Pavilion AGP only running at 1X

Q: Pavilion AGP only running at 1X

Hey, everybody. I'm running a Matrox Millenium G200 AGP card in a Pavilion 8590C with an Asus P2BVT motherboard (both old, I know, but well suited). The problem is it's running at 1X, when according to Everest, CPU-Z, Powerstrip, and Matrox Tweak Utility it should run at 2X.
I've tried the following : Format and install Win98SE : Install Intel 440BX/ZX chipset drivers : Install latest BIOS for video card : Install latest video card drivers : Remove drivers and video card and re-install.
The card works at speed on my other machine. I e-mailed HP Support yesterday with the problem, only to be told this computer only supports AGP at 1X. All the research I've done says this motherboard supports 2X. I even sent a link back to HP showing the specs, but they are not believing it!
First, can anyone back me up that this board supports 2X?
And if it does, any ideas how to get it up to speed?
I did check in the BIOS, but the only mention of AGP is a choice between AGP and PCI for the video card at boot. Perhaps it needs a flash of the original BIOS (Phoenix 8/23/99 Revision 1.05) or a BIOS update.
Any input is appreciated.

I have a zd 7020 that has performed flawlessly for 2 years until a few weeks ago. It runs hot so I have had it on a notepal by Cooler Master to help out with the heat issues. I also frequently blow out the dust from the internal fans and ports.

Now to the problem.

When using Photoshop CS2 it will just shut off with no warning. I have been using this program since I bought the computer with no problems until recently. I might add that this will also happen when I am surfing the net but very infrequently. The only change that I can recall making recently is removing one of the 256k ram sticks and replacing it with 1gb. That was done about 2 months ago but this problem has just surfaced within 3 weeks. I also have tried running Photoshop from my external drive but encounter the same results.

Thanks for any ideas.

My HP Pavilion dv7-1014ca Entertainment Notebook is running incredibly hot. The fan is on pretty much all the time. The BIOS is fully updated and I've vaccumed the vents and the fan. I keep my laptop on hard, flat surfaces, and yet at times it's almost too hot to touch. the entire bottom section of the notebook will be remarkably hot. Any idea what the problem could be? I've also had moments when my notebook shuts down without any warning for seemingly no reason. Could it be overheating?

What else can i do?

From what you describe - has it booted into Safe Mode with Cmd Prompt ?

If it has then run either a chkdsk /r (if it will let you) or a sfc /scannow should the reg have become corrupt or do you have any install disks that you can boot up with.

How did this start - had you shut it down incorrectly or had you recently downloaded anything ?

Hey y'all
I have a problem with my PC. Sometimes when I leave my computer on and leave it idle for a while and then come back to it the whole thing will be locked up. I can move the mouse around but as soon as I click something it will lock up and the time will be locked to the time when it had locked up. The whole thing basically locks up causing the green vista loading mouse circle to replace the pointer. The only way to shut it off is to hold down the power button for about 5seconds. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? I'm boggled by this.

Specs are as follows:
Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz)
4Gb Ram
640 GB hard drive
Nvidia 9500GS
Windows Vista Premium 64 bit.

Hi,

I'm trying to fix my friends computer but I'm at a stump. I've done everything I can think of but I can't seem to find the solution. I had to run a clean up because it was being used without an antivirus for a while. I took care of that and cleaned it up. I got rid of all spyware and spam using the Spybot and Ad-aware. It has an anti-virus now too and cleaned out all, thankfully it wasn't bad. I've also tried cleaning out the registry, used the disk cleaner, defragmented the HD, I even added 1GB of more memory just in case but it's still HORRIBLY slow.

It hangs, it can't do more than one function at a time and it takes forever to do the one function. I would greatly appreciate any help.

The stats on the comp:

HP Pavilion a818n
Pentium 4 CPU 2.93 GHZ
It went up to 1.49GB Ram
Windows XP Home Edition

If there is anything else that I'm missing, please let me know.

Hello, I have been having a problem with my hp pavilion dv6000. I wanted to clean out the fan, so I took apart the whole thing. It was open and I was still able to turn it on. After having it off for a night, it wouldn't turn on! What happens when I press the power button with only the power cable plugged in, is that the fan spins for a second, a few of the LEDs turn on, and then it turns off for a second. Then it turns off, then on. Just a side note, when the power cable is plugged in, the blue LED at the power dock stays on.

