Solved: Lines through printed page

Q: Solved: Lines through printed page

Hi

I suspect this might be a fairly common problem. Whenever I print there also seems to be a block of about 5 fine lines printed over the text for about ever new line of text. Now I recently bought a new (high capacity) cartridge which costs a fortune, so I'm not too keen to buy another if it is the printer (about 6 years old) which is the problem.

Has anyone else had the same sort of problem?

A: Solved: Lines through printed page

Try cleaning the print heads, this is the normal solution to this problem.

I have these consistent, straight, faded lines on the paper I print on when they come out of my HP Photosmart Inkjet printer. (Like as if there's a roller inside the printer which isn't calibrated, and doesn't put equal pressure on the paper). Has anyone had this problem, or know what I'm on about?

The printer is refurbished, second-hand off eBay but I don't think this has anything to do with it. I remember using a relative's printer and seeing the same lines in the past.

What gets me is that the inks are brand new, and not near empty...

A:Unusual streak lines on paper being printed..what are they?

I've seen stuff like that happen on epson inkjets when the heads are slightly clogged. May want to look into that barring any other suggestions.

Unsure if this is correct place for this, but here I go.
I wish to create a timetable using Excel (Not Works).
It will consist of several columns and several rows.
I want to highlight selected rows to be printed in a colour other
than black. How do I achieve this please?
In Win95, using Works, it was possible.
In WinXP, using Works, it is not.

Of course being Signor El Thicko, I hope you can educate me.
Many thanks.

A:Selecting Lines Or Columns In Excel To Be Printed Different Colours

Hi Tiger25
In the upper right hand corner of excel's toolbar you should see a "Bucket" and an "A".
They should have colors underneath them and a drop down arrow next to them.
Highlight a row or column. Change the background color of the row or column with the "Bucket" and the text color with the "A".
You can do this ahead of time so that any text entered in the future automatically changes to the color you want. (use the drop down arrow to select different colors)
Is that what you mean?

Three days ago when I tried to print from the web and then WORD there was no installed printer. I checked and the printer was still installed but when printing a document the print screen said their was no printer installed. I checked and the print spooler was not working. So I downloaded the Microsoft tool MicrosoftFixit.Printing.Run.exe. I ran it and presto the printer worked but only once and when I went to print again, again the print box showed that there was no printer installed. So I have to run the Microsoft.Fixit.printing.run.exe tool every time I want to print a page then restart the computer. A royal pain and time waster.

Something is turning the spooler off and not allowing individual programs to see the installed printer and therefore reports that there is no installed printer.

2nd issue. this is a new laptop (ACER) and there is no LED light to show "Caps Lock". I did find a setting that flashes the screen and makes an audible beep. However, my wife has the exact same computer and hers has a 2" x 2" box appear each time she puts cap Lock on. Which is way less distracting than audible beeps and flashing screens. Is there a setting for this? I have not found one in the Microsoft website for Windows 7.

Help,
yarlac

When I print I am getting a blank page between each printed page. Even if my document is one page it prints a blank page after it. I can also print a selected page, as in "print page 2" but it still prints a blank after it. The blank page does not show up on the preview.

I have a HP Deskjet D1300 and am running Vista Home using Word 2007. Is it a printer problem or a Word 2007 problem? Any suggestions?

A:Getting un-wanted blank page between printed pages

I think you may have the printer set to print separator pages.

Look around in your printer properties (Control Panel>Printers>Printername>>Right Click>Properties) and disable.

I use two printers at two locations w/different computers and have the same problem on both. Many (most?) web pages have info on left side of screen that I do not want to print (such as at this web site). When I print the page I get the left side panel and letters or words on the right are cut off which I need to fill in by hand. Some sites offer "printable view", but I don't recall having a problem with that. Probably not.
Is there a way to adjust the page so that all desired text is printed?

I have a HP C4850 configured to work through the wireless. I can ping the printer and access its internal web page. Network configuration prints out no fails or errors so as far as I can tell everything is configured correctly. If I send it a print job, a small notepad document with the text "test" in it, it won't print. Eventually it just seems to forget the print job is there. However if I send the job, then print the network device configuration, the print job will print immediately after. I did this 3 times and it was consistent in its behavior. I'm at a complete loss, any ideas?

