Y510p Laptop monitor not recognized.

Q: Y510p Laptop monitor not recognized.

Hello, bear with me because it is quite a long confusing story. I have recently send the y510p away to get the screen repaired. Because I needed something to work with meanwhile I took the SSD from y510p and put this in an older laptop with a clean install of windows10. In the y510p I put an old HDD with Elementary OS installed on it. Today I received the y510p and turned it on, the screen worked perfectly and I could use the Elementary OS installed on the HDD. I then took the HDD out again and put the SSD in, I was planning to do a clean install on it again but it still had windows 10 installed from the older laptop.I put everything back together and powerd it on, the screen lights up but remains black.I hooked up an external monitor through vga and saw that the windows 10 had booted from the older laptop. When I try to get in the bios (I think it's F2) both monitors remain black. I have the feeling it goes to the bios, but cant display it on the monitor? (I cant find a way to display the bios on the external monitor.)Could it be that the motherboard doesnt recognize the new screen? At the moment the only way to get any visual on the main monitor is to boot Elementary OS from the old HDD. Please help for I have no other ideas. JTADDED: I can currently use the SSD with w10 on the y510p through the external monitor. But I would like to do a clean install and ofcourse use the main monitor aswell(The main monitor does not appear in device management, but the external monitor seems to appear twice).

Hi Adil,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Kindly perform Power Drain and set BIOS default:
Try turning off and removing the battery first. With adapter charger unplug, press Power button for 15seconds to drain power inside.  Plug in adapter charger and press Novo button instead of the power key to turn it on for the Novo Menu  Choose BIOS setting  On Exit tab , load optimal default then Y then place battery back before save changes and exit.

Let us know how you get on.

A:Y510p - problem starting laptop

Hi dudescuman ,

Greetings.

Take the opportunity to back up anything that you would need from the machine.
Running lenovo diagnostics with temperature checker would help isolate points of failure.

BIOS and Lenovo logo should still appear even without a harddrive .
How is the power LED and Battery LED status (page29) ?
Would pressing the caps and num lock on / off show any response from the leds?

Update us how it goes.

So this morning I woke up like usual and start my laptop up. It took a while like usual to boot up then it went straight to the your computer needs restarting blue screen and I thought hmmm this happened a few times and usually gets fixed. This time it went not to the home lock screen but the trouble shooting blue screen after picking my language and type of keyboard. Then it goes to two options "advance options" or "shutdown" I go to advance settings then there were 3 more options. Refresh settings, reset settings or advance options so I chose refresh cause I didn't want my files to get erased since I haven't backed them up yet. I click refresh and a message says that my drive where Windows is installed is locked. And it told me to unlock it and try again. So how do I access this? I forced shutdown but the same thing happens for a few times. Now I'm worried about this problem. Can anyone help me before I actually have to reset my laptop?

Hello, I have a Y510P notebook and I am having some problems with it. Once I was playing on this laptop and it suddenly it turned off. The power cord would make a weird noise and it wouldn't turn on. After a while it started to work normally. It was probably a high voltage spike in my house, since we already lost a cellphone. After that I notice that the laptop would turn off, as soon as I plugged the power cord. I ordered a new power cord and battery, but this issue is still happening. Anyone has an idea? Thank you!

A:Plugging power cord turns laptop off (Y510P)

Hi Tiagoramosleite,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can initially start isolating the issue using the power checkout guideline (page 21).
Try to notice anything on the DC port like bent pin , unusual appearance / marks or smell of burnt .

Would any led status light (page30) still be lit when plugged in.

It would be best to have it further checked for further isolation for dc in port issue against failure on the systemboard itself with nearest service center or call in technical support for further recommendation.

Update us how it works best for you.

Regards

My Lenovo IdeaPad y510p displays nothing but a blank black screen when the power button is pressed, the keyboard lights up and the fan spins but no part of the computer seems to boot at all. I have tried removing all power supplies/cables and flushing the battery by holding the power button for 15 seconds, as well as using the NOVO button on the side. The NOVO button does exactly the same thing as the power button. Interestingly the laptop's screen doesn't even appear to turn on, let alone display anything. I'm at a loss for what to do with this as I'm not confident the warranty is still active (the laptop is at least three years old).  Thanks for any help

Hello everyone..
Yesterday my laptop pushed a new Win 10 update, and all went fine, or at least I think so.
But today I see that my Sony WALKMAN - which I used with no problem until now, can't be recognized anymore.

Basically it just shows as (E or Usb Drive E: but when I click it it says "Please insert a disk into E:/" like there is nothing there.

Now the interesting part is.. if I go to Device Manager I see it and clicking on properties etc t says it's working fine.

But if I go to Disk Management, the Drive shows as 14 gb of unallocated space and it's greyed out.

However, if I put it on my brother's laptop, it works perfectly and it can be opened, music moved into it etc - it shows as Healthy - Primary Partition in Disk Management. So it doesn't seem broken...

It's the same on each of the 4 usb ports btw. But, other usb devices (2 phones, 1 tablet) don't have any issue and are detected.

What could have caused this? I tried the basic Disable/Enable in Device Manager and also Uninstall Driver.. It doesn't do anything, it appears back when I replug it in.

No change in Safe Mode and no change after sfc /scannow

If anyone has any idea I'd be happy to try anything to fix this..

Thanks!

