Solved: Wireless Doesn't Work! What driver do I need?

Q: Solved: Wireless Doesn't Work! What driver do I need?

Hey guys,

Yesterday I formatted and reinstalled windows Vista on my new Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. I've gone through the whole driver CD, installed everything there, but wireless still doesn't work! It doesn't find any networks. I realize that the drivers CD just has the default 1720 drivers, so some things might be different (for example, the default video card is 8400, but mine has an 8600, and the driver for that isn't on the CD). Perhaps I require a different wireless driver?

If that is the case, how do I know which one I have and where to get the propoer driver for it?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Got a new tablet pc. Put in a new hard drive and installed vista ultimate x64. Works great. I was suprised how much smoother it runs.

The 11a/b/g/n wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter isn't recognized by vista. My friend said it might be a problem because it doesn't work with 64 bit software. Went through the long process of installing vista 32 bit version. Same thing. It was recognized by vista.

So now here I am with 64 bit vista installed again. I downloaded a couple drivers that it could be from lenovo website. It still didn't work.

Before I started this whole project I went to the microsoft upgrade site to check compatability. While running XP, the site said that I would have to download the wireless lan driver and install it after i installed vista. It also said the fingerprint reader would need to be manually installed but I don't care about that.

Any suggestions?

My problem is that I cannot access the internet through my LAC. I enable the connection and it will connect and send packets, but will not receive any packets. I have no problems enabling my wireless connection and connecting to the internet. The wireless does like to disconnect and reconnect about 3 or 4 times an hour which is another problem I have. I believe this LAC problem started around the same time I was trying to get shared music between my computers on iTunes. I was trying to allow for connection on port 3689, but everything I did was unsuccessful. Any suggestions for any of these problems I'm having?

I have a D-Link DWL-520 V. E1 wireless card and want to install it in a computer running Windows XP. D-Link does not give technical support for this card but does have the driver for download on their website.
I downloaded the driver for WinXP and clicked the setup icon to install and it installed the Utility program but never produced the screen to install drivers like the manual says it should. Is anyone familiar with this and know why I can't install the driver? The utility does me no good if the driver is not installed.

My wireless adapter connects fine when my pc boots except if I try to download a large file or run a full screen program that uses connection, the adapter stops working and won't detect any networks, if I try to configure it when it doesn't com will turn itself off and turn back on. I downloaded a newer driver, resetted my router, but the problem is still there.

here's my problem, as near as I can tell,

a few months ago the wireless connection on my hp laptop stopped "seeing" my wireless network. Eventually, during a scan with my panda security system a virus was found (for some reason it is no longer in the logs-but is was, I think, trojan or sasser in my outlook folders-and it was deleted). The wireless seemed to work again but then went back to being "invisible" to my wireless detector on the laptop. I went to HP downloads to see if I could just update the "driver" and ended up updating "system bios" which seemed to work also, for a while, then the system goes back to not seeing the wireless. I could sometimes do the right-click "repair" option to get it to connect but that stops working after a while. I think that there is still some residual virus lurking in the system to cause this problem so that is why I am posting here. Thanks for any help you can give

I am not exactly sure if this is where I attach the dds.txt text but will put it here just in case:

I have Win 7 and Win 8 dual booting on my brand new Dell Vostro laptop. The wireless works beautifully while using Win 7, but when I switch to Win 8... the actual Fn+F2 wireless switch has no effect whatsoever!! So I know the machine is OK, the network is OK, but what could be making the machine act differently under Windows 8??? Device manager and details say the driver is up to date.. What do I look for next?? I don't think I'm going to be able to get a call through to Microsoft!!

Ok, so I've re-installed Windows XP (SP2) and after it booted up, I noticed that my onboard ethernet adapter wasn't recognised. So I went and downloaded the appropriate drivers ( from the mobo's official site (it's a PCChips M848A mobo) but when I try to install the drivers, it still says that the hardware isn't functional (Code 1).

I've tried many different versions of SiS900 drivers but it simply won't work.

When I tried the setup.exe file that came with the official driver, the install would say "Update Driver for PnP Device Fail. Setup will exit".

