WD IDE HD is not recognized anymore.

Q: WD IDE HD is not recognized anymore.

I have a WD 160gb IDE HD. The computer originally came with a SATA drive, but that drive kicked the bucket, and I got a new drive. Previously, after the manufacturer's logo loading screen finished, a prompt would pop up saying that the disk wasn't found, and press f1 to continue, or press f2 for the setup utility. When I pressed f1, it loaded my disk fine.

This morning, I had to reinstall my OS. After installing many drivers, I had to restart to get the drivers to take effect. Suddenly, the disk would no longer load. The computer wont find the disk at all. I've checked all the wiring, and it all seems to be in place. After the manufacturers logo screen, a prompt comes up listing the types of drives (SATA, Primary, Secondary) and saying that they were not found. When I press f1 to continue, it tells me "No boot device available. Strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility." Under BIOS options, the drive is "unknown".

Does anyone know anything that I might try to get this device working again? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and a solution that solves my problem would make me get down on my knees and

Thanks in advance.

Did you ever get the new HD working?

Some BIOSes don't recognise HDs above a certain capacity.

Hey guys,
it's been a while since I started using windows 10 and I must say, I haven't anything negative to say about it yet. (might also be only me and due to the stuff I do on my laptop). One thing I haven't done since I upgraded is using my headset, so I did it or to be precise, I tried.
When I plug in the headset, it's a Logitech (don't have the exact name, can't find the receipt) with one audio jack and one microphone jack, the usual Windows 10 box pops up asking me what it is: headphones, headset or speaker out. I choose headset and there starts my problem: I have sound but my microphone doesn't work. I tried and "repair" it with the proposed solutions but nothing came out..
Note: the headset worked perfectly on windows 7.
Can someone help me?

Hi folks,

I posted a couple times regarding a registry problem that I was having and got no replies, so hopefully I will be more successful here with my new problems.

I had a brand new OEM Hitachi Spinpoint 400GB SATAII drive that installed on my new build and took XP Pro just fine. Once I got it all loaded I flashed to the latest BIOS and the hard drive was no longer recognizable. I put it in another machine and it was not recognizable there either. Did I mention that it was making an odd spinning/clicking sound? I RMA'd it.

In the meantime I had another machine that has a 200GB partitioned in two, 30GB for the OS and 160GB for data. It had a corrupted registry so I reformatted the 30GB partition (NTFS) and re-installed XPP and all the apps. Things were humming for a few days and then last night I burned some MP3's from the 160GB partition onto a DVD and when I came back in the room my screen was BLACK with something like "Disk Not Detected, Please insert disk into drive, or re-install disk then restart," or the like.

I tossed in my XPP CD and ran prompts to get to the repair console. Guess what? It says there is no hard drive. What is going on here with hard drives not being recognized? Is that two dead drives in 7 days?

There is one other clue, but I am new to SATA so I cannot say if it is relevant. I did have a second SATA DVD burner hooked up that I removed from the system once it seemed stable and then shortly after being removed this happened... Read more

Appreciate the help, but I figured it out on my own.

I ran Seatools on the drive twice and it cannot make it more than 6% through the Long Test before complete failure.

I yanked the drive out and ran it through the warranty checker and it is and OEM drive out of warranty.

Hello everyone. I'm new here, but I've done a search here and cannot seem to find the answer to my problem(s). Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

First, let me say that the computer I am having the problem on is an older Compaq Presario (model 8772) running the Windows 98 upgrade from Windows 95.

I purchased (from eBay) and installed an HP-8100 Internal CD-RW (CD Writer) drive into this system. Both the original CD-ROM drive and this "new" CD-RW drive worked fine for several months. A few months ago, I installed some software (Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0, Acid 3.0 Full Version, and several plug-ins) from a friend's CD that had been burned. Yes, this is pirated software. This is when problems began occuring. I know, I know, lecture me later. I need help right now.

One day I booted up, and a DOS message appeared before loading Windows. This message stated that a new drive was recognized. The specifications seemed to resemble that of my hard drive (capacity of drive is around 6 GB). I had 3 options: "Ignore," "Save," and I hate to say that I do not remember the other option... For several days, I chose "Ignore" and things worked fine. One day, I got tired of seeing this message, and I chose "Save." Man, I wish I'd never done that. From this point on, neither DOS nor Windows has recognized either CD drive. "My Computer" doesn't list them at all. Neither does "Device Manager." It's as i... Read more

About a week ago, I bought a Maxtor Basics 1 TB external HDD (7200 RPM, 32MB Cache, USB 2.0). I have been using it on my Windows Vista Business Edition (SP1) desktop computer without problems since.