Hello everyone

I recently installed Outlook 2010 and I have got the following strange problem and I was wondering
whether anyone else had the same problem and found a solution.

Whenever I print an Outlook email, the pages come out in reverse order (page 2 then page 1) with a blank cover page which sometimes has "Microsoft Outlook - memo style OUTLOOK.EXE" printed
on the middle of it, and a blank sheet between each page of the message.

It only happens with Outlook. Printing is normal with Word, Excel, etc.

Any suggestions, please?

A:Outlook 2010 emails being printed with blank pages between each page

In Outlook please go to File - Print, highlight Memo Style, then click Print Options button above. In a new window Print, hightlight Memo Style again. Click Define Styles... In a new window, make sure that Memo Style is hightlighted and click RESET button.

If this wont help, click Edit button in the same window, and make sure all the parameters make sense and are correct (page size, etc.)

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, “The record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?”

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.
Thanks,
Hash

Hello Everyone,
I have tried searching and searching for this problem but nothing seems to come up with this particularly odd problem. I'm actually running 3rd party software hosted on an AS/400 system but from a Windows 7 32-bit computer. If I right-click the title-bar of the window and select print, the print dialog box comes up asking for the printer I want to use. I select one, then click "Print" and the following comes out on the page....
<See Sample.jpg> (Of course, that's not an actual page, it's a representation of what you'd see on the page, but it's accurate despite the fact that it's color. Anyway, the print screens come out light and don't scan in well.)
As you can see, the print dialog box is clearly visible on the page. This seems to randomly crop up only on Windows 7 boxes and once it starts, we seem to have no way to stop it.
HEEEEyyyUUULLPP!!!
Thanks,

I have an HP LaserJet 1020 attached to a WinXP Pro workstation via USB. I have an Intel iMac networked with the PC wirelessly. I can detect the LaserJet on the iMac just fine, and on the iMac, documents spool and even say they have printed (they show up in the "completed" section of the printer control panel).

So, the iMac thinks the document printed, but it never did. When I look at the print queue on the Windows machine, I see "Remote Downlevel Document" in it. I assume that the iMac is printing to a port instead of starting the Windows Print Spooler, and this is why it is showing up with this name.

When viewing the LaserJet's queue on WinXP, the downlevel document is "Printing," and "113k/113k" has been transferred. But the document never prints - if I try to "cancel" the document in the Windows print queue, it says "deleting" for a verrrrry long time. Documents can be printed just fine locally on the Windows workstation.

Thanks in advance!

I have a HP CM2320nf printer. Recently the output pages that I print have about an inch and a half of vertical blue lines at the top of the page and a pinkish, red pair of lines going down three quarters of the page.

We use the printer on windows XP Computers that are networked.

This problem happens when we print in black and white.

The three ink cartridges that are color, Magenta, Cyan, and Yellow all are listed as empty based on the Printer Monitoring Utility.

I attached an example. It is not as clear as I would like but still visible.

Does anyone have a suggestion.

I recently acquired a Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) 15.1 mp. Previously, I had a Canon PowerShot A80 (4.0 mp).

Here's my question. Whenever I try to print a photo from my Canon i860 printer, the picture is a lot brighter than the image on screen (overexposed). I need to darken the picture significantly before printing it, in order to get a ressemblant result on paper. When I was printing a photo from my PowerShot A80, the result was almost identical to the image on screen.

Does this have anything to do with my new camera's higher resolution? Would I need to lower the resolution in order to match the printer's capacity?

This is becoming annoying and I really would like to find a solution.

Thank you.

Hi, I have a user on a XP pc with Office 2007. He is having problems when he is printing a graph - some of the details on the Y axis are missing and also the graph header (see example2). Looks OK in print preview and also if he prints to a PDF file (see example1). Same result when he tries otehr printers from the same pc and old files containing graphs have the same problem. If he selects the graph and prints, then it prints OK but this is not really an option when he has multiple pages with multiple graphs.

