File path error/ Cannot find file directory/file itself

Q: File path error/ Cannot find file directory/file itself

Hello everyone,

Firstly I would like to say that this seems like a swell enough forum as is and I am frankly out of ideas. About a year ago I had backed up a rather large series of files under one name for my roommate who was in the process of doing some "spring cleaning" on his computer. Fast forward to now and he is out of Hard-drive space damn near and has been unable to find the reserve file himself. Below is the directory under which I named and saved the around 200gb file of games and old-ROTC documents. Regardless the file needs to be found and even after un-hiding all files from the control panel, I have yet been able to locate it. It would seem to be simple enough, one would think that you could see the file name sitting above Program Files but it is not. Any one have any ideas, we would rather not have to reformat/ system restore if we can avoid it.

C:\common_ORIGINAL NEW FAGS

A: File path error/ Cannot find file directory/file itself

I used a software called TreeSize which shows the size of all folders on the disk. Thinking that the Windows OS is around 18gb, a 200gb files should really stick out with TreeSize.

Okay guys, I've searched for a few months now, and can't figure out this problem, so I "Googled" this site and hoping to get an answer and proper solution to my question.

So, I receive this error whenever I run batch (.bat) files:

Quote:

Windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and Settings\Singh\Desktop\EHF-Gaming Source+Client\EHF-Gaming client\EHF-Gaming Client v1\RunEHF-Gaming Client.bat'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

I posted this on Yahoo as well:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...2223851AAnp01Q

Solutions I've Tried:
~Registry Cleaning With "RegistryEasy"
~I know I didn't type in anything wrong, because I've tried this with other batch files as well, but still not working.

I've asked just too many people and too many times, but still no solution.

Any help?

A:Windows Cannot Find (File Path) Error?

Where are you typing it?
As the path contains spaces, are you enclosing the entire line in Double Quotes?
Why not just double click the batch file to run it?

I cannot copy or paste jpeg files from my computer to my SD 2GB cards. Also, I get this msg when I try to print jpeg files. Using Adobe Elements I am able to archive these files. Oddly enough I can attach and send these jpeg files via email. Prior to August '08 was able to do these tasks without a problem. I suspect that there is a software compatibility problem since this problem came on suddenly (maybe iTunes?). No problems importing jpeg files from SD cards. I've looked at several sites on the internet but none seem to have the right solution for my problem. THANKS for any help that you can provide! -Stu

A:Error copying file or folder; cannot copy img the directory or file cannot be created

This has caught me more than once.

The problem is a limitation on the number of files and folders allowed in the root folder of a FAT16 file system (as for a memory card) of 512. (Note, this number is reduced much further if longer file names than 8 characters are used, as most people will want to).

When transferring the files onto the card, new files will be rejected when you hit this limit.

So keep your files in separate folders, so they are not all in the root folder.

For files and folders in root it might be worth keeping your filenames under 8 characters in length so you can use the full 512 files on root folder.

I realize there are many posts on this issue. When I click a Word 2007 document in Windows Explorer, I get the message "Windows cannot open the file (path\name) make sure...etc." Word opens but file does not. With Word open, clicking brings up another instance of Word (without file) and same error. Same as other posts on this issue. Issue does not occur with any other files (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Acrobat, etc.) Happens with only Word extensions (docx, etc.) If I open Word and open the file from inside Word, all is fine.

I tried saving documents in different Word extensions, saving to different locations, but still get the error--only when opening directly from Explorer or Desktop. I have repaired Office 2007 (Ultimate Version), uninstalled Word, reinstalled Word; tried the registry fix posted here and MS site (removing Data reg entry under Word). Used tool posted here to unassociate/reassociate .docs with Word. I reimaged my hard drive using an image from two weeks ago, but apparently it started before that, because I still get the same error. I reset my index and waited for it to regenerate. I'm sure there might be other solutions I've tried, but these are the ones that come to mind.

It is a three-week-old Dell 1545 laptop, 64-bit Vista. Not impossible to live with, but has me stumped. According to all the posts in networld and here, fairly common problem that seems to have no single solution.

