Driver for WinXP Pro on Dell Computer

Q: Driver for WinXP Pro on Dell Computer

I just got a second-hand Dell Optiplex GX260. The original purchaser bought it with XP pre-loaded, and had only the reinstallation CD, which I got. Unfortunately, the CD says "This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers." This apparently is true as I'm finding that I have to use the device mfr's disk to get drivers whenever I attach something to the computer. I was wondering if there's a separate driver disk that came with computer (the guy I bought from doesn't recall), and if so, where I can get one. I tried calling Dell, but got tired of pressing and holding.

Hello. Does anyone know if USB drivers written for Windows XP will work with Windows XP Embedded?
Thanks.

A:WinXP / WinXP Embedded USB Driver Interoperability

XP Embedded is supposedly a componentized version of Window XP. It's intended for OEM's developing an embedded computer, usually for some industrial or large commercial application, rather than your run-of-the-mill PC.

Hi again after a long absence...

So the title says it, several questions about installing latest drivers on new N7110, windows 7:

Is it really necessary to 1) set a restore point, and 2) reboot after each driver install? Tell me it ain't so...

Bonus question: The 7 search is.... a problem... for me. Would someone point me toward a xp-like search utility to find and dump the crapware Dell installed? I need to be able to see everything and drill through it systematically - like I could with XP search. A FREE program would be preferable.

Thanks.

To clarify, not ALL driver updates require reboot, but almost all, and I've read elsewhere to set a restore point with each. BTW, some new drivers require TWO reboots, one after uninstalling the old driver, then again after installing the new one. Sheesh! I get the reason(s) for individual restore points and reboot, but 23-46 times?

A:dell driver updates on new computer

No, you do not have to create a restore point after each driver - though there's no harm in doing so either. And no, you don't have to reboot after EVERY driver is installed, only certain ones (such as the motherboard / chipset driver). Others can be installed "in bunches" with a reboot after 4 or 5. But why are you installing 23-46 drivers - or am I misreading that????

Also, I just don't use system restore. I use disc imaging, which is a much better solution IMO.

And last, as for what you refer to as "crapware", you have a couple of choices:

1) Just do a clean install - that's what I do every time I get or setup a new system or
2) Open Programs & Features and go through each app that is installed, Google it, and decide if you want to keep it or uninstall it

I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit on a Dell Dimension 1100 computer. Afterwards I noticed that all or alot of the drivers were missing so I went to look them up on my laptop and download them so I could transfer them to the computer and found out that the Dell 1100 is not compatible with windows 7 and installing it is "not recommended", and there were no windows 7 drivers available for that model. Other than having crappy screen resolution and probably some other problems that I problem haven't noticed yet it seems to work fine. Is there any way around this? Would the drivers for the other OS's work? I'm only mildly proficient at computer stuff so if you can help try to keep it in layman's terms. Also if there is a way around this, which drivers do I need to download? I didn't think you needed to download every available one. Thanks.

Hello,
I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

Hello,
On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

Can I install WinXP Pro from older Dell laptop on to new Dell laptop?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8200 right now and in order to save some money on my new Dell laptop, I'd like to order Home or MediaCenter with the new computer and then install WinXP Pro myself instead of paying the extra $119 to have them do it. I have a Reinstallation CD of WinXP Pro that came with the old Dell laptop; will I be able to use it to install WinXP Pro on my new one?

Thanks.

I had to replace the hard drive on a Dell optiplex 170L. I have a reinstallation disk for the system with sp2. Installation was going well, then stopped with a fatal error 800b0100. Said the signature for setup was invalid. What next?

A:Reinstall winxp pro on dell

I've often found that its a smudge, scratch or bad pressed CD that give bad signature or CRC errors during install. Check the CD, try to clean it off and try again. Also, you want to check the compatibility of the new hard disk, some older PCs have problems with large capacity hard drives.

error 12007, can not access the internet on my daughters dell-winxp. I tried many of the suggestions, still no luck. Any help is appreciated.[Moderator edit: post moved to more appropriate forum. jgw]

A:Error 12007 Dell Winxp

Hi renn_j,

There could be a number of reasons for the internet disconnection. 12007 means that IE cannot connect so it is trying at least.

If you aren't sure how to do any of the following then repost. I apologise if I have covered old ground from the previous forum too.

Did it suddenly stop working? Has it ever worked? Did this happen after problems with malware?

Do you have another browser installed? Often another one will connect with no problem

Is there a proxy set on Internet Explorer?

Have you checked the security level on your firewall?

Sometimes the add-ons on IE can cause problems so it might be an idea to switch them off and then if that works slowly add them on until the problem add-on is identified.

It is possible that malware is present. If nothing above works then perhaps it would be worth posting in our "Am I Infected" thread.

