hi guys,
my computer seems to be running really slow, have recently installed tiscali for broadband, it works but sometimes goes slow and sometimes when i try and click on options on various websites it will select a totally different thing. it seems as though something is running in the background - when on blank desktop, even when no programs open and not connected to internet the mouse pointer has an egg timer next to it...

i've installed zone alarm, ezvirus, ad aware, spybot and spyblaster to try and combat this however it is still running slow.

any ideas?
thanks, Jennie

I even connected it through an Ethernet cable and nothing happened. I clicked on the troubleshoot link and windows network diagnostics and it says to Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. I tried to reinstall the operating system and nothing change. Not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

Just got back from Japan to find out my laptop is running strangely. I left it with my sister and also let my mother use it while I was gone. I can only imagine what they were doing with it. I hope nothing irreversable. I seems to take forever for the system to browse the My Computer folders. Some applications were not running properly. I had to reinstall Norton Internet Security since it wouldn't let me scan for viruses. The system was also locking up when trying to use bitlord. I removed that program also. The computer is still running much slower than normal and could have other corrupt programs that I have not checked. Please, somebody help me out!

Hi all,
I recently got some errors that caused the PC to restart, I uninstalled avast and installed bitdefender and it worked fine. After a few days however, it started to run really slow, mostly when I play games. The FPS I had in games dropped by half (LoL-60 to 30). Also the game often crashes in the middle. I also noticed that the processor speed sometimes gets stuck at around 1,15 and doesnt go higher if that could be the problem. I have a MSI laptop.
Any help appreciated...

I had to use smitfraud fix and Removal, with another program called rogue remover. After all of this I used CCleaner to clean up and fix regeistry. Now I've noticed the notebook is slower than normal and when booting up, it always tries to load this internet site which is a false windows update that promptly gets blocked.I also updated to Service Pack 3 this morning. As always, I appreciate the help you all contribute.
I also didn't mention that this is a Dual Core Acer with a 1gb ram, running XP. That's the only reason I knew something was still wrong at first, because it slowed to a crawl at times and the cpu usage was up high.

Hello, I just bought an ASUS K60IJ today running 64-bit 7. I have another laptop running Vista. My problem is: the download speed and browsing (via wireless) on the new ASUS system is much slower than it is for my other laptop running Vista on the wireless. The difference is a download speed of 0.56megabits/second to 9.65megabits/second, respectively.

The first thing I tried to do was update the drivers for my ATHEROS AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter, listed in Device Manager. I went to the ATHEROS website, and they do not even show any drivers for Windows 7 network adapters. Additionally, I tried the support download page at ASUS, entered in all my system info, and none of the 6 suggested drivers listed under "wireless" were for an Atheros card.

My question is: Is there an updated driver for Windows 7 for the Atheros wireless adapter that I should be able to download? If not, can you think of any reason why I'd have such a discrepancy in internet? Thank you!

Verify first that you are connected to the proper wireless network in the Network and Sharing Center, you could be connected to the wrong wireless network.

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer. I am The Dark Knight and will be assisting you. Please ask questions if anything is unclear. Please download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.In the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) paste the following in bold:

netsvcs
drivers32
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*
%systemroot%\*. /mp /s
CREATERESTOREPOINT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\Results\Install|LastSuccessTime /rs

Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted. When the scan completes, it will open two Notepad windows. OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Post both logs in this thread. You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hi there,

I have a problem starting my notebook (An Acer TravelMate 803 LCi) to Windows. Windows starts quick enough (like it should with a notebook with that performance) ... But as windows is started it should start my icons in the system tray on the right, like my connections, MSN Messenger and especially McAfee Virusscan 7. It takes approx. 5 minutes till McAfee Virusscan starts, and then all other programs (not too many) start immediatly as well.

But the wait for McAfee is too long. It all used to start in 1 minute when i just bought it (and also when it was fully installed), but now, after 4 months it starts only in 5 mins.
I read a post in the archive which stated that it had to do with spyware etc...