Hi there Filip12345,

Dissassemble your laptop once more and this time, check to make sure there's no loose connections. Re-seat the ram and hard-drive. Also, try turning on the computer with only the AC adapter plugged in...disconnect the laptop battery. Hope everything works out well for you and let me know how it goes.

Haven't used my laptop for last 45 days and have not installed anything new. Running W7, 64 bit. Just used it over last few days and it won't shut down. When I shut down it just hangs and shows screen that says "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 1 of 1". This can go on for hours. I have shut down manually with the power button which of course results in message when I start up again that "Windows didn't shut down properly". I thought that since I literally hadn't used the laptop or turned it on for about 45 days, that I was perhaps missing some important Windows updates, but when i go to Windows update via Control Panel and click on Windows Update to search for updates, it just "hangs" there as well, never showing available updates. Last W update installed was on 3/26/16 and laptop worked OK. Any ideas?

A:Pavilion dv6-1350 us running Windows 7 won't shut down

Mick70 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about problems with Win7 on your laptop and wanted to help. Regarding Windows Update appearing to NOT work in Windows 7 ...I continue to support a bunch of Win7 PCs, some of which were rolled back from Win10 because the owners disliked Win10 so much. But, I have noticed that recently, Windows Update has been performing really slowly on ALL these machines. The symptoms are that it searches for HOURS -- and does not appear to make any progress!OR .. it finds stuff, but then goes into downloading for HOURS ... and does not appear to make any progress! It's as if MS is forcing Windows Update on older PCs to behave badly to pressure us ALL into upgrading to Win10. Now, they wouldn't do that, would they!!Anyway, check for a Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads\ folder. This is where Windows Updates stores the updates it downloads and its working files. IF it exists, Windows Update is working -- even though you see no progress. Over time, the folder will grow until all the Updates have been downloaded. Then, it will shrink as the Updates get applied. When done, Windows should remove it. If it does not, you can remove the contents of that folder, but do not remove the folder itself. And yes ... updates are taking hours (or days!) when they used to take only a few minutes. So basically, there is nothing wrong with your PC. This is MS making our lives miserable ... I must say that I am stumped with this one...
I have an HP Pavilion DV8000 laptop, 1.8 GHz Turion 64bit, 1 gb of ddr Ram, ATI Radeon Mobile x200 graphics card running Win XP MCE 2005. The computer is very slow to boot and slow to do anything else. I have cleaned the old unused programs off of it, disabled all start up programs, disabled the MC service, Checked paging fle (which is where it needs to be), did virus scans with updated AVG ativirus in both safe mode and regular boot (clean), did Malwarebytes scans in both safe mode and regular boot (clean), ran a registry cleaner(Eusing), Defragged the hard drive, ran Disk Cleanup, ran several tests on the RAM and Hard drive for integrity, all have come back good. The hard drive is an 80gb with about half used. The system takes 6 min or so to boot up, and when it does get booted up, the video and the sound are both very choppy (youtube) and everything is very slow. Checking task manager for processes for all users, the CPU usage stays between 50-100%, but no process in the tree shows any real usage at all. Any ideas on this conundrum? Could we have a Motherboard problem and how would I go about testing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

My 2007 HP Pavilion dv 9543 cl notebook has two Hitachi hard drives; Windows Vista HP is currently indicated to be mounted on Disk 1; whereas, the original Disk 1 is now designated to be Disk 0. This inversion with respect to location of Windows Vista HP (32 bit) being on Disk O (original) is related to my installation of Ubuntu on a 40 Gb partition on the former storage disk 1 (followed by installation of the grub 2 dual boot software and subsequent installation of g-parted partitioning software). I was able to dual boot to Windows Vista HP or Ubuntu (various versions for several years, and because I eventually recognized that Windows Vista was working satisfactorily it did not bother me to continue such practice. However, I decided that I would update Windows if I could, but I didn't know how to remove Ubuntu properly.

Eventually, I attempted to rectify my poor decisions by erasing the Ubuntu partition; unfortunately, this left residual grub 2 traces of software on one of my hard drives and that is one of the reasons for my present predicament.

