Monitor light blinking- no picture

Q: Monitor light blinking- no picture

I have two computers, win xp on one 2400 box and win 2000 on the other 600 box, both are patched together boxes with 15 inch monitors. I inherited a 17 inch monitor that requires a double male vga cord (not hardwired?) It will bootup and remain on for about a minute then the monitor will go black and the off on light will blink and make sort of a clicking noise about once per second continuously. I tried a new vga cord no change? What is the problem could it be compatibility or just an internal fuse of somesort? Works the same way on both boxes, go figure?

A: Monitor light blinking- no picture

Possibly your video card? If you have a video card in that computer try swapping it out with your other system and test it in there, and vice versa (if you have a card in your other computer put it in the one that isn't working and see if it works). If you get the same error when you insert that card into the other computer then that would be a good hint. Or if you have onboard video, well......try putting in a card from another computer and see what happens.

The light on my samsung 793MB monitor keeps blinking and nother apears on the screen. I tried using a different monitor with this computer and it still dosnt work. I also tried a different video card and still light keeps blinking and nothing appears on the screen. I suspect it is ethier the cpu or the motherboard but I have no way of know unless i go to compusa/bestbuy ect, and pay them $100.
The computer was custom built by me last year and just stopped working. There were no recent hardware or software changes. Please help ive been trying to figure it out for over 2 months and almost forgot all the fans and lights and hard drive and drives are running.

Samsung 793MB(17 inch)
Ati 700X graphics

Enermax 470 watts power supply

and that all thats important

A:Green Light On Monitor Keeps Blinking

if you are getting no output onto monitors there are only two troubleshooting sources left:

1. you have a bad/loose cable

2. your video card is messed up.

Since you have isolated the monitor as not being a problem, the error is either in your cable or video card.

swap out with another video card to see if that is the problem

I'm helping a friend fix their computer monitor and I'm a little stumped!

They've got a Samsung SyncMaster 930B monitor with constantly blinking green light and no images displaying, just a black screen. Pushing the power button on the monitor does nothing, not even turn it off. Unplugging and replugging it also does nothing to the blinking light. The screen will not turn on, not even during reboot. The hard drive fan seems to be running and computer seems to be processing during reboot. I even tried hooking the monitor up to a laptop to see if it would work, with no results.

The computer itself is a three year old HP Pavillion a1340n with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. It has Norton Antivirus. Unfortunately, I cannot get in to see if there is anything else wrong with it without lugging another monitor over from somewhere else and trying to hook it up.

A:Help! Blinking Green Light on Monitor

If, as you indicate, you've tried it on a known working system and it still doesn't work then the most likely culprit is the monitor itself. If you can find a reasonably priced repairer then get them to fix it. It usually works out a lot cheaper, tho', to buy a new one.

This evening I decided to reboot my personal computer, which uses Vista. Up until this point it had worked fine, including earlier today. Every time I attempt to reboot it, it starts by bringing up its normal white screen about being a gigabyte motherboard. It then never shows any of the data involved with the reboot - instead, it goes straight to a completely black screen, and stays on it indefinitely. There is a blinking green light on the monitor. As the light blinks, there is a faint "clicking" or "flickering" sound.

I have attempted multiple computer restarts, adjusting the monitor cords. None of it has had any effect. There is no error message, at least not that I've had the ability to see. As I cannot see anything happening on the screen, I do not know if this is purely a graphics problem or if there is also a problem with the computer.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

I'm not sure if this is a new problem or not as side of monitor was not visible before - I just moved the pc to a new location so now I can see it. Anyway, it is a blinking light that sits right above the on/off button. I am not sure what the icon that accompanies the blinking light. it  is in the same location. The icon looks like a "can" - maybe it is something related to disk drive. Thanks for any thoughts.

A:Blinking light on side of monitor - Inspiron One.

ritkit03,The blinking light that looks like a "can"is the hardrive activity light.A hard drive activity light is a small LED light that illuminates whenever the hard drive or other built-in storage is being read from or written to.Knowing when your computer's hard drive is being accessed is helpful so you can avoid pulling the battery or unplugging the computer while the operating system is still accessing files on the drive, a mistake that can cause corruption of important files.A hard drive activity light is sometimes referred to as an HDD LED, a hard drive light,or a hard drive activity indicator.

