all drives have wrong paths cd/rom doesn't work, or USB HDD

Q: all drives have wrong paths cd/rom doesn't work, or USB HDD

HDD is labeled E:, but it does work. cd/rom is labeled H:, and it does not work. USB HDD is not even recognized. How do I reset (remap?) to the default drive paths.

Hello, as the title suggests, my problem is this:

a few moments ago i was browsing on my computer and everyhting was normal, then all of a sudden, my keyboard started acting weird, caps lock reversed, when i clicked enter on facebook it wuold just skip a line instead of sending my messages, I thought it was something minor so I rebooted instantly. As soon as I booted and saw my motherboards logo, the screen stayed there far longer than it should, like a solid 10-12 seconds instead of 2-3, then I typed in my password but it said it was incorrect. I made sure to try other languages even on screen keyboard, but nothing.

I rebooted again, only to realise my PC would not boot at all, no motherboard logo, no bios, anything, just a black screen, my USB devices are not responding either.

I download stuff all the time, and sometimes I disable my antivirus, could it be something like that? and if so whats the solution?

A few days ago I wanted to access my BIOS for something different, but could not do so, after the motherboard logo, i would press f12 or f9, or del etc and nothing would happen, or a black screen.

in case it helps my motherboard is GA-XA-UD3, I'm using an AMD FX 6300 with an FX 8350 stock cooler, 8 gigs of corsair vengeance ram, my psu is corsair GS 700watt, and my GPU is sapphire radeon 265 2gb.

Any ideas?

A:Wrong Password, then bios doesn't work

We cannot help with password problems as per the rules. It does seem that you may have some other problem as well. I would try the following;
1 System OFF, pull the pw connectors from ALL drives; both hd and optical.
2 Remove any add-in cards such as nic, sound, etc. Leave your video card installed however do make sure it is fully seated.
3 Clear cmos with the clear jumper. Note gigabyte does not use a jumper pe se. Gigabyte boards just have two pins that you momentarily short to clear cmos. If in doubt, read your mb manual.
4 Now pw ON and see if the board will complete POST ie you get a display and receive a msg regarding no operating system found. If the board does complete POST, shutdown and start connecting devices one at a time until you find the failed part. If it does not complete POST in the above config, then you need to start swapping parts with known good units; ie mb, ram, pw supply, etc.

I download stuff all the time, and sometimes I disable my antivirusClick to expand...

I would REALLY stop doing the above. You are just asking for a problem. If you must download stuff, use a linux machine. Linux is much less susceptible to a virus.

no picture shows on my screen! I don't know what to do or what I have done.
I plugged my headphones in one of the kacs at the front of my computer, which I think was the wrong one, as I heard a pulse type noise and then my computer restarted. after this the on/off button won't work and the screen is blank but the disc drive comes out and everything inside and out is connected.
Does anyone know what I could have done and how to fix this?
Any info would be much appreciated...I'm really lost without my own computer

A:Put headphones in the wrong jack and now the on/off button doesn't work and...

Try following

1. Unplug computer's power cord from the wall (or if this is laptop the battery charger from the power).
2. (Remove laptop battery, if this is laptop).
3. Wait at least 5 minutes.
4. Replug everything back and power (and pray if you believe in god).

If this wouldn't help you damaged your motherboard (or power supply for desktop computer). If this is desktop try other power supply.

I bought a USB 2.0 dock and now a USB dock. They are both USB to IDE/SATA docks, the first one the IDE drive didn't spin up, but the sata worked with many drives. The new one the sata also works ok and the IDE spins up but is never recognized, I have tried about 5 different known good drives and 4 different manufactures. NO IDE drive is recognized. I tried power on then insert the drive, power off usb disconnected usb connect every combination I could do, nothing works. Jumpers I have also read many other people with the same problem. There must be something common here. Does anybody have any new data on this problem?Win 7 or compatibility modes

A:New USB 3.0 SATA/IDE HDD dock Doesn't work with IDE drives.

I would suggest that you contact the tech support for the manufacture of the USB dock that you purchased. If it does not work with multiple known drives than it is either the drive is defective or you do not have the proper drivers for it. Since you did not specify what brand assume you can find their site and tech support info. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi, I had some issues with a HDD around this time last year, so I replaced it with a new western digital HDD. I wasn't able to back anything up, so I cloned it instead.

turns out I installed the incorrect driver for my video card and suffered from the BSOD syndrome....

well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.

when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.

I know for a fact that I had CCC on this pc, but it almost seems impossible to get up and running, I am very desperate to get this up and running.

thanx in advance

ok, if u are wondering why i make so many threads, im a computer tech and been at it for 5 years but where i am no one knows more than i do so i have no one to ask but u guys. anyway:

a p3 450mhz computer with 512mb ram and new install of windows xp home edition keeps doing odd stuff. (it was fine after the installation of windows xp until about week ago) when you turn it on, sometimes randomly, windows will show that there are no cd drives, the sound driver has an exclamation mark as well as the usb HUB. the only way to fix it is to uninstall it and reboot windows and windows finds the new hardware, installs it, and everything works. for a little while. then same thing will happen. its like windows is just losing driver files. any suggestions?

i thought it could be an IRQ conflict but i thought with that the devices wouldn't work period. i'd prefer not to reinstall windows or format but if i have to i will.

I just ran a Spybot S&D scan and for the first time since first downloading this program I came up with missing dll files, wrong registry paths, etc. Over the weekend, I had a power surge and it seems that I've had some minor problems with different programs. For instance, I had to reload my McAfee Virus Scan again this morning before running my online scan, which is unusual. Updates aren't unusual, but this seemed to load files that load when I first downloaded the program???? Also my directX files were missing. Anyways, I went to the help file on S&D and it warned not to correct the following unless I am comfortable. Would someone with much more knowledge than I verify that the following are okay to fix?? when i first got my computer i came up with a lofty way of partitioning my 16o gb hard drive into different sections for different purposes like media partition and a system and a possible linux/ UNIX partition. but i haven't followed my plan and my f ( 60 g's) drive is almost full and my E drive ( 50 g's ) is completely empty can i combine the drives without messing up all of my file paths? maybe if i named the new drive f it would change anything? e is completely empty though

A:Partitioning hard drives and file paths

Well, yes if you use a program like Partition Magic that does non-destructive partitioning you can then id the partition as F, and not have lost your paths.