That's when I simply forwarded the windows hardware installer to an XP folder i found in the zip file. But still, it doesn't work.

I really need help on this matter. Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Maybe it's worth mentioning that I re-installed WinXP over an existing windows partition without formatting it. I simply deleted the former windows installation files.

Hi Guys,

I have a win7 desktop upstairs with all of my media on it. I also have a winXP laptop that I would like to use as a media center running xbmc connected to my tv downstairs. I have set up a workgroup so my laptop can access the media stored on my desktop and everything works great when they are both hardwired to my router (Linksys E3000). However, as soon as I unplug my laptop from my router and switch to the wireless connection I can no longer ping my desktop or access the shared folder (internet still works fine on the laptop, it just cant see my desktop anymore). If I plug it back in to the router, everything works again.

I have checked a lot of forums but haven't found anyone who really seems to be having the exact same issue as me. This one seems to be the closest I can find however I tried most of the solutions mentioned there without any luck. I would love some fresh ideas if you have any, very close to just saying forget it and buying a new router (if that is even the issue but it's all I can think of).

The exact error message I get when I try to access the shared folder is "\\INFINITY\Media is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Thanks for any help, laptop specs are below.

Dear all,

I thought I have met this problem before before my two wireless adapters both stopped working.

My case is a little different from those I found on this forum.

1. When I upgraded my thinkpad x200 to win7 64bit, I don't have "Wireless Network Connection", but I fixed it by stopping one setting of Kaspersky and it came back, so when I first found my PCI-E wireless didn't work, I thought the same thing happened, although I didn't remember the details, I tried the Kaspersky, don't work.

2. I updated the drivers, uninstall-install, start-stop-start WLAN AutoConfig... I have done a lot that can be searched on line, never worked for me.

3. Tragedy happened, I adjusted several common options on BIOS, then after several tries I made to make 5300 work, USB wireless died Don't know how to recover it, and back to my laptop again.

Could anyone here help me out? Really appreciate it! I have spent two days on this stuff, if no one can do this, I guess the only way is to reinstall the OS, that's the least thing I want to do.

PS: Unavailable wireless adapters have all zero Mac addresses, also can't be found in control panel.

I recently bought a C.D. and wanted to upload it to iTunes and put it on my iPod, but it would not load. I thought, "Oh, it must have a security thing." So I tried it in a C.D. player. It worked. I tried once more with the computer, and it failed. The driver shows up. But there is no C.D. I even tried another C.D. to see if it was just the one I had bought, but it wasn't. Any ideas?

A:My CD Driver doesn't want to work.

Hi lol_alex_lol30 and welcome to TSF

I can help you with some basics, but you will need to check further to get all the data you need, as I don't upload to iTunes.

I'm assuming you bought an audio CD. I'm also assuming that iTunes would like to see MP3 audio files....You will need to find that out. This though, is true. When you burn an audio CD from music files, those files are most likely in the form of WAV on your harddrive. They are burned onto the CD with a .cda extension and are named track 1, track 2, etc. The song names are not shown on the CD if you view it with Windows Explorer.

Extracting songs from an audio CD to harddrive is called ripping the song. Songs end up on your harddrive in the form of "songname.wav". songname will be Track1, Track2, etc. and you will have to rename each to have the actual song title associated with the song. WAV files are quite large and about 24 songs is the maxium that you can burn onto an audio CD.

Mpeg level 3 (MP3) is a compression specification that can be used to make much smaller audio files. A 20,000,000 (20 meg) WAV file will compress into a MP3 file that is about 2 meg or less. A file that is 10 to 11 times smaller than the WAV file. I'm sure you can appreciate the fact that small files upload much faster than very large ones. Also you can put about 240 mp3 files on a CD, but only about 24 wav files. You could also appreciate that your ear can't tell the difference between the sound of... Read more

I?ve got some problem with my W-LAN device. Recently I?ve got a strange feeling about it because some things didn?t work correctly, so I decided to reinstall the driver. It didn?t work directly (I don?t know why), so I tried to uninstall it first, to install it again. Now I got this message:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

An update for the latest driver was useless because I already got the latest one. I tried both installing it from the device manager several times, which failed everytime with this message to come, and by the driver setup (there is a folder available on my computer with all drivers installed on it), which seemed not to have any effect, although it said "Installation complete". Has anyone a solution for me?
I?m going to reinstall my Windows soon, but it?ll take some weeks to that. But until that, I need my W-LAN to work again!
I?ve got Win 7 Home Premium 32bit, my W-LAN device is a Broadcom 802.11g, my notebook is a Lenovo G550.

