hp 9020 scanner USB and Tamarack 2400 USB film scanner

Q: hp 9020 scanner USB and Tamarack 2400 USB film scanner

I am using XP cant use both devices together. device mgr recognizes just one of them. Get device mgr. code 38 "windows cant load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory". The windows trouble shooter doesn' help solve this particular problem. I can load either scanner singularly and it does not give error code 38 and works fine unless I try to load both scanners. I have loaded latest xp drivers for each of these USB scanners. Does any have a fix for this problem. Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks edjal

I am looking at purchaseing a new scanner. I have several thousand slides and negatives that I am needing to scan and want to find the best equipment for this at a decent price. I've seen some people say the Plustek 7500i SE is a good dedicated scanner. Even the Plustek 7200i SE has a good rating. Is there any that are better or that you might recommend instead. I'm really struggling on what direction to go. A dedicated film scanner is suppose to be better quality but at a much higher price. I've looked up flatbed scanners for under $500 and the CanoScan 8800F seems to have the highest rating and good reviews.
If anyone could point me towards one they like or recommend I would greatly appricaite it.
Like I said I'm getting to the point where I'm getting confused on which direction I should go.
Thank you for your help.

I am using an OTEK Filmscanner to scan in old colour slides. The scans come out very blue and it is difficult to correct the colour using Photoimpressions 6 software supplied with the scanner. Is there any way to "calibrate" the scanner to reduce or eliminate the blue colouring?

A:OTEK Film Scanner

Picasa (a free program) has a NEUTRAL COLOR PICKER that I have used to correct photos taken at night that have an unwanted blue color tint.
You bring up a copy (never the original) photo-click the picker on a white part of a photo (a cloud or a white shirt) and the color tones are corrected. If a photo has no white part I don't know of another easy method.

Having read recent questions and answers regarding the message - "General failure in transfer bad info header info. Bad value error.", I am still at a loss. The scanner is a Zennox film scanner wich comes up in Device Manager as an OVT scanner. It worked OK with Windows XP but I have updated to Windows 7. I have tried to install both 32 and 64 bit drivers. I am told the best driver is installed each time. I am also told the device is working properly. The device comes with Blaze Photo 2. My machine has 6 USB ports. I have tried each one of them and still get the same error message each time. No matter how many times I click OK on the error message, it stays there. I cannot even get rid of it using Task Manager. The only way is to reboot the computer. I have tried launching the software before connecting the scanner - still the same.

I am running out of ideas. Can anyone help?

A:OVT Film Scanner & Windows 7

These sub-$100 scanners are supremely crappy "image manglers" that are often posted about because of the low quality scans (blurry, bad color, etc), as well as the insane number of complaints about the devices not working with the computer.

Lots of things don't work in Windows 7, either. It probably won't work without new drivers. However, being cheap crap, new drivers are highly unlikely.

These things are sold under at least a dozen or so brands worldwide. Cheap junky things.

I have purchased and installed an OTEK Film Scanner, which is identical to the VuPoint model.

When I attempt to acquire an image in Photo Impression, I get an error message "OVT Source Eror - genneral failure in transfer bad info. header info. Bad value error"

How do I get past this error message and begin to acquire images?

A:Film and Slide Scanner problems

You most likely installed a TWAIN driver for the scanner. It is probably listed in your programs under an OTEK listing. You can normally scan directly from the scanner driver. Opening the scanner software will usually tell you if it is not detecting the scanner.

If you can scan directly from the scanner software the problem is with Photo Impressions. There is often a “Select TWAIN source” under the program file menu. See if you can select the OTEK source there.

There is a good chance the scanner isn’t being seen. First make sure you installed the OTEK software per instructions – ie connected the scanner before or after installing the software. Most scanner software has a trouble shooting screen that appears if it can’t find the scanner. You might try removing the scanner program in Control Panel and reinstalling according to your startup guide.

If OTEK doesn’t have a support web page you might look for some troubleshooting hints from VuScan.

Today I thought I'd do some film scanning with my six week old Epson V600 scanner. It powered up with the green light but the usual blue light didn't come on. I checked connections and all was well. I put in a ticket to Epson.

