Q: Solved: Acer Aspire TS Series Desktop will not boot

Help!
I have an Acer AST 160-US321H desktop PC that is not connected to the internet and used for home projects only. Today I can not get it to come up at all. I have turned it on and off several times hoping to reset whatever went wrong. Also, there is a red light shining next to the green power light once I power it up. Nothing happens on the screen. The CPU is running (at least the fan) but that's about it. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Deb
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! I shut down the power strip for a few minutes then tried to reboot again and after doing a disk scan all is well again! THANKS!!!

I restarted my computer like normal and for whatever reason the computer is now stuck at the Acer boot screen. I try to press DEL to enter Setup and I even tried pressing F12 to go into the Boot Setup, but for whatever reason the computer does not respond to anything.

To shut it off I have to hold down the power button and eventually it shuts off.

Stuff to know:
- I have a wireless mouse and keyboard being used on that desktop.. Should I perhaps try to plug in a corded mouse and keyboard?
- I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Thanks

My Aspire M5100 Desktop computer will not start or boot up properly. The blue indicator is on to show that I have started it up. But, my monitor keeps displaying: ''No video input''. I can hear that the drive is not booting properly as it used to. This started about a month ago, but at times it did display and boot properly. Now it does nothing at all. I cannot get my recovery discs to work either as the drive does not seem to function properly. Can anyone help me, and also is it possible anyone has a service manual for this model? I've Googled it but seem to only get a user manual and a service manual for the laptop. But I need one for this desktop.

A:Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop will not boot up

I'd start with the power supply first, partial failures are very common with Acer's. Do you have access to another power supply that you can try?

Acer doesn't provide service manual's.

My problem with this two year old laptop is that I can't turn it on? Someone suggested that it might be the Motherboard? If so, can they be replaced?

How would I go about checking to see if indeed this is the source of the problem?

A:Hello...perhaps someone can help me? I have an Acer Aspire 5000 series laptop

Common windows XP error. Check to be sure you have all the driver updates from Acer, then make sure you have all the Microsoft updates.
It is not the motherboard. But the fix is different for every computer brand.
I assume you have scanned for virus and spyware, in both normal and Safe Mode.
If you have a copy of Windows XP disk that will allow a Repair mode from a cold boot, that usually takes care of it, otherwise.

I'm no computer genius, but I knew that having unused programmes on my laptop can't be helping my running speed etc, so in a bid to be quicker I decided to have a clean up.
I went into my add/remove programmes and got rid of a few things...

- MSN messenger
- Adobe Photoshop
- And a few other things I deemed unnecessary.

After that I had no sound. I tired a system restore, nothing, and I've been on the acer website and downloaded the audio driver, still nothing.
I'm running XP, as I tried vista and my laptop didn't take to kindly to this upgrade.

So any help would be very much appreciated. I'm not a major rush, so if it take a week or so of process of elimination I honestly don't mind, its just terrible sat with a silent laptop.

Thanks a lot, Eleanor.

A:No sound on Acer Aspire 5100 series

No sound?

Are you sure you installed the correct audio driver ?
I use, a free program from 'Drivereasy.com' It will scan yout PC and get the right drivers for you. But its a good move to uninstall the old one in 'Device Manager' first
Any chance you have just muted the speakers ? ( left click on the speaker in the taskbar and push the marker up to about 15).

Hello, I have recently purchased a new laptop for myself and chose the ACER Aspire 5349 series. It functioned properly and without fail for a week and then problems arose. My laptop began to shut off randomly and without warning. This happens if I am on battery or plugged in. To turn it on must remove any sources of electricity (power cord and battery) and then must hold the power button for 30 seconds once I release I must put the power cord back in start up the laptop then add the battery. This has been happening about 90% of the time and very randomly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Some final specs include:
Windows 7 Home premium 32bit
2gb DDR3 memory
Intel 8800 Processor

Hi

My daughter has this laptop running Vista and it has crashed completely. It tries to start Vista but then freezes before it gets into the operating system. I can get into command prompt and see that the only drive it has has changed from C to X but all the system and personal files are still there. It would appear Windows might be corrupt although I haven't ruled out a hardware conflict at this stage. My question is how can I retrieve and backup the personal files with a USB portable drive which I have before I format and reinstall Windows. She has files she would hate to lose so any help in getting at these to backup would be greatly appreciated. Also not sure how to access reinstall of Windows as she received no CD when she bought it new. I believe it is installed somewhere on the hard drive.

Thanks

Hello everyone, I purchased an Acer Aspire 5742 Series Laptop . That is an I3 processor.

MY daughter was having problems with it simply turning off. After looking at and running Real Temp and Prime 95, I believed it was simple over heating .

It is under warranty so I took it in for repair, I just picked it up and they said the fan and vents needed cleaning, that is why it is getting hot and shutting down.