Hi I made a thread yesterday regarding a minor PC problem I had while trying to install windows XP on my uncles PC the problem was solved thankfully.

I now have an even bigger problem of my own with my PC.
I turned my PC on in the evening and the monitor screen was blank and displayed a blinking orange light, the fan does come on. I doubled checked the wires to see if any were loose but everything is inserted correctly.

What’s weird is the PC that I was installing windows on yesterday was doing the same thing but once you turn it off and turn it back on it would be fine and load windows.
But my one is not even doing that, there is nothing wrong with the monitor has I have brought it recently and I also checked the PC using my brother’s monitor and the same thing happens.

Once I finished installing windows on my uncles PC I turned my PC on and watched highlights of a soccer game so it actually was working last night. But I have no clue as to what has happened?
Can someone please help me?

So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Dell Dimension E521 with Windows XP Home Edition OS. I have noticed that the light indicating the hard drive is being accessed blinks all the time. My old HP ( Win 98) didn't do this. Is this an XP thing or is there a problem? I have Norton security suite installed and use Adaware And Spy Bot. No viruses shown.

A:Blinking Hd Light

The blinking LED is indicating that it is constantly working. Norton security suite is what we call a resource hogger meaning it is taking the speed out of your computer. What you could is is download process explorer from the freeware link in my sig and try to determine what is keeping your PC busy.

Are you using P2P applications like Limewire?

So fine that I installed XP on it (figuring i would do this while I had it out and it was working) I hooked everything back up I can hear it trying to load then it stop. and it comes down to a blinking cursor.

By the way to add to this I wanted to make sure the new cd wasn't bad I hooked the old one up and got the same message. then i hooked the new one back up and the computer said to boot from the cd press any key. funny thing I hit any key and nothing happens but that darn blinking cursor!

If I'm following you right........You had XP installed on your hard drive while it "was out" of your machine?
This is most likely your problem. XP does an "inventory" of installed hardware on the machine it is being installed onto.
You have most likely wasted your time with that.
Was the drive formatted an "clean installed"?
If so you have lost everything anyway..........So

You'll have to start over.
Do you have the XP CD?

You'll have to be more specific. What's the model or serial number of the Laptop? Also what does the manual say the light is for?

If the battery is dying then the laptop shouldn't run very long on battery, maybe even just a matter of minutes before it shuts down.

I have recently obtained a laptop with W7 Home Premium installed. This is the first time I'm using W7.

My HDD light on the laptop keeps blinking, even when I'm not doing anything, just staring at the desktop. I don't notice anything on the performance, everything seems to run fine.

One thing I was immediately aware of is how W7 seems to run a lot of processes in the background; indexing, defragging, etc... I have turned these off, along with stuff like WDefender, Firewall, my hdd light still keeps blinking.

I have also noticed that googling this issue reveals lots of results with mixed replies. Some say HDD light is supposed to be blinking and/or this is completely normal, others say it might be an issue.

Just as I was writing this, I also downloaded a gadget for monitoring hdd: Drives Meter. Looking at the graph, the hdd doesn't seem to be doing much. It usually stays on %0,
just some little activity here and there... Yet the light is blinking on a heartbeat rate. Bear in mind, I am running Comodo+Eset at the background; however, for comparison, on my PC (running XP Pro) which also runs Comodo+Eset, there is no blinking whatsoever.

So my question: Is this actually a problem?

A:HDD light keeps blinking

Welcome to SF. The simple and quick answer is no.....not an issue to fret about. I would ask what Anti-virus programs you're running? And always a good idea to keep them updated daily and run them often....but that's just me.

I am experiencing some difficulty with my desktop computer. It is a Dell Vostro 220s, Windows XP SP3, 3GB ram, 250GB hard drive. A couple nights ago we had a power outage. I get up the next morning to find my desktop off (I usually leave it on). I go to turn it on and the power light comes on blue, like normal, and the fans kick on. However, after a second or two, it turns amber and begins blinking.

