No Synch w/ ViewSonic Monitor

Q: No Synch w/ ViewSonic Monitor

I have a ViewSonic 19" CRT monitor (bought new in '99) connected to a PC that runs Win XP SP2, 512 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium AGP card.

The system ran fine until I moved it (carefully) to another room. The CPU boots but the monitor does not give any video. I get a black screen with a repetetive blue area that indicates no signal. The specific line entry is "No Synch". I think I may have seen this in the past, when the monitor was powered on but the CPU was shut off. I can't be certain it's the exact same condition.

I switched cables and tried a different video card but no luck. I don't have another monitor other than my laptop. I think I can hook it up to act as a monitor but not certain. Can't afford to crash the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Greetings all,

My ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is recognized as Generic Non-PnP Monitor. I even downloaded and attempted to install Viewsonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64". It times out at the end of installation and requests I download "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed" from Viewsonic website.

My display view is set at max res of 1600x1200. I am running Win7-Ultimate 64bit.

Is there any other way to get Win 7-Ultimate 64bit to recognize the monitor as VX? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256MB card.

Thank you

A:ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is a Generic Non-PnP Monitor

If you need to know, here is how I fixed it.
First install ViewSonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64"
Go to Device Manager
Select Monitor drop down tab
Select Generic PnP Monitor
Right-Click on Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Update Driver Software"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select from the models listed: Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Have Disk..."
Select "Browse..."
Navigate to where the ViewSonic monitor drivers are stored
Example: C:\ViewSonic
Select monitor driver
Example: VX2450_SERIES
Click "Open"
Click "OK"
Select from the pop up window:
ViewSonic on the left and ViewSonic VX2450 Series on the right
Click "Finish"

Finally, you will receive the message: Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
Notice resolution is now 1680x1050

After successful install of Nvidia drivers for my laptop's "nvidia geforce 9300m gs" current version:

186.19 to new version: 260.99, the max res cannot be set to the following available resolutions:
1920x1200, 1920x1440 or 2048x1536

Enjoy!

Hello,
I was just wondering if I'm pretty much out of luck with my monitor or is it fixxable?
Whenever there is any spot for black its pretty much like the picture on the right in this link

I'm trying to decide between the G90FB 19" or the P95F+B...
Here are the links:
G90FB
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-282&depa=1
P95F+B
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-232&depa=1

The only real difference between the 2 is the fact the Professional one (P95F+B) has an aperture grille while the Gaming (G90FB) has a shadow mask

I know the shadow mask uses dots (dot pitch) while the aperture grille uses lines instead of dots...

Which monitor will give me the best picture for gaming and crisp clear text.

A:Which is the better Viewsonic monitor?

If you can afford it I'd get the Professional version. I had Philips 107P (Professional) monitor with a .25 Aperture grille and it was the best monitor as far as picture quality/clairity I've ever seen (I'm sure there are better, but not without paying major money).

I run XP on a new box and a fairly new 19" (year old) View Sonic LCD monitor. The monitor worked as advertised on my old PC but when attached to my new one I frequently get a flashing green power indicator light and will get no picture.

This happens 100% of the time if I cold start the PC and I have to screw around with the restart button and on/off power button to get it to come back to life and in truth I do not know which combination of button pushing gets it to come back. I now use the power saver mode because that seems to be the most consistent way of bringing the monitor back to life but even that didn't work this am.

ViewSonic's web site wasn't much help.

Help here?

About four months ago I bought a supposedly rebuilt Viewsonic P815. About one month after I hooked it up it started to not degause. The screen is pink.

Every once in a while it will correct itself and be fine for a day or two, then it goes pink again. I've replaced cords and plugs.

Any ideas?

A:Viewsonic Monitor Problem

It sounds like the vertical deflection is gone. Try the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on yours to see where the problem is. If the monitor is bad its better to bury a new one than to pay to have it repaired. New monitors are pretty cheap now.

I have a Viewsonic VA721 monitor that I was using up until earlier today when the monitor started acting like a scrambled cable tv channel when turned on.

I was wondering if anyone might happen to know as to what might cause that, what the technical term for it might be and as to whether or not it can be fixed.

Up until today I have never had any problems with the monitor. Every time I would walk away from the computer for a while I would shut the monitor off so that I could avoid any burn in problems with it thereby preserving the life of the monitor. Because of that I have never had any problems with it until today and at the moment I do not know what could be causing the problem.

I tried the monitor on two different computers with two different cables and got the same result. I bought the monitor in 2006 brand new and up until today it has served me faithfully without any problems.

I don't know if it can be fixed or even if it is worth it nor do I know if it is something that I can fix myself or if I would have to have someone else fix it.

What I do know is if there is anything that I can do to fix the problem myself and restore it to active service then I might choose to give it a try.

Until I have more answers though I cannot make an informed decision about any of it and that is why I am asking.