I had created a Hiren's boot disk prior to doing the above partition removal. I have never before tried to use this disk software, so I tried several options, none of which seemed to do what I thought I wanted to do: namely, fix my boot manager and restart the CMOS system so the file organization on each of the partitions would be put back in proper order as I am unable to open many files (see later test) on either Disk... Hello, starting on March 30, 2015, around 10:00 am, I began experiencing BSODs on my HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. The day before (March 29) had given me no inclination that I would be having this problem. To my knowledge, I did not update any drivers or make any software or hardware changes to my laptop. I ran a full Norton Virus Scan, in the event that a virus was the culprit, but the results of the scan ruled this out. The only driver mentioned in the blue screen was the iastor.sys driver. The crashes seemed to only happen after launching and running one of my computer games for around 10-15 minutes. There were only 2 or 3 instances of BSOD in which no game was running at the time, or had been running at all prior to the crash. I had tried this with multiple games, and I still experienced BSODs. As I mentioned, the previous day (March 29) gave me no inclination of problems, and in fact, the computer (and my games) ran just fine until I went to sleep that night (or morning) around 1:00 am (March 30). I do not remember dropping, hitting, or bumping my laptop in any fashion.

Yes, I realize that this is not enough information to diagnose my problem. But that is why I have come here. Whilst having the capability to use a computer with competence, I have little-to-no knowledge on computer software or hardware that actually runs the computer. I have scoured the internet in the past 24 hours trying to find something to help me, any sort of thread or post that would at least get me s... Read more

I have an HP Pavilion dv4, 500gb memory, about 5 years old. It was working fine up til about a week ago when everything started running very slowly, at least ten times slower than the day before. Firefox kept randomly pausing every five seconds or so, programs take a long time to open, etc. I reset the system to a save point from earlier in the week. That took about 12 hours for the computer to complete, and it didn't help. I thought maybe I picked up a virus, so I tried to run a scan. Malwarebytes didn't find anything and Microsoft Security Essentials has, as of this morning, been running for about 56 hours and has scanned about 300,000 files. I don't think that should take this long. I am not computer savvy, so I looked around on the internet and some pages suggest that my hard drive needs replacing. Is there anything else it could be? I have no idea how to port my operating system and everything over onto a new hard drive and would like to avoid screwing up my computer even more.
Anyone?
Thanks.

A:Windows 7, HP Pavilion dv4, computer suddenly started running very slowly

It sounds like a hard drive problem, but before replacing it, I'd want to do a few things. First I'd back up any data I didn't want to lose while I still could. Next I'd run chkdsk and let it check for and attempt repair of any bad sectors. This will probably run another 2-3 hours - sorry 'bout that. Finally I'd download disk diagnostics from Seagate or Western Digital and run them. That will give you a lot of good info including the SMART data which predicts when the drive will fail.

Good luck.

A:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

When I hit esc on boot and select the boot devices to boot from nothing is shown. If I let it just try to boot it give me a message that no bootable image on hard disk. It is a new hard. When I put it in legacy support mode it will boot either the USB or the internal DVD, but I want to use UEFI and the new APT format for security. What device can you buy so this laptop will boot something that is portable media on this bios ? It came with this format on the original hard drive with windows 7. Thanks,Buford HP Pavilion DV4-5113cl with INSYDE F39 bios from latest update

My HP Pavilion 500-205t was destroyed by a lightning strike. The HD is o.k. I have purchased an HP Pavilion 500-490 because the specs were very close. I want to use my 205t HD. Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is: can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? If I need the external HD enclosure, looks like aluminum would be best, but would like recommendation for one which would hold my HD.

I have a Toshiba Satellite running windows 7. I got the computer from my father and had to remove a lot of malware and games. I wish i could do a factory reset but i do not have any of the factory disks. It seems like there are a lot of processes running and the physical memory is almost always at 100%. Any help would greatly be appreciated . Thanks in advance.

A:Toshiba laptop running super slow. physical memory running high

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

But the 3 rundll32.exe are still running (I use win7 64 bit) and it won't let me view it's properties whenever I right click it in the task manager. And I scanned with kaspersky rescue disk and it found nothing.

Running Norton Antivirus 2005 pro OR AVG 7.0 pro?

Please post screenshot of your running processes.

The reason I need screenshots of your running Processes is because I suspect Norton AntiVirus 2005 uses less Memory than AVG 7.0 Pro.

If AVG 7.0 Pro uses more memory resources than Norton AntiVirus 2003 then IT IS TOO BAD TO BE TRUE!!!!

Guys I have recorded the followinfg services running when each of the 2 applications are running.