This question is about using "Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}."

I've read many solutions for this online and in MS's help files. None of them are working, and it really has me perplexed because I consider myself an advanced user.

My document is a book:

The first page of my book is a cover page. It shouldn't be counted in page numbering.
Beginning on the second page, my book has a TOC and then 9 chapters.
The TOC and each chapter are set up in their own sections. (I do this because I include the chapter's name - which is the section name - in the footer along with page numbers. It also facilitates creating the TOC)
I want the TOC to be counted as Page 1
All of that works fine for the {PAGE} page number. To accomplish it, I told Word to start counting page numbers from 0, and I suppressed displaying the number on the Cover. Then for subsequent pages I selected "Continue from previous section."
My issue is that I really want to show both the current page and the total number of pages ("Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}") in the footer.

When I try that, {PAGE} displays correctly, but {NUMPAGES} shows one too many. It is obviously counting the cover page.

Evidently what I did in #5 above only affects the count for {PAGE} and not for {NUMPAGES}.

All over the web I find the simple solution of using a formula field for {NUMPAGES} as follows:
=1+{NUMPAGES}

Actually, I think that would do the opposite of what I want. I would probably have to... Read more

A:Solved: Word 2007 Page Numbering: Make {NUMPAGES} start counting from Page 2?

I was just messing with the same issue and found a solution:

{={NUMPAGES}-1}

This may look exactly like something you tried already but here is the difference:

Instead of typing in the curly braces ( { ) manually, you have to hit "Ctrl-F9" to insert a field, then do the same for the braces around "NUMPAGES". You wind up with a field inside a field. That way it interprets the "NUMPAGES" as your document property, returns a number like "42", then the next field takes the equation "= 42 - 1" and returns "41". If you don't use "CTRL-F9" to enter the "NUMPAGES" field, it sees the first curly brace and stops, seeing it as a syntax error.

Hope it works for you! It worked for me!
-cheers

So just today, i turn on my computer, but i receive a BSOD, that says "Page fault in a Non page Area",
After some researching i clean my computer, and still receive the error.

I can safely boot into safe mode, and after booting into safe mode i can then boot into windows 7 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) normally after restarting. But the computer just goes not responding, and i can't do anything.

I've run memtest but there's no problems.
I also have a minidump file.

Is there any solution to this?

A:Solved: BSOD Page Fault in Non Page Area

The minidump is showing klif.sys, Klif Mini-Filter fre_wnet_x86 from Kaspersky Lab, as the probable cause for your BSOD. Basically, it's a driver part of your Kaspersky software.

You may have installed a 32-bit version of Kaspersky on a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Uninstall Kaspersky completely and try your computer again.

This one if giving me fits....I made a one-page web site, but for some reason I created it in a way that makes it impossible to make it the index.htm page. Therefore, the home page remains blank, and the page I want to be the home page (and ONLY page) is invisible, because on the net it automatically goes to the index.htm page, which is blank. I know that sounds complicated, but my issue is: how do I import the page I created into the new web and make it the index.htm, or home page (the ONLY page!) Or just start a new web and import the page I created....? all i want if for my one page web to be publishable, and right now what you see on the internet is nothing, because there's no home page....

Help!

Just got a new comp, and am having some annoying horizontal lines scrolling up and down the monitor. I'd take a screenshot, but I don't think it would help. It's not too noticeable unless you are playing a game/movie or looking at a still image.

Comp information is here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=Phenom_II_X4_965-_-83-227-306-_-Product

There were some other problems, but I think I have them solved so this is my main concern atm. I am guessing it's the GPU or PSU, but I'm really hoping you guys will help me out here. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also, temps seem to be fine and I have not OC'd.

When I correspond with certain people, both of our computers add lines down the side when we hit Reply. The only way to get rid of them is to copy the text & start a new email. I'm using OE 6, and in one case the other person is using some Mac program (or possibly she goes online to Verizon, her carrier, & uses their email program. She's not clear on what does her email - her son set it up). What's causing those annoying lines? (The text also becomes one entity that I could delete by clicking somewhere in the text & hitting Delete.)

