Q: upgrading the psu in my pavilion

i have an hp pavilion a1700n with this mother board......http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...31&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3339286&lang=en

i was just wondering what type of power supply would be compatible....it came with a 300W i was looking to get like a 450W or more ....but i need at least 350W to run the video card i just bought.....any specifications on power supplies that will be compatible would be great then i could shop around for a good deal on one

A: upgrading the psu in my pavilion

Any standard ATX one will do with a 24pin motherboard connection and a 4 pin CPU connection. Both those should come as standard.

Just picked up a Hp Pavilion. Got it with just the basics. It's a 2.93 Ghz Pentium 4, 16 kilobyte primary memory cache, 1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache. Has 1, 256 mb of ram. For a 2.93 ghz..........this thing is a sled as far as muti tasking!! I know I need to add more ram.....what do I get as far as what kind, etc? It's in a DIMM slot. I want to get a separate video card too instead of an on board one. A link to newegg would be nice and any suggestions would be appreciated as well. Thanks, B-72

Hi all,

I wanted to get some suggestions on upgrading ram in a HP Pavilion dv6. Possibly going to SSD harddrive also.

The system currently runs on Intel I5 on 6gb of ram. Can this be doubled? Limitations?

(Right now is shows I'm using 85% of its memory, and less than 20% of the CPU.)

Hi
i got a pavilion w5220la with a p4 516 processor (2,93ghz)
i want to upgrade the processor, so i found this on hp site:

this is the motherboard:
Motherboard specifications table
Motherboard description Motherboard manufacturer's name: MSI MS-7174
HP/Compaq name: Graphite-GL8E

CPU/Processor Socket: 775
Supports the following processors
Pentium 4 600 series
Pentium 4 with HT
Celeron D

Front-side bus (FSB) 800 MHz (Pentiums)
533 MHz (Celeron D)

Chipset Northbridge: i915GV
Southbridge: ICH6

Searching on intel site, i found some p4 processors but i dont know wich one the best of them ,

-Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Extreme Edition Supporting Hyper-Threading Technology
(Processor, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.4GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 2MB L3 Cache, 800 MHz Front Side Bus) this is the best for my mobo i think beacause is the only one with 800 mhz fsb , there are better processors but with 1066 mhz fsb, i think they woulndt fit right?

-Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Supporting Hyper-Threading Technology ?
(p4 670 or 672 running at 3,8 ghz, 2mb L2 cache and 800 mhz fsb this is the faster here.)

First i want to know if my mobo will support the p4 extreme edition 3,4 ghz, second if the p4 extreme edition is way better than the p4 672 3,8ghz.

Thanks for the help

Is probably your best choice, but if I was you I would actualy build a new computer instead of upgrading a old one, Saves you from upgrading all the parts ( which could add up to alot of money because the Manufacture's website sometimes doubles or triples the price of the part so you pay more )

If you go on Newegg you could probably find the same part for cheaper then the manufacture's website

Hope I helped

Hi

So I'm going to upgrade the default HDD on my laptop HP Pavilion DV6 2153.eo. There are two things that I'm not so sure of tho.

1. Can I get a SATA/III SSD HDD and throw it in the laptop <- are the SATA/III SSD HDDs backward compatible with/to SATA/II

2. What HDD should I get, it should at least be something like 180Gb but then also the price shouldn't be sky high...and then ofc I should also be able to get it here in north Europe

P.S. I'm also going to get more ram...is there anything else that can be upgraded..?

Hi, I'm interested in upgrading from the NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 that comes with the Pavilion p6-2307a. I run Windows 10 64-bit. The specifications for my desktop (for non-HP support people) can be found here:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03604360 I'd like to get an EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB, however I've heard that other people have been unable to upgrade their graphics cards in Pavilions, because they're "locked," such that HP won't allow you to change the default graphics card. Is this true for my desktop? If so, would it be fixed by getting a new motherboard? Even if I can use this GPU, there's a capacitor very close to the PCI express x16 slot, just above it, which I think might get in the way. I could possibly use a PCI express x16 extender, however I'm not sure how the GPU would actually be physically supported, so I don't think this is a long term solution. If I do replace my motherboard, would I then need to re-install Windows? And would I need to purchase a new copy? Or would my existing copy of Windows some-how be transferrable to my new motherboard? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks, Lachlan.