I am hoping that there will be someone here that will know about such things and can give me some straight advice and information about the monitor and the pro... Read more

My 2nd attempt to get some help off the forums

A few days ago, I tried loading up Warcraft 3, a game, and the screen went black, with the light flashing on and off. If I alt tabbed out of WC3 the screen turned back on. The problem persisted after a restarted, so I left it for a while. A few hours later I tried and W3 worked fine, no problems.

However today I turn on my PC and after a few seconds during the boot up, the screen goes blank with the flashing on and off light again. I restart it and it goes blank even faster.
After a while on the forums (on my GFs laptop) I try pressing F8 before the screen goes blank, and then press ESC for the 'default' Boot option. It goes on to boot up normally, with screen errors. I test out warcraft 3, (since when I first saw this it was whilst starting up this program) and it works fine, and goes on to do so for a few hours, till I turn the screen off and on to see if the problem is permanently fixed. It hasn't, the screen goes black.
Upon restarting my PC I get the same error as before, Pressing F8 and Esc doesn't fix it anymore. However now after pressing Esc I get to the screen where they ask me if I would like to Boot up in Safe mode. I do so and it loads up in safe mode fine.
Later on I try again to get it to load in normal mode, it does first time. Then upon loading Warcraft 3 again, the screen goes black again, with the flashing light. Again rebooting results in the same black screen a few seconds into loading... Read more

I just replaced a 1280x1024 Viewsonic monitor, that had gone bad, with another one (Viewsonic VA708).

Though I've never really been one to pay "hard hard" attention to how things look on a monitor - never felt a problem with anything - something just looks/feels "off" with this one.

This is most noticeable to me on the titles appearing on the browser tabs in Firefox. They just look "wrong" - watery maybe to my eye.

BUT... I have attached a screenshot comparing a blowup of a browser tab from my work computer Dell 1280x1024 monitor (top) and my new Viewsonic monitor (bottom), blown up to 1000 px wide (I cropped), and in the blowup, I can't tell the difference.

So why might I be perceiving things differently with this new monitor?

FWIW, I did update the driver from the Viewsonic site, and I also played with both the monitor's and the control panel's display adjustments.

I am running Vista Home Prem.I use an 8800 GTS EVGA.I have the latest drivers for my 8800. I run 2 Viewsonic monitors. One is a VG900b and is fine. I also run a VX2235 digital monitor. Both monitors are listed in device manager by model. I manually installed drivers directly off of the discs.I have also downloaded Viewsonic's monitor drivers. I can't get my 22" to go to it's native resolution of 1680x1050.I have had these installed for a long time and working fine. When I ran a hard disc error check that is listed under tools under properties of my computer it erased my 22" and it's capabilities to operate @ native resolution. Another difference is that before I manually installed the VX2235, it was listed as a 'non plug and play monitor' under device manager. I have never seen that before. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am this close to going out and buying a new XP Pro disc.

My Viewsonic LCD monitor flashes on and off depending on what I am viewing. I can view pages in any program that has writing or a small number of small pictures without too much trouble. A web page with lots of pictures or the desktop and screen saver are the worst. The monitor flashes off so much on these last pages that I can barely see the page long enough to move the mouse and open a program or expand one from the start bar. Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do you happen to know if you are operating the monitor at or beyond its normal operating range for resolution and refresh rates?

Do you get a stable image if you start Windows with a lower resolution in Safe mode?

In the future, it would help us to help you if you give more details like the model number of the monitor and how it is connected to the computer. The TSG reporting utility program does not produce an exhaustive and detailed report about all of the hardware related to your computer.

I have a ViewSonic 2235 22" LCD. I need to find a driver to allow 1600x1050 resolution. I've been to ViewSonic's site and downloaded their signed and unsigned Vista drivers with no improvement - the closes resolution I have the option of is 1600x1024 or 1600x1200.

My monitor seems to be experiencing some kind of problem.

The best way I can describe it is as a 'widescreen' mode. There is a black bar on the top and bottom of the desktop about 1 inch wide and extending across the entire length of the screen. I cannot move the mouse into this portion of the screen.

When adjusting the horizontal and vertical settings, 100% stops with the 1 inch black bars still in place. I cannot seem to make the desktop fit the screen. It seems to have shifted into some other mode of viewing.

I called Viewsonic tech support, but they didn't really know much else to do besides checking my settings. I am at 1024 x 768 resoloution, Radeon 8500 64MB graphics card, Windows XP and have installed the most recent drivers. Even when booting - the black bars are present, as if the monitor has somehow decided that is the mode it wants to be in.

If anyone has come across something like this before or knows how I might be able to fix it, I'd be MUCH obliged!

Regards,

Jeff.

A:Viewsonic Monitor E771 Problem.

Might be starting to fail, 3 year warranty on those generally check the date on the back. Absolute easiest think to do would be to try it on another computer. On the other computer see if you square up the image with the screen if you can't then its the monitor, if you can it could be the video card.

