expanding the memory on a toshiba laptop

Q: expanding the memory on a toshiba laptop

me again. I got a clean win 2000 Pro installed on a toshiba satellite 1735 laptop. It's working fine, but just a bit slow, not too bad for a not so new laptop.

However, I was asked (it's not mine) if I could add more memory to it. I have been trying to find the right memory stick for it, but I feel stuck.

On the toshiba site I found the system specs which state that it is expandable to 192 MB and it comes standard with 64 MB.

For the expansion memory it lists the following:
Module type: SODIMM
64Mbit/128Mbit PC100 SDRAM. 3.3V, 8ns access speed
Data/Address Bus Width: 64-bit/14-bit

I then went to their link where to buy it, but I am not sure if this is the right one (it did come up when giving them the model number):
Kingston 128MB SDRAM non-parity 144-pin SODIMM. Since 1996, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., has used Kingston Technology as the official designer and manufacturer of NoteWorthy memory upgrades for Toshiba's entire line of portable and desktop personal computers. Kingston-NoteWorthy memory products are designed to meet the exact specification requirements of each system set by Toshiba.

Is there anyone who did buy extra memory on this particular laptop, or is there anyone who can tell me please if this is the right one?

I sure would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Hi All,

I have the above laptop I want to dedicate to a CNC machine and it has a whopping 16M but a slot for another 128M. I am having trouble locating a 128M stick, but plenty of 256M and beyond.

The Toshiba specs state
133MHz Pentium
100MHz FSB
128M 60ns 144-pin SO DIMM

Which of the following can I use?
128M PC100 144-pin SO DIMM (no speed quoted in Nanoseconds)
128M PC133 144-pin SO DIMM (no speed quoted in Nanoseconds)

128M EDO 144-pin SO DIMM (no speed quoted in Nanoseconds)

256M PC100 144-pin SO DIMM (I assume it will ignore the extra 128M)

Hello peeps, I am buyong parts fro my Toshiba Satellite Model 1800-S274. My question is will it take pc133 ram or just pc100, Thanks in advance

A:Solved: Toshiba laptop memory

Looking at the specs on the machine, I would recommend going with the 100 as the proc fsb is also 100. In my experience, for some reason laptops are usually quite picky about only using the memory they are designed with.

I am upgrading a laptop for someone. It's an oldy!
Toshiba Satellite Pro 2250.
The clear decal on it says, "4megs RAM, upgradable to 28megs"
I took off the panel on back, and it's a smaller type of chip.

My question is:
How large of an upgrade can I do? 64megs? Does it depend on it's current CMOS or BIOS?
It has WIN95 loaded on it presently. My goal is to load WIN98 on it once I get the mem more than 4megs.

Any advice?

I have a new Toshiba laptop - Satellite A20 which came with 512 mb ram. Aida 32 shows 480 mg ram. At diagnostic startup, only with the absolute necessary running, it has 60% memory available. With all the startup programs and before running any additional programs, it shows 43% available. Just running TSG and it shows 38% available. Is this normal or do you think that something is wrong? Under the best of circumstances, should it not show better than 60% memory available?

Any comments and advice would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

Herewith a link to the tech spec of my laptop.

I have 512M of memory in it, have upgraded the BIOS to the latest available, but when putting another stick of memory in it to bring it to 1Gig, while the BIOS sees the sum total of memory, the Properties of My Computer, does not.

The spec indicates a maximum permitted level of memory being the 512M but I don't understand just what exactly it is that is preventing this memory to be Seen by all elements. If the BIOS can see it, why not the rest of the system/computer/software(???)

Many thanks for any help offered.

I'm come across several old Toshiba laptops as I think they are very well built and I like to collect them.

According to Toshiba's website, many of them (including my own which I've owned for years) have support for up to 144-160MB RAM (either 16MB onboard + 128MB chip or 32MB onboard + 128MB chip).

However, all of the laptops I have come across only show the 64MB or 128MB, I've never seen "144" or "160". How could this be? I've verified on Toshiba's site that they have onboard memory of either 16MB or 32MB. It's like if there is onboard memory the OS (Windows 95/98) isn't recognizing it.

