Driver doesn't work on startup???

Q: Driver doesn't work on startup???

Every time I start up the computer, my video card stops working. When I look in Device Manager, it shows the video card there, but with an exclamation mark by it which means it's in a 'problem state'. I can fix it by reinstalling the driver, but I have to do this every time I turn it on! How do I make it work every time?

Sometimes when I start up my computer nothing happens when I try to type. Then when I reboot it works. It seems to happen if I move the mouse during startup. If I don't move the mouse it starts up normally.

It also seems to have started doing this when I made some changes in my Kaspersky Anti Virus. I updated to version 5.0.227 from 5.0.142 and also I changed the automatic update schedule from once a day to every 3 hours.

The man at the Kaspersky forum suggested I disable the "Protection from network attacks" feature. They said I should because I also run ZoneAlarm Pro and there could be conflicts. This didn't help.

This is all I've done so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You guys have been a big help in the past. Before I started frequenting this forum I had lots of trouble with spyware and viruses and now my internet experience is almost trouble free. Thanks guys.

I recently had some problems with my on board ethernet where it was locking up my entire system. This was eventually pinned down and I put an SMC PCI Ethernet 10/100 Card into my machine which fixed the problem.

However I've had a different problem ever since. Whenever I boot (or reboot) my computer, the Ethernet connection doesn't work for a good one to two minutes after start up. No amount of attempting to disable/re-enable the connection, or using that Windows Repair My connection thing will fix this and I just have to wait. Windows says it is connected but it doesn't work and then after a mintue or so it says the connection is disconncted, then it reconnects within a second or two and then will it work.

After this the connection is perfectly stable until the next time I start Windows. Also I don't have this problem on my brother's computer which connects to the same 4-port router.

Are there any Windows / software settings I can try changing before I try swapping it out for another Ethernet card?

Most of this probably isn't relevant but I'll list it all anyway...

I recently bought a C.D. and wanted to upload it to iTunes and put it on my iPod, but it would not load. I thought, "Oh, it must have a security thing." So I tried it in a C.D. player. It worked. I tried once more with the computer, and it failed. The driver shows up. But there is no C.D. I even tried another C.D. to see if it was just the one I had bought, but it wasn't. Any ideas?

A:My CD Driver doesn't want to work.

Hi lol_alex_lol30 and welcome to TSF

I can help you with some basics, but you will need to check further to get all the data you need, as I don't upload to iTunes.

I'm assuming you bought an audio CD. I'm also assuming that iTunes would like to see MP3 audio files....You will need to find that out. This though, is true. When you burn an audio CD from music files, those files are most likely in the form of WAV on your harddrive. They are burned onto the CD with a .cda extension and are named track 1, track 2, etc. The song names are not shown on the CD if you view it with Windows Explorer.

Extracting songs from an audio CD to harddrive is called ripping the song. Songs end up on your harddrive in the form of "songname.wav". songname will be Track1, Track2, etc. and you will have to rename each to have the actual song title associated with the song. WAV files are quite large and about 24 songs is the maxium that you can burn onto an audio CD.

Mpeg level 3 (MP3) is a compression specification that can be used to make much smaller audio files. A 20,000,000 (20 meg) WAV file will compress into a MP3 file that is about 2 meg or less. A file that is 10 to 11 times smaller than the WAV file. I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that small files upload much faster than very large ones. Also you can put about 240 mp3 files on a CD, but only about 24 wav files. You could also appreciate that your ear can't tell the difference between the sound of... Read more

Occasionally, my laptop's touchpad won't work on start-up. This does not happen all the time, it appears to happen every other boot. I can plug a USB mouse at any moment and have that work fine. This also only happens on Windows 7 from what I can tell, as I dual-boot with Ubuntu and Ubuntu has never given me this problem before. I can also use safe mode with Windows 7 and have the touchpad function fine all the time.

If I look into the device manager when the touchpad is unresponsive, it will say that the PS/2 mouse failed to start.

I've updated it to the most recent driver as found here:

But this problem still persists. Any ideas how I can figure out what's wrong?

After installing a new graphics card with barnad new drivers from nVidia to boot, my digital vibrance doesn't work on startup. By this I mean that after the taskbar icon turns up it works fine. But during the login screen and a few seconds before startup it doesn't go.

It used to

Any ideas?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

A:Digital Vibrance doesn't work on startup!?

My understanding of this is that drivers are loaded in 'Load Order Groups' and the newer the driver installation, the later it loads in the specific group.

So, on a clean install with just MS drivers you install Nvidia drivers, then later you install a slew of other programs/processes which add more drivers to that group (and possibly others).

Thus, Nvidia drivers in their group load earlier than those later additions in the same group.

However, you uninstalled those drivers and added new ones which basically go to the end of the line and load last in their group.

Like I say, my understanding.