Now I re-ran Prime 95 and it still shut down after 1 hour roughly. Real Temp said it was 89 Degrees C.

So is this normal for laptops??? I costume build my PC and it never shuts down on running Prime 95. Even I did overclocked it.

SO what recommendation do you have? I can take it back (warranty) but I do not have the faith they will fix it ! Since I say no BSOD I am not sure any reports will help. It is a Clean windows 7 install.

A:Acer Aspire 5742 Series Laptop Over Heating

Hello Becky -

By design, laptops just aren't as efficient as desktops when it comes to cooling. Components are bunched together in a small space and the fan is usually underpowered and doesn't move a lot of air. Generally speaking, laptops need to be used on a hard, flat surface like a tabletop and not on a pillow, bedspread, or even a lap. Vents and fan will surely be blocked adding to the heat build up. Many people even use a laptop cooling pad to help with air circulation.

Laptop cooler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But there's another consideration that may prompt you to take the laptop back in for warranty service. It's possible that a heat sink or thermal paste was improperly installed during production. No amount of cleaning will correct that kind of problem. Some additional thoughts:

Windows 7 Should Automatically Detect the hardware, or most of it. A good test before you blow the whole machine away would be to do a "dual boot" and see what you need to look for, if it doesn't detect everything.

This is a new laptop. Probably over my head. For some reason the full screen mode has changed to a black section on top and bottom. My display is set at 1600X1024 pixels. I have done nothing to change the screen appearance.
Automatic updates are activated and that is the only changes I have seen.
I would like to know how to effect a full screen picture without the top and bottom blackout. Also on IE my main page is just about 1/2 the center of the screen.
Pretty basic as is my knowledge! Thanks

I have a an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi notebook that the screen just went completely white on and then upon restarting it nothing was displayed, but the computer at least seems to turn on. I've tried plugging it into an LCD monitor but there still isn't anything displayed. I should note the laptop isn't mine. This is how I received it and what I was told. Is it possible for the on-board video to go bad? Or any ideas of things I could try to pin-point the problem?

Thanks

A:Acer Aspire 5100 Series Notebook --No Display

If you have tried an external monitor (which you said you have) and nothing displayed on boot whilst plugged into the external monitor, I would say that the built-in video is bad. I would advise your friend/client/relative to purchase a new laptop or see if you can find a cheap, used mobo on Ebay to replace it because the video cannot easily be replaced (soldered onto motherboard).

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 series laptop, and it won't startup.

First it takes me to the screen "launch startup repair or launch windows normally" I've clicked startup repair several times and it never fixes it. I've also tried starting windows normally and it comes up with this black screen with the font

!! 0xc0000034 !! 250/86580 (_00000000000.cdf-ms)

It usually freezes between 8700-8800/86580

Usually, it goes to this screen no matter what I do.

Now I've been trying each of the advanced startup repair techniques, still none work. Each of them freeze at 99% pretty much. Memory Diagnostic froze at 99%, windows system restore was finalizing the restore for over an hour, I have no idea what to do with the command prompt, I don't have the correct discs apparently for complete system restore, and startup repair never works.
I bought these disks from the acer company and one of the steps says: Reboot the computer and press F12 for Acer when the splash screen first appears. I don't know when the splash screen even appears. So basically I don't think the disks work.

Is there any hope for my laptop?

Thanks to anyone who helps.

A:Acer Aspire 5315 series doesn't startup

It sounds to me like your operating system has become corrupted.

The fact that the computer did not shut down properly, causes you to keep going back to a screen saying just that.

Each time this cycle happens your operating system becomes more corrupted.

You should try running chkdsk /f to see if this fixes the issue.

I do not know off hand who your hard drive vendor is but you should try running a DOS version of their diagnostic disk utility to check for bad sectors on the hard drive.

If you can provide that hardware information, we can point you to a DOS utility that runs independent of the hard drive in question.

Bruce.

"Usually" the Acer recovery partition was a hidden partition; inaccessible by the usual means; at least it was some time back. Sometimes called a PQ partition if I remember correctly (at least for Acer laptops a wee while back). It was usually first item on the hard drive too.You seem to suggest that the system was initially Vista; then you took it up to win-7... Possibly in the process of going to win-7 the (Vista) recovery partition was destroyed; or at least overwritten by a win-7 version? This rather olde post has a very helpful response from Johnw - it's the best answer entry too.http://tinyurl.com/hl8nugxFollow John's routine and see if you can "see" any evidence of a recovery partition? This is another approach too:http://tinyurl.com/l7u3q5zand this may also explain "your" particular drive partitioning as was and possibly is now:http://tinyurl.com/hr4jceoIt would appear that in some more recent systems the PQ/Recovery partition is now flagged as D: ; and thus if per chance your IT chums got at that D partition on your laptop.. then they erased its contents when they reformatted it...?

