Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

I bought a Gateway DX4200-09 Desktop on Ebay Apr 18, 2014 from a third-party seller. I've emailed the seller, but no response yet.

My copy of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is suddenly not genuine. Windows support couldn't help without the 25-digit product key. Gateway support won't help because my product is out of warranty.

Can you help? Thanks in advance.

A:Suddenly, Windows 7 is not genuine

The installed Product Key is one that is ONLY valid on machines pre-installed with Windows 7 by the manufacturer.
Your machine was manufactured a year before windows 7 was released, and can NOT support such a Key.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key - or demand a refund from the vendor. (or both!)

Okay. I built this PC myself. It was built around 5 months ago. I installed Windows 7, and it said it was perfectly genuine and everything. I bought this on eBay from a person with 99% Positive feedback and with 2300 stars, so I'm sure it isn't pirated. Now randomly I have a black wallpaper and in the bottom right corner it says Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine. I've scanned the computer fully for viruses with AVG and Malware with Malwarebytes, and found no problems. I also have a report here.

A:Windows 7 Suddenly Not Genuine?!

The "00359-233" in the Windows Product ID indicates your copy of Windows is a not-for-resale MSDN version. Whoever sold it to you did so illegally, so you need to contact the seller and demand a refund. I would not accept a replacement key which too may be illegal.

I turned my PC which had a valid working Windows XP operating system and suddenly it said it wasn't genuine. Got a black screen with a logo on the right bottom stating that I may have been a victim of software counterfeiting and that my copy was not genuine. I downloaded "removewga"program I found online and it removed the logo on the desktop but I cannot get Microsoft Security Essentials to validate, resolve nor function properly.

I downloaded the WGDiag program and here is what is says. Please assist!!! (BTW will a System Restore to a earlier or previous date work?)

Hi,

On March 1, 2010 I purchased a key for Windows 7 Home 64. Built the computer, jumped through all the hoops and have received all the updates Windows has had for it. Got the last update last night. No problems. This afternoon, my wallpaper went black and in the corner of my screen it says "This copy of Windows is not genuine".
I went to the site it sent me to to verify the validity. It had me download the Windows Activation Update.exe. Ran that and it said that they key was not genuine and that the key had been blocked. When it got to the page that said to enter a Windows key, there was no place to put said key, but it did give me an offer to purchase it for $109.
I am trying to figure out if the problem is Windows and the key really isn't valid, or if I have acquired a virus. Any help would be appreciated. Below is my HijackThis log.

I have an older workstation, bought with Vista, and upgraded to Win7 Ultimate. Upgrade was bought via the MS store several years ago (I occasionally get coupons from work to buy stuff). I don't use this box all that much but the other day I went to patch it and it told me that my copy wasn't genuine. The error I get after having it try to is that some files are damaged or missing. Not really interested in rebuilding this box from scratch though I guess that's an option. Below is the output from MGADiag. I'm guessing that my issue is this "Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\drivers\spsys.sys". I ran SFC which did not find any integrity violations. Am I down to copying this file over from elsewhere? Is this file unique per system or to a version of Windows 7? I have access to other systems but not to win7 32bit. My upgrade media is buried somewhere so may not be easily found.

Thanks!
Tim

Hi, I upgraded the HD on my HP Elitebook 8540w laptop. WIndows 7 Premium, OEM, from HP, system still under warranty. No problems for a couple weeks after the upgrade, then Windows is suddenly not valid. It is wierd. The System Properties shows Windows is Valid. But Windows Update and Microsoft Security Essentials will not update. The online check at Microsoft fails.

I loaded the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool to see if you had any other ideas.

Thanks for reposting (and welcome to the forum!)

This is a slightly atypical case, but....

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

Hello,
I created an account because I need specific help with this problem.

Recently, I suddenly got a "Build 7601 - This copy of Windows is not genuine" on my Acer laptop. I have been using it for two years and this is the first time it happened.

I've been searching everywhere on the internet and this MGA report seems to be important in determining the problem.

A:Why do I suddenly get a not genuine Windows notification?

It states it's a default key because that is what it is and it will never activate.

From post #1

Using keyfinder program to get my serial key, inputted it, but I get the message saying it is a default product key

If you can't read the Microsoft COA sticker I know of no way to retrieve the key from your system.

