Y510p - Out-of-warranty Repairs

Q: Y510p - Out-of-warranty Repairs

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Is there a way I can schedule a repair through Lenovo?

Thought I would pick your brain here because I am out of ideas and told my friend to reformat the laptop.

She called me to tell me that her computer will start, go through like a "repair" sequence, then do an "update" sequence (like windows updates)..then restart, and go through the SAME THING again and never booting to Windows. It is a vicious circle it is in. She told me that she never interrupted any Windows updates while they were going on in the past so I really don't know what lead the PC to this behavior. They let the laptop even sit and go through this for like 3 hours and it just keeps doing it.

Apparently the recover CD thing isn't working, either, for her, to get it out of this funk.

She really doesn't want to reformat it in case she has something on there that isn't backed up, but I honestly have no other answers for her.

Anyone know what is going on with this thing and why? Any other solutions besides a reformat?

Thanks in advance!

i have an emachines model T2895 that stopped working. i was hoping that just the power supply died. i took it to a pc repair shop. the owner told me that when the power supply went, it spiked the motherboard. he said that the price of a power supply, motherboard, and new windows xp (because i couldnt just use the restore disk with the new motherboard) would cost more than just buying a new pc all together. he told me that he would be more than glad to repair it, but i should scrap it, or fix it for a backup, and just get a new pc. does this sound right, and if i decide to repair it myself, where could i get the parts ? any suggestions ? thx in advance

So I got the good old "bootmgr is missing" error and after trying some of the remedies I decided to take it to the shop (i dont have the recovery disks unfortunately). The shop calls me the next day and tells me that by hard drive is fried. My only option is to pay for a new hard drive and backup my things. My question to you guys is... If my hard drive is fried and my bootmgr file is missing (as in my system can't boot up), then how can these guys know exactly how much space my files are taking up. I mean the guy said that My Documents has 23 GB of files on there. Is it possible for them to know these specific things in a situation like this? Asking your opinions before I go throw my money away. Not sure if they're just trying to cheat me into paying for a new hard drive.

Thanks for your help!

A:getting cheated on repairs?

Well "fried" is not a technical term and could be used by the guy to mean the drive is failing; many techs dumb down the terminology for customers rather then saying "The WD diagnostics reported a read element failure with exit code 007". The drive may have some bad sectors, unreadable areas, on the platters and that could be the problem and that may be enough to prevent it from booting but make the drive accessible to be viewed and data copied. But the error could also be from a file system corruption, malware, or something else. Or they see selling you a new drive the easiest way to fix the issue or make some money. If you don't trust them then take the computer back and test the drive yourself or take it somewhere else.

I miss ntbackup. At least the damn thing worked, even though the window wouldn't let you go full screen or adjust the size to well.

I really don't like the new system repair or the backup utility.
For one, I believe the home edition is restricted?

The only way I have been able to do a repair installation is by doing an in place upgrade, while booted into the operating system. This is a nightmare for a number of reasons.

Is there a way to do a (operating) system repair like with xp?
There are times when SFC /scannow just refuses to run for me.

Is there anyway I can get NTBackup installed on 7? I have tried, the DLL's were to outdated, and replaced by current files that were not compatible. I did not want to overwrite them.

Are there any other free backup utilities you recommend?

Don't you just want to pull your hair out when a business runs home edition?

How does the licensing work with 7?
Will a Dell OEM disk still work on an HP or other brand?

A:Backups/repairs what now?

Just remembered another important question.

It is very common for me to have to take a hard drive out, and connect it to another computer to get a backup. You know... when things really go bad.

The problem is certain files are pretty well restricted, even when I try to assign myself permissions to these files.
I guess I could boot to a linux OS and copy them that way...

How do I deal with permissions of certian directories that are restricted?
For example users\%username%\appdata.
I don't remember if that one specifically is restricted, but I want to make sure I have good backups. I know certain temp files are restricted..