I googled what the potential problems could be and how to troubleshoot it. I'm assuming based on my search results that it is a power-based failure of some kind, typically either the power supply or the motherboard.

I came across this while I was searching: manual_en-us.pdf

I have a DELL Dimension 4700. I moved the "guts" into a new case. When I plugged in the power supply and turned it on. It turned itself on and off quite a few times, then came on and stayed on. It gave me a screen telling me some stuff had been done and to press "F1?" to continue normal startup. I had not yet plugged in the keyboard, so I turned it off, unplugged the power supply and plugged in the keyboard. When I plugged the power supply back in a light on the front began blinking and it will not power on. Any suggestions?

What exactly does this mean? Does this mean that the power supply is going bad?

What I miss with "7" is that the network icon does not show activity, even in the unscientific way that the old XP "two screens connected by a line" thing in the system tray used to do.

There may be a way to get "7" to do that... if so, I have completely missed it!

Not a deal breaker by any means, but there were times when something as basic and as visual as that would really help....

A:LAN activity (blinking light) ... how to?

This was discussed a while ago in a different thread, and one suggestion was to use Lan Lights which was originally developed for XP. In looking at the release notes, it has recently been updated to account for Windows 7 colors and to address large memory systems.

I have it running on my Windows 7 systems (32 bit) - I missed the blinking tray icon also.

A nice side benefit is that it shows a lot of other information as well, like totals, network activity, etc.

Answer Match 58.8% one of the 'other' forums, you know..., an OP about this subject was given all kinds of information and a lot of misinformation, including 'veteran' posters TELLING the OP to just live with it and stop complaining. Can you believe it? Sounds like some political dialog, instead of...

(I won't register for 'their' forum because the last time I did, a few years back, I was INSTANTLY hit with a wave of spam that didn't stop. Had to change my address.)

One poster said it was the system's 'heartbeat,' seriously.

Anyway, I was totally annoyed with my hdd led blinking constantly, and then I discovered a suggestion by Mike M999 in one of the 'other' forums that if you disabled the cd\dvd in device manager it might go away.

Instant cure for me.

But I'm repeating this here, even though someone commented with this solution in the general forum some time back, because what I noticed is that the device driver for this new model of LG CD\DVD Writer, so new, that its model isn't even listed on their web site.

The properties for the driver in device manager of this CD\DVD Writer shows that it was written by MS back in 2006!

I have three LG CD\DVD Writers that I bought over 2004-5 and there aren't any LG drivers for them now. I wonder if MS's 2006 driver would have worked. No big deal, as this new writer only cost $16+. Can you believe that we had to pay more than $300 for drives like this not too long ago.

So, I go to LG's support page and input my data and squeeze my email mess... Read more

Do you know if the problem only affected certain LG drives?

I have 6 of them spread across 6 computers, and IIRC, I think I saw this symptom on one of the PCs. But I reinstalled the OS for other reasons and the problem went away.

Customer service isn't what it used to be.

I'm trying to figure out if this problem is with my Modem, wiring or the ISP, I mostly have good service for DSL and get anywhere from 5 to 6.5 MBPS speed on testing it, but often get a DSL light on the modem that will start blinking and when it does that the computer and my Xbox lose connection, it could blink just once which is enough to kick me off an online Xbox game or it could blink for a few seconds to several hr's at a time, rebooting the modem doesn't help when it's doing it for a long time and I have replaced the filter with a high quality one and it made no difference, any thoughts?

A:Occasional blinking DSL light?

I might do the easy things first
Power on reset of the modem.Unplug it and let it be powered off for at least 2 minutes.Power it up.
If the modem was supplied by your ISP,see if they will replace it..
I had the same issue lastyear,.bad modem.ATT replaced it.
Also here is a pretty good tool to check the stability of the lineand links on the line.

First off, connect one computer directly to the modem (power cycle the modem after changing the connection), and do this.
Register at and run It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

wha can you tell me about the little red led light on my pc that blinks on and off. Someone told me that you can tell what th pc is doing by watching this light. I surmised that if it is blinking, that it is searching the hard drive for something. Does it go off or stay on steady when it is done searching. ?? Are there any other indications ??