That's a lot to cover. Hope it's not too much...

hello all!
I told my father in law about DELLs wonderful deal they were having.. his system was older and kept crashing, so instead of rebuilding it (which would cost him $600) I suggested to him to buy this DELL for $504 complete! great deal for him..

anyway.. he did.. and I transfered everything over, had it working perfectly. It was slower then my XP, but was still nicer then his old system.

then everything went downhill.. he had his neighbor come over and install Printshop pro (I think that was it??) and some Quicken program.. I asked him why he needed all these and he siad.. "I DONNO".. DUAH.. then dont' put them on there if you don't use them..

at Thanksgiving he asks me "I thought that thing was supposed to have a CDRom.. " I said.. "IT DOES.. that's how we loaded all the programs.. ".. well.. then he said that my sister in law had come down and took off the Norton I had set up, and put on McAffee.. (which I read takes a lot of resources to run, and slows things down.. ) and that's when the CDrom stopped working, and now he looses his connection all the time..

well.. apparently my sister in law has a MASTERS degree in computers or something.. so gee.. I guess she knows best eh?

anyway.. he calls me the other day and tells me that now it won't start up at all.. first thing it says that CDRom was not detected.. press F1 continue.. (sister in law told him.. oh. that's ok.. just hit F1) so after a few we... Read more

Question - do I *have* to use my OEM disc which is pre-SP 1? Or if I spend the money to save the agony is it ok to buy a fresh Msoft WinXp Pro that already has SP2 on it?

Because I've been trying my 1980s spare monitor, due to my electrosensitivity to my LCD (& btw the CRT is indeed less harmful to my electrosensitivity maybe because of its dimness capability) my display & printout are wacky, because it sprawls over 2 pages when it's supposed to be just one page.

Is this a problem with the Dell's videocard being incompatible with this old monitor? If so, any solution available?

Now if I reboot the computer, I have to repeat this whole process. Now, I thought this had something to do with the onboard audio, so I diabled that in the Bios, and added a pci sound card, but the same thing happened.

Does anyone know whats going on??

The situation: This PC was not protected from virusues, etc, etc, for 2 years.

I wanted to delete both petitions, set up the one particition as active, format it and start clean to get everything back on in good shape..

Problem: The Dell install disk would only let me delete a tiny FAT particition of 40 mb but not the big one where all the propblems live.

In the next screen, Dell's CD told me I would be writing a duplicate program on top of a program and create problems. (That is a new one on me!) So I stopped the installation to think about it. Now when I turn it on, the PC starts and stops repeatedly. looping endlessly !!

I tried to get into the bios again to guide activity to a new Cd with a Winxp pro disk in it, but the F12 key command doesn't work (logo is being skipped), and the Dell PC ignores the XP pro CD anyway--it just keeps on restarting..........

How can I shake this Dell Dimeniosn 2350 PC out of it's daze? I can't return it to my friend this way!

Just for curiosity-----
Why didn't it let me delete the main partition so i could totally destroy those bad files. It's breaking all the install rules I know!

Help would be apreciated--counting on some of you brains out there!

1. Which reinstall CD should I use?
2. Can I set up the HDD in one machine and then use it in the other?
3. Or should I just remove the infected HD from the 4700, put in the spare, and set it up there?

The reason I want to do the setup in the other machine is because the 2 computers are in

Where can I get a bootable ISO image for Vista (I found nothing in the internet that works)?
Thanks guys

I had to reinstall WinXP on my Dell XPS M1530, and now Windows doesn't detect the bluetooth unit. The symbol in the line with power buttons etc is lighted though. I have software from before, but could only copy, not install it. What I find works only in Vista. Broadcom's own bluetooth software does neither detect a bluetooth nor work without that. In the control panel there is no icon for bluetooth, even though Windows help suggests exactly that.

Does anyone know how to do that? It worked before, but now I can't figure out how, even after hours of googling...

Best regards

Okay, so here's what's happening.

I'm fixing a computer that got a very nasty virus from Limewire. I have backed everything up, but I don't think there's actually anything wrong with the filesystem.

I just want to reinstall Windows over top of the existing installation so it doesn't have to redo the entire filesystem and will replace the system files so none of the programs/files will be effected.

When I try to boot up into the XP SP2 install CD, It will not recognize any hard drives. Obviously, the computer has hard drives in it.

if some one could help me get rid of the virus (I believe it's one of those nasty pdf bugs) or figure out how to do an install of windows over top of the existing one without formatting the drive, I would appreciate it. These are my only two options, the client will not accept any other option.

This is URGENT. I have given ALL the information I possibly can. Thanks.

Hi,
I had dual boot on my system with Win XP Home (came with laptop) and Fedora 7(which I installed). One fine or unfortunate day as I left my latop with windows xp and went out for a while some media direct thing was running and it restarted my comp. After that I was getting blue screen whenver I boot into Win XP. I thought I could repair it with the recovery disks that came with the laptop. But when I boot with the recovery CD , it displays "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration" for 2 seconds and the screen remains blank. Nothing happens. Thinking that the recovery CD might not be good I tested on my friends Dell 640m laptop. It works fine in that. It proceeded further after checking the hardware configuration. Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this problem.

Thanks.

Dell Dimension E520

The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management.

When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.

Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.

Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

Worst of all this is costing us hundreds of dollars just because of Vista. We tried the VMWare image but that didn't work either (see http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=86249 )

Please, any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I own a second hand Mesh computer and I have none of the official documentation. Recently I reformatted my pc to Windows XP Professional SP3 and did my best to collect drivers and so forth. The problem I am having is installing the correct driver for my Ethernet Port.

I found that I needed the driver associated with the motherboard -- ASUS P5N-E SLI. Went to the manufacturers site and located the LAN driver here -- http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E SLI

I cannot work out how to install this driver. There is no .EXE and after a closer investigation I found it to be a Remote Installation. I did a google search but with my little knowledge of the topic, nothing seemed to answer my installation query. The documentation included speaks of a RIS image and an unknown directory to me -- RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Dir_name\I386

Any help on installing this driver? If there is any extra information needed, I'll do my best. Thanks in advance, I know how useful this forum can be.

I have a fairly old notebook that I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping on life support. I've updated and upgraded everything and everything else works just peachy except now I have a problem with WinXP and the CD-ROM drive.

The notebook is a Toshiba Satellite 2250CDT with a TEAC CD-224E-B CD-ROM drive. In Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation point on this drive. The Device status is "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".

I'm guessing the TEAC driver is incompatible with WinXP and there is nothing on the TEAC or Toshiba websites. Is there such a thing as a generic driver? I've scoured the web looking for an answer and you may be my last great hope. Any ideas?

To make sure your Going from SATA to USB, if so, then are you using the USB with + or power port.  Depending on the motherboard.  (had the same issue in the E Series Dells)    Also, SATA does not provide power on its own, it needs to be plugged in, or you need to plug the two cables into two usb ports
the cable for it could be One connector, and two on the other side.  The main cable is the data+power, the other is the extra Power.  USB gives Max 3.3V, SATA usually need 5 or 12V to work.
If all else fails pull your CD drive and connect to that if you can.

I have a Dell optiplex GX270 desktop running Winxp Pro OS . My issue is, after my computer was returned back to me from a friend, it was unable to boot to windows. The error message indicated that the following file is missing or corrupt:

WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG \ SYSTEM

I have reset the bios, then I inserted the original Dell reinstallation cd for Windows xp professional . Then, I tried the (ASR) method first; but the problem with that is, it prompt for the ASR floppy disk. (In which I do not have a floppy drive.) Is there another option? Is there a way I can aquire such file and possible download and burn a bootable copy onto a cd? Run it that way?

Please help..... Thank you in advance.

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the newly created CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

First off, hello to everyone.

A friend of my dads, his computer had been infected with spyware or viruses or something and he had it taken care of by some other group of people (I do not know who he asked to help resolve the issue), and he said that he is no longer getting sounds from it.

I did some looking around at his request and noticed there was a few other errors and things wrong.

Needless to say, now I am just stuck on aspects of trying to resolve the PCI Card error which is displayed as a Yallow ? on the device drivers page. I did some searching around, went to Dells Support page, and tried both of the audio drivers as well as the COnexant PCI card drivers it mentioned, but nothing seems to be working.

It makes me wonder. If they indeed formatted and had to reinstall the OS, could it be possible they installed things in the wrong order?

He has a Windows XP Home Premium Computer. It is Service Pack 3 as well. It is known as a Dell Vostro 200. He still has the Driver Cds that came with it, and it seems to mention the PCI card could be some form of communications modem. But, I get the feeling that is not the case as he is not getting sound, so I assume it could be something more.

I tried installing the Conexant Drivers, as well as the Creative Labs and Realtek Audio drivers as well for it, but unfortunatly, nothing seems to work.

Could it be possible that I may need to format the computer, install the Windows OS, then the Core Drivers and then the individual driv... Read more

A:PCI Card/Sound issues on WinXP SP3 Dell Vostro 200

What is this "PCI card error" that you refer to?

FWIW: There is no order to install drivers.

If there is a device reflected in Device Manager as requiring drivers...I would simply insert the original drivers CD and allow it to self-install, rather than manually trying to install random drivers.

The Dell drivers for that system can be downloaded from the Dell website, if you choose not to use the Dell CD.

Hi, hoping for a Dell Guru!

I have a problem with a friend's machine and unfortunately I have 'more accomplished user status' than him and somehow got roped into this problem.

We live in China, he bought a new Dell 2010 with Chinese UBUNTU onboard - everyone assured him he could put on English Windows XP when he bought it so he scrubbed the harddrive and loaded on XP (original disk, an amazing discovery in China!!)

So he got it working ok, but of course it has some issues in missing drivers (no resource CD, because UBUNTU OS). And the place he bought it from will only service a Chinese OS, not English OS, so we are a little stuck.

Drivers missing are
1) audio
2) One called SM driver which I believe is 'chipset' and should have been installed first, but I don't have a copy!
3) PCI (no internet/network card connection working so probably that!)

Issue is that we don't have a Dell Diagnostic disk for this machine or a partition backup (it was UBUNTU). And Dell seems to recommend Win7 as the desired OS on it's websites.