Don't give up because their might be another member who does. Just hang in there.

What I think to have caused the problem is in this previous thread:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1052878-solved-iconcache-db-missing.html

You guys asked me to make a new thread, so.

Anyway, after doing that last fix and booting the computer the next day, I got an error saying I may be a victim of software counterfitting, followed by a black wallpaper with a not genuine message at the bottom right. I need to get it working again so I can get updates, and I've lost my Windows 7 Home Premium key which makes this all the more difficult to fix with normal tech support from Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure since it was caused by that registry file (I do believe so) that you guys would know best how to undo this.

Was faced with this issue after turning on an HP G61 laptop today - it was fine yesterday. The computer was purchased new four years ago from PC World. Nothing has been downloaded or installed in the last couple of months except LastPass (around three weeks ago).
A System Restore to a week ago made no difference. I extracted the Windows product key with SIW (the sticker on the bottom of the laptop has worn away) and re-entered it to no avail. We have the recovery discs that we made when it was new out of the box, but don't want to use them if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Windows suddenly 'Not Genuine' after four years

OEM Activation 2.0 Data-->
BIOS valid for OA 2.0: no, invalid SLIC table

The problem is that your system is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table that should be present in the system to be able to self-activate the OS.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

Hi! I found your forum while trying to find a fix for why my version of Windows 7 was suddenly not genuine after having this computer for 8 months.

I bought the computer from TigerDirect in January 2012. It is a CyberPower Inc computer running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition. On Sunday, my roommate turned the computer on to have the validation error message. At the same time, Windows has 4 critical security updates it is trying to make but keeps failing on - 3 are security updates (KB2705219, KB2712808, and KB2731847) and one for IE9 for windows 7 64 bit systems (KB2722913). Every time we turn the computer off and on, it tries to make these updates and fails.

I ran malwarebytes to be sure I don't have malware causing the problem. I tried to do a system restore, but the system fails every time it tries. There was a thread that suggested trying rsop.msc, but my computer doesn't have that available. another suggestion looked at the registry editor users/1-5-20 (something like that), but that didn't work either. I saw a third suggestion on deleting a certain update, but can't find that one now that I restarted my system.

I ran the MGADaig.exe tool and got the results below. One interesting thing I noted is that when the tool ran, the product key listed agreed with the product key on the service tag on the side of the computer; however, when I go to control panel/system security/system and look at the key listed there, it doesn't agree. The system will not let me chang... Read more

I have a little Toshiba netbook. We have used it around the house for years now as a secondary computer. I have been literally using it for years with no problems. Yesterday it ran a Windows Update and restarted the computer. Now the desktop is black with the message

Windows 7
Build7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine.

I have the product key. So I figured, what the hell, I'll try and activate. I clicked to activate and I entered my product key. It tried to activate but said "something went wrong." Furthermore, there is NO OPTION in my activation options for the over-the-phone activation. And when I click "contact Microsoft for help", I get an error from windows help that it is unable to download from the website (whatever that means).

Anyway, here's my information from the MGADIAG report.

After installing a bunch of updates (among which the infamous KB3004394) early this week, I started getting the 'windows not genuine' message (my copy is 100% legal). I run the KB3024777 update which is supposed to fix things, but I'm still getting the 'windows not genuine' message. Any ideas?

Maybe a stupid question but, did you restart your PC after installing the update?

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the KB3024777 update and reinstalling it. Then reboot.

Ensure KB3004394 is not installed.

I've been running Win7 Professional (64-bit) for about 2 years, and keeping up to date with Windows Update several times per week. For the past few days, some of my cloud services have been (inconsistently) failing to automatically log in and have been prompting me to do so when I boot up. And starting yesterday, my computer hung for a few moments (pointer with spinning Aero on a black screen) before starting to load my desktop. It did the same thing again today, only this time instead of finally loading my wallpaper, it kept the background my solid color.

Suddenly today, it's decided my system software isn't the real deal, even though it is. I tried doing what was suggested here, but it didn't do any good. When I try to re-type my product key, I get Error Code 0x80070426. I even tried doing the phone activation, and it SEEMED to accept my input, but after another reboot, it's still telling me I'm counterfeit.