It all started—I think—when I tried to install MagicDisc about a week ago. It gave me a warning, "This program has known compatibility issues". I thought I pressed "Cancel", but I must have accidentally run the program. It installed, opened, and when I tried to mount a disc image with it, nothing happened. So I tried to close it. It was locked.
Then I tried loading the image with a different program. No dice. At that time I also found that TruCrypt froze up whenever I tried to mount an encrypted volume. I unistalled MagicDisc and tried again to use TrueCrypt, which promptly froze up again.
At that point, explorer.exe borked. I couldn't open any folders. I closed explorer.exe in Task Manager, started it again from command prompt, and I still couldn't open anything. I can get things to happen via command, but not in the GUI. So decided to reboot. That's when the shutdown issues started. It hung on "Logging Out" for about a half hour, so I did a cold reboot, and tried again to get a healthy boot. Same problem. I shut it off AGAIN, went into safe mode, and tried to reboot. This time it logged me out, but hung on "Shutting down". I left it overnight. It never shut down. The following day I tried using msconfig to get a clean boot. It did not help. This problem has persisted ever since.
Before I go on, I should mention that during this process I ran rkill.exe, AdwCleaner, and JRT. I do not believe that I have any viruses or malware on my computer.

Can anyone assist? I'm not a programmer so please forgive me in advance.

Iíve tested the code below but itís not redirecting (no errors on the page) As an FYI, I tested only using two incoming links, I added the third elseif here for better clarification.

Need to capture campaign ID from print ads and/or direct links. An easy fix would be a tracking pixel on the page but our current analytics program does not provide it (canít purchase another program, our company is too invested in the current).

To just add another elseif expression for new print ads and/or redirects, i.e. until our analytics company develops a solution (simple as opposed to creating a sub domain w/ a redirect for each new incoming link)
Important Notes:

The code should be case sensitive because the incoming link may sometimes come from same domain but with a different campaign ID (see example below)

I did manage to capture the campaign ID using to two domain autoforwards but that will only work for one incoming link.

Whenever I plug in my USB device it wants to "scan and fix" but works if I just continue. On the other hand the G drive which is for my SD card gives me errors of corruption even before I took it out for the first time. Something is up with the drives and they are updated and all that. Also, with the SD card it doesn't let me delete and when I do add it is just the folder without the contents which then I can't delete. Help me fix this problem. Windows 7 auto update in the middle of the night messed everything up. My desktop is empty, my documents and other folders are also empty.

However, if I navigate through MyComputer, I can still see the files where they should be. Windows is presenting me with a new and empty directory instead.

REAL DIRECTORY (where my files exist): Computer/C:/Users/PC/Downloads

START MENU DIRECTORY (empty when you click downloads): Computer/C:/Windows/System32/config/systemprofile/Downloads.
So, the start menu navigation used to take me to the correct folder and is now taking me to some Sys32/config nonsense folder.

How do I get the desktop and start menu to access the correct folders like it used to before the update. My data and files are not just seems that way because they aren't showing the right folders.

A:Windows 7 using "wrong" desktop and folder paths after update.

Sounds like your user profile has lost it's connection with where it's data is stored.

Enable the hidden Administrator account from WinRE/Win 7 install DVD/flash drive.

User Account Password - Change from WinRE

Follow through part of Step 9. Logon on to the "Administrator" account

The key is a registry hack that redirects Windows back to the ProfileImagePath of the original profile.

Click on Start then Run. type regedit and press Enter or click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Once there, you will see the SID's listed for all of the profiles on the machine. Within the Key for each SID there is an entry called "ProfileImagePath" that will look like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\UserName...
Scroll through the SID's until you find the one with the screwy name, like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\youruserid.2
This is just an example, could be something else weird.
Just edit the Key to remove the ".2", and it will point the user back to their old profile...
Got this from but it's no longer there.

Undo the magnify.exe change made earlier and disable the hidden Administrator account if you want. I leave mine available in case I ever need it.

Hello all, am running Win 8.1 Pro x64. Today I noticed that the "Eject" option from the right-click menu doesn't work for either of my 2 CD-Rom drives, nor for a "virtual" drive - I get the same error message on all 3: "An error occured while ejecting [drive]".

Device Manager shows no errors, and I've tried uninstalling the drives and rebooting, but error persists. Can anyone help?

Also, to be clear, it is NOT a physical problem with the drives, as I can open them without a problem through the buttons on the front.

Finally, if for some reason I can't fix this issue, does anyone know of a way to at least just DELETE the "Eject" from the context menu?

A:"Eject" Option Doesn't Work for ANY of My CD-ROM Drives??

Just to try and determine if your context menu is corrupted, you could try and create a shotcut to open/close your CD tray. With that said, there are several freeware programs available to create these shortcuts so I would just google for:

how to create a shortcut to eject cd

Then pick one and try it out. I hve done this before; however, I can't remember which one I used but I think it was NirSoft.

Good luck.

I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
[email protected]:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either
- and probably other stuff that I haven't took note of yet...

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?

I just recently built a new system running an Intel Q9550 quad core 8 GB of ram and Vista Home Premium x64. Everything works flawlessly except for connecting external hard drives and thumb drives through the usb port. I've tried multiple hard drives/thumb drives on multiple ports on the front and back with it working only once for the thumb drive. Usually Vista keeps sounding the device connect and device disconnect dongs for a few minutes and then every once in a while says the drive needs to be formatted, but the drives work fine on my Laptop that's running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Is this a common problem with x64 or is there something wrong with my system?

