Windows XP wont configure USB Hardware device

Q: Windows XP wont configure USB Hardware device

I have been trying to connect a sandisk card reader to my Dell Laptop on windows XP (home edition), the initial bubble comes up saying USB sandisk device found, and then the second bubble pops up saying hardware not recognised or not working properly. My PC does the same trying to connect a camera or any other new USB device

I have installed the disc that came with the hardware and it still does not work. In device manager its shows up with a yellow exclamation mark over it, and when you open properties it states no drivers found, and it is showing as device enabled

If I then run windows fault fixer to update the drivers, and search for drivers it goes through the stages and then when you click finish it doesnt work still it also moves the hardware shown in device manager into part of IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers with a yellow exclamation mark still showing, when it should really register in the drives section of device manager.

I have connected the sandisk and camera to a friends Dell laptop and windows XP automatically registers it and sets it up, and its listed under the drives section of device manager - with no problems, so it appears to be an issue with the way my plug and play sets up the hardware when its plugged in.

I have checked the status of all my USB controllers under device manager and they are all showing as working.

It may have occured after an IT helpdesk guy was messing with my drivers and setup trying to get my wireless working. All I want to do is change it so as soon as something is connected windows registers it correctly as it does on my friends PC

Any help fixing this would be very much appreciated.

Try Johnwill's USB solution:

First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.

Hi All,
I have been doing lot of reading and looking around but cannot seem to get past this problem. I recently bought a new HP laptop, i7 processor, Navidia GT6300M video card, 8 GB RAM. HP original windows come with so much bloatware and have so many problems that i want to do a fresh clean windows 7 install on the machine.
So i got a bootable windows 7 USB drive, actually i downloaded windows 7 home premium from internet and used windows 7 usb tool to make usb drive.
When i go install it, first i come to partition table, HP has four partitions, one system and one recovery and two other small ones. I have tried installing after removing all partitions and make just one system drive, i have also tried keeping the paritions and install on system drive. Every time it goes through the install, reboots, does get through updates and all and on the last part gives the above statement and then i cannot get anything to work. I am able to restreo back to factory using recovery discs so windows work that way.
I tried installing intel RTS driver before windows installation as suggested by microsoft, however after doing that, setup cannot find the hard drive and cannot install so does not even go as far as above.
Any Help with this will be appreciated. It is a laptop so opening and removing additional hardware is not an option.
Thanks

Read through these steps for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 including the Special Notes for HP Owners at bottom.

Check in Disk Mgmt that there is no EFI Boot partition as you may have an EFI BIOS requiring special steps.

If not follow the tutorial to see if it will install. If not wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command accessing DISKPART At PC Startup

Hello to everyone. I am having a problem installing windows vista Home Premium x64 using the recovery disks order from HP and keep getting "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware".
Computer Specs:
Hp Touchsmart IQ506
P/N: KQ437AA-ABA
Intel Core 2 Duo
Original HDD: Seagat 500GB SATA
Build ID: 83NAv6XrA5 (Recovery Disk sent by HP Build ID 83NAv6XrA3)

So my original HDD crash and I bought a new hard drive (WD Caviar Green 1TB). The recovery disks I created did not work so I order them from the HP website. I follow the system recovery instructions choose advanced options and selected "Reset the computer by erasing the entire drive and recreating the factory setup". Once that step is done it says that windows setup is going to finish the installation and I click the finish button and the computer restarts. Then a dos windows pops up showing mainly Build partition was successful and then a grey background with a animation of two folders transferring files. Then it restarts and I get the same animation which takes a longer and finally windows setup starts with a progress bar on the bottom and once it gets 3/4 completed I get a pop windows saying "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". I thought it might be the WD Hard Drive so I exchange it for a Seagate Barracuda 1TB but still the same problem. I will appreciate any help and thank for reading my post.

I tried installing windows with my acer recovery dvd's but it didn't work. I tried installing windows with a Windows installation dvd, but it didn't work.

I checked all the hardware according to the advices of the members in the solved post, with the same title. Nothing changed, the install would not complete. I performed all the steps given in those posts without success.

I'd like to repair my computer with your help. Somewhere on the Internet some people said that the installation log was to be found at the panther directory in windows. So I saved it on a pen drive.

Thanks!

I am typing on my phone so hopefully you know my situation just by that!