A:windows xp blinking light

Sounds like the hard drive activity light.
Anytime the computer accesses data on the hard drive
the light will flash.
During times of high activity,it may look like it is on constantly.
During low activity,it flashes periodically.

I've had Windows 8 sitting around since February, and got around to installing it yesterday. So far all is well, except for when I shut my computer off the power LED will keep flashing. At first I thought my computer was just in sleep mode, but after hitting a couple keys that was not the case. Is there a setting some where that would cause this. I know it's a minor issue but damn that LED is bright.

My systems specs

As a test you could try turning Fast Startup off, Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
The Fast Startup uses a hybrid sleep mode and that may be why your power LED is blinking.

I have 2 external USB3 Western Digital external hard drives. A 1TB and a 2TB. When I turn off the computer, one plays along nice and powers down and the little white light stops blinking / being lit. But the 2TB external hard drive light continues to blink. Now the drive itself is not moving, I checked, no noises coming from inside. Now is this a known bug, should I be worried? The hard drive works ok, there are no other problems with it but I still would like an answer to this question. Now here are some specs on the drive in the form of a picture.

Thinking that the new ram might be the problem he took it out, put the old back in and it STILL wouldnt turn on, and the light still blinks. Apparently it happend last time he unplugged his computer, although i don't know why he did it then. He said that last time he set ti aside and later (week+) plugged it back in and it worked. What would the problem be and how could we fix it?

Nothing is going on. I had Comcast for many years, and one day I noticed the same thing started happening. It was right after one of their network upgrades. When I connected a machine directly to the modem and monitored the traffic with WireShark, I found it was ARP requests for a whole bunch of addresses coming from their local gateway. I called support and they told me that was normal with the new network upgrade.

I have a dell mini 10v that uses windows xp. week before last i noticed that my computer's power light was blinking red. what could be causing this problem? when I touch the charger, ever so lightly, or barely touch the pc, the computer will power off. after jiggling the wire to the charger, the power light comes back on, and is blinking red. sometimes i do not even have to touch the pc, it powers off on its own.

i then have to press the power button for the computer to start up.

i was told i needed a new charger, which i purchased, but the power light is still blinking red. i went to the power option and my battery is at 55% and does not change. what is causing this? do I need a new battery? i checked to see if my power option was set on stand by. it was and so i changed it, but the light is still blinking red. does anybody have any suggestions?

i was told t remove the battery for a few minutes and then reinstall, but i cringe at having to do that. the screws in the back are so small i am not sure i can even get the panel out, but if i have to, then i will.

what should i do? thanks for the help

I held the power button down and rebooted it and when it started up the fans were running and the light was still blinking. I tried a hard reset and everything and several hours later it started again randomly...A short while later it happened again and this time I was unable to fix the problem. I have already read that it a Bios corruption but I don't know what that means. Can anyone help? Thanks. I have already tried doing a hard reset, taking the battery and the plug out, pressing the windows key and b while turning it on. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Yo, this is my first post : ) I searched for this topic, but my question is pretty specific...

Yesterday i was on my computer and all was well, except my sound wasn't working. i don' thave a sound card so it's directly connected to my motherboard - that was annoying, but then my keyboard backlight kept blinking on and off and started entering in a lot of typing in my computer. They keyboard problem might be an isolated issue though cause it's given me problems before.

Well it didn't look like any immdediate danger so i went to sleep. This morning though, my computer wouldn't start up... the power light was (and is still) blinking on and off when it's plugged in. I tried switiching out a different cable, a different wall plug, and waiting a lot, etc. Well it's definitely the PSU - but i'm not sure if that's it.

I want to go get it repaired cause i'm a noodle amed choir girl with no hardware experience, but i don't know if i should just get the psu replaced or should i look at a new motherboard too? the sound wasn't working yesterday, and i'm not sure about the keyboard incident, but it'ss just started giving me all this trouble.