If anyone knows of new tips, I'd sure appreciate it.

A:Windows cannot find file path\file name when opening from Windows Explorer

Error is "cannot find (path\name)...before someone yells. Also, thorough scan for malicious software, trojans, etc. Do not have BSPlayer, whatever that is. Also, if I search for the document in the menu, I can't open it from there either.

The answer I found on MS's technet doesn't match my problem - It claims that this error happens when installing Project before Outlook. There is no Project installed on this computer. It runs OO for everything except Outlook, which allows users to get to our Exchange server.

Here's the really insane thing: 3 users have this error happen. 3 users are able to access outlook just fine. (I've personally tested and observed this behavior.)

Since my google-fu failed me and MS has been less than helpful, I turn to the vast knowledge of BC's users in the hopes that someone else has seen an error like this.

I visited the following page in this forum, but it shows the file path to where favicons are stored when Internet Explorer is used.

What is the file path for the folder where favicons are stored, when Firefox is used to create them?

A:Favicons: I Need To Find The File Path

There's no "cache" for Favicons. They are saved directly in the places.sqlite file, in your Profile folder, with your bookmarks and browser history.

Source: Bookmarks don't show all favicons

First go to Hidden Files and Folders - Show or Hide; You want to show, follow Option One, Steps one and two.

Then go to
Code:
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Click on your profile, it should look something like this: 6boqw0lk.default-120653523721 it will be the only folder below Profiles, click on it.
Scroll down until you see places.sqlite, click on it. A box will open asking you what program you would like to open this file with, notepad is acceptable.

Uncheck the box, click on OK. Wait for the file to open, mine is over 10MB, took a minute.
The majority of what you see will be in programming language, but you can see the links to your saved bookmarks.
There are also bookmarkbackups located at:
Code:
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Your Profile\bookmarkbackups
and it will be a sub-folder in your profile.

It is more difficult to open because it is a JSONLZ4 file, but there is a third-party program from FileInfo.com that may work to open them: File Viewer Lite
I tried to scan it with VirusTotal, but the que was taking too long so here are the results from a day ago: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/5...49bb/analysis/

Hello, could somebody please help me?

So background story here: I have a SSD for boot and applications, and a HDD for storage. I recently changed my "Location" for Pictures, Movies, Documents, and also Downloads. I changed the "Locations" to my 1TB HDD. I did not make a junction, I just created a letter drive for my HDD. I am now trying to solve two problems here now, as this one just developed....

Cannot open file "C:\Users\Username~1\AppData\Local\Temp\7zOAA82.tmp\resource\background\BG.png".The system cannot find the path specified.

The file I am trying to download is the ASUS BIOS Updater. The reason for this is because I am attempting to figure out why my games are smooth as butter, but video playback on Youtube and even my home made videos are choppy on VLC, and I read that updating the BIOS may be a solution. But that is not why I am here, however, if you can also help me with that, I would greatly appreciate it.

1.) Could you help me with this path specified nonsense? Did I mess anything up?
2.) I just completed my PC build yesterday, I don't mind doing a massive wipe to start from scratch to fix this.

Computer Specs if you must see:
Intel i7 4770k CPU
Nvidia EVGA Geforce GTX770
ASUS Z87-A Motherboard
G-Skill Ripjaws 2x4 RAM
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB HDD

If anyone could help me and possibly chat with me, I can use AIM.

A:Cannot Open File...The system cannot find the path specified

I seriously doubt you bios is the problem with watching YouTube.
I recommend leaving your bios alone.

I don't use VLC but that would be the first place I would look for the problems.

There's a free Windows scripting language called Autoit3 that would do this task easily using these functons:

It has a Basic like syntax and is easy to learn.

Another popular scripting for Windows is AutoHotkey

The syntax can be confusing but it has object support and is more powerful.

Of course there are tons of others for Windows:

Python
Perl

I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in: http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed, no? Or is there a way out somehow?

Thanks to anyone who's been there and can help...

