I have a new Sony vaio, with internet explorer 8. Evertime I'm on the internet my text size keeps changing. How do I fix this? The tab on the bottom screen has no lock to keep it at the same size. This is driving me crazy!!

A:text size keeps changing

Open your browser. Select text size and close the browser. On re-opening size should hold.

Windows 7 64-bit
I can adjust the display so it's large enough to read everything but the text. For instance, now have it set at 150% of normal and the title of this post is large but what I'm typing now is so small it's barely readable. MUCH smaller than 10-point.

There is a way to customize the display, but anything more than 150% is so large it overflows my wide-screen monitor. Surely there must be a choice between way too large and way too small, but I can't find it.

A message on my screen now says to run TSG Sysinfo, for information helpful in solving this problem. Last time I downloaded something similar, here, I ended up with a $40 Uniblue program on my computer that I had to fight like crazy to stop invading my world. I never got my money back, either. It would help to know what "TSG Sysinfo" is, before I commit to running it.

Thanks,
Bahb

Hey all, sometimes when I enter the TSG site my text size changes. One minute the text is the size I have it set to and then when I go to a different thread it will get larger. At times if I hit the refresh button it goes back to the right size and sometimes it doesnt. I ran ccleaner but it does not make any difference. I have tried firefox(3.6) in safe mode but no difference there. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this also. It is only the TSG site that this happens on.

I have had this happen occasionally as well but have not come up with a solution yet.

A very non-computer savvy woman asked why the text size changes (sometimes to large or very large and sometimes to small or very small) while she is typing on her netbook with XP. She says it happens in both her browser (Chrome) and her word processor (MS Works). She also is running Google Desktop. I did not see any utitlities or other unusual software. She says it is random but she thinks she might be brushing against the touchpad when it happens. Any guesses what she is doing? (She was going to try to show me but her battery died.)

If the touch pad is setup with a Scroll Zone, pressing CTRL+ScrollZone is same as CTRL+Wheel on the mouse, and will change text size in many applications. If they use keyboard shortcuts a lot like CTRL+C and CTRL+V that might explain it. You can disable the scroll zones in Control Panel | Mouse/Touchpad to see if that stops it.

A:Internet Explorer Text Size Keep Changing

Hi chaosbreaker

I placed the font size button on the toolbar which makes it easier than using View>TextSize>Size.

As to why the font changes sizes every so often...I don't have a better answer except maybe it depends on the phase of the moon.

Have you tried pressing the Shift key while exiting the last browser to retain your settings?

Hey guys,

As the subject says the text size is huge in windows, regardless of windows prefs or teh View -> Text Size option... they're huge and barely readable... just a lot of other problems. Removed a few entries from regedit & msconfig, there were two listings found that looked like a lot of squares and o's as the name, the path was in HLCU/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT or something like that... I removed them as well.

Microsoft Antispyware didn't find anything which I found odd, but she ran AdAware occasionally so that is good... here's the log:

I don't know how much this will help but I see you have a nVidia graphics card. Have you tried updating the drivers to the card? If you did is that when the trouble started? If so try getting a different driiver for the card.

Other than dogging the print preview, and struggling with the size in any pertinent image editing software, has anyone found a reliable way to limit or control the size of a printed web document?
to wit:
I scanned an odd shaped document, 3x8" to email to myself at another site, and the printed form was big enough for two pages. What a waste.
I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve paper...it'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

I'll start out here by stating a problem I finally solved and then my question:

For months now I've been fighting that my hardware cursor disappears in World of Warcraft on my home theater system and time I switch modes to full screen and sometimes even in windowed mode and the reason for this is apparently due to me setting my display text size to 150% or 125%. I did find via some searching WoW customer service forums that if I set it back to 100% (default) OR 149% customized, my hardware cursor works again. I'm going to leave it at 149% because I really do need the larger text size on my HDTV and using 149%, I don't have to change back to normal, log out, log in, then start my game.

I'm glad I found this solution - but my question is, WHY is this an issue on Windows 7? Why does 149% work??

I did some searching and couldn't find any reports of this on XP - and as far as I can remember it only started happening to me when I upgraded my XP to Win7. I'm hoping Microsoft recognizes this as a bug and will fix it someday.

Thanks in advance!

A:Game "hardware cursor" disappears after changing text size

This has to do with DPI scaling. Technically, when you change DPI different images should be used (higher DPI - higher quality image).
150% probably is that border where image should be changed. Likely, in your case that image is missing or somewhat corrupt (or might be a Blizzard's bug).

But Microsoft knows about problems with scaling. In Windows 8 Dev. Preview, at least in Metro part of it, scaling is done in a different way.

I am trying to use a Knoppix CD to access my files locked on my computer during a NTFS-related error. I have downloaded an ISO and I have burned the CD successfully and Knoppix loads like a dream.

