WIFI Connected but no internet access

Q: WIFI Connected but no internet access

Hi guys,

Bought my new Sony Vaio today that of course came with Windows 8. I have completed the setup and installed Norton 360 and Office and tried (unsuccessfully) to uninstall McAfee. Now when i boot up the computer the WI-FI connects (with a full, four bar connection) however, when i try and open IE or the store, I get a connection issue saying there is no internet access.

I am using the same Wi-fi network to post this on this forum, so it seems the issue must be on the Vaio side, what do you guys suggest?

A: WIFI Connected but no internet access

Can you connect by ethernet?

Why can't you uninstall McAfee? Did it get all tangled up with Norton? Tried the McAfee Removal Tool?

If/when you need to uninstall Norton Symantec has the Norton Removal Tool.

I proceedes to delete and elimate it using bleepingcomputer guide. Afterward I check my pc and the internet still doesnt work even though im connect and have internet access. Now Im really frustated.

My laptop is connected to the WIFI/Router, I have the right password and everything. The internet is sometimes working normally, but then sometimes it stops functioning properly. The little

What could this be? Why? And how can I fix this?

Thanks!

Hi guys, I have this problem that's been giving me a headache these days... I have a Dell XPS L502x with Intel centrino n6230 in tow.
Well, the laptop was working fine and all but started to have this weird connection drops in my work now and then, I blamed the router. Then it started loosing connection in my home too, it shows that the WiFi is connected and when I hover over the WiFi icon it says "internet access" but whenever I tried to access a webpage it won't connect... I blamed the network adapter and tried reinstalling and reinstalling the drivers and changing settings but none of it worked.
It literally is driving me crazy, but before I refresh the system I wanted to see if you guys can help me out!
Thanks in advance

A:HELP! WiFi connected but cannot access internet!

If you really do have internet access you should be able to ping a DNS server located somewhere outside your network. open a command prompt, Start > run > enter "cmd" and hit enter. type in "ping 8.8.8.8" if you get a response in replies you know that its technically working and connected to the internet.

A:wifi is connected but no internet access in windows 7

The C-prompt message shows you neither have an IP or a connected adapter. Try deleting your existing adapter configuration and reconnecting from scratch. Also, when done run ' c:\ping google.com -t ' or replace google.com with anything else. Also try a Wired connection to figure out if it's a SW or HW problem.

Hello there,

Im encountering this strange problem for a couple of months now and at first i thought it might be an ISP issue.
But i realise it may not be.
The wifi icon occassionally has an exclamation mark on it indicating no internet access despite being connected to the network.
When i run my mouse over the icon, it starts identifying with the network and i get access back again.
I notice it drops after i leave the PC dormant or dont move the mouse. This has disallowed me to download anything large without disconnecting halfway.

Has anyone experienced this before?

A:Wifi connected but Internet access keeps dropping

First off what OS are you using? You specified Windows XP. If you are using XP, you are in the wrong forum. We need the full system Spec's on your machine. That means you will have to download Speccy from Speccy - System Information - Free Download

If you are using Windows XP. You can get help at the sister forum Windows XP Forums

Okay, so yesterday, I came home to find that my computer could not connect to Google.com, even though my WiFi was shown as connected with internet access. Skype couldn't connect either. Actually, to be specific, the internet would be accessible for a couple mines at a time, though it would be slow. Another computer in our house is having the same issue, but my tablet does NOT. I take my tablet with me to school. Anyway, I've perused the web for any solution, and have found none. I have tried...

Static IP
Flushed DNS
Reset TCP/I (something like that)
Rebooting
System Restore to before issue.
Virus scan (clean)
Disabling Local Area Connection in favor of wireless area connection

I am unable to release and renew my IP, since it says no action can be performed while media is disconnected. I cannot think of anything else. Oh, and since I'm on my tablet, fetching the ipconfig /all would be a bit time-consuming.

Please help!

I use a wireless network in the home for media centre purposes (PS3, 2 pcs) and i use a 3g usb modem on the pc that i require internet on whenever that maybe. Problem i have is that when the WLAN is up and i connect to the 3g modem i cant see anything on the internet. Is it something to do with the default gateway? or is it something with my browser? gonna check right now if i can ping and work out if its possibly DNS related will post back in a sec. Ta.