BTW I have the XP installation disk that came with, and a diagnostics disk which I have not yet run.

Never mind, I had it wrong--didn't read the document referred to above carefully enough. The procedure worked like a charm, and the document is very easy to read and entertaining to boot! (pun intended).

The document describes a procedure that closely follows a Microsoft KB document (which I now can't find) but does not contain any warning regarding whether the OS is an OEM (original equipment manufacture) install or not. The Microsoft doc says not to use the procedure on an OEM-installed OS, but I just did it on my Dell, so that warning seems to be incorrect.

Many many thanks for the help provided by this document and this site.

Hmm; Normally any backup software would do this for you.

If you had a secondary copy (say other media to which you did a copy), then this would be a snap.

It sounds as if you only have the original media and you need to recover "whatever is possible".

There are many files of the same name on the computer and I need to identify the problem one specifically in order to repair it, i.e., I need the full path. I expect that the prefix [l:32{16}] does identify the specific file, but I have not been able to find out how to use it to get the full path. The Microsoft information that I have found on the utility does not give any help on this. I would appreciate it if someone would enlighten me.

Hello everybody -

If the User Information for Office 2010 ( HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\UserInfo ) equals
the local admin default "UserInfo"

then

go to ldap/active directory and, using the client's "logon name", find the client in ldap and use their "Display Name" as the value for the String "UserName" in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\UserInfo

I found this bit of code to get me started... but this code doesn't "call out to active directory"

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\UserInfo /v UserName /d %username% /f

I have a network directory that stores photos of individuals in jpg format. There may be only 2 pics of each person, or there may be 7 pics.
Each persons pics are stored in a randomly named directory / subdirectory. dont have any control over the original program, it's just the way it was written, does not seem to follow any logical pattern, possibly a HEX naming structure based off the date & time, who knows (I will include a sample directory tree at the end of the post).
Included within each of these created directories, along with the pictures, is a standard text file (filename "B.TXT") which includes the date the picture was taken, the persons name, and other information.
Each time a person comes in and their picture is taken, the program: (i) creates the random directory (ii) stores the pics (iii) creates the "B.TXT" file with the persons information (iv) generates several other program specific files that I have no need for.
The program names each of the pictures with the exact same names, which is why they are stored in different directories, so they will not overwrite. The retention period on each individuals directory, pics and files is approximately 40 days.

I want to periodically make a backup list of all files and directories on my two hard drives and save them to a text file.

I attempted to do this via this command line entry:

dir /b "C:\My Path" > myFiles.txt
And just FYI to everyone, that will not work without CMD.exe being run as an administrator.

But the problem is that the file list will only save for the files in that ONE directory. If you use "C:" in place of "C:\My Path" it just saves a list of files in the root directory only.

I want a log of the ENTIRE hard drive, and then also another hard drive, too
If there is a software that does this reliably, that would be fine, but if anyone is knowledgeable about how
to do it from the command line, then that would be great too.

Thanks for the help

I am trying to move a large batch of files from one folder to another on a WD "My Book" 500GB external drive and an error message keeps appearing saying the following: [Window title]: "Error moving File or Folder", [Message]: "Cannot move <filename> The directory or file cannot be created."
It seems as though I've reached a limit. Folder 1 had 29438 files in it. I tried moving all of those files into Folder 2 on the same drive (which has plenty of free space). Folder 2 accepted 22516 of those files at which point I received the error message. No further files can be added to Folder 2.

If you use long file names for the files and folders (over 8 characters for the file name and 3 for the extension) then the number of files and folders available per folder will be reduced on the FAT16 and FAT32 file systems.

If you need to put more files and folders in a single folder you'll need to convert the drive to NTFS. "

Not certain if that will help, what format is the drive?

Hello,
I am getting the following error when moving files on the same drive or from one to another:

"Error Moving File or Folder
Cannot remove folder (insert folder name here): The directory is not empty."

This is fairly common (once or twice a month) and it occurs usually with folders containing many subfolders when being moved by explorer gui "Move the selected items", or ctrl-x, ctrl-v . Repeated attempts through the same process seems to move the folders, but the errors increase as the concentration of stubborn folders increases.