I'm stuck between these 3 monitors. The HP 27xi AOC i2757fh or the Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED 27

They all look similar, but I'm just not sure which one to get. I'm leaning toward the HP 27xi though, but this site rated the AOC i2757fh a little higher over the HP 27xi. I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys.

My main usage is playing games like BF3/BF4, SWTOR and Titanfall when it comes out. I also do a lot of web surfing and occasional movie watcher on this monitor. My current monitor is a 24 inch Asus VW246H and I like it, but I don't love it. So my main concern is how well it displays games. I don't want any ghosting and the least amount of input lag I can find. Now, I know the AOC boasts a slightly quicker response time of 5ms vs the HP's 7 seconds, but the reviews I've read thus far state there is no visual lag from the HP. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

Just upgraded to Win7 64bit. My trusty old monitor has no sound (the picture is fine) I found a driver for a generic Viewsonic x64 driver, http://www.viewsonic.com/support/dow...d_Win7_x64.zip but that didn't solve the problem. I read a suggestion somewhere to uninstall the driver and let Windows find it. That didn't solve the problem either. I tested the monitor with my old (XP) system, in case the monitor developed a sudden fault, but there is still sound when I plug it back in there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really don't fancy having to buy a new monitor too, after having had to replace my printer and scanner

A:Viewsonic vx2235wm-1 Monitor has no sound.

What does the monitor require? Older monitors, that use VGA or DVI usually have a Jack to connect from the PC's Speaker out (GREEN) to the monitor for sound. No driver is required for that. There is no audio in a VGA or DVI connection, just video.

All the fonts and windows are very large, and the only resolution available is 680 x 460, with the only colour option at 16 colours.

What do I do to get a better resolution with this monitor. It worked fine until the hard drive was changed.

I have downloaded the driver for the monitor from the net which was unsuccessful.

I tried changing the adapter from standard to SVGA as recommended by windows, which was rejected by the computer and I had to change it back.

Windows is not accepting the driver that I downloaded.

Hi Guys, I have no idea whats going on over at Viewsonic, however their support service is lacking some serious SUPPORT!!! Just the other day, I re-installed Vista 64 and had been happily using a x64 monitor driver for my VX2025WM, just before the re-install I decided to trall the net for latest drivers and deleted any old ones I had (stupid I know). Anyway on re-install with the latest unsigned driver - Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned_Windows_x64 - Dated 04/10/2007, it is now telling me it cannot find my monitor. I've also tried the latest signed driver and this is not working either. I have tried a manual install from C:\Viewsonic and funny enough the monitor isn't even listed. I've asked Viewsonic for help with them replying asking me to download the latest unsigned driver (what the???) All I need is a copy of the previous unsigned driver to this one listed and I know 101% it will find my monitor and work, does anyone have it or know where I can find archived drivers, as Viewsonic have not responded to this request. Hello guys,

So one night when I left my computer on, i wake up at 3AM on a rainy night and i notice my entire room flashing (like from a tv in dark room). I thought I was having a rolling blackout, but as I got to my senses I noticed that my monitor was the only thing turning off and on. I turned it off, and went to sleep. The next morning I went to go turn on my computer and the monitor does the same thing. It turns off...on...off...on...off...CONSTANTLY (about a one to two second delay between each) until I turn the monitor off. The LED light is green. It goes from green, to off, to green, etc. I've had no prior problems with this monitor.

I tried switching out the power cord and plugging it into my wall (not connected to my video card, or anything)...no luck. It's definately the monitor. I don't know if it's dead or repairable or what. I often leave the computer on over night but i have a 10 minute screensaver and my monitor goes on standby after 20 minutes. When i fell asleep, my monitor was on standby (yellow LED). When I woke up it was the green turning on and off. Doesn't make much sense.

I don't have a replacement...so my situation is pretty bleek atm.

I have a Viewsonic LCD VX924 3ms that i bought around the holidays of 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I need help in making my mind up between the gorgeous Lg 1981Q and the attractive Viewsonic Vx924.

I have recently upgraded my desktop and am thinking about shifting to dual screen, mainly for video and web editing (with a little bit of gaming on the side) and need help in picking out new monitor.

one of my problems is that the looks of the tft is very important to me, cos i cant look at something ugly all the time, i would like a tft which is slim and very sexy (just how i like my women )

If anybody owns either of these screens i would really appreciate their feedback, on how good the monitor is and if they would recommend it.

Thanks

P.s is there really that much noticable difference between 4 and 8 ms, and if so is it going to be noticable when video editing and gaming.

Never mind, as quick as the problem began, it's resolved itself for some reason. Post can be deleted.

