Solved: stupid WildTangent games and categories still show up in my games folder

Q: Solved: stupid WildTangent games and categories still show up in my games folder

I got rid of the WildTangent games console that came on my Toshiba computer, however, the games still show up. I have carefully removed registry entries related to it(making a backup of the registry) and they still remain. I have also used Revo Uninstaller Pro and removed what it found. What am I doing wrong, I know they aren't doing me any harm, but they annoy the @!#$$ out of me.

Hello, I have a question regarding wildtangent games. I have an HP Windows 7 64-bit OS. The exe and games came pre-installed from factory default, and aware that wildtangent is garbage, I proceeded to uninstall. First, I uninstalled the program from my list in control panel, but broken shortcuts to games still remained in my games folder. I later read that second you need to use the uninstaller from an hp games folder inside of another folder called program files x86 to finish removing the broken links. Unfortunately, I deleted the hp games folder thinking that it was leftover files that weren't removed, thus deleting the uninstaller in the process. I tried using HP recovery tools and Recuva to restore the deleted files, but they could not be restored. I also tried re-installing the wild tangent games app with hope that the missing files needed to finish the removal would also be reinstalled, but to no avail. If there is anyone out there that has a solution to my problem, I would be most grateful. Thanks for your time!

A:cannot remove wildtangent broken shortcuts from games folder. HELP!!!

Have you spoken to HP themselves? Usually you can use the Add/Remove Programs but since this is separate to windows, i don't know if that would help.

What is your operating system? Windows Vista? Windows 7? If so, have you tried performing clean boot to see if any services are causing this issue?

None of my Wildtangent games will run. When I click on the icon, the screen will blink and the "Last time played" notice will update but the game wont run. Also, when I try to install Wildtangent's new app, it wont run. I can download the installer but when I get the notice "Do you want to allow......" when I click yes, the box goes away and nothing else happens. I am running Windows 7 64 bit system with Macafee Internet Security. I've tried to set up a chat session with Macafee, but it wont load. I have tried installing the latest versions of IE and Flash, turned off Macafee's pop-up blocker and everything else I can think of. Other than this problem, my computer is running just fine. My last security scan found no problems and Macafee says my system is secure. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was under the impression Vista was supposed to automatically download game information from allgame.com and display the game's information when you click on the thumbnail? My Vista hasn't done that since I installed BF2 and I haven't been able to manually add information using VGEE because I accidentally deleted the BF2 information and haven't been able to get another games information to show up since!

Hi. I am new to Vista and I made a serious error I think. When copying over files to my new computer, I put some folders into 'Games.' This is the one on the start menu, under pictures and music on the right side. Well, when I try to open the folder it tries to run it as an application. Any attempts at relocating this folder have failed also. What can I do to fix this?

A:Solved: Vista Games Folder

Just either delete them or move them

Open the Games folder by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Games, and then clicking Games Explorer.

Okay, I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite Notebook. When I open the Games folder in Vista I'm given the list of installed games on my pc but when I try and open one of them through the games folder, I'm told that I need to set an association for the file in the set associations panel. It was working fine and then just out of nowhere it starts with this error message.

I haven't done anything to try and fix this, because I don't know what I could do. When I noticed this message appearing I couldn't think of any crashes prior to this, no unnusual activity or any reason why it would just out of the blue decide to stop working. I've tried searching the net over for someone else who was having this same problem and found nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Andy

A:[SOLVED] Games Folder/Set Associations Error Message

Hi Andy

. . . and Welcome to the Tech Support Forums.

Quick-Fix Try: use Vista's built-in System Restore utility, selecting a restore point from before the trouble began. Navigate to Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore. There is good information on how to use the program in the Help & Support areas - either from the Vista start menus, or from the Help section in the utility's toolbar.

Should that not help:

1) To view logs of recent errors or changes on your computer, you can check the EventViewer logs. You may be able to trace the origin of the trouble there. EventViewer is in the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel (or you can simply right-click on the Computer item in your Vista Start Menu, and select Manage, then EventViewer). For some errors and events, Microsoft provides links to webpages that contain information on how the error can be resolved.

2) Scan for malware. Anytime you are faced with unusual and unexpected system behavior, this is a good step to take. Scan as thoroughly as your locally installed programs allow, scan from both normal mode and from Safe Mode, and try an online scan to double-check that your local tools are doing their jobs.