There are no event viewer logs corresponding to these errors. (eventvwr.msc: system, or application)

I would have thought this would be a common problem, but extensive searches came up with nothing... so either it is rare, untroubling to others, extremely easy to fix, or my search queries suck. =)
I am going to run Checkdisk to make sure all is well there, and I will repost the likely failure.

A:"Error moving file or folder" "directory is not empty" one file left

Occasionally when I am deleting a file, it is difficult, I have to go through process explorer, search for the thread that is strangely(?) associated with that file in explorer (no reasonable dependencies could be linked, nor is the file being viewed), and kill the thread before deletion.

any thoughts?

Thanks =)

Well just updated windows to find I now get this error message when loading up windows;

Could not load file or assembly 'sorttbls.nlp' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find this specified File.

Now this is coming form ATI Catalyst, I know so cause the error message has the new CCC logo. Now what stinks is its apparently something wrong with Microsoft NET, yet I have googled the problem and tried many fixes but with no avail. Right now I am pretty
mad cause I have CCC which wont work anymore, Zune, and also my windows is freaking out. Now I have spent the last hour trying to fix this dang issue and need help as I am stuck... Please help, ANY help at all is much appreciated.
Also this was after I had to restore my system because the new Microsoft updated screwed up my system...

A:Could not load file or assembly 'sorttbls.nlp' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find this specified File.

Hi,

I've searched the sorttbls.nlp file in my computer, and find that this file should be a component of the .NET Framework 2.

Also I find some information in the AMD support website:

• The AMD Catalyst™ Control Center requires that the Microsoft® .NET Framework SP1 be installed for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Without .NET SP1 installed, the AMD Catalyst™ Control Center will not launch properly and the user will see an error message.
• When installing the AMD Catalyst™ driver for Windows operating system, the user must be logged on as Administrator or have Administrator rights to complete the installation of the AMD Catalyst™ driver.

Please refer:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst112ReleaseNotes.aspx

You can try the steps below to resolve this problem.
Firstly, please go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program -> Turn Windows features on or off,

• If the checkbox of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 is not been selected, then select it and click OK.
• If the checkbox of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 is been selected, unselect the checkbox first, click OK. Then open the Turn Windows features on or off again and select Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1, click OK.
Then, please try to install the AMD Catalyst™ Control Center again.
If the above steps still not working, please perform the steps in this blog to fix the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows 7:

This morning I was having laptop issues, so I had to open up my Outlook on my desktop. After my laptop came back to life, I exported my inbox only from my desktop to my laptop via travel drive, so I could see all my new messages.

Tonight when trying to do my normal export to my ext hard drive for back up, I'm getting the error "The path specified for the file F:\laptopbackup.pst is not valid."

I opened my hard drive and reinstalled the s/w, thinking maybe that was the problem, but it wasn't.

Can someone please help me? I really need to do my backup!

Hello everyone,
I am having a problem with my computer atm and will give you the story.
I have a 1 tb HD, installing a fresh install of Windows 7 using an upgrade disc and a very helpful tutorial, since I was unable to install it on the whole drive I had to partition it to a 50gig and the rest as a second drive named Z:\

A week ago the 50GB had filled up so I went about removing some files and wondered why some of my C:\ Users \ May name folders and files were seeming to appear on both my drives when I changed the initial location of all images/music/etc folders to Z:\
I thought if I moved the appdata which was some 10 gigs alone and went about changing the location to the Z:\ with no apparent issue.

A couple of days ago I went to bed with my computer on and woke up with it as if it had shutdown and restarted, I logged in and assumed it was an update thought if this was the case I'd get a popup saying it had updated. I got nothing, so I ran Avast and Malware bytes to see if it was a virus, nothing.