I'm having a bit of a strange issue with my ViewSonic VX2258 monitor.
Out of nowhere, the screen started to flicker (not the sort of flickering you might expect from a loose cable, but literally going completely off and back on) every few seconds. Eventually the screen did not come back on at all.
Thinking there was a loose cable, I tried tightening them but to no avail. The light on the monitor is still blue showing that it is detecting an input and Windows still detects that the monitor is plugged in.
When I turn the monitor off and on, I can see the ViewSonic logo, but oddly enough after that it is a black screen and I am unable to get any system menus to appear (the ones that are generated by the monitor itself, not the PC) or change the source. I would have thought that because of this, there is something wrong with the display but that doesn't seem to be the case considering I can see the logo upon starting the monitor. (Perhaps something to do with firmware?)
I don't think that it is a problem with my GPU as my secondary monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster) still seems to be functioning perfectly but just in case, it is a Powercolor Radeon R9 290X and my drivers are all up to date.
Thanks for the help!

hi all - ive got a problem with my new viewsonic vx2753mh-led monitor. its got 2x hdmi inputs and one vga.

the vga works straight off the bat, but whenever I try and plug the hdmi in it just says no input signal detected and goes black

I noticed in device manager that this was installed as 'generic non-pnp monitor' so after jumping through some hoops i managed to install the driver as 'viewsonic vx2753 SERIES'
Anyway this doesnt seem to have made a difference. still no input through the hdmi.

I have tested to cord on my samsung tv and it worked fine so it can't be a problem with the cord or the graphics card....

just some general info that might be of use:
windows 7 x64
dual monitor setup

the graphics is integrated on the intel i5 chip
my display adapters in device manager says Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
it has a dvi out, hdmi out, and vga out.

thanks for any help you can give!

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor not recognizing HDMI input signal.

I have a Viewsonic which I'm also trying to run a media PC to connected via an HDMI cable, and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It was working fine for awhile, but recently I have been receiving an error on screen saying the "HDMI to DVI cable as experienced an error" or something to that effect. Note: I am using strictly an HDMI cable, not an HDMI to DVI as the message states (can't explain why I'm getting that message). I did the same thing you did, tested the machine using the same cable on another tv, and it worked fine on the other tv. What's strange is I can connect the cable box to the tv using the identical HDMI cable and it worked fine. Tried again using the same cable from the PC to the tv, and either 1) blank screen, or 2) shrunken screen with the aforementioned error which will go blank once I open Media Center.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but it seems to me Viewsonic hasn't made a good product in terms of connecting media PC's, for some reason. Of course, my tv is out of warranty at this point. If you find an answer, keep me posted, I'll do the same.

I have a Viewsonic VT2430 monitor/tv, and a Windows Vista 64, with ATI 4200 graphics chip PC.

Just performed windows update on my Dell Inspiron Desktop 560MT - Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit. I have been using dual monitors on the system since purchase. After performing windows update today my second monitor (connected by HDMI) will no longer display. The other monitor (the working one) is connected via VGA. The system does not recognize it is even connected. At start up however it will display up until login window. I am using two ViewSonic VX2453 Series monitors. I am desperate as I have to have both monitors for work. I have tried unplugging and replugging, restarting it with it unplugged and plugged. I uninstalled the update and have tried autodetect on the system all to no avail. Help!!

A:After Windows update 2nd Viewsonic monitor will no longer display

KChristians, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sounds like you have WU set to automatically download and install updates, and it updated either the video or monitor driver. If that is what happened check your update history and you can uninstall it from there and should get you back to the previous drive.

Also if that s what it was you might want to set WU to not download and install drivers automatically, step #4 here,

Title says it all really, just put a scratch in my 3 week old monitor , mildly annoyed about it and wondering whether theres any way to make it go away. When I run my finger over it it dusn't feel like a scratch, but with the monitor off, or showing a bright white screen its quite evident, and running fingernail over it i can tell its an indentation. Against bright white it looks almost like the effect seen if theres water on your monitor (rainbowy), if that helps at all. Basically i'd just like to be not able to see it, and was wondering if you had any suggestions?

I have it hooked up with HDMI (brand new gold plated cable). The text especially is blurry/fuzzy and the screen doesn't take up all the space it should - about 1/2" at the top and sides, bottom is ok. The guy at View Sonic support said it was a video card issue and I would have to figure it out with HP or Intel. Can anyone help me? I have Intel HD graphics. The monitor is Viewsonic VX2270-Smh-LED. It's 21.5" 1080p frameless IPS display.

Me and my friend just finished our computer, we had a few issues with the NZXT Phantom case at first: they didn't send us a few screws so we had to go to the local tech store and buy a few, but everything worked out.

Anyway

Our screen seems to be having a slight problem: the image of the screen is not taking up the entire space provided by the screen.
There is an option that we found: Auto Image Adjust, and I am sure this is the right one, except: it's disabled!

It's a ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED Full HD 1080p
We have Windows 7 installed on it, and everything is working fine.
The Screen Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080.
DPI Setting is at 150%

Thank's for the help!

