Q: I would like to upgrade my HP2000 notebook from HDD to SSD. ...

I brought my notebook into a computer tech and he tried to install 3 SSDs to no avail. I would like to install a 120GB SSD if at all possible. The error received was that it was unable to connect. Two of the SSDS were Kingstons and the other one was a Toshiba. My sense is that he did not seek to find out what SSDs were compabile with this laptop. This computer originally came with Windows 8 installed.

I would like to upgrade my current CPU ( Intel Core i3-3120m / Ivy Bridge) in my HP2000-2d22DX.  This laptop uses an HP-1854 model motherboard.  It is using an Ivy Bridge Chipset and a Southbridge  Intel-HM75 chipset. The Bios is currently at revision F.3C (Insyde).   I was looking to use the Core i7-3540M.   I know its not much of an upgrade but I can get it dirt cheap if it'll work.  Everything looks like it's good to go specification wise, but I know that doesn't mean squat when it comes to OEM boards.

I have a HP2000 I bought about a year ago.  It has 4g of memory which isn't turning out to be enough for a Ph.d CS project I'm working on.  Since I'm a student, I don't have enough money to buy another whole laptop.  So, is it possible to get another 2g of memory installed in this laptop?  I can do the installing myself (the warrantee has already been voided by my installing Linux on this machine a year ago) so all I want to buy is the part, not the installation. Is that possible?

A:Would like to upgrade memory on my HP2000 laptop

Hi, HP 2000 is a series of dozens models, what is yours ? Anyway, based on the following link, a tipical HP 200 can have 8Gb of RAM:    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-3848802-3848802-5091493-5128938.html?dnr=1 There are few questions you need to answer: 1. What is the OS of your machine ? 32 bit OS can't address to anything more than 4Gb in this case.2. What is the current configuration ? 2 x 2 or 4 x 1 because the machine has only 2 slots for RAM. From there you can work our the number you need. You can check the following link to buy RAM for your machine:    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP-memory/HP+2000+Series-models.html Regards.

I turned it back on and there was just an HP logo and it would go black and 30 seconds later back to the HP logo In a loop. I turned off my laptop and turned it on while clicking F9 for system recovery, I tried all the options and I can't get back to the homepage and lost my OS. Hello everyone, I need help with the family's laptop, it's a Hewlet Packard 2000 which came with Windows 7 installed but due to an upgrade program from retailer, it's running on Windows 8 now, it worked good for at least 2 years then it started having strange performance issues like having to click a second time on any link in order to open it and some temporary freezes when browsing the internet. I used Kaspersky online scan but never detected any problem except for the "vulnerabilities" like autorun from divices and such.

Last week I tried to get into my e-mail a second time and received a message from them(Yahoo) stating they detected suspicious activity and I have to change my Pass Word. I decided to use Panda Active scan and see if there was some malware and then things got A LOT stranger. First time I ran Panda (Cloud Cleaner is the available option for Windows 8) it took from 7:55pm Friday until 9:22pm Saturday and when the scan was around 80% the PC restarted by itself, no one touched it, so I decided to try again and after more than 9 hours and at 85.5% complete, it did not restart but I got send back to the "Tiles screen" as when the PC is turned on. So I noticed that something prevents the scan from going to certain areas, so I did a selective scan, I don't remember the areas I scanned but I have the report of the viruses and malware found if you need it.

After that I decided to try once more but this time with ESET online scan. This scan... Read more

A:Notebook CPU upgrade

I strongly suggest you forget about the idea. The difference isn't worth the trouble of the conversion, and it's frequently very difficult to swap processors in laptops. In general, if you gain less than a 1.5:1 improvement in processor speed, you'll notice very little difference in visual performance.

Hey Everyone,

I'd like to upgrade my Notebook hard drive to an SSD, what are some of the things I should be looking for to upgrade successfully, and will this affect my Windows 10 License?