It started out as windows 8 with 8gb ram, is there a way i can upgrade to 16gb ram so that i can make it run smoother with more programs running? and would it be worth it, or should i just get a new compter that has a better graphics card. This is what i use for school and playing steam games.

A:HP Pavilion 17-e049wm upgrading ram

The official specs say it maxes at 8 gigs but the service manual says 12 and we know it will run 16 as reported by many users. You will not see a lot of benefit from the 8 gig to 16 gig upgrade. It is generally a pretty powerful laptop with an A10 processor and 8650M video but it is onboard video. The processor is an APU which does both the regular computing and the video chores. If you want to do gaming you are going to need a laptop with real dedicated video. 8 gigs is going to give you all the gaming performance the laptop is capable of providing. If you are doing heavy video editing or photoshop work 16 gigs might help.  See p. 54 of the Manual here for memory installation instructions: Manual Post back if you have any more questions. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

OK, someone at my wife's work was having pc problems and old HP would randomly and often hard-lock on her and wanted me to look at it. After checking a few things, ram, heatsink, power supply, I told her that without parts i was kind of dead in the water, so I started looking for parts. Ebay seemed to be the only prospect, old AMD slot A MB with pc100 ram, mostly everything was going to be used stuff and she didnt like that so had to look for something else. I ended up finding a socket A MB, Sempron2400+/333 and 512 pc2700 for approx $125. After messing with the HP case awhile we desided to deep six the case I had a spare mini-tower that she could have, fiited with a new 400watt ATX psu. My 4 year old Pavilion 9695c came with 128 MB RAM, and an empty slot for another 128. The literature said that 256 was the max.

I added the second stick but now find that 256 is not enough. Some applications (twain) will not run adequately for lack of memory.

I inquired to HP to see if they offered a motherboard/RAM upgrade. This was their reply:
The motherboard shipped with your HP Pavilion 9695c PC supports maximum 512 MB, 256 MB in each of the two memory slots. Although installing more then 256 MB might sometimes work on your computer, it is recommended that you install 256 MB memory only.

Rather than buy a new machine, I'd like to keep this one, just need more RAM. Before I buy two new 256 sticks and see if it will work, does anyone know? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I installed the drive (a SanDisk Extreme 480GB unit that I've had sitting around unopened for a while) and then used my recovery discs to get Windows 7 onto the SSD. The process seemed to be going okay--it went through all five recovery discs, rebooted from the SSD and began the setup process. Soon I got a "restoration incomplete" error message, though. So much for that. (The HP Recovery Manager also gave me this incredibly helpful explanation: "There might be unexpected reboot during Specialize to BBV1. Hi, Yes, it supports SSD and you could restore using DVD's. Sounds like the process compared old HDD size and new SSD size. My parents bought this computer for me last year from Circuit City for $600. At first I was like "YES!!!! I can finally play good games on this computer. We were surprised by how "good" it was and the price compared to that. Well, last year my definition of good games had to do with low graphics. Now that I'm older and games have gotten better, I need a new graphics card. Now that Black Friday is coming up, I have a great chance at low prices. I need a new PSU (Power Processing Unit) to accommodate the greater power I need for a new card. What PSU should I get? Then I need the card itself, which needs to be able to fit into the right port in the computer. What is a good but not too expensive graphics card? Some more help I could use is knowing what ports for video cards does an a6700f have? PCI, PCI express, AGP, and/or etc.? Another thing could be a picture of the internals in the tower. I want to know what I will see before I open up the cover. Somebody please help, I need to find out all these things fast before Black Friday sneaks up on me. Thanks!