Also, my setup is really old, and kinda crappy. I have a Sony Vaio. I'm inexperienced with hardware issues so bare with me if some of this is not necessary. The PSU wattage is like 250, and seems to me, very weak. i dont' know the details about my mothereboard, bu... Read more

I recently purchased a Windows 10 tablet, everything else works fine except one annoying issue. I have a 64 GB USB 2.0 flash drive, which works well on my desktop PC (Windows 7). I also have another 16 GB USB stick (USB 2.0). Both USB sticks work fine on my desktop PC. However, when I test the full size USB port on my tablet, only the 16 GB USB stick worked. For the 64 GB USB stick, as soon as I plug it in, the USB light starts to blink forever.

While the USB light blinks, I keep hearing the windows sound for detecting new USB device, but see no notification messages. When I open DISK management or File explorer, I see no trace of this USB stick at all. I also checked "device manager", under USB controllers, I do NOT see any USB Mass storage there, and there are no unknown device in the device manager either. I tried re-scan devices, restart computer, clean USB registry ... None of them helps. Then I choose to show "hidden devices" in device manager, and now see a new "USB Mass Storage Device" appear under USB controllers, however the status is "not connected", even though the USB stick is plugged in and the light is blinking.

As I said, I tested the USB stick with my other computer and worked fine. I also tested the tablet's USB port by plugging in other USB devices, such as a 16 GB USB stick, a MicroSD USB reader with a 32GB MicroSD inserted, a USB mouse, etc. and they all worked fine. Now I am really puzzled. It does ... Read more

However, the LED indicator stays orange and slowly blinking (light is on for 3-4 sec then blinks and so on). And the battery percentage won't increase as well. I have looked into Lenovo settings but the Power Status tab says AC adapter is attached and the main battery condition is Good. Do you have any idea what is happening here or any suggestions?

I got the internet cut back on today after we paid the bill, and now the DSL light on my modem will start nodding out after about an hour of surfing. It'll blink off, then slowly blink back on, like when the modem is first turned on. It'll just keep doing this. It becomes unbearable and I have to turn it off again to "reset" it. I was having little blink offs before here and there before today, but they never really interrupted my surfing. The light would always come back on and stay on. They only hurt online gaming where a game I had would be dropped because of the little outages. Both these connections are wired.

I've had a technician come to my house months ago, and he checked the lines of the house and concluded that the modem might be bad. I've been through 4 service reps at AT&T today trying to get to the root of this problem. They had varying responses though. The last one noted that my modem signal is weak, and now once again, I have a tech coming down soon for a second opinion. Maybe I DO need a new modem, but my old one has never acted out this much before today. I'm starting to think maybe there's a problem outside of the modem.

Ok, over the past few months my DSL line light starts blinking every couple of minutes for about 20 seconds. This is extremely annoying. We thought it was the DSL Filter going bad again, as replacing it fixed the problem when it did this a year or two ago. We replaced all filters and we still have the problem.

However, I've noticed its totally fine during the day, but when it gets dark it starts happening.

I read somewhere motion sensing lights can cause this, we've had motion sensing lights since the summer and this only started a few months ago. We turned off the lights and the problem persists.

I'm guessing a neighbour has gotten some new lights that affect DSL internet, but I have no idea how to find out who it is and how to get it to stop.

Any suggestions would be great.

Hey everyone. I am having a serious problem with my wired internet connection. I have a wired connection and a wireless connection. My wireless connection works, and my wired one doesn't.

What happened was that I went to unplug and replug the wires from my router (long story) and now the router must not be working right because I can't access the internet on my wired connection. To restate, my wireless connection works.

I checked to see if I plugged the wires from the router in the wrong holes but I didn't (I think). Remember, ever since I unplugged and replugged the wires from the router, this wired connection screwed up.

Below is a picture of the router I have. The one in the yellow circle (labeled as modem) keeps blinking. What can I do to fix this? Would greatly appreciate it!