Win7 is not most desirable solution (old system, can't update machines and previous compatibility issues make my friend 'unhappy' to do this) - so looking to see if we can get drivers from somewhere that are applicable.

Any ideas most welcomed!

A few months ago, I purchased two Dell Dimension 3000 systems with2.8 GHz and 1 GB RAM and Win XP Home edition service pack 2. I put one into service back then and the second one into service this week.
Using either IE 6.0, or Firefox, the first one displays web page menu links and cells pooly, with no background graphics (tabs, colors, etc.). Also, it displays type very large, even though both machines are set for the same medium type styles.
On Yahoo, for instance, all three columns don't fit on the screen. The middle column hogs the screen and right scrolls down, then the left column and finally the right column. My second Dell 3000 displays everything perfectly.
Settings on both machines are the same. Display properties are 1024 by 768 and Highest 32 bit color. Both DPI are 96. When I click on Settings- Advanced and then Intel Extreme graphics 2, there is a difference.
The good machine shows Intel 82865G Graphics controller 6.12.10.4020. The troubled one shows a message "more visual display options for devices attached... such as Television, digital display... are available here". When Graphics properties are clicked the good machine brings up a properties window with six tabs (Device, colow, schemes, hot keys, rotation, information). I have a Dell 4300 that I inherited from my dad, running WinXP-home, with a factory Conexant v.92 56K voice modem When I install AOL, or NetZero either, (I tried that too) everything seems to connect fine until it gets to downloading the list of access numbers. At that point, the modem disconnects. I have run all the diagnostics I can find, and connected through Hyperterminal, and it all checks out fine, no problems. I have even installed two other modems, added +MS=V34 to the commands, changed the default to read the same, set the speed to 9600 baud, tried to force it to use Com 3 (it defaults to the next available, Com 5), and I have run out of ideas. Same deal (or worse) every time. I am currently on line with my old computer, using exactly the same phone line, even the same cord. It is slow, I'll admit, because I live in the boondocks, but it does work just fine. So why won't the other one work? I have a feeling that some setting in the bios is causing a conflict, but nothing I've tried there works either. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh, and I talked to my dad, he used the same modem and never had any problems. I am obviously out of my league here...

A:WinXP driver issues

Hi, Your motherboard has a chipset from VIA, and usually you must install motherboard drivers from an install CD, or download from the support site for the Gigabyte board...did you do this?
You have an onboard video adapter/chip. May need to disable it in the BIOS....I am not sure as some allow you to just install an added in card and load new drivers, some do not.
You may have to load the Standard VGA adapter drivers, then after that is loaded and running in 16 color (yuck) you can install the right drivers for your OS and the Radeon and it will install.
I would review the instructions from the mobo manual for installing an add in video card- the manual, if you do not have one, is here::
http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-7VKMP.htm
manual found in the list on the left.
Reading the FAQs might be quicker than opening the manual online with Adobe Acrobat.... but, it says "Coming soon" for them...oh well, manual is best I can do, unless you or someone can hunt for details on how to use add in video card easily.
Might be just the standard step by step, uninstall all video drivers and switch to SVGA, then install new ones. Safe Mode can help with this.

Note that there is a 7VKMP-P version of this board.

Hello!
I am new here, and I hope someone here can really help me out of this dilemma. My wife somehow downloaded and installed a certain driver she thought it was to be upgraded for Window XP Pro. After she rebooted it, she got as far as just before the log on, everything freeze. I ask if she remembers what the driver was she downloaded and installed, she didn?t know for sure what it was. I try booting into WinXP Pro Safe Mode, and it did the same thin, mouse and all. I cannot log onto Safe Mode. Believing it may have been a certain driver in conflict with something incompatible ? possibly the USB ? I unplug all the devices using the USB including the mouse. The results are still the same, if froze as before. I use the command.exe to run chkdsi /r to see if it can repair it. That one fails. I try using the WinXP CD in an attempt to repair the Windows without losing the data. That didn?t work either.
My only option is possible reformatting the hard drive, but I do not want to reformat the hard drive until I can figure out how I can retrieve the important data (My Documents). I remember I can easily do that with Windows 95 using the DOS command by coping most of my files to the floppy disk. It was time consuming, but it was worth it before the invention of the Flash. Now I can?t figured out how I can retrieve the data to be copy to the Flash since WinXP doesn?t work like Windows 95. The hard drive, by the way, is healthy. Using the Windows Installation disk, did you try running "chkdsk /f" ? If so did it report and/or fix any errors ? Run chkdsk multiple times and get several clean scans before moving on; the HD may be getting ready to fail.

Also, in Recovery Console, run "fixboot" and "fixmbr".

Try Safe Mode. When booting to Safe Mode, disconnect ALL hardware except for the keyboard.

If all of these fail, you may need to run a Repair Install.