Dear All Experts,

Hello! How are you all doing? Well today, I came across this Viewsonic LCD Monitor which looks quiet appealing and of course, being manufactured by the leading display technology company of the world Viewsonic! Heres the link to the product:

Viewsonic VX2433wm (24inch HD LCD Monitor)
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...s/vx2433wm.htm

Now here's what I need to know:

My main use of an LCD Monitor will be to:

* Watch Movies (Which should include a DVD & High Definition (HD) Quality Videos).
* Play 3D and Normal Games.
* Movies like Jurassic Park, Speed, Titanic, Action Movies, etc...
* Web browsing, doing back work on PC, Listening to music.

So, this in short will be the purpose of using a new LCD Monitor. So far, I am using CRT Monitor.

Once you have gone through the above link, could you kindly let me know how well would this Viewsonic LCD Monitor fair in terms of my above mentioned usage.

BUT NOW HERE's A TwIsT >>> While looking forward to buy an LCD Monitor, one question that kills my decision of buying it is that What if a Touch Screen LCD Monitor will be made available once Windows 7 releases to users. Then would all these LCD Monitors sold out today will be consider completely outdated not only in terms of technology but features as well. I have a Viewsonic E-655 and when I put it on my computer nothing happens... if I pull out the power and then replaace it there is just five shimmering balck belts accross thre screen. I tried it on my Mum's computer, and it came up with the message Frequency Over range. What is this.
I had it out last night and had it plugged through a Sanyo projector - ie. the computer plugged into the projector and so did the monitor. Would this have done it? Also, carrying it back out to the car when it was raning might have gotten it wet?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Only thing I can think of is that your video settings got changed somehow. Can you put another monitor on your machine, boot up into windows. go to start/settings/control panel/display/settings tab/advanced button/adapter tab/ in the drop down box if refresh rate is set to optimal change it to adapter default, save , shutdown and hook up the other monitor. Long shot, probably won't work

Bought my son a new mp3/4 (Technika Advanced) which should allow drag and drop files from wmp. Problem is that wmp does not recognize the drive when the device is connected, and therefore will not synch. It only sees the DVD/CD drive. Despite this, wmp will play files already loaded on the mp3.
The problem is not with the mp3 as I tried another mp3 with the same result. Previously he had always loaded his old mp3 via a converter, so not sure if wmp ever recognized a connected device. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, in anticipation.

I have 2 laptop pcs on my desk. They are identical DELL laptops except for one has an XGA screen + the other has an SXGA screen. They are BOTH running WIN XP PRO. They are both connected to a D-LINK router so as to be able to get my CABLE internet connection to both of them.

My GOAL is to have one of the machines ALWAYS be in synch with the other at the end of the day or maybe at least at the end of 2 or 3 days. I would like to have the second PC to be in effect the backup file system for the other one.

I am trying to SORT OUT different approaches.

One might be to DAILY make an IMAGE of one of the pcs with IMAGE software like Norton Ghost [or something along those lines] with an EXTERNAL hard disk + then possibly put the new IMAGE on the second PC?

Another approach might be to use something like LAPLINK [or equivalent software(?)] to update only the changed files...again on a daily basis?

A third option I am thinking might be to use some type of backup software like STOMPS BACK UP to an external hard drive + then run the RESTORE program on the second PC?

I am a bit CONFUSED about these or some other options. My GOAL is to at least on a DAILY basis have a FOOLPROOF backup PC available to always be working in case of POTENTIAL hardware/software disaster.

Any ideas?

1. I have a mix of XP and vista.

Just installed a new AGP card (ATI radeon). Am getting " synch out of range, 23.9k/38" when I boot up with the graphics accellerator on full. How do I fix this so this gd card will work? Thanks!

A:Synch out of range

that is a message from your monitor saying that the signal from the video card is either too high of a resolution of too high of a refresh rate. Boot up in safe mode and lower those so it can be viewed normally. Then make sure that the drivers for the card are installed correctly and download the latest updates from the manufacturers site if necessary and make sure that the monitor is also being recognized correctly and download drivers for it as well if possible. With the correct drivers on both, you should not even be able to set the resolution or refresh rate too high and the problem should not come back.

Good day all. I am looking for advice on some software. I am not looking for anything big ... and I would REALLY like to find this FREE, if available ... but would not be adverse to dropping a few bucks on it, if it meets needs.

I have a customer that used to use Easy2Synch to synch dox between two computers in her office that are networked. Somehow she has lost the program Easy2Synch and it costs like over $100.

What programs does anyone here recommend we try to perform this? We are synching the Desktop and My Documents back and forth between a laptop and desktop both running XP using a local area network. That's all we need, just a program that will do this simple task.

I thought I would check here before Googling it .. ya never know what you'll find behind some of those links!

Thank you for your time and recommendations.

Hi all,

This is my first post outside the intro section, so hello. Also, I hope this is the right section for this thread.

I've finally got my act together and decided that I need a decent back-up solution for my data. So, as the title states, I'm looking for software recommendations from anyone with a little more experience of these things. I'll describe my requirements and hopefully someone can prescribe me the right software!