Thanks for any help, Bennington

In Windows 7, I am trying to figure out if I have any faulty drivers. I have been having BSODs for a while, and I've removed RAM etc. So the next step was to test drivers.

But I can't run Driver Verifier. No matter which drivers I select, the Driver Verifier causes a blue screen as the windows 7 logo starts to come together. I have to clear the settings in Safe mode to get it back.

Is there any way to fix this, or any other way to check my drivers?

(My most recent BSODs have said caused by dxgmms1.sys and tcpip.sys -- lots of IRQL_not_less_or_equal and system_thread_exception_not_handled.)

A:Driver Verifier Doesn't Work...

The purpose of Driver Verifier is to cause a Blue Screen of Death.
Analysis of the memory dump files will then (if it's worked) let the analyst know what driver caused it.

You'll know this because there will be a Driver Verifier Enabled memory dump.

FWIW - I had a system at work today that would spit out the IRQL error messages, but not the Driver Verifier Enabled error messages. I finally enabled all settings in Driver Verifier and then rebooted. An hour and a half later the system was still booting with the Windows 7 splash screen.

The point here is that the settings that you use in Driver Verifier are critical - and are determined by the type of BSOD events you are getting (for example, if you have BAD_POOL_CALLER errors, then you want to enable the POOL checking options in Driver Verifier).

Please zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory and upload/attach the .zip file to your next post.

MY problems after installing nvidia driver
1. It runs well before showing the start up window (welcome window where I have to entry my password)
2. But when I run the windows in safe mode it works perfectly

Hi rx123yz. Your issue sounds like that Windows have installed its own drivers over new ones that you installed. Remove all the old drivers and use Driver Sweeper. This little software removes all the bits of the old drivers. Below is the link to download the S/W. Before uninstalling the old drivers, download the latest drivers for your card from Sevenforums or from Nvidia site and install them after uninstalling and sweeping off the old drivers with driver sweeper.

I've been having some problems with my ethernet for the past few days. The computers hooked up to wireless routers are fine, so it's not a problem within the computer. However, when I hook up an ethernet cable to the modem, there's a "limited to no connectivity" message on my computer, and when i click to repair it mentions something about the IP adress. My Xbox 360, which is also dependent with the ethernet cable, says basically the same thing when i run tests on that. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Sometimes you have to install the HP wireless manager crapware in order to turn it off in its Preferences so you can use Win7's superior wireless manager from the bottom-right System tray.

But first try rightclicking the System Tray Network connection icon to Troubleshoot, choosing wireless adapter. If that doesn't work correctly, go into Control Panel>Network/Sharing Center>Change adapter settings to rightclick on Wireless adapter to Troubleshoot. If it doesn't appear install its driver from the HP Support Downlloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

I first off want to apologize if this is in the wrong place. I had searched around and read the website and found a similar problem posted in this section of the forum so I figured I'd try my luck here and apologize if I'm going about this the wrong way. I'd like to tell you I'm not to computer savvy but will be trying my best as I am very frustrated and ready to send my computer away to get fixed but will lose all I have on it and have no computer for teaching. I thought it was my wireless card and was ready to buy a new one. But wanted to check here first. My internet works when I plug it into the wireless modem via ethernet cord. Things are progressing to interupt the internet though, AIM will not work anymore, and it somehow downgraded my flash viewer on websites and will not let me download the lastest version. When I start the computer it gives me two error messages.