Edit: When I turn on my computer, the system greets with me a message that says my "activation period has expired" with code 0xC004F009. Also, I have no sound anymore because the system thinks I don't have any kind of audio device installed.

Edit 2: My audio system has spontaneously re-asserted itself. I don't know if that means it was an unrelated problem, but I still can't validate my copy of Windows.

It's starting to get really frustrating. Could anyone please help me?

Thank you.

I got it working a few months ago, had all the updates, even updated it for the umpteenth time a few days ago...now i turn it on to a message saying i have a fake copy of windows!

What's also weird is now i can't go to a lot of pages that woud be helpful...I clicked on the windows message and when i hit the link to contact microsoft about it it won't load...same thing happens when i try to contact e-machines or use their online tech support (java based window) or hotmail or yahoo mail...it just brings up a blank page or says it could not be displayed

Hello.
I recently received the "Windows 7 Build 7601" message. Like others, my screen is black with the exception of the shortcut icons. But, I can still access programs. The PC was custom built last February and was validated by windows when build was completed. This problem only surfaced after I replaced a faulty motherboard.

Where did you download that version of MGADiag from? - it's 4 years out of date!
This makes it very difficult to properly analyse the results.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Dear Reader,

My problem occurred when I booted my Windows 7 laptop yesterday (HP), and saw after logging in that my desktop background had reset itself to the factory default. Also, the shortcuts present on the desktop were also different from before, and some files (documents) I had placed on the desktop were not there. The Quick Launch bar was also empty except for Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. When I ran some programs (Firefox, VLC media player) I got some screens saying 'this program is not your default program for ... ' as if I ran them for the first time.

When opening Windows Explorer, I also found the quick access 'Libraries' were all empty. I checked C:/Users/Myname and found all my files there as usual (thankfully), but something is clearly out of the ordinary. It's almost as if I have logged into a different account on the same computer, which is not the case as there is just one (with Admin rights).

Thinking this may have been the results of a virus/malware, I have run a full system scan with AVG and MalwareBytes. AVG removed a few things tagged as 'tracking cookies' and MalwareBytes removed 2 undesirable registry entries tagged 'non-malware'.

Can anyone tell me what may have happened to my computer? And how I can reverse it?

(I can check if it is done automatically, but I do not make system restoration points regularly. Which may be unwise, but I do not use this laptop very often.)

Thank you for any advice!

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD.

I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. (I set it to CD first, because I was re-installing from the disc, followed by my SSD.) I changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2.

On my Mobo, my SSD is plugged into SATA3 Port #1. My HDD is plugged into SATA2 Port #1.

As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc. Then I started getting messages that I wasn’t running Genuine Windows. I clicked the “Resolve Online” button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows.
This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA.

Including the little (~100 MB) System partition with the Master Boot Record? If not, I'm guessing that when you re-installed Windows 7 it simply added the new installation to the MBR w/o caring whether the original installation really still existed.

I've gotten that "not genuine" message a couple times after an update, but the online resolution has always worked for me. You have tried that again, right?

When it asks you to input a product key you can type in the key on the underside of the laptop on the Vista sticker.

I don't know what I did but suddenly all the font changed to a really small and weird style font. It seems like it has affected everything. I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox. It seems to have affected Firefox and Explorer as well as Windows programs like Excel. When I open an Excel doc it now doesn't even display some numbers and it looks like it reformatted the whole page.

The most bizarre thing is that at first I was still able to read my Yahoo mail with the funky font but now I can't even open my Yahoo mail in Firefox. It will work in Explorer but not Firefox. What's even more weird is that I signed out and my wife signed into her Yahoo mail and it worked for her. UGH!

I've tried resetting the fonts to default to no avail. At first when I checked Times New Roman wasn't even listed in my fonts so I reinstalled it. I picked out the fonts in Windows and in the browsers and it still doesn't change anything. I've tried other suggestions on this site but can't find a fix. I am desperate!

Any ideas? Thanks!

A:Font suddenly changed...not only browser but in Windows too

Hi, how did you reset the fonts to default? It might be your profile is corrupt, create a new profile and see if everything is OK. To set default fonts you need to modify the registry.

I'm a vista noob... were this XP I think I'd have this covered but vista does everything differently and I'm lost.

