prevent the CD from being copied to another media (hard drive, CD, etc) but I want it to be printable and/or even readable.

Is this possible?? Thanks, Bob

A:Copy-protect a data CD

Possible.. But not easy.. Only way I can think of doing it is useing multiple forms of copy protection. I'd use a total hash of the TOC or the CD-roms serial to act as a PGP encryption key, or maybe even a password protected zipped file based on the cd's serial.. Someone could still make a image of the CD including the TOC and serial, but it'd be a whole lot harder.. Even then, unless you wrote your own viewing app, they could still just hit file/save as/ and save it to thier hard drive..

There's a sample of useing a CD's serial as protection here:

Nero has a tool which can read the serial of blank CDR's.. Can't remember the name of it though..

It would slow down the duplication process, unless you wrote some kinda macro to automate the process..

I've also seen a few freeware protections, you might google for some to try..

A:DVD data copy on recorder

Depends on the data and manufacturer of the disk.. some companies protect their dvds from copying (usually video games). You won't damage either the original DVD or the recorder in the process of trying but you just may get a faulty disk copy that won't read.

Create the command button on the form and double-click it in design mode.
You now are the VBA mode for that button in the click event.
Simply add all the fields in this form:
Anotherform![fieldname] = Me![fieldname]

I tried but im getting the following error message:

Before I try and answer the VBA question can I ask why you want to do this?
As copying data is not supposed to happen in Relational Databases, data should be referred to.

For example I have data1.kom and data1.kom but they have different data in them. When I paste it, it gives data1.kom - Copy. How do I just get it to replace the original data1.kom?

A:How to get rid of data - Copy when pasting?

One of the basic rules of computing, and I think this applies to everything from super computers to tablets and to all operating systems, is that you cannot have two files in the same 'place' with the same name.
If you want these two files as separate files then you are going to have to rename one of them - at its simplest append the date you created it. So, 'data1', 'data1' and so on.
If you only want one of them, the one with the latest data, then use the 'Save as' command. In your case 'Save as . . . data1.kom' and this will replace the earlier file with the later one.

Hopefully someone out there can help because I am out of my depth. I'm a PC user rather than a techy (no offence to you guys who understand all of this stuff!) and my computer seems to be causing problems.

I discovered the other day that I could not burn CDs from WMP, WMP kept asking me to install a burner and restart. Problem is nothing had changed on my computer (maybe an anti-virus update but nothing more). I have tried investigating the problem on the web and tried every solution I have found - none have worked.

All my drivers are up-to-date, the CD-RW is working properly (according to the system - XP) but I cannot burn CDs from WMP or Realplayer nor copy files from my c drive. I have even replaced my CD-RW with a new one just to find the problems are still the same!

Can anyone help me?

I am very new to excel macros, though I make frequent use of excel. 10 years experience.
VBA is foreign to me. Question is: how do I make a macro to click on first case number on a web page, then bring selected data from a mozilla web display of the details about that case to a row of excel?
Also, need then to return to web page, use go back on browser to previous page which is a list of court cases, by the case no. only, and drop down to the next case, click on it, then select same data fields from the next case, and transfer it to next line in the excel sheet? Continue till run out of cases on the page listing the case numbers. The data when transferred should look like the 2nd item unde the headers. I successfully made a little macro that puts the headers on the exel sheet.

The answer may involdve something I am doing. The macro will transfer successfully when I transfer only one data item. however, when I try more, it puts the last item copoied into all the fields.
I am running on xp, windows 8, excel 2007, Mozilla, though I have IE 8 also.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I have successfully used the query in excelll, but thought this would be better.

Is there any faster way to copy 2 TB Data in Windows (with a USB 2.0 Ported Notebook) other than copy and paste?

Copy and paste would take around;

20 MB/second * 60 ≈ 1200 MB/minute ≈ 1.2 GB/minute
1.2 GB/minute * 60 ≈ 72 GB/hour
72 GB/hour * 24 ≈ 1728 GB/day ≈ 1.728 TB/day.

Is there any other faster way to do this?

I've got two hard drives, a 100gb Maxtor 7200 Rpm, and a Western Digital Raptor 74gb 10,000k Rpm. The maxtor has windows XP Pro, and the Raptor has Pro 64 bit. i was only using the maxtor as an interim drive until more drivers came out for 64 bit, but the drivers i want won't be developed :( So i want to put my 32bit O/S on the faster drive.