1. synTPEnh.exe - application error - this application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). click ok to terminate application

2. RunDLL - error loading c:/windows/system32/NvCpl.dll

The Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium

Again thank you for any help you can offer... even if it's just letting me know If its a virus or I need a new wireless internet card.

It says it can see the router so i click yes, you can connect even though its not secure, but it won't do it. it just pops up again saying wireless connections available. is there some settings i don't have setup right on this computer? it works on my others and it appears all the settings are the same. could it be the wireless network card? but it does see the signal it just can't connect. please help!

Everything functioned just fine and then one day I turned on the computer and the wireless is turned off and can not be turned on. The switch remains amber and in Control Panel wireless on/off is greyed out and can not even be selected. I found several things on-line regarding this problem but none with a solution that worked. Hello. I have Radeon HD 3850 AGP and Win7, and I tried to do almost everything ...
I installed 9.12 drivers, 9.12 drivers with adding CL_91526 from the topic above), 9.11 drivers, 9.11 drivers with Hotfix (ATI), 9.11 drivers with adding CL_91526, manual driver install by right click . Absolutely no changes and everytime the same ... During and after installing (before reboot) no changes in Device Manager, having "ATI Radeon 3850 " (or "ATI Radeon 3800 series" or something like that...) with yellow triangle and Microsoft Co. driver. And after reboot no changes with it, an error message with something like "Driver didn't install correctly, please install proper driver" ( though in ATI install log you can see that everything was installed succesfully). So after reboot I still see my VGA like "ATI Radeon 3800 series" with Microsoft driver and of course no changes in monitor resolution and all. If I try to delete microsoft driver (and device), and then install radeon drivers , during installation I absolutely just don't have any VGA in Device manager. And after reboot Win7 "finds" VGA and install from internet microsoft driver, so I can see "ATI Radeon HD 3850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.1)" in Device Manager.

I think that radeon drivers don't install (or don't install correctly), and Win7 ignores (or doesn't see) them.

Please help... Maybe I do something wrong ?...

A:Radeon HD 3850 AGP, driver doesn't work.

Welcome to seven forums AngieM: Unfortunately you have a pretty old system a socket 478 board I would suggest first off to use 32 git seven and try the method in this thread to try and get your driver to install. Not every systems hardware is up to running windows seven Install AGP Drivers for HD 3850, 3650, 2400 PRO This is the only method I know of that will install the agp driver, Are you sure you are following the directions EXACTLY the way they are written and installing form device manager? If so then it is possible your system may just be to outdated to run win 7 Sorry to tell you but?. Fabe I wanted to add you might want to uninstall the driver then use driver sweeper to make sure all remnants of the previous driver are removerd before trying again

The problem started a few days ago, Sunday I believe. Anyway started up laptop and could not connect to internet. Looked up Device manager and the wireless card had a yellow triangle with a ! in it. Assumed I had done something so went to System Restore and set a point. There was a warning, however, after it finished stating the Restore did not complete and gave options to do it again.

The curious thing was I had wireless internet, despite it stating the System Restore was unsuccessful. Closed the LT and started it back up. No internet. Ran SR again and again it notified me it was not successful, but I again had wireless internet.

I ran every test possible for the network and internet. The result was "no connections available. Plug in an Ethernet cable." I have internet with cable. tried to update the card's driver and it says I have the latest driver. One of the Intel tests said something about the digital certificate.

Ran all your tests and am at your mercy looking for guidance...thanks.

Hi there, I am not seeing malware in any of those logs. I suggest you post in the software/networking forum.
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

We have optimum online internet. We were given the modem and also a router as well to use. Its the netgear n600 router. We also have VOIPO phone service as well connected as we need internet on or the voipo won't work.

I have noticed that the wifi sometimes would not work. I could not connect to it. But those times that it does work, it would have some very short disconnects like a few seconds then it would go back to connected.

However when i put an ethernet cable to it and thus a wired connection from the laptops, rarely is there any issue with the internet. There might be a short disconnect for a bit but i haven't noticed it yet.

Is there a reason for this? We put the router in the 2nd floor in this house and we basically put it on top of a very short table. Basically its placed about 1 feet over that little table... that little table also has the modem and our cordless phone and thus the voipo.