EDIT: It appears to be DNS related as i can ping 4.2.2.2 but if i ping google.com or .co.uk its not getting a response. Where should i be looking to resolve this?

EDIT:
This is a grab of the ping while both wifi and usb are connected and then the succesful ping is the wifi disabled. What on earth is going on here obviously the ip address is completly different on the succesful ping could this be something to do with a proxy??

A:Solved: When i have wifi and 3g usb modem connected i cannot access internet

Your first suspicion (Default Gateway) is almost certainly the reason. When Windows has a choice of Default Gateways it chooses the wired over the wireless. But if they are the same type--both yours are wireless--I don't know if the selection is random or if there is an algorithm.

Anyhow, the solution is your situation is to assign a static IP to the Wi-Fi connection, leaving the Default Gateway and DNS null (blank). The IP you choose has to be in the router's IP range but outside its Dhcp server's address range.

I'm having an issue with 1 of our laptops, Since yesterday haven't been able to access websites. I'm able to connect to our wifi but no internet access. I tried rebooting router, unplugging router, renewing ip addresses. In the past had a windows xp laptop that used to get conflicting ip addresses with 1 of our other devices. But when this would occur it wouldn't actually show as connected to the wifi, it would just say acquiring over and over.

Sometimes if I reboot the laptop i can get to a site for about a minute, then after that I'd lose the connection.

Any ideas? No issues with our other computers, devices.

My notebook Dell Inspiron N5010 running Windows 7 Home Basic did not get internet access inspite of being connected via wifi network. Tried connection via cable, same problem. After visiting Tech Support Guy forum and resetting winsock and ipv4 and ipv6 without success I got to a solution just restoring the system to a point some two months ago! While in the restoration process I've been informed about programs installed in between that would require re-installation. Thus, I came to that the "no internet access" problem was due to one of the removed programs. I will try to determine which was the villain by reinstalling them one by one. If I got to the devil one I will report here.

I also know the wireless router is working fine due to we have phones that wirelessly connected to the router, and they are also getting internet access.

Please help!

A:Laptop wifi connected to router but no internet access

I would firstly, double check security and you typed your passkey in right.. sounds dumb but has fixed many peoples errors. Also make sure you didn't block your MAC Adrees.

If still no go, turn off the router security then try to connect.

If no go try updating the drivers.

If still no go then we got issues.

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

Hello there,

I'm having a real hard time keeping a steady internet connection, I'm lucky if I get 15 mins losing internet, then I have to either reset or disconnect and reconnect again... very frustrating..

so before posting here, I tried many, many solutions but no luck. (TCP log reset etc., changing DNS server, deleting the networ and the network location and re-adding, did a virus scan but nothing showed up, I re-installed and tried to update the network card, multiple restarts and tweaks, deleted some softwares....)... but NOTHING!
I feel like a doctor who cannot figure out a diagnosis or the patient will die! Literally because if this does not work soon I will throw away this laptop..

Vista64, HP HDX18, Intel 5100 AGN network card < (very problematic from what I read)..

Now when I connect via Ethernet cable it's fine!
ALSO, when I connect my Android phone to the same wireless network I get perfect connection and I can stream YT videos while my laptop struggles to open a page

Please share some tips ore ideas that might help!

Thanks and much appreciated.

I've recently gotten a new internet service and router (Netcomm NB16WV). I connect to wifi easily, however, at random times, I will lose internet access despite still being connected to wifi. After about 10 or 15 odd minutes, internet access would normally return (restarting the router also helps). This problem has been occurring for the past month every day.

I have attached a screenshot of Xirrus running while I am unable to access the internet. I run 'connection test' a couple of times while it's down, and it always shows a 20% - 100% ping loss, and sometimes the DNS lookup fails (but most of the time it just says % ping loss).

I have internet connection right now.

Thanks in advance!

A:Losing internet access sporadically, despite being strongly connected through wifi

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Try these two tests independently, and then together if neither helps ...

