Walmart Dell Computer

Q: Walmart Dell Computer

Just got a Walmart Dell pre-loaded with Windows Vista. I will be putting windows XP Professional on the drive instead. Only problem is there is no way to get the damn machine to boot from the CD rom so I can clobber the current format and re-format the drive NTFS and then proceed to load XP.

Even tried using a USB bootable cd drive instead of the SERIAL ATA DVD drive that comes with the machine. even after specifying the boot sequence order in the DELL cmos, still no luck... any suggestions? Machine is a Dell e521 model.

I have read some forums on this, but nothing has seemed to work. I used the TDSS thingy and spybot, but to no avail. I did run some reports requested by gringo in another forum thread.

For some reason today when I go to walmart.com and click on the down arrow to search only in a category it locks Cyberfox AMD 64 bit. I have to kill it in Task Manager. I notice there was a similar thing posted about Firefox back in 2013.

Firefox Portable 32 bit has no issue. I tried backing off Cyberfox to 34.01 and it still locks up.

Is anyone else running into this?

A:Walmart.com and Cyberfox x64 AMD lockup

I tried it for Walmart.com and Walmart.ca in IE11 and had no lockups, my processor is Intel though.

June 26th I went to Microsoft site and from there went to Walmart and pre-ordered 2 copies of the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for 99.92 each. On the 10th of this month Walmart emails me and tells me that my order has been cancelled. After several emails and phone calls, they tell me that it is their policy to check with the credit card company every 30 days for verification. They tell me that in July they check and am good to go. They check again in August and am good to go. They check again and am denied by my credit card company. I would think that to my credit card company, it would appear that someone has tried to make this same purchase three times in three months and my card company has gotten suspicious.
So in essence, would it appear that because of Walmart's ****ed up policy, this purchase that I had thought was going to cost me 200.00 is now going to cost twice that.

Anyone else had this lousy experience with this lousy outfit....just curious?

A:Windows 7 Pre-order from Walmart.com

No, but I'm sure there are more ppl than you who have maxed out there credit card. And you know the business can not charge the CARD until they can verify the product has/can be shipped. That is to protect you as well as the shipper. In this case Walmart.
Last time I checked you can still PRE-Order from Several 3rd party org over the internet... under the same they can not charge until they can SHIP.

I thought the $99.00 release was the DOWNLOAD version.
guess I was wrong.

I keep getting a pop-up that talks about the "$1,000 Walmart giftcard"...and then other website popups will appear. What is this considered? Adware or spyware? I was on Myspace the first time it popped up. I think something about Java was mentioned first, and then the Walmart pop-up came up. And every time I clicked on a website in Explorer, the website wouldn't appear except for the pop-up and some other sites. Earlier in the day I opened a plain-text e-mail on Yahoo which was supposedly from a friend but was really an ad for something -- I don't remember if it was for Walmart. Do you think this e-mail caused it? McAfee isn't finding anything. So is this adware or spyware and how do I remove it? And how do most people get this virus or whatever it is?? Thanks so much and please help!

Using my Win7 desktop and latest Chrome, I cannot get to Walmart.com or either of the two Walmart pages I previously bookmarked (possible Christmas gifts). I only get a blank white page. View source yields a blank page. I can get everywhere else including Target. Only Walmart. I am also direct wired to modem/router. I can get to Walmart.com using FFx or IE on the same desktop and I can also get there using Chrome on my wireless Win8 laptop. I get the same ping of 23.193.196.12 on desktop and laptop and Malwarebytes reports nothing. I see no unusual programs installed.

Besides no longer shopping at Walmart, anyone have any ideas?

Hi,I'm trying to save the large versions of the pictures from Walmart product listings you see in the middle of the screen when you hover over the smaller picture on the left, but I can't seem to do it. You don't get a menu when you right click on the picture and I can only find the small versions when I search Google Images. Help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks,Joe

A:Saving Pictures From Walmart

It can be done but it has to be done in a round-about way. When the larger image is shown use prt sc key on your keyboard to take a screenshot. Open up Paint, paste the screenshot into Paint. If you want only the larger image without all the other stuff on the page and you have a version of Windows with the snipping tool you can then use the snipping tool to isolate the larger image after you paste it into Paint. Then save the snip. If you keep the larger page view in Paint, you will have to save it. If you snip the image from Paint, you don't have to save the Paint image if you don't want to.Paint image, which has the advantage of the URL in it and could come in handy in the future.snip imageedit to add: when you take a screenshot you will not see anything happen.