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

Hello everyone here at Tech Guy (.org), I'm in a situation which has got me a little flustered. I recently was using my computer (dual monitoring - one LCD Monitor using a DVI port, and one CRT Monitor using a DVI port with an AGP adapter). I had shut down my computer thinking I wasn't going to be using it for the rest of the day and later realized I had needed to get back on. I go to turn on my computer and my primary monitor display (LCD monitor using the DVI port) could not find a signal. I then turned on my CRT monitor (using the DVI port with an AGP adapter), and to my amazement, I found myself looking at the Windows XP login screen. I figured that my multiple display had just "messed up" a little and that all I needed to do was go back into my NVIDIA control panel and make my LCD monitor my main display once more.

When I opened up the control panel, I found that there wasn't even an option for me to have dual displays, and my computer was not picking up my LCD monitor at all. I rebooted my computer once more, and avast - no luck once again. So I thought maybe my DVI port on that side went on the fritz and so I switched the adapter over and plugged my monitor into that port. Still no luck. I went and reinstalled my video card drivers, and still no luck.

I don't see how my monitor could have done something like this within an hour that it was off while I was wrapping Christmas gifts. The only explaination I can even think of is that my cord... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension XPS R400 (old). It does not recognize the monitor any more. The message on the monitor says "No Sync Input". I have tried 3 different monitors and get the same result. Is it possible that I disconnected/loosened something on the motherboard when I installed an additional HD?

A:Monitor not recognized

What video card? Yes, if you weren't careful installing the drive you could have bumped the video card, dislodging it, that would cause the monitor to give you this signal. Or your video card has broken. Me thinks, you bumped the video card. Check to make sure it's pushed all the way down in the slot.

Hopefully one of the many experts here can help me. Santa brought me an LCD TV/monitor combo that has both VGA and DVI inputs. My Dell pc has a video card with both outputs. When I connect a DVI cable between the two the TV does not recognize the PC at all ("no cable connected"). When I connect the two via a VGA cable it works fine. Do I have to change a setting in my PC to activate the DVI output or what? I've looked under the settings for my card (Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64mb) but see no mention of DVI output. I have upgraded the nvidia drivers to the most recent ones. I am running WinXP SP2.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

My junkie daughter grabbed my monitor, acting like she was going to throw it. By doing so, she pulled the cable as tight as it would go. A couple of weeks later, the usb for my wireless mouse started acting up and then, after going through the computer, taking out cords and re-seating them, the monitor is no longer being recognized.

I thought perhaps that the monitor port had been disengaged so I sent the motherboard back as a warranty. I received the new motherboard today, did the install and the monitor is still not being recognized. I tested the monitor and the cord by hooking it up to my laptop and everything works fine.

I have a MSI 785GTM-E45 motherboard, am running Windows 7 with 2G ram. I have built computers for years now and cannot for the life of me figure out why this is acting like this. I do not have a separate graphics card which I can to test this. Since the monitor works fine when hooked up to the laptop, I know it is not the monitor or the cables.

I have tried taking everything out of the new MB and replacing it to no avail. Everything is still a no go.

Any help would be appreciated. My only other option is to send the CPU back as a warranty but I doubt that is the problem.

Hello everyone,

I used to have 2 monitors connected to my pc, both working fine.
Now i got 2 new monitors (LG Flatron E2240) and i tried connecting them the same way as i had my previous monitors connected.
What i see is that both new monitors have a VGA-output. So i put a connector on them so i can connect them to the DVI-slots on my videocard (Radeon HD 6800).

Now i just cant seem to get a second monitor to work. It stays black, receives no signal and both windows 7 as CCC (AMD Engine Control Center latest version) do not recognize a second monitor.

Both monitors work fine if i connect them as a single monitor to my pc. Using the second slot on my videocard just doesnt seem to work.

I did install the drivers that came with the monitor, no effect.
Tried to use different resolutions on both monitors, no effect.
Tried looking for answers, but found nothing, so here i am ;-)

Hope anyone can help me and ofcourse willing to give extra info on this if needed.

Thanks allready!!!

E2240T | LG LED, Sincerely yours! | LG ELECTRONICS Nederland

It has both a VGA and a DVI port on it and you need to use the DVI connection on at least one of them. The reason that only one will work using the VGA connection is that the only one of the DVI ports on the video card supports a VGA connection via a VGA-DVI adapter.

Ok, so today I installed a bunch of new updates (dont remember any of them) and one of them apparently caused a problem I have become familiar with. If i try to enter the nvidia control panel I get this message:You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU. This problem seems to be caused by installing new drivers, intel or nvidia. So I went and did my fix method which involves uninstalling all the nvidia and intel drivers, then restarting once. This causes the monitor to display nothing which is what normally happens. I then restart again and everything is fine. I imagine that during the first blank screen restart the computer is installing old drivers that work. So anyways, this time after the second restart I still got no display at all. For some reason my computer wont recognize my monitor or video card or both. I am very confident that none of my hardware is broken. My main video card is a gtx 560 and the other one is some intel hd thing that came with the computer. On start up I get a message showing my monitors logo after that I get a message that says no signal and the monitor goes into power saving mode and displays nothing.

So basically to sum things up, I uninstalled my nvidia drivers and now my monitor gets no signal and displays nothing.

A:Monitor displays nothing/isn't being recognized

"My main video card is a gtx 560 and the other one is some intel hd thing that came with the computer"...

"the other one is some intel hd thing"
This is your motherboard's on-board video and it should be disabled in the bios, so that the 560 can work properly. The 560 is PCIe x16 right? Is the PCIe slot enabled in the bios?

Ok. I'm confused. I have built a new computer and need to enable the on board sound in the bios. The only problem is that my monitor doesn't initialize until the computer boots into windows. It has just started doing this, but I've not changed anything from when it was not doing it before! When I reboot and hit DEL to enter the bios, the monitor just never comes on. If I reboot and let it go, it kicks on when the computer enters windows.