Anyone run into this or have advice?

I've sent my laptop to Acer Repair Service because the screen is broken and the system won't boot. When I was talking to the technician on the phone, I mentiomed the screen problem and the system problem. But when I got the email from Acer, it had said System Won't Boot in the information. Just to mention the fan has a slight crack and some keys are missing. Will Acer repair my screen, and os and maybe even the keyboard on my model or will they just do what the email had said was the problem.

My client has ended up with three Yoga 500s with broken screens which they've asked me to see can be repaired. They are out of warranty and don't have any kind of accidental damage insurance - I've suggested they do look at this as they seem rather clumsy recently :-) But a simple question - does Lenovo offer an out of warranty repair service in the UK? Secondary question - any recommendations for 3rd party repair services? I guess it will be a relatively easy repair that I could do myself but hardest part is finding the part number and a supplier of parts. Thanks, Rob.

Having searched and finding no references...
I have a Logitech FX Marble type trackball.
The cable got caught on the keyboard drawer slide and the mouse stopped working.
Now this is an $80.00 product. Logitech's response? Sorry anything out of warranty is tough luck.
If it were in warranty they replace or repair, but no they have no service depots. If no longer under warranty, no repairs.
I'll never be stupid enough to buy Logitech again and I recommend against to all I advise; now.
I have tried in vain to find a source for a PS/2 cable with 6 signal lines and a shield. I can reattach the connector pins easily enough IF I can find a proper cable. All the ones I've tried to salvage are short one or two signal lines.
I cannot believe the arrogance of these computer parts manufacturers. For want of 50cents worth of cable, an $80.00 mouse is dead. Patently ridiculous.
Interestingly I have not even been able to find a PS/2 cable connector that wasn't an already molded assembly. Any hardware techs out there with a source for PS2 cable assemblies?
Thanks all!

You can look here, only option would be to buy a mouse cable extender and cut one end off it you can find the right wire configuration, sorry best I can come up with

The biggest problem is that my power port pin is busted and I can't power it up rendering it useless.

Is it just a matter of buying one of these and finding someone to install it for me...http://www.laptoprepairco.com/searchbrand/searchbrand.asp?submitted=6#dcjack

Anyone know which DC Power jack I need for my 600x? I'd be happy to do a $100 repair instead of buying a new laptop.

Thanks.

EDIT: I think I found some on ebay for $9, but they must be soldered onto the motherboard.

A:Gateway 600 needs some repairs

All of them have to be soldered - no tape+knife ugliness here. The soldering job is easy - ripping the lappy apart will be the biggest challenge.

You should try to get a new port that is exactly like your old one. The pin placement and the port height are the most important - you do want the thing to fit The hole/pin size is not that critical, since you can always replace the plug coming from your AC adapter.

Client with Dell laptop had a hard disk with numerous bad sectors. (Refused to boot at all. I pulled th drive and ran chkdsk /r; it found and replaced more than a dozen bad sectors. He said the laptop was oddly slow from when he bought it new.) I cloned the "repaired" drive and his laptop now boots, but...he has some real problems. (On the positive side he said it boots a LOT faster with the new drive.) I told him we need to re-install the OS but he is very reluctant as he has a some oddball specialized apps and is far from home. (He is here in Fiji for almost a year.) At random times, the OS decides it is non-genuine. Usually, just going the system properties page causes Windows to decide it IS activated and be okay. A few boot later and it is no longer 'genuine.' When I tried to download and install the 'Genuine' ActiveX plug-in to re-activate, the stub downloads okay, but when it tries to run, it crashes with 80072EE7 (0). (The hosts file has NO entries so that is not what is happening.) The other immediate oddity is he cannot run Windows Update. It says "service is not running" but the WU service says it is running. I tried SFC /scannow and it reports that it found problems but cannot fix them.