Hi there, I have reached whits end here, I am looking to upgrade my GeForce GT 545 with a GeForce GTX 750 ti on my HP Pavilion h8-1170uk. I have emailed your support asking for advice and have been told to phone your number although I have explained twice I am deaf.  I asked extremely helpful customer services at NVIDIA who told me my computer would definitely be able to handle the GeForce GTX 750 ti and I even asked on amazon before buying as I really was not sure. After getting yes all around (apart from HP who just won't get back to me) I bought the card attempted to install it only to find that it needs a double slot at the back of the pc. I had looked at my PC and had thought it had at least four slots (Photos uploaded) as it had 4 areas it seems at the back, one with the original graphics card in and 3 more with metal covers. After uninstalling the old drivers and attempting to put the graphics card in I found that only two of the four slots seemed to open and those two were not even next to each other, which means that I can not fit the GTX 750 ti inside my computer. even looking at my photos it looks like they should open but they seem to be attached to the rest of the frame. I realised this when the 3rd slot up come out as I expected the other two to come out but honestly they are just welded in! The shinier metal strips that you see over them do come off but to no avail. I have to admit I am at the end of my teather and really fear... Read more

A:Upgrading my HP Pavilion h8-1170uk with a GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Hi, Your first issue is that most NVIDIA GTX 750 graphics cards will not work in your PC.  MSI does have a couple of models of the GTX 750 graphics card that may work. Most if not all graphics cards that I have worked with are designed to fit around the the back slot separator I/O vertical strip.  Review this posted article for the view of a double wide graphics card.  The slotted plate in the middle is easily removed by inserting a flat bladed screwed and wiggling it back and worth until the removable plate becomes loose enough where you can use a pliers to finish the remove process.  The shield is designed to "break off".

My friend bought a used laptop last year that has been running very slow. She asked me to fix it and I found out she's running Windows 7 on an old HP pavilion dv4250us with only 512 MB of ram. Obviously it needs more memory to run Windows 7 smoothly. I'm not sure if it's worth trying to find memory for this old laptop or going back to Windows XP. She can't afford anything too expensive (otherwise she'd just get a new laptop).

I found this: http://www.memorystock.com/memory/He...ndv4250us.html
which looks pretty reasonable. I'm guessing 2 1 GB sticks will do the trick.

I'm not really sure how to change the memory in this laptop, but I managed to snap a picture of the memory after I opened it up and was hoping one of you guys can give me some tips and let me know if it's worth the effort.

I'd like to upgrade the processor on an HP Pavilion 7160 166mgz computer. Just like to make it faster on the internet. Like to keep it cheap if possible. I was thinking of upgrading to the 500 to 800mgz range if possible and stay under $150. Any suggestions on where I could go to the processor and where I might get instructions on how to install it?

Any help you can be would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

A:Upgrading processor on an HP Pavilion 7160

Your not going to be able to do that, your pentium motherboard won't support it. Highest speed that chip went was 233 and that's not worth the bother, it may not even work on that motherboard. Money would be better spent on something newer

Sorry

IMHO, I would do a clean install but the upgrade is easier for a novice.  The upgrade would bring along any junk from the old install but a clean install would need to have all the drivers saved on seperate media to be available for the reinstall.  6 of one, half dozen of the other.BTW: All the Vista drivers are HERE on the support page.  I do not see anything for Windows 7.

Many people say it's useless to upgrade the video card on a Hp Pavilion like mines because it only accepts PCI cards. I'm not looking for any expensive high-tech cards, just something that can Handle COunter-Strike:Source.

Help please.

A:Upgrading Video card on my HP Pavilion a705w

Honestly, your best bet would be to buy a new computer, if you were going to run CS:S on a system like this, you would have to upgrade video as well as some memory... There are no "good" video cards for a PCI slot, and the memory in that system isnt all that great...