Try channel 1 (also requires setting Channel Bandwidth to 20 MHz).

Try with encryption disabled. If this works then try WPA-PSK (not WPA2).

Do you get internet access with an ethernet connection?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. Okay I live in the dorms in college.(well actually they are not the dorms but overflow apartments because the dorms were full, not sure if it matters but thought i should add) I brought my wireless netgear router with me to school to plug my Ps3 into and to download certain things the school blocks on the regular wireless internet.

So I plug my router into the jack in the room and then run wireless to my laptop and wired to my Ps3. I set up the router and it determined the internet connection is DHCP . I set the router to obtain I.P. and DNS addresses dynamically and it won't work. then i set it to use static addresses. ( the address that it picked up dynamically ) It then works for awhile, sometimes a few hours and sometimes less than an hour. To get it to work again all I have to do is set it back to dynamic wait a couple minutes and move it back to static. When I lose connection my playstation says its a DNS error.

my roommate plugs his laptop directly into the jack on the wall because he doesn't have a wireless card and he hasn't said anything about losing his connection. But once i plugged him into the router he loses his connection just like me.

I am sure i am forgetting something important if anymore info is needed I will add. Please help it is really getting annoying changing the setting on the router

Hello,

I have an Asus Netbook 1005P, running Windows 7, SP1, with Internet Explorer 11.

I am often but not always, experiencing the following issue:

When I attempt to connect to Wifi at a caf, the "Wireless Network Connection" for the Network shows "Connected", yet there is no Internet access. Placing the pointer over the Connection icon in the Notification Area displays:

"Unidentified Network No Internet Access".
(The network in question always has an SSID shown in the Wireless Network Connection list.)

This issue occurs whether I am running only the Windows firewall, or am only running the firewall that I prefer which is Comodo.

For antivirus I have Avast Pro (with its "web shield" currently disabled) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference whether this Avast component is enabled or disabled, or whether I disable all Avast Shields.

When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the caf connected to the caf wifi and also using the Internet.

I have to ask the caf to reset, or turn off and then turn back on, their router, yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!

This is the issue at whatever caf, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.

Please help with a solution to this issue.

Regards,

Robert339

I have a new Toshiba (not sure if that really matters) which came with Windows 8. The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7. I don't know if that's important.Main point: I am the only one in my house whose computer cannot use the wifi. I used it for about three weeks with not more complicatios than everyone else until a day or two ago. Now while others have normal access mine continues to be limited with not internet access. When Microsoft searches for a problem it says "Problems found: 'Wi-Fi doesn't have a valid IP configuration'". Do I need to do something with my computer, the modem, the router, or something else? Many thanks

A:Wifi connected with limited access

The other 12 people who share my wifi used Windows 7Although routers can connect multiple devices at the same time by wireless there are some obstacle you must check first like the distance and interference. The wireless feature of the router such as channel and signal would be the clear probable solution. Depending also on your router, look for an updated firmware version that might stabilize your whole connection and try updating your network adapter if available.

I cannot seem to get through the limited access on my WIFI network. I have a Ralink RT5390R 802.11 WIFI card, a Comcast Cable Modem & network. Laptop Pavilion DV7 connects to other wireless networks and other devices connect to the Comcast Modem no problems. I have disconnect Norton's Security, shut off Comcast Modem Security, updated driver and reinstalled but nothing has worked. I have read that Ralink RT5390R is incompatible with the Comcast modem but I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything. Truly stumped on this. I have pasted IPConfig /all below with Rizzo being my SSID. I am currently connected through an Ethernet cable to my cable modem while connected wirelessly to Rizzo with limited connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a laptop and recently the wifi has stopped working for me. I can still connect completely but it says with "limited access," which results in me being unable to access the internet at all. The rest of the computers in the house work fine on the wifi and I double-checked the securtiy settings (WAP2 and all that) and it seems fine. What can I do? Tethering to my phone allows me to get on the internet and the computer connects successfully, but no websites will load whatsoever.

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

ipconfig results are posted below. Images of Xirrus (1) and its connection test (3) are attached. Any help is very much appreciated!