Now when I put in the GB I go to controll panel>system and 980 MB show up not 1480 or so. when I have just the 512 MB in 480 MB show up. when I have just the 1GB in 980 MB show up. I have switch slots. So my question does anyone know why both won't show up together. Both are DDR2-PC4200

Hi everyone!

my current laptop has 6gb RAM. I've opened it and it has two slots: one has the 4gb RAM board and the 2nd slot has a 2gb RAM board.

I want to change the 2gb RAM board for one of 4gb so my computer gets 8gb RAM memory at the end.

How does this work? What do I need to know? Can I use a RAM board from any manufacturer?

This is the current 4gb RAM board I have (which came with the laptop from factory):

A:Expanding RAM memory

As long as the laptop's MB supports 8GB of RAM, then a 4GB RAM module with the same specs as the current 4GB module should work.
However, suggest getting another Samsung module, because precedence indicates that problems can sometimes arise when using RAM modules from different manufacturers.

So I have a Toshiba Satellite L300, 2Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb Ram, yet my video capacity looks like this:
Is there something I can do about this? I tried finding some "Advanced Chipset Features" or "VGA Memory Size" section in BIOS but there was none. I can't even play right the crappy Counter Strike game. This is terrible!

A:Enhancing Video Memory on a Laptop (Toshiba S L300)

What you are seeing is typical for laptop video. Laptops are not game machines and nothing you can do will make it so. But I doubt that memory is the issue here but the low performance of the video system. High performance video, a requirement for many modern games, are contrary to the priorities of laptop design. The priorities are low weight and power consumption. High performance means greater power consumption and more heat. In a laptop with components confined to a small space with limited cooling facilities that is a serious problem. Laptops tend to run hot as it is.

OEM computers in general and laptops in particular tend not to have advanced BIOS settings.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista. Had it almost a year now. I have two USB ports on the right side of the computer. A couple weeks ago the two ports which are part of the same "card" (or whatever it's called when it's in a laptop) Kind of fell into the computer. I think the soldering must have broke or something and the ports kinda just sank in a little. The compute still ran fine for a week or so and I was just waiting to get the ports put back into place.
A few days ago My comp started thinking things were being plugged and unplugged into the usb ports even though they weren't. When it's happening it makes my computer run pretty slow. It seems to only happen while I am using a browser, either Firefox or IE.
Also when I start the computer I see a little tab in the bar at the bottom that says: "cfFncEnabler", and nothing else. It doesn't say error or anything it just says the name of that name. It's only there for about 2 seconds and then goes away.
I know it's a Toshiba file and is safe but it never used to pop up when my comp started before the usb issue.
Anyways when I go to see what usb device is being plugged in and out it says it is a "Ricoh Memory Stick Device."
I don't own one. Never have. Never plugged on into my computer. Why is it saying that? Is that the name of the usb port? I don't think it is because when I google it all I find are things about flash drives.

This has been occurring in the past 2 or 3 weeks. With Internet Explorer (7) on, after awhile its memory usage (as seen in Windows Task Manager) just gets larger and larger until it finally locks up, at which time it's not even possible to view Task Manager any more in order to end its process or shut the application. I have to force a shutdown to start using the computer again.

I notice that when I first open IE7, it seems to hover around 120 - 130 mb of memory, this with 2 tab windows open. Not sure if that is normal or not. Compare to Firefox with about 80mb, 3 tabs open. Last night after it had been open a few hours, it was up over 370mb, without much activity going on.

So first, I'm not sure if the 120-130 mb it uses at first is normal. So this part I'm not sure is a problem or not.

Next, the increase in memory over time really appears to be out of the ordinary, and this really seems like it's a problem.

What is going on here? I didn't seem to have this problem before. Not sure how to fix it.

Any info or help appreciated.

A:Like the universe, my AppData Folder keeps expanding & expanding

The Application Data folder under AppData is a Junction point, which is just a pointer to AppData. So when you click on Application Data you are actually expanding AppData, so you are in a never ending circle.

Confusing for sure. From what I understand, this was done to support compatibility with older software that expects an Application Data folder to be available.

Here are two very good articles on Junctions as used in Vista and Windows 7.

I'm a little puzzled here...

Just got a laptop, Gateway 6635b with:

IntelŪ Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) supports up to 128MB shared video memory
It came with / is currently set to 64MB of shared video memory... I want to expand it to the full 128MB, and I'm lost as to what I need to do... do I need to buy or is it purely an internal setting where I need to allocate some more of the memory to video...