I had just replaced my hard drive from my sony vpccw29gx. It was corrupt. I bought a different brand hard druve, but same rpm.

I ordered the recovery disks from sony. I installed the disks, but after the windows 7 installed, it restarted, then when it booted, it sais "starting services", then said windows could not install on my hardware.

I calldd sony back, and they sent me ANOTHER set that were supposedly the right ones. I went through the process and yet again, the error came up.

Hello Community! I have a problem. Im just installing Windows 7 on the following system, and i am getting the above error. (All brand new items).

i5 2500k
8gb ddr1600 Corsair
Asus P8P67 B3 rev 3.1
LG DVD Burner on SATA 3g
Mouse/Keyboard on USB

HDDs in Bios set to RAID
Windows7 home premium x64

Anyone got a clue? installs fine, in the end when its doing the config it gives me the error. Is it any of the hardware or is it getting confused with the raid? oh, the MB has two 6G connectors, one set of Marvel and one of Intel. Im using the intel with Rapid Storage Technology and set the disks up in the Boot Utility from intel.

Thanks a lot!

A:Install Err: Windows Cannot Configure to Hardware in Your Computer

Win7 doesn't much like dated RAID. Try installing to one HD plugged in alone and set to AHCI in BIOS. Unplug all peripherals.

Next try removing all but 2gb RAM to try install.

Check for newer BIOS update on Asus website. If none, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Next wipe the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If install makes it to installing drivers and stalls, use this method to enter Device Manager and uninstall any Device(s) in error to let install complete, then update driver(s) from the Desktop: Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

So I got out the recovery DVD's that I made when I purchased the laptop. Did what the directions told me to do and I received this message. I tried rebooting but no luck. What do I do next? I am also wondering if the Windows Update may have corrupted my BIOS or something. The laptop has had no problems for almost two years. It was running perfectly. The laptop works fine with my Mint Linux USB. Thanks for your help.

Wireless charger DT-903 on Lumia 930 running Windows 10 Mobile.
On the previous versions of windows 8.1 you could simply find the wireless charger in the devices hub and configure how it will notify you if you have a missed call or text message.
Now on the Windows 10 mobile I can't find any option to configure the wireless chager even though it is connected through bluetooth with the phone. The tap to pair using NFC works on it. If you have NFC on, and tap the phone against the charger it automatically connects to it through BT.
Any ideas ?

Hey. I was recently using my computer, when I got the message, "potentially harmful software detected." I clicked the take action option, but nothing happened. So, I turned off my tower, and turned it back on. It wouldn't get to the user sign in process. It just kept with it's blank screen. So, I've had a similar problem before, so I reset my computer to factory condition, since I don't have anything vital on it. I ran start up repair, which worked fine. I ran tests which worked fine and said it passed the entirety of the basic test. I did a more specific hard-drive test, and it passed that. So, I reset the computer to factory condition, and it goes well to that point. But then it gets to the "Setting up services" part of the resetting your computer, and it loads to installing services, but then it will say, "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to this hardware." or something to that affect. Then I'll get a message saying "Windows could not complete installation. Restart instillation." And it'll go no further, even when I reboot. What's wrong? If it helps, I use an HP 2009m. Like I said, I've had to restore to factory conditions before, but I've never gotten this problem.

A:Windows setup cannot configure Windows to hardware? Why?

The warning message sounds like a fake AV scan virus, trying to trick you into running it since it cannot get out of the webpage pop-up unless you run it.

You should have a good AV like free Microsoft Security Essentials with the Win7 Firewall kept up to date via Windows Updates. Relying on factory recovery to protect you is faulty because it can fail as it appears to have done.

If Factory Recovery fails when run from its partition on the HD at boot, your options are to boot the Recovery Disks you should have made when you set up the computer, or order them from Tech Support.

In the case of possible serious infection, I would wipe the HD first: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation. You can run this from a System Repair Disk which also should have been made earlier in case Win7 stops booting so you can repair from disk.

There is another option which is to use a Win7 installation DVD for your version to get a superior Clean Reinstall of the OS using the Product Key on the COA sticker attached to machine. This leaves out all of the Factory Bloatware and useless factory utilties which have much better versions in Win7 - this crapware is worst of all on HP's. Here are steps to get a perfect reinstall of just the Win7 OS: Reinstalling Windows 7

And here is the ISO to burn to DVD or write to flash stick using the tool below it: Official ISO Downloads Windows 7 Home Premium x64 English

Hi there,

I am currently trying to upgrade my - admittedly - old desktop PC from XP to Windows 7 32 Bit Professional Version. I downloaded the image from software4students and burned it to the disc and as far as I can tell this is not the problem.