I've been working on this for three days already, I am using win 7 64bits with a TP-link router.

I've just moved in to a new house, with a router set up by my landlord, for the first day, I couldn't connected to the wifi, but somehow I worked that out, and could now connected to the internet (Occasionally, still couldn't get connected sometimes). Anyway, since there's no problem connecting to the wireless network, I realize it is very very unstable, it's running really slow, and might lost access to internet even when the signals show everything's fine. I tried different methods, ipconfig /release and renew, uninstalling my driver, all kinds of stuff, but the problem still exist.

What can I do?

Have you tried changing the channel that the wireless is using? The type of security and encryption being used can also make a difference.

Xirrus wifi inspector can help you find a clear channel in your area, if you are confused by what it says then just post a screen shot of the read out here.

Just recently my HP ProBook 4520s, running Windows 7 32-bit, has had trouble connecting to the internet through WiFi. I've been reading into it and looking around the net, but to no avail. It shows my home network and connects, but with limited access (no access to the net in my case).

I did a system restore in hopes that it would fix the problem, and I got access for all of 30 seconds before it went back to limited connectivity. I manually updated the network card drivers, and still nothing. It's leading me to believe that its my router blocking access (Netgear WNDR3700). I haven't had a problem up until recently and its only with the laptop. My desktop PC, game consoles, and television can all still access the internet, with the desktop connecting through WiFi as well. I checked the router logs and noticed several DoS attacks and was thinking this may have something to do with it (and possibly laptop being infected?).

It looks as if there are some drivers for network on the Drivers and Software page for the U530 Ideapad (Touch). If that is your model, you could try installing those to see if it helps. Make sure you get the ones for Windows 10 when you search on that page.

I am far from computer savvy, but I know basic things. Here is my issue...
My HP pavillion dv6000 (yes it's old, I know) wont allow me to use the Internet. It says I am connected to my home wifi with 5 bars signal strength. My iPad and Droid both connect to my wifi and I can use the Internet fine. I actually have 2 Hp pavillion dv6000 laptops, and neither will connect to the Internet! Up until today everything worked fine and all of a sudden I can't open the intent on either one! I called Hp and they were no help. I have read other posts about people having similar problems, and tried the solutions suggested but nothing has worked! I need my laptop only because my wonderful iPad can't do everything I wish it could.

Help!? Thanks in advance!

Currently, I can connect to my WIFI router, gain an IP address. however I am getting no internet access.
I have a virtual machine running on the PC, with windows XP, and this machine does have full internet access.

Problems and resolutions so far:

Windows firewall and security manager were corrupted and various services did not start however all are up now.I reset the TCPIP stack via command prompt.I reinstalled Wifi drivers.I ran the sfc and chkdisk  commands. Check disk resolved some issues.I did a traceroute and i hit my router, after there is a request timeout then it goes to a few addresses before stopping.

Im lost now as everything seems to be up, just I am unable to browse. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

OK ..

im sure this is something silly and simple.. at least I hope it is.

I have a laptop with wireless. ... I can search for wifi networks.. like the airport and starbuck... find the list of networks available.. and hit connect.. and it says conected.

Then when I open up my Web Browser.. nothing ! Page cannot be displayed. as tho i have no connection. I have tried it with a few different places .. like the public wifi places and still nothing.. and even on a private network in my friends house

Im sure its a setting or something.. though I have the automatically detect settings selected in the internet options.

Its like the computer is connecting to the network.. but yet its realising that OH I should be using this connection for the Internet !!!

Im pretty good at sorting out problems with PCs / Windows thou I have no expierence of wireless networks so am totaly lost.

Hope this makes sense !
Thanks
Paddy

A:Connected to WIFI but no Internet ?

When you seem to be connected, open a Command window and type
ipconfig /all

Does your wireless show "Yes" for "Dhcp Enabled" and for Autoconfiguration Enabled ? If not, you need to go into your TCP/IP properties and set to 'obtain IP auto' and 'obtain DNS auto.'

