hey i am fairly new here and not sure for the procedures used. But my familys problem is that everytime they do a "google search" and click a "search link" it gets redirected to various weird AD sites and whatnot. As this is a main computer in the household, i would like to rid myself of the virus or malware, whatever it may be.

My question is where do i start?, i have read over other threads here but most of the replies were geared toward the forum author, as i could not try these options myself.

Where do i start? any help is greatly appreciated as this is a family computer used by 4.

thanks :)

Ok so heres the run down and i hope im putting this in the right place... a few weeks ago my computer randomly shut off while i wasnt even on it. The computer immediatly booted back up and i just thought nothing of it. Come to find out my computer suffered some damage from the random shut down.. since the incident my speakers have been crackeling and my CPU usage has been JUMPING around like no tomorrow. i recently just installed 4x gigs of PC 6400 memory weather that makes any difference. im also experiencing LONG boot ups.. it seams that my computer doesnt recognize my keyboard and mouse quick enough for me to even pull up bios and do a fresh install.. Which is what i really want to do cause i hate the **** on my computer.. if we can just fix it by doing this i will be quite happy but since the keyboard doesnt work at boot up i cant get into bios and boot from disk.. with that being said for some reason it wont let me do a refomat to a restore point.. it begins and then jsut stops, loads back up, and says it failed... that kinda makes me feel that it might be viral.. but im not really sure.. i also tried updating my audio drivers which are Realtek and that did nothing. My friends believe its my CPU but im not to sure.. and i ran a disc check and it said everything was fine after taking 2 1/2 days to finish running. i am quite puzzeld if anyone can help plz assist me in my troubles.. i hope i gave enough info

This is a little more of what my computer looks like..

A:[SOLVED] Ok Plz Hlp me out this is driving me crazy!

Hello & welcome to TSF ,

what version of windows are you running ?

i know that you are running XP but is it 32 bit or 64 bit ?

you see 32 bit will only reconnize 4 gigs of ram / memory max

& 64 bit will handel up to 10 gigs of ram memory

now 32 bit will do all kinds of crazy things when you have to much ram installed

now what type of keyboard & mouse are you using (USB) ? wireless?

if so then hook up a ps/2 corded keyboard & mouse for the usb drivers do not load until the hard drive gets loaded for that is where the drivers are installed to unless your system is designed to boot with motherboard usb drivers to wich will be built onto the motherboard

Hey there, recently I updated my KIS 2011 to KIS 2012 and everything was working fine for three days or so. But now I cannot access programs like Paint, Notepad, Windows Calculator. I used to get this message evertime I tried opening these programs"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You my not have the appropriate permissions to access them". It was weird that windows does not give me permission to access these programs. Recently, i discovered that Kaspersky was the culprit! It has placed these programs under 'Untrusted' category! There were these programs under that category - "windows shell common DLL" and "Microdoft UX theme library". I recently downloaded a theme from here -http://www.windowsxlive.net/products . Could that be causing the problem? Please help me sort this out.
Thanks in advance...

Well, I think this goes under the heading "Should've fixed it when it was wasn't so broken." My drive won't read anything. Computer is a Toshiba Satellite; the cd/dvd is a Matshita UJDA710. I have autorun enabled but when I insert a disk, the yellow light flashes and that's about all. Same when I go to my computer and click on the e:\ drive. I do see the small disk icon occasionally but can't pull up a list of files. The only error message I've received (and haven't gotten it lately) is "Please insert a disk....." The computer tells me the device is working properly. I've run the Toshiba troubleshooter ad nauseum. I also downloaded the regedit solution provided by Bob Cerelli but that didn't do it. I did have Roxio at one time and uninstalled it. Regrettably, that was long ago and I can't remember whether the problem developed at that specific time. My CD use was occasional for a long while. It's only recently that I've had a real need for it (naturally!!). Would be grateful for anything you can do to point me in the right direction. Many thanks!! PH

I get this from ISP server, Internet Explorer, and programs that I use in my PC such as Adobe Photo Deluxe, etc.. Is it possible that I might have a virus?? I mainly get this when shutting down the PC or trying to bring up a program.

Hey there, been searching for a few days to try and find some answers to the problems i am having but found them no where so decided to try here,

as it would appear by the things i have been finding, a lot of people are having the same problem as me with firefox in that it has become unbearably slow. I start it and it just crawls along, i can just about open up websites like this, but when i open up facebook or something similar, it dies on me.