Then I noticed my local area connection icon is stuck with a permanent X on it, even thought I am connecting fine. Now this is the problem..if I click on a program it will open fine do the Admin privlidges thing which I say yes to and its ok. But if I try to open anything like My name/Documents/Pictures/ Music or anything to the right of the start menu I get this error:

Hi guys,

Last time I was here, I had major problems with my desktop computer following a case of the BSoD. Since then, I've got a new computer & everything's been going well until today.

I've been going on websites on firefox then suddenly, I'd get this come up:

I *know* the sites ARE available (tumblr, for instance) - checked on IE & it's fine. Could it be spyware that's doing this? There's no redirect URL or anything like that.

If you could help me to stop worrying, I would be most grateful! I don't want this one dying on me too!

A:Error:The directory or file cannot be created.?

I think there is a limit to the number of files you can copy to the root. You can only have so many that are not in folders

Try this and see if it works
Make some folders on your desktop name them what you want. E.g. ?Pictures 1?, ?Pictures 2? etc

Then "move" or "cut" not copy all the photos from the card into the folders on the desktop.

Once all the photos are in the folders on the desktop, cut the folders off the desktop and paste back onto the card.

Files in a folder count as 1 file in the Root directory even if it has many files.

Hello,

I've read through many posts here and on other sites as to the problem that may be causing this error I've been receiving:

My system is Windows Vista Business 32-bit SP-1. I had a nasty virus which I scanned with AVG (full purchased protection) and Malwarebytes. I have a sneaking suspicion that there are remnants of that virus still lurking, and/or there may have been fles that were deleted/quarantined that may be vital to my system.

It should be noted that I do not receive that error when trying to access all files. It's very inconsistent. I can access most of my Control Panel, but not themes or display settings. I also have an external monitor that will not display different screens, it will only mirror or run as the primary screen, even when I choose 'Display different screen' option. Any suggestions here would be appreciated but I think this is so bizzare or deep into Windows that I'm not expecting any. I am developing a scheduled task that will run every morning unattended. The script starts Excel and specifies a workbook to open. The 'workbook_open' event runs and when finished, starts another batch file (via Shell(batFile, 1) and shuts down Excel. The 'batFile' starts Access and specifies the database to open. The database runs an AutoExec function and then shuts Access down. This sequence runs fours times for four separate databases. Here's the problem:

When the scheduled task runs under my account, everything works fine. However, when we change the scheduled task to run under the System Administrators account (we have to do this for reasons not important here), the Excel/Access sequence for one, and only one, of the databases does not run. I have isolated the problem to the 'Start' commands for both Excel and Access. What appears to be happenng is that for the Excel 'Start', Excel starts but the 'specified' workbook is not opened, hence Excel just sits there as an open process not doing anything. When I changed the name of the 'specified' workbook, the Excel 'Start' works okay, opening up the renamed workbook. The same thing happens with the Access 'Start' command. Access starts but the 'specified' database does not open, hence Access just sits there ... Read more

On my XP backup batch file, I am doing a comparison of the total files in the source and target directories to confirm they are the same (and consequently everything backed up ok). What I am trying to do is display the final file total line, excluding all of the other file total lines of the individual folders. Additionally, I want to exclude system files from the total, as I am not backing them up.

I am using "dir /s /a-s d:\*.* | find "File(s)"

This give me the total lines of all folders in addition to the final total files and bytes which is the only line I want.

I have used attrib with find /c /v "", which works, however I cannot find a switch with attrib that will exclude system files.

Any ideas?

I am copying (drop & drag) a large number of .mp3 files (650gb) from a laptop to a "new" 2tb external hdd. After a certain point (varies), I start receiving the error code "0x80070052 Directory of File cannot be created" and it will not allow me to copy that file to the hdd into that particular folder. From what I've read, this issue is typically related to the HDD format, but this one is a Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 and is formatted FAT32. I've been able to finish copying the files over to the HDD, but it required me to create a several new folders.... it will copy some more files, but after a period of time will interrupt the process again with the same error message. I am now trying to consolidate the .mp3 files that exist on the 2tb HDD into a single folder, but the error code continues to keep me from finishing. I ran a registry cleaner and completed the disk error utility located under properties/tools, but no issues were found.

