Hey,

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 customized to order laptop. It came with an 80GB HDD which was running out of space so I purchased a new 250GB 2.5" SATA drive from ZipZoomFly.com for it and followed HP's procedure on replacing the harddrive. When I reboot the computer once it is installed, naturally no OS boots. However, when I insert a fresh XP MCE OEM copy, and I run the set up, it tells me that it can not find any hard disks and I should check the configuration or see if there are any harddisk manufacturer utilities to prepare the drive. (Not in those exact words, but something like that.) It's a Western Digital drive so I used their DataLifeguard utility for DOS and booted from it. This software detected the harddrive product number however it said that the jumpers may be incorrect or something like that however the drive is NOT using nor came with any jumper shunts. So, I thought maybe the drive could be corrupt so I used a SATA to USB adapter with the drive and formatted the drive with Disk Management on my desktop pc and the drive works fine via USB on the desktop however same problem on the laptop. I then replaced the old harddrive and hooked up the new one via USB and it still works fine that way. For some reason, this laptop doesnt like the new HDD as a boot device. It is very frustrating as I am going back to college in 2 days and I would like this to work for more storage on the boot drive. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I have an HP Pavilion DV6000 (more exactly DV6736NR) laptop here and I cannot find drivers for the video or the "base system device". I have drivers downloaded for Vista (which everyone says works in Windows 7); but, when I try to install them, the process aborts with a message that the best driver for the devices are already installed.

Problems are "base system device" has an exclamation point with it so it isn't working properly and the display adapter is listed as "standard VGA graphics adapter", which gives me no resolutions that appropriate for wide screen..

HP Pavilion dv6000 4gb RAM Have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop with an Intel Core 2 T7200 CPU and am trying to get it to recognize 4gb of RAM. Am using Windows XP Professional as my operating system and am aware that if 4gb of RAM is installed correctly the operating system will only display 3.25 gb of RAM.

Here's my situation: I installed (2) 2gb chips and the computer wouldn't boot. So I downgraded to (1) 2gb chip and (1) 1gb chip and 3gb of RAM showed up as working on my computer.

I later heard that if I update the BIOS I can upgrade to 4gb of RAM. So I searched around for the lastest BIOS with no luck. The HP site for my computer only has a BIOS update for computers with AMD processors. I managed to find a BIOS that was compatible with my computer and reinstalled the 4gb of RAM and this time the computer did boot. BUT now when I look at the system properties it shows only 2.99gb of RAM which is even less than the 3.00gb that was showing up when I only had 3gb of RAM in my computer!

I know the 4gb of RAM will show up as 3.25gb in my system properties if it is being recognized correctly and my question is does anyone know where to get the correct BIOS upgrade for my computer so the RAM will be fully recognized? Originally I had BIOS version 16 so it would have to be later than that.

Thanks.

hello,  History: i have buy a notebook before one year. it works perfectly for me till one day. One day i turn it on and it shutdown by itself. I go to the technician for notebooks (before in my country we do not have HP store) and he tell me that my notebook has two ribbon cables under keyboard broken. One is for quick launch buttons, and one is for power button. One cable (for quick launch buttons) i buy by internet in ebay store, and i am looking to buy another one, that for power button. Problem: one day before those two ribbons cable broke , i have chang/upgrade the bios version. The name of old version if BIOS i do not remmember but the new version that i have upgradet is F.3D. The day after after i do this upgrade, i found out that those two ribbons cable are broken. The computer does not work correctly, i push the power button and when the computer starts after 5 seconds it restart it self , and this thing repeat and repeat and repeat all the time. In the time when i change one ribbon cable (for quick launch buttons) , it works very good, for a very little time maybe 3 days. and after 3 days start to work in that way start-shutdown. Today i tryed to turn on and for the first time it works, but first i have receive this data: Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.1Copyright 1985-2005 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.All rights reserved BIOS version F.3DCPU stepping = Unknown  1600 MHz <---  BSP info, 2 cpu's Detected2048M System R... A:Please help me in a problem with HP Pavilion dv6000

