Where Oh where has my Monitor/Modem/Drivers gone???

Q: Where Oh where has my Monitor/Modem/Drivers gone???

It would be easier to explain what actually works on my system but here it goes.
When having high speed internet installed on my system the tech decided that my computer would be the one that he destroyed that day. He thought it would be nice to erase several programs in windows 98 se and didn't bother to let little old me know what he did or how to rectify the situation. after the attempted installation upon start up I received more error messages than than SPAM in my e-mail. The system informed me that several windows files were corrupt and I could not even use my office 2000 programs??? Well I was a little miffed but trekked on and tried to reinstall my windows however, he erased my driver for the a: drive and I had no way of reinstalling. Now I'm not real smart but I knew I was in trouble when I YES I, erased windows from the C:drive. I knew that I, as well as, my computer needed some professional help. A friend of mine finally managed to get windows installed and I know you'll be as delighted as I was to find out that I could use my office products once again.
Now it seems that my drivers for my monitor are gone, the computer won't recognize my 10/100 eithernet card and my voodoo 2 3D driver is gone as well as my sound card driver.
To compound joy upon joy I no longer have my windows 98se CD's they decided to join that one sock that escaped from the drier in some time space continuum where intelligently challenged people like myself have no access. I still cannot go online so I have to use my e-mail at work to attempt to sort this out.
If there is some brave Palladian or anyone else for that matter that would like to challenge themselves with the daunting quest of unraveling this unholy mess you can e-mail me and I would be happy give you my phone # and go in to even more detail.

Right now I'm one crashed and burned Guy!!!!

A: Where Oh where has my Monitor/Modem/Drivers gone???

I guess you're not having the best of luck, huh?

How (if I may ask) do you acquire this system? I'm assuming that it came fully loaded, and that your sound, video, and ethernet card came loaded with the system. If this is the case, then I'll also assume that you were not given the software CD's or floppies that contain the drivers for your hardware.
You'll probably have to go to the websites of the manufacturer's of your equipment, and enter your hardware model numbers into a driver search. If you can tell us the exact models of your cards, then we can probably point you in the right direction.
As for the Win98 CD, try asking around if anybody has a copy that you could borrow. Failing that, you could start kissing the butts of your IT guys at work. They might take pity on you and let you "borrow" a copy.

I don't know the model or the type. The stuff I put in when installing it in the control panel(it was already physically installed in the computer, but wasn't dialing) is a bunch of guesses.

This is all the info I have about a modem that refuses to work right:

"Port: COM1" - I set it up that way when intalling through the control panel and I have no idea if that's how it should be set up.
"Interrupt: 4
Address: 3F8
UART: NS 16550AN
Standard 56000 bps V90 Modem" - Again, I set the bold part up when installing via the control panel and have no idea if that's set up right.

"Identifier: USRK2_Gen"

I googled the identifier and found that it was a USRobotics modem, but that's all I know about it.

Can anyone help me find a driver for a modem. I don't know the maker of the modem and I have no drivers that will work on it. The modem does work but I was forced to format my hard drive and when reloading the software I discovered that I did not have a modem driver. I pulled the card and looked at it but I could not see a manufacture on it.
It does have a maple leaf on it so I think it might be from Canada. It's a 56k modem in a windows 98 machine. It has a chip on it that says datatronics.
Is there anything like a generic driver for a modem?
Hey any help will be greatly appreciated.
I got out the old magnifying glass and yes it was made in Canada and it has a model number on it.
Model number:M56HI
Serial # 117072
and this might refer to a manufactures name: BRI
There is also a bar code on this thing and some numbers next to it which are: GA06PX 4260-03

Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.
On the following window, click on HAVE DISK.
Type ďD:\ENGLISH\DRIVERSĒ (Where ďDĒ is the drive letter of your CD ROM Drive) on INSTALL FROM DISK window then click on OK.

I have a problem with my modem driver. I have an HP 6630 Pavilion. Well, I had to replace the cd rom, Well, guess what? The recovery cd's that came with the PC don't work with the new CDRW I bought. I must have spent 2 days fooling around with this before I went to a friends house who still had HP support. Thats when I found out that I couldn't use the new CDRW to put my old system back. The new CDRW doesn't reckonize the recovery cd's. So now I had to go out and buy a new O.S, (WIN ME) FOR $200.00 that would work with the new CDRW.
Now for the life of me I can't find the drivers for the modem that came with the system. The modem doe's work. I looked everywhere., HP, Google, with no joy. I don't want to spend another $100.00 buying a new modem just cause I don't have drivers for the old one.
I'm so mad at HP right now I could spit fire!!! How dare them make the consumer pay for another O.S system. We already paid for the one that came with the PC! Even if I can't find the drivers, I want everyone to know what a bunch of jerks these people are to there customers.

