Graphics Problem!! Screen cycles through colours when launching full screen programs.

Q: Graphics Problem!! Screen cycles through colours when launching full screen programs.

Hi,

Last week I had to replace a corrupt HDD on my R730 Samsung Laptop's HDD.
After reinstalling windows 7 I installed the drivers for my hardware according to the Samsung website.

Since this happened, 80% of the time when I launch a program that enters full screen mode, i.e. games (and also sometimes when alt+tabbing out of these applications), the display goes solid black and then begins to cycle through solid colours.

The only thing I can imagine would be causing the problem to occur is when opening the programs the screen resolution changes and somehow causes an error due to the drivers.

The graphics card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics.
The video BIOS is 1994.0
Current Graphics mode is 1600 by 900.

I'd really appreciate any useful comments on this problem as it has become quite tedious. If you need any more information please let me know what it is and the best way to obtain it.

Thanks in advance

Hello all,

I've been having a very annoying problem for quite a while now. When I play games or use any sort of full screen program, it refuse to stay in full screen and flickers to the desktop after a 10-30 minute period...I'm aware this is probably another program trying to take control, but I can't seem to pin it down. I've tried disabling startup programs through task manager and I've also tried ending background process, with no success.

Can someone please advise how to troubleshoot this issue, or let me know an easier way to find out what is going on...

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Matthew

Hello to all. I'm running Win XP Pro and I just recently started having some display problems with a few programs. I haven't added any new hardware or software recently. My problem is this. Some of my games and other programs have an option to go to the full screen mode. However, every time I attempt to do so with any of these programs, Windows XP immediately shuts down and my computer reboots. I can use all of these programs in the windowed mode with no problem. I thought that maybe my DirectX needed updating so I did so. That didn't fix anything at all. I've run diagnostics on my video hardware and DirectX and it tests fine. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what the problem with the full screen mode might be? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Hey all,

I'm having this wierd problem with 2 games now, America's Army, and the new Battlefield1942 demo. I'm on a 64meg Radeon8500. When I launch the game I get this wierd screen thats blueish, and really 'snowy' and flickery, kind of like what you get when you try to watch channels on your TV you don't get, or try to watch cable TV channels without the cable plugged in, or when a movies credits are done and its running blank tape. I cant navigate/see the interface at all.

I took a screenshots to show to my friend with Printscreenbut when I copy the screenshot into paint, the screenshot shows the interface as it should be perfectly fine. I was using the 6098 drivers when this happened. So I upgraded to the 6018s and and 6118s and its still happening.

Another wierd thing is it doesn't happen to America's Army when I run it in windowed mode. Battlefield1942 won't go windowed.

So does anyone know what the heck is up and how I fix it? I'd be extremely grateful. Even if they both could run in windowed mode I still would like to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion dv9310us running Windows Vista 32-bit, SP2 with 2G of RAM. It has been running slower and slower and is now taking appx 10-15 seconds to launch Internet Explorer. It then takes another 10-12 seconds to display the webpage. It will flash a black screen for a few seconds when launching any program, and then the program comes up.

Here are the log files you requested. I appreciate any help you can give me.

hi everyone

got a weird one here

After I switch off the computer, the monitor remains on and cycles through a number of colours. The monitor will not turn off and random colours appear on the screen (full screen) Literally every few seconds a different colour will show on the screen, even though the computer is switched off. The computer is off when this happens so I know this must be related to the monitor. The power button on the monitor wont work and I have to unplug it. This has only just started happening and I'm not sure why this has started as I have changed no monitor options to my knowledge. It seems to be some sort of screen saver/power saving thing....but I dont know. Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

Hi all,
Been having a few computer troubles, last couple of days. Up until now, I have never had a computer crash since building my machine. Occasionally I've had to force-quit a program, but never random crashes.

I've had 6 in the last day or so, though. And none of them have happened with a BSoD. The last one to happen was while watching a movie. I Ctrl+Alt+Del'd and it got stuck showing a message "preparing security options..." with the time-circle(?), but never progressed past that point.

They all seem to happen at random, regardless of what I do. When playing full-screen games, watching full-screen movies, or even just sitting idling. I've tried updating my MOBO BiOS, my gfx driver, tried taking out and setting the RAM again, and even ran a full-system scan with both anti-virus and with CCleaner.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what I should do.