It used HiJackThis logs and adaware (which i all have, i did a virusscan, no virusses, i ran adaware, cleaned all spyware, i did hard disk control, fixed errors, i did defrag, and rebooted but still the problem persists).

Well ... i downloaded hijackthis, and this is my log. Is there anything that has to be removed and can anyone help me to get my startup time back to normal levels? Or doesn't it have to do with security and should i post this elsewhere?

I'm an IT graduate, but don't have experience with all this.

Hi there,
I did a clean boot(disabling startup items) a while ago and after reverting back to normal boot, my computer became pretty slow in doing certain things. I don't know if this has anything to do with my clean boot or if it was just coincidence that it happened then.
Anyway, booting seems to be as fast as usual, but if I change the focus from one window or program to another it takes a while. Also when i open a new window/program it takes a long time. When opening a folder with many icons in it, it takes pretty long to load all the images. Also loading in games takes longer than it used to, once everything is loaded it runs OK. But anytime it has to load something new, like a graphical effect the program freezes for a few seconds. The rest of the computer does not freeze then.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on an Asus K52JE notebook. I defragmented my hard drives, did some cleanup with ccleaner, MS security essentials says no viruses or anything. There don't seem to be any programs using a lot of CPU or memory according to the task manager.
Any idea what can cause these problems?
If you need further information let me know.
Cheers
Bengt

Anybody run into this problem?

A:Solved: Word 2000 Types Slow!

Run Word's repair. If that doesn't work, take these steps in order, checking Word after each one to see if it has resolved the problem:

1. Check to see if Outlook is journaling anything, particularly Word.

2. With Word closed, rename the normal.dot file and relaunch.

3. See if there is anything in Word's Startup folder, temporarily move it.

4. Backup then dump the Word registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word

Ok, here's a weird one: my wife's computer is very slow. We can't explain it, and nothing we do seems to fix it. Thanks in advance for your patience and help.

She has a Dell Pentium III 500 MHz with 256Mb RAM, running Windows 2000 Pro. After working fine for years, it is suddenly now taking at least 30-45 seconds to respond to almost any mouse-click or keystroke, and to do things during boot-up that should only take a couple seconds.

Here's an example: in Windows Explorer, the window opens pretty quickly, but for like 30 seconds the only part of the tree shown is the C: partition (where the operating system is). The cursor is not an hourglass, but *something* is obviously still "thinking". It takes another 20-30 seconds or so for the other partitions on the primary drive to show up, and then even longer after that for the 2nd hard drive partitions to appear.

We get a similar response with every program we run.

This really has us scratching our heads. The processor percentage is negligible (like 2%). There are no rogue processes hogging resources. The hard drive is not flailing away. We shut off the firewall (NIS 2005). We've done scans with Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., and don't see evidence of any malware. I checked the Event Log under My Computer --> Manage and saw nothing significant. I even booted into Safe Mode and that did *not* make the problem go away. This would seem to rule out a driver problem, resource co... Read more

I was just browsing the internet when I got a message from Norton saying I had 15 seconds to save whatever I was doing because it was going to reboot my computer. I've never seen this message before.

When computer rebooted everything looked ok but internet is REALLY slow. If more then 2 web pages are opened the task manager reports CPU is at 100% usage. Then the pages say "not responding". I have to click "switch to" and wait about 10 seconds for the page to start running again.

I ran spybot and ad-aware and hijack this. Found some things but got rid of them. Rebooted about 7 times since and still no luck.

Any suggestions?

i have one machine with 2000pro/p2/300/64m and it's almost 5 minutes for it to bootup.

too many programs/web pages/outlook express open and it chokes on itself.

it's rock steady but if your ram is the same or less than what i have, you're asking it to do too much at the same time.

ram is cheap, disk cleanup/scandisk/defrag regularly, will keep it where it needs to be.

It may be a coincidence, but ever since I installed Norton Internet Security 2006 on my system, the computer is much slower to respond. I have a router on my system as well. Could that have anything to do with this (the Norton firewall and the router that acts as a firewall)?