A:Solved: Lines in email

Those "lines" indicate the email was either replyed to or forwarded.
In OE if you do not want the lines, go here and turn them off:

OE->Tools->Send Tab.
If you are setup in HTML click that button-> make sure Indent is
unchecked.

If you are in Text Mode click that button-> make sure Indent is

I am working on an Excel document that is rather large. (When printed it comes out to be several pages). When I print it I'd like the top row to appear on each of the columns.

Basically, what I am saying is that when I print it.. lets say.. in Row A I had:
Name Date Comments

And I want this to appear on each page when it is printed.

Would I put that as a header? I wasn't sure if it would line up properly or not so its properly over each column. Any input?

I found these very useful for my particular kind of work. They were ignored by the printer, which was good. Recently these lines disappeared from my templates and I am having to make do with completely blank sheets to make up my documents. I cannot understand this, and I have been unable to restore the facility because the lines have disappeared from all my previously stored documents. I just cannot find the answer. Can anyone help? Hello Good Morning Thanks for reading this.

I made a form. I put some VBA Code in it. I added some form fields, buttons and some checkboxes on a user form. I am not sure what the up and down arrows are called but I have a bunch of those. The form is perfect for what i need, except, when i print the workbook there are three horizonal dashed oddly spaced lines printing. I can not see them in the normal view, i can not see them in the page break preview. I see a few dashed squiggles in the print preview in the place that the lines print, but I can not for the life of me figure out how they got there. I tried to delete in the cell, i tried to adjust the line settings by changing size and color. i tried to cover the spot with a white text box. i tried to delete the entire row. then i tried to delete the entire top part of my form the lines just moved closer to the top of the page. then i tried to see if a copy and paste helped (although I did it into another worksheet in the same workbook) it just took the lines when i pasted. i even tried, edit, goto, special, objects and the action was to select the first text box i have on the form. I believe that the lines might have appreared after inserting a form field (button i think) and then moving it to a different location. I am using Excel 2002 and if anyone has any idea of what is going on here, i would really be greatful for the help!

Thanks!!!!!

Not sure this is the correct place to post, as I don't know what the problem IS but it is brand new tonight. I noticed this after installing two Big FIsh demo games, playing a short time and uninstalling them. I think I have also cleaned out all files related to those two games from the registry. Then I rebooted.

Now, everything on my desktop has white motion lines on the right side. It looks similar to dragging a box across the screen that leaves a trail. I have checked my monotor settings, nothing there helps. Not sure what else I should do next, but this DOES seem related to the games. I did get a screen shot if someone needs to see that.

Any help will be appreciated. While waiting for any replies, I will run adaware and spybot AND clean out my cookies and temp files, which I do anyway several times a day.

Thank you.

Greetings ^_^,

I've been working on a problem with my computer that appears to manifest itself in the constant crashing of a particular game of mine, Morrowind.

I've been corresponding with tech support at bethsoft and have a thread .

Bethsoft recently sent me this response.

"After reviewing your MSINFO report I see a few things that need to be corrected. You have several IRQ issues which really need to be sorted out. Your report indicates that your Ethernet adaptor and you System Cmos/realtime clock are sharing an IRQ address which they should not be. Also the IRQ assignments for several of your devices appear to be invalid.
IRQ 128 ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 7500 OK
IRQ 116 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2 OK
IRQ 117 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C4 OK

IRQ 125 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM SMBus Controller - 24C3 OK

Hello

I hope someone will be able to help me - I have either a monitor or graphics card problem. My display is showing patches of red vertical lines.

I was playing Fallout 3 two days ago and the display was fine. I loaded it yesterday to play and the deepest black areas of the shadows were showing as patches of red vertical lines. I changed the game's graphics settings and patched it, but it made no difference. Today I was looking at some of my photos on an online storage site and noticed that the deep black areas are showing as red vertical lines too. However, it is not as noticeable on the photos as it is in the game.

The attached pic is a screenshot of one of the photos I was viewing that shows the red lines. When playing Fallout 3 the lines are more prevalent.

My question is, is this monitor related or is it my graphics card?