The setup complete the first four stages, restarts and then gets to the last stage of installation and then gives an error; 'Windows cannot configure for the hardware in your computer'.

The specs of my Dell Dimension are:
Intel Pentium 3.0 Ghz processor
3GB DDR2 RAM - Crucial if that matters (Upgraded from 1)
ATI Sapphire Radeon Graphics Card 4670 HD (Upgraded)
80GB SATA HDD
-> These are rough - except for the figures - as I do not have access to them due to formatting the harddrive.

NB: I have upgraded the graphics card and RAM from the originals.
I have been searching forums etc. to find a solution. There seem to be numerous ways to fix this depending on the PC and Windows 7 version. Things I have tried:

- Extending a partition to cover all of the data space.
- Formatting the partition and HDD.
- Changing the HDD to AHCI in the BIOS.

Any help would be much appreciated, otherwise my ?40.00 is down the drain I guess.

PS: I'm not great with hardware so please don't expect me to know how to change the HDD connection to master straight off the bat. I can always look into it if you need me to however, just please be patient.

Thanks!

Hello sabre, welcome to Seven Forums!

There is no upgrade path from Windows XP to Windows 7, it will have to be a clean install and the best way forward, after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, is to do a wipe of the entire Hard Disk Drive, have a look at this information below.

All the installed programs/apps will have to be reinstalled so be sure to save the activation keys where applicable and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format you will end up with the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below. Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.
Either way, running the "clean all" t... Read more

A:2nd Win 7 install not working - Win says cant configure hardware?

Hello mate.

To rule out format errors, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, once the clean finishes, exit diskpart and use the Windows 7 installer to create and format a single 100GB partition to install to.

If that does't work, after another clean, use diskpart to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to see if that works, use Step #2 in the SSD/HDD tutorial for reference. DISKPART : At PC Startup

Hi all,

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, Amilo Li2735, model M52228, which has performed faultlessly for the last 7 years. The HDD has now 'failed' with random corrupted files so I have installed a brand new HDD and attempted a clean re-install using the original DVD system restore discs I made when the laptop was new.

The install appears to go smoothly and goes through the usual screens: Factory Defaults restored successfully, then reboots with 'Please wait while Windows sets up your computer', followed by the (common?) error of 'Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware.'

No changes have been made to the laptop since new, and the original SATA HDD was replaced by a conservative WD 500Gb SATA II drive, which I was told is backwards compatible with SATA.

I would really like to get this laptop working again, so any help would be appreciated. It's been a great piece of kit and for the low cost of a new drive it seems a waste to bin it.

In anticipation - John

I tried finding some information in the archives about this problem but I guess I'm just a tiny bit confused. Anyway, I have a Sony Vaio laptop, model PCG-R505GCP, with a CD RW DVD-ROM. Up until yesterday it was working perfectly fine. I've made no changes to my system. But now I've discovered, through looking in Device Manager that the device cann't be found. This is what's listed in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM drives:

Reboot the laptop into the BIOS by whatever means the opening screen tells you to use to go into setup. In the first of the menus, it should tell you whether or not it recognises the CDRW/DVDROM. Can you please post back one way or the other?

Alternatively, you could try uninstalling it in Device Manager and rebooting, then allow XP to redetect it, hopefully it will work that time.

Hi I have been stupid! Can anyone please provide a solution.

I tried to be clever and load just the jewel case label programme from Roxio CD Creator 5 (which is much better than their latest versions). This was successful and worked well. Unfortunately the CD also loaded much of itself all over my system but only activated the label programme. Vista immediately blocked the incompatible Roxio driver for the DVD drive leaving it in operable.

I uninstalled Roxio 5 using Windows uninstall and activated a prior system restore point. On re-boot, system restore stated it was not successful due to an unknown error and Vista attempted to re-install Roxio 5 calling for the CD. I tried earlier restore points but they were not successful either, producing the same unknown error message.

Eventually I did a system searched for anything Roxio 5 or Adaptec including the offending driver and deleted them all.