Ordinarily I would simply insist on a clean install but the guy says his others apps run and he'd rather live with odd problems than lose his apps. Any suggestions as to what might help with at least getting Win Update to run and stabil... Read more

I am sure you know, but it did not of course replace the bad sectors
It cannot do that, it simply attempts to recover the data from the bad sector and re-write it to a good sector
It then marks the sector as bad to prevent data being re-written to it.

In my experience when you cloned - you will very likely have cloned the bad sectors and indeed any newly corrupted data
If you have not done so your first approach should be to re run chkdsk on the new drive
until and if it reports no file errors

The info file data that was contained in the bad sectors is not cloned, but the bad sectors listed in the MFT are and you should run the chkdsk on the chkdsk /b to reset bad sectors

Hi, I'm trying to repair a friends PC. The 120GB drive C: is formatted as FAT32 and on trying to convert it to NTFS i got the message that 32K is in Bad Sectors.

I ran Chkdsk but nothing came up! Then i tried copying the drive with Norton Partition Magic to another hard drive - but on checking it had put the "bad sector" on the new drive! (fortunately it wasn't permanent and i was able to delete it and that drive is back to normal)

It's only 10 or so tiny files in the Temporary Internet Files folder that when I try to delete i get the message "Cannot delete - cannot find the specified file."

At boot CHKDSK is frequently run automatically (i assume because of this sector error) but the problem is never corrected. [I've tried a couple of 'hard disk repair' apps without success]
HELP!
Thanks in advance.

Hello, first time at the forums.

I am running windows 8.1, while watching a Youtube video i got a bluescreen, i cant remember any error code or such but i remember it was stuck at 100% forever so i decided to manualy shut down my PC.
After i started it back up again it entered "Attempting repairs" which it failed at, then i got a new screen where i had some options to chose from, i tried every one of them such as system restore but none of them worked, only one i havnt tried yet is "Reset your PC".

I searched google a bit and found this guide: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot - Windows 7 Help Forums

I ran Windows Defender Offline, for about 8 hours it scanned and it found some viruses i dont have the log but it said it was succesfull at removing them, however it didnt change anything, still stuck at "Attempting repairs".

I did get another screen a few times when starting the PC which just said that windows couldn't start and asked me to insert the windows CD, which i dont have.

A weird thing i noticed was that when i opened the command prompt from the advanced options in automatic repair it said that my drive letter was "G" so it said "G:\Windows" but i know i installed windows to the C drive, i removed all my other HDDs and made sure my SSD(which i installed windows to) was properly plugged in and started the PC, after that it said that my drive letter was "X". I'm not quite sure what the problem is but here is what my laptop keeps doing:

-startup repair appears when I start my laptop
-it prompts me to use a system restore point which I do use
-it says restore was successful

Then I continue to use the laptop for whatever I need and when I shut it down it does the installs new updates. Then the next day it needs to do a startup repair again. And I need to re-do those updates like before.

This has happened several times now.
Any ideas as to what's wrong?

Hi All,

A number of issues after an attempted repair by the user:

Windows search doesn't function; it comes back with a class not registered error
It has an incomplete programs list
Programs indicate they uninstalled, but they are not.
There are still some items, PUPs, that are detected on scans
It's fairly obvious by some of the installed programs that they may have used CCleaner, MalwareBytes(Premium Trial installed0, HitmanPro installed locally, and this may have caused some of the problems with improper usage.
The amount of user data and applications seems minimal, and would appear easy to backup.

Is it worth going through a malware removal and fixes, at this point, or better to return the PC to factory state. It appears that the restore partition is intact.

Thanks for all of the help.