I'm quite experienced with desktops but am new to laptops... so help is much appreciated!!

A:Expanding DVMT in Laptop

It's "shared" memory so it will use your main system RAM.

Look in the BIOS for settings, if there are none then it may just use "what it needs" at any time up to 128 MB.

You can first try this:
Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:

I wonder if there are any Techheads out there looking for a challenge?

I have a new Toshiba LCD HDTV that I want to use as the primary and only monitor for my Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I want to eliminate the laptops screen altogether.

I would like to know if there exists a connector or some other way to connect my laptops ribbon cable output to a VGA output and then to the HDTV via a VGA cable; or if there is a better way to go?

The screen on this 4year old laptop got cracked so I have to spend at least $75.00 for parts alone and if I go that way I might as well buy another laptop, or use a desktop with a wireless keyboard which will cost more than $100.00 to set up.

Besides, this seems like a kinda cool fix so if anyone has any bright Ideas, please respond.

A:Old Toshiba 200CDS memory problem

It may be a dirty or damaged contact - look very carefully at the pins where the memory fits and make sure that they are all OK. If you boot into the BIOS and reset the memory share for the video as low as possible you might get it to work.
Otherwise you may be right in thinking the motherboard has gone.

If the memory is in correctly and works it will show automatically. You don't have to do anything.

So, either it is bad, or is not installed all the way.

Is the original 64 removable? If so, you may want to take it out and put the new chip in its place to test it.

I am just wondering if anyone might happen to have any ideas as to why a Toshiba S4547 Notebook computer would have problems booting up with two 2 GB memory sticks. I bought both of them directly from Toshiba in 2008 and up until recently I have not had any problems with the memory at all. Now I am having a problem where it will only boot with one stick in, but not with both.

I thought that something was funny when my computer started locking up on me and my first thought was that it was something in Windows vista. I'm testing the memory sticks right now to see if I can find a problem with either of the sticks, but as of yet I don't have the results back as of yet.

I did have the motherboard replaced by Toshiba in 2008 and since then have not had any problems. I'm not really sure at the moment as to what could be causing this issue because when I take either chip and insert it into Dimm 0 it seems to work without a problem, but when I put the second one in on Dimm 1 it then doesn't seem to want to boot up to the screen showing the bios information at all and that is really making me wonder if there might be a problem with the motherboard.

I bought the computer brand new in May of 2007 and until I made a mistake with a memory card and screwed upt the motherboard that I had to pay for out of my own pocket I wasn't having any problems except for not having enough physical memory or hard drive space. A:New Toshiba Sattelite will not recognize memory upgrade

Hello and welcome to techspot!
Are you sure they are the same speed? if not then maybe you should check every stick to have same specs in order to work correctly, even tough some memory will work togheter when they have different speed (at single channel and slowest speed of the both) some will not work or will cause further problems .
If you don't know the speed of your memory and the label don't mention it, try to download cpu-z and on the memory tab it will give you the specs you need, do that with every stick and match them. Good Luck!

Hi, my father deleted 80+ pictures from our digital camera about 6 hours ago. I've since been trying to recover the pictures with all sorts of software but to no avail. I suspect it's because he took a couple of pictures after he deleted the pictures and they've since been overwritten. However, I have not given up the little hope I still have in recovering the photos so guys, please help me!!

The only thing some programs have been able to recover for me is a .tmp file called emdC3BC.tmp. I looked that up but nadah too. But one of the programs let me take a look at that file and it was made up of a lot of 0s. Does this mean there is NO WAY at all I can recover the pictures? These pictures are especially significant and I would really like to get them back. Any help guys? Please?

BTW, I'm trying to ask whether I can recover at least 50% of the pictures since my dad didn't take another 60 pictures to 'cover' the 60 old ones, if you get what I mean.

EDIT: After playing around with the camera, I suspect my dad formatted the card using the camera. Is it still possible to get the photos back?

Computer should be able to run both 2GB card in each slot and reconize about 3.25 to 3.65 of the memory, if it would run both cards at the same time. ** I did upgrade the BIOS from 1.6 to 1.9 as most of the blogs suggested-still won't recognize the 2nd 2GB card.