Some thirty minutes later I needed to print a document on line, turned on my Epson WF-2530 printer and now it doesn't work. Both are connected to separate USB ports, one in back and the other in front since I ran out of ports in the back.

It's beginning to sound like a computer problem more than a device problem as both were working yesterday. Both devices are connected to my vista computer and I thought I'd ask you guys since there is no Vista forum anymore. I hate to lug both printer and scanner upstairs where my Window 7 computer is as I'd have to do all that set up and software load, etc. Any ideas where the problem may be?

Check for scanner driver errors in Device Manager as it sounds like incorrect driver.
Either incorrect driver for that scanner model, or incorrect driver for that version of Windows.

Another possibility is the scanner itself may be faulty and needs replacing.

I have over 3000 slides & some film I'd like to digitize. I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. I have the time to scan but I don't have the money to spend a lot on a professional scanner or to have them done by an outside service. I suspect, once I've scanned them, I'll sell the device & stick strictly to digital imaging. I don't need perfect results (most of them are holiday trips, etc.) but do plan to offer some for sale on eBay, etc. I have been looking at alternatives such as Vupoint, Optex, Wolverine & Spectare although I understand that these are really only cameras & not scanners & the reviews see quite "negative".
I may be asking too much, here, but can anyone recommend some options based on your experience?
Also, need I be concerned about memory space on my PC - 2 Gig memory, 320 gig HD? I imagine I'll burn them on discs as I won't be needing to see them regularly.
Many thanks, Nick.

It comes with Arcsoft Software Suite and PhotoImpression 6 on the same disk. The software works fine but its only copying a larger image of the negative, not producing a picture. I have removed, unistalled and installed but still get a negative when I hit 'acquire'. I could also choose 'copy' from the scanner itself with same results. Their 'HELP' doesn't.

Hi ludditedavid, and welcome to TSG.

Are you saying that you put the scanner's CD into your optical drive and it did not automatically start running? If so, and you are running some version of Windows, autorun may be disabled in Windows or the CD itself is not configured to Autorun.
Try opening the CD in Windows Explorer and see if there is an autorun.exe or setup.exe file in the root (top level) directory. Double click on the autorun.exe or setup.exe icon and see if the installer runs.

A:problems with otek fs-500-3 film scanner

Another one of those cheap garbage Chinese scanners that have more problems than anything. And even if it works, you get fuzzy, off-color, poor dynamic range images. You'd be better off letting a service scan your slides/negatives, for that $50-100. Or better yet, get a good high quality scanner. I just sold my extra pro Minolta scanner for $200, quite a bargain. Yeah, you saved some money with your Chinese device, but you get what you pay for sometimes. This is one of those times, I'm sad to report.

But good luck to you!

I have an Otek Scanner and have been scanning my photos and negs. I have had a few issues with it - namely trying to use it as a hardware addition to my computer. Once I figured out that the Otek unit, when plugged into a usb port on the computer is actually acting as a storage device I stopped looking for the thing. If anyone is having the same problem, try this:

On the Otek Scanner, click on Mode, then arrow to USB MSDC. Click Enter. Then, on the pc, go to My Computer, or Computer (I have Vista OS) and the set of drives on your pc will come up and the Otek scanner will be there.

As you scan your stuff, the Otek drive will register it all and you can edit and sort it with your normal picture software. Move all your stuff out of that Otek drive if you want to switch off. Because it has no way to clear its memory, if you don't, next time you switch it on, it will have kept the same set you worked with. To get around this, when you finish scanning and editing, clear out the unit for the next session by treating it like a disk. Right click the Otek drive in My Computer and then click Format. This will clear all the data off.

Is this the way the unit operates? or have I done something wrong somwhere?

Those scanners are garbage. The design is fundamentally flawed as it is (focus-less), but they're so cheaply made that I read almost nothing but complaints. For the same $100 or so it costs, you may as well pay a lab to do the work for you on professional scanners.

I've tried scanning text but all "save as" file extensions seem to be for photos like jpeg, tiff, gif, etc. I didn't seem to find a text file extension with which to save a text file. I will be opening and working with this text file in Microsoft Word. Any tips or advise in scanning text with the above scanner and opening it with MS Word is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

A:epson scanner 2400 Photo

You need to use a OCR - Optical Character Recognisition program to scan the document and then save it as a text document.