I know location of the router is important but could putting it a bit too low like just 1 feet above the floor be a cause of this?

Could it be the router issue itself as i read many routers would disconnect throughout the day? I did check online and i did read a few ppl mention this about this router.

Optimum online gave us this router to use while we signed up for their cable internet service only. Thus if we cancel the service we have to return it back to them. Has anyone here used this router and ca... Read more

So we have to used a wired connection with an ethernet cable for one of the other computers. The asus one can't connect wifi so i want to use that, i have to do wired.

Hi, I have a HP G71-329WM running Windows 7 and I believe it recently updated windows via windows update. I attempted to turn on my computer and it would not boot, freezing on the start up screen. I managed to resolve this initial problem by going through safe mode and doing a system restore to a previous state. However, the laptop now boots up but does not recognize any networks and the wireless adapter cannot be recognised, meaning it only connections VIA ethernet cable. I have tried re-installing the drivers for the wireless adapter but this has not resolved the issue. Short of re-formatting (which I really don't want to do) I'm lost for how this can be resolved. Any ideas?!

I do not understand this. I've been buying and returning 'defective' wireless devices for my media center for the last few months. I bought a logitech wireless mouse (v220) a few days ago and it works on my E6410, E6510, Thinkpad T500, NC6230, and custom amd gaming machine.

However, on the machine it is intended for use on, it does not work. It seems to work fine (as far as I can tell) in windows. In media center, bridge, firefox, ect... it just doesn't work. You move the mouse, nothing happens, or it moves very spotty.

I just cannot think of anything that could be causing this. I've tried removing all unnecessary devices, I even disabled the wifi on the off chance that was causing interference.

Has anyone had an issue like this before?

A:Wireless mouse doesn't work... on ONE computer

This might sound stupid, but people often overlook the simple things. Have you tried in different USB ports on the machine they tend not to work on?

You are showing 2 DHCP servers on your network, both trying to
set IP's for the network and causing conflicts.
You need to disable DHCP on the computer with this IP: and let the router handle DHCP.
Run the network setup wizard on that computer and select connects
through a LAN or residential gateway.
That should turn it off.

Shucks.. just received this today and it doesn't work for squat. I'm trying to get my wireless controller to work on my 64x vista with the receiver. I've installed the necessary driver and software as well. Think I can get this working? Or do I just have to buy a wired controller, assuming that even works.

The USB is connected directly to the mob, so it's not power related. I've restarted and disconnected all other usb connections. Also those little signal buttons don't help either.

Again I'm hearing this a common problem. Either because my pc can't pump out enough power for it, even though it's high end. Or there are driver conflicts between the receiver and any logitech mouse/keyboards.

The Stylus Pro 7600 is now a really old printer, the last supported driver was for XP but it worked in Windows 7 and I believe to some extent in 8 although I never did try it.

It s a really good reliable large format printer though and very affordable in parts, ink and the second-hand purchase price.

However alas Windows 10 doesn't like it, I did the upgrade to 10 (and then the downgrade) from windows 7 but it will not see the driver it sees the device but calls it a USB high speed device or something like that and compatibility mode didn't seem to help.

So unless there is a clever work around and I'd love that to happen I'm stuck on Windows 7 for the duration.

Suggestions welcome.

These are for the dye-based version. I didn't look to see whether the Ultrachrome based one uses different drivers.

Hi there!
I just got my new Asus Vivobook s400ca running Win8.1, a few weeks ago.
It really runs great, although I managed to find one problem. Since this is a laptop without a detachable screen,
I didn't really find any good reason for having the touch keyboard toolbar () in my task bar, since I was pretty sure I'd never need it. So I disabled the keyboard, which worked out fine but the toolbar was still there.

I then went on to try to remove it by using one of EightForum's .reg files for that purpose.

This did, as described, remove the toolbar, but apparantly it stopped the mouse pad driver as well, even though the mouse pad itself basically works. (no gestures or scrolling though.)

As you can see here, There's no driver running.