So I got my hands on a G6 Pavilion that got totally fried because someone at my lab poured beer on it. Today I had a chance to check the individual components after opening it up and found that the motherboard and CPU are totally toast. I'm contemplating fixing the machine with the assumption that the rest of the computer is good (had the chance to check over RAM and WIFI card and they're both good).  The thing is, I don't like the dedicated graphics option on the laptop - an HD6470m mated with an i5 2450m. The processor is fine; but I was wondering if I could instead upgrade to an Ivy Bridge CPU - like the i5 3340m and just run it on the HD4000 internal graphics (which is more powerful than the HD6470m. Anyone know if this is possible running the latest F.66 bios?  Laptop is a G6 1311tu Pavilion 15.6 inch.  PS: the model I have doesn't have the dedicated card, but am basically thinking about changing the specs to that of a 1311TX, with the dedicated if I had to stick with the Sandy Bridge since the HD3000 isn't as powerful. But the Ivy Bridge's HD4000 is much better than the Radeon.

I would recommend a gtx 460 or an amd 6790. Both run right around $150. For only 150 you aren't going to get anything near max settings. Also you have to upgrade your psu. The recommended amount is at the very minimum 300w for a low end graphics card. You ideally need a mid-high end gpu, but you can't get all that much better performance in your price range. You should be looking for a decent 450-550w PSU. Corsair is a good brand.

Yes you can do it but you will need a 3.5 inch to 2.5 inch adapter so the little skinny SSD will occupy the space currently used by the 3.5 inch desktop drive in your All in One.  Here is the Upgrading Guide: Guide     see p. 10  The best SSDs are the Samsung 850 Evo 2.5 inch SATA SSD.  As long as you are running Windows 7 or higher you will not have any trouble. A:UPgrading myHP Pavilion dv6-6110us to windows 10

First make a backup of everything in your computer. Generally a PC running Win 7 should be able to run Win 10. I have a DV4 running Win 10 that originally had Win 7 and had no official drivers for Windows 10. The same driver set of windows 7 in most scenarios will be applied for ten also. As for display does your lappy have a graphics card or inbuilt graphics?

Hello, I am wanting to upgrade from the integrated graphics that came with my computer to a GeForce GT 730. I already have the card and had plugged it into my PCIe x16 slot and do see the fan running but neither my BIOS or Windows sees a card plugged into that slot. I did go into the BIOS to see if I had to enable the slot but the only option I see is to Disable or Enable security on the slot. It was already set to disabled. I'm kind of at a loss as to getting it recognized and if any more info is needed I'm happy to provide.

Boba729, welcome to the forum. Here is a card that should work for you.  It is a double card, so you will no doubt lose the use of one of the PCI Express x1 slots.  Read the "Customer Reviews" to see what other users have to say.  If you decide against this card be certain to stay under 9" in length to assure that it fits into the space provided. It doesn't state the amount of wattage required to run it properly, but I believe that you can get by with a 550W to 600W power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a highly rated PSU manufactured by Corsair.  I also like OCZ products. These two items should keep you close to your $200 limit. Please click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

Hi,I'm thinking of purchasing a Pavilion 15 ab128na laptop and wanted to know about its upgrading capabilities. It ships with a 256GB M.2 SSD drive but this maybe a bit small. Is there room for an additional HDD drive (like the pavilion gaming notebook)? A:Pavilion 15 ab128na upgrading hard drive