Everything is now back to normal except for the DVD drive which is still not recognised. Device Manager shows the following message.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

If anyone can tell me how to give my DVD drive the kiss of life I will be extremely grateful.

Click Start, and then click Shut Down.

Incorrectly editing the registry may severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on your computer.
Notes

To open Registry Editor, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Choosing Last Known Good Configuration provides a way to recover from problems such as a newly added driver that may be incorrect for your hardware. It does not solve problems caused by corrupted or missing drivers or files.
When you choose Last Known Good Configuration, Windows restores information in registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet only. Any changes you have made in other registry keys remain.

Long story short, I tested a friends graphics card in my homebuilt computer to see if it worked. I took my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro out, and put in this other card, and then replaced the other card back with my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, I cannot get the drivers to work again for my 9800.

I have Windows 7, 32 bit. I am positive that I did a fresh install of windows 7, not an upgrade. I cant remember if I installed specific drivers for my graphics card at that time, or if windows did it. All I know is that the card was running good, with two monitors running together. Everything stopped working after I tried my friends card out.

Ive downloaded so many Ati Catalysts, 10.2, 9.3, 9.1, 8.7, 8.1, and also different versions (XP and Vista) and none of them will work. Sometimes it will just say "The current driver is up to date" and its showing the standard VGA graphics adapter. Sometimes it will say "Radeon 9800 PRO installed, reboot now" then when I reboot, it will give me this error
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" when I check device manager. Basically any driver I try will give me this error.

Basically what I was doing was boot into safe mode, use DriveSweeper to delete all ATI files, then reboot and install different catalyst, then go through device manager to "update driver". Then I would get the error above.

So now, In my device manager I have this (both with the exclam... Read more

Have you tried removing both entries from Device Manager?

Clearing the motherboard's CMOS?

This may not be relevant to a 9800 Pro, but see:

I get the feeling that recent AMD/ATI drivers may not like AGP very much. "Recent" may include the 10.2 ones, which are from February of 2010 (2 digit year,1 or 2 digit month).

I recently started having trouble with my DVD writer. this is the error I get " Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" Everything I've researched about this message says to update my driver.  Did this even bought a new dvd player and it says the same thing.  Any suggestions? Wondering could it possible be a bad cable?  Even changed the port on the motherboard to see if it could be that in the new dvd player.
Thanks for any input.

Hello scissorgal54

The Microsoft version of your exact error -

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. To fix this problem you should uninstall and then reinstall the hardware device. (Code 19)

If the device is a CD or DVD drive, follow the procedure in Article ID 929461 on the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=192798).

I plug in my optical cable and 2 new sound devices appear (Seen below).

The first device, Speakers, appears to be my 3 stereo inputs and no sound comes through this device, though the Configure button at the bottom left is clickable. Presumably this is to be expected and is irrelevant as I have no RCA cables plugged in.

The SPDIF Interface is my optical but the configure button is greyed out (Seen below). My Front-Right and Front-Left speakers (out of 5.1) work with this device.

Clicking Properties on the SPDIF Interface, I can go to the Supported Formats tab and test the DTS/Dolby digital formats and all 5 speakers + sub work in the audio test. This sound test is the only way I've been able to get all 5 speakers to work. (Seen below)

There seems to be no way to set this device to play through 5.1 any other way. In the device's Advanced tab, there is no option to set 5.1 (Seen below).

And despite setting 5.1 in my other games and applications, the device will still only play through the 2 front side speakers.

Thus far I have tried the following:
-Installing my onboard sound drivers from my motherboard manafactuer's website.
-Installing my onboard sound drivers from the VIA website.
-Installing the realtek HD audio drivers.
-Installing ffdshow
-Installing k-Lite and CCCP codec packs.

-Samsung SH-S243D/BEBE 24X Black DVD Writer SATA OEM

So I just finished installing and connecting all the hardware, it works, BIOS detects everything, although for some reason HDD is sata3 6gbs and connected in sata3 slot with 6gbs cable marvel controller only displays speed 3gbs(that's not the actual problem though). After exiting BIOS or if I let it run without entering it I get this message.

"Reboot and Select proper boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press any key"

This is WITH a windows 7 x64 DVD that I got from school(I'm in computer science I get windows for free) I have used this disk to install windows 7 on another PC and it worked fine. I set the boot order for the dvd drive first in the BIOS didn't change anything.