I basically want to move the 32 bit o/s, all the existing files/programs/settings to the 74gb drive. Is this possible without using a program such as Norton Ghost? Being that the drives are different sizes, will the partitions stay in place? Will i have to install windows fresh on the 74gb drive and just sit there all day moving stuff?

I need help to create a macro to copy data in a range of cells resulting from another formula to a range of cells on another worksheet. Specifically: Summary!B2:B25 to Inventory!C3:C26.
The data in cells Summary!B2:B25 is resulting in a commands like =('7788'!I2) from other worksheets

When I record the macro and select the source cells then paste at the destination cells, It copies the formula from the source cells and increases the column in the source formula by 1 to the right and looks like =('7788'!J3).

I believe I need to use a macro for this as the 'Inventory' sheet has a few different columns for doing physical counts on different days. The macro will just load the current on hand count from the 'Summary' page to the column of choice. The next time a physical count is done, the next column will be used and current on hand counts will be copied by the macro to the new column.

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried editting your macro to use the real address values?

A:What formula to copy data to table?

First, a posting tip:When posting in a Help forum such as this, please try to use a Subject Line that tells us something about your question. If everyone used a generic Subject Line such as "I Need A Formula" we wouldn't be able to tell one question from another and the Archives would essentially be useless. I have edited your subject to be more relevant to your question.That said, try this:Put this in D6 and drag it over to K6 and as far down as you need.=INDEX($D$24:$K$35,MATCH($C6,$C$24:$C$35,0),COLUMN()-3)The MATCH function will determine which row of the lookup_array C24:C35 contains the value in C6. It will use that as the row_num argument for the INDEX function. COLUMN()-3 is the column_num argument for the INDEX function. By using the COLUMN() function as opposed to hard-coding the column number of the lookup_array, you can drag the formula over and the column_num argument will update itself.Let us know if you have any questions.Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

I have a "Master" spreadsheet, and on that spreadsheet there are tab names that correspond with about 4 other worksheets. What I am wanting to do is copy the data from the worksheet, to the "Master" workbook's worksheet with the same worksheet name. I have this code:

Subscript out of range
Set wb = Workbooks.Open(Filename:="R:\Test\Master.xls")

Set wb = Workbooks.Open(Filename:="Z:\Test\Test1.xls")
Set wb = Workbooks.Open(Filename:="Test2.xls")

But I keep getting a subscript out of range debug error. Can someone shed some light onto what is causing that error and what modifications need to be made so that the error doesn't continue?

A:Solved: Copy Worksheet Data

When and at which line of code do you get the problem?
Have you tried running the macro step-by-step?

Subscript out of range means that you're referring to something that is not there "out of range"

Since I don't have your files and sheets it can be anything.

Hi Again everyone;

May I please ask for some additional help.

I wish to copy data (not cell formulas) from F115:K115.
I am "trying" to use the following VB formula;

Range(Range("("f115"), Range("f115").end(xltoRight)).Copy Range ("J10")

Actually, the above VB formula copies and puts something into the 7 cells to the right of J10, but it's all gibberish.

I see that I am copying a mish-mash of cell references and so forth, and not 'just' that data (the values) which are in these cells.

Would someone please tell me how to copy 'only' the values which are in cells (F115:K115) ...
Oh yes, the values in these cells (F115: K115) keeps changing (as I want it to do) but the data does remain in these cell locations.

As always, thank you for your help.

A:Please: how do I copy (in VB) only data and not cell formulas and such

Hi J,
I assume you are talking about VBa and Excel (version (?))
If you want to copy a range of cells just do that.

You could even record the macro and see what it does.

Range("J10")..PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues

You select the rannge you want to copy and then select the first cell in the target range and paste

Hope this helps, if not, I suggest you put some more information in your post, you know, we are quite good at helping but guessing and asuming, that's quite a different matter

I was using 250 GB hard disk. Now attached 800GB New hard disk. Both hard disks are showing perfectly. Now i want to copy all data from old hard disk to new hard disk.

