R downloaded CDs DVD useable

Q: R downloaded CDs DVD useable

i would like to know if there is a way to have or make downloaded programs/files that are burned to Cds, useable or playable on a DVD player? I recognize that there is a mpeg or codec variable that may apply but i would nonetheless like to find the way to go about solving this dilemma. As a further query, are there DVD players on the market that can perform the above function?

I've noticed a few other threads on these boards dealing with the same issue. But I thought I'd just throw my scenario out there to see if anybody could help...

When I first bought my Dell it came with 2 gigs of ram installed. I recently installed 2 more gigs, thinking that I would max out the 32bit system. Now in my system properties the system shows 4 gigs of ram installed (3 gigs useable).

I have checked the bios as suggested in other threads, and have also checked the msconfig to make sure that no maximum memory amounts were set.

Are there any other suggestions I might try?

Hi People!

I have just built myself a brand new system! It's got a nifty i5 CPU, a brand new Gigabyte motherboard and its got 8GB DDR3 RAM and I've Installed Windows Home Premium 32 bit! It's working perfectly....BUT (there's always a "but' isn't there?)

BUT when you checkout the system properties it tells me this...

Installed RAM : 8.00 GB (3.42 Usable)

How do I make it use all 8.00 GB of the RAM installed? Anyone know?

Hi there, I've done some reading and apparently I need to enable 'memory remap feature' in BIOS, but I cannot see it anywhere in the BIOS.

Please see photos/screeny attached and see if it makes any sense..

8 X 2GB RAM

A:Can see 8gb in BIOS, but only 4 useable

Hi Nolube and welcome to Seven forums. From what I can see from the screen shots of your bios you have 8 GB ram installed. The system is disabling 4g of it as the first screen shot states 4096 Mb as the total ram. 2 of your slots are not enabled. Try removing and reseating the ram (with the power off). Check in the BIOS if there is a setting to enable or disable the second ram channel.

Hi, I was just posting to ask anyone who wishes to comment, what programs they use along with XP to make the experience more enyoyable. Such as widgets or Rocketdock or anything similar. It just seems like XP gets more boring wiht every update to OSX, and I am not willing to pay the money for Vista either.

A:Make XP Useable

You could try out AquaDock, a dock similar to the one in OSX.

Yahoo! Widget Engine for widgets.

You could head over to DeviantArt.com to download themes for XP.

Just a few suggestions.

The 64 bit OS uses more of the available memory than a 32 bit. Thus with whatever else is using memory the 64 bit OS can cause less memory to be available.

With the great help of Shawn, I was able to figure out how to reduce the massive data amounts of the CBS.log to the records of interest - those that the System file checker fixed and could not fix. With that, I have made a little tutorial about the whole process which I thought might be useful for reference:

If you encounter a strange behavior of your system or if the system sends you a message indicating that some system file is damaged, the System File Checker might be able to help. Here is what you do:
Open an elevated Command Prompt (go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt > Run as Administrator).

Type sfc /scannow into the Command Prompt window – note the blank in front of the slash (/). This will run for a while.

When it is done, you can end up with the following different results:

1. SFC did not find any corrupted files

2. SFC did find corrupted files and was able to fix the files

3. SFC was not able to fix all corrupted files

In the cases 2 and 3, SFC stores the results in the CBS.log which you find in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. This is a massive file of approximately 5MB and if you care to see it all, you must send CBS.log to one of your own folders from where you can double click on it. It will then open with Notepad. Note: You cannot open it inside the CBS folder. You will get an Access denied message.

But most likely you are only interested in the part that shows the corrupted files that were ... Read more

A:Make the CBS.log useable

This is good, as far as you went, but now how about an extension of the tutorial as to how to interpet the results?

I know that using "mark" is the customary way of copying the Command Prompt, but I find it less clumsy to click select all, then just click the prompt window and it automatically gets copied.

Okay so I know there are alot of threads on this but literally none of them have helped me resolve my problem. My windows 7 64 bit is showing that I have 6GB of ram (yet only 4gb useable)...

I checked the 'resource monitor' and there is 2 gb reserved for something and I would like to know why and how I can unreserve it. I downloaded a program called CPU-Z and checked that my full 6GB was getting recognised and it is.

I have seen on other forums that one solution would be memory remapping. I then found out that on my Gigabyte X58A-UD3R mobo, there is no memory mapping feature in the BIOS. So now im kinda stuck and dont know what to do, its just really fustrating as I would like to utuilise the full 6GB of ram.

A:Studio XPS 16 2.96 GB Useable RAM

Hi, this is most likely to do with a proportion of your RAM being reserved for use by hardware but there is a chance it could be something else which could be picked up by the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool (Tutorial on how to use this can be found at Memory Diagnostics Tool).

The XP key will not be usable, it will be tied to the new Win7 key.

Only way around that is to get a full version.

