Solved: 'no audio devices' after installing audio driver

Q: Solved: 'no audio devices' after installing audio driver

I have just installed the audio driver for my motherboard, restarted the computer and it seems that driver doesn't do anything at all. I have the speaker icon in the tray bar with a red 'x' on it, and it says: "No Audio Output Device is installed". Why is that? I tried the driver that's on the motherboard CD and also the one from Realtek's website, and while they are different versions, the problem is identical.

Please advise.

A: Solved: 'no audio devices' after installing audio driver

You have posted in Windows 7 forum but your spec says
OS: Windows Vista
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
RAM: Kingston 2GB DDR2 667Mhz

2. Is it the same system please but with 7, if NOT please post the spec
3. What does device manager show please for sound - on the entry there

I'm trying to install the audio driver for my father's computer. He has Windows XP and his motherboard is an Asrock P4I45G. I downloaded the driver from Asrock's website:
But now I'm lost. There is no installation wizard, just a zip file. And I have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Installing an audio driver

I'm assuming it's the C-Media audio driver for XP, dated 01-16-2004, that you downloaded and saved.

Place the ZIP file by itself in a folder on the desktop. Right-click the file, then click "Extract Here" from the list that appears. Once the extraction process completes in a few seconds, a folder containing several files will appear. (Note: You can now delete the ZIP file). Double-clicking the "Setup.exe' file will start the install process. Once it's complete, reboot the computer.

(Just in case you need it for future reinstall, I would burn off the folder to a CD-R)

man am I lost. Win XP Pro SP3 on HP DC7100 3Ghz P4, 762mb Ram, 80 gb seagate.

I had this system working perfectly until Documents & Settings got messed up and started making duplicates of user accounts. wiped the drive, reformatted the slow way. Loaded Windows XP Pro SP3, as before. When I went to HP's support page, I was mystified that the Audio Driver was not listed. Went on Chat support and inquited. They say the audio Codec is ADI 1981B and to go there and get driver. So I did that. no worky.
Caused BSOD/dump.

I removed the video card. Booted in normal mode and it BSOD'd again. Booted into Safe Mode and it came up. Checked the Device Manager and it shows Realtek AC'97 installed with driver loaded [for first time].
I did change the IRQ settings in between these two bootups.

The baffling thing is that it all worked swell previously. i don't even recall a hiccup of any kind in loading the various drivers.
some gremlin in my office sabotaging devices!

Do I need to go into the registry and remove every entry relating to audio devices? how?

A:Solved: BSOD installing ADI 1981B Audio Driver. it worked before.. why now?

Go back to the HP support page and scroll down the page to the driver listings. Find the section for "Driver - Chipset" (below the BIOS and Diagnostic listings). The link is titled "Intel Chipset Support for Microsoft Windows". When you find it, click the black "Download" button to the RIGHT, and the chipset driver pack will download to your system. Save it to the Desktop, or some other place where you can find it easily.

The file name is "SP28061.exe"; it is less than 6 MB, so it should download quickly. Find the file and double-click it; the installer will run and replace your existing motherboard chipset drivers. Next, REBOOT THE SYSTEM; do NOT avoid rebooting. Windows will need to reboot to finish deleting the old files and installing the new ones.

Once you get back to the Desktop, test your sound and check Device Manager for problems (yellow exclamation marks). If everything is working properly, you got a bit lucky. If not, reinstall the ADI 1981B drivers again, and REBOOT, so Windows can get everything in order again.

After that, your sound problem should be fixed; let us know how this turns out.

Ok, I have a reasonable knowlage of computers, i have spent the last 4 days trying to fix my Phillips PSC805 Auruilium sound card.

I have recently put more ram in and a new video card (NVIDIA Gforce2 MX 100/200) its no the greatest but i cant afford new ones.I am running Windows XP professional. I have had the sound card and speakers for almost 2 years and they have worked fine untill this new hardware was put in.

straight after these were put in, My sound card went dysfunctional. it has power, but the aurulium sound agent 2 program will not install completely. it will begin to install but before long it will say, VDI32.exe has encountered a problem and must shut down. after that an error message appears saying "failed to obtain 805 bus interface" and directly after that "805 Registration failed!"

after this i attempt to open aurilum sound agent 2 and it states that "The QVE bus driver is not detected! Reinstall the Qsound virtual audio devices bus enumerator driver."

this message is also displayed on startup of my computer.