For example my "OLD D drive was 50 GB" and "New D Drive is 100 GB" So i want to copy all the data from old d drive to new one. I tried to use "Disk Clone" software. but it was saying partition should be equal. And than i tried "Backup software" so it made whole D drive back with the file name "backup.PBD" .

I can go to old D drive and select all , than copy all the data. And than open new hard disk partition D drive and paste. but it is taking too much time, and not sure it will copy all the data. Or it will give error after few hours. So i want to use software for it.

Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Best Regards,

I'm going to sound really stupid here, but I have ME (six years and counting) and sometimes (often?) am completely 'brain dead' and unable to think logically (or even at all). Today is one of those days...

I want to copy some programs (e.g. AVG internet security) and files/documents from my p.c. to my Acer laptop. I know I should be able to do this with an interface cable, but don't seem to have one with the right end connections.

I guess I should be using one with flat connections either end but I don't have one and can't seem to find anything suitable on the net. Can anyone advise me exactly what I should be looking for - and, as importantly what I should ask/search for?

Just to explain - shall be using my laptop as only source of IT and communication (am also deafened, so use email exclusively) as p.c. is going into storage for 5 weeks due to house move.

Apologies again for appearing such a dunce!

A:Copy programs and data from p.c. to laptop

I don't think you can just move programs by cut & paste like you can with docs & photos - you need to do a fresh install. This site will help you with some more widely used progs.

Sorry I can't help with the cable question.

Hi guys. For the last two days whenever I am starting my PC, just after the MB logo, I am shown a black screen where at the bottom it is written 4th Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD. On searching the net, I found that it indicates my HDD is dying. I am going to buy a new one. How do I transfer the data from the old one to the new HDD? I am not concerned about installed programs, only things like data files, images, songs and such things.
Thanks in advance.

A:How to copy data from old hard disk to new one

After you get the new hard drive and Windows installed. Either install the old drive as a second hard drive or put it in an external USB enclosure and you can copy off what you want to the new drive.

If the data you want isn't that much you could also copy it to a flash drive (USB key) or even burn CD/DVD's.

Which brings up an important point. Your user data, at a minimum should be periodically backed up to some external media or one of the on-line backup services (I like my own media better). If the drive is failing and falied completely all your data would be lost, if not backed up. Backups are not for IF they are needed but for WHEN they are needed.

Im making a database of Purchase Orders, and on one of the screens theres a list box with all the PO's listed which you can double click on to open up a "View PO" form, that displays all that purchase order details.

It was all working fine, until i got rid of my test PO's and copied and pasted the real PO's from an excel spread sheet. The PO's appear in the listbox, with the few details the listbox provides, but double clicking them opens up "View PO" completely blank.

Any new purchase order i make will have its details displayed, and i even went back to an old .mdb (as opposed to the front end/back end .mde's i was using) to test it, and in there SOME will display data, others wont.

Really stuck on this one, can generally just google the error message and find an answer, but there is no error message..

thanks for any help

If you still need help on this, I would suggest that you look at the Relationships of your tables.
If you have more than one Table in your database you may need data in the other tables to allow the View PO form to display the data.
By pasting the PO data in, you may be missing the required data in the other table(s).

Copy of Data to textbox

Attached is a copy of the file I had fixed by "XCubed" and which is working perfectly, but as you can see on the file sheet "Report" I do need another textbox on the Invoice which is pointed out to where it should go. I need to no what code should be added to put the data from sheet "data" in the exstra box.
Any help anyone? I hope the link above to the previous thread works

A:Solved: Copy of data to textbox

Hi Rusty

You don't say what data you want in the new text box. Here is the code you would need to add to cmdViewReport_Click()

wkt2.Shapes("Text Box 47").Select
Selection.Characters.Text = wkt1.Cells(rowpos, 17).Value

and where it has "(rowpos, 17)" you would replace "17" with the column you want to pick up.

This will apply to any new text box you add. When you add or "select" a text box you can see (and change) the text box name just to the left of the formula bar. Then add the code as above referencing the new text box name.

i have just been given an old harddisk that was replaced on a friends PC as it started to make a noise. however, they wanted to know f they could get some data off it.

as this is a boot disc is there any way I can put it into a system as a 2nd drive set to slave and see the data - or will it try and boot and the system see 2 "C:" drives?????