Ok i barely purchased this laptop last week and got it on tuesday. Nothing is wrong with this issue of the ram but i am trying to wonder why on a 64-bit version would only use 1.75GB of ram if it needs 2GB (which i have anyways). Is there a way i can max that out and make it use 2GB instead of 1.75GB?

i would really appreciate the help. Thanks

A:2GB Ram Installed (1.75GB Useable) On 64-bit Win7

That's not a shocker but what is a shocker is the 2GB of ram. 4GB is a bare minimum, practically speaking, for 64 bit systems and 8 GB is much more reasonable.

Upgrade your ram capacity and you will be doing yourself a tremendous favor.

Hi, I have used Macrium (free) in the past to back up my C drive and have created a couple of disk images which have in the past successfully restored in the event of a crisis.

Recently my PC started doing a few funny things (sleep results in fan constantly going, occasionally can't awake from sleep but fan still goes etc). I played around with the power settings today and also changed the BIOS setting from Auto to S3 (save to RAM). When I rebooted the "Windows starting" splash screen came on but when it went, just a blank black screen with a mouse pointer (normal size for the resolution I'm using, implying the graphics card was supporting the resolution I normally use). This happened repeatedly and I was unable to get past it to the pale blue login screen by any means. But I can log in as normal if I boot through Safe Mode (and am posting this via Safe Mode with networking).

I restored my operating system disk today using Macrium, then booted up normally. To my dismay, after "Windows starting".....still a black screen with nothing but a mouse pointer that I can move around. Control+alt+del and Windows key + P do nothing. Where have I gone wrong? I'm pretty sure that my other BIOS settings (e.g. AHCI rather than IDE - I'm using an SSD) are unchanged. Thanks for advice.

BTW I am using a desktop system, i7 six core processor, two Nvidia 210 graphics cards, 24GB RAM and Win 7 pro.

A:Please help me - Macrium failed to restore my PC to be useable again!

Update - I have at least discovered the cause of my black screen. I have four high resolution monitors, let's call them 1, 2, 3 and 4, though I only use 2 3 and 4 for running certain software otherwise they are switched off. They are set such that monitor 1 is the one with my login screen. When I booted into Safe Mode monitor 1 was the one with the login, when I was booting into normal mode monitor 3 was the one that had the login screen, I only found that out when I switched on all three other monitors.

Here's the catch though. Instead of 1920x1080, monitor 3 is now displaying only 1024x768 and the Windows Display options lists it only as a Generic non-PnP monitor (it's connected via DVI so it jolly well should be recognised as the exact monitor type that it is). I can't get it to display anything more than low resolution 1024x768 now however, despite effectively having a new Windows installation (well, backed up version with drivers that it worked at high resolution previously).

What's gone wrong?

Hoping someone can help here.... running Beta 7000 on a Quadcore Q9450 with 4GB of RAM. The DVD drive is a Pioneer DVR-215 but Windows 7 will not show it in Explorer and I can't access it at all. Device manager shows the yellow warning and says this:
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"
I've tried uninstalling the driver and letting W7 reinstall it but it always installs the same one and says it's running the correct driver ? yet it still won't let me use the drive.... anyone got any idea what I need to do to fix this?

My computer is running very slow. It takes about 30-35 Minutes to operate normally. Windows boots quickly, and I see my desktop, but if I try to open anything, it takes about 35 minutes to open. Then everything works fine. It seems to be explorer related. The taskbar disappears a lot in the process or trying to open things. I recently installed IE7 too, could also be part of the problem!

Hi there,

Bit worried I've messed up my PC here :s My system: I've got 2 partitions, C drive being for the OS and D drive having my programs installed. I reinstalled Windows over the top the C drive with the impression that everything on my C drive would be wiped and replaced with the new system, and all the stuff on the D drive would be untouched (i.e. music, documents and program install files).

The other day I upgraded from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows 7 however now on the Add/Remove programs list no progams appear, yet I can still use some of them. For example I can use Steam by running the .exe in the install folder but doesn't appear on Add/Remove, and for example Itunes doesn't work at all using the same idea.

Basically, have I screwed up my PC and the partitions from upgrading, a bad install or should I just reinstall all the programs from scratch?

If required, here are my system specs:

System Information
------------------
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)

I just received a Lenovo 160GB warranty replacement drive, installed the drive and restored my most current Acronis image. The drive that was replaced was 100GB, thus the restored Acronis image was ~96GB C drive.

The attached Acronis Disk Director screen shot shows the difference between the restored C area versus the available drive space as unallocated.

From previous conversations on the forum I have a boot CD burned with Magic Partition Manager (not used thus far).

Before I boot the computer with the MPM CD would someone give me a bit of reassurance that there will be a clear MPM option to convert the currently unallocated space to allocated and then either merge the two spaces or have the currently active space increase in size subsuming that space which is currently unallocated?

Thanks,

Mark

A:Change Unallocated to useable space

mark, are you able to successfully boot into windows? maybe reboot a couple of times to check? If yes, you can definitely format the unallocated space to create a new partition or extend the existing C: partition to use that space. Just remember you have some unallocated space to the left of C: as well - to extend C: into that you'll need a 3rd party partition manager (windows cant do it natively). I don't know about MPM but if that doesn't work you can always use Partition wizard.