You should have the Epson Smart Panel installed that came with the scanner. Open it and select OCR and go through all the steps to scan it into the computer.

Hi all. This ones a bit annoying and I hope someone can help. Its certainly good for concentrating...

On my network there are many vista machines set up with default profiles and some are connected to HP Scanjet 2400's. All are running Office 2007.

The problem that I am experiencing is simple. When I install the Scanjet 2400, microsoft document imaging has the default dpi set to 100 for the color default.

The upshot of this with the 2400 is that it only scans the top left quarter of the page.

I have logged in as admin and changed the default to 300dpi which fixes the issues and retains the setting after a relog but this does not work for other users that have mandatory roaming profiles.

They can change the setting for the duration of their login but but it doesnt save itself on their profile. What would be useful would be to find where the setting is stored so it could be scripted to change on login or adjusted on the profile itself but I cannot find it.

Thats basically it. Can anyone help me find where the settings are stored for the default color profile that is used for this scanner by Microsoft Office Document Imaging..

It appears to be fine on the other scanning software installed on the system so its just the MS software.

Long shot. Maybe someone is bored. I spent a couple of hours yesterday trolling through the registry and program/user directories trying to find it.

Windows XP Home Edition, 512M RAM, 120 gig hard drive(80 gog available), scanner connected via USB.

Epson Perfection 2400 scanner - Purchased December 2003, installed and worked like a charm until approximately 2 months ago. Now when I try to run EPSON SCAN software, get following message:

"Escndv.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience." - well, so am I.

Have reloaded Epson software from CD supplied. Have downloaded updated drivers from Epson website. Have spoken to Epson who says it's a Microsoft Windows problem and I need to talk to them. Called Microsoft, spoke to a nice gentleman in India who had me restore system to earliest available restore date - didn't work, not early enough. No other suggestions from India.

INTERESTING OBSERVATION. When I load the supplied software from supplied CD onto my wife's computer (running XP), everything works fine!

I do run several programs to detect and eliminate harmful spyware, dataminers, etc. (Ad-aware, SpyBot, Evidence Eliminator, etc). Don't know if this has anything to do with my problem.

I was going to try my luck with Epson again when I discovered this website. Anyone out there got any suggestions?

Trying to install drivers for the Visioneer OneTouch 9020 USB scanner on my 64-bit install of Windows 7 Ultimate. The scanner is from 1999 so it was made for Windows 98 and therefore made with 32-bit drivers. Windows 7 won't install the drivers unless they are 32-bit. I have checked the manufacturer's website (Visioneer OneTouch 9000 and 9020 Drivers and Manuals) and found that they dropped support after XP. I have also tried compatibility mode when running the program, but that didn't change anything and I still got the error message.

A:"Visioneer OneTouch 9020 USB" scanner drivers on 64-bit

For the desktop FIRSTLY put XP on a relatively small partition and then reinstall Windows7 as part of a dual boot system, by editing boot.ini to reduce default 25s delay to several seconds then if the scanner needs to be used go to XP within that time otherwise continue as normal.

Hi White Knights, Good Guys and Gals,

My PC was attacked, likely through Internet Explorer today, since I haven't downloaded anything. The following are is the list of Malware that XP Security Center has notified:

and Trojan Remover has identified

and Mcafee
NTROSKRN... (rootkit trojan)

The program "Protection Systems" continues to pop up prompting me to buy along with random IExplorer bombs despite having removed it from programs. The system regularly freezes when I employ anti-malware programs.

I have attempted to use in normal and safe operating mode (Mcafee from safe command prompt)
=Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise (halts early in operation, Identifies NTROSKRN and 11 cookies)
=Stopzilla (Halts early in operation)
=Malwarebytes(fails to open even with changed name)
=Rooter Malware Finder (Eric_71) (operates results indeterminant)
=Trojan Remover (Runs. results indeterminant)

I am not in a good position to format the PC (in the wilderness).

Any advice what is preventing these malware programs from operating?

Thanks, and happy to repay the favor particularly if you like homebrew since PC wars arent my specialty!