I tried making a new profile, have tried fully uninstalling it, have tried installing chrome (which wouldn't even let me open up a page before it crashed). Now if i start the pc in safe mode, then it flys through even faster than normal. I created the new profile and it worked fine and within a hours it stopped working again, which confuses me as i didn't bring any of the things i had installed in firefox with it when i xfered the data.

this all started happening when i updated firefox, it is driving me mad!

all virus scanners etc are clean, im contemplating playing about in the registry and looking what i can do. (before anyone suggests it, i have a degree in computing, which makes this much much more frustrating =\)

So please anyone got any suggestions?

Edit: just tried starting firefox in safemode with all addons disabled, as thought it still runs slow

New guy on the forum seeking for help to solve BSOfriggin"D...

My system info:

OS - Vista x86 Home Premium SP2
What was original installed OS on system? - Same as above, apart from SP2
Is the OS an OEM version? - Yes
Age of system (hardware) - About 2 years
Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? - Re-installed about 1 month ago
CPU ? Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 @ 3.00 Ghz
Video Card ? ATi HD4870
MotherBoard ? Asus P5K Premium WiFi Black Pearl Edition
HD - 02 500gb SATA II Seagate drives
Power Supply - Corsair HX850W
System not overclocked.

I have been experiencing crashes and BSOD's for about 1 year, but it's kind of intermittent. It can keep running stable for 5, 6 months then all of sudden starts to freeze and/or BSOD everyday. Then, it become stable again. It crashes/freezes at will, playing games or browsing internet.

Due to that, I'll list the things I've done so far, unfortunatelly, without success.

OS: I have formatted HDs several times, including installing on different HD.
Video Card: Replaced a 8600GTS for HD4870
PSU: Replaced a Seventeam ST-550P for Corsair HX850W

And that's it. One quick note: System Health Report was generated on Portuguese.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A:[SOLVED] BSOD driving me crazy...

It appears that this driver isn't installed:

Quote:

O driver de dispositivo para RTL8187_Wireless n?o foi instalado

Is this deliberate? If so, why? If you would like to keep it uninstalled, then I'd suggest removing the device from the computer.

There is only one memory dump included in the uploaded files (it's from 11-02-2010).
There are 2 from August in the MSINFO32 report that blame your Rtlh86.sys driver (the driver for your wired connection).

Please uninstall:
- Daemon Tools
- Catalyst Control Center
- Comodo Firewall Pro (I suspect that this is the actual cause)

You have 2 Network cards installed. Is there a reason for this? I wonder if they are conflicting with each other. I would remove one (or disable it in the BIOS).

I'm afraid this may be a bit long, but I must explain what is going on and what I have done so far to correct this problem. My system is old, I had it custom built in 2009. I'm a big gamer and at the time was playing WoW, but have moved on to other games. Here lately while I'm playing I keep getting the BSOD, quite regularly. So I started researching what they might mean. It's usual only 2, one says Page_Fault_In_Nonpage_area and the other says IROL_Not_Less_Or_Equal.
I have learned that a lot of BSOD are caused by out of date drivers, so I am on a mission to update all my drivers. That is working out for me, but will be time consuming since the program I'm using won't let me update but 2 drivers a day, but I'm patient.
I also know that my problems can be caused by registry errors, malware or spyware and I have programs for all of those too.

Hi,
Please help as this little problem is driving me round the bend.
My Laptop has decided to send me round in circles when I log onto Ebay.
It is not an Ebay problem as I can access all areas of it on other pc's/laptops using my logins.
When I try on my Laptop it allows me to log in ok but when I try going into different sections of it it keeps bringing up the sign in page and won't accept my details???
I am presuming my Kaspersky is doing this but have no idea where to start.
Many thanks in advance for help rendered

I'm not sure if this is a Windows problem (I have Win 7) or an email handler issue. My dh has XP, we're on a network and I'm the only one with this problem.

I constantly get duplicate emails. It doesn't matter if I leave them on the server and have them deleted in a few days, or if I don't leave them on the server and they're deleted immediately, or whether I deleted them and have read or not read them or emptied my deleted email folder. Nothing matters. I get duplicate emails and they're in quotes.... sometimes. And not all emails are duplicated. Somes days they are some days they aren't. Some days it's all of them in the am some days it's a couple of what I already received.

I can't delete these unless I drag and drop to the deleted folder. Also, the duplicates don't open a second time, it just shows an error, hence I drag and drop. This has gone on since I got Windows 7 in Aug. I had an HP laptop that had Vista that crashed in July and just started to have the problem there. But my dh and I are on the same network and I'm the only one this happens too.