I am obviously concerned that I have been effected with a virus/worm/macro/whatever. One thing That I have noticed is that in my Task Manager-Processes I have four 'scvhost.exe' files. I know that at least one is necessary for Windows, but this file can also be used for Trogan.W32.Dasher.

Has anyone got any answers to speed things back up again? Thanks

I have made back up discs when i bought this pc, But with the Windows 10 , I am not given the choice to do a Restore. My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it.  bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit.  Thank you  Dee33

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Note: Please disable your computer's log in password just to make sure you won't encounter any locked up issues after bios update by going to  RUN then type netplwiz then uncheck the box click apply then enter your password and re enter it (Just dont mind the user)

why would my wifes computer running windows 2000 pro be very slow to start-up and more importantly what can be done about it

A:windows 2000 pro slow start-up

hi peteg welcome to T.S.G.
because of the amount of drivers 2k/xp load on startup its noticably slower than its predecessors.
but you can trim the boot time down a little by hitting "start"/type "msconfig"....hit the startup tab.anything you recognise that you dont really need starting on boot up just un-check and click apply.
if you need any more info, let us know.
good luck

hi all of you,
i have windows 2000 professional with service pack 4, it was working very fine till one day when i was surfing internet at night. when i disconnected my windows got very slow almost 10% of original speed. i have scanned my pc with latest definition of avg but found no infection. i did not download any thing but just clicked on some links on internet. i have checked all the processes going on in my pc through task manager but didn't find anything spurious. there are about 29 processes altogether. but winmon.exe is taking 80-90% of cpu time and my processor usage is also 100%. i have also tried repairing the windows by the repair option in the windows setup, but that too did not worked.
thanks

Ok, so here is my problem.

Basically I am using Windows 2000 to access a share on a Linux box through samba : reading the Linux share from Windows is very very slow.

Linux : 2.4.20 + Samba 2.999
Windows : 2000 Pro SP3

The very weird thing is that almost the same configuration works in another place : same Linux, same smb.conf (diff shows no difference), Windows 2000 SP2 (ok windows 2000 has not the same SP)

So let's get into the details:
- reading and writing from Linux to Linux is ok (3 sec)
- reading and writing from Windows to Windows is ok (3 sec)
- writing to Linux from Windows is ok (3 sec)
- reading from Linux to Windows is NOT ok (5min)

so this cannot be a hardware problem (since Windows-Windows is ok). All interfaces are set to 100Mb/s Full duplex.
All NICs (under Linux and Windows) are the same.

SMB.CONF extract

A:Windows 2000 + samba = slow

The problem was that the switch was forced in full duplex and so it said all links were full duplex
In fact only the interfaces of the windows boxes dealt with that. The Linux servers were on auto negociation and used half duplex.

When I start up my windows 2000 professional on my Dell Latitude laptop, it takes very long to get to the username/password screen (30min.) Once I get there it takes another 20 min to get to the desktop. And then it continues to run just as slow. I have a Pentium 3, 500Mhz laptop. Can anyone help?

A:Windows 2000 startup very slow

30 min+20 min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????

This goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond slow startup!(And this may take a while ,so be patient)

First, have you thought about disabling startup items that you don't need to start on bootup.Having too much stuff in there can slow your system down dramatically. The only things I allow to start on bootup on my machine are my anti virus and firewall.

Also go here:http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
and check out the service configurations, there are a lot of services that you can disable to help your system run better and faster

I've been reading through this site and I see logs from the hijack this program, so I downloaded it and will post the results below. I was wondering if anything here could be causing my Windows 2K Pro, to be starting slow. Sometimes I get to the starting windows logo and it just stays there, doesn't move so I have to reset. Other times it will show me the logon screen where it's doing the configurations to the internet etc, and stall there. Again I reset.
This started about two weeks ago. Thanks!

Hi Everyone!

Over the last week I have noticed my Win 2000 PC getting slower and slower.