A blinking amber power light, usually indicates a power supply issue.
See page 14 Here:
What is the reading of the four Diagnostic lights, located on the front panel, or are they off?
See pages 15 and 61 of the owners manual.
The best method to check the power supply, is to replace it with a known working unit, to see if this makes a difference.
The power supply is a Dell proprietary unit, with a 24-pin and 20-pin motherboard power connectors, there are no compatible retail power supplies available.

Here is the documentary from Dell on it:

Somehow I knew this would happen! So I got my 1 GB of RAM I've been asking questions about and finally got it, my 512's are in separate slots and so I pair them together and so bank 1 is full, I go to bank 2 and put in my 1 GB, it fits snugly, I go to turn on my PC and NOTHING! All that happens is the little green light flashes on and off yellow. So, I go back in and I take the 1GB out, at this point frustrated. I left the 2 512's paired together, the PC turned on, or apparently so, the light was green, but, the monitor refused to do so. I put the 512 in the separate bank like nothing ever happened and it booted up.

When I booted up I got this "System Configuration Utilities" crap and I didn't really read it, it suddenly happened after this happened. Is this the problem? EVEN IF the 1GB was bad, it still refused to turn on even with the 2 512's, they had to return completely to their original spots before turning on. Do I need 2 512's instead of this 1 gig? Is there no problem with the RAM but my damn system not letting me change it, this "System Configuration Utility"?

Also, the RAM does work for this system or is supposed to at least. The seller had 4600 listed on the compatibility sheet, it met the requirements, I.E. PC3200, 184 Pin, Unbuffered DDR SDRam.

I have a new (two-week-old) XP/Pro machine with a hard drive activity light that seems to blink (indicating disk activity) at random intervals about every half second. And this occurs even if I've been away from the machine for a couple of hours.

1) I've check both my program/system drive array (RAID-1) and data array (also RAID-1) and both do not have "Allow Indexing Service to index..." checked.

2) The top CPU users are
- System Idle Process ... usually 99%
- nScIp.exe
- nSvcAppFlt.exe
- upsd.exe ... I suspect this is polling my UPS
- Task manager
- explorer.exe

3) The System Overview Properties indicate there are some logs:
\PhysicalDisk(_Total)\Avg. Disk Queue Lenght
\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time

Apparently these are updated every 15 seconds
... but I suspect these operations use cache and should not be responsible for the I/O

4) There are no shares with other systems

5) I did some searches on nScIp.exe. I am not, so far as I know, running an nVidia firewall. I am running Norton Internet Security 2008.

Any ideas?

My computer when I'd turn it on used to be a green light, but lately it's blinking very slowly and is a dull orange colour. Nothing is wrong with the computer itself though. I tried changing the PSU cable to see if that would do anything, but it didn't.
My motherboard is an AMD Asus F2A55-M LK2 and my processor is an AMD A4-5300 if that helps any.
I tried to Google the problem, but all I got up was info for a Dell PC and mine is custom built.
Does anyone have any ideas?

well i dont really know how to describe the sound but it was like a car trying to start up. i think its the same sound i hear when i turn on my computer. and theres a red blinking light on my pc, is this normal? my computer seems like its running fine. if any info on my computer is needed ask

A:weird sound, and blinking red light

Hard to know what the noise is. Is it something new or has your system always sounded that way? It could be a fan that has bad bearings and is noisy until it gets up to a certain speed. CDROMs can also be pretty loud.

As far as the light where is it? On the front of the case?

We have a Compaq Presario S6500NX and it won't turn on! We had a storm earlier so i am wondered if it is fried even though it was plugged into a surge protector.

When plugged in, the little green light in the back flashes and no amount of pressing the power button makes any difference.

Anyone have any ideas???

A:Presario with blinking light on back

Remove the power plug.
Hold the "On" button in for 15 seconds.
Plug it back in and try again.

I have an Acer Extensa laptop, with an AMD Turion 64 x 2 (1.9 GHz 2 x 512 KB L2 cache), with 2 GB DDR2 Ram. Upon startup, there is a blue screen for about four minutes, then is "OK". This laptop of mine is very slow. My HDD indicator is active for a very long time, up to 20 minutes after startup. I've used Lavasoft, Spyzooka, and CCleaner to name a few to help detect trojans and viruses, but cannot be detected by these applications I just mentioned. CA antivirus cannot detect anything after a complete scan. Is there someting that can be done about this, without having this professionally serviced in the shop? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Here is my HiJackThis log file if this is of any help:

A:Hard Drive light keeps blinking..