I'm about ready to throw it out the window. Any ideas? I have fixed/changed upteen settings and nothing works.

Just yesterday my internet began dropping for 5-10 seconds randomly every 10 minutes or so. I figured it was my router because it's a Linksys and they are notorious for these types of problems (especially the G54 which I have). I connected my computer directly to the modem and tested it again; same problem.

I also called my ISP, everything seems to be fine and dandy over there and they apparently didn't really feel like being helpful.

It's driving me nuts because when I'm in a game the spike is just long enough to drop me completely.

I have no second modem to test out as well but the one I have is fairly new (bought it early this year). All this leads me to believe it's my computer. I ran a virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it detected a few minor threats and removed them, yet the problem still persists.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

First, let me say thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read this, and also sorry for cross posting, but I'm getting no love from the "Hardware" forum or the "Malware" forum. I am beginning to suspect that my posts are in the wrong forums, as they've had no replies.

Anyhow, please see this thread for more a more detailed explanation of what I have done to try fix this:

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/8...affecting.html

In essence, for those who'd prefer not to click over, I have 40% idle. Task Manager shows nothing using the computer processor, but both CPU gauges I have on my gadget bar show use at 40%, also RAM use is at 23% (but I'm not sure if that is high or low..I have 8 GB of RAM so that seems high, near 2GB). Also, I notice the computer is acting a bit more sluggish. I noticed this yesterday after installing my wireless keyboard and mouse I got for Christmas, so I assumed it was associated with that. However I have uninstalled everything related to the wireless keyboard and mouse, and lo and behold, I still get high CPU use at idle. Thanks for the help knowledgeable ones!!
One thing I don't know is if there is anything on my E: or F: drives that may be causing problems. C: is obviously where everything installs to, but I dont know how to scan the other partitions and drives in my computer. So that may also be something to address.

Also here are my specs...

I'm having some major audio problems that I've been attempting to fix for the past week. I've exhausted every possible solution I can think of, so now I'm desperate. Maybe someone can help me? I don't know what else to do. Since I have no idea what the actual source of the problem is I'll just start listing some things.

- I recently upgraded my graphics card and power supply. I had this sound issue both with the new card in and the old card in. I didn't have it previously. Old card was a radeon new card is a NVIDIA GTX 570.

- Just about all windows sounds work. Internet explorer sounds work.

- Google Chrome has no sound whatsoever, and doesn't even appear in the sound mixer.

- Firefox has no sound but DOES appear in the sound mixer.

- Opera sounds work as long as NO AD PLAYS before the video. If an ad plays before the video, no sound on either the ad or the video. Opera shows up in the sound mixer...most of the time.

- Most games appear to have sound. But for some reason the launcher and client of a game called League of Legends does NOT have sound and does not show up in the sound mixer. The actual game once launched does. I tested multiple other games, they all seem to work.

I've tried multiple things. Reinstalled the sound drivers, reinstalled flash, reinstalled browsers, reinstalled/uninstalled everything I could think of. No dice. The fact that on Opera only ads causing videos to not have sound seems telling...but I&... Read more

A:Solved: Sound issue - Driving me crazy.

Wow, I finally fixed this after a week of stressing me out. I'll post my solution here in case anyone searches for this.

I installed something called the "K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool" version 5.1.2. Once you have it installed, click fixes, and check "Fix broken sound". (Which is now grayed out for me because I already did it.) It then proceeded to do some magic tricks, I clicked yes for everything, and wala, much to my surprise, it actually worked. This is where I downloaded it.

Good luck for anyone else having this issue.

Hello All,

I seem to have a major problem and see different post for solutions but did not know if my problem is different and did not want to double post. Anyway, I keep getting a little red window to the right bottom of my screen from ESET Nod32 saying that I have a win32.adware.virtumonde and that it will be deleted after restart.

But it does not get deleted, in fact when I restart the computer, the Desktop keeps blinking on and off and my icons and toolbar disapear. So I tried going to task manager and running the process explorer.exe and that sometimes stops the problem, but every single time I restart the computer, it does it again... I think it has to do with this

VIRTUMONDE thing that is driving me Nuts!!! My computer is slow too now...

So I decided to do the hijackthis log and post it here so someone could please help me. Its probably my little brother and his questionable sites he visits. I guess after I fix this problem my computer is going to have a password for me and a parental control for him. Any help would be great. Thanks alot.