A:USB hard drives/thumb drives to work

when I hook the usb thumb drive to the usb port on my printer, Vista recognizes it and lets me see the files on the drive, it also lets me copy a file to it but then freezes after it finishes copying (the copy window has a full progress bar and say "about 0 seconds remaining".

I have been looking left, right and centre for a solution, but failed to find anything that could help me so far... I am hoping you tech buffs can help me resolve my particular issue, so on with the problem:

I insert a (CD/DVD) disc into the disc drive and expect the pc to pick it up, and offer me the autorun menu to see what I would have done with the media inserted therein.

After a bit of whirring, nothing pops up.

Same thing with my USB drives. A bit of whirring, then nothing.

Also... When I manually try to navigate through Windows Explorer, and click upon the disc drive, it brings up the option to format the disc in there

I find that I can eject the disc and re-insert it, and then select the drive, and see the contents.

This is driving me insane!

Even my virtual drives do not autorun when images are mounted onto them!

PLEASE HELP with this, and do not let my call for help sink to the bottom of the "unattended help requests quagmire".

nb: I am running Vista Ultimate x64. So please, all solutions should take into consideration that the computer that has problems is on 64-bit architecture, and not x86.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

So here's my problem:

I bought my Asus N53SV for around a year ago, and it worked great. But for some reason something changed.
When I try to open bluetooth, nothing happens. And when I want to connect anything using bluetooth, it doesn't work.

I tried to do this:

Please help!

Thank you,

Have a friend with a relatively new Lenovo laptop using Windows XP SP3. Overnight he can't access the Internet via browsers, email or AIM. His desktop connected to the same router is working fine.

He can access the router by IP address using either IE7 or FireFox 3.5. Anything that needs a DNS server doesn't work. This does say though that he has a working connection to the router.

He's run MalWareBytes and his own McAffee software looking for bad stuff but has found nothing.

Running "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt gives exactly the same results for the laptop as his working desktop. The DNS servers are there. He can ping the DNS servers using their IP addresses. He is being assigned a proper local network address so DHCP is working on the router.

Any thoughts on where to look next to discover why the Internet applications don't seem to be able to find the DNS servers?

A:Can't Access Websites, Email doesn't work and no AIM doesn

FWIW, my friend took his laptop to a PC shop. Their diagnosis was malware. I don't know the identity of the malware. Anyway, the shop saved his data then formatted and reloaded XP SP3.

Hi... xp stopped responding and I decided to power off.

Was never able to restart after that. Normal boot shows the windows initial screen, but eventually just restarts, safe mode does the same thing whether it's with network, command line or plain safe mode. Last known good configuration does the same.

Needed to use a file so decided to remove the HD and re-install to another PC. I did have access to the file in question but now I'd like to fix the problem.

The other system uses AVG. I started a scan and it detected Cekar.d (A0003977.exe, wdfmgr.exe and initially ntldr.exe), Dropper.Inor (ntdetect.hta, A0003979.hta), PSW.Generic5.ABVW (ctfmona.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.AAFI (ctfmonb.exe), PSW.Generic5.AFYK (ctfmond.exe), PSW.OnlineGames.ZWT (LotusHlp.exe) and some others but for whatever reason the scan stopped. I restarted it and now the AV still finds most of the threats it was seeing before but not Cekar.d. in the ntldr.exe file.

The system that had the problem was running Win XP Home SP1. Unfortunately, I can't find the manufacturer's recovery CD.

HD is still in the other PC. How should I attack the problem?

A:XP doesn't reboot, safemode doesn't work

Update... Three passes of AVG and all threats were put in vault. Tried to re-install the HD to the initial system but no change... System says it didn't start correctly, that a new software of hardware could be responsible, the suggests to try las known good config, none of the options work, they all perform some tasks then windows reboots and ends up in the same screen.

Ok guys so, i unplugged my drives except for my ODD and my SSD because i was migrating my OS from my current SSD to a new Samsung one. Unfortunately the samsung SSD didn't fit in the intels enclosure so till i got a new bracket i was going to put in my intel SSD again. So i replug in my other 2 HDD's again and for some reason, my games one, the seagate keeps taking over the D:\lettering screwing up the pathing for everything on it!

Before it was like this.
C:\ My OS
D:\ my ODD
E:\ Videos drive
F:\ Games + Downloads Drive

Now whenever i have them all in its
C:\ My OS
D:\ Games + Downloads
E:\Videos drive
F:\ My ODD.

A little help anyone please? Steps would be nice if you can. If i try to change its letter it keeps going parameter is incorrect.
EDIT: I think i know how its causing the parameter is incorrect error but no idea what to do with it. For some reason its now disk0 and its got pagefile on it... Like its holding virtual RAM... I do have a system restore from when i installed data migration but im not sure if that would work...

A:My drives are being lettered wrong

Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows

should be quite simple, though you may need to use an intermediate Letter to change when both letters are in use

To swap your D and F drives

Change D to X

I cannot get Windows Media Encoder 9 to work at all at home, but I have no problems with it at work, so I know I'm not trying to do something with it that it can't handle.

At home, every time I try to convert either an AVI or a VOB to WMV, either using the wizard or the custom settings, it lets me get through it all and then, when it starts trying to encode, it throws up the message:
"Windows Media Encoder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. ..."

It never gives me any more information than this, just crashes and closes. I've tried repairing it through the control panel, as well as completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but it hasn't helped.

At home I'm running Windows XP Media Center. At work, where I've never had it crash, I'm running Windows XP Professional. Is there something in Media Center that causes it to crash? Is there any patch I can download or thing I can do to get it to work on my home computer?

Thanks for your help.

A:Windows Media Encoder doesn't work at home, does at work

I'm currently having the same problem . I open the .vob file set the output folder , settings etc etc . just as it was about to start converting , WME just stops and crashes . I use windows xp home edition so if your company's xp professional can make it work im thinking it is something in the professional edition which allows it to work not something in our edition that doesnt allow it to work. Are there any alternatives for encoding a video? i dont have much cash right now so i was hoping i might find some freeware alternatives . thanks

I'm having difficulty figuring out this persistent malware. I think it's likely that there are multiple issues.