I have noticed when I restart my computer or bring it out of hibernate the computer will show the HP logo and a message saying press ESC key for Startup menu.  I press the ESC key and nothing happens.  If I hold it, the computer beeps.  My work around for this is to turn off the computer and turn it on.  My laptop cold boots fine.  I have a HP Pavilion DV6 running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Intel Core i3 processor.  I have looked at  other posts regarding this topic but none of them mentioned if the computer could cold boot.  I inferred from some posts that the computer was not starting at all.   I only experience the problem after hibernating or restarting.

Hello everyone! I have a problem and I hope someone will help me. I was having a spyware or adware on my computer, and when my anti-virus detected it, I wanted to delete it but it won't let me. (as usual). So I went to msconfig and checked Diagnostic Startup. When I was in Diagnostic Startup mode, I found it, and erase it. When I checked back to a Normal Startup, and after my computer rebooted, my windows start button looked like I was still in Diagnostic Startup but half of my programs were loading up. So, I have few programs that are not working now (like Norton), and I don't have sound either. Also, I don't have Internet anymore. I don't see any connections at all. Is there any chance, besides reinstalling Windows to put everything back to normal?

Hi, and thank you for your time.

Guess I'll start from the beginning. My laptop (Asus x401u windows 7 home premium 64bit) was abruptly disconnected from it's power source, and I haven't been able to get into windows since. Upon startup i'm sent to the windows error recovery screen with two options available: "Launch startup repair (recommended)" and "Start windows normally".

Upon selecting the first option windows attempts to load files ultimately resulting in a black screen with the cursor appearing several minutes later, requiring a hard shutdown (holding the power button).

Upon selecting the second option windows tries to start, but ultimately fails, ending with a quick flash of a blue error screen (pic related), then reboots, taking me back to the windows error recovery screen.

Now, after having no luck with those two methods, I went to the advanced boot options, which offers the following 12 selections:

1. repair your computer(which attempts to load files and ends in another black screen),

2. Safe mode (which attempts loading files but gets stuck at "\ Windows\ System32\ drivers\CLASSPNP.SYS", then reboots to windows error recovery screen,

3. Safe mode with networking (same result as safe mode),

4. Safe mode with command prompt (again, same result),

5. Enable boot logging (haven't tried it),

6. Enable low res video (640x480) (seems irrelevant),

7. Last known good configuration (advanced) (windows attempts to start, but a... Read more

All of my system sounds work fine, as do all of the wav files in the C:\Windows\Media directory. All except for Windows Startup.wav. When my computer starts up, the sound does not play, and when I double click the file in the folder, it only makes a brief "click sound".

I tried replacing it with one from my friends Windows 7 machine, but it strangely just makes the same "click" sound in WMP.

I have tried sfc \scannow to fix some small registry hiccups, and it actually fixed everything, except for this. I have tried to toggle the sounds etc. / reboot, but none of those seem to be working. any help is appreciated.

Hello,

In Windows 7, I am trying to figure out if I have any faulty drivers. I have been having BSODs for a while, and I've removed RAM etc. So the next step was to test drivers.

But I can't run Driver Verifier. No matter which drivers I select, the Driver Verifier causes a blue screen as the windows 7 logo starts to come together. I have to clear the settings in Safe mode to get it back.

Is there any way to fix this, or any other way to check my drivers?

(My most recent BSODs have said caused by dxgmms1.sys and tcpip.sys -- lots of IRQL_not_less_or_equal and system_thread_exception_not_handled.)

A:Driver Verifier Doesn't Work...

The purpose of Driver Verifier is to cause a Blue Screen of Death.
Analysis of the memory dump files will then (if it's worked) let the analyst know what driver caused it.

You'll know this because there will be a Driver Verifier Enabled memory dump.

FWIW - I had a system at work today that would spit out the IRQL error messages, but not the Driver Verifier Enabled error messages. I finally enabled all settings in Driver Verifier and then rebooted. An hour and a half later the system was still booting with the Windows 7 splash screen.

The point here is that the settings that you use in Driver Verifier are critical - and are determined by the type of BSOD events you are getting (for example, if you have BAD_POOL_CALLER errors, then you want to enable the POOL checking options in Driver Verifier).

Please zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory and upload/attach the .zip file to your next post.

Dear Sir,
yesterday I installed windows 7 home premium x64
Before installing nvidia driver it runs well with windows default video performace (800x600).
But after installing nvidia driver, it doesn't work perfectly
MY problems after installing nvidia driver
1. It runs well before showing the start up window (welcome window where I have to entry my password)
2. But when I run the windows in safe mode it works perfectly
3. You can say that it is for driver problem / driver software problem. But I used the driver in the previous windows 7 home premium x64
If you need anything related with my problem, then comment in down
Thanks.

