Keyboard numbers

Q: Keyboard numbers

Using Windows 98 with Microsoft Internet Keyboard. All current upgrades installed. Pentium III processor. MS Optical Intellimouse.

Everything works fine except the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. NumLock is on but nothing transmits to programs when a key is depressed. With numlock off, keypad functions work normally as arrow keys. Numbers keys at top of board work okay too.

Tried upgrading with latest MS drivers for both keyboard and mouse and pouring over startup BIOS options but no joy - same ole, same ole.

Any suggestions?

in the desktop ie and the url bar of the metro ie the keyboard numbers row doesn't work, every key in that row just repeatedly types the most recently pressed key that isn't in that row. I can type numbers with the number pad on the side of the keyboard but not symbols like @,#,$ and the rest. sometimes I write something into another program and copy and paste, but some websites don't let you do that. so how do you get the numbers row on the keyboard to work?

A:keyboard numbers row not typing in ie

Just taking a wild stab in the dark here as I don't use IE but have you checked your keyboard settings on the bottom of your screen (that ENG button on the lower right on the Task Bar)? Mine got mysteriously changed to French Canada the other day and I couldn't use my number row.

Bought new SONY camcorder. I want to share videos with sources (options are facebook, utube, etc.). When I select video to share, and choose facebook, I must log in to facebook. When doing so, my keyboard only types numbers. But when I use all other sources like utube, the keyboard works fine - uses letters. Even SONY cannot figure this out. Any advise????

A:Keyboard using numbers ONLY in certain areas

Your keyboard switches to numbers on facebook only? I don't see why it should only happen on facebook. Ensure that you do not have "num lock" on when you are on facebook.

If it is only ever facebook that it happens, then it may be easiest to type your username and password in notepad first and then copying and pasting them into their respective fields - discarding the current notepad file afterwards.

I just got this Kensington keyboard from Newegg:

The layout is fantastic, but the only top row numbers that work are 5 and 6. Shift-number doesn't work either. This is a pretty big problem for me.

I tried unplugging and re-plugging, used both USB and the serial adapter. Nothing has worked yet.

My son has just phoned me 'cos his laptop for some reason has a problem.
Keys such as K which also have the number 2 will only show the number, not the letter. I'm working 200 miles away from him at the moment so how can he put this right please? He's only just in double figures so he's rather worried about this.
He says he's not changed any settings but it's possible that something could have been changed by accident of course.
Thanks for any help...

Consequtive numbers appear instead of letters. Using Acer netbook Win 7.

A workaround is by selecting a language in the multi language bar I use; however, when moving to a new text box the keyboard returns to enter numbers instead of letters and selecting a language in the language bar is required again.

This problem exists when using the browsers. MS Word seems not to have the problem. I did not try other applications.

My computer with the problem is a Gateway Notebook LT2104u running Microsoft Windows 7. When I open Internet Explorer and type in numbers, letters or symbols, the result on screen is a consecutive string of numbers, i.e. 12345678901234567890 but the string may also start randomly at 45678901234567890. I have Norton Antivirus software on the notebook provided by Comcast. I also bought a driver manager as an add on by Norton as suggested by other tech web sites and scanned and updated the drivers with no benefit, the problem still remains. The keyboard works just fine in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. I can type in MS Word, cut and paste into Internet Explorer and the resulting search or entry works fine. I have checked the cap lock and num locks settings. I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem or how to fix it?

Preface: I'm a computer tech of 13 years, and I've not seen a problem like this, nor can I figure out a way to successfully search for a similar problem online, so I figured I'd try here.

I've got a computer on our network that is displaying a unique symptom. When you type anything, it appears as a series of incrementing numbers from 0 to 9 and repeating. This happens when pressing any letter or number keys. The only key that appears to work is the tilde/backapostrophe (~`). Also interesting is that pressing Shift + any key gives you the symbol appropriate for pressing shift and that number.

So, for example, if I were to type:

This is a test! >> !234 56 7 [email protected]
AaaaaaAAA >> $56789)[email protected]
qwertyuiopasdfghjkl; >> 34567890123456789012

The computer had a malware infection prior to this, including the WinAntivirus 2010 infection, as well as a rootkit infection that Gmer's tool located and "successfully" removed.

I don't think this is being caused by an infection, as MBAM and SAS are both showing the system as completely clean. I've tried a PS2 and USB keyboard, both which give the same result. Rkill doesn't show anything running in the background that shouldn't be, and for all other purposes, the computer is working perfectly.

Any ideas here?

A:Keyboard is typing consecutive numbers...!

I do not have a fix at this moment for this one but can recommend a work around.

