DVD stopped playing fixed it once it's back again

Q: DVD stopped playing fixed it once it's back again

I've got a HP Pavilion DV6707 DVD was working fine when I upgraded it to win 7 then all of a sudden it quit. Looking for a solution I found someone who mentioned they loaded magic ISO, so I loaded the program and DVD worked fine for about a month or so and now I can't get it working. I've removed Magic ISO and reinstalled and no go. I've tried the microsoft mr fixit and no luck and I've also looked in the registry for upper filter fix and I do not see that listed in the reg any suggestions would be great. As if right now I've removed the Magic software and I don't even see a DVD player in device mgr or under computer.

Thanks in advance!

Have and XP home SP3 system with kaspersky internet security 2011 that alerted to a major infection, during the process of removal and restart, the system locked up and would not boot.
I used a kaspersky rescue disk 10 to boot, it found and fixed the booting issue(s).

After being able to restart i ran rkill and the MBAM and found some other issue, ran SAS and found some issue as well. tdsskiller detected nothing.
that said all of those things were done in normal mode, not safe mode.

Ran SFC /scannow to make sure system files weren't corrupted, that took a bit of time.

Things seem to be working ok, but the system is still a bit laggy, still concerned there may be some residual infection or other issue to fix.
What should i do?
Thanks

side note: Kaspersky seem to be pretty resource hungry, any thoughts on that?

does anyone know what I'm referring to and can link me to the fix?

Thanks1

Hi All,

I had "spooler subsystem app stopped working..." and found solution that may help you to fix your case.

I don't know some how vista turn off LDP port after installing new printer driver and leaves only Internet client port only. That why the printer spooler service failed to start. Solution is:

1. Go to Programs and Features in Control panel > click Turn Windows features on or off
2. click + sign of Print services
3. Select LPD and LPR. You should remove Internet Printing Client. > restart your PC to ensure there is no error of spooler service.

4. Add your printer driver again.

It worked for me. Let try.

Hi,
i had a few months without BDOS. But now they are back. I had some in January (about 4 the whole month). But today i had 4-5. I even had a pink one, which i have never seen before. I had one while booting and the last one was a few minutes ago. I recognized, that the Bluescreen was in bad resolution like only VGA mode or something. I need your help again
Its also mentionable that i cant udate my nvidea driver using the nvidea center. So i reinstalled the driver manually last month or so. But its up to date....
Another lue perhaps: Some Bluescreens didnt create a minidump...

I realy have no idea and would be very thankful if someone could help me. Thanks alot!!!!

It seems Gigabyte doesn't provide support for your motherboard, but there are some drivers that need updating like the nvidia audio and Gigabyte GBB36x Controller drivers.

Please update Driver Reference Table - t_mouse.sys

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

Hi, a month ago I've been receiving a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" and thought it was an error caused by an emulation tool and virtual drive I installed. So I proceeded to uninstall them and the error went away however just today it came back with the so-called "dreaded blue screen error message" (read the quote from another site) smile.gif and I'm not quite sure what caused it?

Can I request for help in this matter? Thanks.

PS: I've forgot where to look for the minidump file where the said note of the error message was placed by windows. Showing me where it can be found would be greatly appreciated. Also, I've already followed the steps in Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide before starting a new topic. Hope this is the correct forum. smile.gif

Searching on google showed me to take AC plug off when computer is off, I have a laptop and took the power off, and the battery, and let it sit for about 30 minutes. It worked the first time. However, today morning after using it for a while it happened again. I tried the same thing and fixed it. But at evening it happened again. Is there a way to fix this?

OK, I seem to be having the same issue that many others have had in the past, described here:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/windows-7-wont-print-through-photo-viewer-and/35775d90-4e4c-4d86-ad46-b4576ca85255
This literally started out of nowhere. I would open images in Windows Photo Viewer and print them without any issue. Then, out of nowhere my images stopped printing.
The photo preview loads just fine. I can select the printer just fine. But when I send it to print, the printer starts up and spools the paper through and EVERYTHING about it says it is printing the image just fine. The problem is: not a single drop of ink makes it onto the page. The page is literally blank.
I can print from other programs just fine. The printer is not the issue.
Reading this thread:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/windows-7-wont-print-through-photo-viewer-and/35775d90-4e4c-4d86-ad46-b4576ca85255

It seems there may be issues with the display profiles. I have tried several of the solutions to no avail. At one point I did a system restore and somehow miraculously got it to work again but then something happened once more and the problem came back. I tried to go back to system restore, but out of nowhere-- recent system restore points had been deleted and the latest one was over 3 years old. I am not going to system restore to 3 years back just to solve this one minor problem.