Hello,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4600 using the WinXP Home System Recovery disk. I'm not sure if that disk was the one that came with that computer or not, but the reformatting procedure was going fine until the screen changed to a black screen with "Gateway" displayed on it in large white lettering with a white scrolling progress bar that animated for a few seconds, then froze. I figured that the reformatting process would take a long time, so I walked away, but several hours later, I found that the screen hadn't changed at all and the computer didn't seem to be doing anything aside from just sitting there, displaying that same image.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something wrong with the computer itself (e.g., I'm not using the correct System Recovery disc)?

EDIT: I almost forgot -- I'm planning on donating this computer, so I'm not concerned with losing any data on it.

My husband's Dell laptop has been having crash problems intermittently for the past few months, usually while using the latest Firefox (not surprising because web browsing is mostly what he uses the laptop for), but he believes it stems back to a Windows update -- not sure which one exactly, but whichever one gave him the new IE with tabs. The computer has been twitchy ever since then.

Last week things progressed to Windows not starting up at all and consistently bringing up a BSoD upon every restart - Normal, Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration.

In the BSoD, there is not a specific file or driver listed as the problem. Here is the STOP error code we consistently see:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86F59E7A, 0xF79907B8, 0xF79904B4)
(I can transcribe the entire blue screen text if that is necessary)

I tried to use the Dell support site to troubleshoot the problem -- I followed the "guided path" tech support, trying each recommended step, none of which did anything. I stopped when I got to the suggestion to open the laptop and unplug all the third-party devices plugged into the motherboard. Knowing me, I'd get electrocuted. And we didn't alter the hardware once we got it from the factory anyway.

I ran Diagnostics and the memory passed all the tests. On the Dell "Windows XP Blue Screen Troubleshooting" page, it suggests updating the BIOS or rolling back any updates. I have no idea how to do any of those things when Windows won't ... Read more

I need to get some video off of my camcorder, so I bought a 3 port firewire card from Belkin.

I intstalled the card into an open PCI slot beneath my video card, closed everything back up, and turned on the power, nothing happened. My CPU was getting power, but there was no signal to the monitor, or anything else. Windows never loaded, and no other

I changed the card into another open slot and the same thing happened again. I took the card out, and it booted up normally.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, running WinXP. I don't think there should be a problem like this. I spent half an hour on hold with Belkin tech support before I had to attend to my 15 month old who trapped himself in a closet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Good evening,

I work for a law firm that uses Dell Optiplex's ranging from 745's to 790's with all inbetween [745, 755, 760, 780, 790]. Our NJ satellite office also has these Dell model ranges, but all of them have Windows XP SP3 installations. These machines generally either have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers or the ATI Radeon HD 3400 series card/drivers for those models that do not have an available display port. With that said, all machines have dual monitor setups as well.

The issue, put simply: almost a 1/4 of the PC's in our NJ office lose their second monitor on almost a daily basis, where we either have to re-extend the desktop to the other monitor or we have to play the unplug/shutdown/re-plugin game with the display port adaptors.

We're about to run a report containing the following information for the affected machines: OS, BIOS, Video Chipset, Connector Type [VGA2DP, DVI2DP, DP2DP], Power Save Settings. However, I'd like to throw this forum post out there to see if anyone knows any specific Windows XP Pro SP3 issues that exist with utilizing dual monitors on these machine types and/or how to resolve them. Thanks in advance for those who can assist me with any information.

Hi..
I have a dell 8400 Dell with SATA HD. I decided to format the hard disk, and I received the error message : "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system". I read through the threads located in : techspot.com/vb/topic18329.htm .. Therefore, i was able to load the driver via floppy disk as suggested and succeeded to have my SATA detected and copied the xp files , but the problem is that once it reboots i got a black screen, means that i could not see any image (invite to complete the installation). the black screen flashes (comes and goes without having the time to see the screen).. What is the problem and what would be the solution .. thanks in advance..

A:Problem in installing winXp in my 8400 Dell with SATA drive

For that to work did you enable the SATA feature in the BIOS and I would burnt drivers for SATA to CD instead for FD. Check with DELL support to see if their is anything you need to get that DELL SATA HDD working again.

I am temporarily trying to use an old HP Pavillion Monitor which was on a windows 95 system on a pieced together Dell System running windows XP, it begins to load as if everything is fine, then the self diagnosis alert comes up asking if the display settings on PC are correct.. Before I can input any information, the screen goes gray and of course won't accept any information at all. Can someone help me with this ? We are in a very small / remote town and need this until we can replace it. if this is just incompatible, can anyone tell me if the monitor we were using Dell 2007WFP(b) can be replaced with a Dell S 2009 W - what changes would be necessary ? Thank you for your assistance.

A:trying to use a HP win95 monitor on a Dell winXP system settings msj. goes gray

Any VGA monitor should work it doesn't need to be a Dell. The monitors Default resolution may be too low for XP, when Windows tries to correct it, to a higher Resolution, the monitor fails. Try booting into Safe Mode and use the monitor controls on the front of the monitor to see if you can change the default resolution to something higher. Then boot into Normal Mode, Right click a blank spot on the Desktop./Properties/Screen Resolution and try pushing the bar to the right.