3) Is it only a certain game (such as Minesweeper in your screenshot) that has the error? Or are all the game associations missing? Is the same true for any of your other installed programs? If yes = have you recently tried any Registry modifying software?

I'm about to wipe my Hard Drive and install Win 7 on this machine.

Isn't there a way to make it so when a folder opens, I see ONLY the headings I want to see? Such as...Name/Date Created/Date Modified and NOTHING ELSE?
No matter how many times I change it, it's got all this useless(to me) crap cluttering up the categories bar in the folder.

I want to change it and make it STAY changed.
Folder options doesn't help. There's nothing there to choose what is and isn't there as headings or categories.

I was wondering, if you have a good gaming computer, and you have a program like log me in or go to my pc or something, would you be able to like play intense 3D games on like an old windows 98 laptop?

I mean, all the processing power would be computed by the gaming pc and the results would just be displayed by the laptop.

I'm guessing the answer is no. Maybe there would be too much lag for games. I don't know. But that would be cool if you have a good gaming pc and could take your games with you on the go with a cheap used laptop.

A:Stupid question about remote access applications and games

you want to stream games?
in theory its possible - youd have to have acces to a server and have the gaming pc on all the time, perhaps even patching the gaming pc as a server?

but im not sure on the practical issues - sorry.

OK guys, brace yourselves. This is going to sound the most stupid of stupid questions. However...

I recently got a new laptop, which has Windows Vista Home Premium on it (previously, I had used Windows XP with no problems).

Now, I tried to install a game. I was expecting it to be just a case of putting the CD in, then a screen would pop up giving me the option to install the game- just like every other computer that I've ever owned has done.

However, it doesn't. I put the CD in, and while the laptop makes a bit of noise, no screen pops up, and nothing actually happens.

I referred to the game's instruction manual, and it said if a screen doesn't pop up automatically then "Go to My Computer, then double click the DVD-ROM drive containing the CD, then click setup.exe to launch the start-up screen".

But when I go to "Computer" (from the start menu) there is only 1 CD drive avalialbe to select (C:/) and I do not see the game anywhere in there, not do I see setup.exe (there's a big chance I missed it when looking given I've only had the laptop a couple of days, so if this is the case, please can someone say so, and I'll look again)

Here's a screenshot of what I see when I open "Computer" from the start menu:

Can someone please advise me as to where setup.exe is located, or tell me how to get the start-up screen to load as soon as I put the disk in the CD drive?

A:Installing games on Windows Vista (really stupid question, BE WARNED)

C: drive is NOT your CD. What it sounds like is that the CD drive is not being detected. Normally you'd go to MY COMPUTER and you'd see any drive installed on the computer. If you're NOT seeing a drive D: (or another letter other than C:) then you may have a hardware issue with your computer. From where that picture shows you're located, go to the top and click on where it says COMPUTER and post that picture.

Hello there, so I've had this problem a few months ago and I now decided that it needs to be fixed. Whenever I launch games like CS:GO, L4D2 etc. They'll be in the task manager, but they'll only show up after waiting for about 5 minutes or so. Also when I try to play them offline they will usually stop responding before the loading ends, but again if I wait long enough they'll start responding again. I want to know if this is possible to fix, also thanks in advance

To start this out let me exsplain my hardware and configuration.
Im running 3 computers all 3 are hooked to a linksys 4-port router model#BEFSR41...which is then hooked to a cable modem.
everything is working fine.no problems with anything..
One issue though....I like to play Counterstrike, sometimes i will create a internet game so I can play with a few of my friends.
Now, one of my friends will add my IP address to pingtool and scan to see if it is running...nothing...he will then go into the Counterstrike menu and add my IP address in there also...nothing....ok...Then i was wondering if one of my other computers i have networked together would be able to see it...so i added the IP address of my host computer in pingtool and whalla...found it....also tried it in the counterstrike menu...found it..now im not understanding why my computers can see it and he cannot...The IP search program such as pingtool is a internet based program...doesn't make sence...i have a bunch of extra feature with my Router such as DMZ hosting, Port Forwarding,Blah, blah, blah.
which im sorry to say i really know nothing about those areas.
right now as im typing this, i started a internet game on one of my other computers..the IP address is 192.168.1.100:27015
maybe someone who see's this can see if my hosted game is showing up on there end>>

This has happened with every game I've installed that didn't come with the install of Vista - http://i36.tinypic.com/6o0kky.png

I've uninstalled the games, re-installed, right clicked and pointed to the game icons manually and still Vista refuses to display the correct icons in the preview panes. I'm at a complete loss as to what is preventing them from displaying correctly instead of one of the default system icons and have so far been unable to find a solution. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Is there a possible solution other than potentially a reinstall of the OS or at least a repair install?

