ViewSonic Monitor Won't Square Up In Corners

Q: ViewSonic Monitor Won't Square Up In Corners

I just bought a new 19" A90F+ ViewSonic Monitor (not flat panel LCD) and everything went great for my 1st week. After this when I would move my mouse to take it off standby my perportions were off and the I could only see half the taskbar...I guess it change the display areas automatically. Also I have noticed some of the edges kinda slant in or curve at the edges some. It's so frustration because the bottom seems to be fine and the top corners can be half there. What's a joe to do?

PS: I Havne't even touched the OSD settings on the monitor itself...

Mike

Greetings all,

My ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is recognized as Generic Non-PnP Monitor. I even downloaded and attempted to install Viewsonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64". It times out at the end of installation and requests I download "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed" from Viewsonic website.

My display view is set at max res of 1600x1200. I am running Win7-Ultimate 64bit.

Is there any other way to get Win 7-Ultimate 64bit to recognize the monitor as VX? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256MB card.

Thank you

A:ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is a Generic Non-PnP Monitor

If you need to know, here is how I fixed it.
First install ViewSonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64"
Go to Device Manager
Select Monitor drop down tab
Select Generic PnP Monitor
Right-Click on Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Update Driver Software"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select from the models listed: Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Have Disk..."
Select "Browse..."
Navigate to where the ViewSonic monitor drivers are stored
Example: C:\ViewSonic
Select monitor driver
Example: VX2450_SERIES
Click "Open"
Click "OK"
Select from the pop up window:
ViewSonic on the left and ViewSonic VX2450 Series on the right
Click "Finish"

Finally, you will receive the message: Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
Notice resolution is now 1680x1050

After successful install of Nvidia drivers for my laptop's "nvidia geforce 9300m gs" current version:

186.19 to new version: 260.99, the max res cannot be set to the following available resolutions:
1920x1200, 1920x1440 or 2048x1536

Enjoy!

I recently bought an Inspiron 7559 laptop and then decided to clone the HDD with a Sandisk 1TB SSD. I also added another 8GB main memory. I replaced the drive and the PC worked just fine.
After a few days, I quick formatted the HDD and put it back in as a Data D drive. The day I did that Dell upgraded my BIOS and on reboot soon after a square block of white area appeared on the top left quadrant of either of my screens, the laptop or the U2415 (also brand new.) If I move between the screens then the other does not show the anomaly.
If I right click on the task bar and bring the desktop up the block gets painted over/filled with the background. However if I start an app, say a browser the block re-appears. I did Dell diagnostics which passed all the components and then also diagnostics via the BIOS and that also did not show any problem. I decided against the longer diagnostic for now.
There does not seem to be any issues but it would be good to solve it...maybe something came loose when I opened the back and replaced the SSD or the HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Sony HMD-A440 19-Inch CRT Monitor. I've owned this thing for about 2 years now.

I just upgraded my whole rig except my monitor.

When I reinstalled windows I noticed that there was this red blur or red shading at the top left and bottom right corners of my monitor. Although, it is much worse at the top left. Basically if you have any text in these corners, you can see the white text fine, but there will be a red echo of that text right next to it. I probably shouldn't put such an emphasis on the color red. I only see red when there is white text with a blue background (the windows default for application titles). The problem is the bluring.

The thing is it can be kinda hard to notice so I don't know if it's always been there, or if it somehow burned into my monitor after so much use.

Also this happens when I hook up the monitor to my laptop, so I'm pretty sure it's not the new video card.

Has anyone heard of this? I tried searching google but couldn't really find anything relevant. I don't have a digital camera or I'd take a picture.

Thanks.

About four months ago I bought a supposedly rebuilt Viewsonic P815. About one month after I hooked it up it started to not degause. The screen is pink.

Every once in a while it will correct itself and be fine for a day or two, then it goes pink again. I've replaced cords and plugs.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I'm trying to decide between the G90FB 19" or the P95F+B...
Here are the links:
G90FB
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-282&depa=1
P95F+B
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-232&depa=1

The only real difference between the 2 is the fact the Professional one (P95F+B) has an aperture grille while the Gaming (G90FB) has a shadow mask

I know the shadow mask uses dots (dot pitch) while the aperture grille uses lines instead of dots...

Which monitor will give me the best picture for gaming and crisp clear text.

A:Which is the better Viewsonic monitor?

If you can afford it I'd get the Professional version. I had Philips 107P (Professional) monitor with a .25 Aperture grille and it was the best monitor as far as picture quality/clairity I've ever seen (I'm sure there are better, but not without paying major money).

I run XP on a new box and a fairly new 19" (year old) View Sonic LCD monitor. The monitor worked as advertised on my old PC but when attached to my new one I frequently get a flashing green power indicator light and will get no picture.

This happens 100% of the time if I cold start the PC and I have to screw around with the restart button and on/off power button to get it to come back to life and in truth I do not know which combination of button pushing gets it to come back. I now use the power saver mode because that seems to be the most consistent way of bringing the monitor back to life but even that didn't work this am.

ViewSonic's web site wasn't much help.

Help here?

any ideas why it does this and how i can stop it???