If your wireless is showing an IP of 169.254.x.y it did not successfully get an IP configuration from the router or server. Is there a chance that the wrong driver is installed--maybe one for the wrong region of the world (for example, US and Canada use channels 1-11 while most of Europe uses channels 1-13).

If not the above, post the ipconfig here. One way to do so is to type
ipconfig /all >C:\ipconfig.txt
This will put the results in the ipconfig text file on your hard drive; you can open it with notepad to copy and paste here.

Hey there. This is my first post on this forum, I hope that I can get some help here . Anyways, here is the issue that my roommates and I are experiencing with our internet.

Recently, starting just a few weeks ago, our internet began acting a bit strange for all of us. We are able to constantly stay connected 24/7. In our network preferences, it says we are always connected to the internet with full bars. For the most part, we all have perfect and fast internet connection, but for some unknown reason, every 45 minutes or so (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer), we won't be able to load anything on the internet from a range of about 5-10 minutes.

The strange thing is that even during these periods of time where we are unable to load anything, as if we had no wifi connection, all of our devices that we use the internet on said that we all still had a perfect connection. Even if we are sitting right next to the router with our laptops, this issue will still constantly reoccur as i described earlier.

What's even weirder is that sometimes things like video games on the pc that run in different clients (not the internet browser), will be able to maintain internet connection when playing online when the internet stops working for everything else. That is definitely what confuses me the most. How could a video game maintain internet connection for online play on the same wifi, yet none of our other devices are able to load anything? We won't even be able to use w... Read more

My wifi is connected, but when I open any browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer) It loads and then says I have no internet connection. I've tried troubleshooting, but it tells me everything is fine. The Wifi on our other laptop works fine or for my phone; basically any other device works perfectly fine, except my laptop. I've tried using CMD, going back on my Restore Point and nothing has worked, and if it does it's only for 3-5 minutes, and it gives me the same error that I have no internet connection. after a reset the default for the router would be 192.168.1.1
BUT
you are showing a default gateway connection on your ethernet of 192.168.1.254

Also the wireless adapter is a Atheros AR5007 and under vista , any change in routers or router settings can cause issues

can you explain what you are connected to using the ethernet cable ?

and you should update the wireless driver from the manufacturers website - if that does not work - then from Atheros site

whats the make and model of the PC ?

AR5007
Vista 32 / 64 Bit
Direct link Drivers for Atheros AR5007 and Windows Vista 32 / 64 bit
You only need to click on the green download button labelled " Click to Download " and wait, the file will download - you do not need to click on any other buttons to get the download started

To install the driver you will need to do the following

Extract the downloaded zip file into a folder on the PC
then

> Start Globe
> Control Panel
> System and maintenance
> Scroll down to Device manager
> network adaptors, click on the + >
> Right click on the AR5007 Adapter
> click on Update Driver Software...
> click on Browse my computer for driver software
> let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
> Have Disk
> click on the Button Browse...
> Locate the folder you extracted the zip folder and highlight the .inf file
you should see two files with .inf

When I connect via Wifi, the connection shows 5 bars and no disconnections to the wifi router. But the Internet constantly get's disconnected. It acts the same way on other wifi routers. Something about the hardware in HP laptop is disconnecting the internet.

What I've done so far -
1. stopped using the built in wifi card and used a Netgear N external wifi
Still the same problem

Any ideas outside of the wifi card, are there other services running that would manage the internet connection?

I have tried W7 for about a week now, and I love it! I have one problem though; Windows connects to my wireless router at startup, but I have to wait 2-5 minutes before I can access the internet, Spotify and e.g. Live Messenger.

Programs like for example Windows Update and F-Secure downloads updates and stuff, but I can't surf on the internet or log on to Spotify.

There seems to be some kind of delay..

Any ideas?

A:WiFi connected, but no internet (delay)

same issue for me, once connected, it seems that Ie for example cannot have access for some time to the TCP-IP stack

My wi-fi is connected and says I have a strong connection however whenever I open up either Internet Explorer or Chrome, both say there is no internet connection.