Ok i'm new here and i have a problem. The ventilator at the back one day just stopped spinning and i dont know what to do if i tried to play games the computer shutdowns and restarts (sometimes) so any tips how to make it work again ?

A:Ventilator on the back stopped

Case fans can die
The usual occurance is internal dust, therefore removing all internal dust can possibly help
In most cases it's a matter of replacing the fan

There is also another fan, close to where the power cord plugs in
This is actually the PowerSupply fan. Once this one dies, users tend to purchase another PowerSupply (as PowerSupplies are sealed units, and not meant to be opened)

You will need to work out if it's the case fan, or the PowerSupply fan, and then have it replaced

I have a new PC, the ones i used to burn off my old one would play on any DVD player I had. But when i burn using my New PC it will only play on a computer, I tried it on my friends xbox 360 and it played.
So i was thinking my TV-DVD player is the problem, but then it still plays the old things that i've burned.
I use convertxtodvd to burn the mkv files i have on my computer, I use Nero Recode 2 to copy existing DVD's into copy's.
They all work on the xbox and my PC.

It's not that i desperately need my TV-DVD player to play these things, but if i'm building a DVD collection, i want to know it will play on any DVD player that supports copies. Otherwise I end up with half a collection that will will only play on certain devices and not others that are supposed to support copies.

When I troubleshoot it tells me to uninstall and then Add New Hardware. I've tried this several times but each time I get this message:

I saw an old thread in which someone was able to fix a similar problem by creating a text file to fix the CD Registry. Might this work for me?

I was going through unnecessary files on my computer, and I deleted some Apple related files that I thought I didn't need. Quicktime stopped working, so I had to reinstall it. Since I'm using Windows XP the newest version won't work, so I had to download an older version. I'm not sure what version I had before I messed it up, I think it was 7.3.0. So I downloaded that, and now it won't play files smoothly that it had played smoothly before I uninstalled it. My settings are the same as far as I can tell.

Edit: it's not just Instagram, it's also Vine. I don't spend much time on social feeds, so it's challenging to track which sites seem to be most affected by this problem, which only manifested within the last month. Hi All

I was running MP9 and a few days ago it refused to play avi's recorded by my digital camera. It will play avi's fromother sources, DVD's etc but not my camera avi's. It playe dthem perfectly until a few days ago.

Same with PowerDVD. It will play everything, no problem, except for these few avi's.

I downloaded and ran GSpot over the suspect avi's to see if there was a codec problem but they all rendered OK and GSpot said they should play OK with the existing setup. Finally I uninstalled MP9 and installed MP10 but there is no change.

The error message I get on MP is "Unknown Error" with a code. Not surprisingly M'soft don't provide much assistance. I see from this and other forums that MP suddenly refusing to play avi's isn't at all uncommon. Can someone please offer suggestions on how/why and how I go about fixing this.

Thanks very much.

A:Media Player stopped playing some AVI's

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the camera software. A codec may have been installed by that installation. Anything unusual in the right-click properties of those files?

A general-purpose codec that will play most avi's is the DirectShow ffdshow:

A:Playing CD stopped working after XP SP2 upgrade

You didn't open your case at all did yoU?

I know lots of cd-roms come with a cable that connects to the sound card for direct audio, but if you didn't open your case or move it significantly this shouldn't be your problem.

Try going into your device manager and seeing if the cd-rom is still installed correctly. Perhaps SP2 messed it up (if so reinstall the driver)

Hello
I am new here & need help with this one. A couple of days ago the sound in my pc failed. It was working fine before that. I tried the usual, installing the sound driver again but it did not work.

Now I can see the driver icon in the system tray & occasionally the volume control icon as well but when I click it, a message is displayed that there are no active mixers available. Also I use AIMP2 as my music player & it has been displaying this message "cannot initialize sound engine". My speakers work fine.

I am not sure but I think the problem is with the sound card. Any ideas??? PLEASE HELP .

Btw my sound card is built into the motherboard & the motherboard is about 4-5 yrs old. Here are the specs:

And it's not just the laptop speakers - it doesn't work when I put headphones in either.

