I am having trouble with the following tasks:

Disable a user from creating AND changing their password

Disable a user from installing ANYTHING (I used the elevated option on the windows installer group policy editor, but I tested it out on the account and they were still able to install steam which was a *.msi file)

Disable a user from emptying their recycling bin AND using the permanent delete function which allows a deleted file to bypass the recycling bin (shift + del)

Thanks in advance for your help!

In computer management, go to local users and groups and in the users section, right click the user, properties, check "User cannot change his password"

To prevent regular installers, just don't make the user member of the administrators group, that denies him access to write to program files and most shared locations. All MSI files require administrators right to run, and "run as administrator" will ask for an admin password in this case (which the user should not know).

I doubt this can be done. For instance, any user is proprietary of all files under his profile in users folder (desktop, documents, all libraries, etc) and the proprietary of a file always has enough power to delete it. The recycle bin falls under this catego... Read more

Cannot boot...help......

Some how someone set a password on the Bios setting to a computer at the office. When I try to boot up now it will prompt me for the password. Apparently, the person who use the computer did not set the password and don't know who did.

How do I disable the Password. I've try flashing the Bios, but did not work. I need to disable the password first according to American megatrend, inc before I could attempt to flash the Bios. I've even try pulling out the CMOS battery, and reboot. still I get the same results. Do I have to leave the Cmos battery off and let it drain first and then try again to reset itself?

Any other solutions out there, please?

Thanks in advance,
CF

A:Need to disable BIOS password setting

You may need to leave the battery out for a little longer, also, there may be a jumper near the battery that when set correctly then returned to normal will also clear BIOS settings. We would need more information on the motherboard to be sure though.

Of course its possible?
But you have to know the old, set password.

> I know the password, but I can't delete it.
First of all you have to type the old password.
Then in two further windows, you have to confirm with the ENTER button.
Then safe the changes and exit the BIOS.

Hi,

I apologize if this is a duplicate or anything. I need to find a way to allow a standard user to execute a program that requires administrative access. I have attempted to set the program in compatibility to run as administrator but this has no effect on the standard user. For this program to execute it will still prompt them for an admin login before it opens.

This entire issue is negated if I make the user a local administrator but this isn't a long term solution I want to be using. Is there a way to keep UAC turned on but to allow the program to run for specific users? I'm open to any suggestions that do not compromise local security and appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you,

Create a password for your account and lock the desktop when you're not using it. If he doesn't have access to Windows he can't change anything.

If he needs access to the system, create a limited account for him. This type of account won't be able to create new accounts.

Hi all,

I would like to disable the "encrypt with password" option using Group Policy. Where I work using this option is a disaster waiting to happen (users lose passwords all the time).

You can find this setting in Word - goto FILE, INFO, PROTECTED DOCUMENT, ENCRYPT WITH PASSWORD. I've noticed this is in other parts of office (excel etc.).

I have a .ADMX template in AD to manage Office 2010 - is there any way to disable this for the entire Office 2010 suite?

Any and all help greatly appreciated,

I?ve never had to set the BIOS password, but the kids are growing up and I need to lock access to my PC.

My Bios has two Password Options: Supervisor and User.

The Supervisor password was accepted, and before I attempt to change the BIOS settings, the Supervisor password is asked for.

Then I set the user password.

However, when I boot up the PC, I am not asked for any password and windows loads as usual.

What am I missing?

The BIOS is Award Software International, Inc. F4 HI 07/03/2007

XP Pro, not networked, only one actual user in home/home office situation, although there are a couple of unused accounts on the machine.

I am logged as the user with administrator priviliges and want to remove the password from the account. Open Control Panel-User Accounts, select user, click remove password.

Windows asks for current password, I type the current password, Windows replies:

"Windows cannot remove the password. Password and/or account policies require the account to have a password."

I go to Admin Tools- Local Security Settings-Account Policy-Password Policy and set the minimum password length to 0. This is supposed to allow blank (no) password.