Hi, I've been trying to find the drivers for this machine for almost a week now. I actually finally went out and bought a PCI network adapter for it so I could get this computer on the internet so that maybe I could let the internet find the drivers for me, but so far no luck unless I want to pay money. I've already tried the official acer drivers site and when you finally go to use the program for it you need to pay money or it won't work. I also tried another one as well and it was the same thing, they don't warn you about that ahead of time though. I have been to the Acer site that would give me drivers for free but they don't support xp, only Vista and up, because the computer was made for Vista.
Does anyone know a safe virus free site where I could possibly find XP drivers for this computer.

Thanks in advance

My problem is that after turning on the power for the very first time, it will not recognize my keyboard. I have several different keyboards and I tried them all- including the Acer keyboard that came with the PC.

I think my mistake was that before turning on the power, I had plugged in both an HDMI connection to my TV as well as a DVI connection to an Acer 23" monitor. Then when I powered up the PC, it defaulted to the HDMI output but I didn't realize that and was expecting it to displa on the monitor.

It took me a while to figure out that it defaulted to the HDMI connection. I started out by looking at my monitor and couldn't figure out why there was no activity on the monitor. But once I switched the TV input to "HDMI 1", I saw the output was displayed on my TV.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to recognize any keyboard now although it does make a "clicking" sound when I press keys on the keyboard.

I tried to press WIN+P to change the HDMI output to show the same output on both the TV and the monitor but it seems to default to "side by side" and the only thing that I can think to do now is to pull out the power cord plug and try to re-boo... Read more

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

Hey everyone,

I've been having this quite annoying problem for a few weeks now...more like a set of problems actually...

Basically over the last few months the laptop's become steadily rubbisher...it's been getting slower and the CPU doesn't seem to be able to take as much as it once could. E.g. just being on webcam on gchat will just slow the entire laptop down to the extent that the video becomes super-lagged! It won't run many processes simultaneously any more, and it's pretty annoying.

I'm running a dual core AMD Turion RM-72 processor, 2.1GHz, with 4 gig DDR2 RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD3200 Gfx card.

So the major problem here is that when I turn off the laptop, even if it's just to restart after installation of something, it just won't turn back on. It turns off fine, seems to be no problem with that, but when it boots up again, it will just turn off when it gets to the Starting Windows screen (I'm running Windows 7, btw). When I leave it off for a good fifteen odd minutes, then and then only can I restart the laptop, and it seems to just about get to windows by the skin of it's teeth...

I don't feel any cool or hot air coming out of the vents at the bottom, which I think means that my fan's probably clogged up, and although I sit the laptop on a usb cooling fan, it doesn't seem to be enough- would it be worth cleaning the fan out with compressed air or something...could that be the solution to my boot problem? Running SpeedFan without knowing anything about... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5535 Shuts Down on Boot

Hello Nitish and welcome to TSF,

Are you still in warranty? If so, call Acer to set up RMA.

First order of business... Clean out that fan. You should feel some air movement from the rear exhaust vent. That would explain the app crash for games, and possibly the restart issue as well.

If your computer is out of warranty I would suggest opening it up and manually cleaning it out. If it is completely clogged, canned air won't do anything.

I am having trouble finding documentation for your computer.

Second order of business...
Download and run the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic from the link in my signature. If there is an option, make sure you download the DOS utility and burn it to disc.

When you pull apart your laptop, check the label on the HDD for the manufacturer.

So I have this Acer Aspire M1201 and its been acting weird lately. I turned it off one night fine and the next day i turned it on and the blue light on top did not come on, but the system powered up, the hard disk spun up and the cd drive light was flashing non stop. So I reseated the ram, and then the processor, and then I reset the bios by removing the cmos battery and then I tore the entire thing apart down to the motherboard and rebuilt it all. Stoping and testing it as I was connecting parts to see if there was a part inside that was causing the issue. But there was nothing still. I thought it was done for, and I left it alone while I ate lunch. And when I came back to it, it was booted! I restarted the machine and it booted again and again over and over perfectly. I thought the problem worked itself out. But after turning it off and leaving it over night again, I had the same problem in the morning. I turned it on and left it on for 20 minutes and watched it and it ran with blinking lights on the front with no power light for a while. After about 10 minutes the power light came on, and then another 10 minutes went by and the computer restarted itself and loaded the bios and booted normally. So I thought I could make this work by waiting on it, but not today, now its been on for an hour and no boot or post or anything.

The problem with this computer is that it has sticky keys, first i thought it was the keyboard so i plunged in a usb keyboard and still had the same problems, keys don't react fast, when i turn caps lock on it turns it off and vise versa, when i use the mouse to click something it selects everything on my desktop and opens it all at once.