I am using 7 Pro & this is about the Games folder that pops-out to the right & lists all the games on the comfuser. I've done this many times before for many other games, but it's not working at all for this particular game that I'm installing for my daughter: Jumpstart 1st Grade.

This is what I have done:
1. I made a folder in the C:\ for Jumpstart 1st Grade w/game shortcuts in it.

2. I then dragged the Jumpstart 1st Grade folder into the Games folder on the Orb menu (as I've done many times before).

3. I open & search the GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll file (which I have in .txt format) for Jumpstart.

4. In the Registry, under the the Jumpstart 1st Grade folder, I change the AppExePath to the location of the game's folder.

5. Still in the Registry, I change the ApplicationId to the GameDefinitiongameID for Jumpstart (from the GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll file).

6. I then change ConfigInstallType from 4 to 3.

7. Deleted the Title String.

8. Added a new String named ConfigGDFBinaryPath & set the value toC:\Windows\system32\GameUXLegacyGDFs.dll.

9. I close the Registry & open GEF, but Windows never updates the game information. The game's pic & info never changes & when I reopen the Registry, nothing gets updated. It just stays as seen in the pic below. As I've said; I've done this many times before, it's just not working this time. Any ideas?

This problem has occurred "somewhat"(I don't know when exactly) recently. I used to be able to play full screen games just fine but now (for some reason), everytime I launch a full screen game, it auto minimizes.

When I alt+tab back(or click the game icon on the task bar), it remaximizes the game but quickly gets minimized after a second.

Games play fine while in "windowed" mode(Warcraft 3, etc).. Full screen keeps minimizing.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit):

Nvidia GeForce 8300(onboard video card).
I've done scans with Avast, Malware Bytes, and Super Antispyware and they all found nothing.

Three months ago(same system), full screen games played fine however I was on sort of a "full screen" gaming break, so I only recently tried playing full screen games like Warcraft 3 and this is when I encountered the "auto minimizes" problem.

The only major difference(between the time full screen games worked and now) is Avast 5. I upgraded from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5, other than that, there were no other major changes with the computer I am on.

Avast 5 is on Silent/Gaming mode, and I tried disabling all the shields temporarily to see if it would fix the issue but it didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas(or need anymore info that may help)? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Hello, I try to play old and new Games on the HP ZBook 15 G2 but each time between 2 - 15 minutes the Game freezes while the sound is still playing for at least 5 minutes until I can play further. It seems like the graphics card is buffering something like on a Video stream until I can continue playing. The Games work perfectly before and after this kind of game freeze. Is this a known issue? What could be the issue? Usually Games should either lag, being slower with less fps, have screen tearing, etc. but somehow buffer a Game for minutes until it works completely fine again is new to me. The same Games work on a much less performant HP 840 G1 Notebook but of course I need to turn down the graphics options depending on the Game. What is also odd it seems in general there are issues with using ALT+TAB to get to Windows while in a Game which works fine on my other PC. Hardware: Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and NVIDIA Quadro K2100M What I tried:I installed the latest Windows 10 64-Bit Version with all updates, used the HP Support Assistant Tool to install every Update it found. After the issue still there I later tried to install the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Intel website (20.19.15.4483 from July 2016), the latest Nvidia Driver from the Nvidia website from the stable branch 21.21.13.7563 from October 21st 2016. Tried to disable the internal Intel Graphics Card but e.g. Battlefield 1 is then compla... I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Does anyone know how to keep the Vista Games Explorer from automatically adding entries for games? I currently have a completely empty VGE and upon launching any of my games via double-clicking their exe, VGE creates a new entry once the game is closed. I already unchecked both "Download information about installed games" and "List most recently played games" in the VGE options window but that didn't help. I have a third party program that lets me add my own custom entries so obviously I'd like to add them manually so I have more control over fine details. I know that the automatically-created entries can be hidden after the fact, but that really clutters up the third party editor since it displays all games in its list, hidden or otherwise. Any thoughts?

Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.

And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. Maybe the installer had some incompatibility with Windows 8 and it never got posted on the start screen as an app? Anyway, go to the folder, right-click on a missing game, and see if you get any "pinning options."