- I use a 1TB Samsung external drive, containing all my non-system files. It is this that I'm most interested in backing up.
- I have two 40GB internal drives, one system, one non-system. It would be good to back these up too, but the external is my priority.
- Both non-system drives (internal and external) contain a Truecrypt container that occupies half of their full capacity.
- I have a brand new 1TB Hitachi drive which will act as my back-up device.
- I need some free software that will automate my backing-up.

A pretty basic situation, I guess, but most of the back-up/synch software I've looked at (including the Samsung and Hitachi software bundled with my externals) seems primarily designed to back up system drives. My main interest is in synching the two externals. I have no clue how the Truecrypt containers will factor into this. Since they just act like regular files I assume it wont be an issue.

I'm not really sure what other info to give at this stage, so I'll wait to see if any kind soul is willing to ... Read more

A:Which back-up/synch software is right for me?

If you're willing to pay, go with this . It's called NovaBACKUP.Not sure how good this will work or not either, but: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/SyncBack.html .Or SyncToy if on Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en . I really can't think of a good program that syncs the two externals... SyncBack or SyncToy might work. Sorry if I didn't help too much, that's all I could think of.

With certain videos it seems that the video itself plays at about two or three times the speed of the sound(normal speed), I have tried to troubleshoot this to no effect(including full windows update). I was wondering if there's an error in the video itself or if I can set the speed at which the sound/video each play for certain problem videos. Toggling hardware acceleration does nothing and neither did the updates, any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the latest version of Media Player Classic (6.4.9.0). Everytime I fast forward to a certain point in a video, the video lags behind the audio and then once synched, the video is sped up for 4 seconds. This may be a codec issue, but I'm not sure which one I need.

A:Audio-video -- out of synch

Best thing to do if you think its a codec issue is to install the K-Lite codec Pack (link below). it installs pretty much every codec you'll need to play any video. But it sounds like it might not be a codec issue. Maybe your computer just can't keep up with it when you seek too far in a video and when it finally catches up it plays the video faster to sync up to the sound. its happend to me before. but you can try downloading and installing the codec pack and see if it helps.

I used to use Nero VisionExpress, now I use Roxio Media Creator, but in both programs I occasionally have issues with audio synch when creating DVD's from AVI or MPEG video files; that is, sometimes the resulting DVD's audio doesn't match the video. When this happens, the audio trails the video by 1-2 seconds at most. Also, occasionally when this happens, the audio will be in-synch if I play the DVD from beginning to end without fast-forwarding or rewinding, but will become out-of-synch if I attempt to search forward or backward at all. But usually it's simply out-of-synch no matter what.
Again, this only happens with some of my attempts to create DVDs. What causes this? Is the problem inherent in the video file? Is this avoidable when transcoding to DVD? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you very much.

I've also tried selecting several smaller video clips (instead of one big one) to burn to DVD, but on the disk the final product still turns up out of synch.
the Roxio web site suggested lowering the hardware acceleration, defragging, emptying the temp folder. I did all of these, but made no difference.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop and am running iTunes 10. I have a couple of issues that are probably related. I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad that are the only devices used on this laptop, and this laptop is the only computer that I use for my devices (if that makes sense).

About 50% of the time whenever I plug either my iPhone or iPad into the computer, iTunes comes up and says "iTunes has detected that a previous iPad (or iPhone depending on what i plug in) has been synched with this computer. Would you like to setup as a new device, or restore from backup? If I select restore, I always get "Restore failed as the backup could not be read" or something like that. Of course I can set up as a new device, but then I have to redo all of my apps, books, movies, etc.

I have uninstalled iTunes as per Apple's tech support (removed itunes, quicktime, apple mobile support, etc) and reinstalled, but it didn't seem to help. I am running win7x64 as an os.

Any suggestions?

Hi welcome to the forum.
The obvious questions first.
Have you checked in Device Manager to make sure all your drivers, video card, etc is up to date?
There are no little yellow warning signs that indicate problems?
Did this problem only start after you downloaded Flash Player, or could it have been present before???

Is there such a thing? Chrome and FF import of bookmarks and backup is seamless. It took me half an hour to update IE bookmarks. And sorting them A-Z. is there an easier way? I'd like to start using IE some again--but this is WAY too labor intensive.

A:Bookmark backup/Synch for IE

You need to find out where bookmarks live in IE and then simply back up that folder--weekly or monthly, whatever suits you.

Should be very easy once you know the location. Dig into the IE configuration and look for it.

That's what I did when I used IE, but I have forgotten the location. I configured my regular backup program to copy that IE folder to a backup drive on demand.

Not sure if this fits best here in networking or in XP or utils or just where, but thought I would go with this one...