I opened up audacity and as it was loading, all my sound that was playing cut out. I system restored my laptop and it was fixed, and thought it crashing with audacity was just a coincedence, so I reopened audacity. The sound stopped working again. I uninstalled audacity, that didn't work, so system restored it again but this time that didn't work either. I tried an even earlier date but it still didn't work.

Help please?
Thanks x

p.s. i'm not really technical so I apoligize in advance, ty.

Hi Sarahbbb!

What's the model of your laptop? (It's usually on a sticker on the bottom side, something like "Dell Dimension L6203")

I have a soundblaster live soundcard. Periodically, the sound would stop in the middle of playing. I figured out that the card was loose so screwed the card in and the sound returned. But then stopped again. I tried putting the sound card in a different slot but still no sound. Any suggestions?

I have a Lite-On SOHW 1673S DVD/RW. At first it played the DVD with only video but no sound. Now there is no video and no sound. I've tried more than one DVD. The program "Power DVD" came with the drive. Both Windows Media Player 11 and Power DVD close after a few seconds after executing the "play in" command. However it recognizes data and musics CD's with sound. I do not have a secondary PC to test this optical drive on.
Any suggestions besides buying a new optical drive?
Thanks!

A:DVD/RW not playing back DVD's

It may be your DVD Decoder. Try using the one that your video card manufacturer gives you. That probably your best bet. If you are using integrated video ( the moniter plugs into your I\O panel instead of a PCI, AGP or PCI-X slot) then try using the one provided by your motherboard manufacturer.

Yesterday, out of absolutely nowhere, the clicking buttons on the bottom-left and bottom-right of my trackpad stopped working. I'd press down on them, but it almost felt like there was a physical blockage > they wouldn't click at all even if I pressed down hard. It was really troubling, since it meant that I'd always have to use an external mouse. (My laptop had fallen off the bed the previous night, so I figured that it was a result of that, even though it wasn't a bad fall and was cushioned by the carpet). Today, however, everything is back to normal. Both corners of the trackpad click easily and crisply, just as they had before. My question, though, is what the heck happened? Is this going to be a recurring problem? It's almost as though something had 'locked' the trackpad such that the corners wouldn't allow themselves to be clicked (note that the touch-sensitive scrolling functionality wasn't affected, just the clicking.) Seemed like a serious hardware problem, but now it seems back to normal (for the time being at least). I just want to know what happened, since it's very weird and unlike anything that I've seen before.

Every time I try to play music in Windows Media Player no sound comes out of my speakers. I'm not sure if its just Media Player, but I'm fairly sure it's not just Media Player.

When this first started, simply turning the volume up a notch made sound come out. But the sound would stop after a minute or so. Also, it has been making my computer freeze up frequently. I've tried playing music on websites like playlist.com and my computer locks up.

This just started happening today. I looked for hardware conflicts and found none. The speakers work fine. I believe it must be some sort of Malware.

Found several similar reports over this and MS's Answers forums with no final resolution/fix to problem. Worse they are dated several years ago and nothing current.

I feel I need to emphasize one-time that this problem only concerns the Startup system sound that plays right after warm or cold boots when the system first arrives at the desktop and _only_ that sound. All other system and program sounds work okay.

Up to 1 or 2 months ago for a couple years now the Startup sound has been playing just fine--then I all of a sudden realized it was no longer playing at all. All other system and program sounds/audio play fine.

1. SFC finds nothing needing fixing.
2. Startup sound check box in Sounds tab is and has always been checked though I do not recall when MS made this a security issue protecting it.
3. Talked to nVIDIA and learned nothing new.
4. Talked to Crucial and learned nothing new.
5. Talked to MS and learned nothing new. They are unaware of problem...even though for some it is a couple years old. MS's best recommendation though, which I might still try at some point because "what could possibly go wrong?" is to run an In-Place Upgrade on Windows 7 which supposedly will restore the OS leaving my programs/data and some customizations(?) in tact.
6. Actual Startup sound wave file apparently resides inside a .dll which iirc is threaded here in sevenforums.

I've not long had Vista (Home Premium) and the windows media player that came with it used to play the .ts files that I'd exported from my digibox hard drive. Then - for apparently no reason - Media Player decided that it was no longer going to open the files, not even the ones that it had opened previously. It came up with the cood1199 error, but I don't understand why it's stopped playing them as it used to. It's infuriating. I don't want to have to download another program to play them when Media Player should - as it *did* - play them. Is there anything that I can do to get it to play what it used to play?