Hi all, new here. I don't know where to begin so I'll tell you from when I tried to uninstall Nero 11....
I had the trial version of Nero 11 on my laptop and realised that it took up over 1gb of space, and it was about 6 months past the trial date, lol. So I tried to uninstall it and omg what a farce! I could not uninstall it using the control panel> add/remove programs so I downloaded one of those programs which could help do it for you. I think it was CCleaner, or something like that..

While I was trying to uninstall Nero 11 I decided I was going to do a disk cleanup, and because I was in a clean up mood I decided to do a defragmentation (however you spell it) because I had recently read that it's good to do them at least once a month. It was my first time in 2/3 years of having my laptop :/

Somewhere down the line I think the defrag crashed so I restarted my laptop and googled how long it usually took. Some said 1-2 hours so I decided to do it when I went to bed, and leave my laptop on running doing the thing...

I woke up and my laptop was off (fgs lol) so I wasn't sure if it defraged it...

I then noticed my laptop froze,so I had to hold the power button and turn it off like that..

I started up again, did the same thing. Restarted and repeated for about 5 more times before I used my brain and started up in safe mode. I don't know if it's because I started up in safe mode or not but it seems to not crash..

I've googled to see wh... Read more

I have a pc that I got this past September, and starting this morning, the fan on my EVGA 7300 GT video card is making constant humming noises, like the revving of an engine higher pitch as it speeds up and lower as it slows down. I called both the PC manufacturer and EVGA and they said they would replace it, but I would have to send in the video card, and wait two weeks for processing until they would send me one back. I am a college student, however, and I CANNOT afford to lose use of my pc for two weeks. I'm not really willing to buy another video card at the moment (again, poor because I'm a college student).

I took out the card and inspected it to see if the fan was catching the aluminum housing anywhere, and there are no obstructions anywhere to be seen. I even thoroughly cleaned it with some compressed air.

In a few weeks, I could probably afford sending the video card in, but not right now - so my question is this - would unplugging the fan on my video card cause any severe increase in temperature where I would need to be worried? My case is a Raidmax Sagitta, so I have the large fan in the back, the smaller one on my AMD processor, as well as the other quite large illuminated one on the side panel. Would this be enough air flow to keep it at a safe temperature? *BTW, there are no temp gauges on the pc*

Also, would not acting on the noise immediately cause some other damage? or is it only an annoyance?

Thank you very much guys!

Hi

I have Windows XP and Win98 hardwired to a D-Link 604 router sharing files and printer no problem. (Upstairs) The problem is I have a NetGear WRG614 router hooked to Lan Port 3 set up as an Access point with DHCP disabled, security disabled, transmitting downstairs to a Dell Inspirion Laptop (XP)which hooks up and surfs the internet just fine, I am typing on it now, but will not see the 98 or XPmachine upstairs. Why does this hook to the internet but not share files? The upstairs machines both access the internet and share files and printer with no problem, the downstairs machine hooks to the internet no problem but no shared files. Upstairs machines see each other but not wireless machine and wireless machine sees itself but not upstairs machine. Do I need to set up the wireless machine with a manual IP address? I seem to have problems with the wireless machine when I do that. Downstairs problem machine shows IP 192.168.1.101 upstairs shows 192.168.0.102 and 192.168.0.103. It would seem easy to just change the problem machine to 192.168.0.104 but that does not work.

Hello

I am using Word 2003's outline numbering to give section (i.e. chapter) headings within a technical document. My problem arises when trying to set up a different numbering scheme for appendices within the same document.

Ideally I would like:

1. <Heading 1>
1.1 <Heading 2>
1.1.1 <Heading 3>
1.2 <Heading 2>
2. <Heading 1>
2.1 <Heading 2>
... etc
==Section Break==
Appendix A. <Heading 1 - Appendices>
A.1 <Heading 2 - Appendices>
A.1.1 <Heading 3 - Appendices>
A.2 <Heading 2 - Appendices>
Appendix B. <Heading 1 - Appendices>
... etc

The outline numbering is working fine in the main body of the document - that is until I try to set-up the styles and numbering for the appendices.

Once I set up the <Heading 1 - Appendices>, based on Heading 1, and customising one of the available outline numbering templates, all of the numbering of the previous sections disappear.

So...
- can there be more than one Outline Numbering schemes within the same document?
- if yes, where have I gone wrong?

Any help much appreciated!