A:How do I upgrade my notebook to an SSD

For some people, upgrading a notebook to an SSD may be like diving into the deep end of a swimming pool. An SSD upgrade may involve extensive disassembly of your notebook, depending on the model. Some models have hard disks that are easier to access than others. There is the small, but important detail involving accepting the risk of damaging your notebook and violating the warranty. You will need to decide whether you want to migrate your OS to the new SSD or perform a clean installation of Windows. If you have already upgraded the notebook?s OS to Windows 10, your notebook will have a digital entitlement on the Windows licensing servers. That is Microsoft?s new licensing model which makes activation of the OS a seamless process. In the part of the installation where you see a box to put the twenty-five-character license activation key, there is a link below it that says, I don?t have a key.     That is what you should click on to continue the installation. The type of SSD that will be compatible with your notebook depends on a few things. The first is how recently your notebook came to market. The second is whether your notebook is an entry level or a high-end model with advanced features. The third is dependent on the interfaces present on your notebook?s system board. Your notebook may have only SATA ports or it may also have an M.2 or mini PCIe slot.  Older notebo... HI,I have an HP2000-2b10NR laptop that I've just installed Win10 (downloaded from microsoft) on to a 60GB SSD. Install went fine and operation is fine, until it sleeps. Then it wakes up and says "a problem has occurred and the system must reboot :-(", then it automatically just reboots. I've seen other threads involving downgrading the BIOS to a different version, but the support page for this model shows no such option available. I previously had Windows10 on this machine on a Toshiba IDE disk and didn't have any such suspend/sleep problem. Could it have something to do with the SSD driver? Any idea how to troubleshoot this? What information can I provide to help figure out what's wrong?

Hi, trying to help a friend out.  Machine was stuck beeping on a browser page, and I attempted some repairs ala' malwaretips.com. Got it working, seems to boot fine now.  However...

The USB drivers do not work, and come up with error icons in Device Manager.

It's an HP2000-d19WM laptop running windows 8.1 64-bit  (this machine: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03905124 )

I cannot get HP Support Assistant to run -- no luck downloading a new version, just doesn't launch.

Nor have I had any luck trying to locate drivers from HP site (just not sure where USB drivers would be listed under their choices).

I have two System Restore points, but those are unable to be restored to also.

FYI speccy does not run correctly, shows Unknown system error: 0x80041002 for all categories.

Thank goodness the box does still boot, and has network connectivity.

What is next step to get USB restored?  The system also has an integrated camera, and that seems also to be undetectable.

THANK YOU and bless you folks!

Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse My Computer for Software method, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the above file. That will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp61151. Make sure the include subfolders box is checked, and hopefully the driver will install that way.

picked up this USB/SATA wire with the intent to hook it up to a Hard Drive I removed from a lap top and transfer the files to a new Hard Drive I installed in the lap top. I'm sure you know where this is heading, I had no clue what I was doing. I bought the new Hard Drive at Best Buy along with the Upgrade wire brought them home and quickly removed the hard drive and replaced it with the new one. I then quickly opened the Upgrade Kit (bad idea). Anyway this is the problem, I returned the new hard drive and I was thinking they informed that the new hard drive had no operating system so it would not work unless I bought the software. Also, I was going to return the Upgrade kit, but they would not take it back because they said I may have already installed the software that came with the kit. I now have this Upgrade kit that I spent $40.00 for and not  quite sure what to do with it.
This leads to my question, is there any way I can hook this wire up to the old hard drive that will not Boot and send it to my computer?
Then again there may be something in the hard drive that may compromise my hard drive. Do I have any use for this Upgrade kit.
Sorry for the long drawn out post and many questions.

R7 M440 R16M-M1-70 with up to 4096 MB of dedicated video memory (512Mx16 DDR3 x 4 PCs)16 GB DDR4 SDRAM (2 DIMM) I'm pretty sure Santa needs to bring her an upgraded GPU as that entry level AMD will just slow her down, cough-cough. What graphics card can this upgrade to?  That is, what are the specs/connections/what am I shopping for?  Do I just look at the AMD R7's for a fit?  How good of a GPU is too good where other components are just going to bottleneck the thing? Any advice is welcomed and thanks in advance.  BTW, I'm still on my 6+ year old Dv7, going strong for 6+years god bless it...

I have a friend with a toughbook laptop and we have taken it apart to the core to find that the cpu is a standard 2.8v socket 7 p166mmx pentium cpu. we cannot find jumpers anywhere and wonder if there is any way to upgrade this chip to a 2.8v p233mmx or to one of these low volt socket 7 p266mmx cpus.

We would like to put in a k6-2 but see no way of configuring the chip. These units came stock with 100-166mhz pentium laptop and standard cpus so there must have been a way of "jumpering" them to run each chip

Any thoughts?

Thanx

A:Panasonic CF-25 notebook cpu upgrade

Hmm, we just installed a pentium MMX 200mhz cpu and it works great but only at 166mhz like the old cpu.