Any thoughts?!

The monitor is a Gateway 22" WS. Video card is an ATI HD3850. Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Monitor not recognized until windows!

For some reason either your computer is defaulting to the integrated video device (if you have one) or the other output port on your video card.

If it's the first, then just connect your monitor to the integrated video port and see if you have some setting in the BIOS to disable onboard video or select the primary video device.

In the second case, connect your monitor to the other output port.

Ok I am trying to do this I have my ASUS monitor for when I play like hard core PC Games or racing sims on my PC but then I have an HDMI running to my TV both monitors can run 1080P so on and so forth. I have done this before but until recently. When ever I re seed the connection to my tv from my computer the connection works, however if I do anything, anything at all I lose the connection until I reseed my HDMI cable. I run two video cards, the HD 5770 and the HD 5870, I cannot use any of the ports on the 5870 because the primary card (for some reason) is the 5770 (so at least I have a hdmi port). I am trying to find out why I am not keeping the connection with my tv so that I can watch shows and stuff like that.

A:Second monitor is only recognized after reseeding.

I would remove the 5770 and put the 5870 in the first PCI Express-16 slot (closest one to the CPU) and get the monitors working off that card alone, and not even use the 5770 at all, that's not nearly as good a card, and the extra PCI Express-16 slots might not even be full speed slots, which is common and so it would actually be a performance detriment.

See where you are at after that as far as the monitors working goes....

I used to use a 5850, but I am at a 7950 now.

i downloaded some vids, can play them and hear them on my laptop and tv but cannot see the vid part on the tv. i can hear the sound, can see windows or real player starting up but cannot see the vid on the tv. do you think i might have accidentally reset something governing the tv vid reception? incidentally, if i stream the vid from the same site, i can see it on tv and laptop. think the problem is on their end? seems like it.

and lastly, i scan a lot of things. after each scan a box pops up so i can type a name for the file and put it somewhere. the place to put it always is listed as my pics but i change it to my docs. i scan again and my pics is back again. how do i change it for good.

what if i want to just scan a lot of papers and eventually put them in a folder when i am done. is there a way to eliminate that box from popping up. i use dell 922 printer all-in-one.

I replaced my monitor with another, newer monitor that I had sitting around not in use. When I plugged it in, I got a message about a analog signal and it went to sleep.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

A:monitor not recognized by computer

Okay. What exactly was the message about analog signal? Which cable do you use to connect your computer to your monitor? Is this a VGA connector or a DVI one?

Also, monitors with multiple connectors have the option to choose which one to use a signal source. For example, if your monitor accepts both VGA and DVI connectors, you can access monitor's menu and try either to see if you've got signal. You should refer to monitor's manual to see where exactly can you find this function.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

hello. recently i decided to get an external monitor because the lower half of my laptop screen is blanked out due to dropping it some months ago. anyway, i wanted to watch things fullscreen, so i found an old external monitor. the first time i plugged it in, and for many other times, it worked just as one might assume -- fine. however, recently i just tried to connect again and while the computer clearly recognizes the input of the vga (it makes a sound and resizes the screen a bit), and whereas it initially immediately went to dual display on the monitor in the past, it just displays that there is no signal. furthermore in the screen resolution menu it tells me "another display is not detected".

i made sure to update all of my drivers to no avail, have tried other monitors, etc. i'm getting frustrated as this is a simple matter usually of just plugging in the vga between both the laptop and monitor, but this has become a matter that has consumed considerable time now. can anyone help me resolve this issue?

So I am having this extremely frustrating problem. My bootcamp partition on my MacBook pro will not recognize my TV. I have a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter, with the HDMI going into the TV. I have tried custom drivers, updating / rolling back the drivers, different HDMI cords, and different TVs (Samsung and LG). The TV is displayed fine when running OSX. I have posted this problem on about 6 different sites today, and no luck so far.

If nothing works, I will just buy a MDP to VGA adapter and do it that way without sound.

A few months ago, I finally upgraded from a CRT to a flat screen monitor and I started having a whole bunch of issues. I found out the problem was my video card and bought a new one which fixed all those issues, however one problem has returned just as of yesterday.
Every 2nd time I startup my computer, it doesn't recognize my monitor. The computer turns on fine, but the monitor says "no video input". If I shutdown and restart again, all is well, but on the next shutdown the same thing will happen.

It's consistent with being every 2nd time as well. It's not like it works for a bit then stops. It's exactly every 2nd time.
When I had the problems a few months ago, it did this with several different monitors I had tried when troubleshooting at that time, so I'm guessing it's not the monitor itself, however I no longer have a 2nd monitor to confirm this.

Anybody have any ideas what might cause this?

most probably you are on an unsupported resolution or refresh rate.
i recommend lowering the resolution all the way on the 17in, and then switching to the 32in. that should work fine if that is the issue and then you can increase the resolution again as needed....

Just re-installed my Windows 7 on my laptop because it was having issues. Now, my monitor fails to send it's correct maximum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, but rather sends 1024 x 768 thus that's what Windows recognizes.

I believe the issue is with the EDID, because I have installed different drivers and none of them worked so I just switched back to the most recent one.

I saw the use of monitor asset manager on a previous post, so I ran that and received this output. Hopefully it helps.

I appreciate any and all help regarding this matter. I believe my specs are posted on my profile.

So I have multiple external monitors. When I'm not usually all of them, I turn the ones off I don't need. I just press the power button on the front of the external monitor.

The problem is when I move my mouse, it will still go in the direction of the monitor that's off, causing me to lose my mouse, because I can't see it.