Steve

Welcome to the forum.

Try going to "Format">>"Bullets and Numbering" from the menu bar and Uncheck off Continue Previous List . For the second list and see if that fixes it.

Hi!

I recently uninstalled applications on my computer that I didn't want (to improve performance) and installed some that I did want. Well now when I try to open Outlook 2007 the program begins opening (I see the main Outlook window) then a bubble pops up from the system tray icon that says "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being checked for problems. Performance might be affected while the check is in progress." then Outlook suddenly closes. Recently Windows Desktop Search was automatically installed on my system (and I have no idea how it got there) so I uninstalled it and it said several Microsoft programs would be affected (including Outlook, I think, since it included a search bar to search for email with WDS) but I uninstalled it anyway. Could this be the problem? How do I fix this? I reinstalled WDS but Outlook still does not open. I even tried repairing Outlook by going into add/remove programs and using the repair feature but with no success.

Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

The name is only Intel HD Graphics Family there isnt a number after it in dxdiag

A:Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

Intel G41 express is the very old, Core 2 equivalent on-motherboard-gpu aka Eaglelake. It only supports up to dx10, it has awful and old drivers, and incomplete opengl support (less apps can run on it). It can idle in recent games like Dota 2 with up to 30fps with everything on low. Key word: idle. Don't even think about playing under more than 15-20fps.

Intel HD Graphics Family is on-cpu-die-gpu aka Sandy Bridge, it's still old now, but does have support for dx11 and opengl, and it has a lot more raw power than x4500(g41), depending on the cpu. It even supports overclocking with sizeable improvements.

Really there is no contest between the two families.

The stock cooler/heatsink that came with my Intel Q6600 has got very noisy lately.. Probably something to do with the barmy hot weather had in the UK over the last few days.

Can anybody recommend a good, quiet and effective cooler (that preferably looks good as well) that would cool my quad core sufficiently? I've had a look about but stuck on what to look for and if it will work on a quad core.

I don't know which driver you have tried to update, Intel family usually denotes chipsets, the one you want is a graphics driver.

I have a Compaq Presario 2570US laptop. Of late, whenever I type something, whether in MS Word, Search Engine Search Bar or even in this message etc, my computer DELETES (backspaces) what I type on its own. Sometimes it deletes a letter, a couple words or every darn thing I type.

Also when I am in Explorer, it would "back" to a previous page until it gets to the first page I was on.

When there are no windows open, the computer continuosly "beeps" like it is trying to backspace something.

I thought it was a virus, but newly installed Norton found nothing. I also thought it was a hijacker, but Xoft Spy found nothing.

I "restored" my system with the Restore System Discs and everything was normal/quiet for about a week and a half, or so, and then the problem started again.

Really frustratung, cause I cannot type what I want and I cant seem to find the problem

A:Help!!!! My laptop is going crazy (and driving me crazy too)

Hello Ralanders and welcome to TSF...

Couple of items you need in order to begin our process:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download HijackThis http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/HijackThis.exe - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KRC%...20Analyzer.zip and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in 'y' if you agree. The 'result.txt' file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. You don't need to post the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan.... Read more

Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk2\DR5"

I haven't a clue what this means since I don't know how to put a disk in a harddisk. Any ideas?

A:Crazy message is driving me crazy

Well its probably reffering to some kind of storage device you are using, if you have any beside One EIDE harddisk...

What's the Operating system you're working with? Do you have 2hardrives or a zip drive or something? A SCZI drive perhaps? Are you trying, albeit inadvertantly, to record on your CDRW drive?

I recently downloaded a 'script update' for MSN Messenger Plus. Then I started to get a lot of CiD popups. I googled it and read about finding a program in the control panal that might have (CiD) attached to it. I removed it but still have tons of popups. Can anyone help me? Three years with this computer and never a problem. My operating system is XP.
Thanks

I am running windows 7 home premium with internet explorer 9 on a HP laptop.  When I try to download a video file more times than not the download gets stuck at 99% with 1 second remaining.  I leave it alone then a few minuter later I get a popup at the bottom of the screen saying this download was interrupted.  Then when I click resume nothing happens.  It always seems to happen when I try to download a video that I want to see badly.  I am downloading these videos from sites like depositfiles, ryushare, filefactory, etc.  I have gooled the problem but cant get a straight answer.  I have tried running in no add ons mode, resetting internet explorer settings, clearing out temp files, cleaning up registry.  Does anyone know how I can prevent this from happening again?  Its driving me out of my cotton picking mind.