Does it have a setting on it to set it to factory default settings? This should make your desktop shrink inside the full screen. Then just go back and adjust them accordingly.

With both Firefox and Chrome browsers, if I were to fullscreen the application onto a second monitor with no taskbar the hot corners cease functioning on that particular monitor; hot corners still function as normal on any monitor that does not have a full screened browser. Problem does not seem to happen with IE.

Possibly related is that if I have a video in full screen mode on the primary monitor (with the taskbar) and then I click into Firefox or Chrome on another monitor, the taskbar pops up over the full screen video and does not go away until I click somewhere else (either the desktop, another window, or the flash player icon on the taskbar). Problem persists with a window that has been fullscreened using the F11 key.

Considered some sort of graphics glitch/video card issue at first, however happens on two different systems but not a third; one with a Radeon 280x and one with two GTX 780s. Third computer also with two GTX 780s does not have same issue. All three computers have the latest drivers installed for their particular card.

Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for cards, flash software, browsers, disabled all addons/plugins (ran in safe mode), checked taskbar settings, everything I can possibly think of but cannot seem to find a fix for this issue.

Note that the hot corners resume working as long as the fullscreened browser is not the focused window. Can click another window or desktop to give it focus and then use the hot corners on the monitor ... Read more

My Viewsonic LCD monitor flashes on and off depending on what I am viewing. I can view pages in any program that has writing or a small number of small pictures without too much trouble. A web page with lots of pictures or the desktop and screen saver are the worst. The monitor flashes off so much on these last pages that I can barely see the page long enough to move the mouse and open a program or expand one from the start bar. I have checked cables, changed power cord, and checked video card drivers. Viewsonic website was no help. Anyone with any ideas?

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do you happen to know if you are operating the monitor at or beyond its normal operating range for resolution and refresh rates?

Do you get a stable image if you start Windows with a lower resolution in Safe mode?

In the future, it would help us to help you if you give more details like the model number of the monitor and how it is connected to the computer. The TSG reporting utility program does not produce an exhaustive and detailed report about all of the hardware related to your computer.

I have a ViewSonic 19" CRT monitor (bought new in '99) connected to a PC that runs Win XP SP2, 512 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium AGP card.

The system ran fine until I moved it (carefully) to another room. The CPU boots but the monitor does not give any video. I get a black screen with a repetetive blue area that indicates no signal. The specific line entry is "No Synch". I think I may have seen this in the past, when the monitor was powered on but the CPU was shut off. I can't be certain it's the exact same condition.

I switched cables and tried a different video card but no luck. I don't have another monitor other than my laptop. I think I can hook it up to act as a monitor but not certain. Can't afford to crash the laptop.

Any suggestions?

My 2nd attempt to get some help off the forums

A few days ago, I tried loading up Warcraft 3, a game, and the screen went black, with the light flashing on and off. If I alt tabbed out of WC3 the screen turned back on. The problem persisted after a restarted, so I left it for a while. A few hours later I tried and W3 worked fine, no problems.

However today I turn on my PC and after a few seconds during the boot up, the screen goes blank with the flashing on and off light again. I restart it and it goes blank even faster.
After a while on the forums (on my GFs laptop) I try pressing F8 before the screen goes blank, and then press ESC for the 'default' Boot option. It goes on to boot up normally, with screen errors. I test out warcraft 3, (since when I first saw this it was whilst starting up this program) and it works fine, and goes on to do so for a few hours, till I turn the screen off and on to see if the problem is permanently fixed. It hasn't, the screen goes black.
Upon restarting my PC I get the same error as before, Pressing F8 and Esc doesn't fix it anymore. However now after pressing Esc I get to the screen where they ask me if I would like to Boot up in Safe mode. I do so and it loads up in safe mode fine.
Later on I try again to get it to load in normal mode, it does first time. Then upon loading Warcraft 3 again, the screen goes black again, with the flashing light. Again rebooting results in the same black screen a few seconds into loading... Read more

I am running Vista Home Prem.I use an 8800 GTS EVGA.I have the latest drivers for my 8800. I run 2 Viewsonic monitors. One is a VG900b and is fine. I also run a VX2235 digital monitor. Both monitors are listed in device manager by model. I manually installed drivers directly off of the discs.I have also downloaded Viewsonic's monitor drivers. I can't get my 22" to go to it's native resolution of 1680x1050.I have had these installed for a long time and working fine. When I ran a hard disc error check that is listed under tools under properties of my computer it erased my 22" and it's capabilities to operate @ native resolution. Another difference is that before I manually installed the VX2235, it was listed as a 'non plug and play monitor' under device manager. I have never seen that before. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am this close to going out and buying a new XP Pro disc.

I just replaced a 1280x1024 Viewsonic monitor, that had gone bad, with another one (Viewsonic VA708).

Though I've never really been one to pay "hard hard" attention to how things look on a monitor - never felt a problem with anything - something just looks/feels "off" with this one.

This is most noticeable to me on the titles appearing on the browser tabs in Firefox. They just look "wrong" - watery maybe to my eye.