And in the ASUS hub, it's also impossible to turn it on. It just keeps saying it's off.

So I decided to use another .reg file that I found with the initial one, that should basically just rollback the effect that the other one had, but to no avail.

It just made the toolbar come back.
So I don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Also, if there is anyone who knows what to do about that toolbar, please do tell! [:

Thanks in advance! [:

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Hi all,

I had consistent problems with Limited Access and losing connection in general on my one-year-old Samsung laptop. After trying various fixes, with none of them working as needed, I eventually decided to try to uninstall the wireless device, as suggested here. And following the described procedure I expected the device to reinstall after reboot and to have wireless access once again, whether that solved the mentioned problem or not. Procedure was: Device Manager > Select device (Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter) > Right click "uninstall" and the device was removed.

However, after Windows installed available drivers after startup (v10.0.250 or something of sort), I couldn't connect to home wireless network. Check the Image-1 to see the dialog box in lower right. I updated the drivers to the latest ones I could find, even before uninstalling, but it didn't help. I pulled out a cable, connected and right now I'm ~7 hours total searching for a fix and I finally decided to come to you all as there's nothing I could find to fix it myself. Below are some info that might be relevant.

I would try and go to samsung's support site and see if you can find updated drivers for the device. If that does not do anything for ya; I would contact samsung directly and see what they may be able to do to help.

Is there something you can do to get them working? There is a section on where you click more and I guess that's probably where it said no remote. It sure wasn't made obvious-like in bold or something. He definitely intended to trick me. You have to completely read everything with people like that around. Not to mention, it wasn't even cheap.

Has your notebook ?factory settings? or you have changed something?
Have you installed own operating system or notebook still has original preinstalled operating system?
Is WLAN card installed and listed properly in device manager?

WLAN usage is so simple and by ?default? it must work properly. The same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks same. When you want to use WLAN you must move WLAN switch to position ON and use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card. That?s all.

What you can try is to reinstall Value added package?

Started from scratch. Everything works great on the computer after I downloaded all of the drivers I am pretty sure the computer needed, except the wireless internet. Both of us being college students that is kind of a need. When I go to network connections there isn't an option for wireless network which is where I get thrown when I look at any "hold my hand and walk me through so I can get on the net" tutorial. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need to poke fun of my lack of PC knowledge that is just fine too. Thank you again.

How do I switch from wireless to wired networking?

If my laptop is off, I plug in my network cable and switch the wireless radio off, Windows starts fine and I can reach the internet.
If I turn on the radio and unplug the network cable, I can still reach the internet.

If I plug the cable back in and switch off the wireless radio, Windows can't find any networks.

The only way to use a wired network is to plug in the cable and restart Vista. Why is that? How do I fix it?

A:Switching from wireless to wired networking doesn't work

I cannot tell you why, however you can run with both connected at the same time. The wired will take over the connection. That's what happens on my laptop
I have just experimented replicating what you have described and mine works.
Question, are you giving it time to reconnect? I tried mine three times and each time it took about one minute or more to reconnect.

Hi I am new here and I need help. I can normally figure out things for myself but this problem has got me stumped. I have an issue with the modem(s) I am using. My network has a modem (from AT&T uverse ) with a Cisco router connected to it through a wired connection and everything in the house connected wirelessly to it except my desktop. Yesterday I was disconnected from the Internet but all the lights on the modem were still green. I lost both wired and wireless connection. I tried the normal reset of the modem and it didn't help. All lights green. No internet connection. So I tried to connect to the wireless signal from the modem and I was able to connect to the Internet. So logic would dictate that if the wireless signal in the modem works and anything connected through wires ( wireless router, desktop) doesn't, then the modem would be bad. So I just happen to have another modem, exact same make and model. I connect it thinking this would surely fix the problem and it's the same problem, nothing is changed. Wireless works, wired doesn't. So now I'm stumped. I don't know what else it could be. It might be possible both modems are bad and have the same problem since it's the same brand and model but I want to explore all possibilities before I call AT&T and deal with their lousy service.