I was uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2007 for the millionth time (separate issue) and and now the fonts are weird.

here's an image of what I'm talking about:

this isn't so bad here but it makes some windows completely unreadable makes most icons etc difficult to use.

Help me out here.

A:Default Windows font suddenly changed, need to fix it

Sorry for wasting your time. Just needed to reboot. I messed with the icon settings before along the way but I don't know if that fixed it or if it just needed a good reboot.
I avoid reboots... I multi task like crazy and it's irritating to have to stop side processes just to deal with OS nonsense.

So I was watching some youtube videos with mozilla and then all of the sudden the screen flashes, turns into classic theme, slows down my pc a bit (cpu usage suddenly >50%). This happened for like a minute and then everything back to normal again. This never happens to me before. Can anybody explain it to me? Am I the only one?

A:Windows theme suddenly changed into classic and slows down

Hello Vincent,

I would say that is sounds like your WEI score may have updated at that time, or a video driver may have been installed through Windows Update.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601: Suddenly "This copy of Windows is not genuine"

You have a Trusted Store Tamper, which may or may not be causing your Key to be seen as counterfeit.
We need to try and find out what's causing the tamper, and fix that, before we can establish whether your key is a problem.

The tamper timestamp - TTS Error: T:20120825145218934- shows the system detected it last at 14:52 on 25 Aug.
please reboot and see if the timestamp changes to the reboot time.

If it does, then we know that the tamper is still active, and the chances are that it's malware (unless you know of any recent installs or driver updates that could be affecting the system?)

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM PRO' at the end of the installation - from www.malwarebytes.org and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Delete everything it finds

You will be told that the drive is locked,

Hello
I am helping a friend clean up her laptop and there are a number of issues I can not seem to work out on my own. I have Googled the issues she is having and it seems my only solution is to edit the registry files on a command line basis which is risky so I figured I would try speaking with you geniuses first. :)

She has a Compaq Presario CQ56 which came with a legitimate copy of Windows 7 (She even kept the sticker on it to the right of the track pad) but a month or two ago, it suddenly started telling her that she is not running a genuine copy of Windows. Her wallpaper is black with a 'not genuine' watermark in the bottom right corner, her start menu items are all gone and she gets notices about security center not being able to work until she buys a new copy of Windows.

Aside from that, I have found that using Internet Explorer (her default browser) to search for Microsoft's Malware Remover tool always redirects to a different web page for some malware/trojan removers or Norton's web page etc etc.

Lastly her track pad seems to tard out a lot. It seems that after a few minutes, you are only allowed the very left most half-inch of track pad to move the cursor and anything beyond that to the right just brings up this crappy miniature scroll bar.

I have installed and updated both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and run full scans of each in Safe mode as well as the 64 bit version of Microsoft's Malware removal tool. Malwarebytes initially showed me 2 re... Read more

A:Suddenly getting "Windows not genuine" error 0x8004fe22

I don't think that the problem is related to the one from the CBS.log - but there are tools that can deal with it, which we'll get to later.

For the MGADiag problem...

Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slui.exe|slui.exe.mui|COM Registration

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA}/S
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA}/S

Here are some instructions to make life easier

1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories ? then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight ? select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left ? select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Few days ago my windows 7 pro started giving me this annoying message saying that my windows is not genuine. I've searched some articles online and found that it might be due to Avast. I used https://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility to remove it (I didn't go through the standard Control Panel uninstall process). I also made sure that my windows is updated. Now I switched to MSE. However, the message is still showing! Below is my MGADiag report. Please help. Thank you!

Out of the blue yesterday I started getting a message that my copy of Win 7 Prof is not genuine. I saw on other threads that antivirus software can cause this and I have Norton installed. I tried the sticky solution of the wordpad script and got an error that it couldn't be done because some threads were in use. Here's my diag tool report:

If it is, I can give you the KB number and you can uninstall it.

A:Win 7 PRO OEM activated, suddenly turns non-genuine

This isn't an OEM install - its a retail licence. What makes you think its an OEM licence?

It's an HP computer that originally had Windows 7 Home but it was upgraded to Windows 7 Pro about 2 years ago. It's now showing that Windows isn't genuine. It seems to have happened after installing an update, but I'm not positive. It had Symantec Endpoint installed but I removed that once I started troubleshooting.