The fact is, drives fail. A backup is simply supposed to be a second copy of your important data, not the only place you store your data.

Hello TSG Forum:

I am using Norton AV on Win 2K. An incoming email set off the AV this morning, and it said that there was a virus on my computer. In the activity log it says:

The file
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\NAV23.tmp
is infected with the [email protected]!enc virus.
Unable to repair this file.
Access to the file was denied.

But, when I go to this directory C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp I can't see any file in there called NAV23.tmp (I have switched on 'show hidden files'.) Also, if I do a scan of that folder (or the entire hard-drive) it comes back virus free. My questions are:

1. Why can I not find the file NAV23.tmp on my computer since the AV says it is infected with a virus.

2. What is going on here? Does the virus copy itself to some other file and delete the NAV23.tmp? Why does the AV scan say computer is virus free? Is something else going on I should know about?

Thanks.

I am using windows 7 with office 2010.

I am trying to use the text in an adjacent cell, a movie title, search a folder to find a shortcut to that movie title, and have it appear next to the title. I have been searching using Google, using small precise search terms such as "excel macro file" or "excel macro search for file". I have gotten kind of close to what I'm looking for, but not quite there.

Hopefully the code below will give the reader of this post a better idea of what I'm trying to do. I was initially thinking a search routine, but then realized that the path was always the same (all of these shortcuts are in the same folder), so why not just copy the text from the adjacent cell and "build" my own link. That's what the following routine does and it does work ... provided all the movies are the same format, i.e., .wmv, .avi, .mkv, etc., which they are not. As a result the only two choices I have would be to convert all the movies to the same format, which would take for ever, or use a search routine, which I haven't mastered, and where I need some help.
Here is the build your own link routine:

My friends
Every few moments I have several pop ups occur which all started at the same time and seem to be interconnected. I have the C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe, MSI, a path/file error 75, and a vcs_web file constantly prompt me to RE-install Microsoft Visual Studio which i have done several times and the problem still persists. Since all these pop-ups have occurred my Firefox always say the Program needs to close, and my internet explorer doesnt seem to work either.
I spoke to Dell, but the guy didnt seem knowledgable, he said I NEED microsoft visual studio, but i dont see how that will help my situation since the vcs_web file always asks me to install the Microsoft Visual Studio Express and after I install it the notes say it was a successful installation, but a few moments later it asks me to install it again.
I have done a registry, MCAFEE, and dell PC scan and nothing has solved the issue. I even tried a system restore and i noticed my restore points are only 2 days old which is after the problem started, so it wont help. Any intelligent suggestions?

"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:

Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]Run from the Administrator user accountInstall in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexecUsing the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file....Verify that you have access to that directory

I had tried a clean boot [disabling all non-MS services] but had the same problem.
In the end, I contacted Microsoft support who took remote control of the PC and reset permissions etc with "Repair Windows" from tweaking.com. Whole process took a few hours.
Cost me 65, but worth it to save my remaining hair!
Software then installed okay.

HI ALL!

My OS is win2000 and i am getting the error message:" error writing temporary file..check to see if temporary directory is valid" whenever i attempt to open a new setup file. I can download new programs but can't open them afterwards. I suspect corrupt windows files but when looking for "System File Checker" on my pc, I discovered it isn't a default package in windows 2000 and needs to be installed off of the windows 2000 Pro disk. I attempted to install the system tools off of the disk as described by the readme documents on the win2000 pro disk and i couldn't install it because I received the same error message cited above. I then thought i would deceive my pc by downloading windows installer 2.0 from the Microsoft website by opening the file rather than saving and installing which I knew i wouldnt be able to do and got the message "file already exists". I am at a complete loss as to what to do next. All help is appreciated.

Thanks, PCSleuth

A:error writing to temporary file..check to see if temp directory is valid

things to check

Do you actually have the rights to install ? Unless you have admin rights, you cannot.

Do you have a temporary directory? That is usually c:\windows\temp (I prefer c:\temp myself), and this is defined in your systems 'temp' and possibly also 'tmp' environmental variable (look for system properties/environment variables).