Actually in my experience, those two errors are not serious if this is the first time it booted since you did the upgrade.  Date and Time have been reset so you just need to go in and enter it in again.  The checksum is because some of the settings have changed with the upgrade, others have reverted to a default and they don't match with the last known good setting that was stored in memory (because it was from the old bios).  Going in and making any changes that need to be made and then saving your settings usually gets you going.  However if you boot it again and this error keeps coming up, then you may have a bad CMOS battery that isn't holding a charge or a pooched firmware upgrade.

I have had an HP Pavillion dv6000 for a few years, and suddenly, it will not power up at all.  I can not determine that anything at all happens when I press the power button.  What's weird is that when I connect the power, the AC LED (the one with the lightning bolt above it) lights, and stays lit for 30 seconds, and then turns off.  During that time, and thereafter, the power light will not come on at all, and the computer will not power up.  I have tried removing the battery and power cord and holding the power button for 45 seconds, multiple times, but nothing seems to work.  I hope you can offer some advice on things to try.   Thanks,Zach

Hey folks,

I've had my HP for 2yrs now and it's always been fine until the last 6 months or so when the battery life was slowly diminishing when it wasn't connected to the charger.

Anyway got a new 12-cell battery and ever since then my laptop's suddenly switches off due to overheating.

It got me thinking that that battery may be responsible?

However the laptop would overheat before this change but it never automatically switched off.

Any help?

Thanks, Naaila

A:Hp pavilion dv6000 overheating

Buy a can of compressed air and blow out any dust from the vents and fans.

The DV6000 is part of the heavily flawed line of HP models that has critical over heating and failure issues. Se if yours is one of them: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

I'd also strongly recommend a BIOS model for the laptop even if its not one of the affected models, for the affected models its a must or you'll eventually end up with a non-functional laptop: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...pe=s-002&h_query=dv6000&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
Make sure to let the laptop cool down completely before doing the update.

After doing that if the laptop still has issues then maybe there is an issue with the new battery or due to its size its increasing the inherent overheating issue. Your 12 cell battery, is it a physically bigger battery?

I am having problems with my HP pavilion dv6000, here are the symptoms:
It freezes at times durring normal use and sometimes on startup*
I get "operating system cannot be found" on startup
Streaming a video on a websight like hulu tends to make it freeze, this lead me to think the prob. might be ram related, the ram has a bit more than 2 gigs free of 12. A fee weeks ago the ram was very close to being full, and was showing as a red bar instead of green.
It will sometimes freeze and then the screen will go blue saying something to the effect of it's shutting down so not to hurt it's self
I had 1 or 2 trojan horses and 1-2 viruses, two of which where quarantined by AVG free 9.0 and the others by Avast free Antivirus, although I do not recall what viruses they where.
To (try) fix the problam I downloaded 500+ mb of windows updates, did a compleat disk defrag 2x, scanned the computer for viruses, Trojan horses etc with Avast and AVG ( both up to date free editions). The computer has done several system restores and something else after it tries to start unsuccesully.

The most vulnerable part of any PC is its hard drive; it's the only mechanical (moving) part in a computer. Operating system not found is a message displayed when the computer can't find an operating systems on any hard drives, also indicating that it may not be seeing your hard drive at all. Run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic tool from here: http://carrona.org/hddiag.html

If the hard drive does end up being the cause then you could replace it yourself for much cheaper than bringing it to a shop.