Have you tried a system restore back to when you know this worked or is this to far in the past? Have you tried to play the files with something like Realplayer. I know that you want to use WMP long term but this would confirm that it is a WMP issue.

Also found this link if it helps.

About four days ago as of the time of writing this my computer stopped playing sound after a restart with updates installed. That is actually not quite true. The volume mixer shows that it is playing sound, but no actual sound comes out of whatever device I plug in. Speakers don't work, headphones don't work. I know the devices themselves work as I have plugged them into other computers and they worked there, but on this specific computer no such luck. It is not muted. The drivers show that they are working properly. I've reinstalled the drivers anyway. I've set the default device to that of my speakers. I have updated everything from BIOS to Chipset.

After that I tried searching for some clue or advice on the internet to no avail. Then I tried the windows troubleshooter and Microsoft fixit tool. Neither could find anything wrong.

The computer came new out of the box with two sound card drivers installed. Which are IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and AMD High Definition Audio Device. Which are both under Sound, Video and game controllers in the device manager. Under Audio inputs and outputs it shows the following: Digitial Output (S/PDIF) (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC), Speakers/Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC ), and Stereo Mix (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). It is the speakers/headphones I want to use as that is my default device. When I click on those the driver is listed as Audio Endpoint and that the device is working properly.

A:Computer stopped playing sound after update

First thing, check the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device. If it has changed to some other device that could be the problem.

Your PC sound "card" (actually a chip on the motherboard) is the IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The AMD High Def is the audio for HDMI. Which is another issue, if you have an HDMI cable plugged in, Windows will automatically change the default audio playback device to the HDMI.

If the playback device is set properly to the "Speakers", try resetting the sound by uninstalling the IDT in the Device Manager (DO NOT also uninstall the drivers). Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will reinstall the sound. If there were some Windows corruption with the sound this will fix it.

Suddenly I can no longer watch movies. Games play, cds play, audio fine. But I put in a movie and it's like there's no disc here. We've watched movies on it for over a year, so I checked multiple movies that once worked. I've followed the troubleshooting, tried to update driver. The wizard could find no better driver than what is already being used. I DO NOT get an error message. I just don't get anything to show up either under My Computer or in Media Center or Media player. This stumps me. I read somewhere "Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 (KB925398)" was a problem but I even went to add/remove programs and couldn't find that particular update, so I couldn't uninstall that. I have a problem playing a video on a particular site, and the tech support hasn't been much help on there so I thought maybe someone else might know.

I am able to watch videos mostly anywhere, but on this one particular site I can't figure out why. On their FAQ they mention the videos are protected by DRM windows and can't playback on Mac or Linux (I have 64 bit Vista). The requirements basically ask for WMP 9+ (I have 11), a good internet connection (which I have), and a pretty basic computer. My old one was significantly worse and it was able to watch the videos just fine.

I'm using IE8 to try and view the site as they recommend using IE, and I remember the website being very picky when it comes to which browser works with it and which doesn't. So I'm convinced it must be a browser-related issue that I can't figure out. Any suggestions?

I hope it's okay to post the link, this is the site I am having problems with: www.videosport.com

Thanks.

Hi,

A:Windows Explorer has stopped working when playing movie DVD

Good Evening Folks:

I am having a problem with Windows Explorer and WMP11. I have the original King Kong movie that I downloaded and burned over a year ago. Every so often I drag it out just for the enjoyment of watching it again. This time, however, when I attempt to play it I get a message telling me that WMP11 has stopped working. If I try to open the files on the disk the message tells me that Windows Explorer has stopped working and will have to restart.
When I first started to dig into this problem I was because I was getting a message telling me that the DEP had stopped working. That has been cured by disabling DEP, but now it is Windows Explorer that stops working. There are also a few other glitches that have appeared such as a language bar that appears on the screen whenever the UAC window opens and an internet connection that will not run in protected mode even though that function is enabled. I have scoured the net and have seen a number of people who associate this problem with the installation of Vista SP2? If this is the case I will dump SP2 even if it means reinstalling the O/S.
I'm running a 32 bit Vista Home Premium O/S.
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I've had this problem since like 2 years and i havent been able to solve it, yes reinstalled OS more than 15 times, DDU drivers, reinstalled drivers, tried beta drivers, tried old driver, cleaned up the dust inside laptop, windowed, fullscreen game, disabled some services, disabled TDR on registry, delay TDR on registry (it just makes windows freeze for the time i put on the registry, example TdrDelay = 10 sec, windows freezes for 10 when TDR happens in dota), reduce dota 2 graphic settings, ccleaner, advanced systemcare, SFC/SCANNOW , verified files, (There was this time where i was messing with my pc trying to fix this issue where i thought ive fixed it because whenever the TDR happened dota 2 would freeze but it would run again like nothhing happened and i could still play but somehow then it didnt last long)

installed new version of dota 2 called reborn and for some reason it didnt crash for some 2 months and now whenever i play this new one it crashes the whole windows and i need to restart PC