Not every installer uses these settings - crappy sofware might do all sorts of odd, non-standard things. In other words, expects to be able to create a directory anywhere it likes. In this case, you would need admin rights to the whole machine, and not have certain directories marked read-only. Can't help on crappy software....but the inability to install an OS add-on points most towards the first problem I mentioned.

A:ERROR MESSAGE:cannot remove folder, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

Although some drive manufactures and BIOS provided so-called "low level format utilities", they actually perform a write-read verify of the drive's user data sectors, and do not actually perform a low-level format. SimpleTech does not provide such utility. In the event of a corrupted master boot record or boot block virus, use FDISK /MBR command to restore the master boot record. But be careful not to do it to your hard drive.

I have a Windows 7 driver installation question that has been nagging me for awhile. I now turn to the forums for help.

If I try to install a driver and not all of the driver files are present, I will get the error message "The system cannot find the file specified." But the problem is that it doesn't actually tell me what file it can't find. There is a large empty space right underneath the error, as if something should be in that spot, but the file name is not listed there.
(The above example is if you were to update the driver manually. Like if you were to click 'Update Driver', then 'Browse my computer for driver software', then 'Browse' to the directory with the INF file in it, and then click 'Next'.)

In Windows XP, if you received the same error, it would show you the name of the missing file.

My question is this... Is there a way to make Windows 7 display the actual file name it cannot find, like it did in Windows XP?

** Note - I am not looking for help installing drivers, or for alternative means of installing drivers. The above picture is just an example, it's not a driver I am having problems with. I just want to know if it's possible to figure out the missing file name.

A:Which File? (The system cannot find the file specified)

What driver are you trying to update and for what reason? Most of us download the drivers directly from the vendors website.

A:Windows 7 64bit unable to file missing file in Hijackthis log file

It's doubtful those files are missing. More likely a bug still present in HijackThis where it cannot correctly enumerate some entries, so it gives a (file missing).

I would not put any faith in online analyzers such as that one. Much better to use these online databases

There's nothing wrong with any of those entries. Please leave them alone.

Hi guys don't really know where to put this because I don't know what is causing it.  I was infected with cryptolocker and the 4 files can still be found in just about every folder on the computer however the infection is no longer active?  I don't get the messages anymore when I reboot/log in.

After the infection was removed everything seemed fine.  That was a couple months ago. Last night I needed a picture and I went back to get it and found out all my thumbnails are gone (they show the place holder and file name but not the picture) and the pics wont open on an entire hard drive and scattered throughout the computer.  (I localize most pics on one drive) The video files are ok though.  I have been searching the web and downloaded data repair (stellarphoenix).  Tried photo shop because I read that it would open files with bad headers.  Tried gimp.  Tried my linux box.  When I look on the network linux cannot even see the files.  Tried the following command at C: assoc .jpeg=jpegfile and get access denied error occurred while processing jpeg.

In some folders half the files are there and half are not.  I originally noticed when I clicked on the image and got this message.  "windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted or is too large.

AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition (avgas-setup-7.5.1.43.exe)
No other anti-virus software installed prior to problem.

Yesterday, my AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition stopped working. When I try to run the program I get a message saying some files are missing. I tried to "repair" it using the installer file but it didn't work. So I uninstalled it and tried to re-install the progarm. However I got this message

I uninstalled AVG Anti-Spyware without seeing if it was working or not. Now I can re-install it either

Hey all, this error message started appearing after I booted my laptop up after it had sat for almost 6 months. I do not remember what I had installed on my computer before I didn't touch it for 6 months, and I am not entirely sure how long I have put up with the error message before I decided to try this forum. I have tried to figure out what the file is, and none of my friends who are handy with a computer know what it is. The error message reads "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\ewizicifaquza.dll The specified module could not be found." when I put the file name in google, google doesn't come up with anything, it says that the file matches nothing.