I'm running Windows Vista.

The malware started off with "google redirect" symptoms, and disabling my Symantec software

Shortly following, I could no longer access the web. However, the malware itself would create an internet explorer popup every 5-10 minutes (not my default browser) that would go to "search sites" (none that I recognized....) and search for lewd topics. Running the taskmanager would show multiple instances of iexplore.exe running on my machine (one for each popup). The popups would have to be eliminated one by one using the task manager.

Trying to run a system restore, I discovered all restore points had been deleted.

I installed AVG antivirus and got it to run once which seemed to help the problem. However, upon restart, all issues were back and I could no longer run avg. Windows defender constantly pops up that a new trojan is attacking my machine.

At this point, I unplugged my internet connection and started using another machine. I had left my problematic computer alone for about a month.

Upon turning it on last night, each time I logged on, it gave me a warning that "Windows had encountered a critical error and will restart in one minute" and would restart. I tried running cmd (in that one minute) to intercept it, but the task manager would freeze if I tried to run it from there and explorer wo... Read more

So whenever a program uses InstallShield to install or uninstall a program, it boots up, and the bar fills up preparing to run the Wizard, and right when it fills, an error message pops up: "An error occurred while launching the setup. The specified module could not be found," and then it quits.

This occurs anytime I try to install or uninstall anything that uses InstallShield. I've tried everything at the InstallShield troubleshooting site, including deleting a file in the registry (the problem key was there but deleting it didn't solve the problem), making sure I had admin privilidges, and emptying out the Temp folder. I can't reinstall InstallShield because it (ironically) requires InstallShield to install.

The one problem that I can think of would be that I just got back from college. At college, I logged onto a network to use the computer. Could this have something to do with it? I've tried logging onto the computer itself as the Admin, but the problem still occurs. This whole thing really sucks because the comp is pretty much useless not being able to install or uninstall anything.

Thanks for any help.

A:InstallShield doesn't work, none of the usual fixes work

Depending on what version of InstallShield you have here is a site that shows some of it's program errors >

Have you tried this site >

InstallShield uses the Windows Installer Service. It could be that Windows Installer Service has somehow become corrupted.
Check this site out >

As a last resort you might consider reinstalling your Windows Operating System on top of itself to repair and replace the corrupted or missing files associated with InstallShield and Windows Installer Service.

Just for your information, InstallShield is the oldest installer program company. However there is another that is completely free ďInno SetupĒ which you may have seen when installing some programs. Hereís their site >

Dear All
I'm using Dell Vostro 3350 now. After I upgrade Win 10 Pro, the Laptop Speaker doesn't work and can't give output any sound. But if I put my earphone, all of the sound include song work.
I use PC Doctor and scan the computer hardware but there is nothing found error on hardware and software. I also use windows update to scan all of the drivers, but it can't found any update drivers of this laptop. So what can I do next to fix the problem?
Thank you for member's attention

A:Laptop Speaker Doesn't Work But Using Earphone Work

Hello. Dell does not recommend installing Win10 on the Vostro 3350 model. Dell says, "If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected." To get the best performance from your laptop, revert it back to the previous operating system. You can google to find instructions for undoing Win10.
If you want to continue with Win10, then try to install the IDT Win8 audio driver using compatibility mode.
1. Click the link to go to the driver's page. Download and save the driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive. 2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win8.

I bought this machine through BestBuy. Its an Emachines and the price was too good to pass up for the stuff inside it. From the factory it had two CD/DVD drives.

SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-248F [CD-ROM drive] (e:)
SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-816B [CD-ROM drive] (d:)

Since then I have removed the CD-R/RW and replaced it with a DVD burner, so now I have

(e:) doesn't exist anymore

The problem is how the two drives appear in My Computer.

The DVD burner is shown as MMC/SD (D:) (Which is a stick memory reader? has the icon of some sort of card looking thing) and the DVD reader is shown as SmartMedia (F:) (icon of a ZIP disk/floppy looking disk, probably what the SmartMedia disks look like)

The two drives show up just fine in the Device Manager. It is only under My Computer where the problem is. I can even right click the MMC/SD (D:) iron and eject the correct disc drive. In the icon's properties, it lists all the correct information as if it were correct.

Any ideas? Its not causing any problems besides the wrong icon/name. Its confusing when I'm trying to figure out which drive is which in My Computer.

I am getting so sick of this computer. I would consider myself to be a somewhat advanced computer user, but I just have no idea whats goin on here.

Here's the problem:

I have a Compaq S3310OM which I have 2 (IDE) Hard Drives on one IDE Channel and on the other I have had 2 (IDE) Optical Drives (a DVD Burner and the DVD-ROM Drive that came in the computer). The two optical drives worked for 1 1/2 years then all the sudden they decided to not work together. I messed around for quite some time with it trying to get them to work together with no luck. I dual boot with on being XP Pro w/ SP2 and the other being Windows 2000 PRO. Both operating systems including the BIOS will not pick up on EITHER of the drives when they are hooked up on the chain together. I went from Cable Select to choosing a master and a slave and even tried switching the IDE chains with the hard drives incase it was a Motherboard Issue, however the Hard Drives still worked fine but the optical drives wouldnt fire up. At that point I figured that it must have been something to do w/ the drive that came with the computer so I switched it out w/ a DVD-ROM that I had in another PC. Voila! This worked, or so I thought. About a week to a week and a half later that drive started acting up and would occasionaly not read discs then lead to it not working with the burner as well. So then I thought I'd try the two DVD-ROMs togehter and they would not work together either. It was this point that I went loo... Read more

OK this is complexand complicated... Fortime have had problems with blue screens etc, until today (got a new opticaldrive) couldn't do any thing about it.

5 hours ago I had 3 partitions C: D: E: Partion E: was the largest so I copied all my files onto it, leaving bare bones on the other 2. See some how D: drive had an XP image so needed to format it.

Now C drive was system with all programs etc installed to, D was a small partition with relative small data on and E drive was where I had program installers vids pics etc.