There was a BSOD too where i disabled google chrome hardware acceleration or something like that and when i got to a page like dailymotion my computer froze and i had to restart.

The couple of thing i havent tried is Thermal paste because my laptop is very hard to open GPU wise. but i doubt thats the problem because the BSOD from dota started when i recently bought the Laptop like after 1 - 2 weeks

(Some stuff on the ZIP are in spanish, im from mexico)

Please use the tool again, the zip file doesn't have any dump files.
Also, in your windows partition go to the folder windows. There you can find a folder called minidumps, it is the folder where the dump files are saved. Check if there are any dump files in that folder.

So I get TDR and BSOD whenever I play a graphically intensive game. Doesn't have to be much, though. I tried to play Mafia 2 and I got TDR. The same with Dishonored, CS:GO, and a whole mess of other games.
I've already set the PhysX to my graphics card rather than auto, so if you were going to say that, don't.

Note: My GTX 660 is by OC'd by Gigabyte, thought I'd point that out.

A:BSOD/TDR playing Far Cry 3, display driver stopped working.

Erm, this doesn't make sense. You have a Geforce card, so why do I see ATI drivers also loaded? You may wanna do some cleanup of your drivers to ensure you don't have any conflicts. A good way to see loaded drivers is using Autoruns. Don't use it to remove drivers, but to check a list of those intended to load at Windows startup. Also good is to check Programs & Features on control panel and uninstall unnecessary items.

Otherwise, I don't have good data on this. One of the 3 crashdumps present did report that the TDR timeout was caused by insufficient resources to complete a DirectX API call, but I can't ascertain how this happened from just a minidump. Try running Driver Verifier and provide us new crashdumps.

EDIT: I just noticed the ATI crash was from back in Oct, with two other crashdumps from Nov and December. Have you changed your video card recently? I assume you were also getting timeouts from the previous card?

Try VLC. I know you can change the aspect ratio of the video file in VLC. You can then re-encode the video correctly so that it will play back properly in WMP

Hello all - first post newb here who appreciates any and all advice.

My wmp is playing songs from a certain cd just fine.... except for it isn't playing all the tracks (or "channels" if you will,) to some of the songs with lots of parts to them. I've played some other cd's through it and haven't noticed any problems. I've got the latest version (whatever that is) of wmp and have a chord from the back of my computer going to a home stereo, and have checked the connections and everythings fine that way.

Any clues?

Windows xp pro - no special sound or other hardware.

A:Solved: wmp not playing back both channels

Ok - I figured something out. I have a single outlet in the rear of the computer, which goes to a regular guitar cable which goes into a splitter which goes into the left and right inputs in the back of my stereo. I thought about only getting one channel and decided to check the other cd's to see if they were not only 1: playing both channels, but 2: playing them through both speakers... yes on 1, no on 2. So I unplugged the one working and plugged it into the other speaker, and viola! We have sound. Next I switched the inputs and this time the other worked and not the original one.... so it would appear the splitter is to blame, and potentially that side of the splitter has a short or something in it. That's what I'm going with. Sorry for the silly question, I guess I just had to do some more head scratching.

My audio (when playing CDs or MP3's on the computer) seems to be stuttering and skipping. I've googled this and found all sorts of results regarding overclocking or PCI Latency Timers and I have NO IDEA what these things mean or how to deal with them.

I've removed all AdWare and scanned for viruses - nothing. I've defragged the hard drive. I've checked on the sound card driver - that seems to be up to date (or at least the automatic driver search couldn't find anything better).

Any advice? I use this system for audio and video editing so it's a pretty vital issue.

Like for example, the universal logo comes up, I can't see the top and bottom portion of the earth, nor the letter "U" or "L". I think I messed it up when I tried playing a movie simulatenously on two different media players. I installed Media Player again but no such luck. I also reinstalled xvid, divx.