Norton AntiVirus 2003 (Not 2005 with updates).
----Service------------Mem Usage
NAVAPSVC.EXE________960 K
NPROTECT.EXE_______3,828 K
CCAPP.EXE__________9,576 K

AVG 7.0 Pro
----Service--------Mem Usage-----
avgamsvr.exe______13,108 K
avgcc.exe_________11,990 K
avgupsvc.exe______12,292 K
avgemc.exe________3,044 K
I am thinking seriously switching back to Norton.....

Please help guys....This drives me nuts. I read so many good things about AVG and so Bad things about Nortons (as a resouse hug) and this drives me nuts.

Thanks

I have two computers operating on a wireless network; #2 (Dell Dimension E510) is currently hard wired to the router. Print sharing is enabled on #1 Dell 4600 running Windows xp service pack 2 (or 3), Pentium 4 processor 2.66GHz/512MB RAM. When I try to utilize the printer from computer #2 it is unable to open the printer. Right clicking Properties on the printer returns the message that the properties cannot be displayed because the print spooler is not running. MSCONFIG returns that the print spooler is running and when I go to CMD>NET START it also reports the print spooler as a started service.

Note: I thought that I upgraded to service pack3 last week but windows still shows sp2, so I'm not 1oo% sure which it is.

What is the next step to solving this problem? Thanks in advance

Recently my computer has started booting up very slowly, and after it boots up the CPU or the fan (not sure which) stayed revved up. If I check the task manager idle system process is running at 98-99% all the time. I know this is a measure of how often the CPU is idle, but I don't recall it always being so high.

If I start the task manager as soon as my computer lets me when I boot up all my CPU is going to idle system process for some reason, instead of booting things up.

Its been awhile, but I seem to recall that some problems can make it look like idle process time when in reality something else is actually wrong.

I get random lag when I open a program. Firefox for example, will load just fine, but then I try to click something and the computer momentarily freezes. Its not just Firefox though, it happens when I open up "My Documents" or Pidgin or anything.

I ran Microsoft Security Essentials, Malware Bytes, and Spybot S&D, all of them came back clean.

I would post stuff from Belarc Advisor here, but it keeps hanging on the "Checking local network of this computer." part at 54%.

I'm not sure where to go from here. :(

A:Computer Suddenly Running Slow - Random Hangups and Fan Running

I finally got Belarc to respond and finish.

EDIT:: I can't attch the .html file. How do you all prefer it to be presented?

Hi there, thanks for viewing this.

Recently, my internet explorer 7 and firefox has been running quite slowly. After googling a bit, I found out that this problem could be caused by the iexplore.exe virus.

Many iexplore.exe was running in the processes tab of the Windows task manager when my internet browsers were not in use. This may have caused the slowness.

a few weeks ago my niece was playing on the internet, and probably clicked on some add. since then i've been having problems with weird things opening by themselves and applications downloading without me clicking on anything. for a while it would freeze my computer, get rid of the start bar, and open up something called HDD Defragmenter? (false antivirus) i'm not very good at getting rid of viruses, so i backed up my photos and such on an external harddrive and created a new user after i deleted the infected ones. since then i haven't had anything download themselves except internet explorer...which keeps opening in the background. also, probably unrelated, google links redirect me to advertisements 9 times out of 10. here's my DDS log and attached file you all asked for

So far....

1) Downloaded SURT, ran fulling with no reported errors

2) Ran SFC with no reported errors

3) Get no windows update error codes...it just runs and runs and runs with no results

4) CBS.zip attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have installed superanti spyware and that found some stuff to delete, Im quite computer illiterate, the internet is running at about 4 or 5 for speed and it should be 8 according the internet provider, they said everything is fine from their end, however I may have programs running on the computer that shouldnt be and are slowing it down, Im not sure if this is a spyware issue, virus, program not needed? Under the windows task manager the system idle process is 98 under the cpu, everything else is 0, I dont know if that makes a difference?

I pulled everything out and dusted it all off with air duster, tore the cpu heatsink/fan off and took it all apart and cleaned it all out and reassembled, cleaned off old paste and applied new silver thermal compound, remounted heatsink on to cpu. placed screws on new case (heres link for it BTW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133154 ) and installed the mobo/cpu. From here on out, its self explanatory, installed all drives and stuff, spent HOURs wiring it up professionally.

Heres thwe bad part, i go to start it up, it beeps once which is a good thign to hear when starting up your pc, and i got into bios to look at temps while i troubleshoot my fans in the case making sure all are working properly and flowing air like they should be, including the cpu fan, all looked good as far as fan flow goes. less then 10 seconds after getting into bios and quic... Check the legs of the CPU. One got perhaps bent or broken off.
Make sure the mobo is not shorting agains the mounting studs. Do these all coincide with a mounting hole?
Does that mobo require the extra 4-pin power-plug as for Pentium and AMDX64?