So I recently (using one of the walkthroughs on this site) was able to manually remove the shortcut arrow, it worked great, but I think I may have screwed something up along the way. I use the Games folder to get to my games quickly, but after messing with removing the shortcut icons, games will no longer run from in the folder. I receive the following error when I try to load a game from the folder: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. The only problem, these are shortcuts, there is no program associated with shortcuts, is there? Anyway can anyone tell me how to make the folder work right.

All other shortcuts outside of that folder work fine, and all the shortcuts go to the right place, and if I load the shortcut from the AppData GameExplorer folder it works fine.

A:Games Folder Problem

I had that same error as well after removing the shortcut arrows. The only way I was able to restore working links in the games folder was to restore the arrows.

I am completely new to Windows 8 since I installed it today, and when I went into the X-Box games app, I couldn?t see any of my purchased games from GFWL, what gives? It would only seem logical or doesn?t it?

A:X-Box Games app and Games for Windows Live account merge?

Well, yeah I was hoping that would happen but at this time there is no merging yet but maybe in the future.
The Xbox games app shows your profile and scores and that is about it. I figure the reason is the games you bought are not Metro Apps which still uses a Client. Maybe the Client would be updated to Xbox Games instead since the client is not in the metro app thing.

I can say the Client works:

Since i bought this rig a year ago i haven't been able to play any games that runs on the valve engine(half life 2, css, portal etc) more than a few seconds and then the comp reboots.
With Bf2 i can play max 30 minutes and Bf2142 maybe one hour then they crash exactly the same way as Valve games..
All other games i have tried runs without any problem, even the more demanding such as Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Dark Athena.
This is really anoying since the only game i bother about is BF and CSS.

My comp consist of:

cpu: q6600
gfx: 8800 gt 512mb Point of View
mobo: gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4
ram: 4gb(2x1gb supertalent02 ddr2 pc2-8900u & 2x1gb dimm ddr2 pc26400u)
psu: 570 watt

Cpu temp is at full load 60c and gpu is at full load 70c, i added an extra fan to the gfx and set the fan to 80%. nothing is overclocked.
I tried with diffrent memorys, changed hdds, reinstalled a bunch of times, reinstalled windows xp 32bit, maybe 10 diffrent nvidia drives, also changed settings for the sound card but none of that made any diffrence.
Havent been able to test with other gfx.

Anyone else hade this issue and manage to solve it then please let me know, also greatful for all suggestions.

Hello, first time poster looking for help as I can't diagnose my issue after trying numerous things. Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

I really appreciate what you guys do and I hope I followed all the instructions right on how to post my logs and stuff, here's the attachment and some basic system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have reinstalled to this computer numerous times.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad q9550 @ 2.83 ghz

GPU: Radeon HD 5770

Mem: 4 Gigs of Memory

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

Code:
ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

A:backup scheme for OS and games folder

I'd back up F with an imaging application.

Make a new full image periodically--say every week or month. Store the image on some totally different drive, possibly external.

If F fails, restore the most recent image to a replacement F.

Acronis should work for that, although it isn't what I'd personally choose.

I don't know anything about the Symantec app.

Hi,

I have several games installed to the "games" folder that came with vista, but when i try to find the program folder for any of the games i can find some of them, but others i can't. not sure if it is because of the "games" folder or because of something else that i am not realizing, but all the games do seem to installed into that folder and not like their own.

Oh and if the games folder is the issue, is there a way to get rid of the games folder?

Hi, I've been having an issue trying to delete a broken icon from an uninstalled game of mines in the Games folder. Whenever I open up the folder it gives me an option to uninstall it and takes me to the Uninstaller in the Control Panel but I've already uninstalled the game so that's no help.

Other than that option there is nothing else I can do to the broken icon. Clicking on it does nothing.

If I can get this issue resolved I'll really appreciate it. Thanks!

A:Broken Icon In Windows Games Folder

Hi there and welcome to EightForums!

Some left over files must have remained. If not, you can remove the entry from the programs list and also left-over registry entries (see below for more details).

Delete the left-overs of that game in the game folder. If the folder is empty, try to run a registry scan with CCleaner to see if any registry entries of the game remained.

If the game was fully uninstalled then you can also delete the entry with CCleaner on the Tools -> Uninstall option.
That way you remove the game from the list of programs.

That should do it.