This is my last hope before I return everything back to the store,I recently brought a Belkin HIGH -SPEED MODE WIRELESS DESKTOP NETWORK CARD. 802.11g MODEL NUMBER F5D7001. VERSION 1000
I was running window 98 then upgraded to SE didn't work, so then I upgrade my BIOS so i am now running Phoenix award vg.00pg.(not sure if that is configured right yet) still nothing, so i upgraded to windows 2000.and still nothing. my processor is intel celeron 460mzh. 440 chipset family.

windows is not finding the new network card. I am not currently up to date on my updates on 2000 cuz somehow i keep download the online updates, My motherboard is an Asus p2-99(way out of date but since i just upgraded the Bios really hate to go and get a new one, can i update that more so i can down load the card.)

one more thing tried to install my cable modem on that computer and still nothing I got the card installed but cant get the modem installed. so download everything directly to the other computer is out.

What am I missing ,where can I download it.

thanks ahead of time for a very baffled mother who just want her son to have a computer and leave mine alone.

Hi i just put a new copy of windows XP on my dell optiplex GX260. I do not have the driver disk but i think i was able to recover most the drivers online. The reason i am telling you this is because i think it might be a missing driver problem but i am not sure. Any ways.....

I have tryed 3 diffrent pices of hardware. 2 of them being USB internet adapters and the other one is a pci wirless internet card. Non of them will install the drivers. Its kind of weird the USB keyboard and mouse worked. I go to the device manager and it shows a ! icon.

It says the hardware has not been installed because it cannot find the necisary software. Well I did install the CD's one of the adapters does not even come with a cd its just supposed to be poped in, instaled and ready to go. I tested them on another comp and they worked fine.

Maybe there is no connection but I recently had to remove and reinstall Norton Antivirus, part of it was corrupted.

Now when I boot the machine I am getting the warning sound related to "Windows Hardware Fail" or Device Failed to Connect." I get those 4 times at 30 sec intervals then they stop. Looking at Device Manager I see 4 yellow triangles with exclamation points in them, under Portable Devices. This is my memory card reader. In spite of this the reader works fine and I can read and write data to it as needed.

Clicking on one or all of them I get the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

So the question is should I remove all the offending drive's H:\ ...I:\...J:\....K:\ and reboot hoping 7 will find the reader? Or run System File Checker?

In all fairness I don't normally boot the machine with the sound on, I only turn it on when I need it so this condition may have been there for a while, honestly I don't know.

When I went there, I spotted my error problem and tryed to resolve my problem with no luck. I have Windows XP by the way. I have tryed updating my drivers and everything.

I also did a Google search on my problem and found, many hits. I saw that some people may have deleted some good files that may have been a result in this error. I believe this may be the cause of my error too. I may have deleted something off my hard drive that could of been of value to my video card.

I do have a ghosted drive though of my System C and was wondering if that reallyu was my problem.... If I really did delete something of value to my graphics card. If it I believe I can easily repair it with my ghosted System C drive with Norton's, but please tell me if you think it isn't

I got a Spanish Acer Aspire 5315 laptop off a friend, and did a factory reset. I installed SP1 and SP2, and installed the 90 other updates. I then installed Vistalizator to change the language to English.

The laptop now fails when trying to update with these two codes : 800F0826, 8008005. Then when the computer restarts it says " Updates were not configured correctly, reverting changes dont turn off the system" This stays on the screen from 5mins to 5hours! Usually I have to turn it off anyway and turn it back on to make it work quicker.

The laptop works fine anyway, however I know that the updates are important.

Windows help is about as much use as a plastic teapot, and when I looked it up online I found that alot of people are having this problem, especially with Acer ( although not all of them were Acer users) These people usually had there hard drive partioned with Linux on one partion and that was the main problem, however i dont have this, i only have the C and D partions as normal, and I cant find a fix.

Ive reset it 5 times to try and sort it but it just wont work. The only way so far is by just ignoring the updates.

Any ideas?

Am unfamiliar with UEFI and want to configure the DVD drive as primary boot for disk imaging etc.
However I can't see it listed in the bootable devices.

PC Specialist doesn't seem to provide any documentation or tutorial on this.