I tried to upload the files from the SF_Diagnostic_Tool, but got a message saying I didn't have the correct Security Token?

If there's any other information that you require of me, please don't hesitate to ask.

For some reason whenever I double click certain programs, such as fable, a full screen game, I get a small loading symbol, then nothing. It stops as though nothing happened.
I have run, McAfee, AVG free, Malwarebytes, ComboFix, and am currently running ad-aware. If Ad-Aware doesnt work then I will also run Ad-Watch wich I have downloaded.
Movies play fine in full screen, it just seems to be a few games so far, but it is becoming quite a hassle. I have also tried simply openiong the game from the cd, to no avail. Fable opens up a small window asking if i want to uninstall or play etc. Once play is clicked, same problem. With the sims and morrowind, i get nothing. A simple little loading symbol for a split second, then nothing.
I have restarted, as required by ComboFix, nothing, and I am sure reinstalling wont work as I installed Morrowind after this problem started.

I'm at quite a loss. Any help at all should be rewarded with a huge slice of cake! I would if I could.

A:Why won't full screen programs load?

Hi nokayin. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

My first thought here from the software end would be an incompatibility with Vista. I suggest that you check these areas for further information if you have not already done so yet:

? The Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr into the Start Search box | right-click on eventvwr.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs.

? Problem Reports and Solutions:
START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check'.

? Reliability and Performance Moniter:
START | type perfmon into the Start Search box | right-click on perfmon that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view both the Performance Moniter and the Reliability Moniter.

The second one especially would list incompatibility, if an issue.

Good Luck to you.. .

Hey there community, I apologise for the need for help and the fact I'm a new member but I hope you are able to help me

My computer has been running perfectly fine for the two years I've had it (Dell XPS 420). The other day as I was watching a film on it, it suddenly blue-screened and restarted straight away followed by the boot up sequence being joined by a range of strange colours appearing all over the screen. I can only describe the colours at the boot-up as; similar to red tetris blocks all over the screen followed by lines of grey and dotted greys horizontal and vertically along the screen.

I am able to see what's going on in the background when these colours appear but it usually doesn't reach the Vista login stage. Presently, I'm using the computer and it's working fine, however, it has already gone a strange colour this morning whilst I was using it and a forced shutdown was then again followed by the strange colours.

I'd appreciate any input you may have that could help me solve this problem

Thanks

Hi all,

I have really bad lag when running any application that requires full screen mode. I've got the latest AMD drivers that supports my GFX card (Asus Radeon 4850). I used to have a Nvidia card and I would just change one of the settings to get rid of the lag. I changed the Graphics card and reformatted the computer so it shouldn't be a driver issue. I have Service Pack 1 and all the updates for Windows installed.

The lag is unbearable for games, so I can't play any games that require full screen, no issues when it's run in windowed mode. I've used FPS monitors while running games (Fraps and MSI afterburner) and the frame rates readings are normal (above 60 always) but it always looks like 20-ish no matter which game I play.

For videos there's always some kind of problem. Used various media players, and different browsers for flash videos but sometime the video skips to the end very quickly, or won't continue playing and halts immediately somewhere along the way.

Used MSI Kombustor to stress out the GPU, and it maxes at 70? at 100% load. Directx 10 stress test seems to be blurry, every other test seems fine to run but would have the lag from being in full screen.

I searched online for possible solutions but couldn't find anything so far. Please help.

Hey everyone, I'm having issues with opening some programs into full-screen mode, these programs include; Warcraft 3, Znesw (Emulator) and also Dosbox.

Here is the problem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kslmBNejfFo

What basically happens is, when I open any of these programs they open, but when I try to engage them into full-screen mode they make then screen black for a second or two and then they are pretty much minimized.
When I try to restore them from being minimized, it once again goes black and minimizes the program.

What I have tried:
-Running a virus scan
-Restarting PC
-Running as administrator, Windows Xp, Vista, etc.

Thank you for your time.

Hello. Every ten to fifteen minutes, whether I be watching a full-screen video from YouTube or playing a video game, my window gets minimized back to the desktop. I've been experiencing this problem for a few months now. I've tried searching to see if anyone else has had similar problems, but none of the solutions I've found (uninstalling AVG, no screen saver) have done anything for me. I took a screenshot of the processes running in my task manager, and I was hoping if someone would indicate to me if any of them could be interfering. If there's a solution to this, process-related or otherwise, I'd appreciate the help.