So in goes win7 disk select custom option (I should say before all of this I did do an install without formating any partitions, resulting with a blue screen when had almost finnished installing) and used format option on partitions C: and D:

This guys is where it has gone very very wrong...

Bearing in mind I had just formated C: and D:... At the login I'm presented with 2 logins the one just created and the earlier one, using the new one it opens up to a very basic window, something resembling windows 3.1 in colour etc. Quickly went to look at partitions and there are only two, C & D?

WTF it gets better, somehow the instalation has installed it self over to partitions...

Currently can not show screen grabs as not all set up.

But to say Prog files (x86), Prog Files users and windows is on C: and on D: "8fe2a17156970fca00cf21d4db2b5142" "components" "d1ae67c4513e95b68356" "PerfLogs" "bootsqm.dat&... Read more

A:Help Win7 installed on 2 drives and more crazy gone badly wrong

Since all files should always be backed up externally in case of HD failure, one should always delete all partitions during the booted install. If you have issues then go an extra step to wipe the HD from System Recovery Options Command Prompt using Diskpart Clean Command which resolves most.

If you deleted the first two partitions and made sure that you didnt' touch the data partition then nothing during install could have changed where you chose Win7 to be installed. It might have created a small 100mb System Reserved boot partition at the beginning of the drive which is best just ignored. If you are sure you selected the correct C partition then it should install there unless there are issues which I already mentioned how to resolve.

So what I would do is reboot into the Win7 installer, again delete all but the data partition, create your install partition there using the drive options pictured in steps 7/8 of Clean Install Windows 7 , doublecheck you have the correct partition highlighted, then click Next.

While it is installing look over these steps for doing a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to understand what works best in a Win7 install, and especially how to handle drivers since it is not at all like XP.

I'm working on Windows Vista (i know, i know, the folly's of being an early adopter), and my computer is slow, and is crashing far too often for comfort. Below is my HijackThis log:

I feel it's worth adding as well that when running the HijackThis, i got an error message.

The first one was something about running system32\drivers\etc\hosts
The second which followed on was:

An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modMain_CheckOther1Item()

My Vista system drive crashed so I decided to install Windows 7. I disconnected my data drives, removed the crashed drive and I installed a new sata drive and the install went without a problem.

When I went to hook up my old sata drives one at a time (to identify them) I would start windows 7 and it just gets to the start screen and hangs.
If I unplug the drive and reboot, it works fine. It doesn't matter which of the 3 extra drives I hook up, if I hook any of them up, win 7 won't start.

I can see all the drives in setup just fine.

Any ideas before I uninstall win 7 and reinstall Vista?

A:Win 7 doesn't see my other sata drives

Can I assume that the previous OS was on one of the other drives?

It may be the issue is due to the fact that the drives were not present when win7 was installed and one is still marked as the active drive. This can lead to the Vista system attempting to start and failing due to the major hardware change

Check if you can see the drives in the bios, and make sure that the win7 drive is the active drive.

You could then try a start-up repair of the win7 system from the install media

Startup Repair

or alternatively use an offline partitioning tool to organise the drives. The one I use is here ....

Partition Wizard is a Windows based FREE Partition Manager. It works as partition magic and supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008 server and Windows 7. FREE for Home and Business user.

and provides a bootable disk version that is fully win7 compatible

It seems strange that both drives stopped working at the same time. They don't show up as having a disc installed when I bring up MY COMPUTER, gives message "please installed a disc". I have not yet opened the case and checked the cables, will do that now.

I have reviewed the thread and if I correctly understood and performed the suggestions I have elimated the drivers, and suspect that the problem is with the registery/filters. I tried to do the registery fix recommended on support but am too dumb to understand how to copy the fix, click on it and get it to merge.

Would appreciate help with that fix.

OK, so I rebuilt my system yesterday and so everythings great other than I cannot get both my DVD-RW and DVD drives to work at the same time. If I plug the power into both and plug both into the MB I cannot use either of them. The system will not detect either drive. If I unplug either the power or data cable from one then the other is detected and works fine. It doesn't matter which I unplug the other will work they just won't work together. During the rebuild I installed the following:

MB: Asus P5W HD Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad
MEM: G Skill 2 x 2 GB
PSU: Xion 600W

The DVD-RW and DVD drives are both from Lite-On, if someone needs the model # I'll have to pull the drive and get it, Don't remember those off hand.

Both drives are cable select, I did check that and the jumpers are correct.

Any ideas on what my problem might be? Thanks

Hi guys,

My motherboard is Asus P4S333/133 series.. I have updated wrongly my BIOS and the system doesn't boot anymore.

The previous BIOS version is Asus P4S333-VF/WOL ACPI BIOS..

Any advice from you guys to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

A:Wrong BIOS update and now the system doesn't boot! Plz help..

A great big OUCH!

You could try reflashing it with the correct one if it will get that far. But it probably wont even boot to floppy now... The only way I can think of is to remove the BIOS chip and reflaash it in a programmer

Thats exactly why I never flash a BIOS unless its absolutly needed.

This is sort of an extension of a previous problem, which I never found a solution for. Thread: Accessing drives in Windows Explorer takes a long time

Basically, I sometimes can't access other drives/partitions on my computer. If I look at my drives in Windows Explorer, I can see them all listed. If I double-click on the drive, the progress bar at the top of the window moves along very slowly, but the drive never actually opens.

Sometimes I can access a folder on the problem drive by running e:\stuff, while other times it will just open an empty Windows Explorer window. Sometimes I can access a folder, but if I try to access the same folder a few minutes later, I run into the same problem again.

Indexing is turned off for all but a few folders (library folders).

Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 sometimes doesn't let me access other drives

Hmmm, I might try adding all those places to the index. Give it a little time to get that done. And try it again. If things don't improve, then you can remove them from the index again. I have everything indexed except the Vista partition. Worth a shot if you haven't done so already.