A:how to put old boot disk in pc to copy data

You should have no problem putting the disk into your system as a slave drive. It will not boot if there's already a bootable Primary Master hard drive in the system. And as long as the drive is not formated in NTFS and you're not using Windows9X to view it, then you should not have any problems - given the drive still works.

Just set it as Slave if attaching it to a cable with an existing drive or leave it as Master and put it alone on the Secondary IDE.

I have a combo box with 3 columns showing, at least in the drop down section. The box itself just shows the text from the 2d column, which is just perfect. What I would like to be able to do is copy that text and paste it elsewhere on my spreadsheet. I learned how to use the LinkedCell, but the text from the combo box that I want to copy will need to copied to different places. Is there a way to link the combo box to the active cell or to be able to drag the text to another cell?

Basically, I have a long list of names, and I want to be able to scroll through it, pick out the name I need and stick it in a cell, find the next name, and stick it in another cell, and so on. I would like to keep the array from which I'm populating the combo box on a different worksheet from the one on which the combo box resides and onto which I need to copy and paste in those names. Can I do this?

Workbook's A & B have the following on worksheet 1

Columns B & C contain cell data
Columns D, E, F & G contain combobox data

All data is in rows 6 -34

Workbook C has the same as above, yet on 3 different worksheets

What I want to be able to do is -

Code a button on Workbook C to copy the data from Workbook's A & B to Workbook C's worksheets "Mary" & "John"
Then have it copy the data from these worksheets to a "master" worksheet contained in workbook C.

In otherwords I want to be able to keep Mary & Johns data on seperate worksheets, yet still have an overall view of all of the data - is this possible ??

EXCEL Question:

I am needing to copy cells from one tab to another (and only copy cells with data) using a Macro.

Tab "Checkout" has data starting in cell A3, B3 and C3. This data could have one or more rows/columns.

I am wanting to copy this data into the "Database" tab. If there is something already entered on row, I need it to go to the next to insert the copied data.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

A:Copy only cells with data into another tab using a Macro

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Do you have some knowledge of VBA? If so it's quite simple.
Record a macro to copy one row from one sheet to the other.
Stop recording after that.
Open the vba editor Alt+F11 and take a look at the macro code.
If you do not have vba knowledge, then it's another matter.
Question: what happens with duplicate numbers in column B?
I don't think you just want to copy everything from sheet 1 to sheet 2?
Maybe a little more background information?

Back this up, and put a copy on the new PC. It should be quite a large file.
Open Outlook, File - Import and Export - Import from another program or file - select Personal Folder file (.pst) - next - Browse to the file you transferred, follow the menus as required.

A:Backup Making a second copy of data drive

I highly reccommend Acronis True Image 10. It works with Vista as well as XP. I backup my "C" drive with the OS and programs on it in about 30 minutes. My data drive which contains about 87GB of data takes less than an hour to backup to an internal backup drive. I do this by making "exact images" of the drives. If any of my working drives go bad I simply replace and restore the image from my backup drive and I'm back in business as if nothing happened. Or, in case a file becomes corrupted or accidentially deleted, I can restore individual files very quickly. This program has saved my butt several times and it's well worth the price. NewEgg has it for $39.99 here:
or you can get the downloadable version for only $31.99 at NewEgg.

I have a shared 2003 excel spreadsheet that has sheets for each user to input data into on a daily basis. I then have a master sheet that I compile all the data onto. Usually i have to copy the data from each user sheet individually, and then paste it on the master sheet. From there I filter the data on the master and build reports from that data. And there lies the problem, it is very time consuming to do that on a bi-weekly basis.

What i'm seeking to do is have a formula to do that for me automatically or some way to compile that data quickly on the seperate sheet. All this data is in the same workbook. I need to be able to compile all the individual cells in column A of the user sheets, and paste them into column A of the master sheet(colum b from users to column b of master, etc), without adding cells together, or anything like that. Each individual cell in a column from each user sheet needs to be copied and have it's own cell of the same column of the master sheet. I have 15+ user sheets with two tables of data, and two masters for each table of data, that needs to be transferred over bi-weekly for reporting.

Anyone know a formula or process that could do this either automatically or quickly without having to manually copy and paste the data? I do not have access to VBA or the ability to install anything since this is a work computer.