I am in desperate need of some help, Its driving me crazy. it also seems to be affecting other applications on my computer.

Please help.

Alright here's my situation:

I have a Core2Duo PC running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, hooked up to my TV using a HDMI cable. This has been working fine for 2 years now. Yesterday I decided to add some more RAM to this PC (4 GB instead of the standard 2 GB to be exact). I know 32 bit will only read 3 GB but I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit later.

Anyway I booted up the computer, worked fine of course, even watched a movie or two without problems. Then this morning I booted up the PC and I suddenly noticed the volume icon saying that there were no audio devices detected! I checked under Hardware and there are no audio devices whatsoever! So my HDMI cable is still giving me picture but no sound! Seeing as I'm using onboard audio I immediately booted into the BIOS and although I couldn't find a specific option that said onboard audio I did see something audio related being "HDA" (I assume HD audio) on automatic, the other option was ACRealtek97 or something. However it was enabled so no luck there.

Does anyone know how all of a sudden my HDMI cable isn't providing audio anymore? I even checked my Nvidia card which also stated that HDMI audio was enabled.

I hope anyone can help me, thanks in advance.

I'm gonna try and lay out my problem very simply, and then tell you what I have tried/done.

PROBLEM: When I plug in Headphones, I can not hear anything, and in the playback devices, nothing is shown to be plugged in. This goes the same for my other audio device which is a bose sound dock (for ipod but I connect using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable)

Okay, so here goes. When I first build the system and installed windows, i wasn't thinking much of the sound as i was installing updates and video card drivers and what-not. I did, at some point, connect the bose to the computer using the 3.5mm jack on the front panel of the computer. It worked fine, I heard the little sounds the computer makes when logging on. Since then I have had troubles with my network card and ran windows update and various other things.

Now no sound works at all. When I realized this I tried:
-Changing the actual front panel cable that is connected to the mobo from hd audio to ac 97 (and changing the setting in the bios)
-Searched for many hours online trying many different solutions such as:
-updating drivers
-rolling back drivers

Other things i've tried:
-system restore
-update bios
-install audio drivers from mobo disc

I have moved past being extremely frustrated and I now just dont know what else to do.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback what so ever :)

I have three audio devices on my pc (ATI HDMI, Via HD onboard and steelseries usb soundcard) and through all devices I only get audio out of the left channel. I have tried two pairs on headphones and my tv speakers all with the same results. I have looked at all the balancing end everything is set to even on both channels.

Windows 7 X64 ultimate
M4A78 PRO Mobo Via HD audio
Steel Series Usb SoundCard

A:Audio Only out of one channel (multiple headsets and audio devices)

As you have three devices, each one separately generates the sound. The only thing common would be the sound itself, such as a wav or mp3 file.

When you use the PC's sound chip (VIA HD) that is one hardware device and the wired on the motherboard output jacks. If you use a USB connected sound device then you are using that device to generate the sound and that device's physical jacks. If you use the ATI HDMI, most video cards have their own built in audio chip (unless this is an old video card that uses S/PDIF connection to the motherboard) and thus again everything separate for audio generation and connection.

One comment, if you have both the Via on board audio and the usb connected sound card enabled at the same time there can be conflicts and sound problems. Not the balance problem you have but there can be problems. If you want to use the VIA then physically disconnect the USB. If you want to use the USB, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS.

Hi there,

first i'll give ye the spiel about my laptop audio setup

I spilled a pint of vodka and blackcurrant all over the keyboard a few years ago, all this has damaged is how my speakers work (despite the wireless card and under the keyboard being covered in sticky sugar crystals)

(a) the two embedded speakers emit faint crackling when music is played at max volume.
(b)the embedded subwoofer works fine
(c) the headphone socket only works when a jack is inserted halfway in a very particular manner (giving audio to one desktop speaker only)

I've been using cheap "Trust SP 2750p" stereo usb speakers for the last few months (not interested in spending money on a proper external soundcard setup)

My question is: Can I configure windows or some application to allow audio playback through the usb speakers and the laptop speakers simultaneously? The internal subwoofer is pretty powerful and should sound quite nice combined with the usb speakers at reasonable volumes.

