Acer Notebook Not Accepting Memory...?

Q: Acer Notebook Not Accepting Memory...?

I have the Acer 5570z and it came stock with 1GB of memory, and I did my research and the User Guide says it can take up to 4GB using two soDIMM modules (dual channel support) so I bought a 4GB pack (2 2GB sticks) of memory by corsair with matching specs and speed of memory that came stock with the PC (DDR2 PC2-5300). But when I installed both memory sticks, my PC turned on just fine, but did not load anything, the screen just stayed black. But when I removed one of the sticks of memory, the PC started up and booted the OS. I've tried everything I could to get 4GB out of this PC, but I'm thinking this PC can't handle 4GB of memory, but then why would the User Guide say it can?

Hello everybody. This seems like an excellent board, and I thank you for all your help.

I have an Acer Aspire 1681LCi with 512MB PC2700 (2x256) 200pin Sodimms. The CPU is the Centrino Pentium M 1.5Ghz supposedly with 400MHz FSB (4x100). I would like to add more RAM to it, but have three questions:

1. Should I just add more DDR333 or replace it all with DDR400?
2. Should there be a performance benefit to this?
3. Why would Acer install DDR333 into a 400MHz FSB?

Any suggestions would be helpful on this matter.
Thanks!

A:Please help me choose memory for my Acer notebook

no performance benefits at all since you can't overclock a notebook. Just get the speed you are supposed to get (DDR2700 probably since you're using that already) or whatever is closest...

I have been unable to get Windows to accept a memory upgrade. I want to increase my memory from 4Gig to 8Gig (ie 2 sticks of 2Gig, to 4 sticks of 2 Gig). Windows hangs with all 4 sticks installed, but boots normally with only 3 sticks installed ?

It seems that the BIOS is happy to accept 4 sticks x 2Gig ... but Windows hangs: With all 4 sticks installed The BIOS will boot and the Windows boot screen appears (the four star animation) ... and then the system hangs !

By a process of elimination, I have been able to deduce that none of the individual sticks, or the individual slots are faulty: I can use any combination of 3 sticks in any combination of the four available slots, and it will boot OK and show 12 Gig of memory available.

I have checked that all 4 memory sticks are identical (Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3), and I have downloaded and installed the latest BIOS ... but the problem persists.

I note that the 2 original memory sticks are labelled V.2.12 and the second pair are labelled V.3.19, but I also note that they are happy running together as long as I only use 3 sticks (any 3 sticks !). The problem only arises when I try to use all 4 !!

Can anyone help

I have an ABIT VL6 motherboard. The manufacturer website shows this motherboard as being able to handle 1.5GB pc 133 RAM (3 slots). I currently have a 128MB pc100 RAM chip. I purchased (2) 256MB pc133 RAM chips. The motherboard won't recognize either/both. when I have only the pc133 speed RAM chips in and boot the system, the computer gives me repeated beeps and won't boot up. It does the same thing when I have either/both combined with the pc100 RAM chip.

What do I need to do so the computer accepts either pc133 RAM or both pc100 and pc133.

Hello, my new Acer Aspire Notebook has my IE homepage stuck to global.acer.com and I can't change it through any of the IE options (Use Blank, Use Current, or typing it in manually - I'm trying to set it to Google).

I went to this page to solve the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159 (Home page setting changes unexpectedly, or you cannot change your home page setting).

As per Microsoft's instructions, I tried changing the "Start Page" value in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main," but I got the following error: "Cannot edit Start Page: Error writing the value's new contents." There was no "Default_Page_URL" entry in there.

I was able to change the "Default_Page_URL" value to "Google.com" under "HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" and the "Start Page" value in there was already set to "http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home"

The "Default_Page_URL" and "Start Page" entries don't exist in the "HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" key.

Lastly, the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel" subkey doesn't exist either.

I would appreciate any help you could give me, thanks!

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 that get's really hot after using it for a while - 30 -45 minutes I'd say. You can feel the heat by touching the bottom left below the keyboard - or touching the bottom of the laptop which can be scolding hot.

Is there anyway to get this to cool down? I feel like this isn't normal.

Hi Everyone,

Above are the specs for my Acer Aspire 5043 notebook, purchased some 6-7 mths ago.