Hi, I have set up my surround sound 5.1 speakers recently.
I went into the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and set it to use "5.1 surround sound",
but as I try to play music, sound only comes through the front speakers... I have tried looking through all sorts of settings, and cant find what I could have set wrong...

I have tested the rear speakers in the sound manager, and it plays sound through the rear speakers in the tests, but Itunes, and internet explorer do not play sound through the rear speakers...

I have attached screenshots from settings I have set up.

I am running windows 7 64-bit OS, and the sound device is a PCI Realtek HD Audio Card.
Addional info: If I change the defult device in the second screenshot to use Realtek Digital output, no sound comes out at all.

Please help. I have used microsoft security essentials and malware removal and it hasn't done anything. Both have shown that they have found a trojan and say they have removed it but once I turn my computer on after a few minutes of being on the ads will start. My computer is slow and all of this started sunday. I tried for hours yesterday following microsoft security essentials directions which said to download the progam to a flash drive and make it run off of it and that it would remove the problem but it hasn't. People always said that Firefox was the best browser compared to IE but since installing Firefox, I have found nothing but problems with it especially after a new update.

Firefox won't save any of my new bookmarks anymore.

Firefox's back or forward button doesn't function for me anymore so I'm stuck with using backspace to go backwards.

Should I just uninstall and reinstall?

Would my bookmarks still be saved and installed after reinstalling?

Also, java flash has never worked for me on Firefox.

I've encountered a mysterious problem that has drastically affected my enjoyment of my computer. Please help if you can.

Starting yesterday, I noticed that most video files (about 90%) stopped playing correctly on my computer. This occurs whether the video is streaming from an internet source or played directly from a file on my hard drive.

The affected files are .avi, mpeg, mpg, wmv, asf

When played the files are slow and choppy and the sound is full of pops and cracks. Video files without sound and audio files seem unaffected.

This occurs when files are played through Windows Media Player (10) or RealPlayer (v.10). Quicktime Player appears to be unaffected. The same file will play fine if it has an extention QT can handle.

The files themselves have not been corrupted. I was able to prove this because I can play the very same files remotely with the same programs (WMP10 and RP10) from a second computer on my Home Network.
Also, files streamed from the internet are affected as well. For example if I try to watch a news video or a moive trailer the sound is significantly degraded when played through WMP or RealPlayer.

So, something has changed with my windows setup that is affecting the way the computer handles these files.

I had a virus issue that I dealt with by running many spyware and virus programs yesterday. I don't think it's related but I can't help but wonder

I've been trying to chase this issue for quite some time now. Randomly I experience a crash to desktop when playing Battlefield 2. Doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason, just bam!

The only thing I can spot in the logs is one in system saying: (Happens Everytime)

There is also one that will show in the app log saying: (Happens once in awhile)

It worked. However after activating the op. sistem it no longer plays the start up sound (any idea ?).
Another thing I have no idea is why Microsoft supressed the log off sound.
Who had the brilliant idea to discontinue the log off sound ?
There should be a tweak to bring it back.

This has happened for about the 10th time now and I can't find answers. I live in Kirkland, WA, across Lake Washington from Seattle, so I love pretty close to the TV broadcast towers. I have line of sight to them actually. I have an ATSC/NTSC TV tuner, currently operating in ATSC mode obviously, since analog isn't an option anymore.

On channel 1131 I record several programs, the main ones being family guy and two and a half men.

This channel for some reason has full signal sometimes and really flaky signal at other times.

Today I tried to play back an episode of two and a half men and it keeps saying Unsupported File Type when I try to play it back! All the information for when it was recorded, what episode was recorded and on what channel is all there, but the thumbnail is missing. This has happened too many times and any solutions would be much appreciated. It's driving me insane because it's the only way I have of receiving decent TV.

My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB sabre, distributed by HP

My tv tuner is a ViXS PureTV-U 48B0 NTSC/ATSC/FM combo. It's a PCI Express x1 card and it came installed on my HP pavilion elite m9000t

A:Media Center Recordings not playing back!

And also a note, I have checked my IRQ settings to make sure GFX card and tv card aren't conflicting.

I went into the "BIOS" and loaded optimized defaults which runs the board at 3.8GHz. The computer is in a room which is airconditioned at a constant 73F.

I have attached all of the requisite files. Including my system specs.
Would you please help me with this problem.