I have a mom-and-pop built desktop that is about two years old, running Win XP Home SP1 Build 2600. I also now have an HP ZD7010 laptop, also running Win XP Home SP1 Build 2600. I applied the updates to the desktop that had what was the relatively new XP OS at the time and was basically "raw", but the laptop being fairly new, came with the SP1 updates in place. Point: although the two OS's are supposedly identical, they appear to be somewhat different "flavors" in many aspects, displaying differing functionality, and I have been told that this is quite normal given the origins of the two PCs and their OS's…

Ok, given that, what I would like to do is make the two pc's equivalent from an OS and software standpoint. I am wondering if it is feasible using NTBackup to do a system state backup, or whatever kind of a backup(s), of the desktop, and then restore that to the laptop. Has anyone actually done this? Without problems? Even if it has been done successfully, is there a chance that it could still be problematic?

Then, I would like to synch the two pc's periodically, basically to keep the laptop current in case of catastrophic failure of the desktop. I procured an ethernet "crossover cable" to bridge the two pc's, but have not yet been able to get that to work, even tho all instructions have been metic... Read more

Hi All,
I have a client with a small business that has a home office and five small branch offices. All the offices have a cable internet connection and use a cable router that uses NAT to connect the internal LAN users to the web. All computers run XP.

The client would like to have one computer from each of the 5 branch offices synch the contents of a folder on the branch office PC, over the internet to a folder on a computer at the home office.

The client would like this all to be transparent to the users of the branch office computers. Once I set this up, everything should work automatically without any user involvement. Also, the data is somewhat sensitive, so the solution would have to be fairly secure.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions on how best to complete this task.

Thanks.

A:Secure Folder Synch over the Web

I'd setup a secure FTP server with SSH capability in the home office, and then use clients at each remote office with a batch scheduling capability. The transfers would be secure on the link, and it could all run seamlessly.

If you want better control of the process, install the servers at each branch office and have the client at the home office. You can decide when you do the transfers, and you can also troubleshoot any issues from one point.

I have phone synch on my PC for the Nokia 6210 which works great to back-up phone numbers to Outlook. I now have a 6310i but cannot get a Synch Now message when I launch the programme. Do I need the exact 6310 CD or is there something I need to do to make the 6210 programme work with the 6310i?

Hello. recently, a friend of mine and I have been trying to play NBA2k5 on line against each other, which previously was never a problem on our PS2s. Now, we get a message that states: "Unable to synchronize with other player". Then we get kicked back into the main online room, where we CAN play other players. Additionally, the PING box next to his name is never 'green' or 'full of green boxes'. Does anyone know how to increase the PING, or fix this problem so I can kick his butt again? Thanks.

Hi there

I have tried a nice new fresh re-install of windows 10, this time I decided to sign in with my outlook account instead of a local account.

The install itself went very smoothly, the problem I now have is that when I use the handy calendar app to make changes or add events it does not update on outlook.com web calendar or my phone it is of course logging in with the same account.

If I make changes on the web outlook, they are synched to my phone, if I make changes on my phone they are synched to my web calendar, but not visible via the calendar app that stays the same.

I wonder if anyone has any idea's ?

how do i go about fixing the problem of the laptop not keeping proper time. when i change the time element (through the date / time icon, it changes to another time after being shutdown for a period of time ( e.g. after an hour or so ). is it that the battery needs replacing ( if so please advise ) or is it some other solveable problem?

A:time out of synch on laptop

The most probable is the internal battery (Lithium, coin-like). Be EXTREMELY CAREFULL if your laptop is an IBM, if you attempt to change it by yourself you can get an unusable lap....

I use an Asus pocket PC to collect certain gps data and then synch it to my vista laptop using windows mobile device center (mdc).

Yesterday, when I plugged the asus in via usb, the response was device not recognized. Hoping I could renew the partnership, I ended the current partnership. But cannot get the mdc to offer up a new partnership. Only "settings" appears on the page...there used to be more items. I uninstalled mdc and installed new. Same thing. When I plug in it says it successfully installed drivers, but then a box pops up saying device isn't recognized.

How can I force mdc into new partnership?

ps, if this is the wrong subforum, sorry. Where does it belong?

I don't watch TV, but there are a few programs I like, so I watch them on the computer. I usually use HULU or Surfthechannel. It's always a bad lip-synch job. The video mouth moving is out of synch with the audio. Is there a fix for this, as in using a different program to run video? Maybe I should add, I am hard of hearing and I know I do a lot of lip-reading when watching...being out of synch is a bear.

A:audio video out of synch?

Hi!

I was told that VLC has a feature that allows you to assign a time-delay to the audio. You'll need to look up how to do it though, as I don't use it very often.

Alright here's a good one, monitor less than a year old, I could never load drivers for it because screen would go haywaire, real wavy along the side edges. ok so I've been using the win98se driver, plug and play monitor ones, well now it's doing it even with them. I d/l the latest driver for win98 from Viewsonic, load them and it really goes berzerk, delete them, screen is still unstable. So, I do a print screen while it's doing this thing so I can post it for you folks to look at, and when I paste it into notepad the picture is fine in the file. what I mean is that to the pc the screen is normal, man am I confused. What does this mean???