Some time ago I had my Psu fail from overheating and I am having problems getting the things back online. I purchased and installed a new Psu (Ultra 400W.) After I started the computer back up I find out that it won't POST. So I reset the CMOS and got the computer to POST and get into the BIOS. After this I find that the only way I can get my OS to boot is to underclock my memory and processor down to 200Mhz FSB from 333MHz. This lets me into the OS but it will randomly restart sometimes as if the restart button is pressed. At first I thought that this was all caused by a faulty mobo but I bought a brand new one and had the same problem. Then I thought it might be because of memory but I bought different memory and had the same problem. Then I replaced the processor and had the same problem. Now the problem has progessed so now that if I underclock in the BIOS I can get windows load (safe more, start windows normally, etc.) screen but the computer just freezes at this point or freezes after the list of drivers loaded if I choose safe mode. If I try to start the comp at full speed the POST beeps once and the primary HDD starts spinning and nothing happens. I am wondering if this is a clue to a hard drive problem. A:Post Psu blowout repairs

Try another PSU, this sounds like the problem..

If that overheat of the PSU was on an older board, and you bought a new PSU and then a new motherboard, and then you had to underclock it for the OS to boot, then it should be the power supplies fault or something along that line.

It could have stuffed up a lot of things, seeing as you have to unplug your keyboard and plug it back in to get it to recognise it. Check your CMOS again and set it to default safe mode. Set everything back to normal clock speeds, and start again.

And for reference, make your 60GIG master and your 160GIG slave, format and reload a fresh OS on the 60 GIG. It really doesn't matter which one you put the OS on, but just make sure you install a fresh copy of the OS after you've set CMOS.

If nothing works, get a new BIOS chip or flash it.

I purchased my Thinkpad 450S directly from Lenovo website and received it on January 4, 2016.  Two weeks later it totally crashed and would not even start up in safe mode.  Received a USB recovery device.  Started to recover and then crashed.  Could not get it to work.  Called support and they sent a box out for me to send it back for repairs.  Now a part is on back order.  Here's my question.  Why don't they just send me a new one since obviously I received a defective one and be done with it?  I own my own business and this is killing me right now.  My HP laptop is barely holding on.  This is the busiest time of year for me and I am running out of patience.  Has anyone ever had this type of experience?  Who do I need to talk to at Lenovo to get this resolved?  The support personnel can only do so much and I am not really upset with them.  I am thinking I should have gone back to HP.  Feeling frustrated.

Is this a brand-name computer (Dell, HP, E-Machines, etc.)?

If so, follow their procedure (either booting to the recovery cd or activating the recovery partition during POST).

If not ... Make sure you have all your device drivers (Sound, Video, etc.)

Boot to your XP cd, Press ENTER at the first screen, Press F8 at the next, Press ESC when asked if you want to repair an existing install, highlight the C drive, Press ENTER, and choose Format NTFS.

I have an acer aspire t690 and epson stylus cx5000 printer. When I installed the software that came with the printer the dvd drive disappeared from the list of drives in the vista computer directory. I looked in the device manager and found the dvd drive had a conflict but could not find the source of the problem so I took the option of restoring to factory default and began again watching for what caused the problem. As I said before the problem occurred again as I was installing the software for the scanner and other parts of the printer. I was wondering if i could backup the registry and the install the drivers and restore the registry again. Where can I find more info about the vista registry? And would CDGONE work for my problem?

My GF's computer just won't boot up. It looks for an issue and evidently determines it's a disk error which it fails to repair. There is one restore point and it fails to restore it. It just keeps trying to repair the disk on every bootup. It was working fine last night and there haven't been any new installs or anything. No idea what to do beyond reinstalling Windows 7 and she REALLY doesn't want to lose some of the Data she has on it.

My laptop's motherboard recently stopped working, and it is no longer within the extended 3yr warranty I purchased for it 3 years ago. That warranty expired on October 17, 2015. But HP repaired my laptop's motherboard in July of 2016, and I want to know if there is a separate warranty they put on laptop motherboards when they repair them, beyond the 90-day warranty they provide for products they repair. Do motherboards get their own separate warranty? I'm asking this because I don't quite have the finances right now to buy another laptop. If someone could please answer this for me, I would be most appreciative. Thank you and have a nice day.