On a Dell Dimension 9200 I downloaded and installed the latest MS updates for the WinXP Media Edition. After the install the computer had to restart to complete the install. I let it do its thing while I got a coffee. Half an hour later the computer still had not shut down and was on the last phase of it. I let it go for another 2 hours to come back to find no progress had been made so after not getting any response from Ctl, Alt, /Delete I resorted to helping the shutdown by using the power off button. Since then (5 days ago) I have been trying everything to get it to boot up again; it only boots to before the bios. That is the CDs lights come on along with the numbers at the front bottom and from then the power fan runs at what seems full speed. The numbers showing at the front panel are 3 and 4. Pushing any of the F keys has no effect. Could someone help me here please?

A week ago my computer crashed. Something wrong with one of the coolers. When I tried to re-install WinXP, but it failed. Something to do with a NTLDR-failure. I brought my pc to the retailer. They fixed all problems.

Yesterday i discovered my sound isn't working anymore. When i use Winamp to play any sound, the following message appears: Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers (...). Error code: 88780078.

Strange, 'cause everything worked fine under the previous install of WinXP.

Another strange thing: my computer seems to recognize the hardware, but 'there is no device installed'.

I want to try to install the Audigy-software again. Maybe that'll work, but my 'installation and applications cd' seems to be damaged. I can't read antything from it.

Help me.

Hi, recently I've been having some problems with my computer so I decided to give it a reformat. Up to this point I used to leave my computer at BestBuy to get things done because quite frankly I don't know squat about computers. But this time around I wanted to learn my way around the advanced aspects of computer maintenance, so I decided to do it myself.

At first I had to learn what BIOS is and how to make my computer boot from CD rom. No biggie, didn't take me too long. But when it got to the actual installation part I got a message that read something like "hard disk not detected." I gave it another try before searching the net again for an answer. I found one case in a different tech forum that was similar to mine, and most of the replies suggested that he either needed a fresh RAID driver install or reinstall in a different driver mode. After fiddling around on Dell's support page for a bit with the help of a very, very kind person I met online I finally made a RAID driver disk and gave the whole thing ANOTHER try. No dice, it still couldn't detect the hard disk even after the drivers were installed.

So I simply decided to try the whole thing in different driver mode and I'm afraid this is what sealed my fate. I was able to fdisk in "RAID autodetect / ATA" mode (it was originally set to "RAID autodetect / AHCI" mode) and install a new copy of Windows - except I can't install any drivers necessary to ru... I am trying to reinstall WinXp onto my Dell Inspiron 2200. I had no problems with the OS when I installed it. But when it comes time to extract and install from the Drivers and Utilities disk, many of the drivers applications and utilities simply do not install. I get what seems to be one of two error messages. Either that an object was not found, or it cannot install on this system. The only utilities that seemed to install without a problem where ones that worked for WinXp and Win2000 and that were also listed as compatible with every Inspiron model type in the drop down list. A few months back I reinstalled WinXp on this machine without these problems using the same two disks. I do remember that when using the Drivers and Utilites disk, Inspiron 2200 was not a model number available on the drop down list. XPS, 600m, 300m, 8600, and 1150 were on there to name a few. I recall using the files for one of those model types and never having any problems. Anyone know if any models out there use the same drivers as a 2200? Or if something may have went wrong when I installed WinXp. Thanks.

Alright, I give up. If you go into your Windows XP device manager and View > Show Hidden Devices, look under Network adapters. You'll see WAN Miniport drivers, probably several of them. Unfortunately, on one of my Windows XP Pro machines, I don't. They're not there. Now, they're just software drivers, so it should be quite easy... but how do I add them?

A:WinXP: Install WAN Miniport driver?

I think I've got it...

If anyone runs into this, here's how I fixed it, although not well tested yet:

I just exported related registry settings from a similar, but working computer. Specifically, those referring to the ndiswan and related drivers. It seems that the most important of those are in Local_Machine\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\MS_NDIS...

Then, I temporarily changed the permissions using regedt32 on the non-working computer so that I could modify the Root folder... And imported! With a restart, the missing devices are showing up.

Just a thought but have you tried something as simple as connect automatically in the internet options settings?(internet options,
connections,LAN,Automatically detect settings)
I know its a simple thing but its easy to overlook,my xp will do this occasionally after using my dual booting Lubuntu,no idea why.
I asked a programer why a clean system would do this and he said even
a small electrical surge could cause a setting change,so who knows.

If that doesnt work it might be time to repair the internet, reset the win sock etc..hopefully you dont have a viral issue messing with your settings.

I have the problem of "setup did not find any hard disk drives". I have a Dell Precision 690 with Intel Xeon dual core processors. The IDE ATA Controller is Intel 631xESB SATA. The hard drive has 700 GB.