In the time I used it, my only complaint is that it does get really hot despite being elevated for better cooling. I am wondering what you guys think of those platforms that come with additional fans to elevated my pc and if I should get it. Currently, I'm using those half-balls that you stick to the 2 ends of the notebook. Anyway, back to the main problem....

All was well till last Sunday when on switching on, it began to make a loud whirring/rattling noise. Figuring it is most likely the fan, I unscrewed it and vacummed it but the noise remained.

Last night, it shut down on me and when I restarted it, a really long diskchk was triggered thereafter it went into a loop cycle, never being able to startup Windows. All this time the noise remained.

Tomorow, I am taking it to the dealers for repairs as it is still under warranty, but I'd like your take on what could possible be wrong with the pc.

Would really appreciate any education on why this is happening. TIA

When I turn it on, the screen may stay black, it may go through the 'check program', it may start displaying a screen saver, or...
like it usually does...
the computer will go to the login screen, but the touchpad or keyboard will be completely unresponsive. I can't move the mouse, I can't type my password in, I can't do ANYTHING....

SO... What's going on with it?? Is there something I can do?? This is my only computer, so please help...

Hi guys,

Acer Aspire 3410, initial problem with black screen of death (completely blank). Reflashed/updated BIOS to 1.28, which corrected error but revealed non-functional backlight (very dim image).

I dismantled the monitor to check all connections (fine) then connected a voltmeter across the earth and +ve on the inverter board to check if it was delivering power. Computer immediately shutdown () and now won't start.

I've tried resetting the CMOS by removing the battery + ac power, holding the "on" button for 30s then refitting battery + ac power with no success. I've also removed the circular battery located next to the RAM accessible via the RAM access panel on the underside. Still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Acer Series 230/280 notebook with XP won't boot. Instead I see a white screen that flickers intermittently to black for the first minute or so, then just reverts to the blank white screen. The HD light is on at first, then goes out, and nothing happens. Then it lights again for a while etc.

I put the system CD in and booted. Essentially the same thing happens, tho I can hear the drive working. Ditto when I try disk 1 of the Recovery CD.

I tried following instructions to hit the F2 key, but nothing happens.

I'm using external power, not the battery.

Hi Forum-ers.
I'm having problems getting my Notebook to boot from the 7 image. I want to load 7 over Vista, which runs like a dog with one leg. I used this DVD to load 32bit 7 on my desktop, so I know it is OK, but the Acer won't "see" the boot disk at start-up.
I have set the bios to CD/DVD drive, 1st boot position and "Unlocked" the Acer eLock Management tool for the DVD drive in Vista, but Vista loads as if no DVD is in the drive.
I spoke to the shop where I purchased the Acer, but they said use f10 on start-up, but it just sends me to Edit Boot Options for Vista.
Does anyone have a solution, please?

I have a acer aspire one notebook and it keeps restarting at start up. I turned it off one day and when i turned it one it would take me to a screen that had options for safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.. and when i choose all of them it starts to boot then a blue screen flashes and it restarts & this cycle never ends. i managed to get the stop number from a post on here that i read that said press f8 when i click last know good configuration.
STOP #0x000000ED(0x86B325A8, 0xC000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Acer Aspire One Notebook Keeps Restarting

The STOP message is UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME This could mean that your boot file is corrupted or it could mean your HDD has died.
Boot off of the XP CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors. If this fails, chances are great that the Hard Drive has died and needs to be replaced.

Good day all,
I just bought an acer extensa 5220 notebook (XP Pro). I have not used it yet for work. It had Norton Internet security (trial version) installed. I prefer to use McAfee AV. I installed McAfee and restarted my notebook. However, i did not uninstall Norton. When notebook started up again it restarted after startup, it kept doing this over again, first showing blue screen before restarting (but too fast so i couldn't read the error message). So, i booted into safe mode and restored back to the time before McAfee was installed. It is stable for now.
My questions are:
Do you think my problem was because of not uninstalling Norton first?
Was i correct in using system restore (what are the repercussions if not)?
Does my notebook model support McAfee AV or was i wrong to try to install it and should stick with Norton?

I am grateful for any help. Thank you

Acer Aspire 5516
This is a report on upgrading from Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 Home Premium.
I didn't do a Clean Install as I was worried about drivers, etc.. It turns out that everything went smoothly except for the graphics card driver. (Radeon 1200)
What I found out was that the default video driver was unacceptable, but I figured out what was needed. I couldn't find a good driver for it on the ATI web site. The Catalyst Control Center which is ~69MB did not work. Eventually I went to the Acer web site (us.acer.com) and found a Catalyst download that is 109MB. This is the one that works.