Options in boot devices are
- Samsung SSD (well, that must be what it is..)
- IP4 Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller
- IP6 Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller

Nothing about the DVD drive or USB devices...

Thanks!

One of the laptops at work is having issues, and I think someone with monkey hands screwed something up. As "the computer guy", it's on me to get it fixed.

His Windows 7 computer will not connect to a wifi network. It can detect them (so I know the radio is on), but after half a beat, I get that "windows was unable to connect" message".

Thinking it was the internal card, I connected my external antenna, and got the same error. So I think I can rule out hardware. I tried using an identical laptop from work, and that one connected with no problem. So I think I can rule out any issues with my router.

I've updated all the possible drivers on the computer, Windows is up to date, and i've disabled IPV6.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting, I'm hoping someone can help me with my issue here.

I have a Dell Latitude E6510, everything was working fine for over a year, I recently installed a set of windows recommended patches, after which myUSB port stopped working, what's worse, if I stick somethign in, like a memory stick, or even just a mouse, the response times start to get slow, and after about 10 minutes or so it usually freezes the laptop, requiring a hard boot.

Not sure if this is related, but I also had Intuit QuickBooks installed, and it got hosed up too. I was able to work through it after 3 hours with Intuis support, but seemed pretty crazy. They had to fix some .Net Framework, MSXML, and Visual C (or C++) related components. Both issues, QuickBooks and the USB ports, were affected at, or around, the same time.

Searching on google again I came across this site, and a thread that looked very promising, with a link to a Microsoft patch, however it looks like I don't have the same chipset, though edxperiencing the same problem. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to a similar fix for my system.

For reference, here is the link that was referred in that other thread: You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM

The organisation would like all their users to have access to the internet. The business has requested that you configure an internet gateway for their users in the office.

The meeting identifies it needs to incorporate the following requirements:

1. Internet service via a reputable service provider

All of my USB Ports just stopped working. When I go to the device manager and check them I get the code 19 error:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.

I wasn't even in the registry and I have no idea how to restore the old settings that are apparently damaged.

I check microsoft and they said this:

A registry problem was detected.

This can occur when more than one service is defined for a device, if there is a failure opening the service subkey, or if the driver name cannot be obtained from the service subkey. Try these options:

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration, which rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration.
I did all those things and they still do not work. I think it is likely that I'll have to manual restore the registry valves for each USB port - but I have no idea how.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I am having a horrible night. Please someone show me how to fix this in the registry. I do not have system restore running so I can't use that. I hope no one ever has luck like this...

You might have noticed that the old 'Add Legacy Hardware' option seems to be missing. I tend to use this quite a bit whenever I need to add in a Loopback adapter or some piece of hardware that is not quite installing correctly. With that said, thankfully, you can still manually launch the 'Add Legacy Hardware' Control Panel applet by using hdwwiz.exe.http://blog.tiensivu.com/aaron/ ** https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Aaron.Tiensivu

And that up there is the error message, i havnt downloaded anything i just pressed the button on the cd/dvd drive and my computer shut down and when i turned it back on nothing it it worked.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Im practilly computer illiterate so please be easy on the big words and stuff =]

A:Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted

Please try the steps below:

1. Uninstall all third-party burning software, such as Nero and Roxio.

2. Perform a Clean Boot to test the result.

Clean Boot

========
a. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.

Note: Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.

b. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
c. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
d. Restart the computer and test the issue.

Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment. If the issue disappears, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

If the issue persists, please contact your computer manufacturer to check if the DVD drive is damaged.

If not, you may need to restore the system to its factory settings.

Hope it helps.

A:I can't update PXI Hardware HID Complaint Device in windows update

This appears to be a process-share error.
I suspect that you may have multiple instances of the same process running and Windows is getting confused.
This is sometimes the case with Malware, and sometimes a problem with an AV - but there are other causes.

What AV is currently installed? What other Security software is installed?

See the advice here Windows Update error 80070020 - Windows Help
follow that, and post back with the results.

If you're still unable to install the updates,
Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

At startup I am getting a "found new hardware" dialogue box. Specifically a PCI Device of which I truly believe I don't have or at least after cancelling the installation of the driver a hundred times I am obviously not missing whatever it thinks I should have.

At startup I get the dialogue box then go into the found new hardware wizard... search for a suitable driver... uncheck floppy, cd's etc... let it do its scan thing... and finish with... disable the device. Until next time I startup its the same thing over again.