I am increasingly having problems with getting *complete* modem driver software.

On a number of occasions I have been rebuilding machines which have a working modem and there is no driver CD available. Although I search and download drivers which claim to be adequate for the modem, they tend to be unable to cope with the PCI communications device that the modem uses, i.e. the comms port.

Can some knowledge-enabled body enlighten me as to the processes which are involved; is there some way round this comms installation problem?

Also, given that the modem works on the old system, is there some way of getting together all the drivers and other stuff from that system so that it can be reinstalled on the new system?

Okay, I got an ol' Win95 system from 1997 and I had to reformat the hard drive. I got the video and sound card reinstalled, but the modem won't show up. I have the modem DRIVERS, but usually under device manager it appears underneath other devices as "PCI Communications Device". But that's not there! So I can't get to it to reinstall the drivers. All I see under other devices is: PCI Bridge. Huh? Any help is appreciated......... I was thinking maybe I had to fool around with the bios a little?

A:Modem drivers????

I don't think the BIOS/CMOS is your answer, unless Plug-N-Play is disabled--did PNP pick up your sound card?

If there's no modem icon in your Control Panel window and none in Device Manager, try physically pulling the card, starting Windows (see if you get errors), and then shutting down, reinstalling the card, and starting Windows again. Maybe Windows will detect the modem as a new device.
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but do you have Dial-Up Networking installed?

Hi guys
Basically I used to have Windows Vista, last night, and I decided to restore my comp to factory settings. It failed and just went mucked up so I decided to install XP (which I liked the idea of), I already think XP is better because Vista was soooo laggy.

Anyway, I usually have a light at the bottom of my computer to tell me about the wireless connection, but it's not there. Neither can I connect to wireless, and I'm using ethernet atm. I also had no sound, which I solved because I downloaded drivers for it and it works fine.

The problem is 'Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus', I don't know what to do to make this problem solved. I have an Advent computer if that helps.

What you need to do is determine the make and model of your PC and go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers from their site. If you look in your device manager (right click on my computer/pick manage/pick device manager) you should see you have a few unknown devices in there (being your audio and modem) those need to be downloaded from the manufacturers website and installed for it to work.

I have 2 computers that I am trying to network.

First off, I tried to upgrade both to Windows ME and network them using cards and hub from Netgear. I ended up reformatting both and doing a clean install of Win 98 (first edition) and then upgrades to ME.

Machine #1 will connect to the internet but it shows two different device drivers that arenít installed and for which I canít find the drivers. I donít even know what to look for really. The two devices that arenít installed are PCI Ethernet Controller and PCI Multimedia Audio. The Netgear network card shows as being installed. Also I have no sound. I bought this machine through an online auction and they preloaded everything and I was not smart enough to get all the drivers I needed before I reformatted. I am able to get online and use the machine but I am not able to network the two yet.

Machine #2 has a problem with the modem. I can install it but when I try to connect online, it states that windows could not detect the modem. It didnít show a COM port so I added one and now it shows it in COM 1 but it still will not connect. Unfortunately, this is the machine we want to use as the shared internet connection once the network is going.

I guess what I need help with and what I am trying to accomplish are:

1. Install drivers for Machine #1 Ė PCI Ethernet Controller and PCI Multimedia Audio

2. Get modem working properly on Machine #2

3. Network the two together using Windows ME and share an internet connection thro... Read more

A:PCI drivers, modem and networking

1) PCI Ethernet is your network card. You may think you have it installed, but something is wrong. Uninstall what you think is the card, then choose this item and Update Driver for it and point it to the Netgear disks.

2) PCI Multimedia is your sound card. You will need to look inside the computer at the card and tell us what it is before we can point you to the drivers for it.

3) You cannot add a COM port to make an internal modem work. Internal modems create their own port if they are working correctly. What brand / model is the modem?

Sharing Internet is something else altogether - lets get the two machines fully working before we start in on that.

I've run into a slight issue while trying to design Modem drivers (1200 baud) to be exact.

Although we have spent a fair amount of hours in the environment, we havent been introduced to threading. I understand the concept and the hooks around launching threads, I've just never actualy gotten one working properly.

My situation is as follows, using a single path application with multiple timers just wont cut it for these modems. The shortest timer is 1 ms and those little modems chunck out characters MUCH faster than that. The issue become that the software is almost unable to catch all the incoming characters, and formating packets with STX, ETX checksums and other control characters become a hastle because we are never guarenteed that the full packet was received properly. The modem keeps missing either a piece of data or one of the control chars and almost always locks the transmission until they can finaly resync. (Yes there is error checking and retransmission on an ACK/NACK system.)