I'm trying to create a piece of macro code that will pick up all populated cells in a column (E10-E84), and copy both the value in that cell and the value on the same row in column A. I'd like the info from column A to be pasted into column A in an entirely different workbook, and the corresponding data from column E from the original worksheet to go into column B of the new worksheet. Data from the same row in the first spreadsheet needs to remain on the same row in the second. There is also information beyond row E84 which I do not want.

Here is what I've cobbled together so far, but it currently doesn't pick up any data which is a fairly big flaw!:
Sub MoveEM()
Dim wb1 As Workbook
Dim wb2 As Workbook
Dim rng1 As Range
Dim rng2 As Range
Workbooks.Open Filename:="Z:\DPC MI Folder\Copy of RPHD 2013-2014.xls"
Set wb1 = Excel.ActiveWorkbook
Workbooks.Open Filename:="Z:\DPC MI Folder\Checking Workbook.xls"
Set wb2 = Excel.ActiveWorkbook
On Error Resume Next
Set rng1 = "wb1.Range(E10 - E84).SpecialCells(xlConstants)"
On Error GoTo 0
If rng1 Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Set rng2 = wb2.[b1]
rng2.PasteSpecial xlPasteValues
'copy column I to Output C2
rng1.Offset(0, 7).Copy

rng1.Offset(0, 12).Copy
rng2.Offset(0, 2).PasteSpec... Read more

A:Locate non-blanks in a column and copy certain data from the row

You have a couple of problems here:

1) The reason it doesn't seem to fail at a particular point is because you have employed "On Error Resume Next," which is a poor practice and should be avoided whenever possible. If that were not there, you would receive an error when the code stopped working. My recommendation would be to remove this line and implement a proper error trap.

2) This line:

Set rng1 = "wb1.Range(E10 - E84).SpecialCells(xlConstants)"

should be:

Set rng1 = wb1.Range(E10:E84).SpecialCells(xlConstants)

When you put quotes around something, it makes it a string and you are trying to assign a range object, not a string. Also, the colon should be used in place of where you have a hyphen. Hopefully, this will help!

Then once it is put into the worksheet, to save it with whatever the name is from Column A in the first worksheet.

I figured that there needs to be a loop statement in the end so it will get all the grouped data together into seperate worksheets.

It depends on what infection was on the machine. If it is a file infector such as Virut or Ramnit, then no - those pics or music files may be infected as well and will reinfect a new install withina matter of minutes.

I've recently purchsed a new laptop with a combo DVD/CD RW drive. When trying to copy data (MP3, jpegs, etc) backed up on CD from my desktop, the drive often fails to read and I get error message "I/O Device Error" sometimes it will copy 100mb before doing this, sometimes it will not read anything. I've tried various CDs burnt on different PCs but all have failed. Purchased software seems toload OK. Even a CD burnt on my laptop failed to copy all the data back onto my hard drive, but all these Cs work on my desktop and work laptop.
The vendor insists that there is not a problem and it's common for some DVD/CD drives not to read all CDs. Is this correct. Is it because I'm trying to copy data by draging it? It's strange as it's an intermittent problem

A:I/O Device Error - Copy Data from Burnt CDs

If you can copy at least some DVD/CDs then the problem is media.
Make sure that the media has no scratches or dirt or finger prints on it.
Some drives are very picky as to media.

Hi Everyone.

I have a Workbook with two work sheets. One sheet is called Course Data and the other is a sheet called Instructor Stats.

The Instructor Stats sheet has a cell B5 to enter an Instructors initials and a command button that when clicked will search the Course Data sheet for that Instructor.

I need help with the vba code that when the command button is clicked it searches the Course Data sheet for the Instructors initials in Column I and copies all occurances of that Instructors entries from B28 to N28 on the Course Data sheet and downwards too the end of the sheet, and copies them to the Instructor Stats sheet and places them in cells B14 to N14 and downwards on this sheet.

Can anyone help at all with this ? It would be really appreciated. I am only just starting to learn a bit about Excel and havant even looked at VBA yet

I have a new computer with Outlook 2003 installed. I moved my Outlook 2002 personal.pst from the old machine to the new one and opened it in Outlook 2003 and copied each file folderís information to the new file folders in Outlook 2003. Every thing is ok except the calendar.