I've tried googling this but to no avail

Realtek AC97 soundcard, Acer 2003 wlmi,

TL;DR version:

Is there a windows xp config or software available that'll allow me to play audio through my usb speakers and internal laptop speakers simultaneously?

many many thanks if you can help me out

A:Play audio through two audio devices simultaneously?

First thing you should do is clean the sugar and gunk off the inside. I can't believe the keyboard still works

my computer's sound has stopped. I have searched through lots of websites looking for help.
I first noticed this problem when I tried to open iTunes and it came up with the message 'iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly'. I also cannot listen to music or things online either.
I have looked at my computer's device manager and can't find any catergory such as 'sound, video and game controllers', which one site suggested to try and check the sound card. I have also tried to update quicktime but that did nothing. I have also tried looking at 'sound' and under both the playback and recording columns it says that there are no audio devices installed. THis appears to be the common phrase along a problem with the audio configuration.
This has not ever happened to my computer before and I have had it for about 3 years now. It is a toshiba laptop with windows 7 home premium.
Please help guys, I am really frustrated.

A:Audio configuration no audio output devices?

If its not being detected at all in the Device Manager, it will not show up anywhere else.

When you boot up your PC, enter the BIOS (could be called "Setup") and check to see if the sound is disabled. If it is disabled in the BIOS it will not show up in Windows. If its showing as enabled in the BIOS, do a BIOS reset (to factory setup) and see if that makes a difference.

If its not disabled in the BIOS there is a chance the hardware has failed.

A:Problem installing AUDIO DRIVER

Run the Windows Update before reinstalling driver.

Go to system manufacturer’s website and look for latest driver, Download - SAVE - right click and
RUN AS ADMIN. REBOOT after each driver installation.

Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the reboot to
see if the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot until it is. It can take
several tries depending on how many rollbacks it does.

Also Right Click Speaker near clock - Playback Devices - right click in the box area - check
Show disable and disconnected devices. Highlight speaker and on the lower Right click
Properties check settings for Device Usage enabled and so on. Also do same for Configure
on Lower Left of that box.

I recently reformatted my PC and have had difficulty in installing audio drivers. My system is running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

My machine is using an Intel D955xbk motherboard. Other hardware info follows:

Genuine Intel CPU 3.20 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
500 GB Western Digital SATA hard drive
MSI R4670 Graphics Card, 512 MB DDR 3

After reformatting, I installed the necessary drivers and updated windows to Service Pack 3. For the audio device, I used the AUD_allOS_D20001.0x_PV_IDTGUI_v105_Legacy driver from Intel's site. On the first run, the files extracted and the installer launched. It appeared to precede normally, until I received the message "Cannot copy file st322000.dll" Although I saw this file in the extracted folder, the installer kept producing this message until I exited. Afterwards, the Device Manager showed Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs, and Two identical entries with question marks and the title "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus." On my second attempt to install the audio drivers, I received a message saying "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The installer will abort."

Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

I'm running Windows XP SP2. I had absolutely no problems installing the audio driver from the disc that came with my motherboard the first time around. Unfortunately, I had to reformat and reinstall Windows because my harddrive was being recognized as disk "i" instead of "c" (causing alot of problems for me installing software). So now that problem has been solved, but I can't get the Realtek audio driver installed. A message pops up each time I try to install it which says: "Install Realtek HD audio driver failure". Could it be because I also installed "uaa bus driver - version I don't think that one was meant to be used with Windows XP SP2 (it's not listed as being one of the OS's that supports this driver). Of course, now I have no idea how to get rid of it, and a balloon pops up from the taskbar each time I turn on my computer saying "new hardware installed". I try to install it using the wizard, but it won't install. What's gone wrong?

Earlier today, Windows Update prompted me to install two items: KB3035583 (recommended) and "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Audio Device, Other hardware - Realtek High Definition Audio" (optional). I installed both items.