Hi rx123yz. Your issue sounds like that Windows have installed its own drivers over new ones that you installed. Remove all the old drivers and use Driver Sweeper. This little software removes all the bits of the old drivers. Below is the link to download the S/W. Before uninstalling the old drivers, download the latest drivers for your card from Sevenforums or from Nvidia site and install them after uninstalling and sweeping off the old drivers with driver sweeper.

Hi,
I?ve got some problem with my W-LAN device. Recently I?ve got a strange feeling about it because some things didn?t work correctly, so I decided to reinstall the driver. It didn?t work directly (I don?t know why), so I tried to uninstall it first, to install it again. Now I got this message:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

An update for the latest driver was useless because I already got the latest one. I tried both installing it from the device manager several times, which failed everytime with this message to come, and by the driver setup (there is a folder available on my computer with all drivers installed on it), which seemed not to have any effect, although it said "Installation complete". Has anyone a solution for me?
I?m going to reinstall my Windows soon, but it?ll take some weeks to that. But until that, I need my W-LAN to work again!
I?ve got Win 7 Home Premium 32bit, my W-LAN device is a Broadcom 802.11g, my notebook is a Lenovo G550.

Thanks for any help, Bennington

Hello folks,
I just installed Windows 8 Professional 64 and tried to get Wake on Lan running. I already tried to disable the fast startup. But it didn't change anything. My Network driver is the newest one and Wake up on Magic Packet is enabled in the adaptersettings.
With my old Windows XP on the same machine, wake on lan is still working fine.

I just checked the network led, when the computer is off. After a XP shutdown its on but after a Windows 8 shutdown its off.
Network adapter ist the Marvell Yukon 88E8056.
Any suggestion what I can do or what I may have overseen?

A:Wake on Lan doesn't work, although fast startup is disabled

Is Wake On LAN turned on the BIOS ?? Honestly, I've only seen once that the OS kept WOL from working, so I'm intrigued by your problem.

You mentioned that Fast Startup is disabled. Are Fast Startup and WOL mutually exclusive ?? Just asking.

The light being off after a Windows 8 shutdown seems odd as well. I honestly don't know what to make of that.

Keep us posted as to your progress. I'm curious about this one.

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've posted here, so sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

When Windows 8.1 was released, I upgraded my current Windows 8 installation. Overall, it has been a great experience. However, I've run into a couple of strange problems that I have never had before.

The first problem is, whenever I boot into Windows 8.1, my USB devices don't work right away (keyboard and wireless mouse). It doesn't matter if I restart my computer or have just turned it on. In order to get the keyboard to respond, I have to unplug and plug back in the cord. It's very annoying to have to do this every time I boot Windows.

The second problem is, while Windows is logging in, I get a UAC prompt. The UAC prompt says "Service Control Manager Configuration Tool". This prompt also happens every single time I log on, which is also very annoying.

I have checked my startup programs and have found nothing obvious that could solve these problems, but maybe I'm missing something.

Does anyone have any ideas? Have these problems happened before? I really would prefer not to do a clean install since everything else is working perfectly and it's not slow at all.

Thanks guys for the help !

Hi,
I'm receiving the Bootmgr is missing messagem e.I looked up solutions for it and most of them said that the best thing to do is run the startup repair on the recovery disc/windows disc. I tried that but it failed saying it cannot repair it automatically(one of the things listed in details under Problem Signature 7 was MissingBootManager. I tried another solution to this by rebuilding the BCD but it said that there aren't any Windows installations(only the drive with Windows is plugged in) and I tried this solution:
?If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command.

Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
Bootrec /rebuildbcd

But with the second line, it can't find the file to rename

Is there a way to get it booting again without re-installing Windows?

 Hi,
So I'm going to try to be as specific as possible. About a month ago, I finally updated to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio laptop. It seemed to work fine, but I started getting an error every time Windows would start up or if I would "awake" the computer from Sleep mode. The error was "please insert disk into removable disk E:" I never had this error before. Apparently, this drive was my SD card and I've never even used that drive at all. Other than being an annoyance though, this error didn't seem to have any impact so I rolled with it for the time being figuring I could fix it later or just deal with it.
Well, after about two weeks, my computer froze up, so I tried to restart, and it wouldn't startup again. I would turn it on and it would just go to a black screen with a white arrow and stop. Sometimes it would take me to a black screen and say "Operating System Not Found." After several failed startup attempts, Windows seemed to take me to some diagnostic screen and I went through several prompts following whatever advice Windows 10 was giving me to fix the startup error. After several failed attempts, somehow miraculously I got it started again. Quickly, in fear of this happening again, I decided to revert back to Windows 7 hoping this would fix any problems. I let it run over night and the next morning, the computer was back to Windows 7 as normal. I was able to use the laptop as normal and there were no error messages. It seemed everything was fine.