I can't figure out a way to copy the calendar folder from the old pst file without creating a new calendar folder in the Outlook 2003 file. I end up with two calendar folders and I only want one.

I've tried to drag and drop from the left window pane under calendars and nothing happens. I've also tired to select the pst calendar/right click/copy and paste to the new calendar folder and it creates a second copy.

I've also tried to export to a text file, but you lose all your reoccurring appointments.

I know there must be an easy way to do this. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this.Please refer this spreadsheet. table 1, at functional role column (F7), there is list of functional role that I have to choose. At table 2 (AX6:DS25), I put this formula for cell AX9 =IFERROR(INDEX($C$203:$BX$231, MATCH($F9,$B$203:$B$231,0),1),"") so that when I choose the respective functional role, it automatically copied data from table 3 to table 2. My question is, how can I combine formula so that I can choose another list (Specific position column (G7), so that the data from table 4 can be copied to table 2, based on the specific position i choose.Please note that the row header is the same for table 2, table 3 and table 4. I hope u guys can understand my question.\Thanks in advance.

I have a workbook (sample attached) which lists customer data in cols A to J. Each customer has a main ref (col B) and may have any number of secondary refs in cols L onwards. Col K shows how many secondary refs the customer has, and is used in the code below to determine how many blank rows to add for those customers that have 1 or more secondary refs (1 row per ref)
Sub Insert_Row()
Dim I As Long
LASTROW = Range("C" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For I = LASTROW To 2 Step -1
If ((IsNumeric(Cells(I, "K"))) And (Cells(I, "K") <> Empty)) Then
Range(Cells(I + 1, 1), Cells(I + Cells(I, "K"), 1)).EntireRow.Insert
End If
Next I
End Sub
The attached shows the worksheet having run the code
What I need now is for the code to do 2 more things Ė
1. Once the blank rows have been inserted for e.g. the customer in row 5, the value in L5 to be copied to B6, and the value in M5 to be copied to B7. (Could select, then transpose?)
2. Then copy the values in cells C5:J5 into the same columns in rows 6 & 7. (Not bothering with col A)
Sheet 2 shows the end result Iím after Basically, Iím consolidating main and secondary refs for each customer into one list.
Hope someone can help?

I have a budget workbook set up in Excel, and in that workbook there are many different sheets all part of the one book.

I have created a formula in one sheet from the data that is collected there, and that data is important for information collected on another sheet. I want to copy the formula and the data from that from that sheet and have it appear in the other excel sheet. I also want the data to change on the second excel sheet as the results from the formula change in the first sheet.

When i have tried to just copy and paste the formula from one sheet to the next I just get a ref error.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

I would like to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop, but when attempting to backup important files by copying them to a blank cd, I received a message stating that my CD drive "is not accessible" and I am performing an "incorrect function," so I'm putting that option aside until I figure out what the heck is up with that.

On the other hand, I've somehow, miraculously (well, miraculous for me since I'm new at this) figured out how to print from my laptop through my desktop's printer by setting up a network (at least, that's what I think I did), so I was wondering if it would also be possible to backup files from my laptop to my desktop as well. Can I make that happen or is this just wishful thinking? My desktop also runs on Windows XP.

Could someone please throw me a bone here? I'd appreciate it.

A:Solved: Can I Copy Data From One Computer To Another Through A Network?

Yes you can! I don't have a bone to spare, but maybe this wizard will help.

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC other than XP or 2k Pro or Vista or 7.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, accept the offer to load other drivers if your other PCs have different Operating System(s).

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (up to 15 minutes) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

I am using Windows XP with SP3. Prior to the profile being corrupted I've had multiple warnings that my C: drive is running out of space. I already have a 2nd drive and I'm trying to find out about getting a 3rd.

My user profile on my desktop has been corrupted. I found instructions on how to copy the data from the old user profile to a new one, however I cannot find the file the instructions are looking for.

The instructions say to copy from the old file into the new. The problem is I cannot find the correct file.

The profile names on the desktop are Christina (me), Scott (dh), and William (ds). As you can see from the screenshot of Windows Explorer, only Scott and William are listed as seperate folders. I believe the "Christina" setting are under "Compaq Owner", but I'm not sure.