A:Full-screen programs minimize every 10-15 minutes

Check your screensaver settings. Disable it when watching a video or playing a game.

If using Windows Media Player, click Tools > Options... > uncheck Allow screen saver during playback.

There may be a setting in your video drivers to allow a lower resolution to stretch to fill the whole screen.

As a side note, I don't trust third-party apps to handle my drivers updates...not when they are simple to do yourself, to make sure they are installed properly.

Recently, I've been noticing my computer being slower than usual. Then, a weird pop up shows up. It doesnt show up on my screen, but instead, a blue box appears in the little box in the lower right part of the screen (i forget what theyre called... hehe). This goes away in a matter of seconds so I cant ever see whats going on. It interrupts programs that use the entire screen (aka videogames). Then, about a half hour ago, my mouse stopped working. Its wireless so I put new batteries in, and still nothing. Then I plugged a wired mouse in, and still nothing. The only way for me to maximize them is to go to the taskmanager and double click the program or click 'switch to'. This get's a bit annoying and sucks that I can't just alt tab back to it. The thing is, when I'm in task manager, the program is noted as "Not Responding." If it's not responding, how am I still able to maximize it through the task manager? Any ideas?

And another symptom I have is that some windowed programs (e.g., league of legends client(champion select screen)) keep on automatically refreshing themselves. Like for instance, when I'm typing in the league client, it would start rapidly refreshing or changing priorities or something, such that I can't even type a few words without having to click back to the program in the taskbar. I've tried malware scans with malwarebytes antimalware, as well as windows security essential. A few trojans and malwares came up, but none of them fixed my issue.

Sorry if this is hard to understand, it's quite difficult for me to explain. I might make a video showing my issue if you guys can't help me with a solution based off of the above.

Thanks.

Hi, I bought a new laptop and it has a problem i discovered. I cannot return the laptop as it already past the returning date (30days). The problem is discovered last week after i installed lots of games.

My laptop crashes at full screen mode on any games i installed. At first I blamed the game, but after installing lots of games and tried every single one of them (age of empires3, medieval2tw, COD, black and white 2, red alert3, etc.). After this, I also tried to use some 3d programs like the ones built with the latest Nvidia SDK with Direct3d 11 and still crashes. The crash (to be specific) is almost a crash to desktop (CTD) BUT, weirdly, it loads itself back and then loops again more like alt+tabing when ur in game(it's not sticky keys). However, the 3d programs like the one in NVIDIA doesn't ''alt+tabs'', it's a complete crash and the windows will then try to resolve it (which fails). It's a bit powerful laptop and here are my specs:
Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit
Core 2 duo t6600 2.20ghz
4gb ram ddr3
1gb Nvidia Geforce gt 240m
Supported by PhysX but Games requires DirectX so I installed it. Would it clash? I dont think so, coz you can turn off the physX gpu. and i tried that.
1tb HDD
Now, the things that I have tried are:
Update/install my video card driver, chipset and was going to update my BIOS (which is the latest so that's why i did not).
Installed the directX 11 (SDK), and even tried the Direct x 9.0c.

Hi,Running Windows 7 RTM x64 on both my PC at home and my workstation at work.My PC at home has a square monitor and my work PC has a widescreen monitor.I used webapps (citrix) from home to get into work environment then remoted to my workstation.Since doing that, when I am physically at the workstation (at work), I can no longer remote desktop to servers in full screen mode.  Instead, it does a smaller window with "full screen settings".  Basically the full screen remote desktop is about 3/4 size of the monitor, not 100%.Any help appreciated.-thanks

A:Remote desktop full screen mode not going full screen

Hi,-Start "Remote Desktop Connection".-Click on "Options".-Click on the "Display" tab.-On "Display configuation" settings, you can change the "Remote Desktop Connection" display by moving the slider from "Small to Large".-By moving the "Slider" all the way to large, the display settings will automatically set to "Full Screen".Thanks

Hi guys, sorry if this is the wrong section - I couldn't find a dedicated video section. Anyway:

Firstly, I'm running a bug free and competent AMD Phenom II x6 machine with an ATI 6870 and 8 gigs of ram. Hard drives have plenty of space and there aren't any hardware faults. Everything tends to run fine.