I am not a heavy downloader, and have over 7GB left on my 40 GB HD. Two days ago I installed some auto updates from Microsoft, and I noticed a system 'hang' when trying to shut down my PC afterwards. It took 17 mins for it to close.

The next morning the boot up/start up on my PC took an eternity....it now takes over 6 mins to boot to my desktop, and when there, everything has slowed to a snails pace. I contacted Microsoft, explained the problem and that I was on Sp4, and they sent me a Hotfix for article ID 884039 on their site about W2K slowing up. This did very little to help.

I have defragged, reg cleaned, and run Service Controller Xp 2.2...and tried to limit any resourse issues, but still the thing runs close to dead. Dont understand it!? If anyone could shed any light I would be most grateful, and I have a HiJackThis log if anyone would kindly be willing to look at it for me?

Thank you for time and consideration in this way!

Nathan

A:Very slow computer-windows 2000

Log looks fine

Get either of these

EasyCleaner http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm

Use the clear files and Unnecessary files buttons - I do not recommend
using the Duplicates files button as many dupes are there on purpose.

Crap Cleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

then run a defrag

Make sure you have these programs and check the versions

SpywareBlaster 3.4 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
AdAware SE 1.06 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html - * NEW *
SpyBot V1.4 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html * NEW *
MS AntiSpy - http://download.microsoft.com/downl...-fca2f2c6f0cc/MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe (XP and W2K only)

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.
If it continues, you may want to totally un-install all of AOL and re-install.

It is a Windows 2000 Professional

It is running incredibly slow and hangs when I try to do a disk clean up. When I check resources there were three sessions of cleanmgr.exe running because I stopped it after 10 minutes and tried again, twice!

It also hung on shutdown and does so frequently.

It has been checked for adware and some was removed – made no difference

It has Norton corporate version of antivirus software running and it is up to date

It hangs at shutdown as well

It has 12GB total – 7 available

It has 120 MB of RAM

Honestly I don’t know what to do. I thought I could run the spyware, then I could do a disk clean, then a defrag and it would help. Mostly writes and uses email. There is a lot of extra stuff on it like Kazaa. I know that can bring in all sorts of extras you don’t intend. But the spyware and Norton should have taken care of that. I am also concerned because I don’t think user has what is needed to reinstall. She thinks it is some virus because she is getting bounced emails that she didn’t send. I don’t think that would be the problem am I wrong? The problem started about 5 months ago and was running alright before that.

Please advise. Its a clone PC PII I think.

Thanksso much for your time!!!!

Windows 2000 Pro, AMD 1.2 GB Processor. Windows 2000 installed several months ago. No problems. Ran at good speed. Three days ago system started to slow down. Now almost to a crawl. Print job of two color pages just finished after almost thirty minutes. Yesterday a print job stayed in the queue for several hours. Moving from application to application, starting an application, or moving from one web page to another can take fifteen seconds to a minute, or more.

Could this possibly be a virus or a worm? Have run all the scans of Norton Systemworks 2002, including an up to date virus scan. Nothing detected. Help.

Hi jimhutchens, Welcome to TSG!!

Give us a log to look at so we have some idea of what your machine is running.

Create a permanent folder on your hard drive like c:\program files\hjt.
Download Hijackthis and save it to that folder.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.  It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS. Please click the white KUDOS star to show your appreciation

Anyways, the comp will boot fine, but when it comes to the Window's logon menu the computer begins to slow down considerably. It takes almost 20 mins to load the desktop and when you click on something it will take up to a minute to load it, but all you get is an outline of the application and you are not able to really navigate anywhere. Basically, everything loads very, very slow and will not load when you click on it. Is there anything I can do just even to recover files?

Hi. I've got a problem that has got me completely baffled. I've got 3 Windows XP Pro machines connecting to a Windows 2000 domain server. They all logon, but it takes probably 2 full minutes to get to the desktop after the logon screen. It sits at "Applying your personal settings" screen for what seems like forever and then finally gets to the desktop. I've checked the firewall settings for the network connection and it is disabled. I've reconfigured the server back to all default settings on group policy and the like. Nothing seems to help. Anyone else seen this or experienced this? Thanks for any info.