My laptop has plenty of RAM to give to the video card, and when I go to the BIOS theres no option for increasing the video ram whatsoever... Is there any way to do this?

It seems that I've been getting low memory issues ever since upgrading to Win10, but I'm not 100% certain if thats the issue. I thought about uprading to 16gb ram, but I'd like to know if theres some other fix for this. I can't multitask as I used to be able to. Sometimes problems occur just running 8 tabs on chrome and a game(Blade and Soul). The numbers just don't seem to add up.

A:High Memory Usage/ Low Memory Popup on Win10 8gb Laptop

Hello svader55 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

On the first impression I would have to suspect the problem is with the upgrade itself where you might end needing to see a Clean Install of 10. First however you can try a few things out to see if this is only a minor glitch. On an older 7 model by HP the upgrade seen last summer was a disaster waiting to happen which I had enticipated and saw an immediate clean install to follow! Of after going from the 32bit 7 Home Premium to 10 Home x86 I subsequently changed that with a second fresh install the 64bit Windows.

The initial tool would be the System File Checker you would run from the Command prompt(admin) option when right clicking on the Start button. You simply scroll down to that option to see the new window open up. At the dos like prompt you then simply type in "sfc /scannow" and press enter to get the tool underway.

The tool will then scan all the important system files and if finding one or more corrupt or missing will often be able to replace them but not all unfortunately from cab files tucked away on the local drive. With previous versions the rec for having the Windows dvd in the driver was made in case the SFC had to extract something from the Windows media there if the problem was more involved. This is why the suggestion for the possible need to see a fresh clean install of 10 is being made here.

Unfortunately buggy upgrades are all too common regardless of which version is being upgraded over. But you li... Read more

my laptop uses alot of memory. around 50%. how can i lessen the big usage? i have 2gig ram.

A:My laptop uses a big part of my Memory (physical memory)

This is normal for windows 7, it uses the memory in order to prevent un needed read/writes from the drive. This is actually something you want with a laptop because unless you have a solid state drive, laptop drives are traditionally very slow.

I don't understand why people get so upset when their memory is actually being used, that's what it is there for.
If you open a large program that requires more resources windows will unload nonessential processes from memory to the pagefile while that program is active.

Windows 7 is much better at managing memory than it's predecessors.
1 gig of used ram is pretty much expected.
This is why 1 gig is the minimum required per microsoft's specifications.

I am thinking of upgrading the memory of my laptop, An Acer Aspire 3023WLMi, which came with 2*256mb of PC-2700 memory. Does this mean that the laptop supports no more than PC-2700 or will it support PC-3200 and, if so, will the higher clockspeed make any noticable difference.

Thanks, Anthony

Here is the replacement screen for the Sony laptop(actually an LG screen):

What would I need to know in order to understand if this would work or not?

Also, here is the laptop w me holding up the screens:

A:Replace Toshiba laptop screen w Sony laptop screen? Same size. 15.6"

It's not the size of the display screen, these are all fairly identical. It is the connector socket and the rail screw positions that will bite you.

I suggest finding an exact replacement. If you can't find one on eBay then you certainly will at a store like this one:

can anyone give me any advice what to do please

A:toshiba nb 250 laptop

What did you do which you think might have deleted Win7?

You can determine if Win7 is still on there by booting into Startup Repair via System Recovery Options.
If they won't run via F8 Advanced Boot Options then Option 2 in the blue link shows how to run them from bootable Win7 installer which can be written to flash stick from Step 5 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot. Those steps also show everything that can be done to save unbootable Win7.

If Win7 is not reparable then everything you need is here to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 the licensed version given on the COA sticker on bottom of laptop, or under battery.

When power button is turns on for 3 seconds then light goes out..... Help!!!

Hmm... okay, this is an interesting one. Darn those cats, always walking across keyboards.

Okay, so what model is it? That's my first real question.

And if you haven't tried already, unplug it from the power cord, remove and reinsert the battery, then plug it in and try to turn it on. If that doesn't work, then the model number would be useful.

Hope I can help ^_^

Does your laptop have an Internet Security Suite like NIS, N360, KIS, McAfee installed? If so that would be the likely problem.