Hello, this is my first time posting here and I'm at a loss for what to do, so I'm going to be ridiculously thorough in my explanation of the problem.

My computer is a Dell XPS 8300. The only hardware change since I bought it is the video card, from a Radeon 5450 to an Nvidia GT520.
My specs are:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel i5 (can't access the specifics)
RAM: 6 GB
HDD Space: 1 TB

For the past couple of days, my computer has been taking longer than usual to run programs. (This may or may not have anything to do with the problem.) When I did a hard reboot, the Windows symbol appeared as normal, but it was there for longer than normal. Then, a blue screen flashed, fast enough for me to not be able to read what was on it, and then the screen went black.

I rebooted it after that, and it gave me the option to use Startup Repair or to start windows normally. Starting windows normally results in the same issue.

When I use startup repair, it spends some time running, then has the error, "Startup repair cannot repair this problem automatically". The problem details are as such:

I tried the dispatch command as you can see in the attachment and you'll see a ten gig drive I created as partition eight. Forgive me I'm new St this but this was the only drive I created so dell shipped it with so many partitions?
Anyways if you can assist I'll appreciate it, I tried the dispatch and no luck inget a error stating can't open bcd file which after giggling means the drive is still locked and cannot be opened
Also the mbr is just bad.

Windows won't start. I get a a black screen saying some hardware or software has changed and the only options are to press enter to continue, or escape to exit.

I tried booting my Win 7 64 bit recovery disc (aka system repair disc) but in the second screen where it tells you to select an operating system, it is blank! I attempted to add hard disk drivers but i couldn't figure out how.

So i pressed next and got to the screen with various options. I selected "Startup Repair" but that won't work.

It says that "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically",

The error details are as follows:

So i can't do any type of recovery to repair my Windows 7. Would finding the appropriate hard disk driver in the beginning of the startup repair process (the second screen) be a solution to be able to select the appropriate OS to fix? if so, how?

Hey guys,

Yesterday I formatted and reinstalled windows Vista on my new Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. I've gone through the whole driver CD, installed everything there, but wireless still doesn't work! It doesn't find any networks. I realize that the drivers CD just has the default 1720 drivers, so some things might be different (for example, the default video card is 8400, but mine has an 8600, and the driver for that isn't on the CD). Perhaps I require a different wireless driver?

If that is the case, how do I know which one I have and where to get the propoer driver for it?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Hello. I have Radeon HD 3850 AGP and Win7, and I tried to do almost everything ...
I installed 9.12 drivers, 9.12 drivers with adding CL_91526 from the topic above), 9.11 drivers, 9.11 drivers with Hotfix (ATI), 9.11 drivers with adding CL_91526, manual driver install by right click . Absolutely no changes and everytime the same ... During and after installing (before reboot) no changes in Device Manager, having "ATI Radeon 3850 " (or "ATI Radeon 3800 series" or something like that...) with yellow triangle and Microsoft Co. driver. And after reboot no changes with it, an error message with something like "Driver didn't install correctly, please install proper driver" ( though in ATI install log you can see that everything was installed succesfully). So after reboot I still see my VGA like "ATI Radeon 3800 series" with Microsoft driver and of course no changes in monitor resolution and all. If I try to delete microsoft driver (and device), and then install radeon drivers , during installation I absolutely just don't have any VGA in Device manager. And after reboot Win7 "finds" VGA and install from internet microsoft driver, so I can see "ATI Radeon HD 3850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.1)" in Device Manager.

I think that radeon drivers don't install (or don't install correctly), and Win7 ignores (or doesn't see) them.

Please help... Maybe I do something wrong ?...

Welcome to seven forums AngieM: Unfortunately you have a pretty old system a socket 478 board I would suggest first off to use 32 git seven and try the method in this thread to try and get your driver to install. Not every systems hardware is up to running windows seven Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO This is the only method I know of that will install the agp driver, Are you sure you are following the directions EXACTLY the way they are written and installing form device manager? If so then it is possible your system may just be to outdated to run win 7 Sorry to tell you but?. Fabe I wanted to add you might want to uninstall the driver then use driver sweeper to make sure all remnants of the previous driver are removerd before trying again http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Hi all - I have Win7 Ultimate 64bit and my ethernet pci card DLink DFE-530TX+ (rev F) doesn't recognize the broadband connection on bootup. I have to disable it in the device manager and then re-enable it. Then the broadband connection works.

I have the latest driver, from the DLink site, which is specifically for Win7: 1.12.0.1 (10/12/2009)

I put in the ethernet card as a workaround, because the onboard ethernet device had exactly the same problem. It is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I got the latest driver from Realtek (7.26.902.2010 - dateed 9/2/2010) but like the DLink, when I first boot up, it does not recogize the broadband internet connection.

I had hoped the PCI card would not experience the same problem -but it does.

Thoughts?