BUT... I have attached a screenshot comparing a blowup of a browser tab from my work computer Dell 1280x1024 monitor (top) and my new Viewsonic monitor (bottom), blown up to 1000 px wide (I cropped), and in the blowup, I can't tell the difference.

So why might I be perceiving things differently with this new monitor?

FWIW, I did update the driver from the Viewsonic site, and I also played with both the monitor's and the control panel's display adjustments.

I have a Viewsonic VA721 monitor that I was using up until earlier today when the monitor started acting like a scrambled cable tv channel when turned on.

I was wondering if anyone might happen to know as to what might cause that, what the technical term for it might be and as to whether or not it can be fixed.

Up until today I have never had any problems with the monitor. Every time I would walk away from the computer for a while I would shut the monitor off so that I could avoid any burn in problems with it thereby preserving the life of the monitor. Because of that I have never had any problems with it until today and at the moment I do not know what could be causing the problem.

I tried the monitor on two different computers with two different cables and got the same result. I bought the monitor in 2006 brand new and up until today it has served me faithfully without any problems.

I don't know if it can be fixed or even if it is worth it nor do I know if it is something that I can fix myself or if I would have to have someone else fix it.

What I do know is if there is anything that I can do to fix the problem myself and restore it to active service then I might choose to give it a try.

Until I have more answers though I cannot make an informed decision about any of it and that is why I am asking.

I am hoping that there will be someone here that will know about such things and can give me some straight advice and information about the monitor and the pro... Read more

Just upgraded to Win7 64bit. My trusty old monitor has no sound (the picture is fine) I found a driver for a generic Viewsonic x64 driver, http://www.viewsonic.com/support/dow...d_Win7_x64.zip but that didn't solve the problem. I read a suggestion somewhere to uninstall the driver and let Windows find it. That didn't solve the problem either. I tested the monitor with my old (XP) system, in case the monitor developed a sudden fault, but there is still sound when I plug it back in there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really don't fancy having to buy a new monitor too, after having had to replace my printer and scanner

A:Viewsonic vx2235wm-1 Monitor has no sound.

What does the monitor require? Older monitors, that use VGA or DVI usually have a Jack to connect from the PC's Speaker out (GREEN) to the monitor for sound. No driver is required for that. There is no audio in a VGA or DVI connection, just video.

Hello guys,

So one night when I left my computer on, i wake up at 3AM on a rainy night and i notice my entire room flashing (like from a tv in dark room). I thought I was having a rolling blackout, but as I got to my senses I noticed that my monitor was the only thing turning off and on. I turned it off, and went to sleep. The next morning I went to go turn on my computer and the monitor does the same thing. It turns off...on...off...on...off...CONSTANTLY (about a one to two second delay between each) until I turn the monitor off. The LED light is green. It goes from green, to off, to green, etc. I've had no prior problems with this monitor.

I tried switching out the power cord and plugging it into my wall (not connected to my video card, or anything)...no luck. It's definately the monitor. I don't know if it's dead or repairable or what. I often leave the computer on over night but i have a 10 minute screensaver and my monitor goes on standby after 20 minutes. When i fell asleep, my monitor was on standby (yellow LED). When I woke up it was the green turning on and off. Doesn't make much sense.

I don't have a replacement...so my situation is pretty bleek atm.

I have a Viewsonic LCD VX924 3ms that i bought around the holidays of 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My monitor seems to be experiencing some kind of problem.

The best way I can describe it is as a 'widescreen' mode. There is a black bar on the top and bottom of the desktop about 1 inch wide and extending across the entire length of the screen. I cannot move the mouse into this portion of the screen.

When adjusting the horizontal and vertical settings, 100% stops with the 1 inch black bars still in place. I cannot seem to make the desktop fit the screen. It seems to have shifted into some other mode of viewing.

I called Viewsonic tech support, but they didn't really know much else to do besides checking my settings. I am at 1024 x 768 resoloution, Radeon 8500 64MB graphics card, Windows XP and have installed the most recent drivers. Even when booting - the black bars are present, as if the monitor has somehow decided that is the mode it wants to be in.

If anyone has come across something like this before or knows how I might be able to fix it, I'd be MUCH obliged!

Regards,

Jeff.

A:Viewsonic Monitor E771 Problem.

Might be starting to fail, 3 year warranty on those generally check the date on the back. Absolute easiest think to do would be to try it on another computer. On the other computer see if you square up the image with the screen if you can't then its the monitor, if you can it could be the video card.

Hi Guys, I have no idea whats going on over at Viewsonic, however their support service is lacking some serious SUPPORT!!! Just the other day, I re-installed Vista 64 and had been happily using a x64 monitor driver for my VX2025WM, just before the re-install I decided to trall the net for latest drivers and deleted any old ones I had (stupid I know). Anyway on re-install with the latest unsigned driver - Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned_Windows_x64 - Dated 04/10/2007, it is now telling me it cannot find my monitor. I've also tried the latest signed driver and this is not working either. I have tried a manual install from C:\Viewsonic and funny enough the monitor isn't even listed. I've asked Viewsonic for help with them replying asking me to download the latest unsigned driver (what the???) All I need is a copy of the previous unsigned driver to this one listed and I know 101% it will find my monitor and work, does anyone have it or know where I can find archived drivers, as Viewsonic have not responded to this request. Please help! Cheers in advance.