I am running Win2000 Pro and have no wires plugged in other than a serial for the HP 3030 printer/fax and the two usb's for the mouse and keyboard. I tried finding something in Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and view devices by connection and all that but I really don't know what I'm looking for.

Is there something I can printout to show you to see where it would be coming up with this new hardware thing and make it stop?

Thanks,

I recently installed a new motherboard and processor on my computer and naturally I had to reinstall WINDOWS (XP Pro - I also reinstalled SP1). Everything appears to have gone well and all my previous settings have been retained BUT now there is an unknown device in the Device manager hardward list.
All the peripherals I have installed on my computer are present and accounted for. If I try to remove the mystery device, WINDOWS automatically detects the "new hardware " and trys to install it. But it can neither identify it nor find the appropriate driver. And neither can I.
The computer works fine with the device inactive or disabled and is actually quite speedy so I am tempted to just "leave well enough alone", but in truth I am just too anal retentive for that(LOL).
Is there anyway I can figure out what this is and correct it? If Windows can't figure it out and process of elimination with regard to the known hardward offers no clue, how can I determine what it is? I have been careful to make sure that all the onboard devices that I am not using are disabled in the BIOS SETUP. (I have checked and rechecked ).
The motherboard: ELITE GROUP K7S5A v3.1 gets good reviews on the internet but support is apparently virtually non-existant...so there is little hope for help from that quarter.
I would appreciate it if others would share their ideas on this.
Thanks!

Hi,
Is there a way to install a piece of hardware in a Windows image, or via group policy by hardware Id, i.e. without installing the actual hardware? I have Windows 7 in a VDI setup. All of the endpoints have the same logitech USB headset attached. Each time
a user begins a session on a new VM, after a recompose, Windows installs the USB headset and asks for a reboot. I want to eschew the reboot part of that by telling Windows the hardware Id beforehand. I'd like to go into the datacenter and just plug in the
USB headset to where the VDI VMs are located, but that option is not available or practical. I have the hardware Ids for the headset, I just need to know where to tell Windows 7 about them. The headset requires no specific drivers from Logitech, they work
out of the box, except for the reboot.
Thanks

Briefly, any attempts to reinstall network adapter driver for onboard component and also for the just-bought-and-installed in PCI-E slot network adapter results in the message: Cannot install drivers. No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer.
Details (lots):
Hardware: Acer Aspire M5811 with Win7 Home Premium 64bit Motherboard is a Foxconn P55M01 with onboard Intel(R) 82578DC Gigabit Network Connection
Driver it had at the time it stopped working was 11.2.19.0
Basically the family member who owns this PC stated the network stopped working mid task. (Yes, it was a safe site, they are not that type) Couple of hours on the phone with the internet provider ended with a "The problem is at your end, nothing we can do..." spiel. Understandable once I had the PC delivered to me and went into the device manager to see a row of yellow triangles for every network component.
Rebooted into safe mode with networking. Ran Norton Internet Security. Ran Malwarebytes. Nothing. No internet. Green and orange lights at network port. OK I think. Lets reinstall the drivers. Go to Acer website. Get drivers. Will not install. Says it cannot find any network device. Restart PC and go into BIOS. Onboard LAN is enabled there. Get newer driver from Intel website (nice to have 2 PCs) and same thing.
Fine, enough mucking around. Empty PCI-E 1x slot just begging for a network card. Go buy the Intel(R) Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter. Follow the proper grounding / powered dow... Read more

I have an older client who has a Windows 7 desktop with a standalone HP Scanner and a printer.  For some reason, when using the copy function (which is meant to send the scan to the printer) the printout is light.  It will usually print straight lines and text okay but not print anything hand-written.  The parts of the document that are not 'thick' seem to get lost in the translation.  Very strange.  It also will not auto-crop correctly.

At any rate, I'm wondering if anyone has come up against the more common problem of the HP/Brother/Canon scan software being a complicated mess and can recommend an aftermarket solution.

I have two choices:

1. Use the existing scanner and printer, but better, simpler, more configurable software
2. Recommend an all-in-one unit that is inexpensive and is proven to work well for an extended period of time.