I'm house-sitting for my friend while he is out of town and one day I came home and turned on his computer and It said that Windows had failed to start, this wasn't unusual; it had happened once or twice before. but, when I selected tried to run startup repair (whitch had worked last time) It just took me back to the same "windows has failed to start" screen. I don't want him to know that this happened, cause I'm afraid he'll think I did something to cause this, so I dont want to wipe it or anything like that. The process was sloooow but finally i got a repair menu: fix start problems 2) restore ect.

When I shut it down and tapped F10 to enter the bios menu, i went under the diagnostic tab and ran both the Hard Drive Test and Memory Test. Here are the results:<br>Primary Hard Drive Test- Hard Disk Full (305)<br>Memory Test- Passed<br>But i have no idea what that means because my laptop is brand new and it has 500gb... so the harddrive shouldnt be full. Sorry if I am posting in the wrong forum, I'm not sure if this should be in graphics cards or drivers...or somewhere else entirely.

I have an Intel 845GL Chipset....I can't find a driver to make it work using Vista.

Do I have to buy a new graphic card? Or am I missing something easy, or is there a work around?

A:Work around? Intel doesn't supply a vista driver.

Ok, I am resolved to replacing my video card.

I've never replaced a video card before, but I've upgraded memory, installed a hard drive and a modem before...is replacing a video card more complicated than that?

And, where should I start in determining what is compatible for my system/Vista etc?

The Stylus Pro 7600 is now a really old printer, the last supported driver was for XP but it worked in Windows 7 and I believe to some extent in 8 although I never did try it.

It s a really good reliable large format printer though and very affordable in parts, ink and the second-hand purchase price.

However alas Windows 10 doesn't like it, I did the upgrade to 10 (and then the downgrade) from windows 7 but it will not see the driver it sees the device but calls it a USB high speed device or something like that and compatibility mode didn't seem to help.

So unless there is a clever work around and I'd love that to happen I'm stuck on Windows 7 for the duration.

Suggestions welcome.

Hi there!
I just got my new Asus Vivobook s400ca running Win8.1, a few weeks ago.
It really runs great, although I managed to find one problem. Since this is a laptop without a detachable screen,
I didn't really find any good reason for having the touch keyboard toolbar () in my task bar, since I was pretty sure I'd never need it. So I disabled the keyboard, which worked out fine but the toolbar was still there.

I then went on to try to remove it by using one of EightForum's .reg files for that purpose.

This did, as described, remove the toolbar, but apparantly it stopped the mouse pad driver as well, even though the mouse pad itself basically works. (no gestures or scrolling though.)

As you can see here, There's no driver running.

And in the ASUS hub, it's also impossible to turn it on. It just keeps saying it's off.

So I decided to use another .reg file that I found with the initial one, that should basically just rollback the effect that the other one had, but to no avail.

It just made the toolbar come back.
So I don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Also, if there is anyone who knows what to do about that toolbar, please do tell! [:

Thanks in advance! [:

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

I have a Samsung RF511 that on startup flashes the BSOD for a fraction of a second and the automatically attempts to restart. It then gives me the option of launching Startup Repair, which does nothing at all (I have left it for more than an hour in case patience was all that was needed) or start Windows normally which will start to load and flashes the BSOD before restarting and presenting me with the options above. I do have the factory recovery disc but my DVD drive died a while ago so I can't boot off that. I don't own a external optical drive. What are my options. I have a second laptop that has two HDD slots. Is there a way I can use that to repair Windows on my samsung HDD or can I transfer my factory recovery disc to usb and make it bootable?

Ctr alt delete causes my screen to also go black. I press the down arrow to where i think the task manager is and i press enter. The black screen than disappears and i am back on my wallpaper. I know the task manager popped up but i just can't see it.

A:Windows 7 failing to boot and startup repair doesn't work - MBR infection?

I don't think this is a virus... If this was a virus in the MBR or really anywhere on the computer it would be very different... Simply put: it just has a boot issue... I would suggest you contact the owner of the computer and see if you can transfer off all the files and/or make a list of the programs on the computer so you can transfer those off as well... Then reinstall Windows to factory and just reinstall the files and programs as need be... There's always the option of trying to boot from the hard drive on your computer... If it boots then there may actually be a legitimate virus on the computer but if it doesn't then it's safe to say you've just got a corrupted OS...

Ok, so I've re-installed Windows XP (SP2) and after it booted up, I noticed that my onboard ethernet adapter wasn't recognised. So I went and downloaded the appropriate drivers (SiS900.zip) from the mobo's official site (it's a PCChips M848A mobo) but when I try to install the drivers, it still says that the hardware isn't functional (Code 1).

I've tried many different versions of SiS900 drivers but it simply won't work.

When I tried the setup.exe file that came with the official driver, the install would say "Update Driver for PnP Device Fail. Setup will exit".