However, after turning off my computer and unplugging the power cord of the HDD (as usual) yesterday, I can't get it to work again today.
The drive seems to be powering up alright (the light on the box comes on, there is a whine as the disc spins up and then I can feel a slight vibration of continued operation when I lay my hand on the box, all of which are normal signs) but Vista does not make that sound of plugging in a new USB device. Needless to say, the drive does not appear in My Computer, but I have also checked Disk Management and Device Manager in Microsoft Management Console to no avail. It is not listed anywhere, not even as "Unrecognized USB device" or such. Nada.

After experimenting with using different USB cables and power adapters and plugs, I guessed that may be my PC was at fault, so I have tried a Windows Vista Home Premium laptop, but again with no success. My hopes of laying the blame on Vista were crushed as another laptop with Windows XP Professional SP2 also does not recognize the drive.

Any hints or suggestions you may provide would be most welcome.

A:External HDD not being recognized anymore

sounds like the usb adapter on the drive has gone.

also, does that drive have an e-sata connector? if so there may be a switch that needs moving.

First I want to say that this is not a computer problem, this is the USB's problem. I've tried it under every computer I could and it just didn't recognize it anymore. This is was all of a sudden really.

Can anyone give me instructions on what to do?

I'm willing to post whatever test I need

A:USB not recognized by any computer anymore

If no computer recognises it, then the USB drive is probably dead. Such things do happen.

However, the drive might also be corrupted. To check that, type "disk management" into the search window under start menu. Click on "create or format..." If the drive shows up at all, then the drive is not dead.

To fix the file system, use Test Disk.

Hi, I have a laptop and I'm currently having issues which I have never encountered before. I've recently installed Diablo 3 and everything was playing great until I reopened my laptop and noticed that the gameplay did not detect my Geforce graphic card and only my Intel HD graphics.
I have tried many games and they have always turned on my Geforce graphics. However it has randomly gone missing now.
Nvida control panel won't open as it says "An NVIDIA graphics card was not detected in your system"
I do know a very good amount of computer knowledge, I have scanned for viruses/malware/spyware all in safe mode. Nothing came up.
System restored, yet graphic card is still missing.

All drivers on this laptop were up to date prior to this issue. (Also Reinstalled drivers, but the graphic card was not detected)
This laptop is not even a year old.

When I go to device manager and scan for any changes, I noticed that there is now a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" which used to say GeForce 540M graphics video adapter.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64
GeForce 540M w/ Optimus Technology.

Does anyone know what happened to my graphic card??

A:Geforce 540M not being recognized anymore.

I found the solution.. I disabled the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and for some reason, my laptop restarted and I have found my GeForce graphics card. Sorry for the post! If an admin can kindly delete this thread

Hi. I have a Creative Zen Nano Plus 1GB mp3 player and it used to work just fine. i'd plug it into the usb and boom... it was there (i no longer get the "what would you like to do... open in folder... use program...ect message upon plugging in any usb device anymore... i'd also like to know how to turn that back on if possible)

now however... i plug it in and it is not recognized. i've uninstalled and reinstalled the creative software and even in the nano plus media explorer it says there is no device plugged in. the mp3 player seems to work fine still with the music that is already on it... i just can't seem to get it to connect to the computer anymore.

any ideas or suggestions? thanks!

nevermind..... i've got it working for now... seems when i plug it into the external usb port it works, but the built in port doesn't read it (and it does work with other devices... just not the nano... wierd)

Hello all,

I have a problem with my external HDD.
When I woke up this morning, windows update had installed some updates and automatically my laptop had restarted.
I tried to log in, but it crashed, immediately, out of the blue.
I thought, ok, can happen, so when it had restarted and after logging in, I wanted to check on some things on my HDD.
But I got a message, saying something like: The USB device is not being recognized.
So I tried again, a couple of times, but I kept getting that message.
After trying to switch usb ports and plugging in and out several times, I didn't even get that message anymore.
That was when I started to realise I had a serious problem here.
The HDD won't show in windows explorer, won't show in device management, and won't show in the BIOS.
It is nowhere to be found, but the HDD itself is plugged in and working, it seems.
I tried to recover data, but all the software I found doesn't find the HDD either, which makes sense considering the BIOS isn't even recognising it.
Is there anything I can do to try and recover my data?
Can my HDD be saved?
I don't know if I've explained my situation clear enough, should there be any questions, please ask.