Here is my reply:
Kristie,
I see that you have an incorrect IP address returned (158.85.130.12). I was tracking down a problem exactly like yours yesterday on a friend's computer. His network setting for DNS server had been hijacked and set to a server that was directing target.com and walmart.com to fake sites. This is an extremely dangerous situation, because they can further develop these fake sites to capture your information. I believe some virus was installed that caused this. I was very suspicious of the numerous coupon printing applications that were installed. I would suggest uninstalling all applications you don't need and looking for suspicious applications in the list of uninstallable ones. If you don't get the application which hijacked your DNS setting uninstalled, it could just perform the same action.
Here is how you can correct the DNS server problem (in most cases): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-tcp-ip-settings#1TC=windows-7 . There may be specific DNS settings that your Internet provider or network configuration require.

I have a virus (or multiple for that fact). I've been working on destroying them for weeks, and I can't seem to completely remove the viruses. I can defend it, just not remove it. The first virus that I started receiving was the $1000 Walmart Gift Card Pop Up virus. Anytime I open up a new internet browser, a new tab will pop up with this ad, a news article from cnn or other legit reporting companies in regards to working at home, and other winning ads. This is where my issues seem to have started from. After this started, about the next day I was trying to google search the virus and what it was and how to fix it when I noticed that my google searches have been redirected. Each time it takes me to another website that seems like what I was searching, but not the website that I wanted to open.I was able to take care of the redirect and had it corrected, but like I said I can defend it for a day and then the following day it's back again.

Hi, just bought an HP desktop computer at Walmart. I also bought a Walmart service computer care plan (which kicks in after the manufacturer's warranty ends), assuming it was from the manufacturer, not the store. I called up HP about their extended warranty and they also offer one. They seem comparable on price and as far as I can tell on repairs if a hardware problem arises.

I'm wondering about the quality of Walmart computer phone support. I know what HP is like from previous experience. For example, does Walmart use native English speakers? They told me they do but it seems unlikely to me that a company with Walmart's history would not farm the tech support out to Asia, but I can't check it for another year.

I'm thinking of either bringing the Walmart plan back, which they said I can do, and then buying the HP extended warranty -- OR maybe keeping the Walmart one and also buying the HP one. I'm not that up on computers and usually run into troubles I can't handle on my own fairly frequently. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Tom

A:Walmart vs. HP warranty and phone support.

Hi Tom -

If the HP extended warranty includes parts & labor and the price is affordable to you - BUY IT and fore go the Walmart phone support.

A:Solved: NO SOUND - emachines XP from Walmart

1. Right Click on My Computer, Left click on Manage.
2. Click on Device Manager, you should notice on the right hand side icons with a yellow symbol next to them, this shows the device is unknown, or drivers are not installed.
3. Right click a device you are looking for, left click on properties.
4. Click on the Details tab on the top of the menu that popped up.
5. You should see some code in the middle that looks similar to this:
"PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_169C&SUBSYS_308&"
The important pieces are:
VEN_14E4 is Vendor 14E4
DEV_169C is Device 169C for Vendor 14E4

You can take this information to the website http://www.pcidatabase.com and find the specific device information for the drivers, then go to the manufacturer website and look for the drivers.

Hi,
Just downloaded 13 songs at 88 cents each from Walmart.com. When I use Windows Media Player 9.0, it says that I don't have a license for this music, so therefore I cannot burn a CD, they are in My Music folder on my computer. I am running Windows XP. What can I do??

Thanks.........

A:Windows Media Player & Walmart.com

This makes sense?

Play your song from Windows Media Player first. You must play any song before you transfer or burn it so that Windows Media Player can acquire the license for it.
Select the songs or playlist you want to copy.
Make sure your portable device is connected to your computer.
Click the "Copy to CD or Device" tab in Windows Media Player.
Click the "Copy" button to transfer the music.

I was at a loss to determine why accessing www.walmart.com from any browser returned a blank browser screen. I tried a lot of things that are mentioned on other sites. I was going to post a question here when I thought of one other thing to check and sure enough that lead me to the problem that I was then able to fix. I am posting this message so others that run into this issue can try to steps shown including what I found to be the fix for my particular case. Others that have a problem of a few specific web sites that do not display at all regardless of which browser they use, could walk through these steps to try to track down the problem.