After rebooting, the audio coming from my speakers could barely be heard. Changing the Windows 7 speaker icon (on the taskbar) to 100% didn't help much. The Volume Mixer applet lists the speaker icon and application icons at 100%. The Sound applet lists the speakers properties' levels at 100%. My speakers are set at their normal level; i.e., unchanged. I notice a red speaker icon on the taskbar which wasn't there before; presumably, the Realtek installation added this.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm not sure if there was any Realtek software present on my system beforehand--so I'm not sure if this software is new (to my PC) or an update. The detail dialog box for the Realtek software says it was released in December 2014; this is the first I've seen it.

A:windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

hello & welcome to TSF ,

you can go here ( and have you system scanned for free

this way you will find out what drivers you are looking for don't pay them just scan for the results !!

if your system has ATI Chipsets you can go here ( ) to get some of the drivers that you need , you will be looking for support & drivers downloads , you will have to tell them your system type and ect... but that is all automated

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E550 laptop with Windows 7.

There are no enhancement features in the speakers properties section. I have realtek card I need realtek driver? I read that not all motherboards use realtek audio chips.

What would be a suitable/compatible FRE audio driver to download to enable louder sound.

I just bought a notebook Lenovo G450 and I had drivers not found problem. My OS is Windows XP SP2. In Device Manager, there are four "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" device with exclamation mark. Below is the link to the screenshot of my device manager (pardon me, you have copy-paste the link manually since my post count is still below 5 so I cannot post link/image here):

There is no sound problem since I had successfully installed the sound driver from lenovo (The name is "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" as you can see on the screenshot above) and the sound is working without problem. I also had installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver before installing the sound driver.

I had tried installing realtek and nvidia high definition audio driver and all required drivers from lenovo (, but still no avail. The four yellow exclamation marks is still exist.

So I need help to identify what actually are the devices that shown as "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"? And where can I get the driver for that devices?

These are the device IDs:

Got a niggling problem with installing a driver for my onboard sound. I recently bought a motherboard bundle (Nforce 7050M-M) and I have got everything working fine but I just cannot install the driver for this. I'm currently using OS XP SP3.

It seems like I have tried every everthing that i've seen posted on a similar problem. I have all the latest drivers for windows, motherboard & Bios.

When I first had the problem it was a code 39 error on the device manager, now its a code 1 error (i'm can't rembmer at what point this changed as i've tried so many things).

Does anyone have solution for this problem?

Please help, thanks.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron E1505.

I have had no problems with it for several years; however, recently my computer has booted with a red 'X' on my audio and tells me that "No Audio Output Device is Installed." I checked my Drivers and my High Definition Sound and 2 Base System Device drivers have Yellow Question Marks by them. I tried to update the drivers manually but it says Windows Cannot Find Support for your Base System Device and it says my High Definition Audio is already up to date. I have also tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting Windows to let the system automatically search and update the drivers. This too has failed. I do not have my Windows 7 disc available at the moment to be able to do a clean install.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I have a really weird situation here. I have two audio devices, speakers and headphones, both connected to my computer. The headphones use a usb and a audio slot and the speakers use only a audio slot. When I go in properties, they show up backwards. If audio is playing through my headphones, it says they are playing through the speakers. This really hasn't been much of an issue because it hasn't really effected anything but now I'm trying to optimize the settings of these devices. If I try to enable higher bass quality for my headphones under "headphones" in the audio section, it enhances it for the speakers. But for both devices there are different options to enable or disable so I can't use them on the correct device. I know what I'm saying probably doesn't make sense but let me put it like this. Under my headphones there is an option for optimizing "Headphone virtualization," but I can't actually put it to effect because it applies for my speakers (which seems to do nothing), and under my speakers I don't get that option. So basically what I'm saying is I can't optimize my audio devices because there is some sort of weird error.

Ok... I really have no idea what is going on with my computer. Everything was working fine (Well I had noticed it was a lil slow since a few days) until this morning. I had a playlist running on WMP and all of a sudden one of the songs started being really choppy and kept stopping, etc. I thought the problem was with WMP but it does it with all my other players and also does it with videos... When I reboot my computer, it takes AT LEAST 10 minutes until I get to the desktop and can fully work on it. It spends minutes on the opening screen with the Windows XP thing running left to right (if you know what I mean). I'm starting to freak out... What should I do ?