Just so I don't waste anyone's time, I've already searched around a bit and don't need anyone to search for me - I just want to know someone's solutions that have worked for them.  It seems to me that a lot of us have had clients or family members say "I just want to push one of two buttons and have one of two things happen" and I want to know if anyone has a easy cut and dry method to make that happen - even if it's just a favorite brand or model of multifunction printer.

Can an outdated Peripheral be the cause for problems or incompatibility? I know that a USB 3.0 port would not be used to its full potential if a USB 1.1 flash drive would be plugged in. I am asking this in relation to my Video Card and Monitor, I am currently using a Dell LCD Monitor from about 5-8 years ago... I would like to know if the monitor could be the reason for FPS drops or such. Thats all and Thank You!

A:Hardware and Peripheral/Device Question

I think I can safely say that it is is no way your monitor that is the problem. The problem is that Geforce 210 video card you have. That card even when it was new was the lowest of the low end, and not much faster than what was available from Intel for integrated graphics. It was also never really made for gaming, more of a low cost HTPC option than anything.

You want to stop FPS drops and slowdowns, you're going to have to get a better video card.

I select yes windows looks for a driver but cannot find one. I have looke in device manager for anything that is amiss. The only thing I can find out is that it is a plug & play item, no specific name or anything to tell me what it maybe. Hello,
I am having some trouble with a Merlin C201 card, which is a wireless phone/card/modem. The service provider is Sprint Wireless Web. The OS is Windows XP Tablet PC edition. The computer is a Gateway.

Anyways, when I go into the Sprint App to connect I get the message: "Hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)."

I have called Sprint twice, twice was transferred to a "tier 2 technician" and was hung up on twice (I might have thought it was a mistake if it had happened just once). One of the technicians, before he pretended to put me on hold and hung up on me suggested that I reinstall the drivers. I have done this and the problem persists. In device manager, the modem and the status port for the modem check out fine (no question marks by them), however when I went into Modem properties and did "query modem" I received a message that said :Error 00000020 "Another app is using this port", or something close to that. So far as I know, no other application could possibly be using the port unless it is Windows itself using it.

Any idea what might be wrong. I doubt its the card itself. The status light flashes when it is plugged in. The computer detects the card upon entry and exit.

Hello,

Still trying to find out why the Ports, Coms, etc don't show anywhere in Device Manager.

I noticed an old Post where it said to look in add/Remove Hardware.
Where do I find this Add/Remove Hardware option, please ?

There was also a Post to check the BIOS for this and to see if PORTS is set to Auto.
How, please.

And, if anyone has any thoughts on how to have the Ports show up in Device Manager, would be appreciative. I am fairly certain that at one time they did.
Can't imagine what might have happened.

Thanks,

Devices and Printers is probably what you are looking for to add a device. My Device Manager shows "Ports (COM &LPT)" This is in Windows 7. I notice you have XP and don't remember where it is in XP. Posting in an XP forum would probably be better than this Windows 7 forum.

Here's my problems:

1. I am to fix this computer for a friend of mine. It's a HP Pavilion 6735 KR.
2. My idiot friend lost the HP Recovery CDs that came with it.

5. I have only a vague idea what the Graphics, Audio, Modem, and NIC are, so I don't know what drivers to look for.
6. HP Support has no drivers for download, and no useful details about the system.

HP's so-called support site is a worthless waste of my valuable time. This is what I was able to find out about the machine:

Audio: Crystal AC'97 (Not enough info for Driverguide.com to find anything)
Modem: HP Mac 56k Lt Win Modem (I have no clue where to begin with this)
NIC: Nothing. It could be anything. It could be a end-user add-in for all I know.

Note: I can pull the HDD and install it as a secondary in my system, but where on the disk would I look for driver specs in an HP factory WinME install?

It has Intel 810 chipset: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scr...ctID=178&OSFullName=Windows*+98+SE&submit=Go!
So you want the Chipset INF, Application INF, Graphics and Audio driver.

The modem is from Lucent/Agere: http://www.agere.com/support/client/modem_dinstruct.html

For the Ethernet I would just look at the card itself to identify it. Look for teh model number ofr the chipset type. You can also use Everest to identify the card once you have a working O/S on it. Look under Device -> Physical Devices and the Ethernet card will be listed.

Of course the easiest thing to do is keep Windows ME on it. You could even order new Recovery CD's and then you wouldn't lose any Microsoft Works programs in it or worry about drivers.