1) Reset the computer
2) Try running the browser without add ons
3) Run a virus scan
4) Check the HOSTS file to make sure the website name was not added to this file to return the wrong IP address instead of what comes back from the DNS server
5) Verify that the DNS server address in the TCP/IP settings for the adapter is pointing to a valid DNS server (control panel / network / adapter settings / right click on the adapter you are connected to / click on TCP/IP IP4 and look at the properties. Insure the DNS is one that you know is a good one. If you are not sure of your ISPs DNS server address, you can use 8.8.8.8 which is Google's DNS.

In my case, trying 1 - 4 did not resolve the issue. I looked up the correct IP address for the web site that was not displaying correctly using web tools. I then opened a DOS window (execute cmd.exe) ... Read more

System: WindowsXP Home Edition with Service Pack 1

I formerly had Walmart as my ISP, 56K phone modum service. I used it for over a year uneventfully. During the week between Xmas and New Years 2005 it suddenly ceased to function.

My local Walmart store informed me that my area was no longer a Walmart ISP service area. They had pulled the plug on me without warning. So, I signed up with Adelphia high speed cable service. Once I was back on line and confident in the new service I decided to uninstall the Walmart software. It was taking up 186MB of disk space on my D: drive. It would not uninstall.

The Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" utility couldn't find the Walmart installation even though the Walmart icon was present in the "Currently installed programs:" list. I looked in the "wmconnect" folder. There was a link to an uninstall program. I clicked the link, nothing.... I followed the link path and looked in the destination folder, no uninstall program there. I found the notepad INSTALL document and there was a record of the Uninstall program being installed in the folder where the link was pointed. Where did the Uninstall program go??? Did Walmart hack my computer and erase it?

I tried simply deleting the Walmart folders but that corrupted Internet Explorer and I had to do a System Restore back to a point before deleting the folders. I no longer had the Walmart CD so I can't reinstall to replace the uninstall utility then u... Read more

Hi, any opinions on the quality of Walmart computer warranty and phone support? I just bought a desktop HP from them and unknowingly also got their extended warranty instead of from the manufacturer.

I wondering, for example, do they use native English speakers for their technical phone support? They said they do but I have a hard time believing a company with the history of Walmart wouldn't farm it out. And the warranty doesn't kick in till after a year when the manufacturers' ends.

I don't know if I should return the Walmart one and buy the extended HP warranty. Thanks.

Tom

A:Walmart vs. HP warranty and phone support.

Neither extended warranty is worth it. I can guarantee that Wal-Mart sends their tech support off-shore as does HP. The only way to guarantee in-US support is to pay through the nose for a premium support contract, and I doubt they're even offered to consumers.

I have had problems accessing Walmart.com and my work site of lps.org . I have read many forums and other information about this same problem. I am using AVG Free 8, I also have Spybot installed. I have uninstalled each of these separately and restarted with no luck. I also have Hijack installed, but I don't know how to read it. Another thing I've read about is the rundll.exe trojan. I do have this in my system32 folder. When I tried to delete it, I was told I didn't have authority to do so.

I have Vista and this occurs in both Firefox 5 and IE 7.

I could use some help. This is driving me crazy. Thanks! Beth

A:Can't Access Certain Sites, Eg Walmart And My Work Website

I'm just going to give this a shot and say try going into safe more and deleting the trojan. You tried spybot, which is my usual favorite of free spyware catchers.. Hm. Try, if you can't delete it in safe mode, using Spybot in Safe mode, and if you still don't get it, I had twoviruses once that were giving me the same error. Combofix killede them right on the bat (Once again, in safe mode.)

I've been having this problem for quite some time and I have given up trying to fix it myself. I get the website cannot be displayed message.
I have checked for viruses and spyware - nothing found
I have updated my computer including going to ie7 - nothing
I have checked my hosts and only have the example acme showing
I have booted and rebooted, cried and prayed - nothing
I have tried going to proxy stupid censorship and got the message: website has taken the security cert. of another website, this website may be trying to obtain your personal information...etc. It gave me the option to proceed or not to and I looked up and where I had typed in overstock.com it was now the finger factory. I closed the browswer window.
I am running a wireless router but couldn't find anything in the firewall. Have manually adjusted security settings, pop ups, cleared the cache, checked system disks, and am now completely of ideas. All the information from above I have gotten from cruising the help boards here and there.
Any help or advice would be great. Oh yeah, I have a true copy of Windows XP, but I do not have the disks. I was given this laptop after it was purchased from an auction. So I have no idea and am not sure where to look to see if this guy blocked them somewhere else. He did not totally clean the computer before selling it. All file titles were still here, just the files were gone.
Thank you so much for any help or advice!