About two weeks ago I installed a huge program (Virtua Tennis 3). But everything was working fine until today.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I include my HijackThis log, please tell me if you need any other info.

Another thing : I'm working on it now and it's going fine. Whenever I open a program though it takes a long time but ends up working ok. But I absolutely can't do anything when I open a song or video. It's terribly choppy. And my cursor buffers when I go through the window.

Hey everyone, Google directed me here after running into this sound problem with my new computer. I recently built myself a computer, it was my first time, everything seemed to be going pretty swimmingly too considering. Then i got service pack 2. The first restart after installing my audio was scratchy and going in and out. Then after the next restart it was dead. The drivers were still there, and according to windows, working fine, but as far as my computer is concerned, there's no sound devices. At first I thought maybe it was my sound card driver, but then i tried using my mobo's on board audio and that didn't get recognized either. Yes i made sure it was enabled in the bios. I'm really at quite a loss here. I've updated all the drivers for on board and my sound card with the newest i could find, and it just doesn't recognize it. Plugging my speakers into my onboard and using it's config program to do a sound demo puts sound into my speakers, so that part works. I need to get these devices communicating somehow and I haven't the faintest idea how. Anything short of reinstalling windows would be obviously preferred. If it helps here's my system specs:

I have a Gateway Laptop Model NX570X that I purchased three years back with Vista. August 2009 I was able to load XP Pro with no problems in the Gateway Laptop. I had to reload the OS again (XP Pro). This time on the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window all settings are grayed out. When I started the reload I installed Bluetooth, which I do not use. At that point the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window all where Bluetooth and with no audio. I have deinstalled Bluetooth but now all the settings are grayed out. The only CD I have for the laptop is Vista. What do I need to do to get audio back and or have the settings not to be grayed out.

Thanks in advance

Here you go, the main page for the Gateway NX570X:

Then click the first link "Driver Downloads".

Then under "Sound Drivers" you need to download the XP-compatible sound driver, titled "D00664-001-001.exe - SigmaTel Audio Driver version: 5.10.5082.0"

Then, on the next page, click "Download Driver".

I have a laptop with Vista OS, and want to have Realtek HD Audio Driver installed. I downloaded one of the many Vista packages from the Realtek site, and restarted my computer. But I didn't see the Realtek driver icon at the bottom of my toolbar. I uninstalled my IDT audio driver (the default my laptop comes with when it's bought) because I was told by the person from which I first heard about Realtek it was getting in the way of Realtek working. So I uninstalled IDT, and now my speakers don't emit sound anymore. Just headphones. I looked for the Realtek icon, but still don't see it. I searched through google, and apparently I need DirectX 8. I downloaded 9 because it was listed as the version specifically for Vista. I reinstalled Realtek again, and again restarted my computer. I still don't see the icon. What did I do wrong? So this all first started happening a few months ago when I was updating my audio drivers. The update was doing its thing then it crashed for some reason, and I haven't been able to update it at all since then. Oddly enough though, my audio has always worked fine. That is until today, for no reason that I can see, my audio has stopped working all of a sudden. But even though I can't hear anything either through my headphones or monitor speakers, I can see the little audio fader thing moving when I have some audio playing.

What can I do to try and fix this problem? Oh, and I should also note, the image that I posted, I get that pop-up everytime I start my computer. And the following is what it shows when you click the Details button.

Hi HS5964,

If the 'Audio' has been working fine lately, you may try performing a 'System Restore' to roll back 'corrupt software changes': System Restore
Note: Please create a 'Restore Point' before attempting the 'Restore': System Restore Point - Create

If the issue persists, you may remove 'Audio drivers' from 'Device Manager' and try installing fresh set of drivers.
- Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search box > Tap 'Enter' > Locate and Expand 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' category > Right click and uninstall the 'Realtek related' driver > Follow through with the uninstall > Allow 'Windows' to restart > 'Windows' will install updates for the 'Realtek Audio' (You may also install drivers from the manufacturer website: Realtek) > Recheck the results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

hello everyone:

i looked in on seven forums trying to find a fix for my driver problem, a lot of friends here were helpfull, i like to give back a little even if my pc is working fine now.

my pc is a desktop running windows 7 pro, motherboard esc a780gm-a, i had a problem with my hd audio driver, under my control panel audio device i only could see "no audio device installed" even when i installed it 10 times, i also saw on my right conner "no audio output installed"

i had a logitech camera installed.

the fix:
i found that my logitech camera was somehow in conflict with my audio device, it kep telling me "communication mic ???" something like that, well after uninstall the logitech camera software my audio came back and its now working perfect.

i hope this helps.

check if you have a camera with a built in mic, this might be your problem.