I'm stuck between these 3 monitors. The HP 27xi AOC i2757fh or the Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED 27

They all look similar, but I'm just not sure which one to get. I'm leaning toward the HP 27xi though, but this site rated the AOC i2757fh a little higher over the HP 27xi. I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys.

My main usage is playing games like BF3/BF4, SWTOR and Titanfall when it comes out. I also do a lot of web surfing and occasional movie watcher on this monitor. My current monitor is a 24 inch Asus VW246H and I like it, but I don't love it. So my main concern is how well it displays games. I don't want any ghosting and the least amount of input lag I can find. Now, I know the AOC boasts a slightly quicker response time of 5ms vs the HP's 7 seconds, but the reviews I've read thus far state there is no visual lag from the HP. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

I have a viewsonic UltraBright A90f+ monitor and an ATI radeon 9600XT bravo video card. While playing some games my computer will hang and I believe use VPU recovery program supplied with the VC and then return to the game. After about 3 times the monitor goes black and "Viewmonitor" pops on the screen with 2 values 18.9 & 23.6 (normal values a lot higher)and the status is OVER at the bottom.It also says User Mode 14? I then have to restart the machine. Also I have noticed that sometimes when I exit a game my screen resolution has changed to that of the game I was playing. I have all the latest driver for Monitor and Video card. I have and ABIT MB using RAID set up and it also has its BIO's and drivers updated. I run windows XP also with 512M corsair ram.

Any help is appreciated

Thx E West

A:Viewsonic monitor locks up computer

Doesn't sound like the monitor is involved in the problem. A quick swap to another monitor to just be sure.

Does it only occur on one particular game? Anything running hot? How tight is the power supply sized?

I have recently changed my hard drive and had to reinstall all the programs on my computer. Since doing so, the Viewsonic monitor has been stuck in troubleshooting mode. All the fonts and windows are very large, and the only resolution available is 680 x 460, with the only colour option at 16 colours.

What do I do to get a better resolution with this monitor. It worked fine until the hard drive was changed.

I have downloaded the driver for the monitor from the net which was unsuccessful.

I tried changing the adapter from standard to SVGA as recommended by windows, which was rejected by the computer and I had to change it back.

Windows is not accepting the driver that I downloaded.

Never mind, as quick as the problem began, it's resolved itself for some reason. Post can be deleted.

I'm having a bit of a strange issue with my ViewSonic VX2258 monitor.
Out of nowhere, the screen started to flicker (not the sort of flickering you might expect from a loose cable, but literally going completely off and back on) every few seconds. Eventually the screen did not come back on at all.
Thinking there was a loose cable, I tried tightening them but to no avail. The light on the monitor is still blue showing that it is detecting an input and Windows still detects that the monitor is plugged in.
When I turn the monitor off and on, I can see the ViewSonic logo, but oddly enough after that it is a black screen and I am unable to get any system menus to appear (the ones that are generated by the monitor itself, not the PC) or change the source. I would have thought that because of this, there is something wrong with the display but that doesn't seem to be the case considering I can see the logo upon starting the monitor. (Perhaps something to do with firmware?)
I don't think that it is a problem with my GPU as my secondary monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster) still seems to be functioning perfectly but just in case, it is a Powercolor Radeon R9 290X and my drivers are all up to date.
Thanks for the help!

I need help in making my mind up between the gorgeous Lg 1981Q and the attractive Viewsonic Vx924.

I have recently upgraded my desktop and am thinking about shifting to dual screen, mainly for video and web editing (with a little bit of gaming on the side) and need help in picking out new monitor.

one of my problems is that the looks of the tft is very important to me, cos i cant look at something ugly all the time, i would like a tft which is slim and very sexy (just how i like my women )

If anybody owns either of these screens i would really appreciate their feedback, on how good the monitor is and if they would recommend it.

Thanks

Chewbacca.

P.s is there really that much noticable difference between 4 and 8 ms, and if so is it going to be noticable when video editing and gaming.

Title says it all really, just put a scratch in my 3 week old monitor , mildly annoyed about it and wondering whether theres any way to make it go away. When I run my finger over it it dusn't feel like a scratch, but with the monitor off, or showing a bright white screen its quite evident, and running fingernail over it i can tell its an indentation. Against bright white it looks almost like the effect seen if theres water on your monitor (rainbowy), if that helps at all. Basically i'd just like to be not able to see it, and was wondering if you had any suggestions?

Just performed windows update on my Dell Inspiron Desktop 560MT - Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. I have been using dual monitors on the system since purchase. After performing windows update today my second monitor (connected by HDMI) will no longer display. The other monitor (the working one) is connected via VGA. The system does not recognize it is even connected. At start up however it will display up until login window. I am using two ViewSonic VX2453 Series monitors. I am desperate as I have to have both monitors for work. I have tried unplugging and replugging, restarting it with it unplugged and plugged. I uninstalled the update and have tried autodetect on the system all to no avail. Help!!