Still can not remove password.

Restart Windows. Try again. Same message.

Is there another setting somewhere I am missing?

Ok, this is my third attempt, after re-booting and re-booting. This is my wife's Sony, abt. 3 years old, P4, WinXP HE, 512k ram. For a long time now it has been "temperamental". Among the latest is I can no longer "switch user" as normally. Clicking Start/log off/switch user does absolutely nothing now, it merely reverts to the former screen. Start/log off/log off does work, however.
And the shortcut that I used to use, the Win logo key +L now goes to "UNLOCK COMPUTER", a pop-up message that tells me the pc is in use and locked and only I (presumably as an administrator) with the proper password can now unlock it..
Problem: what the heck is the password?
We don't recall ever setting one.
Control+Alt+Delete does nothing here. Once at this screen, my only recourse is to reboot. ("Cancel" is greyed out. I think though that a few days ago it wasn't and I could cancel. Is that my faulty memory or is this thing getting worse?)

A side note: I did recently download and utilize a reg cleaner freeware "Regseeker" which I used to delete only several items it said were not used or broken links. (It also allegedly created a back-up before deletion, but darned if I can see where or how I can get them back!)
I also disabled, thanks to another tech "advice", several services via Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. However, that techie claims nothing I disabled in his list should affect this.

Thanks!

Hi, If you know the current password, you can remove it as follows. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu and then select f10 to enter the Bios menu.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the Security tab and hit enter.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight power on password and hit enter.  Enter the current password and then for the new password, just leave this blank and hit enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select to save the new settings and hit enter. If you don't know the current password ( or it's not working ) then at the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a 'halt code' - post back with this code. Regards, DP-K

A:How to remove BIOS password ???

You'll have to reset everything in the BIOS configuration.
Open the computer's case
Find the battery on the motherboard
Remove the battery
Wait a minute or so (to make sure that the m-board's xompnents have powered down)
Reinstall battery
Close case
Start the computer
Go into the BIOS settings program
Set up the BIOS
Some motherboards have a jumper on the board - a jumper which, when shorted (or lengthened ), will erase the BIOS settings. For details, RT your motherboard's FM.

Yes, that means that anyone who can crack open the case can override YOUR BIOS password.

A friend of mine has a Windows 8.1 Pro system, and she is tired of having to enter the password all the time, and just wants there to be no password on the system. But when I tried to help do that, set a blank password, it generates an error:
The password you entered doesn't meet password policy requirements.
Try one that's longer or more complex.
So I googled that, and came up with a fix involving going into secpol.msc and disabling complex password requirements under the Password policy. Problem is, it was already disabled!
In that section of the policy manager is shows minimum password length = 0 and password complexity requirements Disabled.

I also tried creating another admin account, and I was able to create a second account that was an administrator and that had no password, but when I logged into that Test user and tried to remove the password from the original user, it gave me the same error above.

We don't want to create a new user and move all her stuff over. And we don't want to install an autologin option. We simply want the existing user account to have no login password.
How can we get this account to not have a password? So far I am stumped, have I overlooked anything obvious?
Again, we DO have the current password, and it works, BUT we want to be able to log into the machine with NO password required - we want to remove the password from the User. How?
Thanks.

I just realized that I no longer remember the user password for the BIOS. I still remember the supervisior password though. While it is true that knowing the supervisor password makes forgetting the user password not a problem, it still bothers me that I can't get rid of it. I do have an idea though. I'm thinking that removing the supervisor password will also remove the user password. Will this work?

Something happened today and I can no longer access my regular "user" account.

There are five "users" showing in the MMC program in Windows 7 and only one is working. The problem with this is that it does not contain any of the information and links that I use daily.

The accounts are as follows;

Administrator (disabled)
D (not disabled)
DCM (disabled)
Guest (disabled)
Homegroupuser$ (not disabled)

I cannot remove the "disabled" status or rename any of these users. An error pops up saying "access denied".