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:Audio USB Devices showing under Other Devices in Device Manager

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

It didn't work so i just tried downloading IDT audio again. Despite the fact i couldn't find it in my files, it was selected as audio driver, with a yellow triangle though. It still doesn't work.. Windows 7 64-bit I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor My audio is working, but I'm getting "popping" noises every 15-30 seconds and it's really bothering me. I updated to the latest driver for Realtek AC'97 and I insalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers, but only the AC'97 shows up in the device manager. When I got to add/remove programs, it shows that HD Audio can be uninstalled, but I don't know if that means it's working. From reading around on the internet, some people said the HD Audio driver solved their problem, but I'm not sure if mine is actually working or not. I don't know much about computers, so please spell things out explicitly for me so I can just follow directions.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 for a few years already.
A few weeks ago, out of the blue, my speakers wont work. Theres just no audio.
I can get audio only when I connect earphones.
I tried to uninstall the audio driver (Conexant smartaudio HD), and windows 7 automaticaly installs High Definition Audio Device. When I did that the speakers worked, but there was no sound when I connected the earphones. When I reinstall conexant it happens again - no sound from speakers, only from earphones.
Tried reinstalling several times, tried updating the driver, I even formatted my computer and nothing helped.

Please help me find a solution.

I installed XP sp2. I earlier had the same one and I used drivermax to store all the previously used drivers and imported them after re-installing XP.
But the problem is sound doesnt play. There is no volume icon on systray. I went to control panel -> sounds and audio devices. There in the "volume" tab, next to the speaker icon at the beginning it says " no audio device". And the two options below "device volume" and "speaker settings" are greyed out.

When I try to play it says: "Cannot play as theres a prob with ur sound device. There may not be a sound device installed, may be in use by another prog. or may not be functioning properly"

And the main thing is I have dual boot with Ubuntu and it works well.
Even before re-installing I had dual-boot and it worked ok.
Can someone please help me?
Thank you.

What is the Make and Model# of your computer?
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? if so, these devices need to have drivers installed. Go to the Manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site type in your make and model# of your computer and download the Audio driver for your computer. When you click it, it should Unzip to a file on your C: drive that it creates. Take note of what this file name is called. It should automatically start the install after finishing the unzipping. If not, in the Device Manager, right click the Audio driver with the yellow flag and Update Driver. Browse it to the folder the driver unzipped to and lead it to the .inf file to install the driver.

It isn't working anymore ever since I reformatted. I had this problem before and fixed it. But...I forgot where I got it from. I tried going to sony vaio's website and tried their tech (But they failed REALLY hard and made me have to RE-Format again after I already downloaded and had everything ready.

+ they said they didn't have the device I needed or was looking for.

I tried searching google after that but all I found were rand driver update progs that I would never try because I've heard a lot of bad things about them.

You guys are my last hope!

A:Solved: Audio driver

Never ever format the hard drive and do a fresh install of XP without first having the current drivers for the display adapter, sound device, network adapter(s), and chipset burned off to a CD-R. The install of XP rarely installs all the device drivers - as you've already found out.

Here is the XP driver download site for the Sony VAIO PCV-RS613G desktop.

All I see there that relates to sound is a MPEG encoder driver. I don't see a driver specifically for a sound device. The hardware specs section doesn't even list the sound device.

I'm trying to find the correct audio drivers for the onboard sound of an older computer.

IBM (or Lenovo..) Thinkcentre M52 8213 KUL

Pentium 4 640 Prescott 3.2 GHZ 2MB L2 Cache
512MB DDR2 Ram (266 mhz)
2 HD's one SATA one IDE totaling 100gb together
intel's onboard video chip and the audio I am unsure of..

I looked it up on the lenovo site and found out that it doesn't list the drivers for the onboard sound, and it doesn't tell you what soundcard it uses.