There must be a way of reconfiguring the board with different multipliers as the laptop came with anything from a p100 to a p150. but the bios has no options for this and the motherboard itself does not have jumpers to change.

Any ideas?

I recently upgraded my home pc and am now wondering if I can replace the motherboard in a compaq notebook. does this involve soldering things in, or does it plug in like the towers?

here's what it does(compaq presario 1200, AMD K6-2 450 Mhz): I turn it on and the fan switches on, and the lights come on, but that is it. I hear no booting up noises, and nothing comes on the screen. when I put a cd in the drive, I hear it spin and read, but that is it. I tried using a startup disk, and tried replacing a small battery on the inside that I think is for BIOS. is it a motherboard problem, or processor, or other?

thanks for yourhelp

A:upgrade notebook motherboard?

NB motherboards are proprietary to the case they are built for. You will never find a motherboard to fit the case unles you have a couple hundred thousand dollard to hire a design team to make a motherboard upgrade for your notebook. You would more than likely be able to upgrade the processor and memory and that's about it.

G'day,

I've been thinking about upgrading my ASUS X54C notebook by adding a SSD, and possibly more RAM.

Before I open this thing up to take a closer look, is anyone familiar with this notebook to be able to say it does or doesn't have sufficient space for both the existing 2.5" HDD, and a SSD? I guess the only real way to tell is by opening it up?

I can't seem to find an internal diagram that might give me a clue, but these are the specifications if it helps.

Currently, I have 4GB RAM, and considering upgrading to 8GB.

Thanks muchly,
Golden

The only thing I've seen or heard it you can get a case of some sort for the optical drive for the HD and replace it? But you would be left with no Optical, and put you sdd in the HD slot and get the case for the optical slot and put you HD there?

Method 1: Use a usb to sata cable and a cloning program for the simplest way to migrate your OS to an SSD. (see the image below)Method 2: Remove the hard disk from the notebook. Put it and the target SSD in a desktop PC in spare available SATA ports.    Cloning programs like Samsung's Magician, Paragon's Migrate OS to SSD 4.0, and Apricot's EZ Gig IV will allow you to shrink the amount of data on the legacy hard disk to fit on the SSD. The migration is normally seamless and simple and usually finished in about thirty minutes or less. The cloning software will prep the hard drive on its own with scripted powershell commands. Connect the SSD to the sata connector and the USB end to a USB port on your notebook. Invoke the cloning program you have chosen to use.  When the cloning procedure is complete, all that you will need to do is replace the original legacy disk with the SSD. Enter the notebook's BIOS and set the SSD disk to the top of the boot list. Save the change, boot to your SSD and enjoy the performance boost. You won't believe that it is the same notebook. With some notebooks, in order to allow the SSD to boot you will have to use the UEFI boot order and move the OS Boot manager to the top of the list.   Method 3: A clean install of a Windows OS. Windows XP, Vista, 7 , 8 & 8.1 to the new SSD. This can be difficult if the OS is Windows 8 or 8.1. Newer notebooks have the license activation key in the BIOS as a SL... Read more

A:M.2 SSD upgrade for HP Notebook 15-ay013nr

This model can have either a hard drive or an M.2 mSSD but not both. There is a Solid State Drive board that adapts the mSSD to the same space in the laptop as a hard drive or full sized SSD. Since a SATA hard drive and the M.2 plug into the same connector I would say that you have to use a SATA M.2 mSSD and not a PCI-e version as you ask about. This is a brand new model with a Skylake processor so not easy to find information but here is the Service Manual: Manual See p. 56. So if you want the mSSD and you order the laptop with either a hard drive or 2.5 inch SSD you will also somehow have to locate the SSD board. I would just install a 2.5 inch SSD since I think the board will be hard to locate.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Just this weekend I helped my niece, and her husband move to a new address.

Both devices are wireless.

When he tried to connect his laptop the same problem showed up, this was happening at the old address.

Their home network is on, and connected, but when he tries to get on the web the laptop does not see the router.

So far the only thing that works is pulling the power from the router, waiting, then plugging the router back in. Then the laptop sees, and can work on the internet.

The steps I have ask her to take so far, but have not received any feedback are:

Quote:
For the HP2000 (the machine) go here: How to Troubleshoot a Linksys Wireless Router | eHow.com

Start at step #2, then do step #4. Most user-name's and password's to your Linksys router should be admin then admin again for the password, unless you changed it.
some may only require one; either in the user box, and leave the password blank or vice versa...