Is there anyway to prevent the computer from seeing the external monitor when I have it powered off? The external monitors are Dell U2414h monitors and the laptop is Lenovo x230 Tablet with Windows 7. The graphics card is intel hd graphics 4000. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I got this problem probably 3 days ago, I woke up one morning and saw that my computer had restarted itself from a Windows Update.

I turned my monitors on, and it only seemed as if one was plugged in, (the Samsung on the right).

So I checked connections, had a look in screen resolution settings and CCC, and neither could detect my ASUS on the left.

After more screwing around, I unplugged both monitors, and then just plugged in the ASUS using its own cable and port that it always uses, and the screen came on.
So to me, this rules out cable and GFX card problems?

I now see in CCC that the ASUS is an Unknown monitor, it ALWAYS used to say ASUS.

Now when I plug in my Samsung, the ASUS turns off and the image moves over to the Samsung.

For the ASUS I use a DVI to HDMI cable (HDMI end at GFX card)
and the the Samsung uses a regular DVI cable.

Thanks guys

Forgot to add; I also tried graphics driver rollback, uninstall Windows Update and then downloaded latest AMD graphics drivers, none of which seemed to help at all.

Greetings all, new here... Generally fend for myself when it come to these sorts of things but after hours of following threads and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, connecting, disconnecting, I figured I'd try to get some help.

Just bought this machine, Asus K50IN laptop with an Nvidia G102M 512mb graphics card in it. I work as a DJ and VJ and this is my primary machine and means of living, it needs to be reliable in different scenarios and work its a*s off an average of 5 nights a week.

So long story short: bought machine, installed a clean version of Win 7 Ultimate and then all relevant drivers... Things worked great the first week. No issues. Then 2 nights ago I plugged into my normal rig (a toshiba projector with an extension monitor daisy chained to it at one of the clubs I work in) and everything was tinted bright pink. I messed with it for a few minutes but I was late already and there were people to entertain so I played anyway with this weird pink tint over everything.

Last night, back to work again... Came early to try and fix the bugger before I would be pressured to play. Adjusted settings in Nvidia control panel, messed with color, resolution, etc. At some point while doing this the secondary display went black and never came back on.

I have reset all settings, completely uninstalled, updated, etc etc etc... Even on my secondary monitor at home, same deal. Monitor is on and says all is fine and working properly but my desktop won't extend to the sec... Read more

It's on, and the computer thinks everything is hunky dory.

I've tried about everything software wise I can think of and am starting to think the VGA out may be buggered.

Anyone???

Hi nzl! I am a new poster here as well!

I am inclined to agree that your "VGA out may be buggered". If you are plugging two separate known working "monitors" into your laptop vga port and neither is displaying anything, then it is pretty good deductive analysis that the vga port is "buggered".

The reason I agree with your final (if hesitant) analysis is that, after the initial install, you stated that everything worked fine. Then after a bit things went pink. And th... Read more

Dell Precision T3500 desktop (12 gb ram / two 750 gb hds)NVidia Quadro 600 Video Card Dell 1703 FP Monitor (2nd Monitor)*** 24" TV (primary monitor)
The primary monitor and secondary monitors are both connected to the Quadro 600 video card. The primary monitor is connected using the display port with an HDMI adapter by HDMI. The Dell monitor is connected by a DVI cable.
Both the Windows and NVIDIA control panels are saying that both monitors are connected and functioning properly. However, I get no picture from the Dell monitor being used as an extension of my desktop. The pointer will go to the left screen and back but nothing shows up on the Dell screen.
The only thing I can get the Dell monitor to display is the startup graphic and a message that says it's in sleep mode and that by moving the mouse or pressing any key it will "wake up."
Is the Quadro 600 capable of sending signals to two different moniors in this way. I've read a bit on the forums here and it sounds as though the Dell monitor is not getting a signal from the Quadro 600, but the Quadro 600 documentation clearly says it's capable of multiple monitors, which was a significant reason for choosing this machine, despite its age.
Any solutions?

So my comp is more or less a year old.

The issue is that my computer doesnt recognize my monitor on the first boot. I have to power it on and off several times for it to get recognized or alternatively power it on and let it powered on for like some minutes then power it off and on again.
Things i tried:
*checked gpu and ram on the mainboard to see if they are loose and reattached them
*plugged my comp to the TV in the living room (same problem occurs)
*resetted bios
*unplugged hdd/dvd drive and booted the comp to see if it makes a difference (less energy consumption)
The thing is once the comp is on i can play hardware hungry games for extended hours without having a single issue.
Would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

I have no monitor, mouse, or keyboard function whatsoever. I have tried multipe restarts with no change. I checked out the monitor, mouse and keyboard with another computer and they seem to be functioning properly. I suspect  a hardware problem, maybe the power unit? Got a weird one here that I can't solve but have an idea what it might be.

I'm running a Nvidia 8500GT video card and it has 2 video outputs, one VGA, one DVI. I wanted to run 2 monitors and connected a second one and set it up in the control panel to run dual view. It worked great in the beginning, but then started having some weird problems.

The first thing that happened is that the video card resolution settings would change sometimes on startup. Then it started thinking by Sammy 22" was a Generic CRT.

Then what I started noticing was that sometimes the monitors went into sleep mode (the monitors, not the PC), it wouldn't wake up when I moved the mouse or hit a key. When I tried rebooting it the monitors still wouldn't wake up but I could hear the PC booting up to the logon screen and making the logon sound.

Then I tried just going back to one monitor and the problem is persisting. If I leave the PC off for a few hours it will sometimes recognize the monitor on startup, but then after a while it will go into sleep mode and won't wake up.