Since I installed Silverlight to use LoveFilm streaming, though, fullscreen viewing inexplicably stutters!

Solutions tried:Reinstall GPU driver (cleaning it with driver sweeper, CC cleaner etc)
Reinstall Silverlight
Uninstall windows update that installed original silverlight
Reinstalled it again
Turned off any custom video settings in the ATI Catalyst
Tried using IE, FireFox (currently use chrome)
Tried increasing amount of space Silverlight can use
Tried turning hardware acceleration on in the Silverlight options

I can't think of anything else. It doesn't matter if the film or TV show is HD or SD, full screen will stutter. My native resolution is 1920x1080, as per, and my refresh rate is 60hz. No clashes there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Note I've tried Silverlight 4 and 5, both cause the same problem.

Does this do this with any streaming video requiring silverlight at any other websites?

Resolution/aspect ratio

Sounds to me that ether you need to change the resolution in the game or your aspect ratio to match your monitors.

A:Full Screen Games no full screen on Windows Seven

Ok what is going on here is your screen is set to a smaller size in game then in windows.
If you check your windows settings you will see something like 1440x900 then look at the setting in game it may end up being 800x600. See the difference.
Also what game are you trying to play, I know that most steam games you need to enable the widescreen support in game then you can change the resolution to the correct size for your screen.

Hi,Problem: Colour red, showing as Black. My screen was working fine, until I replaced the Male to M SVGA VGA to a longer one, then the screen resolution went funny like really zoomed in, so i changed it back to the old one, and now it's kinda lost it's colour. I know it's not the monitor or connections because we've tested on another computer.I think it's just down to the computer graphics card. So could anyone please give me some advice on what the problem could be. I dont think a wire could affect the screen outcome.Ive uninstalled and reinstalled new drivers, and once the nvidia driver was uninstalled and i restarted the pc, the screen colour was still showing as greeny. The startup words which are normally white, show up as greenish. If you want pictures ask me and ill camera some.Thanks.Below is suppost to be a white background, but its displayed as greenish:

I would plug in my old cable and see if it goes back to normal. Try going to a older restore point, one before you starting changing things. Try this; right click on desktop and select personalize at the bottom of drop down. Look to the bottom of the screen and desktop back ground and pick a color.
Have you installed or updated any thing around the time of this problem?

When you install Windows 8 there is a time when the new files are being loaded when the whole screen background changes gradually throughout the whole Windows 8 colour spectrum. This can be demonstrated if you run the Clock App "Illuminating Clock" I like this a lot and would like to be able to make the start screen colours change automatically the same way - can this be done?

Is there a way to make an app like "Illuminating Clock" appear as a screen saver and to go back into the background at t a touch of a key or mouse?

You might want to check out "Decor8".

Hello,

Since thursday of last week, I have being having a perculiar problem:
I was just using my computer and playing on a online game and the computer froze and the screen turned Red. I could not do anything on it and had to reboot it. I thought this was odd, but just continued doing what I was doing. An hour or so later it happened again.

Since then it has happened countless times and my computer cannot even stay on for half an hour without this happeneing and im forced to reboot.

I was thinking it was my video card (I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600), but I only bought this four months or so ago and would it really burn out so fast?

I have virus scanned it and have removed EVERYTHING that is suspicious (I have a trojan Win32 downloader variant (Dont know what that is)).

Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do about this problem because I am just about at the end of my patience with it.

Thanks alot

A:Screen turns colours

Do you have an onboard video card that you can switch to to see if the problem replicates? If you do - take the 8600 completely out and attempt to use just the onboard video for a bit, not necessarily for gaming though as it probably will bog you down any how.

Here's a longshot idea, but it may work:Note: This procedure involves editing the Windows Registry. ALWAYS backup your registry before making any changes. You'll thank me when you're older! How to backup the Windows Registry:1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK. 3. On the File menu, click Export. 4. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save. Navigate to the following key:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MainSet the value of "FullScreen" to "no"exit the registry. Reboot.

Whenever I go on youtube or any other place that shows videos and I put it on Full Screen it stays there for about 20 sec, and then goes back to normal size. Is there anyway to fix this?

A:Full Screen problem

You could try downloading the newest version of Flash Player at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Another possibility is that your computer is not fast enough to draw these videos full-screen. It seems to require more computing power to draw Flash videos full-screen than embedded in a Web page.