Hi,

I have a ViewSonic 19" UltraBrite a90+ with a ati radeon 9800 pro....

When I play games like CS things far away and even up close kinda shine with this glare and its really annoying. Plus my monitor -- which i got last december -- has these lines going acrross it. On wallpapers and programs such as a game theres these strips that go all over.

I dont think its my video card and i have my fresh rate @ 120hz

any helpers?

A:ViewSonic A90+ Problems

These are the MAXIMUM refresh rates of your monitor, exceeding them will damage it. Your monitor does not support 120Hz.

2048x1536 maximum resolution

Displays a maximum resolution of 2048x1536; 1600x1200 optimal resolution at 87Hz flicker-free refresh rate for easy-on-the-eyes viewing.

2048x1536 @ 68Hz
1920x1440 @ 73Hz
1856x1392 @ 75Hz
1600x1200 @ 87Hz

My daughter's AOC monitor died, boo hoo, it was 6 years old so it was bound to happen. O.K., I buy a spanking new Optiquest Q75 plug it in, load the drivers and voila, it totally screws up her pc, I mean the screen was distorted like i never seen before in my life. It was like 2 giant magnets were going up and down the sides of the monitor. I brought the monitor up to my pc, it worked fine...those dam drivers screwed up her entire operating system, I could no get them off her pc so I reformatted her HD, 4 hours and many grey hairs later, (I mean if I still had hair that is), she has a new monitor. Imagine me thinking I was just going to plug it in.

I've downloaded and gone through the Device Manager install of the Vista signed and unsigned drivers from Viewsonic. Choose the vx2835wm as the monitor and... "file not found". Viewsonic support sends me to a link that says "no drivers available" and then says to download their Vista 64 package I've been doing since day 1. (been doing this and all suggestions since Nov 2007)

Vista Ult. 64 uses its default non-pnp drivers where I have my 1920x1200 native res. with everything but gaming (the reason for purchasing this monitor). I can't get anything higher than 1600x1200 (in gaming) and well, its fuzzy. Can't use windowed mode, OS drivers stop functioning and reload frequently. I've set the res. in the nVidia panel to 1920x1200, set the game ini file to 1900x1200 but it still will only work at 1600x1200 although the games support the higher resolutions.

Is there anyone here that uses this monitor that has found Vista 64 drivers that work? If not, is there a 28", or even 30, that has Vista 64 drivers that will work at native resolution with any program or game?

I am ready to sail this monitor out the third floor window and buy another if I can't get a solution for fixing this one so need recommendations on other monitors as well.

Thank you

Dwarf I don't see your reply here although I did get an email that you posted.

The following link is to the signed standard Viewsonic monitor driver for Vista 64-bit. This driver should be installed with administrative privileges. For games, you might need to adjust your settings such as anti-aliasing in order to be able to use this resolution. The higher certain settings are, the lower the maximum resolution that is available. This is just a matter of trial and error, bearing in mind that higher resolutions require more working RAM on the graphics card and also a card of sufficient power to yield a decent frame rate at these settings.
Dwarf

I did download those many times each time it was updated by Viewsonic. It goes through the device manager wizard fine and then 'file not found'. However, someone did message and email me their driver folder from the monitor cd and it worked. Apparently my cd was a bad one. So all is well and working. Games are working great with the right resolution now.

I was looking to go from my 22 inch NEC FE2111(too big) to an LCD monitor; However, I can't seem to make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to the Viewsonic VP191B ($449.00 at newegg) or the BenQ FP91G+ ($329.00 at newegg). I've heard nothing but good things about BenQ, and I already know the excellent reputation of Viewsonic. I do alot of gaming so that's an important factor. I know CRT has better visual quality than LCD, but I need to conserve space, so any input on these 2 monitors would be appreciated.

A:Viewsonic or BenQ

We use Viewsonic 17'' at my work & they r ok. Although I have a BENQ at home & I find it way better than the others. I had an LG one b4 & seriously the BENQ not only looks better but was cheaper too! they r owned by Acer or some other joint big organisation & are not crappy at all. others have said that because they haven't heard of them then they must be crap, but you just have to research them b4 judging.

Either r good ... but yeah thats just my opinion :grinthumb

I am using WinX DVD Ripper Platinum to convert my DVD recordings from my DVD recorder -> DVD (intermediary) -> AVI files on my disk (to save space). The audio in the AVI file is almost always out of synch with the video (ahead of the video). The vendor said to check "Force A/V Synch" on their converter, to play the AVI file with VLC Player and to adjust the Track Synchronization to a negative value. This works but it is annoying to have to do this each time I watch the AVI and having to keep adjusting the synch value again and again the first minute or two of the playback until it is right (it's not consistently the same setting from AVi to AVI).

Can anyone recommend a converter that will do a better job of synching the audio and video?

thanks