I tried the fix where I stop sppsvc, rename tokens.dat to tokens.bar, and then start sppsvc. When I run slui.exe I get a Software Licensing window that says Windows isn't genuine, go online and validate. If I try that it fails and advises me to purchase Windows.

If I run slui.exe 3 at that point and enter the 7 Pro upgrade product key, I get Error 0xC004F061, this product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

Any advice that will avoid having to re-install and re-upgrade would be much appreciated.

A:7 Pro Upgrade suddenly not genuine (0xC004F200)

You have he Default Key for Windows 7 Pro installed - which can never be activated.

What type of Upgrade Key do you have? A full retail one with disks, or an Anytime Upgrade?

If it's a Full Upgrade, then a repair install will work (with a bit of fiddling).
If it's an Anytime Upgrade, that option isn't open to you, and you'll have to either do a clean install of Home followed by an upgrade, or see if MS Activation support can help (I don't know if they will or not).

Let me know, and we'll proceed from there.

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD.

I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. I also changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2.

As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc.

During boot, I get a message that asks me to choose OS - Windows 7, or Windows 7. It starts a 30s timer, then chooses the highlighted option and boots normally.

Then I started getting messages that I wasn?t running Genuine Windows. I clicked the ?Resolve Online? button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows.
This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA.
I called MS Tech Support. I spoke with a very helpful gentleman. He checked out my product key. He had me activate my product, which I hadn?t done on my new install yet, and I got a ?Genuine? tag to appear under the Windows Experience Rating in ?My Computer>Properties?. He said I was good to go.

Now, 48hrs later, I?m getting the "Not Genuine" message again. I have a screenshot of Windows claiming to be Genuine and Not Genuine at the same time. (See Attached photo.) I have installed a lot of updates since my re-inst... Read more

Does anyone have any ideas what to do??

A:My software suddenly stopped being genuine

If you use original Toshiba recovery image (preinstalled Vista version) something like this should not happen. You can use this recovery image so often you want but it will always be activated version.
With your notebook you have also paid valid licence for preinstalled Vista.

What to do?
Use recovery DVD and install Vista again.

Two months ago, I got a sudden notification that my Windows wasn't genuine. I had been required to run that check before and it was always fine, a waste of time, but no problem. This time, it ran itself while I was away from the computer and the bad news was waiting on the screen. After that, the Windows Update has not worked.

My Computer properties doesn't allow re-entry of the CoA code (which I have), but says that windows is OEM. My factory warranty has expired a long time ago.

Windows Update shows a red shield with an X and says that the Windows update service is not running. I did the first group of things that were proposed for SimpleSimon above. Stopped bit service, crypto service and wuaug(?) service, renamed the update log in c:\windows, and rebooted. Same thing exactly. Pardon me if I didn't remember the spellings. I followed the instructions to the letter at the time, however.

I have purchased a ton of software and do not want to reinstall everything, even if I were somehow able to find it all... I'm not a software pirate.

Hey!

So today when I turned on my computer I was unable to go online, "website not available - DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" I believe i found flat in the ipconfig files as going to cmd and doing anything with ipconfig send the application error, (0xc0000022). while I'm trying to fix this i noticed that on the bot left screen the words "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." are there - this version of windows is genuine and has been sense i got this pc in 2011. anyways Im lost. the main thing I need to fix is inter webs access.

oh yeah, also malwarebytes failed to start up for me to check for viruses but i believe i was able to fix that when I ran winthresher.

Steps taken;
-unplug replug of Computer, modem, router
-sfc /scannow
-winthresher DLed on different computer.
-a few hours of the Chrome dinosaur run
-Download ipconfig.dll files online
-MSCONFIG

Update: using the MSCONFIG i disabled all services on boot but the Microsoft ones, and stopped all start up apps, restarted pc and now the wallpaper is solid black

I built a computer and activated Windows 7 Pro on it. I used it occasionally for about one year, with no difficulties. Then I made some hardware changes. I added a solid state disk and moved the OS to it. I removed several small HDs that I had used only to verify that all the ports on the MB worked. I added a 2TB disk. A few hours or days later I got the black screen and the not genuine messages.