I just bought a Seagate ST3120026A Hard Drive and Iím having a problem with it. Itís a 120 GB hard drive so I partitioned it into 2 partitions, one for my OS and one for the other stuff. Well, I formatted it using the Seagate DiscWizard for Windows (I have another hard drive Iím using right now). I used my Windows XP SP2 CD to install setup files to the first partition but then that partition wouldnít boot. I tried installing it to the other partition, same thing, it wouldnít boot. Then I tried not partioning the drive at all. I installed Windows again, the hard drive would still not boot. I also tried formatting and partitioning the drive using the DiscWizard for DOS version. I even used the utility in DiscWizard that letís you copy one hard drive to the other. I used the hard drive that Iím using now and copied it to the Seagate Drive and guess what, still wouldnít boot. I updated my BIOS to the latest version thinking that might matter, still no luck.

My relevant Specs are:
Windows XP
Asus A7N8X BIOS Rev 1010
Seagate ST3120026A 120GB HDD
My other Hard drive is a Maxtor

Itís working great as a Slave drive but I bought it to boot from it. Am I missing something simple or do I have a bum drive? Any help would be wonderful.

Hi there
One thing I'm finding GREAT on the latest build (x-64 build 9369) is the little button at the bottom of the START screen.

Forget the stupid metro tiles etc -- just click the button and it lists ALL the apps and then you can optionally have these sorted by Install date or Most used.

This in some situations obviates any need for going directly to the desktop -- you can just click on your desired application and run it. - This would suggest to me that the Desktop as a separate application is destined for the Bin sooner rather than later.

I would perhaps like a little more selections in the APP sort screen but if you don't have gazillions of apps it's actually quite useable.

Here's what I mean -- two screenshots enc.

And of course the search window is open if you want to type a specific thing -- say W* for example if you can't quickly see Ms Word for example.

If Ms keep on a bit with this it *might* just possibly morph into something quite useable.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi there I have a HP Pavilion 15 p239sa laptop, bought last year with Windows 10 pre-installed Ive never needed to use the built-in SD card reader until yesterday, and its not working. The computer plays the 'new thing connected' noise when I insert an SD card, but it doenst appear as a drive in This PC, and it doesnt appear in Disk Management. In Device Manager, Ive updated  the Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller. No joy Ive tried installing various versions of the Realtek driver, including the one from the HP website. No joy. Ive tried different SD cards - sometimes it plays the 'new thing connected' sound but the disk doesnt appear, sometimes it does nothing at all. Its basically like the Card Reader doesnt exist. according to my laptop. What do I do now? A friend has a file using the .group extension. When she opens it, Windows Contacts comes up and she can scroll through the contacts. However, there is no way to export it to csv or any other file format. I have a copy of the file, and I'm trying to get it into Outlook 2007. So far, nothing can read it. If I open the document in notepad, I can see the following meta data leading me to believe it may have been a .WAB file or some outlook express extension. However, changing the extension to .WAB is not successful during import either. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I got a new cpu intel core i7-870 for computer. I also replaced the heat sink, Anyhow now my computer still acknowledges the 8gb but says only 4gb is usable. In order to add new heatsink i took my pc apart and reattached the graphics and ram and everything else back to MOBO (yes correctly). The 4 of 8 issue was happening before i took everything apart to install new heatsink. Everything worked fine with my old processor an i3 when running my 64bitOS. Below is a list of things I have tried! Am I missing anything else?
The Problem
Hardware Reserved
Both Slots RAM are working
What I Have Tried

1. Removed and restarted the i7 processor. (Several Times)
2. Removed and swapped around RAM sticks. Both work fine in either port. Even tried booting with 1 at a time
3. Tried the Msconfig Max Mem trick with Adv setting. Made my pc BSOD and i had to fix it in Safe Mode
4. Have updated bios and VGA drivers from the Bio star website.
5. I ran RAMmap, but i still can't figure out how to read the program very well and figure out where my other 4gb are being allocated too.
6. I tied turning on/off memory remapping. Turning it off made it worse only had 3.2 after that.
7. Took Batt outta mobo and even did cmos jumper reset. Neither fixed it!

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciative. Thank you!!