Open Start>Run type osk.exe to access the on screen keyboard.

Maybe someone else around here has experienced this issue and will have a fix but for now if this PC is really needed to function this is one work around.

I have a new 11e laptop, 3rd Generation. Everything was working good. All of a sudden, the keyboard when typing only the middle row letters of "a,s,d,f, j, k, l, ;" a number will be added in front or to the back of the letter. All other keys are typing fine. I have checked for anything NumLock that could be related to causing this. Nothing in BIOS Set. Checked keyboard settings - the correct language is set. I tried to press FN+F11 and nothing. I turned on the online keyboard and clicked on NumLock there and turned it off, that did not fix it. I attached an external keyboard, that types fine. Turned on and off num lock, that did not fix it. I did a restore back to a date before it happened, that did not fix it. I just reimaged the laptop and that did not fix it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I have sought a solution for this problem for a few weeks and cannot find one.

My notebook is an HP Pavilion dv9005ca Laptop (17in. screen) and has a separate numeric keypad. Running Windows XP SP2 with all patches.

The keys: M,JKL,UIO produce numeric characters (0 to 6) when the num lock key is on and the correct characters when it is off (some other keys on that side of the keyboard produce symbols found on the numeric keypad).

Following HP support suggestion at [url not allowed:-( ] I have tried the Fn + num lock combination but this does nothing.

When I first boot up the characters are normal until the num lock key is toggled.

At some point a while ago when entering text I believe I inadvertently pressed a combination of keys that caused this problem.

I hope someone can help.

This seems to happen at random times and I cant get rid of it unless I restart the PC, which is what makes me think this is a software, not a hardware problem because my keyboard should be fine really. This only started happening a few weeks after I had made a fresh installation of Windows 7 (previously used XP).

Basically the problem: All of a sudden a random number of keys that are supposed to type letters type random numbers instead. The number of letter keys afflicted on average is probably around 10-30% of the total keys. Which keys are afflicted and what numbers they produce is random.

So when i type "This sucks" I might get instead "th5s 4u34s". Also functions bound to Q in a video game will not function when I actually pres Q in case it would produce a number while typing.

A:Keyboard is typing numbers instead of letters? (NUM LOCK IS NOT ON)

If this is a laptop see if this helps.

If you're writing numbers instead of letters when you press the keyboard of your laptop and you must hold down the Function key (Fn) to write normally.

This is due to the fact that the digital lock is activated. To solve this, simply press the Fn+Numlk or depending of the model, press the button or Fn + Shift +Numlk

So as the title says, the keys on the top of my laptop (Under the F keys) don't work in the sense that they give a jumble of symbols/more than one number, rather than what it should:

So from left to right, finishing at the backspace, this is what i get (What you should normally get is on the left, and what i got is on the right)
` = `1
1 = `1
2 = Doesn't give any number, it just opens a new tab in the browser
3 = 3
4 = 54
5 = 54
6 = 67
7 = 67
8 = =8
9 = 9
0 = -0
- = -0
= = =8

With Shift
~ = ~!
! = ~!
@ = @
# = #
$ = %$
% = %$
^ = ^&
& = ^&
( = (
) = _)
- = _)
+ = +*

Sometimes it works alright, and other times this is what happens. Though, this is the longest period of time that it has been messed up for. Also, all the other keys work fine.

Also, i haven't spilt anything really on there. I did spray my keyboard with some disinfectant a few times to clean it and stuff, but other than that, no copious amounts of liquid. Please help me!

This is killing me.
When in word documents or typing in browsers, my laptop keyboard is perfectly fine, but when I'm in a game or certain other programs (like typing in Pandora, the internet radio) my keyboard (all the numbers, letters, and punctuation keys), when hit, will display numbers. No matter what key is pressed the first press gives me a "1," the next a "2," and so forth until "0" which is when it goes back to "1." I can't play anything and have to copy paste into Pandora's typing field. Oddly, when I hit CTRL-V to paste it still registers. CTRL-random number would not paste, so something is (I think) changing my letters into numbers after the letter registers.
I tried to do all the Num-lock and scroll-lock stuff but it didn't work.
AVG Free's scheduled scan turned up nothing.
I'm currently scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot S&D. Unhackme says there is no Trojan on my computer.
I temporarily fixed the problem previously with a system restore, but it did not last.
Someone please help!

Hi...I have an Acer AO255 functions well aside from a problem with some numbers (4,6,8,0) and some letters (p and a capital V) that do not work...also number 6 is constantly in a connected state (not physically depressed but typing away in any space available)`s not the leyboard itself that needs changing but something inside that I figure is somehow stuck and causing a constant connection of the number 6...the other letters and numbers that are not working are at times intermittently working but in the main not !