A:Cannot open certain sites like overstock, walmart, officemax xp sp2 ie7

I am having the same problem - Overstock and WalMart are the two vendors whose sites I cannot get to, from my desktop running xp sp 3. I can get to them both from my laptop running same OS. Have tried everything you have as well, matched up every single setting within Internet Options in IE 7 and Mozilla Firefox both. No luck. Will be extremely interested to hear what if anything you find out.

Hello!

Not exactly sure what to call this, but what's happening is I get these popups - sometimes just out of nowhere - "congratulating" me on being selected to win a $1000 WalMart gift card. I get other popups, too from places like "www.consumernewsonline.org" and "http://winterwinner.s3.amazonaws.com" to name a few. I'm fairly certain this all stems from the same "infection," for lack of a better word, as it all started happening at the same time - about four or five days ago. It doesn't seem to matter what site I am currently on, either, or for how long. These popups appear to be totally random. The only thing that doesn't seem to be random, but also started at the same time, is, in addition to the popups, almost all my Google searches are redirected to various other sites.

Again, since ALL of this started happening at more-or-less the same time, I am fairly certain it's all connected.

I am hoping you can help me out here, but please be aware I am not overly computer literate, so go easy on me and I will do my best to follow your instructions!

Thank you so much for any help you can give me here!!

I have tried Lavasoft, Trend Micro Systems, Norton and Microsoft trial products in both SAFE and NORMAL modes WITHOUT SUCCESS in eliminating the problem. I tried System Restore to no avail. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. In addition to ads for winning the Walmart Jackpot everyday and other fast home money making schemes, other manifestations include the following:at the appearance of a fake ad, I usually hit control alt delete, and terminate the fake ad window. The system responds by closing all open internet explorer windows. Sometimes a relaunch of IE 8 will yield no response from the system, an hour glass turns into an arrow with no IE window. Same is true for other launched applicationsfrequently, I get no internet sound from the speakers for internet pages like CNN video reporting(though inexplicably music plays in Windows Media Player). I check the control panel sound panel. No audio speaker is selected. I follow the troubleshooting process to select an audio speaker and reboot as instructed. I get internet page sound -- the problem appears corrected. I get an offending unsolicited popup and the speaker sound is lost again. When I google search, several of the referenced links although appearing legitmate do not link to the stated page -- I think this is called click jacking.Help please.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

For those who are getting a new comp with Vista Premuim on it and you have Walmart Connect ISP...now know as Netscape Connect, You will find out when you go to install it..it will tell you to call for a cd and they will tell you it is not compatiable... There is a way to download it. First of all download from Walmart Connect download site and save install to your desktop.. after that right click on setup icon and go to properties. Click on Compatibilty... check off RUN THIS PROGRAM COMPATIBILTY MODE FOR and use Windows XP service pack 2. Then click apply then ok.. You then can install it... After you install it you need to right click on Walmart Connect icon and do the same as you did to install it for it to work.. I have had no problems with it if you do let me know.. Maybe i can help.. When i call Netscape and they told me that it cannot be done..that when i found how to make it work and called them back told them.. they are not wanting to tell people about this they say they know it can be done and it will not work and if theres a problem down the road they most likly cannot help you with your issue..then told me glad i got it to work.. think they are full of it and trying to get people to switch to Netscape itself..or now they will start using what i told them,, But thats just my Opinion....Now i am not sure if it works with other Vista but does with Vista Premuim good luck....

I want to switch from my dial up slow as death aol/compuserve shadow wmconnect or walmart connect but I can't take my old and new email or personal filing cabinet with me to my new fast as lightning(hey, after dealing with wmconnect/aol ANYTHING would be fast!) DSL service bellsouth.net. I have been told by wmconnect that this can't be done but I know there are ways to get it moved with aol and this is an aol company. Wmconnect first refused to give me the POP3 server address, then said they did not have one then when I threatened to cancel they said they were just minutes away from developing a way to make wmconnect compatible with outlook express and you could get your mail transfered over. The email and personal filing cabinet(favorites or bookmarks) are .pfc files and I can't get anything other than wmconnect software to open them. I heard there was a beta version of something that would make this work for wmconnect but I can't find it. Anyone out there have any ideas? Thank you very much!