A:This Is Driving Me crazy

The only suggestion I have is try a different browser. Post the results when/if you use a different one.

Very Very long story short. The power went out here again. it gave us computer problems. Now the only problem left is The loading screen on Win. XP Home Edition. A few programs also run slow. Its not a memory problem I have 149 GB total and have 136 free. My husband said something about the computer is running in PIO and should be in DMA (at least I think that what he called it) He switched it to use DMA when available, but no change Says he need to chage it in the Bios, but has no clue how to do that. Please help!!
There are no Virus, Adware, Spyware, or temp files right now. I ran Disk clean up, Check drive for errors, defrag. I'm so confused.

A:Help!! Xp Driving Me Crazy

What exactly happens at the loading screen?

By saying some programs run slow, I assume you mean that other than that and the loading screen, the computer runs normally?

I keep getting partypoker, winfixer and other random pop-ups which are driving me crazy. This happens even when I do not have IE running. Stupidly, I'd left my laptop on the other night with the volume up as I'd been watching a movie. At approximately 3am, I was awakened by someone shouting. After recovering from my heart attack, I realised that the shouting was coming from the computer. I need to get this crap off of my computer.

I use Zone Alarms firewall, Symantec AntiVirus along with Spybot, Spy Sweeper and Microsoft AntiSpyware and they all find nothing. I've read 1000 forums, tried using Virtumundobegone (which found nothing apart from the odd statcounter cookie) and have tried to analyse my own Hijackthis log but cannot see anything that is mentioned on the web (arggh - I just got another partypoker popup as i type this).

I have XP Pro, Athalon 800 cpu runningat 1.05ghz, 768MB Ram (not DDR), 2 hard drives. My perplexing problem is the cpu takes almost all the usage whenever I do anything. It will max out while I've still got 400+mb of ram not touched? I've tried reducing the page file, but it shows the change I make (min 2mb max 8mb) but still alocates 1149mb total memory available???? Help, I'm over my head with this.

When you do a ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Task Manager, under processes, which one is taking all this cpu time?

A copy/paste of the HijackThis Scanlog might also be helpful in identifying problems:

Ok, so i built this computer about 9-10 months ago. i have had this problem from the very first boot up and i have yet to figure out what it is.

I realized it for the first time when i started playing WoW. Every few minutes, my computer freezes up and the sound starts stuttering. This will go on for 4-5 seconds then normal play will resume. This gets very annoying, especially in PvP.

I get the same problem with all the high-end games i play: Half-life 2, UT 2k4, etc. I can play the original half-life and other older games with no problems at all.

Also, when i try to rip music CDs to my harddrive, using either windows media or iTunes, my sound starts stuttering like it does in-game and i get the infamous blue screen of death.

The BSoD gives me this error:

STOP: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545FF0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)

im not quite sure what that means...

My specs:
AMD Athelon 3400+
GeForce 6800
1 GB of Geil ultra RAM

Please someone help!! This problem is driving me crazy!

Thanks.

Hi,

New to the site so hello all. I'm having an issue and I'm not quite sure what it is, when I'm on the net and using my usual websites (Facebook, business stuff etc) I could be on it and if I need to do something I may close them and sometimes when I come back I try to open the same website I was just on say 5 minutes ago I get an error message saying "This webpage is not available, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED" Keeping in mind I was on the website not long ago?? When I try other pages they seem to work fine, This is very frustrating as the only way to solve it sometimes is to restart the computer so I can get on the page I want. Has anyone got any ideas what this could be? I use Google Chrome if that makes a difference.

Thanks

I see no problems in the Scanlog at all. If you check the Process tab in the Task Manager, is anything consuming very high cpu resources? Ignore "system idle process" which should be very high.

Processors will normally slow down if overheated, so that might be something to look into.

I have this problem which started last night, and it's driving me nuts! I keep getting a sound like plugging and unplugging something into the USB slot. While this is happening, it also freezes my computer and mouse for maybe 3-5 seconds. This happens sporadically, sometimes continuously for 8-10 times in a row. I have noticed sometimes that if I leave my mouse sit for a while that it will stop and as soon as I move the mouse it starts again. I notice it mostly online, but it does do it off line also sometimes. Please help!