PC specs are:
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 932GW (Digital)
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 7300 GT
Processor: Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
Ram: 2GB
Running Windows XP

Thanks

Hi there,
I was recently hijacked by a babylon affiliate malware, and was able to remove everything quite easily, except for one problem.
Every time I opened a new tab, it would open an affiliate babylon search page.

After some searching, I found the culprit!
Firefox's prefs.js file was modified, to include a number of preferences that would cause the url to come up when a new tab is opened.

I could go through and manually fix it myself, but I thought that if others have the same problem, and come across my question, they might want an easier solution.
My solution would be a batch file (or vbs file) that will search "prefs.js" for lines containing the word "babylon" in it, and remove all of those lines.
Each preference setting is separated by a new paragraph line.

As an example for what I'm after, lets say the file contains the following lines in it:

user_pref("CT2737658..clientLogIsEnabled", true);
user_pref("CT2737658..clientLogServiceUrl", "http://clientlog.users.conduit.com/ClientDiagnostics.asmx/ReportDiagnosticsEvent");

Hi, I'm just wondering, is it possible through batch, to search through a text file for particular lines and copy those lines to a text file?

for example...
If we have saved a web page to a text file, and we want to extract a list of user id's from this web page.

Lets say that in this website we have some random lines of html everywhere making up the web page,
Then at one part, there are a bunch of lines like this:

username=bob
href="http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=87967" />

username=charly
href="http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=79945" />

username=harry
href="http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=39902" />Click to expand...

I want to make the batch file search through the text file for these lines, and log them into a text to look like so:

http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=87967
http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=79945
http://www.website.com/visit_member.php?&id=39902

Any idea how I could acheive this?

Hi all,

I replaced an LCD monitor recently because it would have these faint horizontal images that would occur anytime a window was open. The faint lines would be a continuation of the top and bottom of the open window(s), continuing across each side of the screen. It was an old monitor so after a cursory look at settings, I just replaced w/ a new one. However, now the new one does it! I changed refresh rates, resolution and tried to update the driver all to no avail. Has anyone come across this problem before?

Thanks!

I've been using a 19" Samsung SyncMaster 931bf LCD monitor for about 4 or 5 months now. I bought it brand new. Now I'm noticing that all printed words (including these words) have a gray, smudged line to the right of them. It gradually fades away toward the right side of the screen.

Is this common?

Besides taking it back, is there anything I can do to get rid of the smudging?

Thanks,

A:Solved: Lines smudging on LCD monitor

If you can try it on another computer to see if it does teh same thing, it would help tell you if this were a monitor problem or video card. It could also be a driver issue with the video card. Or try a different monitor on this computer to see if it does the same thing.

Hey all,
This question is more intended for the experienced members of this site, especially the brigade of brave and highly competent individuals who, day and night, stand post to rescue and safeguard our machines from the attacks of a few sick b****rds:

What do you use to protect your machines?

I have Norton Internet Securities and Norton Ghost. Wel.. that's what I purchased at half price (£25 !!) when I bought this PC last Christmas... just paid the new fee... the salesman said it would do everything.. even make tea!
Somehow I feel that whatever I paid wasn't really worth it as it did not prevent my machine from getting infected...

Following my recent big cleanup, which a senior member of this site helped me with (thanks a million!), I had to use all sorts of other tools (SmitFraudFix / Pandas' Active-scan / Hijackthis / AVG Anti-spyware etc) and I do see on other threads that many more are being used by the big "mechanics/doctors" of this site...
SO... what's the best solution / concept / configuration / compilation ???

Looking fwd to read your suggestions.
Cheers,

I'm a pretty advanced PC user, and i've been fixing my own problems for years. But...recently, i've had a really big problem.

Check this out:

http://img19.imageshack.us/i/1003780y.jpg/

That is a picture of what's happening. I get these weird horizontal lines sometimes that are copied from other windows that are open. A few things I've noticed:

1. It doesn't happen in all applications, for example, it doesn't happen in any games i play.
2. It's definitely not a virus, or any interference.
3. I have the latest drivers for my video card, a geforce 9400gt, and no driver set i try fixes the problem.
4. Turning the hardware acceleration slider down 3 levels until directdraw and direct3d are disabled actually fixes the problem, that's why i'm pretty sure it's a driver/hardware issue. There's no way i'm keeping this turned down, many applications run really slow if it's turned down, anyways, it's annoying having to manually turn the slider up and down when i need to.