Is there some way to do this that I have not found?

I tried "googleing" this but did nothave any luck.

Thanks

I'm afraid to tell you, but for this, you have to contact local ASP.
Because it is not that easy or possible the way you would do this on deskopt PCs.

This is why you have to take your machine to ASP. The guys there can remove the password.

I have a satellite pro L series laptop which I switched on today and its asking me for a password which I have no idea what it is. I don't ever remember setting up a bios password as I never go in to the bios and I have certainly not had to put in a Bios password previously.

Is there anyway around this as I now have a prety expensive paperweight?

Kind regards

Steve

A:How to remove Bios password on Satellite Pro L

We cannot explain to you what was happen with your notebook but fact is that BIOS password cannot be set from alone. Maybe someone else has access to your notebook and have done this to make you angry, who knows.

BIOS password is very important security feature and removal procedure is kind of ?top secret? information and we cannot discuss about it on public forum. What you must do now is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can remove it for you.
Sorry.

Hi,

I have a Tecra A3x which died before Christmas. I purchased a replacement motherboard from eBay. I have fitted the mother board and the unit powers up fine but stop at a password screen that is plain black. I have tried to look for a way to wipe the BIOS and have taken the CMOS battery off for about 10 mins. I have read that most laptops have a jumper built in too fix this. I have looked under the usual places - memory modules etc. I can?t find this anywhere.

Any help would be very welcomed.

Thanks
John

A:Tecra A3X - how to remove BIOS Password?

Hello John

As you probably know BIOS password is very important security feature and BIOS password removal cannot be described on manufacturer?s public forum. It is a kind of ?top secret? information.
It is not logic to do this, right?

Every stolen Tecra A3X with BIOS password could be ?unlocked?.
In my opinion you should contact person who sold you this mainboard and ask for password. If he cannot help, send it back. Was this info in product description on his ebay offer?

Hello, all. I promise I searched for this answer but I cannot find it, and using the "Logon Workshop" program was of no help. I have already removed the user picture frame and version branding from my logon screen, but I would like to remove the username as well, leaving on the box to type in my password.

Please advise. Thank you all in advance for your time and great job offering the myriad support you already have!

A:How do I remove the user name from logon, leaving only password box?

Hello KakaruPilot, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's not exactly what you are wanting, but if you like, you could set it to where users must enter both a user name and password to not see the user names.

Log On with User Name and Password

Hope this helps,

Hi again all,

I've just bought a second hand hard drive which I've discovered has a "Hard Drive User Password" on it, is it at all possible to remove this password?

I don't mind if it wipes all the data from it as the drive is going to be wiped anyway.

The laptop will not let me boot from any CD without putting in the hard drive's password which is really annoying as I was hoping to use "Active Killdisk" to remove it but it won't let me get as far as to boot from the CD when the hard drive is connected in the laptop.

The hard drive is a Western Digital WD1600BEVS, is there a way of completely wiping it so the password is removed?

Many kind thanks

A:Can I remove a hard drive user password?

How are you connecting the hard drive? Is it internal to the PC, using a cable to the motherboard? Or, is it external to the PC, using drive case and a USB cable?

I went on vacation recently and before leaving, I created a password for my computers (Control Panel -> User Accounts) so that the guy (I did it mainly for his unknown friends he brings over) who was looking after the house, couldn't use them while we were away. When I got back and tried removing the password on the BenQ, I saw there was no "Remove my password" choice to click on in the User Accounts. There's a link to change my password but none to remove it. So now, I'm stuck having to type my password every time I turn on or restart my system. The system with the problem is a BenQ brand (o/a 4+ years old) with XP-Pro on it. (3.2Ghz cpu with 1-1/2Gb ram)Please see the BenQ screenshot of the User Accounts window to see what I'm talking about at: http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/9113/pa...problem7910.jpgMy other PC (next to the BenQ) is an eMachine with XP-Media Center Edition on it. (3.06Ghz cpu with 2Gb ram) and I had no problem removing my password since the "Remove my password" link is there to click on. Please see the eMachine screenshot of this window to compare the windows of each system at: http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6461/re...wordvisible.jpgAnybody got a solution or ideas for me to get this password removed...and get the "Remove my password" link back in place where it belongs?Thanx so much in advance!!