Here is the Service Manual: Manual This Manual says Star Wars Edition and the 15-ab128na shares the same internals with that model.  The problem will be that if your laptop ships with just the M.2 mSSD I do not believe they will include the mounting kit for a 2.5 inch hard drive. You would have to acquire that part in the secondary market somehow. Hard Drive Hardware Kit (brackets and connector) 809296-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/809296-001-Hp-15-AB027CL-Hard-Drive-Caddy-Kit-Grade-A-/171992018156?hash=item280b85ecec:g:2SgAAOSw7hRWPoW0 Also, accessing the hard drive bay is a bit of a chore and will put the warranty in jeopardy.  But to directly answer your question the laptop is designed to have both an M.2 and 2.5 inch SATA drive at the same time.  You could also install a hard drive as pure storage using the DVD drive slot with an adapter. Obviously you lose the optical drive but I find myself using mine very rarely these days, anyway. Using that bay will not impact the warranty.  Let us know if you need any more help.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I've had my Pavilion 500 for awhile and I've enjoyed it but it has always kind of struggled with gaming. I don't usually try to play the latest titles or go for ultra graphics so it hasn't been a huge deal, but I've been thinking about upgrading to get better performance and play some newer games. In particular, I would like to play Overwatch and get better performance in WOW. Here's my current stats (which are just what the computer came with): Intel Core i5-44606 GB RamNvidia GeForce GT 705 I did some research, and it seems like the graphics card is the weak link that is hurting my gaming ability. I've never upgraded a graphics card before so I just want to be sure I get something that would work for my system. I did some research and I thought the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti looked like a reasonable option for me. Does anyone know if it would work in my Pavilion? Any other suggestions for graphics card or otherwise? Thanks!

The most concern is your CPU chip is 2008, and only a 1.8Ghz processor.  I would suggest you "name" some of these games, so collectively, forum members could reply.  The only 750Ti card that I am aware of that would work is the MSI  N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC or N750Ti TF 2GD5

There is no way to add a video card without upgrading the power supply unit (PSU).  The current PSU is only 300W.  While some of the newer cards state in the specs that they will run on 300W, most members have reported that they require 400W. Here is a USB 3.0 video adapter that will work.  You have two USB 3.0 ports on the back of your computer.  I suggest contacting StarTech's Tech Support for help with choosing the best video adapter for your needs. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hey,

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 customized to order laptop. It came with an 80GB HDD which was running out of space so I purchased a new 250GB 2.5" SATA drive from ZipZoomFly.com for it and followed HP's procedure on replacing the harddrive. When I reboot the computer once it is installed, naturally no OS boots. However, when I insert a fresh XP MCE OEM copy, and I run the set up, it tells me that it can not find any hard disks and I should check the configuration or see if there are any harddisk manufacturer utilities to prepare the drive. (Not in those exact words, but something like that.) It's a Western Digital drive so I used their DataLifeguard utility for DOS and booted from it. This software detected the harddrive product number however it said that the jumpers may be incorrect or something like that however the drive is NOT using nor came with any jumper shunts. So, I thought maybe the drive could be corrupt so I used a SATA to USB adapter with the drive and formatted the drive with Disk Management on my desktop pc and the drive works fine via USB on the desktop however same problem on the laptop. I then replaced the old harddrive and hooked up the new one via USB and it still works fine that way. For some reason, this laptop doesnt like the new HDD as a boot device. It is very frustrating as I am going back to college in 2 days and I would like this to work for more storage on the boot drive. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, I wanted to upgrade the optical drive in my HP S5545UK to a BluRay writable one. Having read various reviews and checked the 'Replacing a CD or DVD Drive' article at: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01755009 ...I decided on the LG BH10LS38 and ordered it from Amazon. Following the instructions in the link above, the part about connecting the new drive states that there may be three cables required - one of which is the "Eject or control cable (not needed for some drives)". As this drive just has the power and SATA connection - I presumed this was one of the "some drives" that do not need the eject/control cable. However, it seems that it's not about whether the *drive* needs this cable - it's about the design of the Pavilion case! It's designed so the optical drive sits vertically. Fine, no problem - this drive is designed for that (has extra support in the tray). BUT, the drive's eject button is not only hidden by the front bezel, but also by the front facia of the PC (so even removing the bezel doesn't allow access to the eject button). HP have put their own 'eject' button just below the drive on the front panel, but this is what the third cable is. It connects this switch directly to the original optical drive. Without this connection, there is no way of hardware-ejecting the replacement drive. Sure, I know it can be software-ejected, but that's quite annoying - and there's always those times when you remember just aft... A:Upgrading optical drive in Pavilion Slimline S5545UK