This has been like this for about 25 minutes now. Prior to this, I was having issues with internet for the past day and a half. It would say I was connected but had no internet access. After removing a trojan and some malware that Norton didn't let me know about and getting rid of some of the programs I no longer use (including Norton), I now had internet access showing and it's a strong connection. UNFORTUNATELY, I can't even use the internet I apparently have access to. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, I've disconnected and reconnected.

Baby steps I suppose, but now I've hit a road block. I feel like I've done everything possible but what would you guys say? Anything else I could try?

EDIT: I suppose I should mention its a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7

A:Wifi Connected but Internet isn't working?

Update: I've even gone in and deleted myself from the router, assigned a new ip to my computer through the router, and reset anything and everything that could be reset. this is getting ridiculous. Can anyone help me?

I have 2 PCs and 1 Xbox 360 connected to my router most of the time. 1 PC is wired and the rest are wireless. My router is a Netgear Rangemax WPN824v3.

My problem is that sometime, randomly, the internet will quit working through wireless, but work fine with wired. I will still be connected to wireless, but all internet access will just stop. Leading to me having to power cycle it just to access the internet again.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My laptop crashed and I took it to a professional to get it repaired. He reinstalled Vista and put all my files back on, but now I can't connect to the internet. Neither IE nor Chrome will work. When I click "Diagnose Connection Problems" it says "Your modem or router is not available" and none of the suggested fixes work. However, in the system tray it says I'm connected to my wifi.

This may be an unrelated issue, but when I click Start>Accessories, it opens two tabs with this link: redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=4&tp=iefavs&s=hpaccessories&pf=cnnb&locale=en_us&bd=all&c=83
Because of this, I can't get a snip of the Command Prompt as advised in the Network Posting Tips sticky. Is there another method to get that info for you guys? Would a screenshot work?
Here are my system specs:

Windows Vista Home Premium (2007)
Sevice Pack 2

Processor: AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2.00 GHz
Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit

Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Model: Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook PC
Model Number: CQ50 110US
Product Number: FE869UA

A:Connected to WiFi, but can't reach internet

Please open a command prompt and type in the following command: ipconfig /all. Please copy and paste the output or take a screenshot. Also have you tried a wired connection? Can other computers access the internet? Can you access the internet from other routers?

I am currently using a Vostro A860 that will connect to wireless but wont load pages and I have been unable to narrow down the problem. I am currently connected to wifi on my smartphone and using an app to tether it to the PC. Other laptops are connected to this network and it is working fine. Right now it seems like the wireless network connection is not receiving any packets of information. I have messed around with the firewall, but disabling it still does not change anything. This PC did not have any wireless drivers so I had to download them from the DELL website. As such they should be correct. I have restarted the computer since the drivers were installed, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007
Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

Hello. I have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.

I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless. Does anyone have any ideas before I send this thing back to Asus?

Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.

It reports connected, no internet. This happened to a tp-link usb and a netgear, both new. Confusing.

Turns out, its a Windows 10 update. I tried both usb wifi adapters, editing the registry removing leftover entries between installs.

Still happened on both. Restored Windows 10 to before their critical update and the netgear usb wifi adaptrr (A6210) works. Be careful not to clean up after a Windows update as that can kill the restore possibility. Thanks Mickeysoft.

I have researched this problems and followed over a dozen diffrent instructions to flush DNS and disable some other stuff, etc. Nothing works.
I have AVG free antivirus, but it has never interfered with my internet on any of my computers.

If you had McAfee you will want to run it's special uninstaller tool.

McAfee Removal Tool - McAfee Uninstaller

A few problems I noticed at that you have 2 Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptors enabled, you should disable both of them as they aren't used unless you set up a hosted wireless network.

Another possible problem is that you seem to have a default gateway showing up where the DNS servers should be.

Is there secondary router in this network or did you type the default gateway into the DNS settings for some reason?

It may help to type the DNS servers into the routers settings then remove the entries from the IPv4 properties.

It also appears that you typed a DNS server into your WINS at the IPv4 properties, WINS isn't used much anymore so removing that entry might be wise.

