I have a hp psc 1350 v printer, trying to install on this machine; printer was installed on this machine in nov.2003 and worked fine until 2 weeks ago. at that time , printer quit working and in the control panel, printer icon showed up like a hidden file. tried to reinstall printer several times with no success. contacted hp support, spent several hours, spanning 4 days ,installing and uninstalling software, trying to install this printer. changed usb cables and same problem.other usb devises are recognised instantly. Hp support sent me a new printer, tried to install, same problem...no printer. so, tried to install printer on 2 other pcs and no problem, worked great (one machine has the exact same mother board as the problem pc).Hp says its a chip problems, problem started when i did a windows recommended driver update for via chip. CAN YOU HELP?

Uninstall the printer, through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, then go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and remove any left over HP/printer entries - look under HP, USB, all the categories. If HP gave you a seperate uninstaller to use then run that, they usually have one and if you look through your CD you might be able to find it hidden somewhere. Then unplug the printer and all other USB devices - except USB a mouse and Keyboard if yours happen to be USB.

Now still in Device Manager remove all USB hubs and then all USB Controllers.

Now go here: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=403 and download and install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers and reboot as request. Then reboot again after the USB controllers are reinstalled.

Now download the latest printer drivers from HP's website for your model if you haven't done so yet and start the installation. Do not plug in the printer until prompt to do so or until the installation is totally complete. When plugging in the printer use a USB connector that is not near the one you used before - they are usually in pairs of two.

If that Fails you can do a System Restore from Programs - Accessories - System to a date before the problems started and hope it works and doesn't recur.

XP runs better with more RAM - if there's nothing wrong with it then add it back in.

I got a pop up that was loud and wouldn't let me close it saying, "your computer has been infected call Microsoft" and I did because I turned it off and it was still yelling st me when I turned it back on. I gave the tech remote access and he said I had a tiny something trojan virus. Well I didn't fall for paying, got off the phone, held power button down and turned computer off. Am able to use it fine now with no more warning but am I safe after giving the remote access? I was on the phone for about 30 mins while he was going around to different areas in my computer telling me what all of the "problems" were.

It wasn't Microsoft, it was a scam.   I suggest you have a look here and create a new post asking for assistance to ensure your computer has not been compromised .

@ Dell's that is........... i researched as much as i could before contacting them, my issue being an application (Zcfgsvc.exe) (for my wireless connection) was running my processor at almost 100% almost all the time...i thought maybe a driver was missing...i did just do a total reinstall due to a hd replacement..
Anyway this is what he did....it was pretty neat..he took over my computer by remote access...went into my c drive from there he located my Zcfgsvc.exe file cut it and pasted it on my desktop....and said "there"....!!!! ya..thats it....leave it there!!!!...i dunno! ....it's not running up my processor, but, do i really have to have it sitting there all the time???....finding info on this subject has been really really hard...i can usually fix things myself, but this one was very difficult to find info on....at best i would get sites that would offer me a "reg scan" or reg cleaner.....is that what i need to do?.....any advice would be welcome...thanks...Joanne

...and told him to open calculator. I had him start on the Desktop. He first looks for the Start button, to no avail. Looking confused, he thinks for a second, the just starts typing "calculator" on the Desktop. After that doesn't work, he starts clicking around until he accidentally grabs the top of the screen and pins it on the side. He then clicks in the empty space and makes it to the Start screen. Then, he looks for calculator in my pinned things, and after no success, he then types "calculator" again and successfully opens the program. His first comments "well, it will take some getting use to, but it's no big deal." I then show him how the Start button actually is there, just hidden. He affirms that yeah it's no big deal, just will take some getting used to.