That's when I simply forwarded the windows hardware installer to an XP folder i found in the zip file. But still, it doesn't work.

I really need help on this matter. Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Maybe it's worth mentioning that I re-installed WinXP over an existing windows partition without formatting it. I simply deleted the former windows installation files.

well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.

when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.

I know for a fact that I had CCC on this pc, but it almost seems impossible to get up and running, I am very desperate to get this up and running.

I downloaded Win7 x86 drivers for our Ricoh Aficio MP 171 from Ricoh, to load them onto a machine freshly updated from XP to Win 7. Every time i try to install them, Windows tells me the default driver it chose is the best one and won't install it. The driver it is using does squat, the printer was working fine when it was connected to XP, now the most we have gotten out of it is a few pages of jibberish when we tried to print a photo.

I have tried manually installing the driver from the device manager, i tell it to use a folder on the desktop where i copied the driver, but when i press next it immediately says the driver being used is up to date. I tried telling it to read from a dvd i burned the driver folder on to, it doesn't like that either.

I am toying with the idea of deleting the default driver from system32 (but copying it first to a data key), disconnecting from the 'net, and then installing the one from Ricoh.

A:Default printer driver doesn't work, Win7 won't update it. Ricoh mp171

Hi briligg, Have you tried installing the drivers in admin mode Run as Administrator Some times you have to overrule win7 and tell it you know best this time

Got a new tablet pc. Put in a new hard drive and installed vista ultimate x64. Works great. I was suprised how much smoother it runs.

The 11a/b/g/n wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter isn't recognized by vista. My friend said it might be a problem because it doesn't work with 64 bit software. Went through the long process of installing vista 32 bit version. Same thing. It was recognized by vista.

So now here I am with 64 bit vista installed again. I downloaded a couple drivers that it could be from lenovo website. It still didn't work.

Before I started this whole project I went to the microsoft upgrade site to check compatability. While running XP, the site said that I would have to download the wireless lan driver and install it after i installed vista. It also said the fingerprint reader would need to be manually installed but I don't care about that.

Any suggestions?

I am trying to use my CD-ROM drive and it doesn't work here are the list of things I have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled the cd-rom driver it is a Matbleepa UJ-840D CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW in my HP laptop (Didn't work)

Read stuff about code 39 and removed in the registry edit screen Upperfilters, Upperfilters.bak, Lowerfilters, Lowerfilters.bak and rebooted (Didn't work)

Removed itunes from computer (didn't solve the issue with cd-rom player)

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Read a lot of different posts about code 39 and nothing is given after the above steps are taken if it still won't work except to reformat which I would prefer not to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

A:programs not loading right, computer doesn't shut down right, sys recov doesn't work

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.

I have an ASUS notebook running windows 7 64-bit. I am using the QuietOffice power profile, however the screensaver won't kick in no matter what I do, and the display does not turn off even though I set it to be after 5-minutes of inactivity. I don't know if there is something running in the background... I have turned off my usb wireless mouse, and nothing....

THanks.

A:HELP: power option doesn't work - screen saver doesn't start!

This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Have a friend with a relatively new Lenovo laptop using Windows XP SP3. Overnight he can't access the Internet via browsers, email or AIM. His desktop connected to the same router is working fine.

He can access the router by IP address using either IE7 or FireFox 3.5. Anything that needs a DNS server doesn't work. This does say though that he has a working connection to the router.

He's run MalWareBytes and his own McAffee software looking for bad stuff but has found nothing.

Running "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt gives exactly the same results for the laptop as his working desktop. The DNS servers are there. He can ping the DNS servers using their IP addresses. He is being assigned a proper local network address so DHCP is working on the router.

Any thoughts on where to look next to discover why the Internet applications don't seem to be able to find the DNS servers?

A:Can't Access Websites, Email doesn't work and no AIM doesn

FWIW, my friend took his laptop to a PC shop. Their diagnosis was malware. I don't know the identity of the malware. Anyway, the shop saved his data then formatted and reloaded XP SP3.

Hi... xp stopped responding and I decided to power off.

Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.

Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.

The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.

The system that had the problem was running Win XP Home SP1. Unfortunately, I can't find the manufacturer's recovery CD.

HD is still in the other PC. How should I attack the problem?

A:XP doesn't reboot, safemode doesn't work

Update... Three passes of AVG and all threats were put in vault. Tried to re-install the HD to the initial system but no change... System says it didn't start correctly, that a new software of hardware could be responsible, the suggests to try las known good config, none of the options work, they all perform some tasks then windows reboots and ends up in the same screen.

I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.

At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."

It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.

At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?

Thanks for your help.

A:Windows Media Encoder doesn't work at home, does at work

I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

Now, the weird thing is that I can play games without a problem and the sound's still there! Hell, even sounds made by Windows -- I hear 'em! YouTube works too!