I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 network adapter trying to connect to the wifi router on campus from my dorm room. The routers are placed in the common areas, so I do not receive a very strong signal in my room, but it works good enough for my Android phone to connect just fine and have a reasonable speed. My laptop on the other hand, which works fine in the common areas with good signals, at times struggles to get internet. I have episodes where I can connect just fine and receive sufficient speed, but then at other times, I connect to the wifi but I cannot connect to the internet. I click Diagnose on the Wireless Network Connection Status, which runs and claims to find an error which is fixed by resetting the wireless adapter. Rarely does this actually fix the problem though. I am curious as to what could be causing this spotty internet connection with my laptop, when my phone always works just fine. Could it be something with HP's default WLAN manager? I read something about updating to Intel's wifi manager but I could not get the update to work with my Windows 7 64-bit OS. Does anyone have some insight that can make my laptop connect better?

during the day while i was at work, my roommate was going to use the laptop, when she couldn't connect, she did the unplug for 10 sec. thing...whent that didn't work, she unplugged the two cables from the back of the router, and plugged them back in. is it possible that she plugged them into the wrong place? would that be the problem? i am not at home right now, so i can't check...but will try to fix this when i get home tomorrow. not sure what i need to do!!

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Hi -- I'm new here and I'm not sure I am posting this in the right forum, but my Gateway laptop won't access the internet and gives me the error in the network and connections as "connected with limited access" or "local only". My other computers connect fine to the router so its definitely my computer. I have Vista OS -- Gateway online "help" said I have a defective network card because the IP address came back as a default. So, I bought a usb network card, disabled my other one and still didn't work. I tried an ethernet cable and that doesn't work either. I also tried connecting to my city's free wifi with the same result.
System Restore didn't work
I put my setting to find the DNS and IP automatically
My Wireless network shows as connected -- I am just not able to get an IP

I had previously had an intermittent problem with this and assumed it was the signal. Now, it just stopped working entirely.

I am thinking this must be a problem with Vista, because the other network card and the cable didn't work either. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This router is not a wireless router. I bought a wireless router named Linkysys.. I configured it using Automatic Configuration -DHCP, with a router name WRT54G.. i used the D-link router ip address as it's gateway (192.168.1.1). I disabled the DHCP server.. in other words, i am using a 2 router, a non-wireless connected directly to my desktop computer and a wireless router connected to that D-LINK broadband router..I tested the connection using Windows XP laptop and by then it works.. I can connect to my wireless network and browse the internet.. Please help. I know very little about computers. Please excuse me if I explain things wrong and use incorrect terminology.

I hadn't used my laptop for a while, and yesterday, it didn't come on when I tried to turn it on. I ended up taking out the battery, then holding down the power button for 30 seconds. The laptop worked fine after that, and I was able to access the Internet. When I went to shut it down, it said that it had updates to install, so I told it to install the updates and shut off when it was done.

When I started it up today, it seemed slow to get to the Toshiba screen. It looked liked it was still installing updates, which I found odd because it had shut itself down yesterday after installing all of them (I thought). I shut it down again after the updates (or whatever that was) had completed, and I was able to access one site very briefly. However, now I can't access the Internet at all. The Internet Explorer page comes up for a few seconds and then closes again to the Toshiba page. When I check my connection, it says that the Wifi is connected. I can't figure out why I can't access the Internet. Please help.

Edited to add that I'm using Windows 8. Also, I just tried to scan with Norton, but the scan won't work.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Hi,
I bought a laptop (HP Omnibook 6000) off of ebay,It has low specs as it was a cheap laptop so i could go on the internet with,Anyway I got it yesterday and it had Windows XP Home SP1 installed on it,So i inserted my wifi usb adapter to get the signal form the Netgear router next door,It connected perfect with a good signal,So I thought great and was ready t they to go onto the internet so I opened up internet explorer and it just said server not found,I installed a new version of AOL and tried to connect to the intetrnet,it never realised that the usb was in and connected so I wondered what was happening,I thought if i updated my windows to Professional it would help but this never worked either,I restarted the laptop but still no luck,So this morning I went to a computer shop and built a wifi pcmia card for the laptop to see if this would fix it but still the same problem,I had an old computer in the cupboard so I decided to instll windows Proffesional on it and insert the USB into it but has the same problem of bing connected but no internet is coming through,My brothers internet is still working (He uses the router, through the ethernet wire) Anyway I phoned AOL but they were no help,I then discovered by going into the properties of the computers wireless connection and saw that it was sent about 6000 Broadband bytes but the computer had received 0,I dont know why it isnt accepting these bytes through,I know that is the problem that is getting 0 of the number sent,I had... Hello,
I'd like to say Hi to everyone on the Forums, and see some people with alot of knowledge in these areas. I moved to the Czech Republic recently and found an apartment offering free internet. I never had to worry about speed, as it was quite good enough in the first few months. Then our landlord called in a technician to install WiFi for the bar downstairs. Our apartment is on the second floor, and landlords on the third. Only the bar has Wifi, and the rest of us still have the wired Connection.