Hi Alex and welcome
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has tru... Read more

I ran updates on 4/16 on both this desktop and a laptop. The laptop (Windows 7 Pro) had many more updates but is working fine. The desktop (W7 Home Premium) is having two main issues. I did not set a restore point but I wanted to ask the pros because it has been driving me nuts.

Youtube and Netflix will not play.
At first I thought it was firefox but it is in IE as well. I went through numerous steps in Firefox to try to get it work. I even tried installing the 64 bit version which did not fix it. (Currently it is uninstalled). Both players will load the video, it is buffering but only the first frames shows. If I try to skip ahead normally it locks up. If I go to you tube in IE right now, it will just freeze, possibly because I've uninstalled all flash now. But the issue before was the same, the video loads just not advance the frame. I did not do additional troubleshooting in IE as I haven't used it in years just was testing.

Next some programs will not load even though they execute. This does not coincide exactly with the updates as it started happening on the 19th.

For example, Steam will execute (from start menu) but it will not launch.
Also, my favorite game-- a short cut on the desktop-- will not launch. It will also not launch from the source on C:. It will flash a second of it's launcher and usually a screen immediately loads but it also just sits in the Processes screen. I tried launching as admin and disabling antivirus. Hi all,
I bought a new digital camera and when I play back video clips with media player it is very slow. It plays back fine in the camera but after I download them and play them back it really slows up and plays chunky like when you download from a website. The camera records 60 frames a second.
Is there any way to speed things up with media player or change the settings or something? I have media player 9. I email a clip to a friend and he said it played fine on his computer.
Any suggestions?

Hi there

If you are lucky enough to have FAST unlimited broadband you might catch some of the new 2160p content - but you will need 106GB or so PER 50 - 60 Min episode. !!!!

Once you've downloaded it however is there any software around that can handle it yet. !!!!!

VLC will eventually do it but not now (at least it handles X265 format though). With VLC I just get Black / grey screen. Audio works and "Down rez" to 1080p works but what's the point of doing that when I can catch the 1080p stuff - about 450 - 650 MB with X265 codec anyway. However down rezzing it does actually work !!

I've got a proper large ultra 4K HD monitor so with the right software it should easily play 2160p stuff natively.

Bottleneck is probably combo of your CPU, [what video?] and motherboard chipset. [southbridge/northbridge which effects it all]

I'd try upgrading the chipset drivers and BIOS of your motherboard, found on your motherboard's web site, FIRST.

That CPU is a bit low for gaming, LoL is probably well optimized code and lower requirements as a result.

Not knowing all your hardware.... Fill in the specs, you can run msinfo32.exe from Start | search box and get the info there. Video card will be listed under Components | Display.

Guessing without it, that you could use a video card and CPU upgrade, that CPU is circa 4Q/'07 so it has seen better days, whole system replacement is probably in order, to catch up to 2013 gaming.

Looking on newegg just for an idea, this is the only LGA775 slot CPU (same slot type as a E4600) even available, and it's a refurb: (plus no guarantee your motherboard supports it, without looking it up.)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...irtualParent=1

If your motherboard even has a PCI Express x16 slot, what version is it, 1.0/1.1/2.0? will likely limit a video card choice, also, let alone the PSU in it.

Yahoo website stopped opening in my Linux Fedora 14 Laptop about ten days back

Used nmap like this about one day before that:

How to find out if Yahoo has blocked my machine as an attacker ?
Browser (SeaMonkey) says "Connected to in.yahoo.com" and then quickly goes to "Waiting for in.yahoo.com...".
After a few seconds even that message goes away from the browser status bar and the window remains blank.

It is a difficult situation as I depend a lot on yahoo email. Have used yahoo as my main email for over 15 years and never had such problems.

There are lots of solutions for this problem, very few of them work.

I would start by un-installing the video driver and re-installing the latest driver, you will be able to get this from the laptop manufacturers site.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I have attempted updating graphics driver (using the 310.64 nvidia beta one, after the latest didn't solve it), updated windows to latest version, and followed advices given on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946 with no effect.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? It has occured to me while playing movies in SMPlayer, as well as in streaming online media.

Typically the cause of a video driver glitch which can resolved by upgrading or downgrading the video drivers. I've also seen it caused by a specific app. In which case, updating the app or using a different app resolves the problem.

Hello,

Lately I've been suffering from crashes. When playing games like PayDay 2 and League of Legends. The game suddenly crashes and a bunch of running programs show "... Has stopped working". It doesn't crash into a BSOD but the programs won't start again. Except for 1 time I actually got a BSOD(Dump attached), I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the other crashes, but it did occur during playing PayDay 2.