Those errors are fairly common - and are possibly the result of using out-of-date drivers.
The files come from the User Mode Driver Framework update - you could uninstall that update, or update drivers that rely on earlier versions.
As a guess. I would suggest updating your IRST drivers.
try downloading

I decided to finally upgrade a few days ago. Operated for 2 days with no issue. Updated my Graphics driver, played a game for a few hours. Mid game, the screen froze. I could still hear things going on in the background, even managed to blindly get into a fight and died. So I powered off the machine and it booted to "Preparing Automatic Repair" --> "Diagnosing your PC" --> Attempting Repairs. I want to keep my files and don't want to have to reinstall Win 7, then upgrade to Win 8 to 8.1 to 10 all over again.

Now this is probably not occurring a lot but i was just wondering. I have a registry cleaner that a used a while back to "clean" the registry and i ran it found a quite large lists of problems (or whatever its called). And i told the program to repair them all at one time. Then after a while i started using programs and they wouldn?t work. ie. MSN Live messenger and many other messengers, and a few other programs crash sometimes. I believe it?s the registry because after when i was surfing ran into a discussion about windows registries and modifying/scanning them can really screw up your computer. I don?t believe i actually backed up the registry b4 i did the large fix but i do have 2/3 other backups of previous ones, but the issue is that some of them are 1 or more years old. So, i want the communities input and help to repair. is it ok to use a backup from 1 year ago when I do so many things on the computer from that time. Would it like change back and update to what I have now on my computer. Sorry, if some of this doesn?t make sense pertaining to the registry but I?m not very knowledgeable in registry issues.
Now i feel bad and want my computer to be better.

Greetings all,

After attempted cleanup of desktophighjack.C (with hijackthis, adware, MS Anti-spy) my desktop has major problems. On boot, correct wallpaper is displayed and then as it starts up auto-start programs it gets stuck with explorer.exe taking 99% CPU. No icons are displayed and start button does not work. I can run hijackthis if it is auto start.

Same happens in safe mode except CPU is taken over by one of the auto startup programs.

TaskManager runs fine at all times except it locks up when I try to use Create New Task option to run something.

Safe mode with command line is the only way to get anything done - I can run hijackthis and MS ANTI-SPY fine but cwshredder and spybot SD 'run in memory' but do not display anything. Cannot run iexplorer to download anything new to help analyse or clear things up but I can copy files to/from USB memory device. So I can replace files if I knew what to replace and retrieve the 2 hijackthis log's - see below...(running

Looking foward to your suggestions - many thanks in advance!

Ok so last night and began to have problems starting up my comp. i have windows 7 64 bit. it would get to the "Starting Windows" screen with the little pulsing logo and then freeze there forever. after forcing a shutdown once or twice it began attempting repairs. it would run checkdisk and find corrupted file and delete them. this happened several times at boot up. often it would freeze after this and not let me enter repair screen. so i loaded up the win 7 disk and tried to repair it from the disk. lo and behold it is not finding an installed copy of win 7. does this mean my os is gone? corrupted? could my hard drive have failed? i dont think its the memory but i have not been able to see the memcheck results since i cant boot up. is there anything i can do or must i reinstall windows. i dont want to loose all my files but do i have any other option? please help.

I am running IE9 on a Dell XPS M1330 laptop
I have tried all conventional methods of repairing my machine
IE9 tries to start but bleeps out after a few seconds.
run> iexplore shows nothing found
No restore points so I can't do a system restore

I tried to download an FTP software off the net and it had several "attachments"
I think I have them all wiped out now
all addons have been disabled
I ran Norton's also and the registries are clear
When I try to reinstall IE9 it says I need an update and tries to open the update page in IE
IE dies and since I'm having to use firefox to get here, I can't tell what update I need
I have downloaded every update on the Microsoft site for vista and nothing works.