Everything now works properly.

Except I defragged with Defraggler and it couldn't get rid of all the fragmented file and there is a separate section that Defraggler doesn't even touch that Windows Defrag calls PQ*something. That is for a new post though.

A:Acer Aspire 5516 Notebook

The Win7 installer is amazingly driver-complete, with some exceptions.

Check first for newer drivers from optional Windows Updates.

Next check the Acer website, then the actual device maker.

When you turn it on, all you can see is a white background with lines sporatically flashing like it is trying to display something but no images are showing. If I apply a little pressure to close the display but not so much to actually move it at the hinges, the display works perfectly. Is there an easy fix for this besides pushing it against something on the desk to apply a little pressure?

Not really, to fix it you will most likely have to re-seat the ribbon that connected it to the motherboard and that will mean dismantling.

Greetings from a newb...This may have been covered ad nauseum, but doing a search didn't help. Bought an Aspire One 10.1" Notebook about a year ago. 6 mos after purchase, wife spilled water all over keyboard and computer would not boot. Sent back to Acer and I expected a large repair bill, but no charge. They replaced HD and never mentioned computer showed evidence of getting "wet".

All is fine except "Del" key does not work now and I really believe it is not a hardware issue with the keyboard as I have read of many issues just like this. I believe it is a mapping issue. Running XP Pro and hope someone has a plain English fix for this.

Also, trying to run a windows update on this laptop, it first asks if I want my version of Windows validated and when I select "yes", the computer just hangs- no message that my version is illegal (better not be as I bought it from FRY) or that my OS is LEGAL. I assume when the HD got swapped this is the root of both problems as the delete key worked before and none of the keys are sticky, intermittant, or feel faulty. Would a remapping program help the delete issue? Tried deleting the KB and letting XP see and reinstall to no avail. Would re-entering the key from the MS sticker on the back take care of things? Where would I go to enter or do I need to call MS?

Help with either issue would really be appreciated. I use IE 8 and see lots of help for people who use umbuntu, but no simple steps for an IT am... Read more

I'm getting some random BSOD's lately or my laptop freezes so I have to do a 'hard' reboot. I'm unable to pinpoint what change in my system started to cause the problem but maybe it is after I installed a SSD. But this may well be co?ncidence.

I am able to log on and use the laptop but sometimes after a while the laptop freezes or reboots with error code 0x0000000a. The faulty driver differs: ntkrnlpa.exe, ndis.sys and NETIO.sys.

I have ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic for 20-30 minutes and it foutnd no errors in RAM.
I hope you guys can tell me what causes the crashes. Hopefully it is an software issue and easy to fix.

Thanks up front!

so far I have uncovered the fact that no one wants to help a wimpy notebook user like myself.
I was wondering if anyone had an ACTUAL download of the espon Workforce 310 (all in one) driver? or another door to a solution to ny problem?
I bought an epson yes
I have the CD yes
I do not have a CD Drive
No I do not intend to Buy a CD Drive, forget it
I do not own a computer
yes I DO NEED the epson. I am an artist, not a tech professional
if anyone could help I'd really epreciate it

if anyone replies "plug the printer into the USB drive, then instert the CD into the CD Drive, then it should work properly" I will never doubt our global stupidity again.

thank you

I confess I'm Mac user and helpless when it comes to assisting my son overcome his nonchalance with technical matters. He bought a very small Acer Aspire notebook with a dinky 8.9" screen. It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but he loves it. I was staggered when I learned that there is no software with it ? no OS disks. I believe it came loaded with the XP and it's his responsibility to make his own disks using an external drive to clone his system. Frankly I don't understand any of this, but I would be enormously grateful for advice on how he should proceed to fulfill his responsibility. Thank you up front.

A:Cloning Acer Aspire 8.9" notebook

It probably has a restore partition on it. When you boot up it should say something about hit this F key to restore or something, usually the F11 key. You can also make your own Restore CD's using the computer manufactures included utility.