When the crashes started occurring I bought a new hard drive(Needed more space) and installed a clean installation of Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. This didn't work so I ran MemTest86+ 5+5 passes and no errors. I also tried testing my GPU's one by one, also no result.

I tried using Verifier but the crashes don't result into a BSOD. So haven't got any useful feedback on that part.

I've also tried the repair-install guide, but when clicking upgrade it says I've already got a equal or higher version of windows installed.

I'm kind of clueless on what to do now.

Thanks in advance,

Gday! First of all, thanks for providing a forum like this. Secondly, sorry for anything I don't describe in this post that you'd like to know- just ask me and I'll provide any details. I've included a Direct X Diagnostic .txt, though, which I hope will be useful.)

So, in brief, here's the problem- Video playback simply doesn't work as it should. More often than not, it won't work at all. Though, sometimes, it will. Sorry for the vagueness, but I'll try to give a better summary here:
I have Windows Media Player 10 installed, but I've had the same problem on all other versions I've used- I think they may date back as far as version 6 or 7.

On Windows Media Player, as well as winamp:
*Video files saved on my computer, generally, do NOT play. I'm not entirely sure which formats will play on Windows Media Player, and likewise for WinAmp, but I'm fairly sure that the formats that play on both system correlate.
*I wish I could describe this better, but video files embedded on websites which are opened with Windows Media Player will SOMETIMES stream perfectly, SOMETIMES give audio but no visual whatsoever, and do nothing at all.
*DVDs, however, will play just as they are intended.

On WINDVD 6 (recently uninstalled),
*Almost all file formats of videos would play.
*However, it was uninstalled because it was the crappy demo version that came with the computer, in which you couldn't use ANY functions beyond pause and p... Read more

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

I need some help on how to how to backup your personal folder( the folder in windows which has sub folders of your videos, documents, music, downloads etc) multiple times without having to a complete backup each time. I just want to backup the new files that I have been added.

I used Cobian Backup 10 for my backup. On my very first backup, I choose the "full" backup type. (I have no idea why I needed to choose the "full" backup type since I only backed up my personal folder and not the entire (C hard drive). I then chose my seagate external hard drive as the destination source.

The first folder(the one which is scribbled in black for privacy reasons) is the backed up folder in the external hard drive. Inside the folder has all the sub folders (videos, music, documents etc).

Flash forward four months later and I have now created new files (documents, downloaded music and videos etc) during that time. I now want to backup my personal folder again, but I do not want to do a complete backup of the folder, just the new files and folders since it it will be very time consuming to do a complete backup. So I used the "incremental" back up type for the nuew added files. However, when I back up my personal folder using incremental, it creates a folder, and in that folder has the newly added files.( I used the blacked out folder as the destination for the incremental back up)
The red folder is the sub folder inside the black folder(above) with th... Read more

My screen on this laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520, Windows 10, 4gb max memory) had gone virtually dark, in the right light you could faintly see the screen being active. Without the availability of the screen, I utilized the external monitor output AND the SVGA option output to 2 different flat screen TV's which both options worked for months! Then that stopped, yet you can see and hear the hard drive working in reaction to my interactivity?. I promptly replaced the graphics card! THAT DID NOTHING FOR NATIVE OR EXTERNAL VIDEO OUTPUT!!! Three years ago I replaced the mainboard which afterwards worked awesomely, now I'm stumped. I truly love this little machine, what am I overlooking?! Can someone shed some light on this scenario?! Thanks, Craig

I have just acquired a R500.
When typing, the cursor often skips back a line or back several spaces.
It is an involuntary yip, and I do not think it is a human keyboard error.

How can I stop this? Any advice?

Regards, Ron

Hi

Disable the touchpad while typing. You can do that by pressing the Fn + F9 key combination.
I had the same problem and it was caused by touching the touchpad surface while typing?.

Hi,

I've been on Window's 7 Ultimate 7 64bit for the past three months. Everything have been working smoothly. I've been having the sound perfectly until I recently wanted to listen to a youtube clip and there is no sound. It says "No Audio Output Device Installed".

I have tried various options; such as, looking on the internet and haven't had any luck. I've tried scanning my pc, and this, it won't find the available option to help me re install it back and the pc keeps throwing error messages regarding that it's unable to find the solution to install it and I haven't made any recent changes.

Please Help.