Since that happened, my internet has been running around 100 kb/s and jumping from that to 50 kb/s down to 0 in the matter of seconds. It takes me hours to download little patches for games. I can't skype with my family back home due to the lag on webcam or disconnecting completely. Up stairs our landlord is always downloading stuff, and never has a problem. We've brought the problem up several times, but to no avail.

Is there something wrong with the wires leading to the router? There is a universal router for everyone, and it didn't slow down our connection before. The wire running into my apartment also is connected to a router, then my PC. I'm curious why our upstairs neighbors have perfect internet, yet we are struggling to watch youtube videos.

Thanks for your time,
Mike

Hi there!

So I have begun to encounter this super weird problem since the past two days.

I have a wireless router that I use to connect three devices to the internet. Two laptops and a phone. I've had the same internet connection for the past 1.5 years and everything has worked just fine.

Off lately, my laptop won't connect to the internet only in my room. Everywhere else, it works just fine. But the minute I enter my room, the connection changes to 'Unidentified network' or 'No internet access'. I tried bringing the other laptop in my room and that works perfectly.
What could be the reason for this?

I have been scouring forums on the internet, but couldn't find any resolution.
I tried re-installing my wireless drivers but that didn't help. Tried troubleshooting and the problem couldn't be fixed.

Please help!

I hvae a Sony VAIO VPCL114FD All-In-One computer that I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Win 7. It has an Atheros AR928x WiFi card, with driver 10.0.0.329 installed. It worked fine with 7, but since I upgraded the OS, I'm now getting "Connected, No Internet". I've narrowed down the issue, but cant seem to get it resolved. I'm running a Linksys EA4500 dual band router, with the channel width set to AUTO. When I go into the router setup page, and switch it from AUTO to 20 MHz, it resolves the problem. But, I don't want to run my network at 20 MHz, so I obviously want to get the card to recognize higher channel widths. When I go into the adapter properties, there is nothing available to do this (that I can find). I'm pretty sure I have the most recent drivers, so is it possible this card won't work with anything higher than 20 MHz with Win 10?

I have never run into this before.

I have a dsl modem/gateway (actiontec) which i use to connect to the internet

when I connected a Linksys WRT54G v.4 router to my laptop thru RJ45, WITH wifi disabled on the router, I lose connectivity to the internet on the wifi connection.

I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct.

Has anyone run into this on Vista?

I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection.

both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista?

weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas.

can you just run through your post again, you seem to be saying that you have disabled your wireless on your router and you lose connection on the wireless connection on your computer.
you will, because you disabled it.

Hello.

Firstly let me apologise if this question is repeated elsewhere but I could not find anything identical to it.

I have an Acer laptop and connect from this to the internet via a CDMA connection provided by the local (I live in Thailand) version of a Novatel MiFi 2200 modem. This works just fine for internet browsing and I simultaneously use P2P software to download UK TV stuff.

I also have a wired network in my house and on this I have a 3Gb NAS drive. There is a wireless router on the network but I am outside of it's range.

When I connect the network cable to connect to the NAS drive, I am no longer able to browse the internet. BUT the P2P software still carries on working as before. So therefore my laptop is still connected to the internet via the Wifi network.

So why does my browser think otherwise. Normally I use Google Chrome but I have also tried IE and this suffers from the same fate.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Alan