The product manufacturer's removal tool must be used to remove it from your system. Let us know which one & we'll find the removal tool if you cannot.

Alright so this is what happened. I don't know if these two problems are in sync, but I'll tell you guys about it anyways.

I was working on an autocad project while installing adobe audition. Once installed, I opened it. After a few seconds, it gave me the blue screen of death stating something about IRQ error. I rebooted the pc and it was fine and started up normally. I went home with the laptop and started working on the project again. My PC was in hibernation for a few hours today as well. While working on autocad again, my keyboard stopped responding. I tried to ctrl + alt + del, but it would not detect it. I was connected to IRC and when I typed something, nothing was showing up. No letters. My mouse however still worked. I closed out the apps I was in after saving and then rebooted the PC through start menu. After it shut down, it never came back on. I kept on pressing the power button but it is getting no response. The AC power cord is still working because the two blue lights are still on, however the power button is not working. Now I don't know if this has something to do with the IRQ error earlier, but it won't start up now.

It's a toshiba laptop satellite. I don't remember the exact model since i'm not at home right now. My warranty is gone now (just ended in february) so I tried to open the back to see if I can spot anything. I removed all the screws but it won't pop out. I think there is something still holding it down... Read more

My friend gave me his laptop to take a look at. First of its a Toshiba Satellite A215-S6804 System Unit Model No. PSAFGU-058002.

This is the description he gave me about what was wrong with it.

Ok, we had a program (blackberry manager) on the laptop to be able to use the blackberry as a modem, after my kids got ahold of it it had a missing driver for this program. I copied the missing (the file that it said was missing) driver from my computer and put it in the place that it originally was. All of a sudden the computer rebooted (by itself) and went to the screen you see

He has told me that when he does put in the recovery disk nothing happens, it will start to run it then will basically shut down and go to the regular screen

I am trying to recover / recover data from a neighbors' laptop. It will not boot normally or into safe mode. Using Hiren's Boot Disk I was able to recover some of the needed info from the system, but not all that is usually desired to diagnose a BSOD. It's OK if you tell me there is not enough data to diagnose the cause of the problem...

Symptoms -

Laptop was reported as 'broken'. When I tried to boot it, I was greeted with a continuous beeping that turned out to be from a stuck key(s). The keyboard was removed and replaced with an external keyboard / mouse. When trying to boot to Vista, system accepts log in, runs a little (startup stuff I believe) then BSODs. When I attempt to boot into safe mode, the system starts to load (I see the messages go by), it runs the crcdisk for a bit and then reboots and BSOD's. Maybe the disk is bad...

What I know or think I know:
OS? Vista - Spec sheet says it was shipped with Vista Home Premium
x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? Spec sheet says it was shipped with x86, but I am seeing x64 files - Processor is an AMD Turion 64
What was original installed OS on system? Spec sheet says it was shipped with Vista Home Premium, but I know she had the hard drive replaced twice.
Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? I found a product key on the system that indicates OEM

A:Help with Toshiba laptop

Considering you can't log in and load Windows because the password is unknown, and considering that computer is loaded with your neighbor's daughter's "debris" and unknown problems and would be impossible to clean out, your best option is to format the hard drive and do a fresh install of XP and start out with a pristine clean computer.

You'll need a full version XP CD. If you have a 98 CD or ME CD lying around, you can get away with using an upgrade version XP CD.

Download the attached file to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Next, click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove ProgramsIn the list of installed software, look for PuritySCAN By OIN, OuterInfo, OIN Snowballwars or similar
If you find it:
Click on it and click Remove.
Reboot and delete the folder C:\Program Files\PurityScan and also delete the folders of any of the programs you found in the Add/Remove panel. These would be located in C:\Program Files.
if not:
Download and run the Oiuninstaller
There is a tutorial for the uninstaller available
When the uninstaller is done, reboot and delete the folder C:\Program Files\PurityScan (if it's still there)

Double click on the folder, then double click on the .reg file within. Click yes to allow it to merge into your registry.