I know this has been a while, 4+ years old, but most drives have a pin hole to hardware eject after shutdown. Additionally, the control cable only makes connection to the external case eject/close button. There is still a hardware button on the drive. All you must do is open the cover flap (or remove it) to access it. I have replaced stock DVD drive with a BD drive that does not have the control cable port and operate it just fine with the cover removed. The front of the case doesn't look as nice, but it?s still more than functional.-Kurt

Firstly i went to crucial.com to check what gfx cards my computer was compatible with. It told me PCI-express

I bought the above gfx card.
The gfx card installation CD doesnt have instructions for its specific type of card (X1300), just a bunch of other ATI Radeons, which is ridiculous.
Its made by Sapphire so it figures.

Well ive never done this before, ive installed RAM which is easy but ive heard this is a bit more complex. Ive been told i need to first uninstall my current video drivers and possibly disable the onboard. My Current card is on a Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family motherboard. I also heard i have to hook a bunch of things up. Could anyone give me a walkthrough or point me in the direction of an installation guide?

Don't kill the messenger but....

It looks to me like for expansion slots, you are limited to PCI only. You do not have any PCIexpress slots on that motherboard, nor any AGP.

The card you purchased will not work in your system. You may want to wait for a second opinion before you toss it out your window, but I am 99.999999% sure.

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

When I hit esc on boot and select the boot devices to boot from nothing is shown.  If  I let it just try to boot it give me a message that no bootable image on hard disk. It is a new hard.  When I put it in legacy support mode it will boot either the USB or the internal DVD, but I want to use UEFI and the new APT format for security. What device can you buy so this laptop  will boot something that is portable media on this bios ? It came with this format on the original hard drive with windows 7. Thanks,Buford HP Pavilion DV4-5113cl with INSYDE F39 bios from latest update

Hello,

I am currently wanting to begin the process of upgrading various parts of my computer in the upcoming months. The first item I would like to do upgrade is the RAM. I am currently using 8BG (4x2) and would like to double that. I was thinking of going with the Corsair Vengeance 2x8. Eventually I would like to have a pretty sick gaming computer. As of right now, it can handle a lot but can struggle from time to time if I crank up the graphic settings.

I guess the reason I am posting this is to ask a few questions. Would upgrading RAM be a good starting point if wanting to upgrade other hardware as well. I was thinking of also swapping out the video card, cpu, and adding some fans (when I get money that is). I must sound like a complete novice right now lol.. but, I am ready to finally go through with this because my computer is starting to feel like it is getting behind the times in terms of speed and performance haha. Anyway, any insight into this topic and or first time upgrading, specifically with the RAM, would be grrreat. Thanks.

I've managed to upgrade some of my home PC's from Win 7 or Win 8 to Wn 10 without any significant problems, but I am having major difficulty upgrading one of my PC's.

It is running Win 7 Home 32-bit and when I originally ran the Windows 10 upgrade advisor, it indicated that I could not upgrade as my NVidia GEForce 6600 graphics card was incompatible with Windows 10.

I tried various workarounds, using suggestions on this and other sites, to upgrade with the GEForce card but none were successful. So I purchased and installed a new graphics card - an AMD Radeon R7 240, which should be Win 10 compatible.

I then re-ran the Win 10 upgrade advisor - it still said that I couldn't upgrade as the "GeForce 6600 card" was incompatible - even though it was no longer installed!

I checked the Device Manager and the graphics card was clearly showing as being the AMD card. I then explicitly uninstalled any NVidia drivers/software using the Control Panel/Program uninstall - still unable to upgrade to Win 10. I also ran the Wagnard tools "Display driver uninstaller" and removed any NVidia software/drivers - still unable to upgrade. I am using the latest drivers from the AMD website.