I'm concerned there might be something wrong in the registry,... (I use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner/Defrag regularly, I guess something was bound to go wrong,...)

Please, help? :(

Alright,

So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.

This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.

The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.

Thanks for any help.

A:InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >
http://helpnet.installshield.com/robo/projects/installshield10-5compact/CP_IHelpBuildErrors.htm

Have you tried this site > http://consumer.installshield.com/

InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out > http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201

As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.

Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free “Inno Setup” which you may have seen when installing some programs. Here’s their site > http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

Dear All
I'm using Dell Vostro 3350 now. After I upgrade Win 10 Pro, the Laptop Speaker doesn't work and can't give output any sound. But if I put my earphone, all of the sound include song work.
I use PC Doctor and scan the computer hardware but there is nothing found error on hardware and software. I also use windows update to scan all of the drivers, but it can't found any update drivers of this laptop. So what can I do next to fix the problem?
Thank you for member's attention

A:Laptop Speaker Doesn't Work But Using Earphone Work

Hello. Dell does not recommend installing Win10 on the Vostro 3350 model. Dell says, "If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected." To get the best performance from your laptop, revert it back to the previous operating system. You can google to find instructions for undoing Win10.
If you want to continue with Win10, then try to install the IDT Win8 audio driver using compatibility mode.
1. Click the link to go to the driver's page. Download and save the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive. 2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.

Hello, I have an annoyance that I'd like to get some advice on if I can.
I'm running a pretty new install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1...only about a month old. Very few changes have been made to the system--very few programs installed...nothing crazy happening.
While trying to fix one issue, I stumbled upon this issue. Here it is:
A diagnostic startup seems to break the automatic startup activity of the Synaptics touchpad driver. What I mean is that, after performing a diagnostic startup and then returning to a normal startup, the Synaptics touchpad driver, which is checked in the
startup tab of msconfig, will no longer automatically start upon login. I have to manually execute it from explorer.
This is annoying because I don't want to have to reinstall this driver every time I have to uncheck it as a startup item in msconfig.
...any suggestions?

Thanks.

here's my problem, as near as I can tell,

a few months ago the wireless connection on my hp laptop stopped "seeing" my wireless network. Eventually, during a scan with my panda security system a virus was found (for some reason it is no longer in the logs-but is was, I think, trojan or sasser in my outlook folders-and it was deleted). The wireless seemed to work again but then went back to being "invisible" to my wireless detector on the laptop. I went to HP downloads to see if I could just update the "driver" and ended up updating "system bios" which seemed to work also, for a while, then the system goes back to not seeing the wireless. I could sometimes do the right-click "repair" option to get it to connect but that stops working after a while. I think that there is still some residual virus lurking in the system to cause this problem so that is why I am posting here. Thanks for any help you can give

Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox.  Tried to download to replace existing Firefox.  CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up.  Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
-  Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry.  If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.

SO there are a few issues that I need help with.

A:windows 10 problems - start menu doesn't appear, windows key doesn't work, etc

Hello,
Well the first thing you should try is to Run System Restore to before all of these problems started or to when you first installed Windows 10.
Then try to download Firefox from there website
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Third thing is I would recommend to get rid of Avast it is low end and could be allowing virus I recommend ether McAfee or Norton Security.

Those are some things to think about
but it is all up to you when making your final decision

Ok I have a problem, and its really bugging me. One day a friend came over and we tried to install a Geforce 2 GTS into my computer (PII 450 Mhz,96 MB Ram, etc. etc.) Anyway, we installed the card into the AGP slot, but for some reason the monitor wouldnt work when we turned on the computer (kept saying Video Cable Connected?)(I figured out why it was doing that though) Anyway since it wasn't working, we took the card back out, put the computer back together, all good. My friend leaves, and I turn on the computer. At first everything seems ok, but then I notice my sound doesnt work, nor does my graphics card work (my original one) I fixed the graphic problem by just installing the new drivers, but the sound I cant. I thought maybe it had to do with drivers since we deleted my old graphics drivers when we installed the new graphics card, so I downloaded the newest sound card drivers, and its still not working. I went back and opened up my computer. Theres this one wire that we could not remember wether it was connected or not. Ive tried having my computer on with the wire connected and not connected, and it doesnt seem to make any difference. So I would really like to figure out whats the matter with my comp, and hope to god its fixable, cause I really dont want to get a new comp.

Thanks before hand.

A:My Sound doesn't work, and I cant get it to work either.

Hi
I have a hp mini 210, running windows 7.
I went to the hp driver website, but the correct driver wont install.
and other drivers ive tried arent working.
please can someone tell me where to get a thing as simple as a working wifi driver?

thanks

p.s. ive tried hp forums, they are about as usefull as a chocolate kettle.

update. its definately the correct driver, and i managed to install it, but its still isnt working.
it keeps saying no connections are available.
yet if i boot into my xp partition, it connects to wifi with no problem.