I force installed a Soundmax HD Audio driver, which gives audio. The problem is the audio jacks in the back, and front do not work (this computer has onboard speakers, which are really bad by the way). When I installed ubuntu... however... they do work.

These drivers won't install without going to have disc, and forcing it. I've tried hundreds of drivers to no avail. I uninstalled those drivers and here's what it says in the device manager: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus.

The motherboard in cpu-z says:

Chipset: Intel i945P/PL/G/GZ
Southbridge: Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R)

here is a link to the computer on the manu.'s page:

Thanks in advance for any help.. I'm losing my mind over these lousy drivers.

I just bought an Audio Technica turntable (Cakewalk software). I tried plugging my Dell speakers into the turntable, (the only "sound" the computer was showing was the right speaker with a slight level on the left speaker). I've checked all the connections to the computer and no luck.

Hello everyone.

I've had some flash sound problems for a week now, tried pretty much every possible solution and today I tried reinstalling audio drivers. Looks like I never should have done it.

I removed the old ones, downloaded latest ones for my audio card integrated in the motherboard (ASUS P5K) and installed. The drivers are on the computer, but nothing happens. I remove them and install the ones from the motherboard's CD. Then the real pain begins. The drivers won't install anymore. It just says that in bad grammar, Finnish in this case. OS is WinXP Pro.

A true finisher strike was me noticing the drivers on the CD and the latest ones I downloaded being the same drivers. I believe the soundcard integrated in the mobo is Realtek ALC883.

Can someone please tell me what is going on? This is driving me crazy

Last night, I'm watching the Colbert Report, and my computer starts rattling, so I lean in. Its the GPU. Third time with this card, the fan only lasts maybe 2 years tops. I turn it off, crack open the case, loosen the screws to give the fan more clearance, replace the card and the noise goes away. Actually, all noises went away. My computer could not detect any audio inputs!
I use headphones in the back and HDMI to a receiver, which both up until now worked perfectly. What's weird is that these channels are exclusive to the mobo and GPU, which means that this has to be a software problem or windows registry error. SO i reboot again. Now i have 8 driver problems, what the hell just happened?

ATI High definition Audio Device* (This device is occasionally listed as a AMD rather than ATI during re-detection post-uninstall)
High Definition Audio Device

So here's what I've tried...

System Restore - No change.

Safe mode Method 1: Boot Safe mode, uninstall drivers, install Realtek and ATI drivers for my Gateway FX6840 Mainboard and AMD Radeon HD 5770 GPU.
Method 2: Boot Safe, uninstall, wipe drivers with driver wiper, reboot into safe again, install downloaded drivers again.

No change.

Picture attached, please help, I'm normally pretty good, but this sounds like an upstream driver problem.

Hi, I am having some problems getting these drivers to install correctly on my newly set up computer.

The first one I had an issue with was the intel chipset driver (INFUpdate).

First it would pop up with a window saying "PCI Standard PCItoPCI Bridge" with an ok button to install it,
Then the next window would pop up saying "PCI Standard ISA Bridge" with an ok button to install it.

After clicking ok on the ISA bridge one, it comes up with the following error:
An unknown rror occurred.
Setup will now exit.

Not a very usefull error code eh?
The second Driver I had an issue with, was the Audio device drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver(2.96) R2.45).

After following the prompts to get the installer started, it looks as if it is going to work.
It opens up in full screen with the brand and everything on it, has the little installing bar going, while showing all of the file names it installs as it goes,
then a small window pops up over the installation progress bar, saying install sheild wizard installing, then it comes up with the following error:

Install sheild wizard installing
Error Loading Streamci
The Specified module could not be foundClick to expand...

Does anyone know what could be going wrong here, and how to fix the problem?

I make music with my computer and therefore the onboard sound card that came with my motherboard is disabled and I've installed a dedicated sound card instead. The soundcard I work with is an M-Audio Delta Series 2496 Audiophile PCI card. I've been using this card without problems for about 5 years.

Today the card seems to have stopped working and I suspect it has something to do with recent stuff I've been doing with my computer.

Here is stuff I did prior to my soundcard's failure to work. I have no idea which if any of these things are related to the problem or not. I also have know idea at what stage the sound stopped working.