64-bit Windows does not have drivers for some of the most important software I use, so I wish to be able to do dual-booting on this computer. I bought a 200 GB Maxtor drive and installed it. When I tried to boot with a Windows XP CD in the drive, I got the famous message "setup did not find any hard disk drives ?". I have tried all the options discussed in this forum with no luck. In particular:
1. I used nlite to slipstream the SATA drivers which I downloaded from the Intel website. I downloaded both the 32-bit (f6flpy32.exe) and the 64-bit (f6flpy64.exe) drivers. I created the WinXP CD and booted from it. Every time I get the message "iastor.sys is corrupted" and the booting was aborted. I tried all combinations of slipstreamed CDs (Win 2000, XP SP4, etc) but with no luck. Note that I also copied the driver files from the C drive of the x64 installation and got the same problem.
2. I then tried the floppy diskette idea. I saved the driver files in a floppy and during booting I hit F6 and tried loading the drivers (one at a time and in combination). I got the same error message. Sometimes I got the message that the drivers I am trying to install were newer than the ones in the CD. I tried both accepting and rejecting the use of th... Read more

Hi .

Do this...Start/Run...type msinfo32 and hit Enter. Click Components/Display. Post what's listed in the right screen for the 1st, 3d, and 4th lines.

Do you have your Dell drivers CD?

Don't do any of the following yet . I need to figure out the correct drivers you need first.

The ati3duag.dll error...should be your video drivers. They are probably damaged, maybe not. In any case, I suggest uninstalling them (using device manager)...then running the chkdsk /r command...then reinstalling the video drivers.

Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Click Display Adapter, double-click the specific item now displayed. Click Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.

To run chkdsk /r....Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (exactly as shown here) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system.

The command will execute...then boot into XP.

Specs:
WinXP Pro
AMD Socket 939 (AMD X2 4200)
NVIDIA nForce4 SLI - GA-K8N Pro-SLI
2.5GB ram

So I was having problems with connecting to the internet so I decided to reinstall my drivers for my LAN device. The installation didnt seem to have worked successfullly (nForce utilities were not working) so I tried reinstalling the driver again. After installation completed, instead of saying "You must restart your computer now or later" all that came up was "1155: [Okay]"
Then I restarted the computer and now it does not load XP after BIOS initiations. Just kind of stalls with a black screen, but the computer does not reset or shut down, just stalls.
It gets passed the BIOS stuff but does not show any of the XP boot screens.
I looked it up a little and found http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
that for data recovery, and potentially making the drive bootable again?
I'm not sure what to do, any way to get the computer to boot windows again without any loss of data? And a correct procedure of reinstalling the LAN driver would be nice, as it didnt work as I expected (unusual)
Any and all help is appreciated, hopefully I can get my rig back up and running in no time!

I recently bought the supposedly excellent Canon MP530 multi-function printer, etc. and went to install it on my WinXP pro machine and . . . nothing. I've spent some time with Canon tech support (some helpful, some not so helpful) but I still can't get the freakin' things to communicate with each other. The consistent result of my installations is "no driver is installed" or "cannot find driver" - even though the driver itself seems to install. Also, when I turn the printer on, I get the New Hardware Wizard, which, I think, means my computer is detecting the printer. It's as if the driver is just not recognized by my computer.
I've installed (and uninstalled) the drivers from both the disc that came with the printer and from the Canon website. I've used two different USB cables. I've tried many combinations of plugging/unplugging, starting/restarting, turning on/off - all to no avail.
I've logged on as the Administrator. I've done my best to shut down any programs or processes- though I think this is tricky, as I don't necessarily know what each thing in my Startup or Services is. I've even tried installing from SafeMode. I've tried using the New Hardware Wizard; I've tried ignoring the New Hardware Wizard. I've received a few error messages, but only when attempting the full installation from the disc. The messages are: "AddPrinterDriverEx Error:2", "AddPrinter Error:1797&... Read more

Presario 1622 56K-DF Modem driver for XP

Hi guys. I have noticed that when i installed winXP on my old presario 1622 it didnt detected the modem. I've tried to find the driver for XP but i'm having a little trouble with it. I went to the hp/compaq site but there's a driver but only for win 95/98/ME. I downloaded it but when using the .inf file trying winxp to detect it, it doesn´t work.

Everything was ok when it had win98 because it detected the modem right away...i know, this machine wasn´t supposed to work with xp but with good ram and a good hard drive it is working well

The modem in question is the Compaq Presario 56K-DF modem. If anyone knows where to find this driver, please let mi know.

A:WinXP Modem Driver for presario 1622

Take down the chip name, board, and product numbers, then look for the WXP drivers on www.driverguide.com. The drivers are there, and are free. The Presario used several different modems. The 56k-DF doesn't help unless you also know the brand... if you cannot figger it out, repost with the modem card and chip numbers here and we will guide you.
The modem is usually a Lucent, now found as Agere. The driverguide version that usually works is the Presario 1275 56K-DF, file name SP20530, which you can also find with a www.hp.com search.

I am using an Asus P5W64-WS MB, XP Pro SP3, and an older 74GB WD Raptor. I've never really messed around with doing the "F6" installation of RAID drivers when installing XP. Instead I've always just selected the default in the BIOS where the SATA drive is treated like an IDE device and I did not have to install the drivers during OS installation. I currently see under a speed utility that my Raptor is giving transfer rates of 85MB per sec. maximum, 24 MB per sec minimum, and 73 MB per second average.