Its not working right.
maybesome other driver is clashing with it?
i noticed it got mistaked for bluetooth or something, and was turjing on bluetooth when it was supposed to turn on wifi.

i really dont know.
please help someone..

its little niggles like this that bring a man to ddespair, simply becasue he haas no idea wat the problem is to even begin to fix it

Dam* niggles will get you every time o.0

You will want to use the 'official' driver. There are all kinds of mini-210 hp PCs: HP Support & Drivers | United States - find yours, make sure if your computer is 64 bit, you get the 64bit driver; and if it is 32bit, get the 32bit (or x86) driver.

After you download it, go into control panel and remove any wireless adapter driver software you might have, and then install the software you just downloaded. All you should have to do is find your network and connect to it, entering in a single password.

If this doesn't work, let me know

Recently, MSE on my Win7 Pro 64 bit ASUS desktop dropped out of the startup list, I don't know why.  There doesn't seem to be an option in the latest version to say "run at start".  I added it to the startup menu manually and now the user interface comes up.  i checked the startup menu on my Win7 Pro 64 bit Lenovo laptop and it's in there but with options:

The desktop:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe

The laptop:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe -hide -runkey

What's the best way to update the startup entry on my desktop to add the run options so it'll just run silently?  I've seen one or two posts that suggest I should reinstall, is there a less disruptive way to do this?  Before you ask, no, there is no other antivirus program running that I'm aware of, I always use official removal tools.  The only other security program running is MalwareBytes Pro.

A:MSE doesn't come up at startup

I have just read through you previous post HERE    .....personally I would uninstall MSE and reinstall.

If you have a mind to try another AV which definitely does not conflict with MBAM then i would recommend Bitdefender Free

I have been using it for some time now and it is seriously unobtrusive. I also use MBAM paid.

Hello,

When Im trying to do a win xp install on a old computer and i get to the agreement page where i have to press f8 to accept the EULA , it wont work. I keep pressing f8 and it wont work no matter what i do. However the keyboard works when i press ESC to restart the computer and get out of the installation.

Not sure what to do. The keyboard is a wireless USB keyboard.

A:F8 key doesn't work??

Does the keyboard have a Function button? If so you may have to press & hold it while pressing F8.

Or use a different keyboard, preferably a simple wired one.

ok i've been having problems lately on my computer ... i've always been careful about adware and spyware and i have both microsoft's antispyware and lavasoft adaware... but i have not always been careful with viruses and i think i have a virus..

my problem is that my shortcuts, or .lnk files, wont work... neither will my .exe files unless i go there directly with the "open with..." option which is very tedious to use...

i have also noticed that microsoft's antispyware has been taking over 90% of my system resouces but that may be because microsoft scheduled it to stop working on the 1st of june.... i'm not sure if that is a cause though....

does anyone know a way to fix this?

A:All of my .lnk and .exe doesn't work

If you think you have a virus Scan your pc with 2 of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

Also you may want to post a log in the HJT log help forum, they may be able to see if you have other issues. Come back here if it is not spyware/virus related.

Download and install: HiJackThis.

(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders or Desktop. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Then doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do A System Scan And Save Log". Make sure all Windows and Browsers are closed.
When the scan is finished, best to save your text file in the same folder as where you put HiJackthis.

Create a New Topic and include a fresh HJT log in HiJackThisLog Help Forum and Copy/Paste the info from your saved Hijackthis log file into your new topic.

A Moderator/ Security Team Analyst will give you instructions.

***DO NOT TRY TO FIX ANYTHING, MAJOR DAMAGE CAN BE DONE TO YOUR SYSTEM IF THIS TOOL IS USED INCORRECTLY, PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ANALYST/MODERATOR TO GIVE YOU INSTRUCTIONS***

Always describe your problem and any programs you have used to try to resolve your issue. Your description can go a long way to solving/repairing your particular issue.

I recently discovered that my cd-rom drive doesn't work; it wont read any kind of cd or dvd. In My Computer the cd-rom drive (E: ) icon is missing, and in Device Manager there isnt any cd or dvd drive related items. In the BIOS-setup there doesn't seem to be anything about the cd-rom drive either, so it seems to be gone everywhere.
Searching around Google I found a lot of different solutions, but none of them worked; I tried deleting the upper/lower filters, I tried system restore and I tried searching for cd-rom drivers at my computer support site but there wasn't any available.
I don't use my cd-rom drive often, so its hard to say when it happened and what caused this problem, but it happened a little while after i updated my BIOS to version f.32, maybe that could have affected it somhow?
I'm not great with computers, so please take me through any possible solutions very thorougly.
Btw i have a Compaq Presario v6500 notebook, ask if you need any addtitional information, and sorry if my english is bad.

-thanks