OK, so I've used 20 cd r's and tried compressing through operating system, but still have gotten nowhere. Trying to take video from an 8mm camcorder and burn it on a data disc, so as when it is put into any computer, new or old, it will automatically play. Problem is, video is way to big to fit on the discs and dob't know how to compress it through Nero so it fits. Have tried video cd, but end up with alot of file icons (which are confusing to clients) and have to open the proper file with the "how would you like to open this" whcih is also confusing and time consuming. Any suggestions? Anyone. Many thanks........Scott

A:driving me CRAZY

Most video files such as DivX and Mpeg4 are alredy compressed, and cant be compressed any further. If you really want to put it on a cd you will have to divide the film into sections eg. 1000mgs = 2x 500mb parts. As far as i know this can be achieved with windows movie maker, or any other video authoring software.

Hope this helps, if you really want it on one cd, try a Dual Layer DVD rewirter you'll be able to fit it on there.

Hi, Since I replaced the nic card on my computer, I cannot longer play certain games on Pogo.com. I have never had this problem before and its driving me crazy.

I can play games like Word Whomp, and Bookworm, but if I want to play Chess or Dominoes, the computer freezes solid and I have to re-boot. It lets me open the windows and choose a table, but when I click on "Okay" that's when it freezes. I have disabled the Pop-up stopper, but it does the same. I have tried playing from Firefox, but there's no change. What went wrong?

Pogo is the only site that I know of where they let you set up a private room, and since I play games against my young grandson, I like that feature a lot.

Has anyone in here experience anything like this, and how was it fixed?

Thank you in advance,

Annie

Hello all! Nice to meet everyone. I am here because I really need some help. The pop ups on our new computer are driving us crazy. We recently purchased a brand new Lenovo ideacentre all in one type deal. Now, every time I open a new window I get a pop up asking me to download something like adobe or some other software that I don't need. Or it's a pop up trying to get me to buy a trial offer of some product. We also have floating pop ups all over the place. Like if I do a google search there will be an ad under the google name. Also, while I'm reading a web page there will be two little blue lines underneath certain words in the text and when I float over them expand into a link or pop up looking box. I read all of the sticky's and posted the logs from the directions here. I really hope someone here can help us...thanks!!!

All of the programs detected and cleaned various things, including:eXact.BargainBuddy, SurfSide Kick, osoa.exe, Adware.ZioCom.B, eXact.Downloader, CashBack, Bullseye Network, Media Tickets, CDT Software, 1800Solutions, E2Give, Midaddle, Searchmiracle.EliteBar, and MANY others.Eventually, after running all the programs, they all come up clean, but the pop ups and ads come back. There's something missing, but we're not sure what. (It's not my computer, as it's someone else in the office, so I'm not sure what's going on down there.) Here's my log.-----------------------------------Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 9:17:35 AM, on 8/1/2005Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec_Client_Security\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exeC:\PROGRA~1\TUN\COMMON\ESLCBCST.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\Program Files\Symante... I'm having a problem loading the motherboard software - using the express installer. Its an Intel board that claims to have USB 2.0 type ports, however after I had the OS installed etc. I pluged in my iPod only to get an error saying I had a fast device plugged into a slow port.
I then remembered I had forgotten to install the MB software, aso I tried to install using the Express installer CD that came with the board. This got about 50% through and then put the system into shutdown, upon re-start you get to the windows start up screen and then nothing, you never reach the login screen.
So I decided to start at the beginning again and re-loaded the OS. So I was back getting the same USB error. Then I tried installing the MB software manually (as recommended on the Intel site) but again I have the same issue. So to get anywhere I need to install the OS again.
What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to get the MB software loaded first? and if so how do I wipe the HD in order to do that.
Or
With the OS installed how do I install the MB stuff and get the USB ports functioning properly?

A:its driving me crazy!!!

The reason why you are getting the message is because your motherboard might not support USB 2.0 speed.

Read this forum http://forums.techguy.org/t340223.html and you should be able to find out whether your motherboard can support USB 2.0.