KChristians, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sounds like you have WU set to automatically download and install updates, and it updated either the video or monitor driver. If that is what happened check your update history and you can uninstall it from there and should get you back to the previous drive.

Also if that s what it was you might want to set WU to not download and install drivers automatically, step #4 here,

hi all - ive got a problem with my new viewsonic vx2753mh-led monitor. its got 2x hdmi inputs and one vga.

the vga works straight off the bat, but whenever I try and plug the hdmi in it just says no input signal detected and goes black

I noticed in device manager that this was installed as 'generic non-pnp monitor' so after jumping through some hoops i managed to install the driver as 'viewsonic vx2753 SERIES'
Anyway this doesnt seem to have made a difference. still no input through the hdmi.

I have tested to cord on my samsung tv and it worked fine so it can't be a problem with the cord or the graphics card....

just some general info that might be of use:
windows 7 x64
dual monitor setup

the graphics is integrated on the intel i5 chip
my display adapters in device manager says Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
it has a dvi out, hdmi out, and vga out.

thanks for any help you can give!

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor not recognizing HDMI input signal.

I have a Viewsonic which I'm also trying to run a media PC to connected via an HDMI cable, and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It was working fine for awhile, but recently I have been receiving an error on screen saying the "HDMI to DVI cable as experienced an error" or something to that effect. Note: I am using strictly an HDMI cable, not an HDMI to DVI as the message states (can't explain why I'm getting that message). I did the same thing you did, tested the machine using the same cable on another tv, and it worked fine on the other tv. What's strange is I can connect the cable box to the tv using the identical HDMI cable and it worked fine. Tried again using the same cable from the PC to the tv, and either 1) blank screen, or 2) shrunken screen with the aforementioned error which will go blank once I open Media Center.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but it seems to me Viewsonic hasn't made a good product in terms of connecting media PC's, for some reason. Of course, my tv is out of warranty at this point. If you find an answer, keep me posted, I'll do the same.

I have a Viewsonic VT2430 monitor/tv, and a Windows Vista 64, with ATI 4200 graphics chip PC.

Our screen seems to be having a slight problem: the image of the screen is not taking up the entire space provided by the screen.
There is an option that we found: Auto Image Adjust, and I am sure this is the right one, except: it's disabled!

Viewsonic VX2433wm (24inch HD LCD Monitor)

Now here's what I need to know:

My main use of an LCD Monitor will be to:

* Watch Movies (Which should include a DVD & High Definition (HD) Quality Videos).
* Play 3D and Normal Games.
* Movies like Jurassic Park, Speed, Titanic, Action Movies, etc...
* Web browsing, doing back work on PC, Listening to music.

So, this in short will be the purpose of using a new LCD Monitor. So far, I am using CRT Monitor.

Once you have gone through the above link, could you kindly let me know how well would this Viewsonic LCD Monitor fair in terms of my above mentioned usage.

BUT NOW HERE's A TwIsT >>> While looking forward to buy an LCD Monitor, one question that kills my decision of buying it is that What if a Touch Screen LCD Monitor will be made available once Windows 7 releases to users. I'm currently having problems with Intel Integrated Graphics stretching full screen games lengthwise to the width of the monitor. Ideally, I want the game to be scaled to the height of the monitor, and keep the original aspect ratio.

I've found for some of my games, running on compatibility mode and forced 640x480 resolution works, but for the games that need a 1280x960 full screen resolution, it (obviously) doesn't work and I'm forced to play with the screen stretched out.

I've followed guides online that say it fixes it, and it definitely worked on a Windows 8/8.1, but 10 seems to keep stretching it to the monitor width.

not sure if this is a virus or not.

ran a virus program and 2 spyware removers, and still here.

a small, icon sized, black square with a thin green border is on my monitor. It stays on top of everything. If I point to it with my mouse, the mouse pointer changes to the standard hand with index finger pointing, but clicking (double, right or left, etc) has no effect. It is annoying more than anything, as it is always on top. always in same spot, just over 1/2 way across from left to right, and almost 3/4 way up from bottom. when you click on it, it gets the focus away from other programs running. when you click, the border changes temporarily to a pink or purple colour (not sure what it should be called)

Win XP home edition; no sp2, but keep everything else updated. am behind a router which is connected to standard cable modem. various off the shelf software.

any ideas what it is?

A:weird icon sized black square on monitor

Dunno know, did you check the task manager to see what was running, look to see what programs are installed? When did it appear, can you relate it to anything you did????

With XP, you always want to have a back up and restore the system to that condition prior to the problem. Sure beats trying to out guess XP for openers.
My first reaction with any problem in XP, restore the lastest backup, go from there.

Only thing I can think of is that your video settings got changed somehow. Can you put another monitor on your machine, boot up into windows. go to start/settings/control panel/display/settings tab/advanced button/adapter tab/ in the drop down box if refresh rate is set to optimal change it to adapter default, save , shutdown and hook up the other monitor. Long shot, probably won't work

This app I made for fatedquest, but I thought I would share it with everyone.