This will stop the constant HDD activity:

I did this right after purchasing my new pc a few weeks ago and have not had any problem like it since and can still use the search feature in Exployer. I also use File Seeker if I think the search isn't yielding what I want.

Now that it's summer, my T420 is back to not booting if it doesn't feel like it. As before, I press the power button, and instead of doing anything, the power light starts flashing, one second on, one second off, forever or until I get bored and pull the battery out for a second or two. I've gone through all the threads even vaguely related to it, which are full of all sorts of weird fixes that don't work for me  (I haven't tried the eye of newt ones yet), but none of them answers the obvious question: What condition does the flashing power light signal? It's obviously something that the firmware or hardware is designed to do under a specific set of circumstances, but so far no one (least of all from Lenovo) has mentioned what they are. I've tried taking it to the repair shop (MicroCenter), but the problem is that it never shows the problem at the repair shop.   It seems like if it's in a perfectly temperature and humidity controlled space for a long time, like your average repair shop, the problem goes away.  Or it used to, anyway.  Since I haven't found a set of specific conditions that consistently trigger the problem, I can't show it to the shop. There are a lot of things I like about the T420.  But I can't deal with a laptop that only works when it feels like it, and which has a problem that a lot of people share but the manufacturer isn't helpful with, so I think my next one (i.e., after I give up on this one) will ...

A:Modem light won't stop blinking/No connection

Check the wiring.

The modem should be plugged into the WAN/Internet connection, and the computer(s) should be plugged into the LAN/Network connections. Note that the WAN/Internet jack should be uniquely identified.

For future reference, the picture of the devices gives us very little info. Best is the exact make, model, and hardware version of each device, modem and router.
Let's see this from the working computer.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a new Dell XPS 13. When attempting to boot the front led blinks amber twice, then white twice repeatedly. The device never boots to the dell logo. This is with the AC plugged in and the battery test showing no issues.

A:Blinking white + amber light on front of XPS 13

Please list exactly your Dell model. Example: Dell XPS 13 9350
Secondly, I like to suggest you try the steps below
A) Disconnect all peripherals(printer, external drive, etc...) from computer
B) Power off computer
C) Unplug the AC adapter from computer and wall socket
D) Press and hold in the "Power On" button for 15 seconds then release
E) Plug in the AC adapter into the wall socket, then the computer
F) Press the "Power On" button. Hopefully your computer run normally

If those steps didn't work then I like to suggest you run the Diagnostic tool on your computer to scan for hardware problems.
A) Power off computer
B) Power on computer, quickly tap the F12 key continuously. You should be in the Diagnostic screen. Please list any error codes.

When I left home this morning, all was well with the Dell XPS400 was running smoothly, no indication of any problems. Came home this evening to find the PC basically lifeless, with only a blinking amber power light. No fans running, nothing. All attempts to revive failed. Disconnected power cord, cycled down, reconnected power.....nothing but that blinking amber power light.

Does anyone know what would cause this? Power supply? something else?

Thanks in advance.

A:Dell XPS400 - blinking amber light

You may have had a power surge during the day that possibly damaged the XPS power supply. Did you try unplugging it from the wall and waiting 10 seconds or so. then plugging it back in? Is it connected through a surge protector? If so, try plugging the computer directly into the wall plug

For some reason my computer just wont work. I just built it and installed all the drivers. All the parts are compatible and everything is up to date. When I try to install games it either says Empire Earth Catastrophic error, No other information is given. When I try to install Command and Conquer Generals it says that a file is corrupted. I havent tried my last game because im afraid of the results :). One thing my friend and I think is possible is that it is the CD driver. It is a benq x56. But then it why would it read the driver cds. Its not the game because they are major brands.

A:Can't install games + blinking orange light

hey ComputerBuilder,

try installing the games on another computer to see if you get the same results.