According to Windows XP For Dummies from year 2002, any scanner can be used with Windows XP because of some basic WIA which permits scanners to be used without being installed. Since I have an older scanner which worked well on another Windows XP computer on which the scanner was installed, I figured I could follow the instructions in that Dummies book to use the same scanner in Windows XP on a different computer. So I began to try.Instructions began like this:To use the Scanner and Cameria Wizard,1. Click Start --> Control Panel2. Click Printers and Other Hardware, click Scanners and Cameras...BUT THERE WAS NO CORRESPONDING WINDOW PRESENT. THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SCANNERS AND CAMERAS WINDOW, BUT NONE THERE.I could then not follow any further instructions.I also found in Control Panel, an item called Scanners And Cameras, so I opened this to see if there were selections which I could follow according to the Dummies book. There was only an "install hardware" item inside. Also, somewhere along the attempted process, Windows invited me to look for drivers to install, but I was not sure if that fit my purposes or not. Would that path bring in the WIA software which Windows XP is expected to already have? What am I missing here? Windows XP is supposed to have some WIA software allowing basic features of any scanner to be used, but I could not find the instructions path to make use of the scanner. The scanner was also plugged in while I tried the process... Read more

Currently I use Microsoft Security essentials as my "active monitoring" - What i'm looking for is any virus scanners that you find work well? (I only like "free" scanners.)

Consider I'm not seeking an active "monitor" that runs as a windows process. What I'm looking for is a "file scanner" that scans designated folders/drives.

Now adays, if you're paying attention, the quantity of spyware/Trojans/active x viruses is at an all time high. It seems like I get infected going to common websites even. I am looking to expand my assemblage of file scanners. In my opinion, the more, the better. (Sometimes I like to scan my drives with 3+ virus scanners. I'd like even more.)

I currently use:

Malwarebytes - Sweet secondary scanner. Doesn't run as a process (is just a scanner) and isn't "active monitoring" Perfect!

clam - Sweet scanner I actually got lastnight. Takes a long time, and doesn't clean files? (that's fine, but not as good as I hoped)

Super Anti Spyware - sweet spyware scanner

Online Virus Scanners - Housecall - Housecall is the best online scanner I've found and actually cleans the files for FREE. (do you guys know any other good online files scanners?)

Can you guys reccommend any additional file scanners that scan windows drives/files? Please remember, I don't want it to actively manage/monitor! (I USE MSE FOR THIS) I want it to be a secondary scanner that scans u... Read more

Hi there

Just looking for some advice on an issue I am having at work.

A user cannot scan with the above scanner. They are getting the following error.

Scanner Status - 0 Error Number =1116 Twain Data Source Not Found Please Reinstall Scanner Software.

The Scanner is detected in Device Manager (No errors next to it)

I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled but the user gets the same issue.

I have added them as a local admin and once the software is installed I have logged on as the user. It detects that new hardware has been found and continues with the install but then they get the same issue.

Another user can log on to the machine and it works fine!

I have reseated the scanner to force it to pick up the connection but SAME ISSUE!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have bought an Epson Perfection 1200S scanner, second hand. I hoped to plug it into the USB of my PC but only after buying it did I see that the 1200U model is for USB and the handbook for this 1200S model says that unless my PC has an SCSI board, I need to install one. The scanner came with an interface board but I am not confident about opening my PC to install it.

The scanner also came with a Microtech USB-SCSI-DB25B, which is not part of the Epson package but I guess is an extra that the seller threw in. It has a USB prong on one end that could go into my PC, and the other end would fit the cable that attaches to the scanner.

Can I install the scanner without using the SCSI board?

A:Solved: Can my SCSI scanner run as a USB scanner?

From the looks of it the Microtech USB-SCSI-DB25B is a usb to scsi converter so you should be able to plug it into the USB port and have it work. Seems like it should be Microtech USB-SCSI-DB25B to SCSI cable to scanner.

While Microtech USB-SCSI-DB25B did not give me too many things to look up... maybe you can provide a picture of this unit to verify....

either that or verify its something like this -

Windows 8, of course; Brother MFC-7460DN Laser Printer. Paperport 14. Nothing I do will allow me to scan from that printer in Windows 8! However, I can print just fine.