Specs:

hello, i am hoping someone can help me because i may have lost 200+ GB's of music, pictures, and personal files.

i restarted my computer a couple days ago and it went into this diagnostic screen where it recommended that i do some sort of file check on my external hard drive (western digital my book 500gb 7200 RPM USB 2.0)...so I did and i watched as it scrolled through all of the folders and it would say something like this as it scrolled down:

FOLDER CHECK INCOMPLETE
CHANGE FOLDER TO FILE (Y/N): YES

FOLDER CHECK INCOMPLETE
CHANGE FOLDER TO FILE (Y/N): YES

FOLDER CHECK INCOMPLETE
CHANGE FOLDER TO FILE (Y/N): YES

FOLDER CHECK INCOMPLETE
CHANGE FOLDER TO FILE (Y/N): YES

now granted, this is not exactly what it said, but something to this effect. i was not cholosing yes when it asked me to check y or n...it was just doing it on its own. then when i went to go into my external hard drive folders once my computer started some of them had an blank looking icon instead of the folder icon (shown in picture 1 below)...and windows was not able to open the file as it had no extension. all of these files are 32kb in size. also, some of the folders that i was able to open contained folders with what looked like Chinese writing and symbols (just crazy undecipherable text) as the names of these folders.

i tried to run chkdsk for windows and it told me that some items were fixed, but it didn't recover the data. please tell me my data is not lost. i thought i would try you ... Read more

A:Lost Data - Folders turned into 32 kb un-useable file

You might wish to install PhotoRec onto your computer and have it check out your external drive.

PhotoRec: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

I've never used PhotoRec personally but I've heard it is great.

Also, when you are doing data recovery tasks such as this, do not modify anything on the hard drive!!! That means avoid writing to it at all costs. If PhotoRec can find what seems to be all of your files, then that should be fine.

Hello there,

A little desperate at this point after trying some things and looking on the internet for answers, I decided to sign up to your forum. I couldn't find another example of this exact problem either, by the way.

So... my bios (on my Gigabyte x38-dq6 board) detects my Samsung 183L burner on the POST screen however, it just stalls when I set the bios to boot from CD-ROM. If I go through to Windows Vista, it detects the drive, installs the proper drivers and Nero DriveInfo can read all the attributes fine but when I put in a disk and click "open", it ejects and asks me to insert a disk!

Theres not much more to say. It just started doing this after I changed the location of some hard disks in my box (which shouldn't have changed anything).
I'm about to unplug all of my drives apart from the DVD and see how that goes.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

A:A very bizzare problem with my Samsung DVD-Rom not able to boot disks nor is useable

Also, I forgot to mention: I took my old IDE burner from my old machine and hooked it up (the Samsung is SATA). Believe it or not, it gave me the same problem! Is it a problem with my motherboard ? I highly doubt it's a setting in my bios since i've played with just about all of them.

I have a customer that brought in a DVD-RW and said it wont play in his DVD player but it will play in others. His DVD player DOES support DVD-RW discs. Anyway I am going to burn it on a DVD-R for him. I copied the disc to my hard drive and noticed the video was in the “VRO” format. The video file is listed as a “VRO file”. What is a VRF file and more importantly how do I convert it into a file that can be played in a normal DVD player? I have the latest version of Nero. I choose “make a DVD video” in the projects category and I imported the file. It shows every chapter in the file and it pictures of the video at the beginning of the file. But when I play the file through the video viewing program in Nero, I get no video. But if I play it in Windows Media Player, it plays fine.Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I wondered if a re-writeable CD could be used for a music CD to be used in my car. I accidentally recorded a bunch of music to a RW CD like I would on a regular CD for use in the car. It wouldn't work. It plays on the computer and (I think) a DVD player but not a "regular" CD player.

Is there some way to record using a RW CD that will allow it to play in a "regular" CD player or is this not going to happen?

Thanks for any help,

Been looking around web for program I can type in that will calculate how much an object would weigh at impact with a stationary object. Like

Weight (in Pounds) = 400
Speed at impact = 40 Miles/Hr.
Time to come to full stop = .4 seconds

What would the impact weight of the object be then?

Any ideas where I can find a QuickBasic 4.50 program to do this?

A:Looking for a "Momentum" prog. useable in QuickBasic 4.5

You may not even need a sample program.

What you are after is related to Newton's Second Law. Something like as explained in this Website. Depending on how fancy you wish to get. I would think the biggest wrinkle would be in how much rebound or energy not converted in a direct hit. Nothing to writing a simple program, if you assume the collision converts all the energy.

Newton's second law

http://www.perry-lake.k12.oh.us/phs...physics/tutorials/mechanics/newton/second.htm

Or in its simple form:

In the form of F = MA

http://www.perry-lake.k12.oh.us/phs...t/physics/tutorials/mechanics/newton/ex2a.htm

But if you also want to do some Web Crawling to see what others have done. Here are a bunch of sources. I have seen lots of programs that do exactly what you want. Might want to search under subjects like physics, Newton, scientific, conversion, etc.

This site is a good place to start. You got to pound around and find the BASIC section. The smaller programs tend not to be zipped and you can just open them and see if it is what you want.

http://www.codeproject.com/

This is a monster BASIC source. The only problem is you generally need their reader and everything is zipped.

http://www.allbasiccode.com/

Channel 1 is the creme decreme for most older programs, including lots of BASIC code. The only problem, they have changed the format and searching the database can be tedious.

A super nice source for BASIC. Well edited and organized. ... Read more

Hi there
installed W7 Enterprise on a netbook equipped with 4GB RAM. Before installing ANY updates / drivers etc I noticed that on W7 X-64 the computer showed 3.75GB of Ram was useable. On the X-86 version at the same stage of installation it showed that 2.75 GB of Ram was useable.