So i thought it might be a bad OS, so i decide to preform a reinstall of windows vista but when i go to the BIOS it wont let me change the boot order, when i press the keys to chang the order it just makes a beep.

so i went back and did more research and found that some other people are having the same problem and they told me to do i BIOS flash, but that did nothing.. this is the website..
http://geeklord.com/2008/01/19/solution-to-keyboard-lag-problem-in-acer-aspire-4520-laptop/
i am out of ideas, what do you guys think?

I have tried everything I can think of, I have already read through a few other threads with the same issue but none of the fixes work for me.It gets to the acer screen loads that little loading circle then it just goes black... I have tried pushing Alt+F 10 and it got to the acer screen and said "please wait" then the screen went black again. I have installed Windows 8 on a USB drive and have went into the bios and enabled the boot menu as well as change the order of the boot to the USB. This got me a bit closer but still stuck. After about 10 minutes it finally went to a purple screen and a window popped up asking to install. I selected my language and clicked install, it went to another screen that says "setup is starting" and it's been sitting this way for about 20 minutes now. I'm out of ideas. Don't have a clue why this is going on. This is a friend of mines computer, he said he was in the middle of playing a game and the laptop froze then something came up and then it shut off. When it booted up it wouldn't load past the acer screen.

A:Acer Aspire E15 will not boot past Acer logo

Try booting to Memtest86 you can burn a CD and I think it can also be run from a USB bootable flash drive. This will test your memory for problems and also let you know that the hardware in general will run (except the hard drive which is ignored at this stage. If the memory is good, then boot to your hard drive mfg's utility or Seatools from Seagate (DOS version) the same as Memtest but it tests your hard drive to see if it is just the drive that you cannot install on.If the memory and hard drive tests OK then you may just need to delete all current partitions on the hard drive before trying to install. If the memory does not test good, try cleaning the contacts on the memory with a soft pencil eraser and snapping them in and out 5 or 6 times to also burnish the slot's contacts. Then try memtest again on one stick at a time in case one stick is bad, swap and try again. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have an older Acer 800 series laptop whose hard drive has failed. Didn't want to put more money into it so I tried loading boot software onto external harddrive. Computer recognized hard drive and loaded factory software onto it, but I get a blue screen everytime it tries to boot off new drive. Any ideas?

I'd start with a Mediasonic docking station, external keyboard, mouse/trackball. USB DVD BluRay burner, external GB drive for backup, two 24" monitors, and a wired gigabit line. That is what I have.

Helping a friend try to make an Acer Aspire M1610 desktop (ca. late 2007) work. OS is 32-bit Vista. The computer belonged to an older gentleman who rarely used it and never updated it, so I started by cleaning out the garbage with CCleaner, then updating Vista thru SP2. During the update processes, it crashed 3-4 time (BSOD). Last thing I installed on it was Google Earth, which crashed it if you attempted to drag the border of the GE window out to make it larger, and sometimes just when GE loaded.

The computer came with the minimum 1GB RAM required to run Vista, and it was VERY slow doing everything, so I suggested replacing one of the 512MB memory DIMMs with a 2GB DIMM, which we did, so we now had 2.5GB of RAM. Some things, especially the bootup, went much faster thereafter, but it was still a slug otherwise.

So, took the drastic step of a destructive recovery using the disks Acer provides. . . and during that process, it also crashed a couple of times. After the recovery, started to download/install the updates. Crashes started again.

Thinking that maybe one of the original 512MB DIMMs might be bad and (of course) it was the one we left in. So swapped it for the one we had pulled. Made no difference, so the memory is not what causing the problem. Checked to make sure all cables were not loose, ran Speccy to check the CPU's temperature (usually 33-35 degrees C) and the drive's temp (44 degrees C), so crashes aren't due to overheating. Software originally ca... Read more

Hi all I'm new here I just finished typing up a well thought out post only to be asked to log in after hitting post and to find I had to start again GRRRRRRRRR

Ok so I will start again and keep it short and brief this time.

I need help please I want to upgrade my computers RAM I'm a begginer by the way but try my hardest to understand and research all I can. I'm glad to have found this forum cause it's a speedier process having people experienced in the area to look to for advice apposed to trying to learn it all on my own and figure it out. Anyways my computers details are:

*Acer Aspire T300 Desktop PC
*Windows XP Home Edition 2002 32 bit
*Intel Celeron CPU 2.50GHz
*248mb Ram

I'm a beginner and have been doing extensive reading on how to upgrade Ram ect. Basically my computer sucks and it is forever out of virtual memory. From what I've read the amount of Ram I have is pathetic. So I want to upgrade to the maximum amount of Ram my computer can handle 2GB.