I recently switched over to Comcast for internet and have an xfinity router. The wifi works perfectly on all computers and devices except one. It's not working on a large desktop that uses a TP-Link wireless card. When I try to connect to the internet from Firefox on this computer, it just says "Connecting..." on the top of the tab for a while and eventually goes to a "Server not found" page.

Every now and then, usually after I try something random to fix it (such as turning on "SoftAP mode" on the TP-Link card) the internet will work for a few seconds, but then it stops again.

(Sorry if I didn't put enough information in here; tell me if you need to know anything else.)

I purchased a dell 15r (N5010), and have had it for about 3 days. It is a core i3 2.27Ghz, 4Gb RAM. I did a clean install of the OS to get rid of all the bloatware. I then downloaded the respective drivers from the dell website and the resource CD that came with the laptop. After the clean OS install i started having problems with my connection. The computer will not connect to the wireless connection in my room which is very close to the router, and it will say "Windows was unable to to connect to "xxxx" The thing is that other computers in the house all work with the wireless and are farther away from the router. Also my sisters computer which is a 10.1 Asus netbook connects better to the internet than my $900 one. I can only connect to the internet when I am not in my room, but the thing is, is that even my iPhone works in my room. Also i previously had a desktop computer with a wireless adapter and it would work on my room. All the drivers are updated and theres no problems on the device manager, what could be causing this? Its really annoying me that I can't connect to the internet on my room when any computer can even my iphone or a 10.1 Asus netbook, even when I move it into my room.

Hello, i have an ASUS X55VD and the wireless adapter isn't working anymore. I tried troubleshooting, reinstalling the ASUS drivers (Ralink and Atheros drivers), uninstalling and uninstalling & deleting the driver from device manager. I tried uninstalling the antivirus (ESET SS 8). The wired connection is working fine.

How it started giving errors: I left it in Sleep mode for 2 days, unplugged. After this i did a restart and the wireless adapter was off. I turned it on using the Wireless Console 3 (provided by the laptop CD from ASUS), the wireless LED stays constant ON, although in Network and Sharing center, the wireless connection is Disabled. Re-enabling it from there it just says Enabling... -> Enabled but it still remains Disabled. After this i started applying the fixes mentioned above. Whenever i start the laptop now the Wireless is disabled and i don't know what else to try.

I'm trying to add a Canon imageCLASS MF7470 printer to my laptop. When I plug it into the USB, Windows 7 detects it, but as unspecified. It says no driver is installed. When I do a Windows update it comes up with other imageCLASS models but not the one I have. I've tried going thru these threads to locate my options but nothing works. When I go to add printer, properties is as far as I can go cause the only tabs I get there are general and hardware. This is a work printer for a jobsite, so of course the disk has been lost at some point, but I need this running ASAP.

Here is the driver page for Canon, just specify your OS, download drivers, install and go at it could be that MS just doesn't provide them. However Canon does for both 32 and 64 bit.

Hi all.
I've just recently purchased a generic wireless mouse from eBay.
more specifically, this one: 2.4GHz USB Receiver Wireless Optical Mouse F PC Laptop | eBay
it doesn't work. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and it started installing the drivers, first it was installing "HID Wireless Mouse", then it switched to "USB Input Device" but failed after 3 seconds. now it's listed in Device Manager as "USB Input Device" with yellow sign that indicates it doesn't work.
I tested it in 2 other Windows 7 32bit computers and it works just fine! installing drivers and everything.
moreover - I testes my bro's logitech wireless mouse on my 64bit Windows 7 computer and it works fine.
I think Windows fails on recognizing it. I mean the drivers are there.. the Logitech Mouse works but mine doesn't.. how do I make it work?

P.S. here are 3 attached images: - my win 7 64bit device manager with the problematic mouse - different win 7 32bit computer with the problematic mouse working - my win 7 64bit device manager with the logitech wireless mouse

Hi. I formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.
I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.
Can someone help me here? I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. Can someone help me on this? The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb. Could that be a reason?

Hello Dynamite, My name is Dusty, and hopefully I am able to help you out some.

Do you have windows updated? Also, Windows update can check for drivers automatically.