Any Gurus out there -- why is x-86 saying to me it has less memory over than the X-64 system -- computer hasn't changed in the slightest -- this was immediately after install and before any hardware specific drivers etc were installed.

Hi all

I just received a new laptop (Dell Latitude 6500) and it's got a 1900x1200 resolution display... I've been experimenting with increasing font sizes and have been successful in many ways...

What I'm still having some trouble with is standard windows fonts... by this, I mean - the font size used in Outlook Address Book, Outlook To/Subject/etc fields of a message, the 'Run' window, etc...

Is there anyway to adjust these sizes?

Many thanks for any help!

32bit will only see 4gigs of ram and usually only be able to use abt 3.3 its also a bit slower depending on how you use it. when changing from one OS format (32bit) to another (64bit) it has to be a clean install.

Now about restoring you may have a backup there and available but since you are 32 bit and it isnt you cant use it. If you were to reinstall vista 64 it probably be available

okay, as the title implies, while surfing the internet a tab appeared in the firefox window that said "Updating..." but never showed/displayed anything. After that, I noticed the windows start/tool bar had changed from the XP theme version to the classic version. Then i noticed that there was no network connectivity. When I tried to look up what was wrong, the properties, rename, and delete options have been disabled from the right-click menu.
I received a message that there was attempt to update registry but whatever was done was restored, then my PC reboot.
what I've done so far:
I tried to boot using the windows xp CD but nothing happens. Windows eventually boots up, but I don't get any options to run repair or anything.
Used CA anti-virus for scan and found nothing (did this again in safe mode and still found nothing)
I did a search to see if I could find what was modified, it shows that all user accounts including a Helpassist?? account have been updated in some form or fashion so i don't know what else to do

I see svchost.exe, services.exe, and system taking up 50% of CPU occasionally but not sure what to make of that.

to get the internet started I tried to turn on some network services but all failed due to 'timeout'

Please let me know any ideas, or how to get started on trying to fix this problem.

thanks,

Hello. I downloaded the new sp3 update yesterday and followed all the instructions and i was ready to restart my computer. When i did, everything went fine until after the loading screen it gave me a blue error screen. Since i needed the computer in working order, I used a pc recovery tool (pressed F10 when it started up) and did a non-destructive recovery which took about 20 minutes. Then after that was done i had to restart and do the windows first start up thing. Then i finally finished and saw that all of my custom features and files were no where to be found! All my applications and games that i downloaded are still in shape, but all of the custom features (like background, WMP playlists, Updates) were all gone. so is there any whay which i can restore my old settings? I need to have all my original settings as soon as i can please .

Thanks

A:I really need help, downloaded SP3...

Hi cloud366, it sounds like you have done a repair install. When you pressed F10, did you choose Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu?

Also, check in C:\Documents and Settings for a duplicate profile. It could be that your original profile has corrupted and Windows built you a new one.

All those type of "custom features" live in your local profile.

Hello

I have setup every application to "ask me before checking for updates",

Even when I am not using any brower, email or any opther application, I notice that my lights on my modem are blinking quite fast... that is something is being downloded. It has been going on for quite sometime.

How do I find out what is being downloded (or uploaded)?

I use
toshiba laptop
window 7 prof
IE9
MS office 2010
Internet secuirity (antivirus, etc ...) from Bell
Thank you very much

A:How do I know what is being downloaded?

And you have no browser open? And check for new email only infrequently?

You could try disconnecting from the modem and see if any program complains.

In Network Connections right click on your connection and select Status. Watch the Bytes sent and received to get an idea of the upload vs download and how much.

alright so i would say i am pretty computer literate at least for 16 you put me in my whole high school i would pry be second best, here is my HJT file i cant find nothing but i can tell you my problem the quick launch bar is messed up i open it an nothing is there it opens but just lines come and regedit says its in use by another program and task manager wont open

View attachment 32453

A:Downloaded something bad help please

Clear these three items in HJT and rescan:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3745D43B-4A84-485D-8EE9-BC6D0401DBF6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtUkIBqR.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: byXRkIYS - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\byXRkIYS.dll

If they are still present, then download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and while you are there grab the RogueRemoverFree as well. FileASSASSIN is under More Tools in Anti-Malware, and can actually delete the files while in use. Run that if the files wont delete or keep showing up in HJT. Make sure you update MalwareBytes before you do a full scan

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer I don't see any malware there. Some points:Do you have a bought license for Norton? Or did you get it for free? The reason I'm asking is, it's a really heavy app for an antivirus. You can install a better antivirus that's waaaay lighter and easier for the computer, and takes less ram and actually is more efficient too.So, I recommend uninstalling Symantec's products and installing AntiVir (That's the promotion license for AntiVir Premium -- 6 months for free. You can get their free edition here) or Avast! instead.Another valid point: when did you install Service Pack 3? There has been several flaws with it.. Some people have really bad problems with SP3, I seem to be one of the lucky ones with no issues. Did you notice the problems after installing it?Also have a read through THIS TOPIC.Finally.....Click Start >> Run and paste in:"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daftClick OK.Click OK to the prompt from Deckard's System Scanner.Click Scan.Checkmark every entry found.Click Fix.Let me know how you get on.

checkin to see if anyone responded----------------------Hello shadnottus,While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, you wouldn't want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it, would you?We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further repl... Can I ask a really stupid question?
It's about locating downloaded files. Not the ones where I select save and then select a folder but the ones which don't offer that. For example right now Java is downloading but the files are not going where the existing Java files are (C:/Program Files/Java).
My question: how can I find out where files have downloaded to?