Is it the video card? The drivers are all up to date. I've read the running dual view can be hard on the card? Do I need more power to run dual view? I'm not running it anymore.

I'm tempted to just try and run another card but if I can avoid dropping $100 for nothing...

Hmm, just tried rebooting PC and now it's not even rebooting, tried a couple times.

Forgot to mention that the power supply blew up about 4 months ago. Everything seemed fine after I replaced it though. Could it have shortened the life of the motherboard?

I'm not sure if this is a video card issue (AMD Radeon HD 6770), driver issue or monitor issue. I just rebuilt my system (Win7 Pro 64 bit) and everything has been functioning correctly for about two day. Now, when my computer resumes from sleep mode, my resolution defaults to 600 x 800 and says it is a generic PnP monitor. If I unplug the display port cable from the back of the computer and plug it back in, everything immediately goes back to normal and the system recognizes my monitor and goes to the correct resolution settings. This does not happen on a restart or after a shutdown, only after a resume from sleep mode and about 60% of the time. This never occurred before the rebuild so I am wondering if I have a driver conflict somewhere? I changed the setting in the monitor from auto to display port, but that did not change anything. I have been using the display port connection since I got the monitor without issue. All of my Windows updates and drivers are up-to-date and the driver version for my video card say 8.960.0.0, March 15/12.

A:Monitor not recognized when computer resumes from sleep mode

If you can, disconnect and reconnect the device or try restarting your computer. You can also make sure that you have the most current drivers for all of your devices.

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 on my replacement boot disk (old one died) on May 25/12. Since June 4 (and at least once before that), daily my monitor is no longer recognized and the screen resolution is decreased. It doesn't know about my Samsung monitor anymore.

It now shows this:
Display: Generic Non-PnP Monitor, Resolution: 1024x768.

When I run personalize, screen resolution, detect,
Windows sees the correct monitor (SyncMaster 245B(Analog)) and sets the resolution to 1920 x 1200. Meanwhile all my open apps are resized smaller, I have to resize them again.

I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is. It's not necessarily happening at the same time and I can't seem to find an error in event viewer. Any ideas how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue?

A:my monitor is no longer recognized, screen resolution is decreased

The most interesting part of your post for me was 'Since June 4'.

I have also been having display problems recently. In my case one monitor would have a display only on bootup then go black, another monitor would always be black and Change display settings would say that there was no monitor.

When I tried to do a System Restore it said that there had been a Windows 7 Update on Jun 4!

I was able to get the two monitors eventually to work as they once did, not using Change display settings but rather by using Catalyst Control Center which on my computer is the factory installed video adaptor interface.

Finally, I didn't understand 'When I run personalize, screen resolution, detect, ', please explain.

Hello all,
I have a Phillips 32" LCD (model # 32TA2800/98) that I connect my laptops to with a VGA cable. I usually had my Gateway NV53A (AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series Graphics card) connected and I never had a problem. Recently I connected my Samsung to the monitor and again, had no problems. When I reconnect my gateway the PC detects the monitor but the monitor does not detect the PC. If I switch back to the Samsung it works fine. I have reset the TV to factory default the only way I know how (owners manual). I have unplugged the power cable to the TV for 10 min+. I have changed from a 14 pin VGA to a 15 pin. I have updated all drivers.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Could it be that the TV has a capacitor that holds the settings for an extended period of time? Maybe I should leave it unplugged for 24-48 hours?

I have a dell laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution. However, i connect it to an external monitor that has 1920x1200 resolution. Basically almost everything i do is on my external monitor which acts as my main primary screen. Thus i do sometimes open some windows or drag a window or so to the other screen like youtube etc to the laptop screen which is the secondary monitor.

My issue at the moment is everything is way too big on the laptop screen. I want to have 1920x1080 resolution but its way too big. I googled what is my resolution on it and it shows 1536 x 864. Can someone tell me how to change this to 1920x1080? I googled what is my resolution on the external monitor and it does show 1920x1200 which is correct.

My external monitor which is my main monitor is fine at the moment with the 1920x1200. Its windows 10 but im assuming this should be very similar to windows 7 to fix this issue?

Windows 10 laptop. I connect it to an external monitor and use hdmi cable. My external monitor is my main monitor. I use the laptop monitor as the secondary monitor. I extend the display.

My desktop icons are always on my external monitor desktop. I had moved the hdmi cable connected to my laptop i believe which caused all my icons from my external monitor to go on the laptop monitor. Also there is even spacing on all of the icons. Has anyone had this happened? I then clicked sort and then it rearranged so there is no spacing etc. However, i then noticed hey why are my icons on my laptop monitor and not my external monitor.

Does anyone know why this happened? When i open chrome and other programs, it does open up on my external monitor though which is my primary monitor. I believe i can just drag each of the icons on my desktop on my laptop screen to my external monitor. So just do this and that fixes the issue right? Or is there a way to have all the icons just move to the external monitor. The reason i ask this is in case the icons just suddenly move to the laptop screen again.

I didn't know if I should have put this in the general discussion page or the video card page but here it is.

My laptop has been acting up today. I would open the lid and it would have strange colors. For example blues would be a strange red color. But it would automatically fix itself and go back to normal colors.

I was suspicious but didn't think much of it. Later today I walked past it and the monitor was black nothing on it. So i pushed the power button and shut it down.

Than the fun began It would show me the splash screen Dell when you first boot it up like for some it would say ASUS or such depending on the mobo they had installed. It to had messed up colors only it did not correct this time than the screen went black. I waited a few minutes hoping it would wake up and give me a screen.....witch it never did.

I rebooted several more time trying to get into the bios or anything with a screen witch also failed. The DELL splash screen never failed to come up though.