Windows 7 machine, Brother MFC-7460DN Laser Printer. Paperport 14. Everything works just fine and dandy. I double checked just a little while ago, and scanning went off without a hitch.

The only difference between Paperport on the Win 7 machine and the Win 8 machine is that I bought Paperport 14 for the Win 8 machine and while waiting for it to arrive, I downloaded and installed the trial version.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Paperport and the printer multiple times, in the Brother Utilities I clicked on and installed the Scanner Utility and still no joy!

Here's a snip of the Installation Diagnostics. The Scanner (Driver) Port looks hinky to me, but what do I know?

And, yes, I could use my Brother MFC-J825 for scanning, but that would be a pain because of the printer's location. Or, I could run into another room and use the J5910, but that would be even more inconvenient. 'Sides, I hate to have something that just won't work in Windows 8.

Bottom line is that it does seem to be a Windows 8 issue, because when I check, Windows says it's all good. And it ain't!

I would very much appreciate any help I can get with this, since I'm flummoxed so far. Thanks in advance.

Please do not take offense to any of my suggestions if they sound too basic:

So, I assume you have already downloaded and tried the latest drivers from Brother?

Can I also assume you are using it via a direct USB connection and it is not set up as part of a network and it is not wireless?

If so, can I assume you have applied the latest firmware update (9/6/2013)?

I have a Brother all in on MFC-J615W and it has been BEAUTIFUL for me. One of the main things I've been doing with it is scanning old pictures for genealogy purposes. I LOVE the fact that I can use the option FROM the scanner that allows you to scan INTO a graphics/photo program all wirelessly (on the scanner, I select SCAN and then "into a graphics program"). It has always shown the "connecting" message in the printer display and then it proceeds to open the scan in Paint (as default). No problems. LOVE IT.

Tonight, I just can't get it to go. It acts like it is trying to connect, but then just goes back out to it's default display (the time) and I have no scan.

HOWEVER....if I were to open up the photo software and IMPORT from the scanner, I have no issues.....and yes, this is wireless, as well.

SO..because I can do one wirelessly and not the other, I wouldn't think it's the network...or am I wrong? It's just bizarre that it would connect one way and not the other. Hmmmmm......

It just takes longer to import than to just scan into a graphics program, I think, so I like to scan INTO the software from the scanner..

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Dear Seventists,

I recently had the great fortune to be given a used computer that is only 5 years old (BIOS dates back to 2009), which is like brand-new to me as I used to have only very dated desktops, my most recent being from 2006. It consists of an ASRock N68C-S UCC motherboard and 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 DIMMs. In order to make use of the Dual-Channel advantages, I installed Windows 7 x64 and everything has worked like a charm so far. It feels like driving a Ferrari compared to the experience I've been having with my previous oldies. That is however until I ran into the following problem:

My old board had integrated Gigabit LAN, whereas the new one only has Fast Ethernet. I recently bought new Ethernet cables because I set up a home server and wanted to be able to distribute files as fast as if they were stored locally to get rid of the need of carrying around external hard drives. The fact that the N68C-S does not support Gigabit speed became even more bitter when I learned that the otherwise identical model N68C-GS does. Which means that one supposedly insignificant letter messed up my new network infrastructure.

Now after having put aside my personal distress about this particular circumstance, I lightened up when I accidentally found this old Gigabit capable PCI NIC (I wasn't even aware I ever had one in my possession). I thought serendipity had knocked on my door, as I was just about to buy one in a couple of days. Hours of desperate trial and error runs later though, ... Read more

A:Tamarack TC9020 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet Adapter PCI

I don't know how the computer can be five years old when the motherboard wasn't released until June 2010. FAST LAN is just a crappy ASRock feature which is supposed to reduce latency in-game when you install the FAST LAN crapware. The onboad LAN connection should work fine.

I'm really questioning that BIOS date though. 2009? A year before the board was released?