I got an Acer Aspire 3100 which came with Vista installed. Vista was too heavy for it and it was so slow that it was making my work hard. I decided to install XP using a SP2 cd. I expected to be given an option to select which OS I want to run when it boots after installing XP on a seperate partition, but it didn't. The boot records of XP don't show any sign of Vista. And there are no drivers for XP which makes my life miserable. I can't do anything now. Whenever I boot XP runs. I also tried removing XP but no use. PLease help!

Will it help if I format the D drive on which XP is installed? Will Vista take over again? Is there any other way?

I would love to get rid of Vista altogether and have XP only on my machine, but if that's not possible I just want to be able to run Vista atleast. I can deal with a slow computer but not one which doesnt even work properly.

How long does the battery last before having to recharge? (Just say for general purpose)
I just bought one and i forgot to ask. I couldn't find it anywhere in the User manual.

A:Battery For A Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook

i found that the user manual is on the notebook, they must be cheap as they don't seem to print them out these days. Anyway i found that it takes about 3.5 hours to charge if that is right or not and lasts about 3 hours before recharging if that's right.

Hello jrdngreenberg3 and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to the Acer download link below, the latest BIOS version for your machine is 1.07. You can double check that by selecting notebook > Aspire > 5733z and then clicking the BIOS tab.

There seems to be quite a few theads on this forum concerning wake-on-lan problems. Perhaps one of those other theads will offer you a solution. Also, have you checked your power plan settings?

Hi Guys,

I have a Notebook with the Operating System - Vista. The Machine is an Intel Celeron 1.6 Mhz and runs with 1.0 Gb Ram. We have used this Operating System for some and now need to install the Windows XP Operating system, since it is User Friendly. Infact, we have downloaded the Drivers too. However, when we tried to install the WinXP Operating System, there was an error at the Time of Loading the System of restarting Computer as follows.

'Windows setup could not detect any Hard drives installed in your System'. etc

Infact, the Hard drives are all installed and working very well with the VIsta Operating System. Could anyone let me know how to configure it, so that I could install the WinXP Operating System onto this Machine.

Your Help would be much Appreciated. THanks

So, I have an Acer Aspire 5750(Not a z or g, just 5750) and it runs Windows 7.
About this time last year my webcam stopped working suddenly. Nothing to my knowledge happened to make it stop, I just came home one day and it wouldn't work.
I'm having a hard time finding a driver to install for it, since the Acer website doesn't seem to have one, I uninstalled it and restarted my computer for it to reinstall and that didn't fix the problem. I also used eRecovery and that didn't seem to work either.
Another odd problem is that even the USB webcam's will not work with it, so I'm not entirely sure that the driver is the problem. I've done my fair share of research on this problem and cannot come up with a solution.

maybe the internal WebCam is not working correctly, but the computer thinks that it is so is not allowing any other type of WebCam to work hard to go into device manager and make sure that the internal WebCam is on installed, if not uninstall it restart the computer and see if it works, and get back to me.

I have a an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi notebook that the screen just went completely white on and then upon restarting it nothing was displayed, but the computer at least seems to turn on. I've tried plugging it into an LCD monitor but there still isn't anything displayed. I should note the laptop isn't mine. This is how I received it and what I was told. Is it possible for the on-board video to go bad? Or any ideas of things I could try to pin-point the problem?

Thanks

A:Acer Aspire 5100 Series Notebook --No Display

If you have tried an external monitor (which you said you have) and nothing displayed on boot whilst plugged into the external monitor, I would say that the built-in video is bad. I would advise your friend/client/relative to purchase a new laptop or see if you can find a cheap, used mobo on Ebay to replace it because the video cannot easily be replaced (soldered onto motherboard).

Hi, I have an acer aspire 7720. On start up I get a white screen, it dissapears if I bump it a few times so it seems to me something is loose. I have opened it up, taken out the keyboard, taken off the LCD and then replaced making sure everything was well pressed down. The fault is still there but not as bad.
Any suggestions?

A:White screen on Acer Aspire 7720 notebook

Welcome to TSG!!

How far did you disassemble the LCD? There is a cable that plugs into the back of the screen itself that is normally held in place by some tape. Try to reseat the end that plugs into the Main Board first. It's easier to access. If that doesn't help, and you are feeling adventurous, you can try to reseat the plug on the rear of the LCD panel.

It's possible that it is the panel itself that has the loose connection. That's not a home repair ...