What it does is it lets you set anything you can run (programs, files, directories, websites, control panel items, etc.) to be ran when you put your mouse at any one of the four corners of the screen. Simple as that.

You can choose to use all four corners, 2 of them, 3 of them, whatever. Each corner has its own text box for the path of the file/program/website/whatever. If you leave the text box blank, it doesn't do anything when you move your mouse to that corner.
Download: Hot Corners.zip
Note: Some virus scanners detect this as a virus. It isn't, but if you are unsure, either ask your fellow peers here about it, or just don't use it.

Crash bug: If you don't put in a completely correct path/address, the app will crash when you move your mouse to that corner. For a little more info, read the documentation in the zip folder.

See here for a temporary solution to using the hot corners to trigger key presses.

Enjoy.

For the last few weeks I've been getting strange pop ups in the lower right hand corner of my browser. For the last few days they have started showing up in the left corner and happening more frequently. Also my browser often redirects me to another site not even related to the link I clicked on. I'm guessing my computer is infected with some type of virus. I ran malwarebytes and removed everything found but it's still happening. Can anyone help me out with this?

A:Pop ups in corners of browser.

"I ran malwarebytes and removed everything found " It would be good to identify what was found.
Malwarebytes usually creates a log, maybe you can extract what was found. If there are trojans or or any infections
You might be infected by non-virus programs but spyware types: I associate sites like MyWebSearch in this category.
Since the issue returns, I would check your startup programs and uncheck anything you don't need at startup
Run Malwarebytes again and report what is found.
If nothing is found, you might be ok at the time, but if/when the issue returns run Malwarebytes again at that time and report what is found

This is my first time using these forums and unfortunately I am not all that computer savy so if you could gently walk me through a fix I would greatly appreciate it .

I read through the preparation guide and ran the DDS.  Hopefully this is what I was suppose to copy and paste.

Hi:

I'm having some major issues with the hot corners part of Windows 8. These things seem to fly out any time my cursor strays to the sides of the screen. I have to find the cursor and click in the main screen to get rid of them. Sometimes it takes more than one click to get rid of this nuisance. The time and frustration loss is mounting.

I've installed classic shell and tried its delete function as well as both of the main ways to get rid of hot corners as provided by various sites. Unfortunately, none of them works. I still get these annoying things jumping out at me every few seconds.

Am hoping someone here has had better luck with this problem and can pass it on. Failing that, I'd like to return to Vista -- actually, this is a brand new computer so it never had Vista. I'd like to use Vista, if there's an option to do that.

Thanks,
Jane

"Hot Corners" is called Expose in Mac OS X. If you'd like to use it on Windows, there are a few programs available that will perform the function(s) you wish to use and possibly more. Here are some links.

From what I've heard and read, Switcher is the best choice, although DExpose2 may be smoother in the transitions. I'd try them all and pick the one you like most.

Just moved back from Mac OS X to Windows after 4 years, can't get out of the habit of using hot corners. It's a handy feature on Mac OS X for flicking between windows, dropping stuff onto and picking stuff off the desktop, activating sleep mode.

Windows 7 has one hot corner on the bottom right, for viewing the desktop, already finding that quite handy but I'm used to that in the top right. Also keep going to the bottom left all the time, which I set on my mac to display all open windows only to find it doesn't do anything!

Does Windows have any in built features that allow you to utilise the other three corners?

Thank you in advance for your help...

Windows 7

Links in webpages (about 25% of the time) will send me to an ad website

About every 15 minutes I get pop up ads in both bottom corners while in a browser
There is an audible sound when they pop up
First there is a larger box on the left with an ad, or a prompt to update java
Then a smaller box pops up on the right, it is green with text that links to something
I always just X out of both of them

Oddly, these seemed to happen when I was on Verizon's site, and the ads are sometimes verizon ads.  I don't know enough about computers to know if this is relevant.

I have tried:

AVG is current and a scan didn't show anything.

Windows is up to date

Malware Bytes - I have run a few scans over the last month.  The first scan had something called BlekkoIC that was quarantined.  The other scans since then haven't turned anything up.

Any ideas?  Thank you again!

I keep seeing pop-ups in the bottom right and left hand corners of my browser. I have Windows 7 and a 64bit operating system. I believe this began happening when I accidentally clicked on a random link/banner. Ran Mcafee but did not find anything. Tried restoring computer to a few weeks ago and it did not remove it either.

I have seen these rounded corner deals on TABLES, that give the table the effect that it is round, and not square. I did some research and have figured out how to accomplish this, but I keep running into a small prob. On the very bottom of this page there is an overlapping (that is the best way I know how to describe it). I have all of my rounded images in place, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the extra white at the bottom. Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this? I must warn you that my site is still in the making and it may not look all that great, none of the links work, it has no content etc. Thanks in advance for any help...

I have an older HP TouchSmart All-In-One touchscreen desktop computer.
Decided to put Windows 8 on it this week because it's supposed to be cool with touch screens.

Question: Why can't I use the hot corners with my finger? Is there a way to make this touchscreen desktop to work like a Win 8 Tablet? I want to use this computer 100% mouse and keyboard free. Basically, I want it to work like a tablet. For example, it's annoying to have to grab the mouse just to open the start menu... Defeats the purpose of Win 8. I'm seriously about to go back to Win 7.