Problem started when I noticed all the icons on the desktop were inoperable
You have to right click and go to >open
Iexplore seems to have been uninstalled when I uninstalled the attachments and it won;t reinstall. No base software can be found when in run> mode

This is very frustrating, Please advise

They said it will take 5-7 buisness days and have kept me updated well on its repair status ever since. However it has been currently 4 days since my Laptop arrived at the repair centre and I havn't heard about it since.  I absolutely need this Laptop on the 3/11/2016 due to important school assignments (I am currently using a Library computer which limits me to 2 hours a day) What I am asking for is an update on the repair status of my Laptop and hopefully an approximation on when it will come. Hi, I have a friend with the above-named model. It was knocked off a table recently and now the display is problematic. There's still a picture, but it's all jumbled and can only be viewed with an external monitor plugged in. The built-in wireless is also not working, so it's not only the display that was damaged. My question is: Do these symptoms point to any one specific thing (i.e. system board), or does it look like both the display and wlan adapter would need to be replaced? Are there any particular tests that can be run to narrow it down? And, once that's determined, any ideas on roughly how much the replacement parts would cost? I'm guessing, given the age of the laptop, it'll probably cost more to repair than it's worth. But I need to gather the numbers first before I can advise my friend accordingly. Any info you can supply would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi, Dropping a computer can have unpredictable damages unless you bring it to a repair shop to have a closer look. Finding spare parts for it now could be very hard now and yes, this may cost more than its value. My suggestion: tell your friend use it with an external monitor for a while and buy new machine. Regards.

I have my window 7 disk and even with that I can't seem to bring it to the desk top screen ...any idea what I can do

A:Never ending system repairs loop

Hello Jeffrey and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you able to access the Avanced Boot Options menu and boot into Safe Mode?

Advanced Boot Options

If yes, you could try using a restore point to roll back your machine to a date/time prior to installing all those updates, programs, etc. If no restore points are available you could manually uninstall through Control Panel > Programs and Features. It's possible that an update or program installation corrupted your operating system.

System Restore

Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

I'd then check for any damaged or couurpt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hello everyone. I've got a MSI GE70 Apache Pro laptop that needs to be sent in for repairs for what seems to be a hardware problem with the screen. While that's a problem in and of itself, I don't think it's something I can fix myself and the warranty is still valid, so I'd like to send it in for repairs with the MSI service center. This leads to my two questions:

1) Is it safe to send a computer through a mail service? (Post Canada, Fedex, USPS, anything of the sort.) I'm concerned my computer would accumulate more damage along the way if its package was thrown around. There's no easy way for me to get the computer there and back otherwise, though, as the service center is nearly 2000km away.

2) Should I system restore my computer before sending it out? I certainly don't want any employees snooping around in my files. I see that encryption may be an option, but I have no experience with file encryption and don't want to inadvertently lock the techs out of my computer entirely, as they might need to check settings or what not to help fix my problem.

I look forward to hearing your advice. Thanks!

A:Questions about sending a computer in for repairs

Dell Studio XPS 8100 - new hard disk 2 weeks old

"Attempting Repairs" seems to have made some progress since I get the MS Windows screen, but without any desktop tools or folders.

"Startup Repair" seems to ignore installation disk or repair disk.

Probable mistake made: I saved MS Word files onto the desktop to get a quicker working start in the morning. It worked fine for several days. But on reflection it makes sense that I was asking for trouble.

I saved the work externally, so I can carry on working on the laptop, but it's a pain - I'd love some help to get back to the PC.

With thanks for your consideration,
Ulrike

A:Windows 7 - attempting repairs won't stop

saving word files to desktop would not have caused your problems. Try doing a system restore to a restore point to just prior to the problems.

After sending computer to shop, it would hardly download photo files (1 per 5 seconds). Looking at some of the files I noticed several small red circles with marks or what appeared to be red marks next to some of the files. Sent computer back to shop, I'm worried that they don't know what they are doing. Originally monitors did not detect signal and would not boot up properly. Any comments would be helpful. When I received it after their first attempt they told me that they had reloaded my ATI drivers and that is when I discovered the slow downloading and red marks.