#1 I Am wondering if it is prudent/possible to launch a thread on init or in a constructor that can query the UART to check if a character has come in, and if so, GRAB it right away so that the next incoming character doesnt clobber the previous one.

#2 How do I go about this? The MSDN site is very vague and has me running in circles.

So far I know that I need to create a control function to be launched ex UINT MyThread( LPVOID lparam), and launch that as a worker thread in t... Read more

Make sure you have uninstalled all previous drivers for it, and check with the manufacturer's website for the most recent driver for win7 x86 and see about installing that. Theres also a sticker that says CIS technology inc. series M1-5614PM3 HIGH Speed fax modem(I'm guessing this is the actual model#)

Compaq's site sucks, and I can't find anything on CIS tech. If anyone can find me the drivers for this modem, it would be greatly appreciated.

A:Can't install modem drivers

A cable modem doesn't need drivers.

You may or may not need to setup your LAN connection with you user ID and password. It depends on your ISP, but if needed they typically supply you with a setup sheet on what to change and your login information.

Otherwise, all you need to do is run the internet connection setup wizard.

And if I'm happen to be stuck with a 64-bit OS and this modem, is there any other solution

I am frustrated with this modem problem. I am running Windows XP SP1, and have an Intel(R) 537 Data Fax Voice Modem. When I get properties on my modem from device manager it displays the yellow exclamation marks and says device cannot start (code 10). So I reinstall the modem drivers from the CD and it seems to install fine, but at the end of the Wizard, there's a yellow exclamation mark on the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device. I check the properties of it, and it says the device is working properly. And I can use the modem to connect to the Internet. But whenever I restart the computer, device manager still displays the yellow exclamation marks and says device cannot start (code 10)!!

I have taken the card out and put it back in and installed the drivers. The modem works while I use the computer but everytime I restart it, the yellow exclamation mark appears next to the modem!

Can anyone offer some advice?

Do ADSL Modem / Routers need special drivers installed on Windows 7?

I'm asking as I saw this in a product description "Supports operating systems, such as Windows95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista, Unix, and Mac". Is there any sub-text to that statement, e.g. "but not Windows 7"?

I would connect the router to the PCs using wired Ethernet. If I used wireless connections would any special drivers be needed?

A:Q: ADSL Modem Routers and drivers?

Most routers and modems will work just fine on Windows 7. If you're just using a DSL modem, you may have to log into the modem using PPPoe in order to connect. If you're using a router you may have to use that to connect via PPPoe. Some connections differ though, for example my family's dsl connects straight through the modem like cable connections. My cable connection doesn't require any log in, just a previous cable modem mac address authentication by the server.

You're most likely going to be working with PPPoe as mentioned and if you don't use a router you'll need to log in with the computer.

I have the speedtouch 330 adsl modem, originally for Windows XP.
I got the drivers for vista from the Thomsons site, and installed it onto my vista machine. So everything was runnig smoothly, I went onto google, did a few searches, went to winamp, and I downloaded the latest internet updates (I got the computer today).
Then I try to go somewhere and the page hangs, try restarting and connecting again, just doesn't do anything, tried pinging random address in command prompt and i get 0% loss so I am totally confused.
I thought it might of been the fact that I downloaded some updates, so i uninstalled them all, but the problem remains.
Tried uninstalling the modem and re-installnig quite a few times, and sometimes it will open pages for 30 secs or so and then just do the same thing again.
Please someone help, I only got the computer today, here are my ipconfig /all details:

I have a dual boot system running 2000 and XP Pro. I just installed a 56K Voice Modem via a PCI slot on my computer. The driver installation went problem free while using 2000, but when I try to get the drivers going on XP I keep getting an error message. This message comes up as I go through the Add New Device wizard.

There was a problem installing this hardware:

56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV R9A

An error occurred during the installation of this device.

The required section was not found in the INF.

I made sure to download the specific drivers for each operating system, also I made sure that I downloaded the proper versions for the modem that I have. I did some research and found that the "The required section was not found in the INF", is an error message that people encounter with various devices such as webcams and printers, mine happens to be with a modem.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I got a computer from X-Technology ( via about two years ago. Long story-short, I don't have the Recovery CD for my system, my hard drive died on Thursday, got a used one from a friend that I installed, installed Windows 2000 Pro (had Win98SE prior to this) and now some of the drivers aren't working after the initial install.
I checked the "Hardware Wizard" as it is on Win2k and it listed four items with the question mark/exclamation mark icons:
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Device
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Ethernet Controller
They all have the same message that goes with them: Drivers for this Device are not Installed (Code 28)
I know what the Ethernet Controller is, and the Video Controller doesn't need to be fixed since I'm running the video through my GeForce2 which I already installed drivers for and got to work. The other two I'm not sure about, but the only other things not working currently are my sound and dial-up modem. I'm pretty sure if I could find the right drivers for these it would fix the problem, but I can't seem to figure out which drivers I need. All the things that aren't working are on-board components (Modem, sound, ethernet). Here's all the info I can find at this point. Please let me know if there's something else I can do or look up to provide additional information.