This problem just started today. The games explorer will not start a new game; it will only try to start saved games (even when there are no saved games). I checked all of the settings and could find nothing that should cause this behavior. The only way I can start a new game is to go the the exe file and start from there. I suppose I could start a saved game, if any, and then go to the menu and start a new game from there. However, I would like to fix this problem. I have a Dell furnished CD for Windows Vista, but I don't know if one can reinstall only the games. I surely do not want to reinstall the OS.

My user account has administrator privileges. When I tried to delete the folder, I am informed that I need permission from SYSTEM.

I tried to give myself permissions in properties, but have had no success.

I click on the 'Sharing' tab

Hello!

I have a weird problem with the folder called "Games" under programs in the start menu. It is NOT the Games Explorer link I'm having problems with.

The Games folder consists of the following folders:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games (Roaming)
%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games

It would seem that the Roaming-folder has a localized name (desktop.ini) - in my case "Spil" and that the Programdata folder does not and is called Games.

The weird thing is that the folder in the start menu has always been called "Spil" and not as it is now "Games".

It's an annoying thing and I don't get it - why has this changed? Is there a way to make this folder appear localized again?

Furthermore, I have some games in both folders which have lost their paths to either the Game Explorer or the actual position on the harddrive - I'm thinking I may have a problem with permissions or the registry?

Maybe someone knows of a way to reset this or where to look in the registry or a way to reset permissions on these folders.

Thank you in advance!

/S?ren

A:Games folder not showing correctly in Start Menu...

After half a year of waiting for a reply and trying different things I figured it out. So to my own future reference here is the solution:Open the %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder
Create a folder named "Games" if not already there
Open a command prompt in the Programs folder and type "attrib Games +R"
Copy the desktop.ini from the %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games folder
Paste the desktop.ini to the %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games folder
And voila! The two localized Games folders magically merge into one localized folder called "Spil" in the Start Menu.

For some reason this folder lost its R-attribute which sometimes happens to the Program Files folder and other system folders as well.

Anyway, hope this helps someone besides myself!

So I play Heroes of Newerth and I crash at least twice per match with BSOD 09F, with 101, and a few others I forget but it's constant and the minidumps never get saved. I just moved all the past minidumps I had into a different folder because I thought it was maybe preventing it from writing to the folder since there was so many. I uploaded my Administrative Events in a compressed zip folder if anyone wants to go thru them.

Found a crash dump from 12-9-2014

A:BSOD playing video games not saving in Minidump folder

Just to re-iterate. My minidump is set to small and automatic restart box is unchecked. It should be making minidumps and I get the blue screen that says its collecting data for crash dump, initializing disk for crash dump, physical memory dump complete. Then it stops doing anything for ten minutes and I have to restart the machine with the restart button. I screenshotted one BSOD. its 0x0A irql_not_less_or_equal

How do I get all my games to appear in the Games app in Windows 8. I have a few games in Steam and they don't appear in the Games Win 8 App.

A:Steam games in the Games application

The Games app is really intended for Microsoft downloaded games; I don't believe there is any way to put your Steam games here. However, if you would like to use the Games library that was in Win7, it carried over to 8, although it does not have a Metro
application. If you need me to help you with that I can.

Ok guys I'm new to the site, I've been having lots of problems with my new computer and a friend said you guys might be able to help me.

Well I just bought a new Computer a clone made by a local computer store.

Anyways here is my problems
I went out and bought Sims 2, Nhl 2005, and Madden 2005 and I'm having problems with every one

with sims 2 the gameplay is not extremely smooth, but I find no matter what I always end up getting a crash message reading "This Application has crashed, this process will be terminated" i get it either in the first 5 minutes or through 2 hours, but everytime I play it usually crashes.

ok with Nhl 2005 the game plays great on the highest resolution, but sometimes just for kicks i get booted to windows without and messages...or sometimes it even reboots my system again with no message. Most of the time when this happends is when I'm exiting a game to the menu screen. Like I find when I transist from game to menu it like changes the screen and I can see my background for a bit.

With madden the game just runs very slow, even on low resolutions with everything turned down. The textures on teh white jerseys look flickery and the field lines are also jumpy.

Now I brought my computer back to the... Read more

Inside of games, my computer is awesome. Once the game is over, nothing is fast. This all started when I got defraggler. I defraggled everything I could find manually, analyzing then slowly started degraggling chunks at a time because I didn't want to wait the day it said it would take to do a full defrag. For some reason, that seemed faster. Before Defraggler, I had to use low graphics in games, and my computer ran fast. Afterwards, they switched. Any help?