I've been on crucial.com and it recommended that to do this I get two of these:
1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module

Module Size: 1GB
Package: 184-pin DIMM
Feature: DDR PC2700
Specs: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64 •
I've been looking around locally as I live in New Zealand for compatible Ram that I can get to upgrade and have come across a few places. But one that I found new and cheap on a online auction... Read more

Hello all, I've registered and am now making my first post on Tech Support Forum because I'm fed up with the crashes, freezes, and the BSOD my Aspire M5800 has been giving me for close to a year now. While I consider myself computer literate I am not as knowledgeable as most of the posters here, so I am grateful for any help given.

Here are my computer's specs:

? OS - Windows 7
? x64
? Originally running Windows Vista, upgraded with Acer Windows 7 upgrade promotion
? OS from disc, not original
? System purchased in August of 2009
? Windows 7 installed in February of 2010
? CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz (4 CPUs,) ~2.5GHz, 6144 MB RAM
? Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series - Driver Date is 11/25/2010
? MotherBoard: I assume 'Mainboard' is the same thing? If so:

Chipset Type: Intel G43 Express
Data Bus Speed: 1333.0 MHz
? Power Supply - Acer Power Supply - 500.0 Watt

The BSOD has appeared many times over the past year after an array of activities on my computer, from browsing the web on FF or Chrome, to playing games like WoW or Civilization, or listening to music on iTunes. It seems to crash without fail when I am using a lot of memory (RAM.) When running Memtest (with several windows open simultaneously as recommended by the program) the computer lags along (predictably) before BSOD'ing. This leads me to believe this is a memory-related issue.

In terms of which BSOD messages I have received, off the top of my head I can list:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Are you looking to see if other people think that its a good machine? Its kind of a subjective answer. What are you looking to use it for?

Looking at the product page for the X3400 desktop on acer's website, it says the computer comes with 4gb of ddr3, maybe just a typing error?

I've been handed an Acer Aspire E360 desktop that should have Media Center on it but is missing the c:\windows\system32\hal.dll file. The recovery partion (<ALT> + F10) refuses to run also.

I ordered the 6 cd Recovery Disk set from Acer to try and roll this system back to factory.

When I boot from the System Disk it asks for a language and then to insert the:

(RCD[Backup Disc DVD1/CD2])

into the optical drive. After inserting and clicking on OK it runs for a few seconds and ejects the disk then shows the exact same prompt. It just loops on this. If I insert any other disk it complains about a missing file and I have to reboot.

How do I get this system to reload Media Center from Acer's disks?

We have a Cisco wireless rounter and internet provided thru a time warner cable modem. My son just moved back in with us and we can not figure out how to get his Acer Aspire AX1300 desktop to commect to our internet. When we do network search it pulls up our internet no problem. When we hit the connect button it comes up with a box with 2 options 1. add add'l information or 2. connect to another network
when we click the conect and add addl info it comes up with another box wanting us to list username, password and logon domain. we have no idea what this is. we have tried adding our passcode and network id, but it does not work. He also has an Acer laptop, all he did was turn it on and search for the network then put in the key and password and it was connected. I believe both the CPU and the laptop are using windows vista. can anyone tell me what we are supposed to be putting into those 3 questions in order to get his laptop connected to our network and have internetaccess? He really needs to get connected to the internet (there arent even any unsecured internet connections around here he could borrow off of,:-I ) He has an online computer class and need to use his desktop because it is newer and much faster than his lapop.

A:Cant connect my Acer Aspire Desktop to our wireless internet

Hi;Have you tried disabling encrpytion on the router and trying to log on ?

Also, make sure that mac address filtering is not enabled
I also note that this may not have come with a wireless adapter as shipped.I am assuming that you have added an external wireless adapter.
Also,May we see:
Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I want to downgrade the factory loaded Vista to XP pro on my Acer Aspire M5640 desktop. I found some detailed instructions on line for doing this, but I don't get very far before I get a blue screen error message while the computer is in the process of booting up from the XP disk and loading the files while in windows set-up mode. It reads as follows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

"If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

"Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

"Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D6524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I have a feeling that this problem is unique to Acer computers, and I'm hoping that someone out there will have encountered this already and will know just what to tell me to do...

Welcome to TSG!

Did you:
Slipstream the SATA drivers into a new XP disk or
Provide the SATA drivers on a floppy disk by pressing F6 at the start of Setup when prompted or
Set the BIOS to ATA or Compatible mode instead of AHCI/SATA Native (wording will vary)?
Be easiest to change the controller setting in the BIOS if it has that option.

It is model number AM3970-EB22P. I bought it earlier today from Best Buy and here is the link to it:

Acer Desktop Computer featuring 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3770 Processor (AM3970-EB22P) : Performance & Gaming Computers - Best Buy Canada

My problem is that after turning on the power for the very first time, it will not recognize my keyboard. I have several different keyboards and I tried them all- including the Acer keyboard that came with the PC.