Click on change my password and leave the line that you would normally put a different password into blank and see if it will accept it.

I have a domain joined Surface Pro 2 running 8.1 Pro.
The following GPO settings are in place:

* Assign a default domain for logon

* Do not display last logged on user

* Disable logging in with Microsoft accounts - uses the following registry setting - MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\NoConnectedUser - Value = 3

The end goal is for the machine to boot to the login screen that just displays empty user name and password fields
The problem at the moment is that instead of doing that, the client boots to a screen where the only option is to click on "Other user". Only then does the login screen I want, where they enter their username and password in full, actually appear.
These Surface Pro 2's are to be used by small children, and have the "Other User" screen appear is confusing for them, as well as being very annoying for me. It's completely unnecessary.
I've searched all over the 'net looking for an easy way to get the client to boot straight to the standard domain joined log in screen, but every time it just boots to this "Other User" screen that has to be clicked on in order to get the correct
login screen to come up.
Is there any way I can get this to boot straight to the login screen I want?

I received a new laptop at work to install Windows 10 Pro on. It previously had Windows 8 Home but I did a clean install of Windows 10 and upgraded it to Pro using a valid key. The issue I'm facing now is that when I try to login, I get the "Password is incorrect issue" many times trying to login with a domain controller user account. I've searched and have found no answers. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? I'm currently on Build14393.

I assume the upgrade to Pro, which simply installed the 'Pro' features on top of the Windows 10 Home upgrade, didn't fully install the domain functions? There was no option for me to do a clean install of Windows Pro from USB. I'm just throwing that out there just in case.

I have three Windows 7 systems and two XP systems presently on the network, all with full updates. One of the XP systems named "Shop" is inaccessible from any other system. Also Shop cannot access other systems even though it has good internet access through the same network.

I get "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" error when attempting to log in from any remote system.

All computers are on the same router and workgroup. All computers have good access to the internet through the same router. All computers have the same user log-on names and same passwords for those names. All firewalls are turned off. None of the computers are wireless. I can successfully ping the problem system from any other system.

I've tried both enabling and disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP (currently enabled). I've added IRPStackSize to the registry and then increased it in increments of 10 all the way up to 40 (currently set back down to 16) and all that does is change the error from the one in the title of this post to a box that says "Windows cannot access \\Shop, error code 0x80070035, The network path was not found."

I've attempted no configuration changes on other machines as they all communicate well including the other XP system.

I'm bumfuzzeled!

Dell have recently added additional security to some of their laptop range - if you have somehow triggered this security you will have to contact Dell, and supply them with full details of the laptop, including serial and reference and full proof of purchase - they can then remove the password free of charge

I decided that I didn't want that setup and since it was a fresh image of windows, a re-image would be a quicker and easier fix to this issue. However, the BIOS security features still remain and now all the previous software the was used to setup the BIOS security is no longer on the laptop. How can I go about removing this security feature now that I've re-imaged the laptop? Thanks

Hello all,

I hope I can get some help / guidance from some one with more experience with the M400 if possible?!

I reinstalled the OS and setup the biometric security for me, which has worked flawlessly! However I stupidly also set up the boot up security (BIOS Password). So when the tablet gets turned on I can scan my finger and get in without any issues, however I now want to turn the boot up security off. So I booted it in to the OS and went to disable it....however it asks for my password....which I have forgot as I have been a typical end user and have been only using my bloody finger!

Does anyone know if I can disable the BIOS security while in the OS using the biomentric security rather than entering a password? I have tried just changing the admin password within the win OS but that doesn't work....any ideas?

Any help with be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