A:Red marks or circles by files after repairs

can you post a screenshot of what you are talking about.

carbonite puts circles next to file to be backed up. but i think they are orange and green.

what program is set as the default viewer for these files?

what do you mean 1 every 5 seconds downloading? downloading from what?

I have an Acer Travelmate 5510, and when I turned it on this morning it came up with a black screen with white font telling me that software or hardware has malfunctioned and they recommend I use the start up repair. Im also given the option to start windows normally.
If I start windows normally it goes to a black screen and nothing happens, not even when I left it for hours.
If I select the start up repair, it says it is testing the system which may take several minutes, however its been the same screen for hours.
This is the second attempt, the first time I clicked on the Diagnosis after cancelling it and it has a long list of all the tests carried out, with the same error (Code = 0x0)
I dont get any other options when I reboot and Im really not sure what's happened or how I can solve this.
I will be so grateful if someone can help me, sorry if this post isn't very clear, I'm not great with technology. x

ps. please help, I'm desperate, got a lot of deadlines next week!

A:Compaq nc6220 Repairs Needed

Was there plastic damage done? Is the screen cracked? I can see how a fall would damage rthe screen or the cable to the screen but how it would damage the wi-fi I do not know. The nc6220 is now fully obsolete. Your best bet is to buy a parts unit that works but is just missing the hard drive and AC adapter and consolidate until you get one working unit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Compaq-nc6220-Windows-XP-Laptop-Powers-on-Sold-As-Is-/272223408213?hash=i...

I noticed after having my laptop for about 2 weeks, that the port area in the top left corner was bending/splitting apart where the top and bottom cases joined.  I hadn't dropped it, looked carefully and didn't see any place that it would have fastened together previously, so assumed it was a defect and I would send it back for repair.  Since I could find no online repair request system (seriously, **bleep**?) I had to wait until I had time to call, which took about a week.  I was informed that if my laptop was 21 or less days, they would fix it or send me a new one.  It was 22.  The guy took pity on me and said they would repair it for free anyway, and it would take about a week. I printed the tag, waited a few days till there was a lull at work, and sent it in, crossing my fingers that I would get it back before I got slammed.  It wasn't even recieved by the repair depot for almost a week.  Then, it took them 3 days before they looked at it.  Then, they called and told me I had to call back during normal business hours (again, no way to do this without waiting on hold), and authorize $180 worth of repair, or they would send it back to me still broken, because I obviously dropped it (Though, no, I didn't).  I asked if I could see pictures/evidence that I had dropped it.  They promised they would send it, I authorized the repairs, because the thing is brand new, and I don't want it coming apart.  They said it would be rep... I need to send my computer to the shop for repairs.

It's got lots of important personal data on it including emails in Outlook.

Is there some way to secure all of this data without deleting everything?

The repair guy will just need basic access to the system -- it's just a screen problem (I hope). I can't see why he'd need to run any of my apps.

Thanks

I notice that after i run these commands in powershell or cmd: sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} .

and run sfc /scannow again, I always get this. . It seems like my windows is always corrupted and I think that is causing my to get start menu, search menu, and task bar issues after standying by.

Anybody know what's wrong with my computer?

EDIT: I have to do a clean install apparently, also the Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register ?$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml?} command broke my apps.

A:Windows files always corrupted even after repairs?

Hi, running the Powershell command has not been recommended since build 10586 (November) came out.. it tends to break apps. You then see @ before their names in the start menu.

To fix this, you are recommended to do an in-place upgrade repair install (you can find instructions in the Tutorials section).

This will:
- keep most of your settings
- keep your programs
- turn system restore off
- restore all Windows apps
- take up to 2 hours
- lose all Windows updates since the last major build (10586)
- create Windows.old

You need a Windows installation medium.