Ok using a cannon MG 3502 printer which comes with lousy basic OCR software.
Is there better / free OCR software that I can use after I scan  the doc; that would look; be easy to save the doc and get set up the same as the original document and get add / remove text as needed  ?
The bare bones on that came with the printer is bloody awful; the finished doc looks nothing like the original doc and hope I can do a whole better ! ?
Thanks so awaiting the help . .

A:OCR / Scanner

There is virtually no free-ware OCR software, and what there is isn't very good - I've looked !  And good OCR software is fairly expensive,
One problem is that the software bundled with scanners is usually two or three generations out of date. The other problem is that OCR software seems to 'learn' as you use it, and the more you use it the better it gets at recognising the sort of documents you are scanning. The biggest problems I have found with it lie in the area of document formatting. You sometimes need to play with the settings that define the document image - it may look like single column to you but not to the scanner. One other easily adjusted setting (usually !) is the resolution you scan the document at. This needs to be at least 300 dpi for good results.
So, unless you are willing and able to pay out a fair chunk of cash for market leading software, you are probably stuck with what you have. But experimenting with the settings can lead to satisfactory results but you can expect still to do a fair bit of re-formatting of your document.

A:USB Scanner

Not likely that it is having conflict. I don't know if this will work, but try it out. Go into the C:\Windows directory and look for a folder OR a file called TWAIN32.* it may be a DLL file. I can't remember(its been a while since this happened to my scanner) now either delete this file OR folder then reboot with the scanner disconnected, reinstall you scanner software and shut down. Now connect the scanner and turn the power on. That should do it. Good Luck and let me know what happens.

I work at a retail store selling computers. I always have questions about Scanners and just how much dpi is enough for certain projects.
For example; If I were to take a 4"x6" photo scan it, and print a 8"x10" on a inkjet photo printer(HP 7150 or the like) would I notice a difference in quality between a 1200x1200 dpi and 2400x2400 scanner? What is the general rule of thumb here? I've heard the human eye can not distinguish between 300dpi and the extra dpi is useful for enlarging. Such as, a 600dpi could double the size of your scan without losing any quality. 1200dpi quadruaple and so on. Is this true?
One other thing, is there a real simple way to explain what is the difference between a 2400x4800dpi scanner and a 2400x2400 scanner. I know that the smaller number of the two is the true dpi it will give you, but what does the other number mean?

Hehe, I know this is pact full of questions. Any comments/answers are very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

A:Scanner dpi: How much is enough?

A very good photo has 300 PPI of information. If you scan at over 300 PPI you are not increasing the content but just adding extra pixels. The scanner is inventing those pixels by guessing at what they should be based on neighbors. You can do that at least as well in a good image editor and more quickly by just scanning at 300 PPI and resampling to higher for large blowups. This is a good read Ė go on to the next page where he runs tests on a photo taken with a fixed focal length Nikon on a tripod:

Real world objects like jewelry or mechanical parts can be scanned at higher resolution as long as you donít have one of those skinny CIS scanners that get their power from the USB. CIS scanners have no depth of field and will only scan the surface of something completely flat on the surface of the glass..

If you scan in two digit B&W (lineart) higher resolutions will help eliminate aliasing or jaggies in text and line drawings. You end up with large files for what should be small files but it is worth it for some uses. I never go above 600 PPI for anti-alising but you will benefit from even higher with deminishing returns. Scanning a full page document at 2400 PPI in a standard consumer scanner would take a LONG time. Only the smaller number really matters. A 1200 X 2400 scanner does 1200 pixels per inch and the stepped motor can stop 2400 times in an inch. The 2400 is basically meaningless.

Film and slides can benefit from up to 40... Read more

Hello all! I am currently looking to buy a new scanner for myself. I presently have an old CanoScan LiDE 500F, which is nice but aging. I would use the scanner for photos (both digital and darkroom prints), negatives, old documents, and a few drawings and other pieces of artwork. The primary usage would be photos. What are your recommendations? What is your favorite scanner and why?

Right now, I am leaning towards the Canon CanoScan 4507B002 LiDE 110 Color Image Scanner, based on this review guide to the best scanners. What do you think?

Also, it would have to work easily with my iMac running OS 10.5.8.

Is there a good LAN Scanner that detects the shared resources on my LAN Computers? It should scan range of Ips and detect what shared folder/resources does the employees have on their PCs... Many thanks!!