A:Where is that downloaded file?

If you know the name of the file, even partial name. You can do a Search. If you only know the extension, for Java it is .jar or .idx, you can search using a wild card (search: *.jar) Java files are stored under C:\Documents and Settings\yourprofilename under .java, .javaws or jpl_cahce folders. Be sure you are showing Hidden Files and Folders.

Hello

I downloaded a program that was marked safe by Norton. However it downloaded some malware with it and changed my home page to delta search, as well as blank tabs to delta search. The computer program processing and internet speed has slowed down so I suspect more programs (malware/viruses) have been downloaded. Also, five programs were downloaded - Browser Protect, Delta Chrome Toolbar, Delta Toolbar, Gorilla Price, Yontoo 2.51. Additionally a window that won't go away keeps coming up with "BrowserProtect.exe has stopped working". Finally, the above five programs are running processes - when closed in Task Manager (windows vista) they come back - hence I think they are malware.

I was cautious about just deleting the programs installed listed above as I've had damage done to my computer previously when this happened about a year ago. Additionally I don't know how to stop the message above reappearing. Also, as mentioned, I think I have additionally (undetected) malware downloaded.

I've run a Norton Scan but it has only detected tracking cookies and deleted these. Nothing else is detected, and the latest virus etc. definitions were downloaded prior to starting the scan.

I've added the logs requested in the "read this before posting" file as attachments as the previous post I attempted was deemed too long (i.e. over 300000 characters". Sorry - I hope this is ok, otherwise I can re-post them individually.

Hi. I have a mustek scanner to which I have had to download the software for (reformatted pc and now the original installation cd will not run as kids damaged it, BLESS).
This download is in five parts all of which I have downloaded into my own created 'downloads' folder on c: (they obviously are now 5 different files in this folder).
On the website I downloaded them from it stated 'download all 5 files from web onto pc's hard disc under same directory'. I did not do this as I didn't know what it meant ( thought I would play and work it out but I'm just too stupid).
When I click on first file it starts and then asks me to insert next disc because they are not in this said directory, all being separate.
Can I now make/find or whatever this directory and move them into it and how or must I first make/find this directory and and download them again directly into this directory and how?
Please be gentle with explaination/terminology as as you have prob' gathered my pc skills are more than limited!!
Your help gratefully recieved, Steve.

A:Downloaded driver

Hi Steve1ramsey,
First of all, there is nothing such as "too stupid".
I would rather say that we all start somewhere.

If you remeber the name of the folder you created and put the different files in you only need to change the last part of the path.

Eg. You copy the 5 files in different folder, let's call them "Folder 1", "Folder 2", "Folder 3" etc.
Then you start the Setup from Folder 1.
Later it asks you for disk 2.
You can see the whole path to the Setup, like C:\driversfolder\Folder 1\
You just change "Folder 1" to "Folder 2" and then press OK.

That should do it. In other feel free to ask again
Good luck!

Hi ..I have got some unique problem I would say. I have recently got a broadband connection. It's working perfect with everything apart from downloading software.I can download music, video, software(does not install). After the downloading the software when I try to install the softwares ,it sometime says corrupt file, some times says cannot extract or sometimes gives NSIS error. But When I use my laptop in my university network it works perfect with any software installation which I download. I tried the all way to make my service provider understand that there is no problem with my laptop as it's working prefect in other networks but they don't want to trust me. What to do. It will be highly appreciable to me if you could find out way.I am completely hopeless now

Many Thanks

A:Can't set up any software which I downloaded

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I downloaded a virus about a month and 1/2 ago. As soon as I opened the program I got a bsod " irqL_not_not_less_then_or_equal_to" then my laptop turned off. I tried to reformat before I tried to get rid of the virus. It did not work I had to restore using system Image. Obvious now that was the wrong thing to do. Well It got rid of the bsod's, but now I cannot run any kind of bootdisk because it will turn off about the middle of whatever I'm running. I've tried reformatting with win7 bootdisk, spotmau's bootdisk "Partition wipe, disk wipe", killdisk, hitachi disk fitness test disk. I've also ran scanners ; AVG anti-virus, Avira antivirus(which was what I was running and also scanned the program before opening it with avira.), Gmer, Sophos anti-rootkit, kaspersky anti virus scanner, mbr check, tdss killer, etc..... hah....just about everything I could download... And found nothing. So I've still got something screwing me up but none of these programs can find it... Possibly buried it after trying to format and using sytem image. Since it wont let me do anything with the boot disks is that in Would it be coming from MBR? Any help is very appriciated.