A:Need HP Pavilion DV6000 Drivers

Yes this np you will be able to find your drivers for DV6000 on this page -
Select software and drivers HP Pavilion dv6000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can also finder w7 video drivers on 1 of these 3 sites -
Ati - Graphics Drivers & Software
Nvidia - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
Anything Intel you can download here but i dont think they have any W7 drivers yet but the vista drivers work - Download Software, Drivers and Utilities

If you cant get a driver to install because of an OS mismatch error (wont install) do the following - match the OS the drivers are written for with the compatibility mode you choose eg vista with vista compatibility mode :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Hello!I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, with a 32-bit Vista business, 2 processors of Genuine Intel with 1.73GHz each, and only 1GB of RAM. I would like to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but I don't know if that's possible, and/or how to do that. I hope you guys can help me.Thanks.

A:How to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000 ?

We need to know the exact model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can then just check by model number with Crucial at crucial.com to check max memory specs. Some of the dv6000s max at 2 gigs as you likely already know. 2 gigs is dirt cheap and would be a major improvement. With 32 bit Vista even if you install 4 gigs only 3 will be available for Windows to use. So 2 gigs is your best bet anyway. The difference between 1 gig and 2 is huge, the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible, in my opinion.

Hi, i was given a hp pavilion dv6000 a while back now, and i've recently come across overheating problems while burning dvd's.
I've installed flash bios and used the hoover on the vents (which was recommened by hp support) but i'm still having problems.
I'm just wondering if there's anything i should try, maybe it's worth taking the heat sink out to give it a clean..?
I ran 'hardware sensors monitor' today and the cpu cores got up to 77*c (while the cpu's working at 100%) before i stopped it . I also just noticed that the bottom rubbers that are near the cpu fan and hdd are missing, seems like the heats melted the glue and they've fallen off.

Any help or advice would be appriciated!

Thanks, Dave.

Kind of a long-winded problem, so I'll try to condense.
My daughter's HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop came with Vista Home Premium installed. It has an AMD processor, nVidia graphics, and SATA HDD. The HDD died, so it needs replacing and of course the OS installed on the new HDD. I've done this before when I built my old Intel-based desktop PC originally and when its HDD died last year.
Naturally, she didn't get a full install CD for Vista when she bought the laptop about 2-3 years ago. I wanted to install XP Pro on it, but XP and SATA don't get along too well from what I've researched. From what I gather, there are a couple methods to install XP on a SATA HDD. One involves creating a bootable CD with the appropriate SATA drivers slip-streamed along with XP. I've also read a bit about going into the BIOS and disabling SATA, installing XP, and later installing the SATA drivers, rebooting and entering the BIOS again, re-enabling SATA, and continuing to let XP boot with SATA support.

I suppose using the slip-stream method would probably be easiest, but would the other method be just as simple? Will the SATA drivers for Vista fork with XP? Or am I getting off track here?

Any advice appreciated.

A:Replaced HD and want to install different OS on HP Pavilion dv6000

You have to have a valid Windws XP install disk... HP install disks detect the hard drive, and if they are not designed specifically for that drive, they wimply will not work. You may have to buy a copy of Windows XP, then boot to it...
You will need drivers, so check to see if the HP website offers drivers for that system configuration. If not, you have to be experienced enough to locate and download them yourself.

But what you propose is very possible... just go to the HP site for your HP model, and look for what operating systems are supported.

I live in a dorm room and don't have a wireless router so I've had my wireless turned off for quite some time. Recently I went home where I do have a router and attempted to turn on my wireless to no avail. I have a switch on the front of my computer that is supposed to turn blue when the wireless is on but it never changes from the orange (dormant) color. I've had this issue before when my computer was under warranty and I had to send it to HP. According to them the issue was with my motherboard and once it was replaced I haven't any issues up until now. I went into the device manager and the only issue that seems to be there is an error message next to my 6to4 #4 adapter and it says 'This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. Hi, You could try the following. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  If windows will load in this mode, from the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore.  Pick a restore point at least 48 hours before the log-on issue and then proceed with the restore process.  When complete, Windows will reboot as normal so check if you can now log in correctly. Another option if the above does not help is as follows. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select 'Start Using Last Known Good Configuration' and hit enter. If neither of the options above are successful, try running through the procedure detailed in the guide on the following link. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/130095-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loade... Regards, DP-K