Before turning on the power, I plugged in both an HDMI connection to my TV as well as a DVI connection to an Acer 23" monitor.

It took me a while to figure out that it defaulted to the HDMI connection. I started out by looking at my monitor and couldn't figure out why there was no activity on the monitor. But once I switched the TV input to "HDMI 1", I saw the output was displayed on my TV.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to recognize any keyboard although it does make a "clicking" sound when I press keys on the keyboard.

I tried to press WIN+P to change the HDMI output to duplicate both the TV and the monitor but it seems to default to "side by side" and the only thing that I can think to do now is to pull out the power cord plug and try to re-boot with just the monitor connected and without the HDMI connection.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

A:My brand new Acer Aspire Desktop PC does not recognize any keyboard.

Hello.

It seems the sensible thing to do is take it back to the seller and let them sort it while it's under warranty.

Hi,

I'm having problem with my cousins computer. It's a Acer Aspire Desktop. The computer is working alright until they moved residency to another State. After they set it up, it won't work anymore, It will boot up and will say checking NVRAM then after it won't continue to load, just a blinking cursor.

I tried some suggestions already, resetting BIOS by removing the board battery, jumpers, unplugging drives, modem and memory card but still the same. I'm thinking to replace the battery but I just want to try out first other options.

I really appreciate any assistance

i don't think that you are able to select windows 7 or 8.1 from BIOS, maybe it's a bootloader that gives you that option. press Del to enter BIOS and check if D2D support is enabled, if not, enabled it and then press F10, save and exit.at next reboot, press Alt+F10 to enter Acer erecovery, if this doesn't work, you need to buy Acer recovery disks. Acer recovery mediaif you are in the US you can buy it:http://us-store.acer.com/erecovery/rcd/if you are outside the US, you must call/email your regional Acer support service:http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/

My laptop came with Windows 10. and performance and battery life was not ideal for me, so I decided to install Ubuntu 16.04 (keeping WIndows 10 with dual boot). I flashed Ubuntu. but I forgot to fix the Windows Boot Manager settings, so I could not select an OS at boot. After that I booted from USB again and selected "try Ubuntu before installing", and everything was fine. Then I set the laptop to sleep (I had to do something) using FN+F4 and everything was normal, after returning to the laptop about 4 hours later, it didnt wake up. I fell asleep with my laptop on my bed and in the morning I found it on the floor open. It didn't seem to receive any external damage at all, though every program froze up. Thinking that it would help, I turned it off and turned it back on. Now it won't boot past the acer logo. It gets to the green acer logo and just stays like that. Can someone please help? This is the only laptop I have and will have fir a while.

I've had the netbook for about 2 years, and it has performed very well.

One night I shut it down normally and the next morning when I turned it on windows XP Home edition started normal for about 20 secs, and a fast blue screen comes up which I can't read.

Then a b&w screen comes up saying windows could not start, and gave me several options. I've tried them all.

What happens is windows tries starting but I always come back to the black and white screen.

I can't get into safe mode.

I have the factory restore disks, but don't want to lose the data on the hdd.

Is the hdd toast?

A:Acer Aspire One won't boot

On the Safe Mode menu there is an option to disable the automatic reboot. That will allow you to check the blue screen for error codes.

When you say you can't get into safe mode does that mean you get the blue screen when booting to safe mode also?

Chances are the data is fine but there's no way to know without additional testing.

This thing has a small adapter, not a power supply, that looks like a laptop adapter. The output is 19volts at 65 watts.

According to Acer's forums, I can put a low profile video card in it. I don't think my 1 gig NVidia video card will work in it.

The desktop case has two DVI outputs. And a card slot that supports the pciex16 video cards.

I would prefer under 100 dollars.

Computer will run fine if you place a Linux live cd, or let it sit in the Bios without reboot.

Can access all files on harddisk with Ubuntu linux live CD

Borrowed a XP home cd and tried to do a fixboot and fixmbr

Computer is running AVG free and is up to date.

I don't mind if XP would be set back to factory defaults becuase theres nothing I really want to keep on that system and if there is anything I can save the info to a thumb drive.

Thinking of formatting and forgetting windows totally but don't want to go though the trouble of using a windows emulator to play sim city on linux but if thems the breaks I'd be happy to live with that.

I have an Acer Aspire AX3400 desktop running Windows 7 64bit. I have been having all sorts of problems over several months. The machine, when left unattended, appears to be always "recovering from serious error" with subsequent memory dumps. The machine would not shut down without me having to switch it off. Subsequently the machine would not start up properly. iTunes would not open without a reboot etc etc etc. I decided to backup all my data and restore to factory settings. This has failed/ is incomplete. It hung for several hours at different stages of the process. I keep getting the message "Setting up PC for first use" and does not move on from there. I'm unable to run in Safe Mode because the setup hasn't been completed. I have a restore disk but this hasn't helped. Would really appreciate some help.