Whenever I open IE/Firefox, after surfing for a few minutes, another window opens up & goes to random sites & there is a pop up window that comes up & says "You've won a $1000 Walmart giftcard...Click here for details" & I can't navigate away from it. I clicked the "X" in the top righthand corner to try & close it out but it doesn't close it and when I try to close the big window, it won't close. I can't get back to my other window (the one I was in before all of this starts) & I can't minimize & get to my desktop or anything else. It takes over my computer so that I will be forced to click on the pop up itself. I can CRL+ALT+DEL it & get it to close but my computer freezes & I have to close it & remove the battery & completely restart it. It also is redirecting my searches-when I Google something I can get the results but when I try to click on a specific item, it redirects me to other sites such as scour.com & stop-zilla.com among the few. I have installed SpyBot Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & McAfee (previously had the free AVG Anti-virus) & ran all of the scans independently & they have found various things that was supposedly quarantined & repaired. But after running these programs I am still randomly getting the Wal-Mart giftcard pop-up. I hope this explains enough, sorry I thought I was pretty computer literate up until I got this bug!... Im currently on Windows XP because when I installed Windows Vista Ultimate, it wouldnt let me install/use Walmart/Netscape Connect internet browser. I read somewhere that right-clicking on it, and making it to where its compatible with XP, it should work? But I think I remember trying it and it didnt. I dont remember, because this was a couple months ago, and I really want to use Windows Vista, but Walmart hates it.

Any solutions?

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE [email protected]#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Hey guys. I've tried everything I know to try. A few days ago, I started getting the google redirects. Yesterday, the walmart giftcard popups began as well. I've run MBAM and SAS in normal and safe modes, and each has cleaned all suspicious files. I am having no luck getting rid of this thing! I ran TDSSKiller, and it came up with the Rootkit.win32.Backboot.gen. The only options it gives me are skip, copy to quarantine, and restore. I have no idea what to do next!

I'm running Windows XP SP3

Thanks in advance for any help you can give...

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

I really hope someone can help me here. We recently traded "up" (ha!) to a PC running Windows Vista Home Premium. Besides the basic annoyances already in these threads, I am having one specific (and sounds like unique) issue that I am hoping someone can help me with. We use Walmart.com on-line photo uploads a lot - at least we used to with our XP machine. Now, on the Vista machine, we lock up everytime we try to upload multiple photos. We've already tried (unsuccessfully) the following:
- Walmart.com tech support: they told me to disable internet security, which I did - to no avail.
- Windows tech support: they want $59 just to talk me.
- Searched countless online forums (how I got here) - to no avail.

Since it still works fine on our XP machine, I have to think it is something with Vista.
As I said, I've already followed most of the advice on the security settings, etc... so please don't just tell me to do that again. Any other suggestions?

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

Hackers claiming affiliation with the hacktivist group "Anonymous" have allegedly leaked more than 13,000 username and password combinations for some of the worlds most popular websites, including Amazon, Xbox Live and Playstation Network. The stolen personal information was released in a massive text document posted to the Internet file-sharing website Ghostbin (now deleted), on Friday. The document contains a huge number of usernames and passwords, along with credit card numbers and expiration dates. The news came just a day after the hacker group Lizard Squad compromised Sony’s Playstation and Microsoft’s Xbox Live gaming networks on Christmas day, which is estimated to have affected Xbox's 48 million subscribers and PlayStation's 110 million users, making it a total of more than 150 million users worldwide.  However, data breach of 13,000 users is not the biggest data breach we've ever seen. When millions of passwords are used for sites around the globe, chances are very minor that our’s among those compromised. But still it’s important to note as these accounts come from a variety of online sources and among those, some are really very popular.Hackers leak 13,000 Passwords Of Amazon, Walmart and Brazzers Users Just to be on the safe side, users are advised to change their passwords if they have accounts on these  websites.

My battery for the above computer has expired and needs to be replaced but I do not know who sells replacement batteries XBT9E1 or compatible ones.

A:How do I buy a battery for my Dell computer Mod. Dell DE051

I believe the replacement battery you are after is a CR2032. If in doubt take the flat battery to your electronics store and ask for the equivalent. They're not very expensive.