I have tried several means to make the system appear appear legal to MS, including some from here. They all seem to be doing something, but all end with error code C004E003, licensing service reported that license evaluation failed.

I suspect that the source of the W7pro software is related to this problem, perhaps as a cause, but at least as a complication. I bought it on eBay from someone that claimed he put Linus on his new Dell
computer without ever booting the W7pro that was installed at Dell. Before buying, I checked on the web and that seemed to be a fairly common and legal approach. The DVD arrived in a sealed envelope with a Dell bar code and part number. A smaller sealed envelope attached to it had the license key inside.

After trying all the claimed fixes I could find, I called Microsoft Activation center at 888-352-7140. They admit it is MS software that set the bit in a DB that causes C004E003. They either can not, or will not tell me what is wrong that caused the bit to be set. They also say that only Dell can unset the bit.

So I called Dell. I talked... Read more

A:Activated fine for one year, now suddenly not genuine

Hi Chuck,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but its a non-genuine install, you were sold a pup

Your very first words "i built a computer"
Means that the only types of product key you can use legitamately are
OEM System Builder
Retail

You have a OEM only key, for use solely on Factory built models.
The product ID data, i believe, was for use on demo machines.

MS picked it up as non genuine when you started swapping your HDD's/SSD's
There is no way you can check to see if a 25 character key is genuine or not UNTIL its been on a comp for roughly 90 days, when MS performs a major genuine check.
The slmgr/rearm you used will only work another 2 times.

Hey Tech Support Guy,
I was using my computer when out of nowhere the display changed. Now the colors have changed a little (they look lighter), and my desktop background shows drained colors as well as what seems to be a flickering in some colors...I've restarted, tried changing around my colors and display settings but nothings working! Also what was normal font now looks bold and almost hurts the eyes with its intensity. What happened??? Thanks much!

When I log into my computer with my account, everything is fine. As soon as I switch users, all the colors get weird; the hues are off a bit for some reason. It is very noticable when it happens - everything suddenly gets a little greener. When I switch back to my account, the colors stay strange. The only way to get back to the original colors is to restart.

It seems like as soon as the settings for the new account are being loaded, the display changes. You would think that if it was a user specific setting, then when I switched back to my account, the colors would return to normal, but they don't.

Any thoughts?

I've checked the resolution and color profile, and they are the same for both accounts. I am at a loss as to why this is happening.

Thanks!!

A:Colors suddenly changed

The first thing that I would check is the driver for the graphics card. Make sure that it is up to date. Access via device manager. Update from the company website.
Once inside device manager, look for any yellow warning notices about problems.

Hello ,

Today I downloaded an Activation for Windows 7.

It requires a reboot.

When I rebooted suddenly I was in a "Grub Command prompt" apparently.

Just like this :

Important :

I downloaded Ubuntu couple days ago but I removed it.
I mean I had a boot loader with windows and ubuntu but I removed it.

My question is this :

How did it happened? , is this a Virus? and How can I go back to my previous bootloader when I would turn on my computer or reboot it and it would just go to Windows.

Thanks in advance.

I hope this is the correct forum to post this question.

I checked my IP address recently on an internet site and wrote it down, but tonight I checked it again and noticed that it was completely different to the one I had written down earlier. Is this cause for concern? To be honest I really don't understand the significance of an IP. Maybe someone could enlighten me.

A:Why Has My Ip Address Suddenly Changed?

Hi Southstreet. If you're on dial-up that is normal and is controlled by your isp. It's called a "dynamic" address.A "Static" address is one that will never change, such as one provided by a high speed cable connection. The first couple of paragraphs here explain what an IP Address is.

I have a PC with Windows XP and for some reason, many of my program icons changed to the icon of another program. This is my Mom's computer and lord only knows how this happened, but for example, when I click start > all programs > microsoft office > word, it's icon is not the word icon, but the icon for another program on the computer. It is like this all over the place.

When I click on word, it starts opening the program that is associated with the icon and not word. Any idea why this may be happening and how I can fix it? I tried right-clicking on the program > properties, but the find target button is grayed out so I can't change the program it's associated with. Any help on how I could fix this would be great. Thanks!