A:Downloaded virus, and I've tried everything to get rid of it.

Hi,

That does sound MBR related. You need to try and scan prior to Windows loadup. To do that please follow these steps:

1. Download and burn the F-Secure ISO file to a CD using something like IMGBURN.
2. Turn on your PC, then enter the BIOS before it has a chance to load the Windows OS.
3. In the BIOS, make sure the CD/DVD drive is first in the boot sequence.
4. Insert the F-Secure bootable CD into the CD/DVD drive, and boot the PC.

The PC will now boot using Linux. F-Secure will then update its anti-malware database (ensure you leave your ethernet cable plugged into your router/modem). Follow the prompts to do a scan of your system - it may take quite some time.

Make a note of the malware that it finds, and post the names here as we may need to do some additional work depending on what it finds.

Note that if some critical system files are infected, F-Secure deletes them, and your system may not be bootable. In this case, you will need to do a clean Windows install, preferable after a secure wipe of the hard disk. Make sure any critical data is backed before scanning.

Regards,
Golden

A few days ago I accidently downloaded a virus. I clicked on the download button, instead of the download link. The download button was a virus, when I opened the file, it proceeded to download many unwanted programs to my computer. Some of the symptoms my computer is having are:
-File keeps popping up on my desktop named, "Continue Live Installation"
-That same file opens on its on several times while im on the computer. I Close It and do not continue with the installation
-Almost everything I click on makes ads pop up in new windows.
-Their are ads all over websites that would normally not have ads (ex. Youtube, facebook)
-Computer is generally slower
Those are my problems. Things I have done so far are:
-Immediately uninstalled unwanted programs via control panel
-Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and got rid of anything it found
-Ran RKill and JRT
-Ran Hitman Pro and got rid of anything it found

After this I am still having all the problems listed above. I hope someone can help me out please!!! This is a work computer and I haven't been able to do any work all week .

whenever i download anything from the internet and when i open it .it says me to accept.i accept.then a shield like symbol appears on the task bar and when i click it its gone.plz help

A:cant open anything that is downloaded

Koushal,

I'm afraid that isn't very clear which is probably why you did not receive an answer. But it sounds like one of two things is possibly happening... either the file you have downloaded and are trying to open is being blocked by your anti-virus, or by your firewall. Or if by "open" you mean you are trying to install it, it could be you don't have admin rights to install, so it's a Windows UAC 'shield' you see.

To increase your chances of getting help, I would suggest taking a screenshot of the 'shield' if it sticks long enough, or of the msg you see right before the shield appears.

I HAVE A VIRUS I CAN NOT GET RID OF FROM SOME FREE PORN SITE IN MY SETTINGS.I HAVE TO USE FIREFOX WHEN I SHOULD BE ON INTERNET EXPLORER. IT STARTS TO LOAD AND AFTER THREE BARS IN THE LOADING PROGRESS BOX. IT THEN GOES TO WHAT EVER PAGE I WAS ON PRIOR TO THAT.

A:DOWNLOADED VIRUS

The virus must have affected your CAPS LOCK key!!! Quick!! Smash the keyboard with a hammer to prevent the spread of this horrible virus Joking...

First, I would suggest you continue to use Firefox and forget about IE except for doing windows and office updates.

Second, I would say that's malware or a browser hijack, though you may have viri (viruses) in addition.

I would begin my downloading, updating, and running Spybot search & destroy, Lavasoft's AdAware, and Microsofts AntiSpyware programs. They are all free.

Do you have an anti-virus program installed? If so update it and run a complete scan. If not AVG antivirus is free and a decent performing product.

Try the above and we can go from there

Just my .02 (YMMV)

Hello tangodelta22Welcome to the Bleeping Computer Malware Removal Forum, you posted two other topics , a fix was posted and you never replied back, we do not have the manpower and resources to analyze your log , work up a fix and to get no reply from you, there are to many people with infected computers that need help. You have other issues on this system besides Mbs Billing, you are also infected with the SDBot worm The reason your infected with MBS Billing is because you or someone that used your computer accessed a porn site, gained entry into the site and did not read the disclosure to cancel the account in 3 days and now your being billed for it, deny it if you like but this is the only way you got infected with this .This is difficult to say the least to remove, sometimes a reformat is needed, if you have not resolved this then post a new HJT log and lets see what we can do to help you.

Hi everyone,
New user to SevenForums.

For the longest time we did not have IE on our HP Smart Touch. We would use Firefox. Well, I needed to get IE 10 installed. I downloaded IE 10 from MS and installed. I made sure the Turn Windows Features On/Off from Control Panel had IE selected. However, after I went through the installation, IE 10 was not available. It is showing as an installed update to Windows but does not show in the Control Panel>Program and Features.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get IE running? or how I can check what may be disabling it?