- a friend came with an mp3 player (Creative ZEN Jukebox). He had some data on it (using it as a kind of external hard drive) which he wanted to transfer to my computer.

- I downloaded/installed the latest driver and plugged it (via USB) to my computer. The computer recognized the device, but for some odd reason it did not show all the data. We tried several things including re-downloading and re-installing the driver and installing a media player app by Creative but nothing worked. I uninstalled the driver and the Creative app.

(at this stage I remember my audio was fine, because I listened to some music. This was the last time I attempted to use audio before first noticing the problem)

Hello, my name is steven and I would like to begin by saying that I am an amateur when it comes to working with computers. I wanted to free up space to operate my computer faster and hopefully stop lagging while playing games or just browsing for that matter and it seems the only certain amount of RAM to add to increase my speed is the lowest that is sold @ kingston technology which is a 1GB card. Unfortunately, being the amateur I am, I was stumped here , where they ask for my manufacturer, product line, and model. I plugged in all the numbers I could think of that might work for each but nothing matched when it came to the model # and I personally have no clue what my product line is so as I said I was just guessing I have all the information about my computer (from what I believe to be the complete transcript of it) and I just need to be able to answer the questions on kingston technologie's website so I can get my recommended RAM card that will hopefully be compatible with my computer. Nothing about product line is stated and the manufacturer of the cpu is unclear and so I would like help identifying the answers to the three questions posed on kingston technologies website.

Hey All,

Got a cool new sound card for Xmas (ASUS Xonar D2) which I installed promptly. Works like a charm.

However, when i boot the computer I get a message saying that SoundMax needs to be reinstalled. So I downloaded it, and attempted an install. The install instructed me to remove the old one first. I hate not being able to uninstall wrong is that?

.....and following on from my earlier problems with 'Error message 0x00000077B' (12 March 11.17) I am still rebuilding the old XP OS on a new ASUS P8 Z77-V-LX M/B. It's brought up some interesting intergenerational issues.
The latest one with no get-around I can find yet, involves the on board Realtek ALC887 8Ch HD audio driver.
This is loaded from the m/b CD with no fuss, but in the device hardware manager it shows with a yellow question mark and the dialogue says that the driver is not loaded, consequently, on start up I get asked to fix the hardware problem every time.

I've disabled the hardware.
If I attempt o load the driver, I get the blue screen of death and a long explanation as to why Bill Gates has just saved my life.

I have just noticed that, on the Realtek site that the driver for the ALC887 is for Vista and above, which answers my first question. The motherboard/OS are not compatible, BUT TechSupport Guy will have a workaround, Yes??

A:Solved: Audio Driver will not load

Have you tried the Asus download site for your motherboard to see if an XP friendly version of the driver exists on that site?

I hate to say this, because it's so hit and miss, but, if you can't find an XP driver for your m/b sound, you may have some luck with Iobit DriverBooster or one of the others like DriverMax. I have DriverMax, and it is a sort of an annoying program in that it is constantly being upgraded and will not run unless the upgrade is applied. This means uninstalling the program and then installing the updated version . Also, it will only allow non paying users to upgrade 2 drivers a day. Last time I checked the Iobit installer was a mine field, laced with all kinds of extra programs that will install unless you are able to determine how to uncheck them. Still, when you just need one driver, maybe this is the answer for you.

I have accidentally started the process of uninstalling the audio driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio) from my laptop.

The volume icon had disappeared from the taskbar and when I tried to 'place the icon in the taskbar' in Sound and Audio Devices Properties I got the error message:
'Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Contol program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.'

I went to Add/Remove Programs but obviously did something wrong.

When I click on 'Update Driver' in Realtek AC'97 Audio Properties I get the message:
'You cannot update the driver for this device at this time because it is in the process of being removed. You must restart your computer before the new setting will take effect.'
I get the same message when I click on 'Roll Back Driver'

I think the problem occured when I included some Windows compents when I used Disk Cleanup to free some disk space a few days ago.

Is there anything I can do to reverse or prevent the process from completing before I switch the laptop off?

If not, what's the best way to re install the driver?

LAPTOP: Acer Aspire 3613WLMi