I don't have antivirus because I am very careful and don't go on suspicious websites. I've come to realize what "suspicious" websites look like.

OS: Vista is infamous for its constant annoyance to the user. This is somewhat unlikely, but it could be Vista slowing you down. I recommend upgrading to Win7 regardless.

Processor: The processor seems alright, so you're not having troubles there.

RAM: You may want to consider a RAM upgrade, as many applications (including games) do tend to stick around in memory until a restart. I'd have to say the lack of RAM is your issue. It shouldn't take much more, maybe another 1GB-2GB should fix it up.

Graphics: Nice graphics card, by the way. Beats mine ._.
AntiVirus: Well, the fact that you're careful on the Internet does NOT protect you from viruses. Not at all. I strongly recommend installing Avast! Also, I recommend installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and give your computer a nice scan with both of them.

It doesn't happen often but sometimes it freezes for a second while loading a certain game which works fine on another day and gives BSOD. Sometimes it happens after I've loaded the game and am in the moment of playing. My hardware is more than enough for the games I run and I even run them on low-mid even though I can manage high settings. The games I usually run are CS:GO, League of Legends and Modern Warfare 3 [rarely play; received 1 BSOD while loading it]

I've uploaded my dump files.

Thank you.

Usual causes: Device driver, memory, kernel

So what you are to do here is

► Enable Driver Verifier.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

► Test the RAM modules.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Run it for at least eight passes. Preferably overnight.

It started yesterday when I attempted to launch a game (Civilization V) through Steam and got the BSOD error. I uninstalled and re-installed Steam, my graphics drivers, everything I can possibly think of, including a general fix Steam itself responded to me with (which was completely unspecific to my issue - they clearly can't be bothered), and I am to the point where I have asked for a refund for my games, because it is just that hopeless.

In a last ditch effort to get my computer straight, I downloaded BlueScreenView, and this is what it has told me; Mind you, there are multiple errors.

From this afternoon (before driver re-install and disc check):
- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x0000003B
- File names listed as issues: ntoskrnl.exe and tcpip.sys
I also had this issue last night

More recently (after all of my "fixes"):
- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x000000d1
- File names listed as issues: athrx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe (again)

Even in older crashes, ntoskrnl.exe has been listed as an issue, and I don't have enough knowledge of this sort of thing to have any idea what this means! Is there hope for me?

OK, basically whenever I play a game (lately Dawn of War: Winter Assault if curious) in at most 20 minutes, my computer will either
a.) exit game and return to windows citing some error with game or
b.) restart citing error by 'unknown device driver' which is likely my video card.

As you can imagine, both are *highly* annoying. Same problem occured on previous system, which had:

Windows XP Pro
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Soyo Dragon II plus MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM
Audigy II Platinum

and the new system:

Windows XP Pro
BFG 6800 GT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MB
Pentium IV 2.6GHz w/HT <-same as previous
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM <-same as previous
Audigy II Platinum <-same as previous

ATI said it was obviously my fault, and BFG says it might be the card, but since it occured on two systems I can't see why. Could it be the memory/pentium/soundcard/harddrive?

Why would it randomly crash all the time? I can provide any more information as required to assist the diagnosis.

I'm a senior in Aerospace Engineering and damn do I need to relax after a long day of crappy homework, so any help is greatly appreciated.

In continuation of my computer problems (previous issue: BSOD- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED while computer is running - Windows 10 Forums), now I am getting poor performance most of the time from all games 30-40fps in games which I previously got 60-100fps on same settings. There is little to no performance difference between different graphics settings. The poor performance isn't just noticeable in games, but also in normal use of the computer. Stuff like: selecting icons on the desktop, the blue rectangle that resizes is really laggy; dragging windows around my monitors; watching videos on YouTube from Chrome (especially putting in fullscreen and watching in 1080p+). The only time I get good performance is whenever the computer feels like it. There is no reason that I have found for when this happens.

Hi All - I was under the impression that the Games App on my Windows 8 Pro desktop and on my Surface would work in a similar fashion to my windows 8 phone's game app. Whereas all games are located and tracked in the app. Unless I'm missing something the Games App in Windows 8 only tracks and catalogs Xbox games. I have to keep all other games pinned to the start screen. Please tell me I'm missing something! I can understand if I'm not downloading a game from the windows store that it wouldn't automatically be picked up by the games app but I really thought all "Metro Games" would.

Thanks for your help!