Ok, for the past few weeks, I had been getting a message that said a resource was missing, but I stupidly never wrote down what specifically was gone. It said that it could not open the Dell Dock because of it and windows explorer was running slow at times and restarting periodically. It did this for about three weeks, then, two nights ago, the computer froze, so I reset it, and it started on the green bar then black screen loop.

I tried running it in safe mode, no dice, and all other alternate boot options. It would hang up each time. Finally, I was able to get the system restore wizard up, this was earlier today, and reset the system to how it was 4 days ago. It actually opened Vista, but in low res mode and everything is painfully slow, except for the internet, which runs at normalish speeds.

Are there any possible causes or solutions for this?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Now, I cannot run any installed programs and cannot install/run any existing antivirus programs in my computer.NEW UPDATED PROBLEMAfter restarting my computer, I am no longer able to access Windows in normal mode. I can only run windows vista in safe mode. I have no network access as the virus is blocking all networks and I cannot access the internet from safe mode. Hello,

My problem is the following: after a boot up, my laptop can find itself in two states, seemingly at random.
- runs fine: the laptop runs as it always did, no slowdown or anything.
- runs slowly: as the name implies, every program runs slowly, from Firefox to video games (offline, so it's not just an internet connection issue).
As far as I can tell, which state the computer will settle in is set at boot up or wake up from hibernation mode. I've never seen my laptop go from "runs fine" to "runs slowly" while I was using it, even after running all day long. Same way, if it's in the "runs slowly" state it's noticeable as soon as I launch any program just after boot up, and it doesn't get better or worse after using it all day .
Another symptom I noticed recently is that as soon as I launch a game while in the "runs fine" state, I can hear both the CPU fan (shortly) and GPU fan (continuously) kick up a few gears, which I take to mean both CPU and GPU are put to use. This has always been the laptop's behaviour, even before this problem appeared. However, when playing a game while in the "runs slowly" state, the CPU fan will remain quiet and the GPU fan will only go a bit faster from time to time before returning to quiet speed. It seems as if the whole computer gets lazy and don't want to put any effort.
I first took notice of this whole behaviour around the end of March/beginning of April of this year, though in retrospect the "runs slowly" state may have shown up on... Read more

Hello Everyone,

I am a sahelian eagle, based in here somewhere in the African Sahelian region! I have just made my first steps with Vista (Ultimate x64) on a brand new lovely HP laptop. Before that I was using an XP running yet other HP computer. Thr first days, I could directly connect the two using a crossover cable and access the Internet the old computer. But after I installed TuneUp Utilities 9 and ran some optimization processes that changes the default settings (I accepted all the recommendation by the Utilities), I can no longer connect to the two computers, and I can't see wich parameter(s) is/are responsible for that change. Can someone please help me solve this problem? Warmest thanks!

A:More able to directly connect an XP running computer and a Vista x64 running one

Love to help I think with Tuneup utilities you are able to do a registry restore. You will need to do this and hopefully that will solve your problem...
Good luck...

I can ping these two machines yet on my laptop, in my network places i cannot see my home pc or my laptop in the workgroup. On my home pc i can see my home pc in the workgroup. All firewalls are off that I know too.

Is there a setting on my laptop stopping it joining the workgroup. Because it is not in the workgroup, i guess that is why my home pc cannot detect it.

When i search for computers nothing is detected, yet when i search for "laptop" it finds it in my workgroup. Yet no symbol is showing.

I want the connection purely for file transfer.

Static IP address are ok, 192.168.0.1 for hom pc and 192.168.0.2 for laptop.
Workgroup is same on both machines.

Really Really Frustrated now!

Can anyone please try to help.

PS. My laptop was setup for a network at my office originally, but I don't see how that matters?

A:Networking home pc running XP pro with laptop running Win 2000

This has to be the most asked question,

First get identical accounts on the XP and 2k, such as user with a password of user.
Turn off simple file sharing on the XP machine, its Explorer \Tools \Folder Options \View drag the bar to the bottom and untick simple file sharing.