After close observation I noticed there was something on the screen it was just really dark and barely readable. It said something to the effect of "Windows has failed to start" and gave me the option of booting normal or startup repair.

I eventually shut the lid and got a secondary monitor and tried to use it. Apparently shutting the lid disables the primary monitor and lets you use the monitor you plug in. And now I have a screen again. It worked.

A:Laptop monitor dilema. Is it the monitor or the intigrated video card.

Hi computergeekguy,

Since you are getting 'video' on an 'external display', it appears to be an LCD related issue with the laptop. You may also try to run the LCD BIST (Built in self test) to check the 'LCD display performance' when separated from the 'graphics'. You may find the following steps useful:
- Power off the laptop
- Press and hold down letter <D> on the keyboard
- Power the laptop back on (continue to hold the letter <D>)
- Laptop enters in the 'LCD diagnostic environment' (check the performance)

If your laptop does not enter the diagnostic mode, you may also try to release the 'flea power':
- Power off the laptop
- Unplug the AC Adapter and Battery
- Press and hold down the 'power button' for 10 - 15 seconds
- Plug the 'Adapter cable' back in and launch the 'LCD BIST' again

Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

I think I'm screwed, but I'll get all of your opinions first...

My laptop (Ashton Digital Maximate) has had basically NO problems for nearly a year, until about a couple of months ago my 1-year old yanked on the power cord and messed it up. You could jiggle it around a bit and it would work, but eventually the wiggling wouldn't work.

So, lacking the money to buy a new power cord, and worried that even if I did it might be the actual plug hole and not the cord (my warranty just ran out too), the laptop basically just sat there for weeks.

Finally, I realized that I needed several of the files off of the hard drive so I bought one of those 2.5 IDE to 3.5 IDE converters in order to copy what I needed to my desktop. I'm pretty sure I plugged everything in correctly, matching up PIN 1 on the cables and adapter, setting the laptop hard drive to slave, but it wouldn't recognize at all. So I put my desktop back together the way it was before, and now the desktop hard drive wasn't recognizing (my slave one that I took off to hook up the laptop HDD). I tried a different IDE cable and it worked fine. So, apparently I had blown out the IDE cable somehow. So there my laptop sat for a while longer.

Finally, I got mad today and cut open the power cord to my laptop and discovered that the problem was simply that 2 wires had come loose. Soldered them back on, and God said let there be light.

However, now when it boots up, the system doesn't recognize t... Read more

I am one of the few people to still have one of those bulky monitors of yesteryear. I've got an broken laptop and the screen looks to be in good shape. I don't know how to go about making it work a desktop monitor or it it would even work but I'll tell you all I can ahead of time. It's a 15.4" screen from a Compaq Presario X1000. The frame to it is gone so all I have is a screen connected to the rest of it hanging by some wires. The wires it's hanging by are a flat collection of wires that seem to be laminated together or something. There are 14 wires laminated in total. There is a bare copper wire followed by three wires that are metallic red, followed by 9 metallic blure, followed by another bare copper. The red and blue seem to be painted or something as opposed to the insulation I'm used to as a residential electrician in training. When the lamination ends it is wrapped in gray nylon. This goes into the laptops screen hinge. There is more wire coming out from the gray part, wrapped in black nylon with a white plug type thing at the end. This is plugged into something labeled SPS-Inverter, It's a green board with some stuff on it. On the other end of the inverter there is white plug recepticle with a white wire and a pink wire plugged in it. This is my first real computer DIY aside from swapping out a power supply and adding ram, keep that in mind.

A:Taking a laptop monitor and making it a desktop monitor

My advice is for forget it. The interface is totally different between that panel and a typical PC display. Bite the bullet and buy a new monitor.

Turned out video output was channeled to the vga port Fn+F4 on this model switched back and forth.
Cleaned out tons of viruses, everything good now, but laptop boots up with monitor #1 (Generic PnP monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G) as remote vga jack, and monitor #2 (default monitor on NVIDIA 8200M G) as my laptop screen as disabled.

When I try to make the laptop screen enabled (by extending the screen to it, then selecting "this is my main monitor), and click apply or save, it asks me to confirm, but doesn't take.

Deleting the drivers can sometimes get the laptop display running as primary, until the next book, then it all reverts to the remote vga port as primary.
if I boot with a linux disc - Kaspersky rescue, for example, it uses the laptop screen just tine.
So what, in a perfect world, should be my primary screen (the laptop screen) is identified as monitor 2 in DISPLAY SETTINGS. My VGA jack should be secondary but is always monitor 1

other notes: Fn+F4 no longer does anything ... will not switch between, I guess because my laptop screen is disabled.

Please help!

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1501 that I have had for almost a year and a half. Within the last two weeks, I started getting a message each time I start the laptop. It says that the battery is not recognized and will not be able to charge. It gives me the option to continue, enter setup or the boot menu. I always continue and the have no issues with the battery being recognized or charging. Is there a fix to prevent this, or can I expect something to happen to my laptop shortly? Thanks for any advice.

Try to shutdown your laptop, remove the battery, then put it back in and reboot.

I just had my hard drive reimaged with Windows 7. When I plug my smartphone into the USB port, I hear the bong/bong that it was plugged in, and I even get the window saying that it's installing drivers. But when I go to Windows Explorer, I don't see it as plugged in. I've tried numerous "solutions" online, but nothing has worked.

I just looked in Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" is there with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark in it. Although I right-click it and update - or uninstall, then scan for hardware changes - neither works.

How can I get my computer to recognize this smartphone?