BTW, I've got SP2 installed on the server and the xp machines are brand new and updated.

A strange thing happened today while viewing a chat room run almost exclusively with java popup windows. Windows 2000 Professional went into ultra slow mode. Occassionally I got a system advisory message indicating that the virtual memory was running out.

I find all this strange because I am running 512mb of ram and a 40 gb hard drive with a 32gb allocated to the Windows 2000 Operating System. Current resources on the drive that handles Windows 2000 is 78%. I went ahead and defragged and rebooted and it didn't do anything. I also went ahead and increased the size fo the swap file to 768mb for both minimum and maximum. This is what was recommended in the Windows Help Screen and it still didn't do anything.

I am still getting the error messages and am wondering if something might have gone wrong with the registry in the way that the Win2k Op System is using Virtual Memory.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. I went ahead and used Neoplanet to get into here tonight because it is light and quick and wouldn't use as much memory. However, I am not wild about it because it is adware.

Thanks

Hi Guys,
the laptop is very slow. how slow??
it takes 14.5 min to boot up.
it takes 4 min to get the outline of a window when i click on IE and 3 more
min to get the home page up. ( Google.com)
it is like this for any other app i try to open. ( the Start button takes about 35 sec to open)
it is the same when connected to my lan or when it is a stand alone.
So, i did a format and a re install, not once, but twice.
i continue to run AVG scans, and spyware scans
they always come out clean.
And the laptop is still the same.
the laptop is:
a P M 1.7 Gig with 256 meg of ram
running windows 2000 pro. (format is NTFS)
i have a P III 500 gig with the same ram that runs rings around this laptop.
did a mem test 86 and it passed all tests.
ran Sea tools (all tests) passed.
I have run a Root kit reviler. all OK.
all downloads were from the MS site and fileHippo site.
the laptop was always a little slow, but now it is painfully slow.(this did not happen overnight.)
if i open "task mgr" then open a window, the task mgr says that the processor sits idle then all of a sudden the window process will go to about 20 % usage and the windows starts to open.
when you look at it, it is almost like......... "did i double click it or not?"
at this point i think it is a hardware thing.
any thoughts??

thanks.
inetbogey.

P.S. i have posted this on another tech board.

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?

Hello

First:
My BIOS does not support booting from a USB device
The Notebook does NOT have a CD-ROM
I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

Hi, I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my PC after accidentally formating the HHD because of a faulty image system I tried to restore.  I was able to download and install most of the drivers that I required from this page on hp website: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-2000-300-notebook-pc-series/5145724/model/5171088... However the chipset driver seems to be missing. The processor is: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.65HGzThis seems to be the motherboard information of the pc: Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard            Product: 3577SerialNumber: PCHMCA47V1R2BJ             Version: 24.49 I obtained that information by running the following command on the command prompt:    >wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer, version, serialnumber The rest of the pc specs are on this hp page (its google cache version since the page look blank to me otherwise):http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03015474&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&... Any help would be appreciated.

Product: HP 2000  Notebook PCOS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Hi, I have backed up my entire notebook and ready to factory reset but I am unable to achieve this.  I have not been able to find the HP recovery manager on the computer nor a download available for it. I have held the F8 key during reboot but I only get a system restore point option, not a factory settings option.  I unfortunately do not have any CD of Windows 7 ultimate Not sure where to proceed and help is appreciated, Thanks!

A:Unable to Factory reset HP 2000 Notebook PC

Hi, If the Recovery Partition is still intact, you may be able to launch this by shutting down the notebook, then tapping away at f11 as soon as you start the notebook. Regards, DP-K

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

A:bypass hp administratior password hp 2000 notebook pc

Hi: Type any password you want 3 times, and the PC should generate a system disabled (halt) code. After you get the halt code, see the first post at the link below for how to get an unlock code to enter, so you can get access to your PC.  There are also steps to clear the password. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy?stem-and-Recovery/System-Halt-Error-Message-or-BIO?...