I am using my daughters computer - when I turn on my Dell Dimension C521 a message comes up that reads: wuauclt.exe, also another one that reads SM Bus Controller - no driver. it says I need the CD for this (which one do I use) - I also cannot connect to internet - I use Cricket Modem - and it says that it is disconnected. I just have no idea what to do since it is a wireless modem and that I should hook up telephone line (I do not have my computer hooked up to a telephone line) - so what could be the problem there.

I did a Modem Diagnostic Tool - and it did not register a modem (where did it go?) - test - failed output code 6 ????

I've had this modem for ages and haven't used it for several years.
Now, running W7-64 I need to send a FAX so now and then. I've been able to do so at my office, but since my retirement, the access to a fax machine means printing and going out to the office to fax, It is incidental but still, some companies require a fax as proof of purchase, order, whatever, even banks.
I've searched but cannot find any driver that works or is recognized by the USB mode.
Sitecom E500 V.90 USB Modem
I've tried contacting SItecom support but one of the fields you have to enter is an order number so I cannot use the on-line form. Phonenumbers are not whown so I do not think that Sitecom is that userfriendly site you would expect..
Does anyone know how I could find a suitable driver? The modem is recognized when I plug it in to a usb port but then after searching it comes up with no driver found (Internet or HDD) I do not have the CD anymore, cannot find it.
In the configuration panel it shows up as unknown device and that's it.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance

Hi guys,

I've been having some trouble with my Win 7 64bit machine for a few months, and now its time to bring the giant down!

Yesterday I bought a new 3G modem (Hauwei 1752) and this, just like previous modems, won't install properly on my system.

It does install some of the drivers properly, and windows reports it as working properly. But one driver fails. The Cell C software does pick up the modem, but can't use it to connect.

In Device Manager, the modem has a yellow exclamation mark next to it, saying the drivers didn't install properly

The modem works perfectly in my XP machine.

I have downloaded the latest 64bit drivers from Cell C. But when I install the .exe, it seems like nothing happens.

I have tried just about everything: uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting after every step, running in Admin mode etc.

I was on the phone with Cell C's technical support and they seem pretty convinced that its a problem with my PC. And I think they're right.

Its an Hauwei 1752 modem. And I can't find drivers for it on the Hauwei site

I don't know if I've got the proper USB drivers for my Intel H55 TC installed, but I believe its the latest from here. Called INF_allOS_9.1.2.1008_PV.exe?

I even updated my boards BIOS today

What can be done?

So, any ideas?

A:Drivers for Modem not Installing Properly

I don't know if I've got the proper USB drivers for my Intel H55 TC installed, but I believe its the latest from here. Called INF_allOS_9.1.2.1008_PV.exe?

I think you need aswell this one:

Intel? Management Engine Interface Driver version

Does your bios was the one on Intel?
Version: 0044"

Try to uninstall the drivers Cell C. Then reinstall without plugging the modem onto the desktop computer, Windows 7 might pick up the right one after reboot. Otherwise it installs generic drivers that might mess the install.

i have a win xp pro pc with a conexant d850 56k v.9x dfvc dialup modem that i received used about 6 months ago. today it had trouble connecting so i had the bright idea to take out the modem. not so bright! i stuck the modem back in, the pc wanted to "add hardware" but now i have 2 problems. one option of adding the hardware is connect to the internet to get the new driver software....i can't connect to the internet without this modem. second option is to stick in some kind of cd (which i don't have) to get drivers. my question is...can i use a different pc, go to the modem driver website, download the software on a cd and use that cd for "option 2"??? or should i just go to walmart and get a new dial up modem?? any help would be appreciated.

A:how can dialup modem drivers be loaded w/out cd

No real need to buy a new modem unless your current one has failed. You should be able to download the drivers from another computer onto a cd or a thumb drive. It doesn't have to be a cd, usually after it searches for a disc, it will give you the option to browse for the driver, and you can just browse to your thumb drive.

But it's your choice.

I would like to ask some questions related to installing drivers in general. I want to update my modem driver, and install a driver for a new GCC-4521B LG electronics Combo DVD / CD-RW drive.