I created a new user profile in Control Panel and named it "Mom". However, it does not show up in Windows Explorer as a named folder.

I took the screenshot while logged into my dh's user profile.

I need help finding out why the new user name doesn't appear in Windows Explorer and how I can verify if I have been using the Compaq Owner account as shown in the files. Then I need to find out how to properly copy the data from the corrupted profile.

Thank you,

Christina in GA

I would like to ask a favor from the specialists here : I need a VBA code that can copy some tables/ charts from a website. The website is, and the tablesare placed in the section: Results (at the bottom of the page)> Search Criteria: (Sport: Virtual Soccer, Date: Last 48 hrs, Search by : Virtual Soccer). Then you click the button ?Get Results?. Then the website will display a list of the matches from the last 48 hrs. First of all, I need the code to open each match in a separate window and to copy a table from that page, and then to paste it in Excel. Secondly, if I repeat the action after 8hrs, for example, the site will show the matches from thelast 48hrs, and the code will have to check which is the last table I copied and to continue to paste from that point on, on the same sheet.In order to make things more clear,
Thank you in advance!
PS: In order to be able to access the section ?Results?, autentification is required, and I will provide the usename and password in private.

I have a Workbook(User) that contains data for the issues that have been resolved. Every week I need to pull out a copy (certain columns) of the data that meet a certain criteria and paste it into another workbook(Master) for manipulation.
For Instance I need to copy alll the rows that have "yes" as Feedback and paste it into another workbook.
I want Macro to be stored in one file only(Master). I need to report data on weekly basis and want a new file to be created each week.

I have attached the prototype of files that I am using.

A:Copy data from one workbook to another which meets the criteria

Welcome to the board.

"Every week I need to pull out a copy (certain columns) of the data that meet a certain criteria and paste it into another workbook(Master) for manipulation. For Instance I need to copy alll the rows that have "yes" as Feedback and paste it into another workbook."

While it's possible that "manipulation" includes other actions you're not telling us about, including the Master book in the process at all appears to be complicating things unnecessarily.

With your User.xls active, you could just run this:

Sub test()
x = Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
Range("N1") = "Check"
Range("N2:N" & x).FormulaR1C1 = "=IF(RC[-5]=""Yes"",""X"",0)"
Range("N:N").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeFormulas, 1).EntireRow.Delete
End Sub

to get a new book with only the rows from User.xls where Feedback = "Yes". You could then save this new book with the date in the name.

"I want Macro to be stored in one file only(Master)."

Storing it in your personal macro workbook would be better. See "Record a macro" in Help.

sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. not sure if i should be in the hardware or the software forum.

i am going to upgrade my os from win98se to either win2000 or win xp (pro or home - any suggestions on which is more appropriate?). i will probably also need to upgrade to a new larger hard drive (60-80 GB). i think i can just simply copy over the data files on my old hard drive over to the new drive.

what i am wondering is if there is some way i can just copy over all the applications installed on my previous old hard drive that was operating under the win98se os. i have quite a few applications and to have to re-install all the applications and reset all the preferences to my existing settings would probably take quite a bit of time. just trying to see if there is a shortcut to all those troubles.

A:copy data & applications from old hard drive

All "applications" will have to be re-installed.

When an application is installed, all the registry keys are updated with the location of all the library files etc. To just copy over the applications will cause them to fail as
this information is unknown.

Also I would suggest XP Home, unless you are going to connect to a large corporate domain, or need to run a dual processor server, Home is adequate.

What is better when moving large amounts of files and data (20+) to either copy or cut the files? Or does it not make a difference?

I was told cutting fragments your hard dive while copying does not.

I've only noticed that cutting is faster.

If you Copy, you aren't moving anything. Cut will move it though. w7 will auto defrag your drive at any rate.

I have an excel file that has a sheet with pipeline information on loans (sheet name is "Pipeline"); there is a unique identifier on column D (loan number) in that sheet. In that same excel file but a different sheet called "Projections" that same unique identifier (loan number) is on column "D", there are 4 other columns with data that I would like to copy over to the Pipeline sheet from the Projections sheet based on the loan number match.I would like the macro to match the loan # on column D (range is D2:D600) from Pipeline sheet to column D in Projection sheet (same range) and if found I would like to copy the contents of columns I, J, K and L from the Projections sheet to the same columns in the Pipeline sheet for each loan number that matches.I honestly don't know where to start, I usually use the macro recorder and tweak from there but the macro recorder doesn't really help you create the logic, can anyone help me?