Hello, I will be replacing my hard drive on my HP Pavilion Notebook, and after looking at the HP support site, i have many questions. 1)  I have two different model numbers on my computer - dv6000 on the right above my screen, and dv6700 on the bottom of my computer and System Information. Which is correct? I was directed (via another forum answer to another user) to check the p/n, which in my case is KT260AV. And what is this "CTO" referring to when I pull up info on the HP Support website.... that does not appear anywhere on my computer that I can see. 2) Once I install the new hard drives, I want to do a fresh install of Windows 7 x64. I recently started to experience a sound problem with my Laptop.  I am not sure if the computer was in hibernate or standby but when I unmuted the sound via the touchpad, nothing happened.  the touchpad changes colors like its unmuting, and onscreen it says "mute" but the speakers are not working at all.  I pluged some headphones into the computer and they worked just fine.  i get no sound what so ever from the speakers.  I tryed updating the drivers and disabling the sound card and enabling it again, i also tryed the standard avti-virus stuff, de-frag,disk check.  I also went and reset all the speaker settings to defalt.  I checked all music/video players and made sure they were not muted. restarted the computer, shut it down and took the battery out.  still no sound from the speakers.  Anyone have a fix or any idea the issue?  the computer is like a year and a half to two years old, so unless its a known issue its not covered.  Any help with the matter would be greatly appreciated

A:HP Pavilion dv6000 Sound Problem

Go into SOUND option in control panel and check the playback devices. Even if you uninstall the driver, it will somtiems remain disbaled in that menu. If you don't even see a playback device in there, r-click on the background and tell it to "show hidden device". If the speakers are enabled, and the levels are turned up in that menu also, and it still doesn't work, then you probably have dead speakers.

I don't know what happened but the audio, video and most importantly all Internet/Network drivers are missing. Since there was a lapse in protection it could be a virus OR a classmate deleted thmm???

I have downloaded all drivers on the HP website but still not working or I get :"Only for Vista"???

I loaded the backup/recovery/driver CD but again - still not working(Internet).

Any HELP would be appreciated.

My computer HP pavilion dv6000 running Vista has issues! It will not boot on battery power! It gets to the Microsoft Corporation screen and while loading it glitches. Now it's getting worse and sometimes it does the same thing when it is plugged in! When this problem happens it does start up repair every time and it does not solve the problem it gives an error message "Root cause found A patch is preventing the system from starting Repair action:System files integrity check and repair Result: Failed. Error code = 0x2" I have reinstalled Bios and ran a battery health check and it does not fix the problem.

A:HP Pavilion dv6000 boot issue

Sounds like it maybe a bad battery. It sounds like its surging and has fried the adapter now as well. How old is the system? Do you have SP1? That might cause a problem, its unlikely but it could be.

Hello guys, could you help me with my problem?

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows XP.
After some guy connected a pair of speakers into the microphone slot last night, the screen displayed some weird error message and since that the on-board speakers have been stuck in a loop, making some strange fart-like sound. They do it all the time the laptop is turned on, even before Windows boots. Attempts to change volume or to mute them do not work. System restore did not help either.

Is there anything I can do or do I have to turn it in for repairs?

I just recently swapped out a motherboard for a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. After getting the whole thing put back together, I plugged in the power cable and hit the power button, and it seemed to start spinning for maybe 1.5 seconds. Then it powered off.

I looked at the power jack and the blue LED that forms a ring around the jack was still on. I removed the power cable and plugged it back in, then tried to turn it on again. It spun for maybe a second before turning off again. Now the circular blue LED does not light up when I plug in the power. Nothing happens anymore.

Did the board just fry?