Good luck!

hi
i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to dealing with computer maintenance and i'm so afraid of messing up my system....by taking chances....so it comes like a breath of fresh air to know that there is a forum like this for windows7. i don't know why it took me so long to trace you guys.

btw. on behalf of all the novices out there just allow me to say a quick thank you thank you for the help you're giving us. i've learnt so much within the couple of weeks that i've been here. great job guys and thanks again.

i have an "Acer 4741 Aspire Notebook with intel core i3," operating on Windows7 64bit Home Premium. recently i've noticed some slight changes occuring on my system:

1) when i have my finger pressed on the mouse perharps a bit too long (i don't even know what too long is) the screen flickers (shakes up and down). i'm just not sure if this is normal.

2) my dvd device suddenly does not seem to be able to read media on my pre recorded dvds that use to play perfectly well without any problem. what happens now is, when i slot in a pre recorded dvd, a dialog box pops up asking how i want to burn my media even though there is media already on it. i ran a couple of test and ended up with a report that says my device has a "bad block"....whatever that means.

i'm now thinking maybe i should update my drivers and my bios but the problem is how to correctly indentify this drives.

Sandpe, Welcome to the windows 7 forums, I agree that there are a lot of great helpers here.

You might want to go to Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 4741G where they
can tell you the latest drivers for your system.

Of course you might want to make sure that your Anti-Virus is up to date.

A:Acer Notebook keeps freezing! Dead stop abruptly

Is it locking up when using Firefox? Try running Firefox with add ons disabled. Go to the Firefox tab > Help > click on "Restart with Add-Ons Disabled"

If this fixes the problem, then go to the Firefox tab > Add-Ons > then enable one at a time until Firefox locks up, remove or disable offending Add-On.

You may want to check that your Plug-Ins are updated also, with the Add-Ons Manager window open, click on the Plug-Ins. At the top there will be a link "Check to see if your Plug-ins are up to date", click the link and update any that require a update or fix.

I was trying to fix a problem, and then I removed some programs, and I think i accidentally removed a file that is needed for the dolby. Now I can?t open it, and when I try it says that I could re-install it. But how?

A:Dolby advanced audio disappeared from my acer v5 notebook

If you have an available System Restore point that is BEFORE whatever you did, that should get it back (the "problem" will also be back after the system restore).

If you don't have a system restore point (and you should), check the PC vendor's downloads, in this case Acer, and get what you need.

A friend of mine has just bought an Acer Aspire One notebook I don't know anything about them but he says it runs on Vodafone 3g,he has only just started to use it and has asked me if he would need anti virus for it,he says he gets a prompt every time it switches it on asking if he would like to start a 30 day trial of Vodafone virus protection, could anyone tell me if this would be advisable as obviously he would have to purchase after the trial if he still wanted to use it and it might be a pain to remove, the operating system is WINDOWS 7 ,if somebody with some knowledge could advise what Anti virus he should use it would be appreciated,if for example Microsoft security essentials is recommended, what would he need to do to download this, does he need a code to get Microsoft to allow him to have the Microsoft security essentials for free,or when he downloads from the Microsoft site will it be automatic as its a genuine Microsoft O.S that he is using, sorry if this is a bit rambling but I'm a relative newbie and my mates only had his notebook for a few days

I recently bought a an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop on Newegg. It came with Vista Home. I had planned on installing Xp Pro on it from the get go. I formatted and installed Xp. I managed to find all the right drivers except for the sound card driver. I got on acer's website and the only one they had that was even close was the RealTek Audio Driver v5.10.0.5273 which is for the Aspire 5050. I installed that and it worked, but the sound level is very low. All the levels are maxed out in all the properties and everywhere else i could find. I think it is a driver issue, but i am not sure. Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Trouble with sound on Acer Aspire 3050 notebook

i checked the Acer site - that appears to be right driver you've downloaded....what output device are you using for sound playback?

Hello, I bought Acer One 14 Z1402 notebook few days before. Windows update was made once. The touch was working fine for 2 days after update and then stopped working. I tried to update the Finger sensing pad driver software (sentelic v9.4.9.9 R4 --> current one), after that the system was restarted. Still the issue continues. Now there is error like "PC is running into problem, it will automatically restart in few moments"  then blue screen appears.