That's usually a sign of a faulty graphics card. I would test the card in another computer or have it tested at a shop.

I have an aged monitor connected to a backup computer. The monitor has started displaying black horizontal lines across the width of the screen, and covers about 2/3 of the viewing area. It gets progressively worse as it continues to operate. I assume the monitor is going, but before I replace it, can I be sure it's the monitor, and not the video card/power supply?

You can if you swap the monitor temporarily with another and see if the problem remains or shifts.

I'm using IE 9, 32-bit but this also happens on 64-bit. My computer specs are to the left. Sometimes when scrolling in a forum edit box I get these lines. Also, especially in this forum, the text insertion point (not mouse cursor) sometimes disappears, which may be related. Has anyone noticed something similar?

Any chance you're scrolling before image is fully loaded? Since it hasn't been reported elsewhere and it would be difficult to replicate, as well as your hardware being more than adequate that would be my first thought.

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, and I've been unable to solve this problem. Perhaps someone out there can provide some guidance.

Sometimes, I'm unable to print things (such as online coupons) because I'm told that my printer is set to "Keep Printed Documents." I've tried disabling this setting via the Advanced tab under the printer's properties. However, when I do this, click Apply then OK, and close the tab, the setting automatically reverts back to "Keep Printed Documents". Does anyone know why this is happening? It's sort of frustrating to not be able to set the printer settings the way you choose.

I appreciate any tips/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Hello Techies;

Does anyone know how to take a page or pages from a scanned set of documents in it's PDF format to copy and save those copied pages into it's own PDF document? The goal for it to be easy for people to do on a regular basis? We currently have Adobe reader. Would having Adobe writer help with this?
So for example, we'd scan 100 pages of different documents into 1 large PDF file. Then the need would be to extract one or more of the 100 pages into it's own PDF. Say a copy/paste type of function. This is for a workflow process at the company I work for. Anyone know of software (better version of Adobe?) or tools for this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a IBM thinkpad T23 laptop. When I try to start it up it boots only to many lines of different colors. It has a whirring sound (similar to that when a cd won't start up) coming from inside the body of the laptop.
The fan is working, the light on the keyboard (Z) lights up, however the emblem for the hard drive does not light up. It takes many tries to just get the colors to come up, most of the time there is a blank screen.
I have tested the RAM, pulled the DVD drive (also checked for a disk), nothing else is hooked to the computer except the AC adapter, the battery is fairly good, not dead.
Any ideas???

Hello everyone,

I desperately need help with my laptop, since it has been acting really weird lately.
Often, there are either, or a combination of pink vertical lines, green horizontal lines or pink waves on my screen. Sometimes it doesn't happen for days, sometimes for hours. Sometimes it helps to put the laptop off for a while. Changing the DPI doesn't help, and I downloaded and installed the latest NVIDIA driver, without any luck. I do have a seperate screen, but for some reason it doesn't show up at 'screen resolution' when I connect it (which is weird, because it was fine before). Also, sometimes it shows a message 'Your computer was unable to restart. Startup Repair is checking your system for problems.'

I have Windows 7, and an Asus G1S. I really hope someone can give me some advise on this.

I recently purchased an ASUS VH197D LED monitor, which is connected via VGA. I've been having problems with the monitor where there are vertical strips of blurry/fuzzy pixels across the screen. These move around when I auto-adjust the monitor, so I know it's not damaged or dirty screen. Here are some images:

http://pic.twitter.com/CoJDjwwJ
http://pic.twitter.com/oe7NQy6S
http://pic.twitter.com/xFC9ArHa

I downloaded the most recent driver for the graphics card (Catalyst), which hasn't helped, and since downloading this it doesn't allow me to select the native screen resolution for the monitor 1366 x 768 anymore. The nearest option is 1360 x 768.

I've tried replacing the VGA cable, no joy.