I'm trying to add RAM to my laptop and I saw a video on youtube which made it look easy. One of the steps included running a cmd with administrator wich I was unable to do. I ran the cmd, but not with administrator, so the attempt was incomplete. I gave up for a few days. I've renewed my attempt. I searched the question in my subject and found a comment about the exact model number on the HP service tag. I found 3 different numbers on the laptop (that I thought might be model numbers). There is a number above the top right corner of the screen which reads: HP Pavilion dv6000. There are 4 sets of numbers on the HP service tag. I believe that the first top number on the service tag is the exact model number that he mentioned which is - Product: HP Pavilion dv6500. Then there is the serial number s/n: and the p/n: numer and the service tag number which is dv6648se. Am I correct? If you have any easy ways for me to add RAM or memory please let me know.

Hi, I have installed Windows Seven on my HP Pavilion laptop. Everything works just fine, except the Aero feature. The taskbar, for example, is dull and grey, instead of being glass-like and transparent. I did a problem sweep with Windows, and it said that I had to install the graphics card driver. I cannot seem to find it, however. What am I supposed to do?

A:HP Pavilion dv6000 graphic card driver

Welcome to Seven forums Glouprie: Well first we need to know if your running 32 bit or 64 bit windows 7, Then go into device manager.click on display adapter>properties>details tab>drop down menu>hardware id and Copy and Paste the harware id string. This will give us the Nvidia card your laptop is using, and we can get a driver form their. Most likely you'll need to modify the .inf file to get it to work. Thanks . Fabe

I hope this is in the right place.

Hi there. I currently own an HP Pavilion dv6647nr that dualboots Vista and Linux Mint. I've had it about seven months now. Never had any connection problems in Vista until about a month ago. I would try to go to a web page after having been browsing for a while and suddenly it would tell me there is a page load error. Same thing if I try to go to another site. For some reason I can still use Windows Live and AIM, but no web pages. If I restart it it is almost always okay again, but this has started becoming more frequent - one or two times per day. As far as I know, the other computers connecting through our router are still able to fully connect and use the internet.

I'm not the brightest when it comes to this stuff, so might it be a software problem? I can't think of anything else that has changed that recently, and maybe windows updates had something to do with it?

If anyone has any ideas, it would be helpful. I tried searching for this problem, but I kept getting a search error when I did.

I am able to connect with the LAN/RJ45 with no problems. BIOS is up to date. I read a post from April of this year where someone else had this problem (mediated by PEDROGUY) and was hoping you could help me solve mine. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Yes I have read all the problems with this MOBO on the unit but I am still receiving the signal. Thanks again.

A:how do I replace the keyboard on HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Pages 5-23 to 5-29. Remove the battery and there are screws in there that allow removal of the button strip plastic piece above the keyboard after you flip it back over. Once that is off it is pretty self-explanatory and the pictures show the process.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion DV6402CA and the Wireless Adapter has been working fine for the past 8 months.

This weekend, like an idiot, I decided to install my D-Link DWA-642 Rangebooster N Notebook adapter. Who knew Card Bus and PCMIA weren't the same thing?

Anyway, after installing the software, the instructions prompted me to install the card. This is where I realize the cards are not compatible and abort the installation.

No problems present until I rebooted. Now the Wireless Adapter is no longer recognized by the pc. No question marks, exclamation marks, etc. It's just not present in Device Manager.

I know there are several posts on this topic indicating that the MOBO is to blame and that HP will fix the problem but it worked flawlessly for 8 months! It only stopped working when I installed the D-Link DWA-642 software. It sure sounds software related to me!

Now, I have downloaded the recommended BIOS upgrade and had no luck initially. About two days later however, the wireless worked fine. Now today, it's out again.

I'd love to hear a few educated opinions before I send the unit back to HP.

Cheers,

Chris

PS. I couldn't find anywhere in the BIOS where I could turn the Adapter on/off

Hi, and thanks for the help, in advance.