My question is this - what sort of improvements might I see if I did a clean install of XP Pro and configured the drive as an SATA drive using the F6 driver installation option during install?

Also, is it worth going to a RAID 0 configuration if I am going to do the SATA thing? I would be using the ICH7R controller for that.

Finally, what does the AHCI option allow, and is that used with the IDE or F6'd SATA driver installation?

Thanks for any help.

A:IDE vs. F6 SATA driver install on WinXP Pro & Speed Improvements?

The HardDrive is working off the same speed on PATA or Sata.
The F6 is usually used for Sata Drives that require extra drivers
The Raid 0 is not the safest idea, and in actual fact normally I would say, don't do Raid anything if you're unsure.

Hey,

Are their any known troubles or concerns with drivers properly running on XP pro 32 with 4 GB of Ram? I ask this as I know some who is getting random blue screens and he is running a computer with above specs when running an audio application that required drivers. I have read elsewhere XP32 has a tough time when 4GB is installed is this factual?

A Microsoft response would be great and much appreciated,I am also open to anyone with knowledge regarding this instance.

Thanks,

Matt

Hello, it's about installing WinXP on SATA (AHCI) hdd, by default standard windows xp installer can't detect AHCI, so while install you'll get a blue screen error.

I have found out that problem, and there is 2 available solutions:
1. By setting BIOS, advance, HDD, to compatible mode
2. By install windows XP that has integrated AHCI driver

If you are using solution #1, then you can install windows xp by using standard winxp installer, but if you are using solution #2, then you need to find AHCI driver for your chipset, and then integrated it to winxp installer by using software called nLite.

Nah, I want to know, where I can download AHCI driver for nvidia MCP75L chipset for winxp pro sp2.

I just found AHCI driver for win xp pro sp2, but it's intended for intel chipset, whereas mine is nvidia MCP75L.

Do you guys know where to download it?

Thanks.

Hello All Of You Tech Heads, This one is Stumping Me. I was Trying to Put in Some of the Old 16 bit Games into my computer the other day and Got this Message saying that the Virtual Device Driver Could Not Be Found, and got the same little GLITCH when I tried to Install a program that Defrags the Memory called MemTurbo. It is a Good Program Also but got the same Error Message when I was trying to install this program. So I went into the HELP Files in the Start Menu and it told me to go into the Reg Edit Program under the Run in the Start Menu. So Did This and Cruised Thru the RegEdit could not find the VDD file. So I was Wondering if there is a Proram to get to put this back in ?? Then I would be able to put the old games in! !

It should say which VDD is missing in the error message. If it does, google for the file, and DL it. Should come with a self-extractor.

The printer refuses to install under WinXP.
It worked under WinXP before. However, I uninstalled Windows and worked under Linux for several months before returning to WindowsXP. I was able to use the printer, although problematically, under Linux. When I installed a fresh copy of WinXP, the WinXP drivers refused to install.
As a side note, the previous installation was an upgrade of Win2k, where the printer worked fine. It also worked fine on Win98SE.
When I try to run the installtion file (really a self-extractin ZIP) 'XPC11_15.exe' after the warning screen, it just closes and does nothing. I then unzipped the contents into a seperate folder: two file named 'xcc152k1.EXE' and 'XP_VB.exe'. The second file contains nothing but a warning message, while the second one is the installation of the printer drivers.
The installer loads, and looks OK. I choose the language and agree to the license agreement. Then a box informs me that I need to upgrade my firmware (I did so before, when the printer worked under WinXP previously). Left without another option I click Upgrade. It opens a little box called ,which displays "Copying Files..." and then "Installing Files...". These messages flash by quickly. Then a warning message called 'Printers' appears telling me that "The arguments are invalid." Another message appears in a seperate window also called 'Printers' telling me "Operation could not be complet... Read more

A:Xerox DocuPrint C11 Driver Installation trouble on WinXP

OK, I've solved the problem myself.
As I mentioned above, add the printer through the Add Printer wizard. There, choose the "Choose From List" option, and find the driver listed on the bottom of the Xerox part.
Install.
Then, in the Printer Properties, go to the Advanced Tab. There, change from Spool to Print Directly to Printer, and VOILA. It works!

Hello,
I have a new Dell XPS9530 which has a software application that was installed by default called "True Color" which is normally in the task bar near the clock.
I ordered the official Dell OEM Windows 8.1 disk (red in color) and the XPS 9530 Driver CD (Gray in Color) and did a fresh install on my computer.  Neither disk contains the previously installed True Color application and I also don't see it on the downloads section on the Dell website.
Technical support was not familiar with this application so I didn't get very far - was just told to reinstall everything which I've already done.
Where is the True Color Application and why isn't it on the recovery disks since it was installed by default from the factory?

Thanks!

I've been having problems installing a driver for HP890 driver for Win98, on a networked WinXP, as an alternate driver. Where can I find other files, or another method (the original CD files don't seem to work), that'll install the alternate driver in my WinXP Professional?