I've contacted ASUS - they were a ball of rubbish, and suggested pressing the reset button.

Do you guys know what might be causing this? I'll be so grateful, as this has consumed my week!!

I'm using Notepad to convert a resume produced in MS Word from a .doc to a .txt file. I've gone through each line numerous times and no matter what I do there are certain lines that end up with an extra line in between them as if there's a carriage return in there.

'Word Wrap' is on.

Here's what it's doing:

Managing a consulting firm specializing in improving the effectiveness of operations while improving bottom line performance

and profitability results. Areas of focus include ‘Common Sense’ Management, Lean Manufacturing, Materials Management,

Logistics, Strategic/Operations Planning, Customer Service, and Profitability Improvement.

Whereas it should read:

Managing a consulting firm specializing in improving the effectiveness of operations while improving bottom line performance and profitability results. Areas of focus include ‘Common Sense’ Management, Lean Manufacturing, Materials Management, Logistics, Strategic/Operations Planning, Customer Service, and Profitability Improvement.

Even when I edit it to eliminate the lines they show up again when I print it.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks.

Does anyone know of any software that can do this?

I have a hp dv6000 running vista that has recently put a lot of horizontal lines in the monitor. They are lines that are discolored and make it very hard to read, like it's every other line of resolution. I have raised my font to get through a project, but need to get this fixed or get a new laptop. A local repair shop said it was probably the monitor ribbon cable, that's where they would start. They wanted around one hundred dollars for the cable and time, and it may not solve the problem. My thought, is that the cable would be an intermittent problem, power would be black screen, and vid card would be black screen. The laptop runs as usual, its just missing half the info on the monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? The laptop is disassembled because I was going to order a new LCD for it, but came here before clicking on buy.

A:Solved: Laptop monitor has horizontal lines

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Any repair place worth its salt should have a look at the machine and do some tests (which may cost an hour of time) before suggesting a replacement part, which may not even be the faulty component.

If you can get the laptop back together and do a simple test (below) it can help to narrow down where the fault lies. It could be the LCD, the Graphics Card, RAM or a cable / connector, drivers or something else, hard to say at this point.

Plug the laptop into an external screen and see if the problem occurs there. If it doesn't then it could be the LCD itself or a cable / connector between the GPU and LCD. If the problem occurs on the external monitor it is more likely to be a problem with the GPU itself which would likely require the entire motherboard being replaced.

I have Word 2007 with Windows 7 home edition.

I need to sometimes insert lines (arrow lines and text box lines) either thicker or in bold. These are the lines that text boxes are composed of and that text goes inside. So the outside lines of the box should be darker and thicker than normal, for emphasis. How are thick lines (also thick ARROW LINES) and thick text box outline lines done?

A:Solved: Thick lines with Word 2007

Under the FORMAT pull down, there is a section called "Borders & Shading". If you select that you can set the width of the border under the WIDTH box.

Hope someone can help me here

I'm running a Dell Dimension E520 with Vista home user. It's out of warranty.
My kids were watching a video on it, when it suddenly froze (both sound and graphics). I tried everything, down to ctrl+alt+del to stop the program, but eventually, I pulled the power supply to kill it.
Here's where my problems really started.

When I rebooted, the entire screen was black except for a series of vertical lines (first in green, then turning white). These lines are grouped together, in groups of four. They are very regular in spacing and very clear. At some point in the boot process, the Dell logo appears - the lines do not run through the Dell logo. Also, the Microsoft Win startup logo, with the moving green bar, displays correctly. This to me indicates that it's not a hardware/graphics card fault (but not sure on this point).
At some point in the boot process, the screen goes black and remains that way - for about 30 mins now and counting. The only way of shutting down/restarting is pulling the power cable - not great, I know.

I ran start up repair - it told me it couldn't fix the problem.
I ran last known good config - successful, but still won't boot - same symptoms as above
I tried to run backup from Win Vista operating CD I had gotten with the computer - it said it couldn't find the CD/DVD so that was no good.
I eventually restored to factory default image. It successfully reformatted and reinstalled, but when it ... Read more