I also tried to upgrade using the Media Creation tool and a Win 7 image from DVD (previously this also failed to work and gave the incompatible graphics card error); this seemed to work up to a point, but after a reboot it wanted me to select a keyboard layout but neither my usb keyboard no... My HP Pavilion 500-205t was destroyed by a lightning strike. The HD is o.k. I have purchased an HP Pavilion 500-490 because the specs were very close.  I  want to use my 205t HD. Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is:  can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? If I need the external HD enclosure, looks like aluminum would be best, but would like recommendation for one which would hold my HD.

Hi,

I bought Windows 7 having come from Vista. However, there is a BIOS update for my system. The new BIOS update states: The BIOS updates the fan control algorithm of the system, and turns the fan on at low volume while your notebook PC is operational. If you are currently experiencing any symptoms on your notebook PC, please contact HP for support. It is located here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...340180&lang=en

I'd love to flash it but not sure if it will ruin my computer as it's more than likely not designed for flash when Windows 7 is on it or do you's know any better?

I also have 2 blue vertical lines going do the right hand side of the screen. I've seen loads of problems but no solutions. Has any fixed this HP problem?

Cheers folks!

A:Upgrading BIOS after Upgrading from Vista to 7

The BIOS is the stuff that happens BEFORE Windows starts to load.
Do you have issues with overheating or with the fan? If so, the BIOS update is for you.
Also, BIOS flashes are dangerous - and you can turn your computer into a paperweight by doing it incorrectly. In short, if it ain't broke - don't fix it!

The type of lines that you describe on your screen are usually caused by hardware issues. Send it in for repair if the system is under warranty. If not, then get an estimate from a local computer store - it may be cheaper to live with it.

I am trying to fix my granddaughter computer hp pavilion dv4-1514dx, I did reinstall windows 7 and I have al kinds of errors:
After the reinstallation of windows 7, I have this message: ?No bootable device-Insert boot disk and press any key?
When I shut the computer and reboot again I get this message:
Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows in this computer, restart the installation.?
Then I restart again and this is what happens:
Application close [info] NO HDD
Hard drive test ok
Some times the computer restarts ok but then ask for administrator password
Administrator password is Clear in the bios set up
Can you help?

It sounds like something went wrong during the Windows re-installation. Since it sounds like you have installation media and this is a fresh install anyway, the first thing I would do is try installing again from the Installation DVD.

Hiya morgansssss,

Right mate do you have all the Quickplay software. If so all you need to do is goto Start, Computer, Devices, Hardware. At the top of the page you will see System Devices. Click it.

You will then see a window just like XP. Hit the hardware tab then scroll down to the USB line.

Once there you should see "USB composite device". Right click on it and choose Enable.
There will be a pause as the device is enabled.

You will then need to scroll up a little and find "imaging devices". Right click on "HP Webcam" and enable it.

That should sort it out. If not let us know.... Hope that helps. Peace

My wife's HP Pavilion has hit the bunk, or so it seems.

It's a four year old laptop, which has been suffering from serious spyware problems for a while. Before it quit, I ran Panda active scan on it, and it detected 200+ malware infections. When I tried cleaning out Temp. Internet files, cookies, etc., IE would freeze and not respond.

Then - the mouse quit on logon. So, I thought, I've had it, time to reformat and reinstall manufacturer software. Which I did, only to find out that on boot-up mouse and keyboard both refused to respond. Not good.

Ran the diagnostic utility, which said something about RAM being set wrong, and then point out some non-specific "board problem".

Does anyone have any idea what this is about, before I reach for my biggest sledge hammer and have some quality time in my backyard with this piece of junk? :suspiciou

download Spybot search and destroy and ad-aware.
run both.

panda anti-virus sucks. Use norton or mcafee.

consider using an alternate web browser like mozilla or firefox. They're less prone to virus and trojan attacks.