However, Knoppix's default font is so huge that I can't navigate the system. I'm a moderate computer nerd; though I am brand-new to Knoppix, I could easily and confidently follow the instructions I have if only I could read the words on the Knoppix screen!

Can anyone offer any easily-understood, step-by-step directions for how to shrink the text size? I have been Googling forever, but I haven't come up with anything I can understand.

A:Changing the Knoppix Text Size (for a Knoppix Knewbie).

You can move your mouse to the edge of the screen and reduce and enlarge the screen size.

I use two printers at two locations w/different computers and have the same problem on both. Many (most?) web pages have info on left side of screen that I do not want to print (such as at this web site). When I print the page I get the left side panel and letters or words on the right are cut off which I need to fill in by hand. Some sites offer "printable view", but I don't recall having a problem with that. Probably not.
Is there a way to adjust the page so that all desired text is printed?

Like one of the other posters, I am trying to make refrigerator magnets. Iím using magnetic peel & stick business card magnets. Then print my own photos on blank business cards. (Like the other poster I know theyíll be flimsy but mine will be for decoration only.)

But the problem is - I canít create my design the right size so it prints out as business card size. I can't make a business-card size rectangle in Paint to use as a template - it's never business-card size size when printed. Onscreen it looks exactly right - doesnít print the way it looks. How can I create an image that is business-card-size when printed? I need a blank template to repeatedly paste different photos onto.

Also, can I print business cards individually? -like how you print one mailing label at a time in Word? Because I won't need hundreds of them, just one of each photo or design to make one magnet.

FYI, attachment shows the product I will use.

Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, ďThe record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?Ē

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.
Thanks,

Hello sevenforums! I have a problem with my computer i recently purchased. Here is my story.

This all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.

Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.
Before
After

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

Help me! It is driving me crazy and I have no idea how to fix it. I cannot save a theme and change to it, otherwise it results in the small font. It affects all the fonts soon afterwards. Like google chrome will be fine until i exit and restart the program. Then a super small font follows.

If you do not want to set it at 125%, and if you are using a mouse with wheel at the top....................

Press Ctrl key and hold > roll the wheel.
Clockwise is to decrease text size.
Counter-clockwise is to increase the text size.

That will mean that on every page you are viewing, you need to manually roll the mouse wheel to adjust text size.

Not what you prefer. I know that.

Havent had this computer online in a few months, but tonight when I opened IE the pages are not normal. To try to explain: most pages text are much bigger than normal size (some pages text are almost screen size for a few letters even), some pages headings or table headings (&borders) are not even shown-instead are just normal white background at times, many images & just all around format or layout on most every page is not correct. Sometimes I will have big white areas on both sides of the normal page, as if the screen was 2-3inches more narrow. I think every page so far has been much longer than normal. I have changed my screen size in control panel. Changing my text size on view in my toolbar does nothing either. Any clue?

On some websites the entire page is this size which makes it hard to read. Any Ideas? Thanks

Have you tried the Reset Web Settings button,

_______________________________________________________________

If the above does not work, try the following.

When you reset your text settings, do you have other browsers open?

If so, try this, open only one instance of Internet Explorer, reset your text size, close the browser.
Windows should remember the settings for the last window you closed.

Reopen Internet Explorer to see if your settings have been retained.

Hello RonBin79,

If you are referring to the DPI display settings, then the default settings is 96 DPI (100%). Be sure that you also have your screen resolution set to it's native resolution as well for default settings.

If you just wanted to change the size of items in Internet Explorer, then you could adjust the zoom level in Internet Explorer instead if that would help.

I and a tech at a local company and I see this problem a lot. The IE display settings are out of whack and the text is far too large making it impossible to read many pages. I have tried the obvious simple fixes of going to view>text size> and setting it to medium and going into the windows display settings and setting them to default. I have set every setting to default and still the text is monstrously huge! I even looked in the registry. Still no dice. This problem is so common yet specific that even goggling it does not come up with the desired results. I am level 1 support and I would like to be able to remide this issue instead of passing on a ticket and causing the users more time lost. At this point is it best just to pass it on and have the other support people reload IE?

Hi! I just changed my rosulution to 1024x768, but my parents keep complainig because when they surf the net , the text is very very small, so i had to change again to 800x600, and now everything is big and ugly again. Is there anyway of keeping the 1024x768 resolution but enlarge the text size on internet explorer? When i click on VIEW>TEXT SIZE and change it to large, only small parts of the text change, but the main text on the page stays small.

You may have accidentally used Text Zoom to make the text smaller in your browser.Text ZoomThe same methods for zooming apply to Internet Explorer, as well (you didn't specify which you are using).Does this solve your problem? Or does it affect other programs, such as word processors, as well?

Text size problem.  My cat ran across the keyboard and hit a key that caused the text size to shrink.  I have tried to correct this problem through the display settings, but it doesn't work.  Is there a key I can hit to bring the size big enough to read?