Do you have a LAN driver and wireless adapter driver installed? If windows update doesn't find them, look them up on your motherboard's manufacturer's website and your adapter's manfacturer's website, respectively.

Alright, I had the same problem yesterday that so far two other people have had. I my computer starts getting little popups in the system trey saying the computer is infected, and spysherrif and virusaxe automatically download. I ran everything I had in safemode, as well as smitrem. There were 4 registry items that ewido could not remove though, it kept getting an error.

+ Scan result:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEvents -> Spyware.VirtuMonde : Error during cleaning
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEvents\CLSID -> Spyware.VirtuMonde : Error during cleaning
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEvents\CurVer -> Spyware.VirtuMonde : Error during cleaning
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MSEvents.MSEvents.1 -> Spyware.VirtuMonde : Error during cleaning

The spyware seems to be gone now, but when I restart the computer ewido still pops up trying to remove a couple objects. Now I have another problem. When I'm connected with my wireless internet, nothing works; whenever I try to visit a site it says teh remote server could not be found. My backup dial-up connection works, which is what I'm on now.

I downloaded Win7 x86 drivers for our Ricoh Aficio MP 171 from Ricoh, to load them onto a machine freshly updated from XP to Win 7. Every time i try to install them, Windows tells me the default driver it chose is the best one and won't install it. The driver it is using does squat, the printer was working fine when it was connected to XP, now the most we have gotten out of it is a few pages of jibberish when we tried to print a photo.

I have tried manually installing the driver from the device manager, i tell it to use a folder on the desktop where i copied the driver, but when i press next it immediately says the driver being used is up to date. I tried telling it to read from a dvd i burned the driver folder on to, it doesn't like that either.

I am toying with the idea of deleting the default driver from system32 (but copying it first to a data key), disconnecting from the 'net, and then installing the one from Ricoh.

Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance- I don't know much about computers.
A few days ago, I shut the lid of my Hp Dv6 6108us laptop (running windows 7 home premium 64 bit) and when I opened it later, the Wi-Fi button was lit amber, signaling that it was turned off. I pressed it again to turn it on, but nothing changed. Since this has happened once or twice before (I didn't think too much of it) I just restarted the laptop, which usually got the light back to blue (=working Wifi). Nothing changed over several reboots.
So I did some googling.
My driver is a RAlink rt5390 802.11 b/g/n adapter

I've tried a hard reset
I've tried going into the registry, disabled WLAN AutoConfig and restarted.

I tried changing the power settings so the wifi wouldn't turn off during sleep mode, but it acted as if I had no wireless driver. Troubleshoot did nothing but suggest I use an ethernet cable.
I've uninstalled (then reinstalled after it didn't help) HP connection manager.
I did a system restore to before the problem occurred.
I finally found the device in device manager after doing the "show non present devices=1" in the registry.

I have setup a Static IP address through Windows XP, and I am trying to forward ports to my Xbox 360 (to avoid Strict NAT settings). The problem right now is that I cannot access my routers set up page.

I am using a D-Link WBR-2310, which is not installed on the PC, but runs a password-protected wireless network. I have run IPconfig, and have obtained the IP address and Default Gateway. When I type either in my Web Browser (tried Firefox/IE) I am led to my DSL modem's setup page and not my wireless router.

I have tried every IP address possible (from the default router address to the IPconfig) and I cannot access my wireless router setup. Through the D-Link website, I have also tried to use an emulator, but I am unable to make any changed regarding Port Forwarding. Once again, my wireless router is not installed, and the installation is not working because "The router is not detected- Error 322"

I have been trying to solve this problem for the past 4 hours with no luck so I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance

The driver is 802.11 bg WLAN in the Device Manager it shows as 'Other Devices' Ive unistalled and reinstalled many times, Still have this problem

Is there a fix for this?

A:Reformatted Windows Vista Wireless Driver Dont Work

Windows likely doesn't have the drivers.

In any case, ALL of the drivers needed should be on the Dell website. Simply search using your service tag # (unless you've changed the OS from how it shipped).