IDE configuration of 3 hard drives and one new DVDrw

IDE Channel 1 Master: 40Gb HDD(WinXP - the one I want to boot from)
IDE Channel 1 Slave: 80Gb HDD
IDE Channel 2 Master: DVD-RW
IDE Channel 2 Slave: 40Gb HDD (The only one with more than 1 partition)

Firstly, the DVD drive manual says to only use it as master on any IDE channel, fair enough. I wasn't convinced so I tried it as slave first, but it didn't work properly. So then I connected up as above.

The trouble is everytime it tries to boot it acts as though it can't boot and reverts to trying to boot from CD at which point it says there's no CD in the drive to boot from and halts.

However I have managed to get it to boot somehow occassionally by having the CD/DVD drawer ejected and when I did I could see all drives and all were working correctly. I have tried many different drive configurations but none seemed to stop it from reverting to boot from CD and halting. Checked jumpers and tried many different jumper settings. Also flashed BIOS with latest update and reset its settings. Tried having only hard drives in boot priority and still it tries to boot from CD, I'm guessing because with this drive configuration it cannot see the drive I want to boot from on the initial check it does...

Oh and I've flashed the latest 'driver' on the DVD drive as well to see if it was that but it didn't make a difference.

For now I got fed up and disconnected the Slave HDD and it wo... Read more

Have just acquired a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop with a SATA HDD. Am trying to add an optical drive and a IDE hdd. No matter what combination of jumpers (CS, Master, Slave, etc) and cable cable connections (first or second connector), none of them have been recognized. Have tried 4 CD drives, 2 DVD drives and 1 HDD. No cigar!

What gives? Thanks.

A:Dell 4700 doesn't see CD, DVD or HDD IDE Drives

Before starting the thread, I had checked the Device Mgr to be sure that the IDE controllers were working, which they were, and so it did not occur to me, given this my first SATA computer, that IDE might not be enabled.

I was poking around in the BIOS Setup fishing for anything and, lo and behold, they were not enabled. And so enabled them and that problem solved.

However, iat does beg the question, exactly what is the ide controller vs enabling IDE?

While I am at it, is it possible to use an eide to sata converter so as to have all my old ide devices running under sata? If so, does this apply to ide optical and hard drives?

I have inherited an older IBM Netfinity 5600/8664-3AY. It is a P-3 667 with 1GB of system RAM. It also has an Adaptec AIC-7897 host adaptor with 5 Ultra-SCSI drives attached. The drives have been wiped when the unit was removed from a Chrysler dealership.

For some reason, the host adaptor is seen in the SCSI profile, but none of the drives is seen by the IBM start-up utility. I can run other drive utilities and the drives are seen on Channel 3. Oddly, the host adaptor has only Channel A or Channel B as options.

Everything else about the unit is working, but I can not get it to load a Windows or Linux OS because the drives are not recognized.

I have downloaded the drivers and utility from Adaptec for the host adaptor, but it will not execute from a floppy as described in how to run the software.

Does anyone have any experience with these machines or this particular problem?

I have had problems for a month. Was just put back here as there was nothing to fix in my HighjackThis log file. Was told to run Windows XP CD. Can't because computer won't read the disc.

Here is a link detailing my woes up to now.

Basically email & Internet are the only programs I can use. Can't copy to or read from any drive. No programs will run. Trying opens up Firefox.

I need to know how to get the computer to read my Windows XP Home Edition CD so I can try a repair.

Optical drive 1 is a 16x Lite One DVD+/-RW/CD-RW Dual Layer
Optical drive 2 is a 16x DVD/48x CD-RW Lite On Combo Drive.

The floppy drive has the metal off of a floppy stuck in it, so we can forget that drive for the time being.

I know there are lots of savvy people out there. Someone has to know how to solve my problem.

Thanks in advance for any help. It will be greatly appreciated. Sorry, not in money, just in gratitude.

You could try using a flash drive (memory stick, pen drive whatever you want to call them). Find a XP repair option and make it bootable from the USB stick and then configure the BIOs to boot from the drive.

I am running Win2k on a computer with no internet access and it won't recognize my CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. It was working fine until one day, I uninstalled CloneCD v4.2. I did this because Painkiller won't run with any CD emulation software running. So, I uninstalled and it prompted me to reboot, and when I did, it saw the devices in the POST, but when I open up My Computer in Windows, it only sees the HDDs, of which I have 1 Western Digital 30GB, and a WD 120GB. I opened up Device Manager, both devices were there, but with exclamation points beside them. I opened 'em up, said the drivers weren't installed properly. So, I removed the devices from the Device Manager and rebooted, in hopes that Windows would recognize new hardware and install the drivers. Nope, same problem.

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the required drivers. (Code 31)"

Can anyone help?

It's possible that you took out one of the essential CDROM drivers. If so, you can recover them from the attachment. A jpg with their proper locations is included. I have three physical CDROMs and two virtual and they all have the same driver configuration. LOL

Hi everyone,
My search functions are not working properly even though I have re-indexed everything through the indexing tool.
All search functions either through the search button next to the start button or in file explorer, will only find certain things and simply not find others.
For example I'll open a folder "folder for my notes", then there will be many documents one of which would be "holiday notes". I will type in the search box "holiday" or "notes" or anything relevant, even the content of the document. In most cases it says "no item matched your search", even though the damn document is RIGHT THERE IN THE FOLDER WHERE I'M DOING THE SEARCH.
This happens mostly in the dropbox and google drive folders but it also happens in other folders. And it seems random, like it only finds the things that it wants to find.
Can you guys please try a search for a document within a folder, for an item that you know for sure it's there? Especially for Dropbox/Google Drive.
This is so annoying, I have so many documents that I need to find them based on their title or their text content, but without this feature, I will destroy Windows 10 I hate you with passion!!!!!
Please help, Please!!!!
I just made a full copy of my google drive on my desktop, and now the search function (when I search all my C drive or specific folders) is finding the documents within that copied folder. BUT NOT THE ONES IN GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER... Read more

here's my problem, as near as I can tell,

a few months ago the wireless connection on my hp laptop stopped "seeing" my wireless network. Eventually, during a scan with my panda security system a virus was found (for some reason it is no longer in the logs-but is was, I think, trojan or sasser in my outlook folders-and it was deleted). The wireless seemed to work again but then went back to being "invisible" to my wireless detector on the laptop. I went to HP downloads to see if I could just update the "driver" and ended up updating "system bios" which seemed to work also, for a while, then the system goes back to not seeing the wireless. I could sometimes do the right-click "repair" option to get it to connect but that stops working after a while. I think that there is still some residual virus lurking in the system to cause this problem so that is why I am posting here. Thanks for any help you can give

Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox.  Tried to download to replace existing Firefox.  CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up.  Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
-  Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry.  If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.
SO there are a few issues that I need help with.