Several months ago when I shut the computer down the light indicating hard drive activity would go out but the power light would stay on. I turned the power off using the switch on the power supply. When I attempted to restart the computer it would not boot up. I decided to do a clean install using the OEM disk that I purchased when I built the computer several years ago. I went through the steps of doing a clean install and the installation would get to the "completing installation" step and after a couple of minutes the screen would go black. I tried to use the Windows disk to do a start up repair several times. The process would show that Windows 7 was installed and all of the repair sets were successfully. I tried new hard drives and downloaded an ISO file from Microsoft. I read someplace that the ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, which was the motherboard I was using, would not run windows 7. I had used this motherboard for about 8 years running window 7 but I decided to replace everything except the video card and solve my problem. Now with a new motherboard, new CPU, new memory and a new power supply, I am still having the same problem. The installation is normal until it attempts the last restart and it dies. I have decided it is me that is causing the problem but I do not know what I am doing wrong and must be repeating my error each time I try to do a clean install.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This network thing is driving me up the wall. I have this new Desktop PC with Vista SP-1 64 bit. We will call this one #1.
#2 is also a Desktop with Vista SP-1
#3 Is a Laptop with Vista SP-1, all are HP products.
My network has a D-Link N wireless Router, and it is all set up and running fine except for this one thing that I cannot resolve.
From #1... I can see #2 & #3 and open all the public folders without a password.
When I try to see #1 from either #2 or #3 I am asked for a password and user name.
I have turned everything I know of, related to passwords off on #1, yet it is still asking.
I feel it is something in the new #1 PC
I use all the usernames I know along with my password to no avail...
Any help will be greatly appreciated...

A:Driving me crazy !

I've been at this for a couple of days now, and going over all the settings on my other two PC's I noticed in the "Network & Sharing " that the "Turn off password protected sharing" was indeed turned off. Checking my new PC it was still on.
I could kick myself for overlooking such a simple thing, still I suppose that's how we learn.
All is fine now.

Evening friends

So - i have a dvd burner, managed somehow! to burn a few half baked home videos using Ulead and Pinnicle software...but im at a complete loss regarding how much you can fill on one of these disks, be it dvd-r or + etc.... and whats the best disk to mess about with ie, to rewrite things over and over while i get to grips with editing my camcorder footage and checking the playback quality....Does it take a while to erase disks...why cant they be like videotapes and simply go over old footage? or can they? please help?

While im hear, not asking too much i know, but its fustrating..i have the gear but just cant seem to get the results.

I simply want to put all my vhs stuff onto disks...i want to re-edit my stuff and put on titles..ok so i have the software to do this...back to pinnicle and ulead 9.0...but like everything computer wise...sort one problem out up comes another.

Please tell me, best method ( in english ) if i want say a 2hour disk of home footage..putting on a couple of my newly edited movies and outtake clips...what disk is the best for quality. And can it be done easliy what problems will i be facing...already it comes up with, 'this disk is not empty...etc' drives me mad.

cheers
and

Us a RW disc for testing, they can be written too many times.. Only takes a short time to erase.

Time wise the amount of footage you can put on disc depends on the bitrate. You could if you wanted get up to 7+ hours on a single 4.7 GB DVD using a very low bitrate.

Low bitrate makes a lower quality video though. There's a calculator here to help you determine bitrate: http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

For VHS 6000 is more than sufficient to maintain quality, that will give you about 1 1/2 hours of video on a single DVD. You can lower it, get yourself that RW and find out what's acceptable to you.

Hi all. I've been reading this site for quite a while and have solved many computer issues with your advice. However, this one is driving me crazy. I have a Dell 1501 Inspiron Laptop. Here's the issues I'm having.

1) Keyboard Lag (on and off) 2-3 second lag
2) Can not shut down, restart, or hibernate XP from the start menu. I have to use the power button to shut down.
3) Screen saver will not work
4) Internet explorer 8 will stop responding after being online for 5-10 mins

Suspecting a virus/malaware these are the programs I have already run:
1) Symantic Anti-Virus
2) Spybot Search and destroy
3) Malwarebytes
4) SmitFraudFix
5) Combofix
6) Superantispyware
7) AVG 2011 Free edition
8) CCleaner

I am out of ideas. Please help. The next step I would have tried was Dr. Web Cureit.
Thanks

A:XP Driving me Crazy.

Have you tried a clean install?

The symptoms you describe...don't seem to be typical malware symptoms, IMO...while they do seem to indicate that your O/S is not performing as it should.

I'm a new poster and I am having a very annoying problem. After about five minutes of surfing the net, my system will no longer allow me to access any websites. A:Please help! This is driving me crazy

Hello cyclonesdmr and welcome to the BC malware forum. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.Step #1Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.ImportantYour copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all. Please open My ComputerDouble-click on Local Disk (C:)Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file).Step #2Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.Press the Enter key.Step #3Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: SDWin32 Class - {14F780A5-0519-4D60-AAF2-CD50AAC84935} - (no file)O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4A25D449-2BAA-4426-A992-D18CA70CF5A9} - (no file)O2 - BHO...