To find your processor type and speed:
Right-click My Computer and click on Properties. On the right-hand side, near the middle of the column, you should see your processor type and speed listed (for XP and under). It will be near the middle of the page for Vista and Windows 7.

While watching vidio in full screen a blue screen pops up with a warning witch goes away to soon to read it . The only way to get it back is to shut down the power and restart has anyone seen this before Thanks

A:Full Screen Problem

In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error occurs. An alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message (which is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD)).

To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, right-click on My Computer and select Properties > Advanced tab. Under "Startup and Recovery", click on the "Settings" button and go to "System failure". Make sure that "Write an event to the system log" is checked and that "Automatically restart" is unchecked. Click "OK" and reboot for the changes to take effect.

This will not cure your problem but instead of crashing and restarting you will get a blue diagnostic screen with information displayed that will allow you to better trace your problem. Next time your computer crashes copy down the entire error message (including all the numbers) and post it back here.

Okay, so let me start off by saying that this is not the same issue that most experience. I have searched and searched and found not really anything like this, similar, but not the same. Basically, very randomly, my desktop PC screen will just start rapidly flashing colours for about 30 seconds, then the computer shuts down. There is no pattern or consistency. Sometimes happens 3 times in 1 day, then not for a week. It is not a program that I use or anything that triggers it, well I don't think, because I basically only use the same couple programs all the time, and this crash is speratic. I posted a video on youtube so I could put a link here so you can actually see it happening (it's 17 seconds, took 13 to get the camera going I guess!) I hope someone can help because I'm out of ideas at this point and really don't want to have to reformat this freaking computer! I've had to do that way to many times with the old one, then we finally got this just just December of last year I believe. Please help!!!!! thanks - cheers - Josh

Hello tech,
It's easter, so I realise some helpers might be away and help might be a bit slow as well as answers from me until Tuesday, lol.

I got a problem, driving me up the wall for four days now.
I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.

Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.

Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.

I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.

I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.

I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
OK what do I do now

A:I press Alt+Enter DOS screen.opens 2 full screen then go small in a couple of seconds

When I play any flash videos in full mode on my second screen, there is empty space on the bottom and top of my screen. This started happening recently and I am not sure what caused it. If I move the video over to my primary screen, I can view the video in full mode with any white borders. I am including 2 images to show the difference. On my primary screen you see that the video takes advantage of my whole screen, while on the secondary screen, there is empty space on top and bottom. A:Flash full screen leaving empty space on top and bottom of my screen

My first guess without knowing anything else is this is simply the graphic driver/card's way of dealing with the aspect ratio difference between the two monitors. It is possible this only started after a update to the flash player or graphics driver, I don't really see it as anything to be concerned about, and more than likely a great deal more trouble to solve than it's worth.

Probably hardware. Clean out dust in the system, if you have overclocked stop and revert to original settings. The link contains the most probable solution to your problem. IF the problem cannot be fixed i suggest lowering the vcore a tad tad bit.
Here are stresstests to possibly help rule a few things out. : Stresstests:
Ram : RAM - Test with Memtest86+
General hardware: Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95 ( (Three pre-set configurations are available: Small FFTs and In-place FFTs, and Blend. Small and In-place modes primarily test the FPU and the caches of the CPU, whereas the Blend mode tests everything, including the memory.)
Graphics: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark (Do the above Graphics test only with the latest drivers, and then Run it until the temperatures stop increasing; should be less then 10 minutes. If you don't see any crazy glitches or distortion on the screen, The test most likely passed. Take note if the Temperature gets too high, or you see Visual artifact - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to stop the test.)
Good luck.

Hi,

I'm having a problem with BF2 where the game will crash with a
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error, right after the logo screen. The game doesn't enter full screen mode.

The first time I saw this error was when I was playing around with BattleRecorder (BF2's own recording engine), and I tried to launch a movie in BattleLauncher. This throws the error described above and I can't run BF2 again without getting the error until the computer is RESTARTED (no logoff and back on). I searched for a way to make Battlerecorder work and I gave up. But, the problem now seems to occur when Battlefield 2 is run for a second time. For example, if I turn on the computer, run BF2, play, close BF2, and try to play again without a restart, it crashes. I tried multiple things to fix this problem, and I eventually ended up downgrading my nvidia drivers to 84.21 (i was running 84.25 beta).