A:ip adress has changed suddenly to another country

The IP address is assigned by the network to which the PC is connected.  It usually does not give your location but the location of the provider :IE the network source that is provided.  So if you are using a network from a hotel for example, it would be wherever the hotel network is originating.  It is not likely to happen at your home unless the ISP is located elsewhere.

Hello,

We have about 500 PCs on our network and recently within the last month, I have been receiving many calls from employees whom at one time, had their default homepage set to MSN.com.

Now for some reason, it has changed to mail.live.com which is blocked by our SurfControl system.

Some users have changed it back to msn.com but IE reverts back to mail.live.com

Since MSN.com is the default homepage for IE6 (i believe it is anyways...) has anyone heard something happening similar to this?

Thanks in advance for any info

Hi there folks,

I sat down this mroning to install a couple of educational softwares etc. I realized that certain settings have changed and I do not know how to get these back to their original state:

1. The font on my desktop icons and Windows Explorer are different (smaller and different style).
2. The headers on Outlook messages are huge. The size of most pop up messages are huge too (e.g. reminder pop ups from Outlook). When I open the 'options' window or any others within Outlook, the window size is the same as before, but the text is huge and bolded, and even goes out of the borders of the window (and hence is incomplete).

What setting could have changed is a mystery. How do I get this back?? I have tried to do a Office XP Repair (from the Programs Uninstall section). That did not work.

Please suggest something!
Thanks.

Previously when I would click on the start button, the menu that appeared would reach about half way up the screen. Today, however, it goes all the way to the top of the screen. I checked the buttons properties and all there is as it has always been plus the menu has the same amount of icons on it as usual. Also, the "Most Used Programs" part of the menu is blank after every reboot.

Can anyone shed some light as to what is going on?

I seem to have done something that screwed up my Win 7 RC slightly, but I have no idea what it was. All of a sudden, the icons on the desktop (more precisely, icons for links, not actual files) change their colors at the last stage of the boot up. What I mean is that after I type in my password the desktop appears with all icons shown correctly. But then, as the machine finishes booting up - i.e. starts all the sidebar and anti-virus and other apps - at the last second the icons lose their colors. Sometimes later on they regain them - but again, I have no idea what causes it. If anyone has seen something similar, I would be grateful for a tip.

Try a system restore. Or delete your icon cache.

My taskbar appearance has changed to the old version look (an off-white color bar). It used to be blue. I've tried to change the appearance in control panel and also a system restore but still nothing.
Also, the driver for sounds and network do not start. Even the security settings, I keep onr eceiving notifications that it is off. I tried to open it, but it says an error. I also did System Restore, but the system restore says there is an error to the shadow copy blah blah, and the next and back buttons are grayed out.
I tried to reformat it using the disc but it says error loading the drivers. Other software is fine, I can open Word, play games, but the sound icon has a red cross on it and also the network icon, it doesn't detect the wifi network.

I have a Maxtor 300gb drive in an external case, that holds most of my important data. Such as the websites I'm working on, music, The install .exe files for programs I use regularly and just about everything. Now i was getting ready to reformat my internal hard drive on my laptop, so i moved everything i wanted to keep, onto the external then unplugged it. I reformatted the internal and reinstalled windows xp pro. Then plugged in my external to get my data off of it. To my surprise it wouldn't show up. I checked "Disk Manager" to see what was going on and it showed my drive but the data was Raw. The NTFS File structure was no longer on it.

So what I am asking is, is there a way i can just add the NTFS file structure back onto the drive without formatting?

I checked a file recovery program and all the data is still there, but if i use the program all the names, labels, folders, id3 tags, and all that stuff will be lost.

Can someone help me please?

A:My NTFS Drive is suddenly changed into Raw Data

Adding the NTFS file structure and formatting are two ways of saying the same thing. So, no, you can't have one without the other.

1) Try to recover your data.

Free recovery applications:

1) Recuva
2) PCI File Recovery
3) Restoration
4) Free Undelete (NTFS only)
5) Softperfect File Recovery
6) ADRC Data Recovery Tools
7) Undelete Plus
8) Data Recovery
9) Recover Files
10) DriveRescue
11) Ultimate Data Recovery
12) Disk Investigator
2) Try to recover the lost partition.