A:Macro to copy data from one sheet to another based on match

Why don't you just use VLOOKUP?The basic formula for Pipeline!I2 would be as follows. Drag this down as far as required.=VLOOKUP($D2,Projections!$D$2:$L$600,6,0)For Pipeline!J2 use =VLOOKUP($D2,Projections!$D$3:$L$600,7,0)To expand on this a bit, you could put this in Pipeline!I2 and drag it both down and across to Column L.=VLOOKUP($D2,Projections!$D$2:$L$600,COLUMN()-3,0)Finally, to eliminate the #N/A error that will occur if a value isn't found on the Projections sheet, put this in Pipeline!I2 and drag it down and across.=IFNA(VLOOKUP($D2,Projections!$D$2:$L$600,COLUMN()-3,0),"Not Found")Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.message edited by DerbyDad03

I have two Western Digital 1Tb HD's which I use for archiving and are carbon copies of each other and my third installed OS HD. They are both external to my computer, in fact one came as part of a WD My Book.

Previously, I had my Asus P5Q Deluxe fitted and I could just plug the two HD's into the PSU with a spare power cable and connect them to the mobo with a couple of Sata cables and copy any data from the main installed HD or replicate data between them. No problem.

However, due to RAM issues, I have swapped the mobo out for my Asus P5W DH Deluxe. I just assumed I could go ahead with my adhoc method of plug and play HD connectivity but after shutting down my desktop, wiring in just one archive HD and powering up, the computer went a bit funny.
All the icons had shifted over to my TV display, next to my desktop, while my monitor's desktop pic got squashed vertically with vertical letterbox lines left and right, pretty much as though I had been messing with the AMD Catalyst Control Centre.

Any ideas why plugging in an HD (or two) into the spare Sata/EZ Raid sockets would cause this? Why didn't it behave like P5Q, e.g. plug & play style, or as if I had simply plugged in the HD via the USB?

One thing I forgot to check was if the HD showed up in 'My Computer' while the icons and what not were on the TV screen.

A:Problem making adhoc HD connection to copy data

Nevermind. I plugged the two archive HD's into the mobo today and all is fine and copying perfectly.

Hi All,This is probably pretty easy but I cant seem to find what Im looking for on any other forums. I have a master sheet that I am keeping a list of names, personal information and a seperate colum for each skill set the individaul can perform. Basically what I want, is if there is a Yes in a particular colum for a specific skill set, it will copy all of their information onto a seperate sheet. If the cell is blank then no action needed. The other sheet will then create a new list of all the individuals with the same skill set but keep the master sheet as is. I also need this rule to work for each colum, and each colum to correspond to its own sheet. This means that for individuals with multiple skill sets, they will be listed on each sheet.Not sure if this makes any difference (and Im assuming it doesnt, but I am using a mac with office 2008)Hope that makes sense and that someone can help.Thanks in advance for your input.

I am using Windows XP and am in the process of creating a data partition on my C-drive to make it easier to do backups. My question:For the backup of the data partition, is there an advantage in creating an image of the partition on an external hard drive as opposed to simply copying it?If I first do a disc-check just before restoring and some sectors are labeled as bad, then would restoring an image simply try to write data on to the bad sectors whereas restoring a copy of the files would presumably skip any bad sectors?Thanks,Thoughtful Skeptic

A:To backup data files, is it better to create an image or a copy?

First of's better to create your image/backup/ another drive.More drives lessens the chance that a single thing can ruin your day, shares the risk among at least two drives.Creating a data partition on the same drive affects chkdsk, defrag, running AV/malware scans, etc...these run quicker if C: partition is smaller...and it (somewhat) reduces the chances of total loss if a portion of the hard drive goes bad.In order to copy or clone a must use special software. Some of these programs will create partitions which are bootable, some will need to read the specifics of the program before you ever install it and use it.Bad sectors recognized via chkdsk /r...are areas which are marked as unuseable and any data on such is moved to sectors which are useable. After chkdsk /r has completed, those sectors so marked...remained identified as unuseable. No data will be written to such.Louis