Later, he was watching me use my PC, and I downloaded the Wikipedia app and pinned it. After that, I put down the computer and played some Xbox with him beside me. He's very interested in history, so he picks up the computer, and goes into the Wikipedia app. He asks me how to search in the app, and I showed him how to use Charms. After that, he was using it as if he had his whole life. He searches some Wikipedia, then when he can't find what he wanted there, he goes back to Start (using the hidden button) and hit the IE icon (which sends him to the desktop) and uses it to search and find things. When I installed Win8 on one computer I need a H.P. printer driver. So I went to H.P. support/download did not find the needed driver so I called their Tech. support. A friendly support guy looked at my system and told me my copy of Microsoft Win8 bought at Best Buy was not a legit copy, also my system had been infected and they needed to remove my Win8 clean my system and reinstall Win8. made me a deal of a reduced price of $250US I knew this was not right so I begged them good buy went to Best Buy where I have good friends in the Geek Squad. they got the needed driver and printer works fine. Today my Netgear routher died, called Netgear to get my lifetime warranty. This also was a support in India guy said it would cost$39US to make sure it was the router I said thanks but no thanks. Took my old Netgear router back to Best Bye where I bought it three years ago and they gave me a new Netgear router. I needed setup help so called Netger as new user also in India guy was friendly looked at my system and helped me get it setup. Then he informed me my computer was under attack and my files were being read he could fix my system and protect my files for the small sum of just $85US. Once it is loaded it doesn't work smoothly as before. Not Responding message appears and everything stops working for a while. Scrolling also doesn't always work. I just installed XP on an old computer 2 days ago and ran all of 142 Windows Updates. As for your current installation, try running a Clean Boot. If this works then add one startup item at a time, restarting each time till the computer becomes unresponsive, then you know what the problematic program is. The card seemed to be working fine, but it would not connect to the internet. (it would hang on "aquiring a network address" then error out saying windows coudlnt connect..) I called Belkin tech support who tried a bunch of nonsence scare tactics to make me believe my registry was corrupt and that i had a virus. end result- pay them money and they would fix the issue, AND i would be protected for some amount of time. I believe it is 30 days, 90 days, 6 months a year or even 3 years. They offered to sell me a service to repair my computer and also to renew my "software warranty". This all seems very suspicious to me. The space issues was from too many picture files, which i discovered my husband had uploaded about 1500 pictures of a friends wedding. so once i got rid of those pictures, the space issue was resolved. After being completely frustrated, and a lot of research, I read to "copy over" my old user profile files from under "documents and settings" to the new profile i created.. which I did. I also did a disk clean up and defrag.. and evidently have deleted a bunch of things i shouldn't have. Got my computer in April and all of a sudden it quit loading up after a restart or shut down. So they diagnose it over the phone as a bad power supply. I send it in, they have it for a week and a half and sent it back today, so I turned it on and it has the exact same problem. I call them back and they say well it must be the motherboard. I can not believe that they didn't at least test the thing out to see if it worked before sending it back to me. But they could not do it until I had Verizon come out and see why my download speed was only 0.43. Seems like almost once a month, I get a download that totally screws up AVG. You get red warning messages, everything shuts off, cats and dogs moo, cows fly, etc. Anyway, you would think a company like AVG would have a better tech help section. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my version of AVG at least 3 times in the last three months. The first time it took their tech support 2 weeks to answer my help question and it had nothing to do with the problem. I finally fixed it myself by reinstalling it. I sent them my problem again as it just happened and they their tech site told me that its a weekend and the reply might not be answered till monday. I need to speak to a support tech in the US.  I was told I had this option when I bought my computer.  I am still in warranty, have a 3 year HP Care Pack.  I spent most of a night from 8:30 PM to 2:30AM on the phone with some guy that had me actually attempting to take off the side panel on my computer and move some plugs.  These people were rude, obnoxious and didn't help at all.  Now they want to come out and change my hard drive??????  They wanted me to do it at first but I told them no.  I run my home and business on this computer and i can't afford to be down for 3 days and lose all of the software I've paid for.  I don't have another computer to put the software on.  I need a United States technition.  I had them when I bought the computer directly from HP and used them, they were great and a real pleasure to work with.  They knew what they were talking about!!  Is there any way to get to one of these guys or girls again.  I had this all written down and cannot find the sheet anymore.

Hey everyone, and thanks in advanced for your help. I'm having some issues with this very website (Tech Support Guy). Whenever I access it, I am normally supposed to be logged in. I am, and I will attempt to access a forum, post, etc. Then the website logs me out and reverts back to the original color theme.

Once I've logged back in, I will access a post or what have you, only to have been logged out -again-! Then I will log back in, and my browser will redirect me to the forum so I may post something myself. Then once I post something I have to log back in -again-! (and this happens whenever I click a new thread or whatever...it will probably happen once I am finished typing this post).

Anyway, if there is any advice on how to fix this that somebody could offer it would be greatly appreciated since I love this site and enjoy helping the community. It's just a hassle to have to keep logging in every 10 seconds.

I am having a problem with my granddaughters laptop. The anti-virus had expired when she brought it to me (I'm an IT guy). She was getting popups about cleaning her laptop. It had Optimize pro, My PC Backup, etc. installed (she's 13, not sure if she responded to the popups or not.

I've removed what I thought was junk, installed Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware Bytes, but I can't get either of them to launch and scan the laptop.