I am using Windows 98. This is an older Gateway G6-400 computer, Pentium 2 processor, 400 MHz processor speed, 10 GB IDE hard drive, 128 MB RAM, 16MB AGP graphics accelerator. I guess not very good by todays standards.

The modem driver is from part # 7502806.exe. The driver for the DVD / CD-RW is from part # GCC-4521B_104.exe

I basically need to know how to properly un-install the old drivers, and install the new drivers. I found the instructions on the Gateway site a little confusing, mainly with respect to installing the new drivers.

1. The drivers are executable files, so do I need to double click on them and unpack them, and/or install them before they can be used or found by the device manager wizard ? Or will the device manager "wizard" unpack and/or install them automatically ? Do I need to tell the wizard what directory the drivers are located in, or can it find them on it's own ?

I presently have the drivers on my desktop. I would appreciate it if someone could please give detailed "step by step" instructions for properly un-installing my old drivers, and installing the new drivers.

However, right after the auto login until the browser auto starts the desktop is visible. Hmm SSD load up in about 20 seconds average. Classic Shell will disable all 4 corners and boot straight to log in and desktop. I guess since you have a touch screen you want to keep the Metro stuff so faster boot up time would be the way to go. SSD

She called a few minutes later and said she couldn't get on the internet, After a little 'phone troubleshooting I figured her modem was also dead, and the ISP (Verizon) agreed and is sending a new modem.

Hi there,

Our Compaq Presario Desktop of 7 years died a few weeks ago (may it rest in peace), so we got a brand new HP Pavilion, except the problem is that our CD to install the USB drivers for our modem (which is discontinued, by the way), is really, really stubborn and doesn't want to install the drivers. First it supposedly "checks" our system for meeting the minimum requirements, and according to the CD, our system doesn't have at least 32 MB of RAM (Jeez I thought we had 4Gigs), but after that the rest of the procedure goes without incident and finally the installation starts. It says it's installing the necessary files and drivers and asks me politely to wait. Then BAM! A window pops up, saying "Director Player Error" and under the heading, "Object expected" and under that, "Continue?". What is this??? This didn't happen on XP.

And before you say it, no, I cannot "just connect via ethernet". Because my laptop uses the ethernet cord, and the desktop is in the adjacent room, so there is a hole we drilled between those rooms, feeding the ethernet from the modem to my laptop, so you can see, fumbling with the cord and dashing from room to room when we want the internet is just not an effective solution. As we are now, we have to methods to connect to the internet, and we have used both at the same time before, and I personally see nothing wrong with a USB connection, so can you guys please help me?

I grabbed an older Sony Vaio PCG-FX310 notebook to have as a spare. I installed a fresh copy of XP home edition and am unable to find the driver that fixes the ?mark next to PCI modem in device drivers section for windows XP. I have been searching everywhere. I used driver updater to find a bunch of drivers I was missing that were not on the drivers page. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong area but if anyone can help with this I would appreciate it because its annoying.

A:sony vaio pcg-fx310 pci modem has ? by it in device drivers running XP

The Conexant-Ambit SoftK56 Data/Fax Modem Driver Utility is listed here with all your other drivers on the Sony Driver Page for your computer. If that doesn't work the PCI modem is for a Dial-Up-Modem, if you don't think you will need this you can disable it.

A while ago, I created a slipstreamed Windows XP CD that, amongst other things, has all the standard modem drivers removed then used that to install Win XP onto my PC.

The problem I have now is that I am trying to use a Blackberry as a modem on my PC, which requires the installation of the modem mentioned above, which is not possible thanks to my removing the drivers.

Can anyone tell me what files I need to copy off the original Windows XP CD, how I can do so and what to do with them to enable the installation of the modem?

If this is not possible, can anyone give me a link to somewhere I can download the drivers in question (an exact link being preferable to one where I have to search for the drivers)?

Hi,i came home from school the other day trying to start up my computer to see a black non working screen when i start my computer up. I first thought it was my monitors fault since the dat before this my computer was working fine, but i can play my ps3 on my monitor, so monitors not the issue.I thought it was my video card since that gets video to my monitor but I think thats not it since my mouse keyboard are not getting power(no lights), also i read that power supply might be the problem but i doubt it since video card headsink case fans are working. When on startup there is usually one beep. This time there is no beep at all. Also that the blue light on motherboard is on.On the motherboard there is a led screen that says FF , i dont know ehat that is. If you can explain to me. Also I tried cleaning dust off my monitor, taking off memory and putting it back doing the same for video card, still no results. Im thinking either the motherboard is not working or the cpu.