I bought an HP Pavilion dv6000/with Vista about 6 months ago, I have had overheating problems with the "laptop" since, almost the first day I used it. It overheats and shuts down. Usually, when I turned the laptop back on, after allowing it cool, everything was fine, however, 2-3 days ago, it overheated, while on a cooling pad, shut down, and now I cannot connect to the internet. When I go to "Manage connections", it says that I have an unidentified network and am only able to use "local" and not "internet". Also, my ethernet card is not being recognized, at all, as being installed, yet, my wireless is connected, and working, though, I don't use wireless, as yet.

What could the problem be, and how might I correct this?

A:HP Pavilion dv6000 Vista Wireless Connection

theres a known issue on that adapter and vista - have a read here at some solutions - usually a driver will resolve
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

Hello a few days ago I could turn on this laptop for some reason (running windows xp) so came to the conclusion that the mobo fried so I bought another mobo out of ebay. I changed it and now the computer boots and I get the windows xp welcome sound but with a grey screen with some dull lines of color vertical. So I hooked up an external monitor and I see video up to first windows xp logo and it changes to black to go to the final screen the monitor looses signal. With the external monitor I can get to the bios but I don't see anything in there related to the video which I find weird. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Could it be that the mobo is bad?

If all else fails you can always buy a webcam that is compatible with Windows 7.

Hey Guys,

I am currently having trouble on my Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv6000 model and its running on Windows Vista. I am having some trouble with my sound card. My sound card driver is the Contextant High Definition Audio driver. I clicked the disable button for the sound card on the device manager and then pressed enable again and it didn't work like it used to (there was a red x on the volume speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner and it said no audio device installed). Thinking it was an updating issue I went to this website to update the drivers (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-45570-1). It still didnt work (red x was still there on speaker icon). Then I went back to the device manager and right clicked on the sound card driver and then clicked "roll back driver" under the details tab to make it go to its old functions and it changed. On n the speaker volume icon on the bottom right hand corner you could control the level of the volume but you couldn't hear the "ding" it does when changing the audio levels and too make sure I went on youtube to watch a random video and there was no audio at all. How can I get my old sound card functions back without rebooting my computer completely if possible?

Thanks

The problem is that it now won't recharge at all, it stays at 63%, I have checked all the plugs and they all seem to work, I unplugged it and it recognised that the recharger is not plugged in. The problem is that it won't charge, It says plugged in and not charging. Does anybody have any ideas of what could be the problem or the solution?

thanks in advance

My HP pavilion does not take charging after 80% and sometimes the charging light starts blinking. It shows plugged in , not charging.

A:My HP pavilion 15 notebook does not charge after 81%

Have you tried a battery diagnostic either in the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power on) or in the HP Support Assistant running from Windows? Stopping at 81% seems like it may be a dead power cell in the battery. Can we have the full model number of the laptop and an idea how old the battery is? Original?

Please help

A:HP pavilion 15-n270sa won't charge

The SMART chip inside the battery is like other electronics...it can fail for no apparent reason. You have a dead, dead battery that needs replacement. Are you under warranty?

Recently my Pavilion 10-n000na x2 has refused to charge when the device is powered on. When I attach the charger to the USB-c port the LED indicator light stays white and does not turn orange (charging) and the power indicator in windows task bar shows battery power only and no AC power. When the device is powered down and plugged in it does appear to charge, albeit with increasing reluctance. Occasionally when attaching the power cord when the system is running I will get a windows device popup advising the the USB device I have just attached could not be recognised. This device is still under warranty and both the device and powere cord seem to be in good condition. I am unable to contact HP support as they are only available during hours when I am at work.

My  HP Pavilion x360 will only charge when the lid is closed or the computer is in sleep mode. I have tried changing any relevant power settings and have already consulted multiple friends. I'm wondering if there's a hidden setting I have yet to discover The HP assistant check said the battery is OK.  I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 some time ago not sure if there is a link to the problem I saw a thread for the fix for the Windows 8.1 but sure if that will work for Windows 10 tried a few of the videos on you tube  about uninstalling  drivers but they did not help. any clues please

Hello,The spark that you saw probably means bad news for your laptop.  Is there a pattern to the blinking lights?  If so, please take a look at this document to see if you can fix anything : http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv6-1000-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/3837241/do...