Over this past weekend I have been getting calls from "Windows Tech Support". The first time the tech said my computer was sending out warning messages to them. I asked him how it was doing that I cannot remember what he said he asked "you are using windows OS correct?"
I said so I use a Mac he hung up when I said that. I just laughed and let it past. A few hours they call back. They have called several times and today they call claiming they are "Dell tech support" I do have a Dell laptop (How they know that?) They said my Dell was sending them warnings
bla bla bla. I told them I was running Linux they hung up. I laughed again and let it pass. Then an hour later they call back. Frustrated I told them I was not home and asked if they could call back. I am waiting on them to call back. I have made a whole drive backup with True Image. I am going to let them log in and I will be watching what they do. I got a text document on my desktop named "credit card info" don't worry all that is in it is
idiot typed all over it. I cannot wait for them to call. I am going to be very careful with this. I will be watching to make sure they don't harm my system. I could set up a VM and do this but don't really have time.

I have a friend who had a problem on her computer and she called her ISP Comcast for help since she uses their Norton anti-virus program. To make a long story short, she had to provide them with both her log in & email passwords and then they wanted to charge her $215 to clean her computer. That doesn't make sense to me - I'm not aware of any reliable ISP tech support asking for passwords. I know they ask for permission to take control of a computer and then supply a service number the computer user has to enter. Is this something new that an ISP tech support asks for passwords. She has changed her email password and I recommended to her to also change her log on password. It's the 'Remove the Windows has been Blocked Tech Support Scam'

However, unfortunately I did call the number, and when they wanted money I said absolutely not. Now, when I power up that PC, I get a pop-up that asks for admin password (not the Windows or BIOS popup). I tried command prompt, system restore, and reinstalling windows deleting everything but what was installed and personal files, and still the same popup requesting a password. I tried Esc, and cancel and enter, all not working.

Any suggestions? Any help at all greatly appreciated

If this happened to me, I'd restore from a recent full system backup.  If you don't have one, you'll probably need to do a clean install.

i m unable to open add/remove programs in the control panel.i tried out appwiz.cpl to open ,but there wasn't any response.

using my Internet Explorer 5.1 (Mac OS X) proxy server, typing in the Tech Support Guy website (www.helponthe.net) pulls up http://discussions.virtualdr.com/ instead.

But when I don't use the proxy server, helponthe.net works fine.

Any ideas?

Ok before I get into my problem, here's a little about my notebook - I trust that these details may be somewhat helpful in attempts to resolve my issue:

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 (RG364UA#ABA) with Microsoft Windows XP Professional
version 5.1.2600 (media center) service pack 2.0 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz version x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 current speed 1660 MHz

Let me start by thanking you for your patience as you read this. I contacted HP Tech support via chat numerous times to discuss general questions around some concerns I had regarding a "space issue" I was having. The "space issue" actually was caused by a surplus of photos I had in "MY PICTURES" which I thought I had removed after I burned them to a disk as well as video files located on another user profile.

Anyhow, I contacted HP support and was advised to do a "non destructive" recovery and was completely assured that this would resolve my problem and all files and applications would remain in tact unharmed. Well that was crap.

Once the recovery process was complete, all user information was gone. No user profiles existed on the login screen. I had to recreate a user profile. The recovery reverted everything to "factory settings", however all files were found on the old user profile which was located under "documents and settings" on the c:\ drive.

I bought an XPS 8900 four months ago. I had to call Dell tech support on May 25th because it wouldn't reboot without going to the bsd. It's got worse. I tried two brand new hard drives and a new windows 10. The operating system won't load without going to a new bsd. All the machine does is loop to a new bsd. I've spent countless hours with tech support and nothing is working.
I'm at a level 3 tech but I can't get a response, email or phone call. It's June 30th now.
What's considered a reasonable time before something is done. Not over 30 days. Thank god I have a laptop at home. The experience has been horrible. As of right now Dell still hasn't done anything and no one will talk to me.

Dell only provides software support for first 30 days from purchase so if this is actually a software issue...
It would help if you post the exact wording of the BSOD and maybe somebody here can help you trouble-shoot it...

Both people need to be running it. The client as a server, and the tech support person as a viewer. I believe it is faster than Remote Assistance, and is easier to configure (plus it works with 98/2k/linux/solaris). I've had some trouble getting it to work with some users and some firewalls, but overall, not half as bad to setup vs remote assistance.

Please complete all steps in the specified order.
Even if tools don't find malware, I want you to post the logfiles anyway.
Please copy and paste the logfiles directly into your posts. Please do not attach them unless you are instructed to do so.
Read the instructions carefully. If you have problems, stop what you  were doing and describe the problems you encountered as precisely as  you can.
Don't install or uninstall software during the cleanup unless you are told to do so.
Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during always the scan.
If you can't answer for the next few days, please let me know. If  you haven't answered within 5 days, I am assuming that you don't need  help anymore and your topic will be closed.
If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens, etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now!