A:need to correct text size

Hi, If you're referring to the text size in a internet browser, you can use the following commands. Hold down the Ctrl key and press 0 ( Zero ) to return to the default page size.  Additionally, you can also adjust the page size: Hold down the Ctrl key and tap - to reduce the size of the page. Hold down the Ctrl key and tap + to increase the size of the page Regards, DP-K

I've posted my problem on a few sites but I can't get any help. Hope that you can help me.

I have WINME and OE 6. When I change the font size or the font style, it won't stay locked when I hit the 1st key of my message. I try to increase the size to 14 or 18--but when I hit the key it jumps back to 12. The same with the type font--I change the type and when I hit the 1st key it jumps back to ARIAL.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

After you get the message typed out, starting from the last word right click and drag the cursor along the bottom line then up to the top of the message. When all the message is highlighted then adjust the text and click back on the screen.

Have you tried playing with the Advanced settings of the Appearance tab in the Display Properties applet?Start >> Control Panel >> Display Properties >> Appearance tab >> click AdvancedThere are two radio buttons to the right of the Windows and Buttons | Color Scheme | Font Size pull down menus. That is where you can customize the font settings, colors, and border sizes for all windows, dialog boxes, etc. You can customize your windows to your liking and change font colors, sizes, etc.

I have a program which is too big for my Notebook screen. Are there any ways I can reduce the size of the text as in XP, so that the program fits my screen?

There are a few buttons at the bottom of the program I need to get to but at present, I cant because it is too big for the screen.

Any ideas how I reduce it to 50% or 75% as in Windows XP?

Have you tried this- DPI Display Size Settings - Change ?

Since moving to Win7 the pop-up in several products have a text size and font that does not match the Segoe UI 9 standard. I followed all the display personalization, then window color and advanced appearance settings suggestions, but changing the font from segoe UI and back or the font size in all of the various fields had no effect. I checked that all the display settings were Segoe UI at 9pt. I tried changing these to another Font and Size but this had no effect on the bad pop-ups except for the header line. I then changed them back to the Win7 default of Segoe UI/9. I also went back 2 versions on the Display driver and then back up to the latest version. None of these made any difference. Have attached a screenshot. The one on the left is how it should look and the one on the right is how it looks on my system. The strange thing is this bug only seems to affect about 50% of the pop-ups. I have lots of products that are working fine and many that are not. I looked all over the web for a solution and tried numerous things, but up until now nothing has worked. Upload of jpg file does not work. Upload OK but cannot close window to accept the upload.
Upload/close does not work in FireFox

Have you changed your DPI scale? I have this problem frequently because I changed my DPI scale to the higher number, and this is, unfortunately, the price I pay to have the larger font and image size on the screen. Could this be your problem too?

Often, what I have to do when the text is too large to be able to read in the message box, is to temporarily lower my DPI scale, go back into the text box --- complete whatever I'm doing there, and then going back into DPI to increase it again. A pain in the behind, but it's worth it if you need the larger fonts and images.

The problem is: In some (not all) dialog boxes in some software (Iíve posted pictures for you to see) the text are too large. In some cases they are bigger then the box him self.
What Iíve to do to solve this? I donít what to format my hard drive because i have here many important files and I donít have additional space to put them.
Please help me.

Another question. What is the best anti-spywere I can put in my sister's laptop? I think that she has many spyware that spybot canít detect that is making the laptop too slower (little less than 10 minutes to start-up).

Thank you very much for reading my message...

1. I don't see your text prob except in the CorelDraw boxes. I don't see it in the Adobe.
If it is confined to one program, then that program must have some setting to adjust

2. Good online scanners available: Nod32 Eset Online scan is good.
Try free version of Superantispyware also and if you like it, buy it for realtime protection.

I just got a new laptop whose wide-screen is 15.6". The screen resolution is at the recommended level, 1366X768, which is also the screen's naive resolution. I have set the custom DPI to 130 as I am trying to get a larger (but not too large) text showing on the screen, but yet having a larger size while still having everything fit. I would still like to make the text just a little larger, but without causing things not to fit the screen. Would appreciate recommendations on how to manipulate the text sizing parameters so as to have things fit the screen and not to induce distortions.

A:How to optimally adjust text size?

I'm not sure what you're expecting us to say here. The recommended screen resolution is recommended for good reason. The text size comes in three flavours with Windows for good reason. In both cases straying from the recommended levels almost always leads to distortion or blur. Anything outside these parmeters is just trial and error and more significantly something only you can judge. There's no magic formula.

Hi moranacus,

Have you tried this? Set font size to the one you need (medium or whatever) under View - Text Size.
Now go to Tools - Internet Options. In General tab click on Accessibility and in the next window put check mark in "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages."
Click OK and OK again.