I installed a new battery today and the guy in the store said it wouldn't be fully charged. My computer booted up fine but they I got a warning that the battery was at 14%. I had the power cord plugged in so it should started charging but it didin't. I got my neighbors computer, similar model and I put my battery in his and it started charging so then I plugged in my power cord and it is still charging. So I know my battery is good and my power cable is good because they both work on his computer so there is something wrong with the connection where I plug it in or somewhere else in the computer. When you plug the power cord in the LED should light up but there is no light. Any ideas of anything I can check or do I have to take it in for repair?

HI There,Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 my HP Pavilion x360 has been a complete wreck. Including charging and sound issues. I've been able to resolve the sound issue by using device manager and uninstalling the drivers entirely. I have done the same for the charging problem but to no avail-restart after restart it refuses to charge. This 2-in-1 tablet/pc was purchased about a year ago. And has only had problems since the upgrade. I do not feel comfortable removing the battery as the batter on this particular model is actually enclosed in the casing. As I mentioned I've uninstalled the battery drivers from device managers a few times. Is there:1. A way to get the battery to take a charge without removing it (i.e. troubleshooting site)2. A way to roll they OS all the way back to Windows 7? I've tried rolling it back a few versions but I'm still in Windows 10. Thanks for your help!

Hi I recently purchased a Tiny universal adaptor after having left my H.P charger in a different location which meant I was going to be without it for a week or so.The Tiny charger did not pass on any power to the laptop.. I have since got back the H.P charger which came with the laptop, and tried powering it up. Still nothing.  My laptop is one of the B&O line with a non-removable battery. Do I need to claim on the warranty and replace or is there an easy fix? ThanksWill

A:Hp Pavilion dv4 strange issue, not taking charge

The power jack connector on laptops are soldered (internally) to the motherboard. If the solder connection should break, power can't be delivered (internally) to power the battery or run the computer.

You might try it yourself (see here) if you're comfortable doing so or you'll need to take it to a repair shop

So my laptop has two LED lights, one in the front and one near the plug-in for the charger. Before it would charge perfectly and both lights turned on, then my charger broke and my grandmother got me a charger. This charger worked perfectly but the near-plug-in-LED light stopped turning on. Only the front one was turning on, but aside from that everything seemed just fine. My laptop requires a 120w Charger and the charger she gave me was of 65w. I didn't know this until about a week ago since suddenly during gameplays it would just randomly stop charging after about 5 minutes into a video game or after maybe 2 hours of just browsing and stuff. I went to a place to get it checked  and they told me it was because of the charger, etc etc. Now I bought a new charger and it's still the same, it charges (even though the battery icon says it's on 84% and doesn't move from there) but it suddenly just stops charging after a while again. The problem with it not charging is that my laptop gets extremely laggy and only lasts about 1 minute before it shuts down.Is it the battery? Please tell me there's another solution... Batteries are expensive. The reason I added so much detail to this question is because I don't want to leave anything out. Thanks

I have an HP DV6000 CTO laptop with an AMD processor. It came preinstalled with Vista. Vista does not suit my needs, because it sucks. In any case, I decided to wipe it and install XP.

When I tried to install XP, the installation kept crashing at various points in the install. Sometimes it would crash right away, other times it would get all the way to the point where it had copied the files, and was beginning the actual installation. And when it "crashes", what it does is it powers off the computer.

I did a little research, and determined that the problem was likely that I had an SATA drive installed, and XP didn't recognize it well enough to complete the install. If I had the Intel version of this notebook, there is apparenlty an option to disable SATA in the BIOS, but on AMD machines, there is no such option. So I was advised to use "F6" during the install of XP to install a third party driver. I downloaded the XP driver for the SATA drive, and tried to install.