I THOUGHT this fixed the problem, but I must have only tried to open the game once when I went and downgraded the drivers, because it still happens. The only things I have installed recently are xfire, and I remember that that program threw me the error whenever I clicked somewhere inside the program to launch BF2 (xfire has a feature to launch bf2 for you so you can play with a friend). I suppose I should uninstall xfire... I'll try that now.

Hi,

I have a Samsung NP370R5E operating Windows 8.

I was recently hit by the windows update issue on 11th August and ended up having to do a full reset to factory settings. See: Windows 10: Microsoft update breaks computers and forces them to keep rebooting - News - Gadgets and Tech - The Independent

Since the reset I have had a permanently dim screen. I am unable to adjust the brightness via the keyboard, the side-bar tool or the power plan settings. That is, all are set to 100% brightness but the screen is too dim, and lowering any below 100% does not lower the screen brightness any further.

Because of the reset, my computer is awaiting many many 'important' windows updates. I intend to install most of these, but, because I am wary of another problem, I am installing them slowly with frequent system back-ups.

It's possible the solution to my problem is one of these updates, but I am unable to tell them apart. The vast majority are labelled either 'security update' or just 'update for windows 8' and offer no more information on what they're for.

I found another thread about a dim screen problem here: Laptop screen brightness won't adjust

Because this person's issue was caused by a driver update issue, I decided to install the latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 8 (15.33.36.64.4226), but this didn't help.

I also thought to try older versions of the graphics driver, but these are not available from Intel. They do seem to be available from Samsung, but o... Read more

My computer has a problem with crashing while playing a video in full screen. When it crashes the screen turns black while the speakers give out a buzzing noise. Everything is unresposive the only solution is to turn it off with the power button. It happens in any full screen video online or offline and even visualizations from windows media player and iTunes, but only in full screen. I don't think it's overheating either because sometimes it takes 30 mins to crash and other times it will crash immediately when put in full screen. *I've tried setting it back to factory settings thus reinstalling windows. *All the directx features are working with no reported problem there.*
I don't think it's a memory issue in the computer, as my specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: intel core i5 3.20 GHz
Ram: 8 GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
Graphics card memory: 0.5 GB
Any other ideas?

I don't think it's a memory issue in the computer, as my specs are:

I've been trying to get my games running at full screen on my TV via HDMI, which does work - but I also want to be able to have an internet window, or Skype windows etc open on my laptop screen at the same time, to continue chatting/surfing etc. Whenever I activate full screen mode in-game, the laptop screen just shows my wallpaper, with no option of showing other windows. Is there a way to do this?

Laptop is a HP Pavilion DV6.

this is generic, u'll have to 'tap out' the game to do this anyway, normally takes about 5-15 seconds to go back into full screen,

Hi there,
I have a DOS program, once I could open the DOS screen up to full size to use it, by pressing Alt+ENTER keys, after I am finished using it, I press Alt+Enter again to revert to windows XP normal screen.

But, something has happened and now when I do it, the screen opens to full size, but, after a few seconds it automatically reverts back to the windows screen. It won't stay in the DOS screen.

I have Windows XP Pro running on a Gigabyte 2.8GB motherboard with 512 Meg of ram. My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 753s

I know there are utilities programs like DosBox out there that are designed to open a dos box, but I don't want to install it until my normal XP setup is working OK. Can someone help me please?

hello& welcome to TSF,

now this is just for starters for trouble shooting

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

-----------------------------------
also
-----------------------------------
do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

I either play Left 4 Dead or Prototype and my computer crashes with a blue screen when I make a swift mouse motion to the right. It doesn't happen all the time, some days I can play L4D for hours and it won't crash.

Some say the most common thing is Logitech Mouseware. I do have a Logitech mouse, Mx510 Performance Optical Mouse (Blue). I am running on Vista, I have visited the driver site for Logitech and found out that Vista does not require any driver for my mouse, and I never had on in the first place for this Dell XPS M1530. I just plug and use.

So ingame, it would happen when I make a sharp turn with the character to look in first person view to the other side or behind me, with lots of things happening at the same time, such as attacks or explosions, screams etc.

This is what I got as the only info that I could possibly even remember during the 10 seconds before reboot during the blue screen.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
0x0000000E(something like that)

Then when my computer started up completely, it showed this:

A:Vista Blue Screen crashes only in full screen game.