Addendum: I deleted everything related to Apple, including Bonjour, Quicktime, and iTunes, then tried to reinstall iTunes since I thought that it would install the necessary drivers. It succeeded until the very end, when I got this error:

The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes.

I'm at a complete loss. Not only does iTunes not install, but my Windows 7 computer doesn't even recognize my smartphone when I plug it in.

Greetings!

I have a HP Pavilion ze4610us that I want to upgrade the RAM (currently at 512 MB [2x256]) which, according to the manual, can take a maximum of 1 GB. All the research I've done point to the RAM being DDR, PC2700 (or PC2100), SODIMM, 200-pin.Yesterday, I bought two PNY 512MB and installed them. For some reason, the system will read only about 192MB, which makes XP SP2 run extreeemly slow. The RAM I bought states on the package that it is also compatible with PC2100 , so I don't think that would be an issue if the speed should be slower. So how do I get the system to recognize all of the RAM? I've even tried putting just one of the 512's in along with one of the other 256's and the system will recognize the full 256 and part of the 512 and show the RAM as approx 448MB. I tried both of the 512's and got the same results.
Earlier, I tried a Kingston 1GB and the computer wouldn't recognize it at all. So it went to my wife's computer and is working very well.
Since my question is buried in the middle of my rambling, here it is again: how do I get the system to recognize all of the RAM I'm installing?

I just purchased a new WD 160 GB hard drive with an enclosure to attach to my daughter's laptop through a USB cable. There is already an external WD 80 GB USB HD attached. The 160 GB hard drive does not show up when I click on "My Computer". It does, however, show up when I check the device manager. I then tried to plug it into my desktop and the same thing happened (both machines are running WinXP).

I need to transfer all the data off the 80GB and onto the 160GB. I am trying to use GetDataBack and I am at a stand still at the moment. The 80GB just erased itself one night and it looks like the GDB might be able to recover most of her files. I just can't get the computers to recognize the new drive. It is set to cable select and then I tried it on slave, but neither one shows up in "my computer" and the slave setting was even worse.

Could it have anything to do with it being a big drive (160GB)?

Any help would be appreciated.

A:New External HD for Laptop not recognized

check in Disk Manager. The drive is going to have to be partitioned and formatted before you can see it in My Coputer or Windows Explorer. It will also need this before you can use the drive for anything. You will find Disk Management under Administrative Tools|Computer Mangement|Disk Management

It should show up as unallocated space. You can Partition it as a sngle disk or you can split it into more than one if you wish.

After installing some updates, my laptop's dvd drive has stopped showing up in device manager/my computer (well, in a way...but more on that momentarily) and will not read DVDs and CDs (annoying, post Christmas).

When I say that it is not shown in device manager, it is not shown as a recognised device, (there are 2 devices in 'other devices' which have little yellow triangles - 'coprocessor' and 'unknown device', I think the dvd drive is the unknown device). I've tried scanning for drivers and nothing comes up which fix the problem. I then tried a registry fix (as seen here: http://www.windows7news.com/2009/01/...ing-dvd-drive/).

The laptop is an HP Pavillion dv9700 (it came with vista but I installed windows 7 post purchase), and everything else runs fine, but it has had some issues booting while a cd was in the drive before I changed to boot order to not include the cd drive until after the hard drive (it hung at the motherboard logo if there was a disc in the drive, or at best took a long time to move past it if there was not disc in the drive when it was before the hard drive in the boot order)

I bought a new memory stick for my Compaq Presario 1930 laptop to go in the empty slot and bring the total, with the non-removable 64MB, to the max allowed 192 MB.

It doesn't show up in System Properties
It doesn't show up in the Device Manager
I ran Memtest, It doesn't show up there either.

I ran Everest, it shows there, but with no brand details.

Performance is the same with/without the new stick, I tried installing twice, and was careful about static.

Yes, I did go for a lower priced piece of RAM.

I'm ready to call it incompatable and send it back, what do you guys think?

Thank you in advance.

Is the drive not recognized anywhere OR just in My Computer? Please check Device Manager and the BIOS to see if it shows up there. If not then remove the drive from the laptop and then reinsert it and check those places again.

Hi. Recently I removed my laptops RAM. I've done this on many other laptops, and this was no different. I delicately removed its clamps, and it popped out, no problem. Later, putting it back in gently and starting it back up, my computer no longer recognized the RAM anymore.

I'm not sure what I could have done to possibly damage the RAM, as I'm always delicate with my computer equipment. I didn't remove the laptops casing, or anything else that might have caused damage, or a problem like that, save the casing that covered the RAM.

The laptop is a Dell Studio 1440. It also is worth mentioning I've built many of my own rigs in the past, and I barely touched the RAM the entire time. It's really quite perplexing, but moreover, frustrating, because the laptop is now running on < 1GB RAM, which is making life hell to even open a webpage. Hopefully someone out there has an answer, I'm about to go crazy.

Well I have an HP pavillion zt1175 laptop, and I put the battery in, and it isn't recognized.

I know the battery can hold a charge, I'm 100% sure about that, but the laptop isn't able to run off of it, and it is fully charged.

What's going on? One of my friends said they had to short their battery by tapping 2 pins together to "reset" the recognition in the battery.

The learning curve is steep and I'm out of ideas. I cloned the 30gb Ultra ATA drive from my Dell Inspiron 600M to a Seagate Momentus 5400 Ultra ATA 160gb with an Apricorn Update Kit - a first for me. That seemed to go well, but the new drive is not recognized in the BIOS -"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found." The drive is enabled.