Greetings to all ....
My wife and I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite Pro C870D for our daughter. Because our daughter is not computer savvy, I have installed the applications she uses and have setup the internet connections etc etc.
The problem we have, as we are not familiar with Win 8 or laptops, is that this new laptop appears to have no method for "Shutdown" or "Restart". Or maybe this is a function that Toshiba have introduced?? I have discovered that the usual "Start" button is no longer built into Win 8 and to get the "desktop" I must click the "M/soft key" on the keyboard. As I understand computers, it is not very good to simply hit the on/off switch!
So, I am stuck with this problem and seek ideas, assistance or solutions.
Thanks to all who respond ....

I have a Toshiba laptop Model: Satellite M35X-S149 P/N: PSA72U-00T00U.

The problem I am having is that the LCD screen has turned white as though only the backlight is functioning. If I plug a monitor into the external VGA port I can get a display on the external monitor.

Has the LCD gone bad or is there something else I can check before shelling out 700+ dollars?

I am computer literate and a Avionics Tech so getting into the guts of the computer won't be an issue.

Thanks in-advance.

A:Toshiba Laptop LCD

The fact that it works fine on an external monitor means that its definitely the screen and not the built in graphics card, but lcd are not easy to diagnose a fault on. I have been experimenting with a faulty lcd monitor just yesterday, i think i have been able to figure out the problem with a logic probe but am waiting on parts to be sure that i have it sussed.

Is this an apple device or a window device? What is the make and model of the pc? And what is the version of the OS on it, be it apple or windows. Or linux, for that matter.

Move your mouse to the bottom-right of the metro (start) screen. A menu should appear on the right-hand side. Click PC settings and the "Shut Down" option will appear:

A friend of mine was asking for help with her toshiba laptop. The problem she is having is that her hibernate is set to three minutes before it starts up, and she can not change it. We both tried going through the right click on the desktop (she is using XP) and go to the screen saver tab, then click on the power settings. We then get a message saying this has to be changed through the Toshiba Power Management. We still try to change it in the microsoft way, and the boxes are all grayed out so we can't click on them to change at all. So then we go to the Toshiba Power Management under the control panel, and we don't see anywhere where we can change the settings. Anyone know where we can change the settings?

thanks if anybody can help

I have a laptop Toshiba, which is crushing every time I turn it on. I try to restore from checkpoint from safe mode, it does not restore, crushed. Could you please help me? I was trying also to recover the disk, but I cannot

A:Toshiba laptop

Hi there, can i get a little better description? What does it mean when you say your laptop is crushing? Are you trying to say it doesn't boot? or is it making a weird noise?

The question i usually ask people is, what is your computer doing or not doing right now?

So I do so and get this screen

"User name: rhonda.jarvis

How do I get past this and then get rid of it? Any information would help, thank you.

A:how do i fix my toshiba laptop

you cannot get past that, you need to reformat that computer. It obviously belonged to a company and was not correctly wiped when it was given to you.

plus i cant get into the set up.. i dunno what to do

if any1 has any ideas pls get bk to me thank PX

A:toshiba laptop

I believe that there is a keypress which will allow you to select boot from cd try F12 or F10.

If you can read the writing at boot up it should tell you the keypress for bootdevice select or to enter setup. usually F2 DEL for setup and one of the high Fn keys for bootdevice select.

At winlogon screen try holding down CTRL+ALT and then hit the DEL key twice, type in Administrator and try to log on with blank password,

if you can then save your data, delete your non working account, perform a full maintainance on your system including a defrag and then create yourself a new account. restart and see if it works.

Hello, I try to give out everything I know & everything I think that needs to be know. I have a Toshiba Satellite P35-S6112.I have Windows XP. Ok at first I was getting a fatal error everytime my computer booted up saying Toshiba power saver had a fatal error. I tried to google it for help & DL a Hotkey from Toshiba web page & rebooted the computer. Now I get a TCtrliOHook.exe Entry Point Not Found. Says in the box The procedure entry point EC_IO_SendCOMM could not be located in the dynamic link library TctrlIO.dll I can only press OK or X it out. Anyone have a fix for this, and why this happened? Also does this mean I fixed my power saver issue? That is the link I click on to Dl that Hotkey. Thanks for any & all help.

A:Toshiba laptop

Hi Artie78.That is the link I click on to Dl that Hotkey. That hotkey utility doesn't apply to your model. This one does.Remove the one you installed first (if possible) and install the one above. If you have a similar problem afterwards, we'll go from there.

Hi All!