Here's a link to a brief description of the error: Troubleshooting Windows STOP Messages
There's not much info here to go on, but most BSOD's that occur during games are due to video problems, with audio problems coming behind them.

So, for starters:
- download the latest version of the video and audio drivers for your system.
- uninstall the current video and audio drivers through Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.
- install the downloaded drivers.
- reboot and wait for another BSOD :0)

If this doesn't fix it, you'll have to navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump, zip up the contents of that folder and upload it with your next post.

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 yesterday. Does it remain the case about which I have read so much that the Start screen icon box colours that Microsoft imposed in this version cannot be changed to one's own choice?
I have seven boxes under the group heading, 'OpenOffice'; three are in orange, four are in standard colour, blue in my case. There is no logic to it.

Hi! My problem is this: When my computers monitor turns off (but not yet to sleep-condition), it can be opened by just moving the mouse or pushing some buttons.BUT when I wait long enough and the monitor turns off and the computer goes to sleep, it won't start again. When I try to push buttons,  there starts to flash blue, red, white, green and black colours on the screen - in that order. And even if I try to turn of the computer or press esc or ctrl-ald-delete, nothing happens. I have to take off the power line and wait few seconds and then the computer starts normally. Does anyone now what this problem could be and how can it be fixed?

I've just bought a new laptop, Acer 5920, and am very happy with it except when I have tried to view video content online (youtube.com bbc.co.uk/iplayer etc) I have a problem whereby I can't view the video full screen. When I click the button to turn the video full screen the screen goes black, the content continues to play I believe as I can hear the audio, but cannot see the video! I've tried the thing which sprang to mind - turning it off and on again! - but beyond that I'm a bit stuck... any help gratefully received!

Log on to your computer using another profile.
(perhaps enable the guest account)
Then test Chrome.
If it works, then you know your Chrome profile is bad or some plug-in barfed.

Or you can make a new Chrome profile for the W7 account that you are currently using.

A:Problem with HD Video with Full Screen (Window Seven)

I would think the problem is from the 2.13 GHz cpu and you only have 2 GB of memory.

I only use VLC and it`s flawless so I don`t think it`s a problem with VLC.

You need to get a good 2 GB video card, that should cure the problem.

What case do you have, is it a slim or mid tower ?

Hello all,
I have been trying to find as much information as possible before posting, but I can't seem to conquer this problem on my own. Starting yesterday I began receiving popups every so often from places like noadware.net, tickle iq, etc. I cannot seem to find out what is causing this. I have a problem running full-screen applications. If I start a program that runs in full screen mode, all I can see is the cursor. If I run the same app in windowed mode, everything is ok, but once I switch it to full screen, it goes black and all that is visible is the cursor. It's strange because I move the cursor over the location of something that would cause it to change (into a different cursor), it does change, so it's detecting the apps actual working somehow. So basically, it's all there and running, just not displaying right. Anyone know how to fix this?

try adjusting ur resolution to a lower 1. like if it's 1024x768, change it to 800x600 and so on.. if not, try installing the proper driver for ur display card.

I'm trying to play some video files on my computer (ogg, mpeg, etc.). They all play in windowed mode. However, whenever I go full screen, the screen goes blank. I can still hear the sound from the video, but the screen is blank. I didn't have any problems with playing full screen video before.

This problem started happening a couple of months ago. It happens with media player classic, powerdvd, and intervideo windvd. I have no problem playing video in full screen using vlc player and windows media player. However, I really, really want to use media player classic and powerdvd for full screen video.

I even reformatted, but it didn't solve the problem. I ran a hardware diagnostic, and everything passed. I'm frustrated and out of ideas.

I'm running a Thinkpad T42, Windows XP Professional SP2, ATI Radeon 9600 (w/ 64 memory), and 512 ram.

Suggestions? Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

I went through all the menus in WMP and couldn't find anything to get rid of the menu bar below. I would try to get rid of the bar by putting it on full screen and then click on the video. But nothing happens.

Also, another question....

Under Now Playing, how can I get the top menu bar (File/Edit/View, etc.)?

Everything was fine in WMP 11. Don't know what Microsoft changed to cause this in WMP 12.

off of that information, it says your monitor is a generic plug and play monitor with an analog connection (VGA), when you start a game, can you see anything in the taskbar at the bottom or does nothing start at all?