Close the browser restart the machine, and see if you can connect.

If not, try a hard reset to the router here's how: How to Reset a Linksys Wireless-N | eHow.com

There are new drivers for the machine, you can use this tool to check and see if the 2000 needs any: HP Product Detection

A:Family's Hp2000 Laptop, and Linksys WRT120N router

Hi Anak,

If the laptop can't see the SSID even though it's broadcasting, have you tried to manually add the SSID from the laptop? Removing all the wireless network profiles stored might help, then manually add the SSID.

Also, sometimes depending on the Wi-Fi adapter, some doesn't hand shake well with the wireless security. You may try to do a test by removing the encryption from the router and see if the laptop can connect, then try WEP, WPA to WPA2. Updating the Wi-Fi-Adapter's driver might also help which you have already advised. Make sure that the laptop has the latest SP installed.

An update will be nice.

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

I have an Asus X200MA notebook that I've recently installed a 256GB SSD on. First I cloned the existing hard drive, then I installed the SSD.

Behaviour
Unfortunately when the computer awakes from sleep or when I power it up cold, it opens up to the bios. Very annoying. It will not leave the bios until I press f10 to save new settings: If I try to leave the bios without saving new settings, it will simply reboot to the bios screen again! When I press f10 to save settings, the computer will then let me boot into windows 8.1

I've tried the following to rectify this:
(1) Upgrading the bios
(2) In the bios I've disabled secure boot and enabled CSM. The SATA is set to AHCI.
(3) Advanced startup -> and when it reboots I've chosen Troubleshooting -> Change EMFI. In the bios I've tried to create a new boot record... it doesn't seem to recall this each time it boots cold.

Uggggg.

I'm running a HP dv8408 notebook with 1.25GB RAM, planning to add a secondary hard drive. There is a second bay in the dv8408. The drive connectors are SATA. My question is: do all notebooks have the some sort of standardized way of holding the hard drives in the chassis? My primary hard drive is clipped to a sort of stainless steel shroud, with two tabs that are screwed into the chassis to hold it in place.
Thanks in advance for any insight. I figure I'm going to end up talking to HP before I figure this one out.

The R & M Guide for this notebook says a max of 8G of RAM over 2 slots i.e. max of 4G / slot  and  DDR3-1600 MHz Dual Channel support for a Next Generation Intel Core processor. Processor = Intel Core i7-3632QM processor (2.2GHz, SC turbo up to 3.1GHz, 1600 MHz/6MB L3 cache, quad core, 35W and specs max of 2 memory channels  My current RAM is    Ramaxel 4G 2rx8 PC3-12800S 11-11-1f  (is DDR3 so 1.5v) My question is, as the current RAM is 2 channels (2sx8) can the RAM in the second slot (to go to 8g) be 2 channels or do I have to remove the current RAM and replace with two new RAM modules of 1 channel (1sx8) each?  If the latter is the case can I used DDR3L (1.35v), which is also a processor spec, in place of the DDR3? Thanks for any assistance.

A:RAM upgrade for Pavilion g6-2235tx Notebook

Yes you can use DDR3L since you have the 3rd generation processor. Here is the manual: Service manual You definitely do not want to mix low and high voltage RAM. If you are going to install 2 modules you want them to be the same density (number of ranks) and ideally, you want them to be identical.  So I would get 2 x 4 gig DDR3L-1600 modules.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi, It is not a normal SSD nor a normal M.2 SSD, it is an eMMC drive. On many laptops, this drive is soldered to the motherborad. On your machine, you can upgrade to 64GB only using part number:  903803-001. Page 34 of the Maintenance and Service Guide on the following link will show you how to replace the drive.      http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-14-Notebook-PC-series/10862293/model/11992112/manuals/ Note: The manual says this work must be done by  Authorized Service Provider parts. This implies void warranty if you do it yourself. Regards.

I have an HP Pavilion xf125 notebook, and would like to upgrade the memory. It has 384mb now. I don't know how much memory it will hold, or if it's even upgradable anymore since it's so old (2002 I think). The reason I want to upgrade is because it crashes pretty easy. I was thinking more memory would help solve this problem. Any advice would help... but no need to suggest I buy a new computer because I really don't use it all that much to justify the cost of a new one.

I also need a new battery for it, but don't really want to spend a lot... so looking for an inexpensive one. Not sure it's possible to find such a thing anymore. Yes, I have looked on HP's website and they don't have either memory or batteries for it.