Ensure both machines are in the same workgroup, this is found in XP by right clicking my computer on the desktop and choosing properties then choose computer name then click change, by default XP Pro and 2K use "Workgroup" but XP Home uses MSHOME for some strange reason, to change the work group in 2K right click my computer choose properties, choose network Identification, properties.

Then share the folders you want access to by opening explorer and right click the folder and choose sharing, follow the tabs

reboot the PC's and that should do you.

I always check by doing this

start run "\\machinename\c$
this attempts to connect to the admin string of the PC, this share is always present and means you dont have to worry about sharing individual folders.

If this works congratulate yourself for being clever and have a large Rum and coke and a Cigar.

If not post back and someone cleverer than me will help..

Win 8 seems to have made it more difficult not easier! I can't make heads or tails out of the instructions to create a network that will allow access to files back and forth between my Win 8 Desktop and my XP driven LapTop. Would you direct me to a simple step by step process describing how to do what I am trying to accomplish?

A:How to share files on Desktop running Win 8 from Laptop running XP

Short description for Windows 7 and 8 file and printer sharing:

Go into the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel or from the Network icon in the Notification Area. Your network must be designated 'Private' (or 'Home' or 'Work'). Click on Change advanced sharing settings. In the Private or Home or Work section you can configure File and printer sharing, Public folder sharing, and Password protected sharing.

You may want to change the Workgroup name. To check it or change it right click on "Computer" and select "Properties."

You must uninstall or properly configure any non-windows firewall (security suite).

A wizard way to enable file and printer sharing on XP:

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a PC with Windows ME or Windows older than ME.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard (but make sure it is not set to “No Exceptions&#8221. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders (or drives) or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... . When sharing a printer, acce... Read more

I jsut reformated an old PC, and have installed XP with SP2. I have wintasks 5 pro trial version running while I attempt to track down this problem

I have 2 processes in taskmanager running on my pc

UCEHGO.EXE
IXJWGDTBRAJHTYSVDSSSU.EXE-26E575D5.EXE

These files do not exist.

I have logged on with the admin account, set explorer to show all system and hidden files, checked thru a dos prompt with the attrib command to list in case it was hidden there.

There are .pf files of these in the C:\Windows\prefach directory, which I have removed but retain a copy on a different hard drive.

Winstasks will take care of IXJWGDTBRAJHTYSVDSSSU.EXE-26E575D5.EXE if I run it and remove it from the startup. With UCEHGO, I try and nothing happens in the program and the process stays put.

I have checked thru the registry to see if there are any entries relating to these 2 processes, and cannot find any.

I have also tried to do a search on the web for those 2 files but do not get any results.

Does anyone know what these files are or how I might be able to remove UCEHGO.exe from starting on bootup?

I apologize that I don't really know what to say here. I am a retail merchandiser and data collector who works for several companies and I receive all my work through the company websites. My computer runs windows vista basic and I prefer IE. I have tried chrome but didn't like it and use firefox a bit, but one of my companies requires IE. While my computer has always run slowly, I think my current problem started after going to watch a few episodes of a tv show I watch that weren't at my normal site. I took me nearly 10 hours to watch two 1-hr shows and the video kept restarting itself. I noticed then that my cpu useage is at 100%.

I have run avg, ccleaner, and malwarebytes over the past several days. Today I found out about roguekiller and ran that. Something about my security settings in IE keeps blocking downloads so I had to download roguekiller using firefox. The site that mentioned RK also mentioned this one. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks in advance!

I've got an odd problem here. On my Compaq Presario CQ60-615DX, it runs fine as long as it's plugged in. Once I unplug it and run it on the battery, once it gets down to about 87-88% or so, the screen just goes black, but doesn't shutdown and I'm unable to do anything except remove the battery and restart. My first thought was a battery problem, but the fact that it keeps running even though the screen is black makes me wonder if that's the case or not. Anyone else experience this or any ideas to help?

A:when running on battery, screen goes black, but laptop is still running

You laptop is due to the power plan settings, refer to point 1.
Normally, the laptop can return to display mode upon moving the cursor &or keyboard being press.

1. Go to Control Panel, select Hardware & Sound; select Power Options.
Select the Power plan with button marked, and Change Plan settings to view on the options.

2. If you are using main power, best is to remove &or unplugged the battery.
If the battery is always plugged in, while using main power, this cause the battery to failed in the long run.
Unless you need to charge battery, then plug in the main power.
If battery is almost 100% then remove it if you use main power.
I had one laptop (from my bro) who always battery was plugged in and also use main power.
The battery was now useless, cannot hold charge.