A:LAN Scanner

You could do that from a script. Here's a post with links to several.

I have Epson 4490 scanner that is connected to one computer running windows 7.In the same room I have another computer using windows xp.I want to be able to use the scanner on both.I have tried to install the software on the xp one,but it will not open the scanner.Just says it cannot be started. Is there a way to share the scanner between the rwo,or how can I get it installed on xp?

A:scanner help

see the two drivers that are competing with each other. Uninstall the driver that isn't working if that is the case. Click on the scanner driver and see if it is working properly. Before you do this, be sure that the USB cable is connected and the scanner is turned on.

What make and model scanner? I know there are some that flat-out refuse to work under XP.....a couple of the older Visioneer models come to mind.

I'm not sure that this is the place to post this, but here goes for now.

I have done quite a bit of research to find out about the best features on a scanner, especially for color management. Epson 1200 or ScanMaker come up well. I have searched on the internet for information as to where to look at these in my area but have come up empty. Neither Business Depot or Future shop have them.

I have a very inexpensive scanner, Artec Ultima 2000, which no one has heard of. It doesn't give good prints, but maybe better software would give better results. Is it the software that makes the difference in picture quality? Reproducing photos is about the only thing I will be using the scanner for. Being able to use it to photocopy text is secondary. If I decide to get a new system,I would appreciate opinions as to the best scanner and software for accurate colors when photos are reproduced. Also, can anyone tell me where Epson and ScanMaker are sold in Canada?

I am so frustrated. Your opinions will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

A:Which scanner to get?

Most of the scan quality is in the scanner. Software can help you make adjustments, which can be helpful, but if you have a poor quality scan to start with, it isn't enough.

I've been very happy with the Visioneer line of scanners.

Q: Scanner

I have a visioneer vx sheet fed b/w scanner. I had been using it on an old computer to send faxes. I recently hooked it up to my new computer using the serial port and installing all the software and drivers just like the other one, now it doesn't work. It says that the computer cannot find it when checking com ports 1 + 2. The old computer was running win 95 and the new computer was running win 98 when I tried to hook it up, now I have win 2k installed (win 98 crashed too much). The only thing I can think is that the serial ports on the new computer are bad. It isn't a brand new computer. Is there an attachment I can get to hook the scanner up to the parallel port? Thanks for any help!!

Q: scanner

My scanner " Bearpaw" has suddenly gone kaput on me. I usually scan thro' photoshop and the scanner goes through all the motions but comes up with a balck screen. When I try to scan straight from the panel to the computer it tells me there is no document in the scanner!I have tried with several different documents and it is all the same. I haven't changed any of the settings. Can you help me. I have windows 98SE.

Good Evening Nita, this kind of problem is very difficult to determine.
Scanners have a nasty habit of just dying like that.

I would suggest you try the scanner on another machine, you will need to install drivers or whatever, but it will save a lot of mucking around.
W-98 can be cantankerous and difficult to play with.

I often load a different operating system to test these things but that involves a lot of work for a newbie.

Others may have different ideas.

Cheers, qldit.

I have quite a few years doing installs & such, but this is the first time I've been asked to network a scanner.

Just in case someone has done this or has a solution it is a Canon mp730 multifunction device pluged via USB into a wireless linksys printserver. Yes, the printer prints fine but the guy called & asked about using the scanner from his desktop.

A:Has anyone ever ran a scanner over a lan?

My best advice is runaway.

I've set up HP and Epson network scanners and they rarely work as intended. You sweat over geting it all set up and then find no one uses it because they have to get up from there desk to use the scanner. Then the person who is near the scanner gets P$"$%£% off because people keep asking them to put stuff on that scanner and they get interupted by people asking is the scanner switched on. If the PC that has the scanner connected to it is a uses PC it will take a performace hit during the scan.

Set up is normally easy enough if the scanner has network software.

Well--first off--if I just bought a product and it didn't work right, and tech support couldn't or woudn't help me, I'd take it back and get something else. As far as your error, you were a bit vauge on the specifics, but if I were you, I would go to
Visioneer Support and punch in some keywords and see if there is an article on your specific problem.