Thanks for any helpful advice you can offer.

Hi, I've upgraded my notebook to Windows 10 but, as many people, I've encountered some issues with Broadcom 802.11 wi-fi adapter. I've read many threads about this and I decide yestarday to roll back to Windows 7 in order to do a clean upgrade by ISO and to unisntall VPN. I've read that Cisco VPN Client is the problem when upgrading to W10... but I'm not sure to have Cisco Client in my notebook.Would you help me to find which VPN's software I have in my notebook ?I run Microsoft Fixit and I discovered that I have :Cisco PEAPCisco LEAPCisco EAP-FAST Are these VPN softwares ? Or not ? After having upgraded Broadcom driver on Windows 10 WiFi was running well, but I still had  an error message "Broadcom 802.11 wi-fi network adapter doesn't work" every time I turned on the notebook. Also, it was impossible on W10 to open Broadcom Wireless Tool software (Control Panel), I got always an error message. Should I unistall Cisco's softwares ? Cheers, Marco

I have tried twice to upgrade my HP Pavillion DV4 notebook to a Samsung 840 Solid State Drive and the two times it only shows a "J" while trying to boot. The first time I used the Migrate OS to SSD option in Minitool Partition Wizard. The second time I used the copy disk option, with the same result. Has any1 been successful in upgrading to a SSD? if so, which application was used? TIA. Manny

My dv6 has gotten severely slow. I am currently running Windows 10, and right now it takes 15-20 minutes to wake it up from sleep and log in. Ive done a lot of cleaning and optimizing, but nothing has gotten better on it. It get's very warm very quickly and the fan always seems to be on high. I am looking to try and upgrade the memory, and maybe the processor (to quad-core) at least if possible to see if the performance will get any better. I can barely do anything on it now because it takes way too long! I do have a 1 TB HDD installed a few years ago and that has been working well, but everyday web browsing, microsoft office products and light photo/video editing once in a while are nearly impossible! What memory and processors are compatible with my machine that I could look into upgrading? Any help is greatly appreciated! I am new to the memory upgrades and such so I was having a bit of an issue searching/understanding exactly what I would be looking for! I will post specs below! Thanks! Specs:OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

I've been trying to upgrade a 60gb hard drive of a Fujitsu Lifebook S6231 to a 250gb hard drive.

I purchase the Apricorn Universal USB upgrade kit, but when I clone the disk and install it, all I get is a blinking cursor. I called up Apricorn and they mentioned that maybe the BIOS does not support larger hard drives. There are no later bios firmware to upgrade to. Also the CSR told me to try a "AS IS" clone which keeps the partition the same size on the new drive and then try using Partition Magic to expand it. I tried that and I still get a blinking cursor

I looked on the Apricorn website and they sell hard drives for my Lifebook, but the largest they sell is 120gb. So I figure maybe the largest HD the bios will support is 120gb and I go to Fry's and get one. I clone the disk and I still get a blinking cursor.

Any suggestions?

Can I upgrade my processor (A6 5200) to a A10 processor if so what do I need and what is compatible?

A:AMD Processor upgrade for HP Notebook 15-af131dx

Here is your Service manual: Manual  See pages 1 and 18. There is no A10 option on that model and even to upgrade to an A8 would take replacement of the whole motherboard, which is pretty much an economic non-starter.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi All! Last weekend I updated the memory RAM of my laptop HP ENVY Notebook - 15-k277ca. The machine has 1 module of 8GB by factory, so I've bought another module of 8GB (same Brand and same rate). But the problem is that the machine did not recognize this second module, neither in BIOS nor SO. Currently I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise x64. The weird part is that I've downloaded the CPU-Z, and this software recognizes the two modules. Any idea?  Here are the image of the CPU-Z software (where the memories are recognized)

When I install Windows 7 the instructions say that I will lose my installed programs. If I use the backup image to re-install the programmes, the backup image CD reinstalls Windows Vista. How can I get around this???

The installed programmes that came with my Acer notebook are copied onto the Acer backup image DVD.

Thank you for your help in advance

If you choose the "upgrade", it should carry forward all your programs, and personal data. Only if you choose "Custom" will you lose your programs.

A:windows 10 upgrade fails on pavilion 15 notebook pc

Hi @giftedmishra? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with creating Recovery discs. Here is a link from Microsoft on creating USB recovery flash drive. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. I hope this helps. Thanks.