Please help! Thank you

A:Hot corners not working on my touchscreen... Why?

the touch gestures don't use the hot corners. the hot corners are for the mouse.

the touch gestures are all about swipes from the edge of the screen.

a small sample of gestures:
swipe from the right side of the screen to the left: show charms bar and start buttonswipe from the left side of the screen to the right: cycle through your appsswipe from the top edge downward or the bottom edge upward: show the context menu (like right-clicking with a mouse)swipe from left screen edge inward and then back out to show the full list of running apps

here are some longer explanations:

Hi All,

With Delphi, I am using the following in the OnCreate event...

var
..regn: HRGN;
begin
..frmMain.Borderstyle:=bsNone;
..regn:=CreateRoundRectRgn(0,0,ClientWidth,ClientH eight,40,40);
..SetWindowRgn(Handle,regn,True);
end;

It creates a borderless main form with rounded corners. However, my app changes the size of the main form depending on what data is being displayed.

I can't seem to change the Width and Height of the rounded corner form, but it works fine when I use a normal Form.

procedure.TfrmMain.DisplayData(var NewWidth, NewHeight : Integer);
begin
..// Load data here...
..// Load data here...
..NewWidth:=DataWidth;
..NewHeight:=DataHeight;
end;

procedure TfrmMain.SetFormSize;
var
..NewWidth : Integer;
..NewHeight : Integer;

begin
..DisplayData(NewWidth, NewHeight);
..frmMain.ClientWidth:=NewWidth;
..frmMain.ClientHeight:=NewHeight;
end;

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave

Hi!

I keep getting ads in the lower corners of all of my browsers (the ones in Firefox get blocked by Adblock but are visible when I disable it), mostly in the shape of iPhones but regular ads and sometimes videos also appear. At times I also get redirected to other pages when I click any link. I am currently running Windows 7 64 Bit, and I have tried different Spyware software without success.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I'm working on a project in Photoshop 6.0 and I've created the image I want, but it needs to have rounded corners. The marquee tool doesn't have a rounded rectangle. I can jump to Image Ready (which does have a rounded rectangle marquee), but when I draw the rounded rectangle and select the inverse, I can't delete the surrounding area. Does anybody have any idea how I can get Photoshop to let me draw a rounded rectangle and then delete anything that falls outside of that area? I'm thinking I can somehow do it using the shape tool, but I can't quite figure it out. Thanks!

pop ups keep appearing in the bottom corners of my browser (some transparent) and rare link redirects. I also have ran alot of full system scans all which have come up clean.

Another problem, which i now think may be related is that my screen decides to lose signal sometimes. it works if i boot up safe mode and i can usually remedy it by disabling my graphics drivers and reinstalling them. although the problem seems to persist after a bunch of different and updated drivers which makes me believe it my be virus related.

Any help would be great :D

hi gurus,

i've been afflicted with a pop up appearing on either the lower left or right corner (it was happening on both corners...lucky me!) of my browser (ie8 and google chrome). i'm running win7, 64bit. what i've done so far after reading threads with similar issues is:

1) have run malware bytes (found nothing);
2) ran superantispyware and deleted what was found (found 173 ad tracking cookies);
3) ran rogue killer and fixed hosts;
4) rebooted after any process that has required it.

i use ESET smart security (scan found no threats).

after doing the above, i still have some occurance of the pop up, but it is happening less than before i ran the above. any assistance to get rid of the bug i missed would be greatly appreciate...tia.

Has anybody come up with a way to get back to rounded corners on windows (? la Windows 7 and earlier) in Windows 10? They may be appropriate for tiling on a phone's display, but I think the square corners look really unattractive on a large monitor. An is there any way to officially pass this complaint on to Microsoft? I'm sure it will be buried among all the other Windows 10 complaints, but I'd like to give it.

Probably would work with a decent 3rd party W7 theme but. you'd have to patch your system.

Alright here's a good one, monitor less than a year old, I could never load drivers for it because screen would go haywaire, real wavy along the side edges. ok so I've been using the win98se driver, plug and play monitor ones, well now it's doing it even with them. I d/l the latest driver for win98 from Viewsonic, load them and it really goes berzerk, delete them, screen is still unstable. So, I do a print screen while it's doing this thing so I can post it for you folks to look at, and when I paste it into notepad the picture is fine in the file. what I mean is that to the pc the screen is normal, man am I confused. What does this mean???

Viewsonic support sends me to a link that says "no drivers available" and then says to download their Vista 64 package I've been doing since day 1. (been doing this and all suggestions since Nov 2007)

Vista Ult. 64 uses its default non-pnp drivers where I have my 1920x1200 native res. with everything but gaming (the reason for purchasing this monitor). I can't get anything higher than 1600x1200 (in gaming) and well, its fuzzy. Can't use windowed mode, OS drivers stop functioning and reload frequently. I've set the res. in the nVidia panel to 1920x1200, set the game ini file to 1900x1200 but it still will only work at 1600x1200 although the games support the higher resolutions.