Testdisk Documentation
Testdisk Download

Free DTIData NTFS Partition Repair Tool

These are free. More are available, but not free. Chances are that unless you used the "Safely Remove Hardware" method of disconnecting your drive, that the cache was not emptied and the file system damaged.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1 on an HP desktop.  I happened to have my Documents library sorted by date modified, to keep the folder I was using at the top of the list.  Suddenly 6 random folders show up at the top of the list, all with a date and time stamp of 8/23/14 2:27pm.  I had not touched any of these folders, and I noticed this about a half hour after that timestamp.
I am concerned because one of the folders had bank statements and the other some Social Security application information. The other 4  folders were just benign like recipes.  Also, in that time while I was working, I had recently saved a file to Google drive, to make it available to me from other computers.  That file was not in any of these 6 folders.  Unfortunately, I do share my Documents library on my Homegroup (and I have since changed that...)
What could change the date modified on those folders? It seems like more than a coincidence that this happened right after I saved a file to Google drive, and that two of the folders had information that I wouldn't want to be public.
I ran a virus scan (Windows Sec Essentials) and Malwarebytes and nothing shows up.  By the way, I have hundreds of folders in my Documents library, so just having 6 of them change is weird.

A:date modified on 6 folders changed suddenly

I have no direct experience with the issue but I concur with you that it's not a coincidence.
Google drive is responsible for the date changes.
I have never seen Windows do it on its own.

Hi there

I have no idea why but all of a sudden lots of fonts suddenly look different when I'm browsing the web. Weather it be Chrome, FireFox or Internet Explorer, the problem remains the same. I have not made any changes to my computer recently or installed any software. I have searched all over the internet but cannot find a solution.

I have attached a few images so you can understand when I say that fonts do not look right. I believe they are the same fonts as they should be however there is no smoothness to them anymore and in some cases the font appears to have "shifted" place slightly with some characters being chopped off or different sizes.

It does appear to be doing it solely with any type of font such as "google fonts", the problem really does seem to be across the board but also quite random as some fonts such as Arial still appear to display fine.
I have the latest version of Chrome, FireFox or Internet Explorer, all windows updates are upto date and I'm running Windows 7.

Please let me know if you have any ideas

However, when I check in my Firefox (my main browser) under the font settings, it still says Times New Roman, size 16.
I checked under Control Panel in Fonts, Times New Roman is still there and seems good; Malware Antibytes and Antivirus return a clean system.

Any suggestions?

By far the simplest fix is to use System Restore to roll back Windows to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

I'd check the Windows\Fonts folder to see if by chance your default font(s) got deleted somehow.  If so, you could copy what you need from another computer.  You could also try System Restore to a few days back.

Good luck.

Hello Surfstar,

Are you referring to the font for Google search results? Taking a screenshot, uploading to Imgur and including the hosted image in your next reply may help understand exactly what you're referring to.

Have you recently installed any new browser addons or extensions?

Hi Sevenforums,

I've bought an Asus Laptop last year with a genuine copy of windows 7 Home Premium. But, as of today, it has turned 'un-genuine'. Why is it so? What can I do?

Thanks!

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

PB

I was editing some video when the application crashed, i was not too worried about this as sometimes it happens, so i did a ctrl, alt and delete to end the process, then i remembered i had downloaded a trail of 'dvd creator 6' and decided to install it to see what it was like, so i unpacked it (as it was a zip file) and installed it, it went through the process ok, when it finished it asked if i wanted to open the application so i clicked on 'yes' but it would not open i went to the desktop and clicked on the shortcut but still it would not open, i then went to 'start, all programs' and tried to open it there but no luck, everything else associated with this application like user guide would open but not the application it self so i decided to restart my pc and i noticed the o/s loading screens was slower than usual and when it did get to my desktop the desktop background picture loaded as usual but all the application and taskbar took ages to load, anyway i tried dvd creator 6 but still no luck so i uninstalled it, then i noticed all my flv. and vob files had changed from the usual icon to one that can only be described as like a page with the corner folded over a box on this page with a blue border at the top with 3 little white boxes on the right in this blue border and in the centre of the box 3 underlined images (which i could not make out) clicking on these will not open them in their associated applications or play in any media player, luckily i ...