A:windows 10 problems - start menu doesn't appear, windows key doesn't work, etc

Well the first thing you should try is to Run System Restore to before all of these problems started or to when you first installed Windows 10.
Then try to download Firefox from there website
Third thing is I would recommend to get rid of Avast it is low end and could be allowing virus I recommend ether McAfee or Norton Security.

Those are some things to think about
but it is all up to you when making your final decision

Ok I have a problem, and its really bugging me. One day a friend came over and we tried to install a Geforce 2 GTS into my computer (PII 450 Mhz,96 MB Ram, etc. etc.) Anyway, we installed the card into the AGP slot, but for some reason the monitor wouldnt work when we turned on the computer (kept saying Video Cable Connected?)(I figured out why it was doing that though) Anyway since it wasn't working, we took the card back out, put the computer back together, all good. My friend leaves, and I turn on the computer. At first everything seems ok, but then I notice my sound doesnt work, nor does my graphics card work (my original one) I fixed the graphic problem by just installing the new drivers, but the sound I cant. I thought maybe it had to do with drivers since we deleted my old graphics drivers when we installed the new graphics card, so I downloaded the newest sound card drivers, and its still not working. I went back and opened up my computer. Theres this one wire that we could not remember wether it was connected or not. Ive tried having my computer on with the wire connected and not connected, and it doesnt seem to make any difference. So I would really like to figure out whats the matter with my comp, and hope to god its fixable, cause I really dont want to get a new comp.

Thanks before hand.

And if I do select Continue, and then select either regular format for Quick Format it will appear to be trying but at the end always fail with error "Windows was unable to complete the format". However if I insert a NTFS USB drive it works fine. And yes FAT32 was working at the beginning, and I didn't install any suspicious programs. I have only been doing the regular Windows updates.

I've been searching around but have yet to find anything helpful. Your input will be greatly appreciated!!

A:Vista64 doesn't recognize FAT32 USB drives

Im trying to backup a ps3 too. My first backup attempt is driving me mad. My ps3 wont recognise the hdd and im told it needs to be formatted to FAT32. I dont even know how to do that. I cant see an option to do it. Im missing something somewhere. Its beyond me why a games machine which should be plug and play should be so complicated to backup? Sorry this doesnt answer your question but hopefully someone with give a few pointers

I want to do a complete reformat. I have a Windows XP Setup CD, and I backed up all my desired files onto an external hard drive, but after starting the Windows XP Setup (Full Install, not Upgrade) in Safe Mode (regular doesn't work) and having it reboot and continue trying to install, I get a blue screen with a 0x00 type code. Is there any way to tell the computer to completely reformat the hard drive (2x500GB set up in a Mirror Array, in case one hard drive has a hardware fault, I'll still have the data on the mirrored drive) so that I can install Windows XP all over again, with none of the problems that I'm trying to get rid of? If I insert the Windows XP CD and select to boot from CD, it claims I have no hard drives installed and can't continue. The hard drives are in there, but after getting rid of malwares recently, my computer has gone through several stages of problems, and all I want to do now is reformat and start fresh and free. How do I get my computer to recognize the drives in its pre-OS state, so I can install Windows XP on it?

A:I want to reformat but it doesn't detect my hard drives.

hey guys. after i switched out my CD-ROM drive, windows stopped recognizing the new CD-ROM drive and one of my 3 hard drives. here's my configuration:
master 1: hard drive C
slave 1: hard drive D
master 2: CD-ROM (new one)
slave 2: hard drive F

the BIOS had both slaves at "off" but i changed it into "auto" and actually recognized every single one of them. but when i log on to windows, on my computer, only C and D show up. the CD ROM and F don't show up. what could be the problem? i've restarted my computer countless amounts of time. I was expecting the new hardware wizard to show up once i replaced the CDROM but that never happened.

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

it appears as though i solved my problem. went to the device manager and enabled secondary IDE channel.

A year ago I installed an SSD drive, and moved many folders to one of two backup HDs.  Today I got a notice from AVG to upgrade my antivirus... I thought it was legit and did it.  Now my computer can only see my C: drive (though it seems to see an A: floppy drive that isn't there).
I had to save these DDS files to my C: drive... I can' view my desktop (no icons are visible).  Everytime that I click on something that resides on my backup HDs I get the message "... refers to a location that is unavailable".
I ran deep scans with Malwarebytes... no luck.  Any help is *greatly* appreciated!
I think I'm supposed to include the DDS.TXT contents... here they are...

A:Windows 7 doesn't see other drives, no icons on desktop

Turns out my BIOS didn't "see" any of my hard drives.  I reflashed it and it appeared ok, then booting up to Windows caused the same thing to happen (no icons, etc)... plus my BIOS didn't detect my drives again!  I ran TDSSKiller and it found/cured three problems... that cleared up my PC issues.  I would delete this thread but I don't think I can.  Thanks anyway!

I have two external hard drives

Western Digital Extreme Lighted WDXC3200JBRNN 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache USB 2.0 / IEEE 1394a External Hard Drive
Western Digital My Book Essential WDG1U5000N 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

I find it hard to believe that both hard drives would not work, at the same time on me on my laptop. My 320GB gives me a "Device not recognize" error, while my 500GB just won't do anything besides the power light being on.