Elangovan,

Try performing a refresh if you can, should that fail, a reset to start over. If you are having issues getting into Windows itself to perform the refresh/reset, here is an article that might help.

Windows 10 on my notebook will not connect to the above printer and ask for a WPS code.Tried a WPA code available on the printer but rejected. Anyone knows about WPS code and where I can find it?

A:print from Acer notebook by HP ENVY 5642 ask for pincode

Hi The WPS is effectively a WIFI Protected Setup, mine is in my modem/router, and is a PIN number that allows external devices to connect to your wireless network. It may be printed on the router itself, or needs to be generayed internally from a menu option. If in doubt please ask.

Hi Team
Ive an older notebook that i still use when needed, but recently it has become  increasingly slower and slower and very temperamental. By this it can take a load of time to load up a page, or any simple task can just hang, to the point i will go start making a coffee! It just seems to some days really struggle to do anything.Whilst not the fastest notebook it has saved my bacon on a few ocassions, i would like to keep it as a spare but dont know why its all of a sudden having issues.

The notebook is a Operating System is a Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2 running an Intel Celeron M @ 1.86GHz Conroe-L 65nm Technology, its RAM consists of  1.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 266MHz (4-4-4-12), the Motherboard is a Acer Volvi2 (U2E1) and the Hard Drives is a 75GB Hitachi HTS542580K9SA00 (SATA).
The hard drive has been partitioned by the previous owner i assume, as i certainly didn’t do it. It looks like the following
Partition 1
Partition ID         Disk #0, Partition #1
                Disk Letter          C:

A:Acer notebook performance dramaticly reduced recently

Hi

Yes, low free space on the C drive is a problem here. Experts recommends at lease 15% free space in the OS partition for proper system operation. Other than the free space issue, there might be additional problems in your system such as malwares, failing or old aging hard dive etc. Please try the below steps.

Transfer all the data that can be moved from C to D partition. Free up maximum space as you can.

Download and run TFC to clean all kind of temp files.

      http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tfc/

 Uninstall unused applications.

Open Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall all the software which you never used. They only help to eat hard drive space and slowing down Windows by adding unnecessary services.

To detect and uninstall bloatwares pre-loaded by laptop manufacturer, you can use the free program PC Decrapifier.

     http://pcdecrapifier.com/

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as the antivirus solution.

Most of the third party AV programs are huge resource hogs and known to slow down  systems. Microsoft's own AV program MSE requires very low system resources and works very well with Windows. I highly recommends uninstalling your current antivirus completely and use MSE instead.

i I have an Acer TravelMate 2303LC notebook which has always been reliable and adequate for my needs. However when I was in the middle of doing some very important work in January it wouldn't power up when I pressed the power on/off button, despite it always being plugged in at the wall. I checked everything - the battery was charged before I last turned it off and it was always connected to the A/C adaptor which was lit up so was working ok. The only thing that made it switch on was by releasing the battery underneath, disconnecting it then reconnecting it - when I did this is started up no problem.

This only happened the once in January and once again 3 days ago. Is this a problem experienced by other users and what is the cause of the problem? Is there any action that needs taking?

A:Acer TravelMate 2303LC notebook - suspected battery problem

Could be a problem with the DC board on the laptop, I've replaced a fair few in my time, but that's probably not a lot of use to you, since unless you can get hold of the parts and are happy about taking the thing apart, there's not a lot you can do about it. If it keeps doing it, then if you know anyone with a similar laptop with the same or identical power output and connector, then try to convince them to let you swap it for a bit.

Otherwise, it's a trip to the dealer / repair centre.

Got a user who has a Acer 5100-3583 notebook, the keyboard and touchpad are unresponsive after multiple reboots and standard trouble shooting yield no results.? The unit is only 14 months old and out of warranty.
Any clues?

It will read from DVD-ROM drive as it reads a DVD movie when inserted.
No USB devices such as keyboard and mouse work either.

Thanks
Greg

A:Acer 5100-3583 notebook keyboard & touchpad frozen..?