I do not know how IE was removed and unavailable to begin with.

Thanks for any help.

Hey started a new font thing & decided to download some new fonts. THAT was easy.... I even managed to open the zip file...but all I come up with is a page I can print. I'm running windows xp, what do I need to do to use the fonts? & once I unzip a file does it zip it's self back up/ or do I do it / or do I just leave it????

A:downloaded fonts help

Sorry, your question is unclear to me.

The systems fonts are stored in a specific font directory, usually C:\WINNT\fonts. Often you can simply *drag & drop* the fonts into that directory and they will be automatically installed on the system and usable by most windows applications. If this fails to work, you could modify one of the MS font installation programmes to install your particular font and make the minor registry changes needed.

Still trying to resolve issues with IE8. Looking at downloaded controls I see three instances of Java Plug-in. All installed at the same time when I installed the latest version of Java.

Is this normal? If I remove one (and then two) will it remove all of them? Should I just disable two?

Then looking at "run without permissions" I see even more instances of Java Plug-n.

I do want to keep Java Plug-in but wonder why I have so many of the same?

A:Three of the same downloaded control add-on

Those three seam to be the same. If it was my computer I would remove all Java and get a fresh download of Java. I think this might answer all your questions.

I am soon buying an External HDD to use with my desk top computer, running Windows XP
If I download an application can I install on to the new HDD , and run it from the new external HDD..?
Thanks ?.
Mypenry

A:Downloaded An Application...

Yes you can, but that does not mean you can go from computer to computer using the program. When a program is installed it make modification to Windows registry. This allows Windows to access the program when you start the program in the Program Files or click an icon on the desktop. If you were to move the external drive to another computer those registry entries would not be there, so windows would not know how to handle the program.
The simple answer is yes you can. Just do not expert to move it from computer to computer.
I hope this helps.

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hello, I have an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. It's actually been relatively fine for me until the last few days. I was having some problems editing video files and couldn't figure out why, so I updated to service pack 2. Around the same time, although I honestly cannot be sure that it was because of the update, none of my downloads will work. I believe it happened once or twice before I updated my sp but now I can't download ANYTHING. It's bizarre. The entire file will download and the file will show download progress just like normal. But, once complete the file shows up as 0 kb and doesn't open. I've tried using firefox 3.5.3 and IE 8...both do the same thing. I have also checked my permissions and made sure that I am allowed access to all of the folders that the documents are saved in. Nothing seems to help.

I really don't want to have to format/reinstall windows since I have quite a bit of stuff I would need to backup. Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks.

I just downgraded from Vista SP2 to Vista SP1 and by doing so, have somehow screwed up my downloads in both Firefox and IE8. Whenever I download in either one, the download results in a file that is 0 kb.

The strange thing is, Google Chrome somehow wasn't affected by this downgrade (if that's what caused this) and I can download files fine in that browser.

Can someone tell me what's going on here and how to fix this in IE8 and FF 3.5? I've already tried reinstalling FF and it didn't help at all.

A:Downloaded Files Are 0 KB

Why did you downgrade form SP2 to SP1? Try reinstalling SP2.

I recently installed Real Player. Since then, when downloading a .mp3 file in Internet Explorer, once the File Download box pops up, the filename is changed to .mpga format. If I just highlight the download link, the file will be named as .mp3. Also, I uninstalled Real Player, and this doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. Any ideas? I don't want to have to keep renaming or converting files every time I download an mp3.. I'm really looking for a solution to the entire problem so that they'll download as mp3's again. Thanks in advance for all your help!

A:Downloaded mp3 to mpga in IE6

Sounds like, when you installed Real Player you did not select [Custom] and check your file associations. Or did not use the Real Player option to always reset file associations if another program changes it.

Actually, before installing any ADDITIONAL player, you should check what files are associated whit your current player or players, and make sure the file association of the new player are not in conflict.

I always uncheck ANY association conflict in a new player, then change them later to the player I want to be default for the file.

According to a Google hit for MPGA, = Mpeg-1 Layer3 Audio Stream and that links to Winamp. Bet you have Winamp installed and it is over-riding the file association for mpg. You need to disassociate mpg from Winamp.

I bought Easy Hi Qrecorder program a few years ago. It worked fine. I had to re-download to a new computer as the other had crashed.

I use XP home edition. The Easy Hi Q recorder is reputable, from Roemer Software. I redownloaded it to the next computer which had been recently cleaned out of my son's user account and all his programs and files.

The Easy Hi Q downloads fine and installs. But when I click on the execute file to start it, I get "DWGTrueView 2010 wanting to install instead, which was part of an Autocad program my son had, for mapping. I can't seem to get rid of this mix up. Then of course it can't find the "source" file from that autocad program since it has been deleted for months. I also tried a clean disk and defragmented after deleting all my sons files.
I just want my Easy Hi Q recorder to work properly and open up.

I just tried an XP repair using the XP disk. Still no change. And it took all afternoon to do this.