I find it very hard to believe that both drives would go out on me at the exact same time. I have no way of taking them out and testing them, and I have no extra computers to test them on.

I came home one day last week to find my dell dimension 8100 had rebooted and was showing a flashing cursor with the message: strike F1 to reboot, F2 for setup utility
going into BIOS / setup, it showed "Unknown Device" for both the internal hdds and both CD drives. I reseated all connections, all memory, unplugged all peripherals, still won't see ANY drives, except floppy. Could be a bad ribbon, but two bad ribbons at the exact same time? Not very likely. Dell support couldn't figure it out. They concluded I had a bad motherboard, and that was my opinion also. I got a new motherboard and processor, installed, and on boot the result is the same, doesn't see any hard drives or cd drives. All four say Unknown Device.
About a month before this happened, the ps2 keyboard port on mboard went bad and I had to switch to a usb keyboard, which helped fuel my suspicion that this was a mboard issue.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have a very unclear problem. Essentially, when I turn my computer on, it goes immediately to a screen where it says "IDE Channel 0 Master: None", and it says that for IDE 0 master; IDE 0 slave; IDE 1 Master; and IDE 1 slave. so, my computer does not recognize that I have any hard drives, at all. In my BIOS it is the same thing. (both my drives are IDE)

I put my drive in another computer where it was found to be "dirty" by checkdisk, but then checkdisk fixed it, and it worked in that computer and I could access it and everything. But, when I put it back in my computer, it still has the same problem, and I have no idea wtf is going on, essentiall. I've tried both of my hard drives in this computer, and neither of them work, and I've tried them as master and slave, individually and together, and it still doesn't work. Any advice? I reset my BIOS already.

I just got two WD Elements USB disk drives. I connected the first one and changed it to be the X-Disk. I disconnected it then connected the second disk drive. W7 thinks it is the first one (X-Disk).

I disconnected the second disk, re-connected the first, which it remembers as the X-Disk. Then I reconnected the second disk while the first one was still connected but W7 doesn't see it in "Computer". So I can't access it. But it does know that something else is connected as it does shows up in the eject list in "opening devices and printers" in the taskbar - but just with the name of the disk (Elements).

I restarted W7 but that did not help. How do I get it to recognize and remember that these are two different disk drives, have them on at the same time, and set the second disk drive to be the Y-Disk?

I never had this problem with the multiple Samsung disk drives that I have. W7 recognizes and remembers each one individually, whether they are connected at the same time or at different times.

Thank you

A:W7 Doesn't Recognize Second of Two WD Elements Disk Drives

When you connect a disk to windows it writes a signature to the disk if two disk have the same signature it will only mount one drive.. You can see and change signatures with diskpart do you feel OK using that?

Good morning everyone, am trying to describe my issue as good as possible, so please bear with me =)Two days ago, I went into a game of League of Legends, on the swap to the loading screen I alt tabbed which then caused a bluescreen to happen. It gave me the message: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and asked me to check if I have any new hard- or software with the technical information: ***STOP: 0x0000007A (0x0000000000000020, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009D, 0xFFFFF x0000000000000000) Physical memory dump FAILED with status 0xc0000001.Over the course of the next 2 days, I've had a few bluescreens with the same message, ran CHKDSK, let it fix something and then had three following popups from Marvell Event Message:[WARNING] Physical disk 2 is plugged out[INFO] Physical disk 2 is plugged in[WARNING] Physical disk 2 is plugged outA restart solved the issue, windows wanted to do an update which is fine by me, however, when it tried to restart it couldn't boot the OS. A look into the BIOS gave me some insight on what happened: It can still find both my SSD and my HDD, however, all of a sudden they're in a raid. At first, I was able to select the RAID as a boot priority, but later on even that option vanished, leaving me with only the following three as boot options.Removable Dev.USB: TDK TF10 (My USB stick with the windows 7 ISO)ATAPI CD-ROMMy question is the following: Is it the Raid that appeared all of a sudden? Can I somehow undo it? Are my drives damaged? Because they do show up w... Read more

A:Win 7 doesn't boot up, drives are a raid all of a sudden

Hi The pictures really helped. First thing is to turn off raid in the storage configuration in the bios page Main It would normally be ACHI . Then set the SSD to be the first boot device. If it still blue screens the please post the error .When you get it booting check the antivirus software is up to date and perhaps run a disk health check with HDtune pro. What you did shouldn't have caused the bios to change to raid mode. So am unsure what might have caused the problem.

Hi everyone. This looks like a good place to ask tech questions; there are plenty of knowledgeable people here. Hopefully one of them can help with my problem.

I have a Windows 2000 system with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (yes, I know Win2K doesn't use 64-bit functionality) and an nVidia nForce motherboard, but I forget which model it is. Whenever I try to write large amounts of data (~500MB or more) to a USB flash drive or hard drive, Windows will randomly restart while writing. There doesn't appear to be a similar problem with reading large amounts of data, although I haven't tested nearly as much.

Any ideas why this may be happening, or do I need to post more information? Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, so I input my USB drive; it doesn't detect any data and wants to reformat it, I decide to go ahead with it, but it simply says "windows can't format device E:". It does the same thing with my MSI drivers disk... Please help

A:Windows 10 doesn't recognise USB drives or Disks

Sometimes my USB drives won't detect. Make sure they are showing in Device Manager and Disk Manager. It should be just a generic USB driver and it should be included in Windows 10.

Plug in your Drive and reboot the system, then check for a device wizard as it starts up. If the drive uses proprietary drivers make sure you have then downloaded. I have one WD MyBook/2TB and one WD 1TB Drive attached via USB, plus a DVD Burner in an external case. They all detect, but sometimes they take a while. Also sometimes USB Printers can stall you on Boot, I keep them unplugged until booted and all other devices are found. My main Printer is on an LPT Port, so I don't have that problem with that printer. But other printers stall me on Bootup. And your USB ports might be bad, check all of them. I have 8 USB ports plus a powered USB Hub, you will probably need a powered Hub to run those drives.