Can anyone suggest a way to get a dell 770 printer to work on a non dell win98 system?

My friend was given the printer from his friends, but it's a dell and it's pretty muh brand new so he doesn't want to throw it away. It's also better than his current printer

Anyway, he uses the dell install disk but once it begins and runs the setup app it gives a message akin to pirating. Saying something like -this computer does not support dell , or something like - this computer is not a dell.

Can anyone offer advice. I did a search on google and dells' site and here.
I couldn't quite find anything that might lead me to an answer..?

Thanks

I have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

A:Dell Computer PC will not load Windows install CD from computer crash

See if you can reset the BIOS hardware/software connections and then clear the CMOS to access your Windows 7 install disc.
Resetting hardware/software connections in the BIOS and clearing temporary memory of corruption:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

Clear the CMOS:Use your system manual to find instructions for accessing the BIOS...
In the BIOS, go to the EXIT screen...

Thought i would open a thread since i noticed the thread i left a comment on was an old thread...
i got a New Laptop today and when i tried to load my Netscape connect onto it it told me that the version was too old and that i needed to get a version with a .32 bit or 64 bit..the laptop is running windows vista.. my old one and my desktop both have windows XP and it has run fine on them.. but windows vista seems to not like it much.. i have no clue on how to do get a new version of netscape connect considering that the program switched to netscape sometime ago.. all i have is an old cd from walmart that walmart doesnt supply anymore.. and i cant find an up to date download on the internet anywhere for netscape connect.. its like they dont even make the program anymore ( go figure )

hoping someone can help me and has had this same problem before otherwise i am going to have to try and find another provider which i dont really want to do at the moment...

Please Help... going out of town in a couple weeks woudl like to have my internet working on my laptop...

thanks for all the help

A:Netscape Connect (old Walmart Connect)and Windows Vista

Hi. . .

Good idea on starting your own thread as this means that all found within pertains to your system and your particular system only.

I am unfamiliar with the "Netscape connect (Old Walmart Connect).

Please elaborate in as much detail as possible and I will gladly look into it.

I can tell you that Netscape is now a subsidiary of AOL and that all support for the Netscape browser ceased on March 1, 2008.

Is this a dial-up connection? The CD you mention - what year is it from and have you found any Internet links to it that would provide me with a copy of it so that I may test it to ascertain the problems you are having?

What is it that this software does for you that connecting via wireless to the Internet does not? I ask as a distant family member recently asked me for help w/AOL dial-up as they were under the impression that it was needed to access their AOL which is not true at all. I showed them that they simply had to enter AOL.com under IE7 or Firefox (while connected to the Internet - via wifi or Ethernet) and then were able to access their AOL email account.

Regards. . .

Have u looked in the BIOS and mad sure the CD is the first boot device, this should be installable (changeable) in the BIOS, altho your BIOS might not have that option, and u can leave it that way as it will not mess up anything. Once u boot to the Windows CD u should have options to format or anything u need to do.

I would like to install a new video card for my dell machine. Here is a list of my specs...

Dell Inspiron 531s
Windows 7 32-bit
Power Supply Unit: 250w
1 PCI-Express slot

Current Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
(motherboard gpu)

Here is the GPU I'm looking at:

Newegg.com - SPARKLE SFPX95GT512U2L GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
I am concerned about the weak power supply and the motherboard GPU interfering.

Should I be considering a external power booster?

I would love to hear your suggestions.

A:New GPU for Dell Computer

I would look at the power supply and see if a normal size new power supply would fit into that case, if not I would "re-case" the whole machine when I add the new video card so I wouldnt have any power issues.

It seems that your virtual memory is quite low, Go to your uninstall and try uninstalling programs and such that you rarly or never use. Low space on your hard disk usally is the cause of a slow computer. Every time after I get the BSoD, and a message which tells me their is a problem with the ram. I read about this problem, and I have figured out that the install messed with the ram settings. I don't know how to fix it though. I can boot up with linux cd though. What should I do?

A:SP2 install on Dell computer

Attempting to install XP SP2 in a computer has no effect on how RAM modules function.

What is the model name and model number of that Dell, and how much RAM is installed?

-------------------------------------------------------------

Are you using an actual XP SP2 CD?

Have you deleted all current partitions, created a new C partition, formatted that new partition with the NTFS file system, and then attempted to install XP SP2?