I noticed this issue a little while back. As I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.
A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background.
I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

I really hope this makes sense.. it's getting frustrating.

A:Two desktops running at the same time. Background programs running.

It sounds like you have a virtual desktop.

This is not something that could 'just happen' in Windows 7. You would need to install a third party program to do this.

So if you did not install anything that might add virtual desktop capability, or this is not a situation where you inherited or obtained this computer from someone else and are not quite sure what is installed on it, then I would suggest first running virus and malware scans to start.

A:Why is my core 2 duo e6300 cpu running at 100c and my 667 ram running at 333mhz?

DDR2 667 = 333.33 x2 = 667MHz. It is showing the true speed of your ram, but as it is DDR2, it is "double pumped" to an effective speed of 667mhz.

Also, your temps are too high. You should be in the 60c range. Check in your bios to see if it is also showing high temp readings there. It could also be an out of date bios, but if your temps really are that high, you'll want to reseat that CPU with some new thermal paste.

Computer got infected by some nasties. The hard drive is constantly chattering and running the hard drive and system even when I am not using it. I've run superantispyware, kaspersky, malwarebytes. DDS file is attached. I've tried to clean it up but I am at the end of my span of knowledge. If I run hijackthis there are a lot of bizarre looking%%% files found, lots of BHOs, and the hosts file is probably corrupt. Have used ccleaner and revo to clean out old junk files. COMPUTER IS ***VERY SLOW***. This makes me sad. Thank you in advance for any help!!Also, have a lot of registry errors. Thanks again.

Found the the above service was running all the time and I only occasionally use SuperSpyware AntiSpyware as a standalone scan. This is solely as backup check to my Antimalwarebytes Pro. May I stop and disable it, and how would I remove it entirely?
Thanks
Glenn

A:!SASCore service running all the time, not running Superantispyware?

In SAS Preference turn off Automatically Start with Windows, and Automatically Check for Updates.

Then in msconfig>Startup and >Services (after Hiding all MS Services) uncheck SAS Core Service. You shouldn't have anything checked there anyway except your AV, any sync, gadgets or stickies.

Hi! I have a Compaq laptop, and lately it has been getting hot pretty quickly. I noticed the fan seems to be constantly on, and while I could be wrong, I don't think it has always been constantly running until fairly recently. I feel like I would have noticed. lol

Anyway, my laptop is about 2 1/2 years old, Windows Vista, and I use vista manager. I have AVG, AdAware and Spybot for security. I have Photoshop cs5 and Adobe lightroom, but the problem was there before I had these. I have completely reset my computer to factory settings, and the problem is still there.

I have a lot of running processes, but I've checked them on Vista manager and on pcpitstop, and only have removed the ones that I know for sure are not important.

Any ideas of what I can do? My computer lags as it heats up, and I don't want it to die! I use it for school and work, and my photography work.

If anyone wants to take a gander at my running processes, just let me know. I would be more than happy to take advice from those more knowledgable than I.

Buying a new laptop is NOT an option, by the way. I've treated this one very well, and I really see no reason why I couldn't fix it and extend it's life. Thank you in advance!

Hello
I would be very grateful if you could possibly answer my question.

I have a new modern computer AMD 2.0 XP running Windows XP Professional.

If you close a program after running it and it appears to be closed but the task manager shows that it is running, what does this mean?

Does it mean that there is something wrong with the Software of the running program or is it a Windows System Problem?

I wrote a very easy program compiled in VB6 which after running I closed and does not show up in Task Manager. Everything is obviously ok.
However my other much more complicated compiled VB6 program after being run and closed, shows up as running in the Task Manager?

I just want to know what this means please.

Is there something wrong with the program I have made?
When you continue to open and close it, more icons of the running program are seen in Task Manager.
But none on the main normal bottom windows task bar, where the start button is.(Which I presume is correct)
Thanks

Gary.

A:After Running and closing my VB6 Program. Task Manager say's it is running?

Sounds like you have an active window somewhere although it is hidden. Put debug.print code in all of your form.load/unload events and run it in the debugger. Make sure you having matching unloads for each load.

Also, callbacks (like timers) may be the culprit. What does your application do?

Hi all,

I have a Dell Dimension E310, service tag G84HF91. It is running Windows XP Professional in a Raid 1 configuration.

I managed to get a virus, so I booted into safe mode and ran ComboFix.