It is not the keyboard itself that is malfuntioning as the number 6 is merrily typing away even when the keyboard is disconnected...anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this please ?

The Acer itself works`s just this key/number thing...I don`t use it now as I have other laptops to use but when I have used it,it`s easy enough to browse etc...but you can imagine the difficulty when needing to type ! ...I have a feeling a connection is stuck but don`t know what or where to look to check.

A:Solved: Sony Vaio Keyboard issue - CAPs inverted & numbers not working

Check the laptop's keyboard to make sure it doesn't have any stuck keys as they will override any USB keyboards plugged in.

Have you tried Safe Mode or Startup Repair:
Test to see if the keyboard works in either mode. It may have switched keyboard layouts to another layout or language. If it works in the Startup Repair try System Restore. If it doesn't work re-check the internal laptop keyboard or even remove/disconnect it from the laptop and try a good USB keyboard.

Now, I want to take off the last 4 numbers, and the dash, from all the numbers in the column, using a formula. So that the output would be: 54321.

I want it so the first 5 numbers stay the same, but the dash and last 4 are gone. Is this possible?

I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

A:SATA port numbers vs assignemnt of Disk numbers/

Best advice, leave it alone. It may bother your (and others) sense of order but it won't affect how anything works, and no re-installing Windows won't change it.

I checked the internet to see if I could find out what they were. It kept taking me to sites for spyware, adware,etc. I could not find out what they were or why they are on my system. I do not want to remove them until I know what they are. I have not noticed any problems with my system, but I do not know what might be going on behind the sceen. I have some reference books I use and in all of them I have this problem:

The number written on the document pages doesn't match the number my pdf reader says, and for every document it has a different offset. That is, for example when I go to page 16, then on the page itself it's written that it's page 5 and not 16.

It's an annoying problem.
Is there any way to fix this by changing the pdf numbering or is there any workaround?

I checked with an IT associate of mine, and he said the processors size refers to the address bus. PC Guide says it refers to the register size within the CPU. The article went on to say every processor introduced in the last decade, from the earliest 386SX to the latest Pentium II or K6, is a 32 bit processor, based on this definition. I am going to skip the story behind this deal and ask how to get through to Windows and explain my delima. I tried to activate XP PRO after a complete transfer from one disk to an oem disk with XP Home. I was told that my numbers where bad after trying to activate, and that was it. I was not transferred or given a chance to talk to a real person, just contact vendor to whom sold me the disc. I had never had a problem in the past using this product. I have had the disc for over a year now with no problems. It has been installed several different times on several different computers. I had bought the disc along with the sp2 update install disc. It was selling as Windows XP PRO with SP2, Anyway, I do not expect help in a matter concerning bootleg products, but would just like to know a number I can use to get hold of Windows support personal and find out what the deal is. I can understand to many installs, but with that you can at least try and get new numbers and or talk to someone.

A:[SOLVED] bad numbers

Donk here again, It sounds as though I may be screwed. I Googled activation and found a site that has explained what the deal might just be. I new the disc had unlimited installs which meant an OEM install disc. Like I said, all had been good for a little over a year maybe two not sure, but they have now put into place a program that limits OEM install disc's. I just happen to have been sold said product. I had also noticed that after trying to return to said site it no longer offers my product, or any product dealing XP, Office, or Vista. I guess when you buy a product for a price that seems to good to be true well... it is. Buyer beware. It's called greed, I wanted something for nothing, and I got nothing.

Turn off the MouseKeys accessibility feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type access.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Mouse tab, and then click to clear the Use MouseKeys check box.
3. Click OK.

I followed those instructions, rebooted and now i can type the numbers 5 and 6 but not seven or any other numbers. I do type a domain containing 5 and 6 from time to time and it will be in my cache so maybe that's why i can type these numbers only.

I got a question to be solved. Does anyone know how to write the code to increment the product number and pass it on to the next page, to be added to the database, so the user doesn't have to type it in? Basically, i want to take the last product number from the product page, increment it to the next number (the product number or any id's has to be hidden on the product page), so if the last number in the db is 0012 i want the next number to be 0013, pass it to the addprod page and show it on the form and then have it stored in the db with that particular product - so every product has a unique product number.
any help would be great

A:ASP - incrementing numbers

I don't know if i understand your question (sorry for being stupid). The way i see it is that you want to let your users to add products (insert records) to your database with unique ID numbers, is this right?

If it is, its a simple operation, especially if your using MM Ultradev.

What are you writing the script in, ASP, Coldfusion, PHP, etc.? And what database are you using, Access, SQL?