I am running Windows XP Professional edition. This error occurs at start-up, every time I boot up my computer. I would assume that this is a module found under the svchost files, but I cannot be sure. I want to know what the file is, and I want to know what it is supposed to do. I am so confused. Thanks for your time.

A:Unknown File Error - Google doesn't recognise this file name

Hello,Such messages are common after the removal of malware files. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.Orange Blossom

In Windows 8.1, when I try to use the native ISO mounting function, either from the right-click menu, or by double clicking the iso file, I am getting the error:

Code:
Couldn't Mount File
Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file.

Yet most of the time, the virtual CD/DVD drive appears as it should!

Does anyone know cause/effects/prevention of this?

I've got Excel 2000. (Win98)
The PC froze / hung-up while in excel. Could only power off to restart.
Now when you access the file you get a message that the "file is in use" and can only be opened in read only mode.

"When you open a file that is in use, you'll get a message that tells you the file must be opened in read-only mode. In some cases, you may get this message even though the file is definitely not in use. This can be caused by an Excel crash, in which the file was not released."

The file was being accessed on another PC via a basic household network.
Our work around at present was to access the file in Read-only mode and save it as a new file. The old file still exists. I can't delete it as I get the same file in use message.

But, I'm still working on the older file to see if I can unlock it some how.
Tried the following:
1) Check/deleted temp files on the editing PC.
2) Checked the file attributes on the file (Note: the file did not have the "Read-only" attribute ticked)
3) Now checking the source PC for temp files.

Any direction greatly appreciated.

A:Error caused excel file to file in Use and read-only

Save yourself some time.
Open the old file.
Right-click a sheet tab and hit Select all sheets.
Right-click again and hit Move or Copy.
Choose the create a copy box, and from the dropdown, choose New book.
Save the new book. Make sure all is well. Delete the old book.

Hello everyone:

Please someone -- can anyone help -- I have noticed a problem on one of my computers, which uses Office 2007, that when i attempt to do anything on my virtual machine (which uses Office 2003) within excel, invariably the file gets corrupted. I am not sure why this happens, because it doesn't always happen right away. However, after creating a file on my VM and then it gets saved on my regular machine, either after a few sessions or immediately, i get the error "file format not valid". I have spent over two weeks on this file (yes, using it everyday and saving/opening with no problem up until yesterday) and it has a lot of critical, non-sensitive data. I have tried calling my helpdesk (they were of no help), tried saving the file as *.xlsx, tried opening in word and wordpad (I could see some data -- but not all the critical data was there). PLEASE -- I have already bought one of those Recovery tools (which didn't get even 50%, or at least the critical updates i made yesterday). I can't afford to spend more -- is there anyone who would be willing to help a lost soul get this data back??? I have attached the file

echo.binary
echo.get Some_file_to_download.txt

A:when open a word file or pwrpnt file another file is opens

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I saw your post right after you made it but I did not post a reply because:
1) Real life got in the way
2) I'm not sure that I understand your issue.
I'm not picking at your English, but this is important:

Your post mentioned, "another file is opens with that".

I'm guessing that you meant:
...another file is opened with that
or
...another file opens with that

Either way, the word open is really important to the description of your problem.

Let's just talk about Word for now.

When you open a Word, one or more temporary files may be created. This is normal and desired; but those temp file(s) should not automatically open in Word.

Please try this:
Close all copies of Word.
Open Windows (file) Explorer.
Double click on an existing Word document.

How many windows do you have open for the Word program?
(Hopefully, just one.)

How many files do you have open in the Word program?
(Hopefully, just one.)

Are you seeing this file that bothers when you look at Word or when you look at Windows (file) Explorer?

Please show us what you see and where you see it.
Here is a link with instructions about posting screenshots to this forum:

Your post mentioned, "(with a infinity sign in the front with the same extension )"
The temporary file(s) that Word might create should start with a Tilde character and then the dollar sign (~$), not the symbol for infinity. And Notepad s... Read more

Every now and then, when I try opening an Excel file, I get a message saying that "Excel cannot open the file 'file.xlsx' because the file format or the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