A:Acer Aspire Desktop failed to restore factory settings

Did you try to restore from the disc or the recovery partition.

PS: My guess would be that one source of your troubles is iTunes. I have seen a lot of people having trouble with that.

I believe my desktop crashed. I know the monitor and the other hardware works. I hooked my monitor to my laptop and it works fine so does my mouse and keyboard. Before my Desktop computer stop working the monitor would say "no signal" and the keyboard and mouse would not light up. This happened several times before it finally crashed. I would have to reboot. Just before the crash, I could not update my antivirus software and the color was odd looking then the screen flashed something about a crash and that was the last time it came on. It was once recognizing the key board and the mouse, but now it does not recognize any hardware. It never did recognize the monitor after the crash. The monitor says "no signal." Is there any downloadable software that I can use to bring my Computer back to life? Window's Vista Home Premium is the OS. AMD 64 live. No extra recovery software came with my computer. Can someone please help me?

This is my first time ever needing to ask a question online for any reason, I can usually find the information I require; this time however, I cannot.

I have an Acer Aspire One (D250-1962) that I haven't been able to figure out, after what feels like exhausting every option, I am about to give up on it, which I'd really like not too since the hardware still seems functional in every way.

After turning the machine on it takes an abnormal amount of time -- 30 seconds or so -- to enter POST. It will display the ACER screen with Fast boot mode enabled and the POST info when disabled. In either instance, the screen only appears for 1 second, enough time to see it detect the HDD and to see the F2 (bios) and F12 (boot order) options.

I can access the BIOS, it will detect the HDD and appears to work normally. I can enter the boot menu also.

The problem occurs immediately after the POST when accessing the HDD. The screen flashes a lit black, then turns completely black with no back light, then after about a literal minute it will restart and repeat.

I have tried multiple HDD's and they both have the same issue. I have also ran diagnostics on the RAM. If I remove the HDD it will report back that No Bootable Media was detected (whereas it auto reboots with the HDD in, it will not auto reboot in this case). I've tried to boot from Windows AND Linux DVD/CD's as well as USB drives with bootable Linux, the problem is that in POST, the PC WILL NOT DETECT ANY US... Read more

Im not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I have an Acer Aspire M1201 Desktop computer that has a boot and posting issue. I got this machine with this problem and I'm in the process of restoring it. So sometimes it posts and boots and sometimes it doesn't.When it doesn't post or boot at all, sometimes the cd drive light flashes constantly and there is no live screen at all. Other times the cd drive light does not flash but the media
card reader light is on, sometimes both, and sometimes neither. If I let it sit like this for about 20 minutes it will restart itself and go thorough the bios and boot properly. Thats only when its cold, like if its been off for a few hours. If its been on for a while, its like every other time i turn it on there is either post and no boot or no post at all. Ive reset the bios by jumper and by removing the cmos battery. It does not beep at all when it does not post or not boot. I read that I should try updating the bios, but for some reason it wont let me. It says "Error loading driver" Or "incompatible with current OS". I downloaded the correct drivers for the machine and the only one it wont load as far as i know is the bios update. I've already replaced the cmos battery with ones i know are good, but to no success. I checked the ram and the processor to ensure they are seated correctly, and they are.
Any ideas? I need help with this.

Hi everyone, I checked all the threads here, but didn't find the same case I am experiencing

I have an Acer Aspire 5720 / Win Vista 32bit.

Today I regularly started up the OS (it was on Freeze mode), turned it off regularly and after a few minutes turned it on again (I did this because when i de-freeze my pc sometimes it happens that it does not catch the wireless connection)
After 5 mins I realized that it was stuck in a loop:

first, Acer white screen with Acer logo and possibility to get to BIOS by pressing F2,
then a short black screen with a little white line, with possibility of pressing F8, F10 and so on.

I tried safe mode and all those things, but no way: my laptop will alternate continously the white Acer screen and the black screen, with no way out.

I tried with a Vista Dvd made by someone else, since mine was pre-installed on the laptop and I didn't have any Vista dvd or cd.
Also tried with a Cd with Ubuntu on -in both cases changing the Boot Priority Order in the BIOS, making "USB CDROM" number 1 instead of n°6 in the priority order. But no way.

Made the memory test (check) but it's ok.

I have important data both on C: and D:....what can I do to save them?
thanks everyone

edit: I never get any error message. It just gets in the loop restlessly, it could go on forever if i don't power it off.
And I did not install any updates, or software, or whatever.

A:Vista will not boot - Acer Aspire

Are you hitting the F8 key early enough, you should start to tap on it as soon as the Acer logo dissapears.