I downloaded BuzMe Free and had call forward on busy activated last week. It shows online on the BuzMe site that call forwarding has not been activated although I've called the phone company and verified twice that it has. The phone company has also repeated the toll-free number to me twice and they have it right

When I contact tech support at BuzMe, I get an auto-reply. I've followed all of the steps, but when I reply to the message as directed ("If these don't solve your problem, email us at...."), but I keep getting the same auto message. Also, if I click the link in the email ("I've set up my call forwarding but I'm not being notified of incoming calls. Why?" - click here), but get a syntax error.

Has anyone had this trouble? Does anyone know what information I may be missing at the site that will help me solve this problem?

My grandfather got taken in by a Microsoft Windows Support Scam and I'm fairly certain that his laptop's got a bug that I can't get rid of.

What happened:

He got a popup (while using Internet Explorer and after downloading an Adobe update) that said there was a security issue and that he needed to call a number for Windows Firewall Service.
(I looked up the number and apparently other people have been taken in by this scam. Here it is on a Microsoft forum:

This problem with my USB flight yoke suddenly just happened after two years of smooth operation. I do not want to wipe my entire HD (of course this would fix it) but I am looking for a more practable approach.

My problem with my Inspiron 14R N4110 is: the laptop failed to boot, complaining disk error.  I tried the recovery disk, but it did not help.  The laptop is still in its 1-year hardware warranty.
I bought the laptop in US and I am in Canada.  Do I have to ship it back to US for repair?  Could Dell Canada repair it for me?
The DELL Tech Support online chat does not work for me, as I am in Canada and I bought my laptop in Staples of NY, US last summer. I tried to call 1-800-847-4096 (Canada tech support number), and after over 40 minutes waiting and 3 helpless agents transfering my calls around, the phone was eventually transferred to a deadend and cut-off.
The worst tech support I ever experienced!!!
I know this forum may not be the best place, but I do not want to waste my time on phone.  Is there a DELLsupport email address for me to contact the tech support by email?

Go to your desktop, and right-click. Mouse over 'New', and a menu will pop out. Click Shortcut.

Last year I had this ask dr. tech I can't quite remember the exact name and they were $100 a year for 3 computers. Well they just made their price$150 a year. I am trying to find less than a 100 bucks/year, but I can't seem to find a place. They were really helpful because they did everything from Microsoft Word to removing viruses. They were only chat service unless it was an emergency. Is there a 24/7 tech support that covers all those that I just don't know about. I was going to get geek squad tech support but, they seem to just be very basic tech stuff like installation and mainly removing viruses. I am not sure that is worth 100 dollars a year, though. So if anyone knows of such a service I would greatly appreciate it. I have to say that this message board has been ENORMOUSLY helpful and I wish it had a chat or something, so you could talk in real time:-)

I have, today, performed a complete os re-install on 2 x sata hdd's, striped for raid 0. I have been lurking here for weeks gathering all the necessary information from previous posts and there's a wealth of it. I have done xp re-installs plenty of times. So many times, in fact, I don't need to refer to the documentation when typing my cd key. RAID is a different story and I was always filled with trepidation before but decided to bite the bullet. I won't list all the members from all the posts but a uber, major, large and big thank you must go to Clintfan for his guidance installing Intel Raid 0 on the ich5r chip (mb p4p800E-Deluxe). Everything went without a hitch thanks to Clintfan's Tutorial. In closing, a suggestion: Clintfan, please contact Asus and suggest that their mb manual would benefit greatly if it included your offering.

I want to thank you for the post. I had nothing to do with you getting your setup going like you wanted to, but wanted to chime in on what you said to support your position.

Clintfan is as good as it gets when it comes to issues like you dealt with and all of us have learned from his expertise. have gotten a very very bad virus and tried installing all possible things to delete and nothing has worked in fact one of them (stopzilla) has caused my computer to give the the blue screen of death after the start up i turn on my computer and about 30 seconds after i get the blue screen of death

before you give me any antivirus software download remember that i only have appx. 30 second to get on the internet find the site and download it

i have tried on safe mode and i cant even go onto the internet

i have now tried this i turned on my windows vista home basic dell 6450 special edition computer and then press f11 right away i clicked advanced options and clicked resoter computer to an earlier point in time i clicked next and clicked the one from about 4 days ago before i had any problems now the problem i am having is i cant click the check box for recovering HP_RECOVERY (D or boot (x which i am not sure if is a problem or not
now i am kinda a computer guy and typically something with the letter x has importance (eg direct X, xp, and other stuff) i am not sure i could just not check it and still have my computer working fine PLEASE HELP!

Im new here but if anything has ''x'' for example Generic PUP.x ITS BAD! i suggest u try if can find the file folder in question and scan with McAfee and then either remove it if u can or just shred it. This probably didnt help much ...sorry : /