ComboFix prompted that it detected the presence of rootkits and needed to restart. After the machine restarted I received a BSoD while trying to go into Safe Mode. I attempted a normal boot and receive a BSoD as well. When booting into safe mode before the BSoD it pauses on loading Mup.sys.

My first thought was to attempt a repair install however I'm not sure how to go about doing that with the Raid setup. I just want to get the machine booting properly and I'll deal with the virus after which is why I chose this forum not the security one. If it's in the wrong place please move it for me.

I appreciate any and all input ahead of time. Thanks!

Hello, recently I have noticed over the past month my laptop begin to run slower and slower. It is now so slow and lagging to the point just surfing web pages takes quite a long time both for the browser to respond and for the page to load. I have also noticed that the fan is running extremely loud on the laptop. I have ran an avira anti virus scan but it found nothing.

I run Windows 8.1 64 bit OS.
My laptop is an HP Pavillion and is only a little over a year old.

Is it safe to stop and disable that service?

A:Windows Defender Service running when it is not running!

Install the recommended Microsoft Security Essentials
which will turn off Defender.

Otherwise you can turn it off if you're satisfied with your AV.

Hi,
im running a Win98, and im sure i have a virus or spyware on my computer, because it is running so slow, and when i go on the internet, i can only get on it for a limited amount of time, then i have to restart my computer so that i can get on the internet again, because something is stopping me.
Anyway, i can't find out what it is, i have run norton antivirus and spybot and adaware.
So does anyone have a structure on the Win98 OS (a folder/file structure of what it is like when it has been rebuilt) I don't have the time to rebuild it, so i will have to go through each individual folder, and a structure would really help!

I was referred to this forum because apparently I posted this in the wrong place. I apolgize for that. However regardless , I am so annoyed at this situation you have no idea. I ran adwcleaner, and all the tools I ran in the past from another problem I had with booting up. Still the pesky problem persists, once in a while I get someone talking on my computer with ads, once in a while... IE wants to know if you want to leave this page or stay on it,, Update Flash player.. and more. I run the cleaning tools and within a couple weeks there it is again.

I cannot find IE anywhere on my system so where in the world is it coming from.. When I upgraded from windows ? Did it get burried someplace?

Anyhow I want it off my computer..

This is an Azus Laptop Model U52f
I am running windows 10 for a few months now
I use Chrome or Firefox as my browser
I have a pentium 4
and my info is on my profile as to what motherboard etc.

Thank you

A:Running windows and cannot stop IE from running in background

Have you set a browser as the default browser? That's my first thought as to why you keep seeing IE mentioned. The
talking ads are a different issue and will likely require use of tools not allowed in this forum to find and remove.

Here is a link for info on setting Firefox as the default browser in Windows 10. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see this:
Make Firefox your default browser | Firefox Help

Use the Settings app in Windows 10 to change your default browser
Alternatively, you can open the Settings App from the Windows 10 Start menu to set Firefox as the default browser:
Go to the Windows Start menu and click the Settings icon.
Click System, then choose Default Apps on the left pane.
Scroll down and click the entry under Web browser.

Click on Firefox in the dialog that opens with a list of available browsers.

Firefox is now listed as your default browser. Close the Settings window to save your changes.
Note: To change your default to another browser, see the support documentation for that other browser.

Sometimes my computer crashes when using Adobe flash..

I have ran several Antivirus and spyware malware programs over the last few months..
such as Trend Micro...and Avira, Malwarebytes and Spybot...

My Disc is quite full..so this may be one of the reasons why I am having problems...
BUT I have had it almost full in the not too distant past and it had ran reasonably OK..
and I did not have the problems with yahoo or sending emails from yahoo...

sometimes the computer just freezes up completely..and I cannot turn it off as usual..

It runs reasonable if I only have a few webpages open..and usually after I have reloaded it.

Dear All,

I encountered a problem. A windows service I am running on my machine seemed to be running, ie started, however, actually it was not running since the processes were not outputted as planned.

Can I do some form of error tracking to counter for this problem?

Thanks for your help and time

A:Windows Service appeared to be running, but it was not actually running

Bookmark Windows SysInternals for some great tools.

Download Process Explorer for Windows v10.21.

Process Explorer will give you a colored process tree and be able to help you find out more about your processes both server and application. It is better than Task Manager and gives you a lot more information and control over your processes.

Explore and use Process Explorer, and discover and use the other tools at the website.

No DMP files included in upload please try this method
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.