I have been trying to help a friend update or correct her winxp on her HP pavilion 520w
I have a copy of my winxp cd from my dell system however I dont have the product key
code to use it. So I have tried repeatedly to reset her computer to boot from her cdrom without success. I even posted here last week and someone suggested to tap the delete
key when rebooting to change the boot sequence. I wasnt able to get it to work.
However I did accidently discover that tapping F10 brings up the Recover system on her computer. Not knowing exactly for sure if I could just correct her winxp with recoverying the whole system I turned off the computer to stop it. I have 3 questions
1) Can anyone tell me if the Recovery System on this HP model allows you to correct a current copy of your windows without reformatting?
and/or
2) Can anyone tell me how to set this HP model to reboot from the CD-rom?
OR
3) How do I access the bios to change the boot sequence?

Thanks

Hi there, I want to install an M.2 SSD in my new Pavilion laptop but I just want to be sure this will work. My laptop part no. is V2Z44AV - HP Pavilion 17t-ab000 CTO (ENERGY STAR)It doesn't have a touchscreen.I want to install: 512 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe TLC PA, for use with non-touch screen products 847110-004This part is listed in the laptop's service manual. When I bought the laptop from the HP store, I was only given the option of the 128GB SSD which was not enough for my needs, so I went with the 1TB spinner. This is why I'm not 100% sure that the 512GB is compatible. I disassembled the laptop and I do have a free M.2 slot. I just want to be sure this will work and that it will use the full four lanes of the PCIe 3.0 bus. Otherwise I'll look at a lower-cost upgrade. Thanks for your time!

Five months ago I bought an HP Pavilion Notebook (dv6119us). I also purchased Norton Internet Security 2007 and Spy Sweeper. I kept these (along with Windows XP) up to date. About a month ago I turned it on and it said, “Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose, Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren’t sure what cause the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.” Then it listed the ways to start up (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, Start Windows Normally). I made no hardware changes and the only software changes were Norton, Spy Sweeper, and Windows updates. The last time that I had my computer on it did not stop responding or restart automatically, or shut down automatically. Previous start up was not interrupted due to power failure and I did not press the power button or the reset button. I tried all options, starting with Start Windows Normally. When I did this and when I tried starting with Last Known Good Configuration, Windows acted like it was going to start up and then the screen went blank (power was still ok). When I started in the Safe M... Read more

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion dv4 that I have put windows 10 on.  Everything is working and going great considering how old this laptop is.   But I do have four drivers that I am not sure to what they are. Also one drivers to my USB might need an update cause periodically my mouse disconnects for just a second and then it will reconnect and continue to work.  This is the only issue I am having but I would like to get the other four drivers installed and maybe the rest updated if they need to be.  I would think windows 10 would have the rest of them updated or it would show if they were not but being so old I am unaware if it would detect them. Either way any information on what I could do to get this fixed would be greatfully appricated! Here is what I have.... 1.  Base System Device PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_30F7103C&REV_00PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&SUBSYS_30F7103CPCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&CC_088000PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2383&CC_0880  2. I'm a little confused by what you said, "My Computer only has like 16-20gb". How big is you HDD? Anyway, go to www.newegg.com they have some of the best prices and customers give reviews on the items so you can get a better idea of which one you like. Seagate is a well respected brand. Video-
I tried installing Direct X 9. It seemed to install fine, I restarted
like it asked me to and I tried installing and playing Halo. It game me
a error about hardware acceleration, it did the same with Battlefield
1942 (giving a slighty diffrent error, but basicly the same), and also
with a N64 Emulator. They all gave me Direct X related errors. I went
into several places (can't really remember were" to check what video
card I had, and they all said "unkown".

Audio:
The audio doesn't work, I didn't really try anything to fix it other
then making sure everything was connected-which is it.

Also, I don't know if this is important or not (it shouldn't be), but I
uninstalled the defualt version of windows the PC came with, mainly
becuase of all the worthless **** it came with, I figured it was just
easier to re-install windows thne delete it all.

CD Burner:
I can't get the thing to work, I tried Nero and CDRWIN and neither of them would burn a cd, it just said no CD writer installed

I was thinking maby it was a drivers problem, I tried reinstalling them
through the device manager section but it just said their was no drivers
found.