I'm confused about the jumper setting since on the drive it shows no jumpers if you want it to be the Master, and that's how my original drive is set. but the Seagate site says it should be in the Cable position, 7&8. I don't have a jumper to play with (but read that I might find one on a CD drive). Have read conflicting notes in here but think that that would cause the drive not to be recognize? Yes?

Tried to use the SeaTools diagnostics from Seagate, but no luck.

When I put the Seagate drive in, I don't feel it "seat" like the old drive and wonder if for some reason it just isn't connected properly??

No problems getting my old drive back in and running (no problems with it).

There should be no compatibility problem as best I could tell.

I'm hoping it is just a jumper issue but before I go tearing more things apart I thought I'd get some feedback.

Thanks!

I just "installed" memory into my parents Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop. I clipped it in, but it still says that only 256 is installed in the task manager. I don't know why it says this. The laptop is still slow.

http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con...ll-Inspiron+1000&distributor=0&submit1=Search

It says " System may ship with either DDR266 (KTD-INSP8200) or DDR333 (KTD-INSP5150). " I bought the 5150, does it matter which one you buy?

My windows 7 is no longer recognised by my laptop and the key at the bottom of my laptop has been rubbed away.

Is there any way to resolve this or am I having to pay for a new key?

A:Windows 7 is not recognized on my Satellite laptop

Most of Toshiba notebooks are delivered with preinstalled operating system, with so called recovery image. This recovery image contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tolls and utilities and some additional software. This OS version is activated and must not be activated at all.

Product key from the sticker belongs to this recovery image and cannot be used for any other OS activation.
I don?t know which version do you use but if you use version installed with original Microsoft installation disc this product key is useless.

If you have created recovery disc use this disc and install original and already activated Win7 version. If you want to keep preinstalled OS you must buy valid OS licence.

It's very common for the power jack to break it's solder connection at the circuit board. Need to have another jack installed. Usually between $100 and $400 when you can find someone willing to do it (not necessarily a given). Had the same problem on my HP. That's why the new Macs have a magnetic power contact--no more torquing the curcuit board.

I have a Dell laptop that was working fine with my linksys wireless router when the other day it suddenly stopped working. I have a message that the network no longer recognizes the computer.

I rebooted both my main computer and the laptop thinking I may have had an IP conflict but that hasn't cured the problem.

My laptop is detecting the network but it has a red x next to it.

I made no changes to anything. Why would this be happening and would the problem be with the linksys router, my main computer, or the network magic program?

I don't think it's with the laptop as I stayed in a hotel the other night and was able to log in to their wireless network.

Where should I look first?

Hello All;

After following a tutorial on Syschat (cannot post link); (Basically hot swapping the laptop hard drive via adapter to desktop; copying i386 folder; place hdd back into laptop; run smartdrv; run winnt)

Brief Stats;
Tosihiba Portege 3500 Tablet -30GB -1.1GHz
DOS 7.10 Installed on FAT32
i386 folder copied to root (C
smartdrv copied to root (C

What happens;

I can load DOS 7.1 perfectly fine; keyboard on laptop works perfect.

After typing smartdrv, I type winnit.

As soon as Windows installer loads and asks to, select path where windows files are or press Enter.

From this point on I cannot do anything to progress further.

However, if I press the FN key, it lights up! But the keys do not work

Thanks in advance

My dvd-rw drive is no longer recognized in my Dell Inspiron 1501 which is a little over 2 years old. When I put a dvd or cd in it, it spins and the green light blinks as though it is checking to read it though. However, it will not go any further than that, and it doesn't appear on my hardware window or in my computer window.

I dropped my backpack last week, and the laptop was in it. I think this may have something to do with it, but I'm not sure. Also, when it is closed now, on one of the corners, it seems to be sticking out a bit. This again makes me fear that dropping it messed it up, but the power still works. Therefore, I'm not really sure what it could be. Any ideas for things to test or how to fix it?

Hello,

I checked out the device manager and it said the video controller (vga adapter) driver was not installed so i installed it thinking that would fix my problem but it has not. It installed mobility radeon 7500 adapter i believe. Does anyone have any advice. Also, when i look at the display properties, it says i have multiple monitors attached when i do not.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Ps. Its a dell latitude 2.40 ghz with 1 gig of ram

A:Laptop monitor all choppy - monitor problem?

First, the multiple monitor issue: common with laptops, as they can support the primary LCD and/or an external monitor.

Next, go to dell.com and see if there any drivers for your laptop's lcd. This could solve the problems your having.

Hi,

Today I plugged an hdmi to vga cable into my Win 8 sony vaio, and I plugged the other VGA side of the cable into an acee 22" monitor. I then chose from the right hand windows 8 panel to "extend to monitor", the laptop screen went black, the monitor screen remained without signal (extended screen did not show on monitor) and now the laptop screen is black.

I am now stuck and both laptop and monitor screen not working.

I tried unplugging cable, pressing fn and all the f1 to f12, shift, windows button but nothing is working.

I pressed off button then switched laptop back on and it showed the sony vaio logo on laptop then the screen went black again.

Please tell me how could I return my laptop screen to work and stop the screen extension which is not working and which I am sure is the case.

Any buttons on keyboard to click at all?

Any solution is highly appreciated.

Thank you

A:- Help - Extended monitor and laptop monitor not working

It's stuck in an extended screen it seems, boot into Safe Mode while you have all external monitors unplugged - Your Display is probably set to a resolution too high for both the external monitor and the laptop monitor, so you'll have to try "Boot to VGA mode" and I don't know where that is in the Windows 8 Boot GUI, if it is even in there at all.
Here is is- There are several ways to get to that from the Boot screen:

Advanced "Startup Settings" - Boot to in Windows 8