Noted you have a Radeon card: problems have been reported with one dll related to Nvidia cards as regards the cbs .log. You would have to inspect your log to determine what it says.. but that's irrelevant if you do the repair install.

Post back if you still have your other problem.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

Then i got my computer back, NOTHING CHANGED, same problems and all, what should i do?!  I have already soft-reseted, reseted bios and reseted whole system, nothing works!  Could you please be in touch with the store i bought it from, because I want my money back for not-working laptop worth 1200e in my country. They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! Is it possible to overclock the GPU and CPU a lil' bit in my y510p ?? If yes, could you please tell me how much can i boost it up and if it's worth it though...?

Solved!

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

First thing to do is go into the BIOS (F10 as you power on) and do the hard drive self-test diagnostic and let's see if the hard drive has a mechanical problem. If the hard drive is mechnically OK you may have to somehow reinstall Windows.

Whole problem started when i tried to put some new music on my SD card. Clicked the SD card under my computer, explorer froze, shut down and restarted itself. Clicked another one of the externals that i thing was for a flash drive. Explorer froze again and wouldn't close from task manager and computer wouldn't restart from the ctrl-alt-delete menu to I shut it down manually.

When I turned it back on I got a tan strip about a third of the way up my screen and it gave me the menu to start normally or in safe mode and a couple other options, I started normally. After being stuck at the loading screen that just says microsoft with green bars passing through the white bar for probably 10 minutes, I shut it down manually again. (i know, probably a bad idea but it didn't seem to be going anywhere) Now when I turn it on it just has the menu to repair which it says it has done successfully eventually. After this, it reboots and goes to the same Microsoft loading screen. I've left it there for half and hour with nothing happening.

Any help on how I can get my computer running again, preferably without losing all of my memory?

A:Windows repairs then stuck at loading screen

Nevermind, just had to start normally again, very sorry for wasted thread, please delete.

Hello Jarrod and welcome to Seven Forums.

First, it would help a lot if you could provide your system specs. At the top of any Forum page click on "User CP". Then in the left column click on "Edit System Spec". Fill out as much info as you can. A free tool called Speccy can give you all the info.

Can you access Advanced Boot Options and start your computer in Safe Mode?

Advanced Boot Options

If yes, try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two, SFC tutorial.) This scan will attempt to locate damaged or corrupt system files and replace them with a fresh copy. If problems are found, run the scan 3 times rebooting backing into Safe Mode after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Once the scan(s) are run, see if you can start your computer normally (without going into Safe Mode.) But if the SFC scan shows no integrity violations it means it didn't find any problems. Or if it shows that some files were fixed but others could not be fixed it will be necessary to try other troubleshooting steps. one of the Forum experts prepared these two troubleshooting tutorials. They are time consuming but have helped many to solve their problems. They can also provide information about whether or not your hard drive (or other hardware like RAM, motherboard, etc.) is failing.

So I got a tablet infected with loads of viruses from Minecraft mods. Ran Malwarebytes and Avast which removed a majority of the infections, but decided to run Hitman Pro and some others to make sure everything was clean. HitmanPro found some fairly large infections, so I removed the infections and went to reboot. Now, when rebooting, it goes directly to "Preparing Automatic Repair." It attempts repairs, and then says it cannot solve the problem. Strangely, when opening the log for Startup Repair, it mentions it found hitmanpro37.sys as corrupt and lists it as a possible boot problem. Not sure how I would fix that. It restores after deleting only icloud not itunes. after restore i didn't download the video conversion software( thought it may b reason). still it didn't work. Is the icloud reason for it? it deletes all my antivirus updates, after every start up antivirus shows system in risk and downloads nearly 90mb updates every start up. plz help me

A:system repairs starts after every time at startup

Hi,
You can try few things:
1) Just update your anti-virus program on the computer and check if it works fine.
2) If that works then install Icloud, before you do that ensure that system restore point is created.