- in windows, press Fn+F7 (or the combination you have to activate/deactivate touchpad
- In the bios (press F2 when it appears the ACER screen when booting), be sure that the Tpad is enabled.
Purchase a usb mouse and keyboard and by pass the problem.
Restore to an earlier date to make sure the configuration wasn't dumped somewhere along the line.
Reformat the system.
Check with Acer Site under troubleshooting to see if there are any other solutions.
Last resort and if your capable open casing to check for loose connections. ( It does appear Acer has problems with touchpads frequently)
Luck to you and this is about all the thoughts I came up with right now. Let us know...Jazz

I have an Acer Aspire 5670 Notebook that I recently tried reinstalling the operating system on. I backed everything up and started to format the computer and install Windows XP Media Center edition. Everything was working fine, but when I was installing drivers, the computer started acting erratically and then I received a Fatal Error and blue screen of death out of nowhere.

So I tried formatting and installing windows again, but each time it finishes installing windows, it just shuts off, no message or anything. Each time I go to try to turn it on, it just shuts off at the Windows splash screen. Usually nothing shows up, it just restarts, but occasionally I get the blue screen of death.

I also tried installing Ubuntu, but I cant even get it to install, I just get to the starting splash screen and it restarts.

Ive tried installing windows xp pro which was on the laptop earlier, but that also came out with the same result.

Is the laptop messed up for good? Is it a BIOS problem? Do I need to replace a part? I just have no idea what to do with it.

I've downloaded the latest version of Skype and wish to use my built-in webcam. I'm being told when I attempt to use Skype that there is a problem with my video device. I thought I'd downloaded and installed the correct drivers after I recently reformatted my system's HDD, but still the message appears.

Going to the ACER website for driver support is inconclusive because there are several versions of different manufacturers' webcam drivers -- for both a Suyin model and a Chicony model. Results differ in two of the different utilities that I've run for detection of the correct manufacturer...one utility identified Chicony, one did not

Can someone please help me solve this mystery so I can finally get to camming again on Skype?

Thank you.

was watching a video when my computer shut off. Now My acer notebook will not load windows xp. when trying to start in safe mode, last config, it just reboots. It flashes a blue screen but its to quick to read anything. I dont have a hard drive on this computer. Any suggestions.

A:acer notebook wont load windows xp or startup in safemode

you could use a ubuntu cd to try and access the drive, see following Link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD. You could then see if there are any error messages related to hardware in event viewer, and also save any important data. When you download the distro it is a .iso which has to be burned to a disk, not just copied.
In the days previous to the shut down had you received any error messages at all? Once you have your data saved you could consider downloading the hard drive diagnostics program from the HD manufacturer.

Hello
i have an acer 5515 laptop. Recently it developed an issue. The computer shuts down within seconds of startup. Safe mode does not help. Could someone please help me with this issue, i can answer any questions needed as far as model, os etc.

thank you for your help.

A:acer 5515 notebook shuts down within 3 seconds of startup win vista

What happened prior to the problem? There are many possibilities as to why it would exhibit those behavior. The first thing to check if the CMOS battery is dead or needs replacement. You would have to open up the laptop and read that manual and remove certain parts such as RAM, HD, network card or reseat the CPU and check if there are burn mark on the mobo itself.

Greetings to All:

I have a 5-year old notebook (Dell). It is still behaving well, but because it only has 64MB of RAM, there are some new applications that it will not run. Also, it takes forever to download some large files.

My questions are:

1) Is it even possible to add memory to a notebook PC?

2) If it is possible, would I see significant improvement, re running larger applications and/or faster downloads?

3) (Assuming that the answers to 1 & 2 are "yes"), How much memory should I add? 256? 512?

Thanking you very much in advance.

I have just bought 4GB memory to add to my Hewlett Packard HP15 TS Notebook but I can't find a video showing exactly how to do it. The ones I've seen so far look as if you have practically take the laptop to bits to install, but they are not my model. Where can I find a video which will clearly show it? Is it just the back removal that's needed for my model. Thank you.

A:add memory to HP 15 TS Notebook

The bad news is the memory modules are next to the CPU so you are going to have to take the keyboard off to renew memory.

Bought new notebook a month ago. Went to update windows 10 with ANNIVERSARY UPDATE and told by computer there is not enough memory to do it. There is nothing stored on computer to delete to gain memory!  What can I do to get more memory? Thank You

A:new notebook does not have enough memory

Hi, The following link shows specs of your computer:     http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04941651 Probably you are talking about storage (ie HDD), not memory (ie RAM). It is a very basic computer, buy then forget, not upgradable in many ways. My suggestion: use the SD card to download files to it, then install from (not to) there. Regards.