You have set the USB CDROM to first in the boot order, are you using an external CD drive? The drive in the laptop will not be listed as a USB device, you need to set the internal CD drive to 1st in the boot order.

You can buy a device called a USB Hard Drive Adapter for about €10. If you get one you can remove your hard drive and use this device to connect it to another PC. You can then extract all your files and run some diagnostics on the drive which I can give instructions for.

If the copy of Vista you have does not exactly match your version of Vista and is at the same service pack level, or higher, it will not work. It should boot the laptop but you will not be able to use it for any kind of repair as it will produce an error. You can download a Vist repair disc for your version from here: http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

Just checked the above link and downloads are suspended but may be back soon.

I need your help people! I have a practically brand new ACER ASPIRE 4553 (1 month old, max) and I was experiencing some reboot failures and also having problems turning the computer on, how's that? Well, for example when rebooting the computer it did not turn back on (kept a black screen, no sounds, in other words wasn't booting). So I manually turned it off by holding down the power button and then back on, sometimes it took a couple of tries to make it work but usually that did the job.

The same logic goes for powering it on form the start..

Now, at this moment the computer won't boot up at any means, not that I know of.
I noticed that the HDD light isn't blinking at all, So I though that maybe for some reason the computer could not access the HDD, the other LED indicators (< is that correct?!) aren't blinking either, actually they blink just one time when I hit the power button and then stop. The power button stays on.

So I did some research and found that it could be a BIOS problem, the solution I found is for the Acer Aspire One notebook, therefore I couldn't figure out a way to make that work on the 4553, didn't even try 'cause I know how risky messing with the BIOS is.

*--* Quite a text right there hum? Okay, so, here I'm.. Can anybody help me, please? I honestly don't know what else to do.

BTW, here are the articles I found: http://apevere.blogspot.com/2009/01/...ck-screen.html / http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-9...-won-t-boot-up

A:Acer Aspire 4553 won't boot up

Well first, if this is a new laptop it is under warranty and you should first attempt to return it for replacement or repair. Making major changes on your own may void that warranty.

If the laptop will not boot at all you could try a power reset:
To perform a power reset:
Remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter or the power cord from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button on the computer down for 30 seconds and then release the button.
Plug in the AC adapter or power cord again, reinsert the battery, and power on the computer.
The BIOS upgrades for the 4553 show corrections to a no-boot situation, so you may be on the right track with a need for a BIOS upgrade (but see point one above). The problem is that you need to be able to get into the BIOS to do an upgrade on most machines, so until you can get it to BOOT that option is not available.

Flashing the BIOS is serious business. Do it wrong and you turn your shiny new laptop into a brick. So let's see if you can get into the bios first and check some things. Usually you press the DEL, F2, or ESC key when the laptop first starts to get in (check your screen - it will say what key somewhere). Don't make any changes unless you are sure of what they do. Just check to see you can get in and look around, then we can take it from there.

Also, be sure your model number is exact: 4553 and not 4553g. Installing the wrong BIOS will cause a very bad day.

Your 4553 laptop BIOS versions are here:

We have a netbook that crashed this afternoon - went to the wall paper when we were doing a virus scan

Did the scan - found the virus - deleted the virus - computer monitor went to the wallpaper.

Netbook has been shut down and started back up, several times. Now we get the wallpaper.

I can push F12 and start it in safe mode. But there are no icons and right clicking on the mouse does not bring up the normal menu,

Control Alt Delete brings up the task manager that shows a bunch of stuff happening - but none are shown as icons on the desktop. There is no task bar at the bottom either.

ANY help you can offer - would REALLY be appreciated

Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 3680 and yesterday, when I tried to boot up, it gives a black screen, no images, prompts, sounds etc. I can hear the fan and the lights on the front are on.

I have read many posts and tried some things but I am now lost. I have tried;

*Plugging in external monitor - cannot get anything on second screen
*Taking out battery, draining power, restarting numerous time - no luck
*Hitting function keys to try to get to set-up screen - no luck

The memory is very full (close to capacity) althouh I'm not sure if this is related.

I have read in some posts about dowloading BIOS files on a memory stick but I can't find any information specific to the 3680.

Thanks in advance for your help. I really need to get booted up so I can recover and backup a lot of personal files and photos.

Hi,

I have a Acer Aspire, which had a boot issue, so it wasn't able to boot correctly into Windows Vista Home Basic.

I ran the Acer Recovery by pressing F11 at boot time. And it was able to recover and boot into Windows Vista.

However after the automatic Acer Launch Install and a some smaller Windows Updates, the computer have the same boot problem as before.

I have tried to run Windows Vistas Startup recovery thingy, without luck.

Have anyone faced this problem before or know what may be causing it?