Okay My mom has an old toshiba laptop it's a P series it runs on windows XP and it is 'burnt slap up' to quote Jeff Foxworthy. When I turn the computer on it goes through the toshiba screen then goes to a black screen that says Windows did not start succesefully we are sorry for the inconvineince. It gives me five options

Safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
last known good configuration
or start windows normally

clicking on any of the safe mode options makes text appear on the screen over and over again scrolling down that says
Mlti(0)Disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\Drivers (then it gives me lots of different driver names depending on the line I read from

The other two just take my through the windows start up screen the comp goes to black and we go back through the process again.

So can anyone help?

TIA for any advice or help

A:toshiba laptop need help :(

Somehow get ahold of an XP installation disk, and boot the computer to it. When you get to the prompt, press "R" to go into recovery mode. Once there, it should look like this:

Or it might send you to Windows, as in:

However you land there, type this:

"chkdsk /r"

When it's done, remove the disk, reboot, and report results here.

I have a Toshiba laptop that was upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7, 64 bit. It worked well for months.
now I get a message that says windows detected a hard disk problem. Back up files immediately to prevent information lost and then contact computer manufacturer to determine if you have to replace the disk. The hard drive was the original drive. I replaced the hard drive with the same model Toshiba hard drive and reformatted it. Then reinstalled my original windows 7 system on the second hard drive and it comes up with the same error message.
This is the second hard drive. I also ran CC cleaner malware bytes, super anti virus and disk check. it is working but the messeage keeps popping up at startup and the computer is now working like a turtle. everything a click on takes forever. Please help

I cleaned a toshiba laptop of viruses for a friend of mine, and wanted to do more than that, and decided to remove most of the programs that were running on the start-up of the msconfig. Now the laptop won't let pass the login step; it accepst the password and log-in, but then immediately logs off. I tried to start it on safe mode, but the result is the same. Also the operating system is bundled with the recoverty disk. Any help you can provide me will greately appreciated.

The only thing I can see that would help is a Repair Install with this you will need the XP cd.

hi there my toshiba laptop will not go past the windows 7 logo. it keeps on gettiing messed up and restarting. i think the cause of this error may be due to windows updationg. ive also tried system restore and all the others but its keeps on coming up with error and i dont want to reboot as im gonna lose a lot of work. can anyone tell me what to do. by the way im not a computer expert so i will need really simple instructions. thanks in advance

A:toshiba laptop HELP!

It sounds like you are not able to boot now, so no need to worry about a reboot.

You tried "last good configuration"? That should probably work if the problem is caused by a Windows update.

Otherwise, suspects include memory or hard drive defects. You may have some diagnostics for those in your BIOS (Setup).

I have a Toshiba laptop three years old. Its Windows (C memory used currently 148 GB out of 149 GB available. However the Windows (C memory of other computers for example in the library and in the college used only between 40GB and 60 GB even though they are bigger than my laptop. As a consequence I have problem because I have little memory left in my laptop. My laptop has some applications like all the computers but I think that each application uses approximately 1 GB. Hence I would like to know why my laptop used so much memory and how can I free memory.

A:The Windows (C:) memory of my laptop uses too much memory

Hello all!

This is my first post.

I got this Toshiba Satellite Laptop a few years ago and lately it started to slow down.

Videos and music are gittering and the laptop overall is just very slow. Even when I put it on, it takes a while for everything to load... I used a few spyware programs, but that didn't help.

So I reinstalled everything from scratch 3 weeks ago using the recovery CD that came with the laptop (everything is legit and it worked well. Yesterday, while the laptop was on, I was afk for about 30 mintues. When I came back and moved the mouse, it took about 10 seconds for it to respond (seemed like there was a glitch). I wasn't even on the internet nor in any app at that time - I had my desktop on. And from then on, the same problem started to happen; slow computer, slow boot, and videos gitter like crazy again...

I use Windows XP Home Edition, with SP2. I turned off automatic updates, because I don't want SP3 along with all its crap .
Other than that I have avg installed.

Any ideas what could be the problem and how to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Toshiba laptop isn't working

Boot from the Windows CD
But this time remove the Partition (you'll see the prompt to press L to delete)
Then continue setup
Do not manually create the partition
Do not format
Just continue, once the partition(s) is removed