Is there anyone here that uses this monitor that has found Vista 64 drivers that work? If not, is there a 28", or even 30, that has Vista 64 drivers that will work at native resolution with any program or game?

I am ready to sail this monitor out the third floor window and buy another if I can't get a solution for fixing this one so need recommendations on other monitors as well.

Thank you

Dwarf I don't see your reply here although I did get an email that you posted.

The following link is to the signed standard Viewsonic monitor driver for Vista 64-bit. This driver should be installed with administrative privileges. For games, you might need to adjust your settings such as anti-aliasing in order to be able to use this resolution. The higher certain settings are, the lower the maximum resolution that is available. This is just a matter of trial and error, bearing in mind that higher resolutions require more working RAM on the graphics card and also a card of sufficient power to yield a decent frame rate at these settings.

I did download those many times each time it was updated by Viewsonic. It goes through the device manager wizard fine and then 'file not found'. However, someone did message and email me their driver folder from the monitor cd and it worked. Apparently my cd was a bad one. So all is well and working. Games are working great with the right resolution now.

My daughter's AOC monitor died, boo hoo, it was 6 years old so it was bound to happen. O.K., I buy a spanking new Optiquest Q75 plug it in, load the drivers and voila, it totally screws up her pc, I mean the screen was distorted like i never seen before in my life. It was like 2 giant magnets were going up and down the sides of the monitor. I brought the monitor up to my pc, it worked fine...those dam drivers screwed up her entire operating system, I could no get them off her pc so I reformatted her HD, 4 hours and many grey hairs later, (I mean if I still had hair that is), she has a new monitor. Imagine me thinking I was just going to plug it in.

I was looking to go from my 22 inch NEC FE2111(too big) to an LCD monitor; However, I can't seem to make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to the Viewsonic VP191B ($449.00 at newegg) or the BenQ FP91G+ ($329.00 at newegg). I've heard nothing but good things about BenQ, and I already know the excellent reputation of Viewsonic. I do alot of gaming so that's an important factor. I know CRT has better visual quality than LCD, but I need to conserve space, so any input on these 2 monitors would be appreciated.

A:Viewsonic or BenQ

We use Viewsonic 17'' at my work & they r ok. Although I have a BENQ at home & I find it way better than the others. I had an LG one b4 & seriously the BENQ not only looks better but was cheaper too! they r owned by Acer or some other joint big organisation & are not crappy at all. others have said that because they haven't heard of them then they must be crap, but you just have to research them b4 judging.

Either r good ... but yeah thats just my opinion :grinthumb

I have a suspected cold solder joint in the power supply of my Viewsonic VP2130b monitor that I could probably locate and fix myself if I could figure out how to get it apart. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 series lap top

The problem I am having is I can't seem to disable the 4 corners on the touch pad mouse. It seems that each corner on the touch pad is enabled with an action. So if your finger slides into a corner then an action like opening or closing a window is activated. I find this extremely annoying cause my finger always seems to slide into that one corner opening or closing the window I am working in.

I tried to disable these corners by going to the Toshiba touch pad settings and selecting 'none' for the tables for each corner, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. If I select different actions for each corner they will change, but if I disable Touch and Launch all together the corners seem to go back to the default actions.. I tried uninstalling the whole Toshiba touch pad program, but it makes no difference... Not sure what is left to try. I'm wondering if there is a registry edit that will disable the corners? Or if there is any other way of disabling the corners before I go absolutely mad.. lol..

Thanks..

A:How to disable Toshiba touch pad corners

I fixed the problem... Seem in the control panel in the mouse settings under devices there were some other settings for the touchpad. There I could disable the corners. I must of looked there a million times for more settings, but kept missing it.. Oh well.... lol..

I only know of two so far - Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome Browser - the top left corner has no icon, but there's a menu if clicked:

It's interesting that Chrome offers you a Task Manager option.

Here is a list of everything I noticed all of which happened at once. I believe I put my computer into sleep mode which i normally don't do and also there was a windows update to defender that I installed that I have already uninstalled to see if it was the issue.

1. My Charms Bar and Switcher Hot Corners don't work out of the blue!

2. I also noticed that I can't drag close windows apps such as the video player or photo viewer or apps store. I have to Alt+F4 to close everything.

3. I can bring up the charms menu by using Win+C, and it does work after that point. Although again I cannot close anything with the Esc key or drag to close.

4.I can click the lower left hot corner to get my desktop or start menu but no small preview window appears and I can only do this if I am currently on my desktop!
For instance:
I am in Google chrome now typing this now with the task bar visible. If I were to put my mouse in the lower left corner of the screen and left click nothing happens. If I go back to my empty desktop then click in the same spot it brings me to my start menu. But again no preview of my start menu. I also haven't seen the hot switcher task bar on the left side of my screen since this all started.

I called Microsoft and they said to refresh windows but that I would lose all my applications I installed since I installed Win8.

A:Charms Bar and Switcher Hot Corners Don't work!

Hello Scolecite, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It sounds like you may have used one of the many tweaks out there to disable hot corners.

You should be able to do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this all started to hopefully undo and fix this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