However, I quickly learned that, when installing XP, the only way to install a thrid party driver is with a floppy drive, which the computer doesn't have. Searching for a workaround, I found several programs that claimed to be able to integrate my new chipset drivers with the XP install, but none of them worked. I still had the same problem - the XP installation would simply shut the computer down at various points in the install. Could it really be impossible to install XP on this c... Read more

I have been working on a friends computer, a HP Pavilion DV6000 for a couple weeks now and have no idea what is wrong with it. The story I was informed of is that for about a year or so it was working more or less fine but recently (the past couple months) there had been some weird things the computer would do for a while then it increased over time so she gave up on it and gave it to me. When I got it it booted perfectly fine, I was even able to install some updates, the computer is running Vista Home Premium. When I shut it down for the night and booted it up the next day it did what she had described to me. When you hit the power button all the lights on the keyboard will light up but the main screen is totally blank and after about 30 seconds the power/lights shut off and about 5 seconds later it turns itself back on. And it did that every time after that. I thought the hard drive might be messed up but I had a spare around so that wasn't the problem. So I took it apart since I had heard from friends they had similar issues in which either the heat sync was messed up or the CPU was knocked loose for some reason. So I checked the CPU and it was locked in fine and there wasn't any thermal paste on the CPU so I put some on thinking that might do it but it didn't do anything. When I put it all back together I booted it up and it actually started but the BiOS had reset itself and there were some errors with the time and something else so I went in and fixed them... A:HP DV6000 Laptop Issue

So after consulting with some people it seems as though it is an issue with the BiOS. I was told either I had to replace the BiOS chip (unlikely to do) or replace the entire motherboard (most likely). And while I know the chances or fixing this without replacing anything is minimal, if anyone knows of a way around replacing things then that would be great news.

When turning on this HP DV6000 Laptop, I keep getting a black screen while all the led lights go on as normal.
I tried to put an Operating System disk to format but on booting, nothing comes on screen.

All help appreciated

A:HP Laptop dv6000 - Black Screen when turned on

Do you usually get a bios screen? or did it used to boot straight into windows? If you did get a bios screen do you get that now? If not sounds like a problem with the monitor connections/monitor itself. If you never taken a laptop apart i'd advise getting it professional repaired.

So basically like the title says, I can't charge the laptop, I know the charger works though because I tried it another laptop that's the exact same as mine and it works on the other laptop but not mine, is there any inexpensive way I can fix it?

If not then can someone guide me through how to transfer the data over to another laptop?

Thanks!

A:Can't charge laptop, how do I fix or how do I transfer data over to a new laptop?

To transfer data, remove the disk and connect it to the other laptop using an adapter such as this or put it in an enclosure.

Once connected, the laptop will see the HDD as a removable storage and you can click and drag files from one to the other.

I've got a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT250P laptop that I just recently got a new battery for. The old battery had reached the end of its life, only lasting for about 30-45 minutes if I was lucky.

Anyway, I got a new battery, but it was not the original Sony battery, it was a comparable one of a different brand for less then half of the price of the Sony. When charged, it lasts a good 2 hours no problem, but doesn't seem to charge when the laptop is off. Yesterday I turned it on, it said it had 5% remainng, I charged it for about 10 minutes and then it read 94%. Upon unplugging it, it again read 5%, but with another 10 minutes plugged it, it went up to 94% and stayed there when unplugged. I should also note that I've reformatted the computer, so it only has Sony drivers that the device manager said I lacked.

Was the lower priced battery too good to be true, or is there an easy fix to this problem?

Appreciate the help in advance,
Zach

A:Laptop Battery Doesn't Charge if Laptop is off

a bios update is often needed when using a different battery than what the laptop was designed to use, and since you bought a generic battery, i highly doubt that Sony will provide support of any kind for it.

Check Ebay for actual Sony brand batteries (not another generic), you can get them on Ebay for 1/2 (or less) the price that you would pay in a store or from Sony