Thanks in advance,

hi folks,

i have the weirdest problem since a little while that is bothering me quite a bit, namely: i cant use the system with the mouse anymore or rather it is severely limmited. these are the symptoms during which i can move the mouse pointer alright, but:

no application reacts to mouse clicks anymore
cant switch apps via task barpress buttons...the mouse over event seems also affected b/c when hovering over widgets where the mouse pointer would usually change, it doesnt.i have also noticed once, when this happened in a text editor, that when moving the mouse, the viewable text would scroll if i move the mouse out of the editors area on the north or south end
luckily i have a short remedy to the problem, namely:

pressing ctrl+alt+del
-> brings me to the screnn to lock, wtich user, ... screenESC
-> back to where i was
when i do this all is well again.

so far i have no clue what triggers this as it happens seemingly at random and in diff. situations. some days it only happens only a few times, while at others this happens constantly.

so long

i'm a developer and know my way around Windows quite well. when this 1st started i hadn't changed my system, by installing new software except for the windows updates, that i cant avoid due to company policy

After 19 stinking days, my external hard drive is refusing to show up on my computer now. I used it just fine last night, but when I plug it in today, nothing. Nothing's recognized, and the drive doesn't do its usual red flickers. So far I've tried not using the extension cable, didn't work, so I test the cable, it works. I get a different cord and plug it into my hard drive, and nothing shows up.

It powers up just fine, but it just doesn't do anything when I plug it in. It's starting to sound like a failure in the USB part, but I have no way to be sure. I can't get it replaced by my store because it went past my 30 day replacement plan since they took 3 weeks to ship it to me. -_-;;

It's a 250GB Western Digital USB/Firewire drive, and it's going out the window if I can't get it to work.. Please help me reclaim $300 of my life!

So basically my external hard drive was acting up and I was going to disable and re-enable it to try and solve the problems.

I went to Computer Management -> Disk Management and disabled Disk 1 (which was the HDD). To disable it, I right clicked the disk and went to the properties. I went to the Driver Tab (which lists: Driver Details, Update Driver, Rollback Driver, Disable, and Uninstall). I clicked the disable option.

It disappeared and whenever I plug it in, it doesn't show up anymore.

The HDD is the Screenplay HD from Iomega and the drivers are located on the HDD itself. The HDD still works because I plugged it into my MAC. From there, I just erased everything and set it up to use FAT32 so it would be compatible with both systems.

The HDD shows up under the USB Controllers except as a "USB Mass Storage Drive" now and the menu to do anything with it doesn't pop up.

Any idea how to re-enable it? It seems that I need to find some unallocated partition in Disk Management and add a new disk. However, there is no more unallocated partition. It also seems I need to download third party programs to create an unallocated partition.

Help is very much appreciated and I will be here to answer questions.

A:External Hard Drive Not Recognized Anymore

Solved. If anyone else has this problem, try:

It will reappear with a different name under the disk drives(which is why I didn't realize it in the first place). Just enable it and you should be good to go.

Hi guys

I just bought an ASUS CM 6870 with windows 8 64, and it was working fine. One certain day it stopped booting. Actually, no image would show up.

I changed my monitor to the onboard graphics card instead of the Geforce GTX 650 card, and I could at least see the initial boot, but it was halting.

I booted through a pen drive version, and everything went back to work, except for the Geforce, wich I cant get back to work.
Anyone can help me out here? I tried several settings in the Bios, but none worked so far.
Appreciate any help, Thanks

Did the computer come with the GTX 650 or did you add it in later?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the video card in it's slot? It may be partially loose. Be sure to connect the monitor back to the video before turning the computer back on.

I recently had a problem with my Western Digital My Book Essential Edition external hard drive (500 GB). It used to work fine, but one day it stopped working. When I was plugging it in my computer, the blue light was turning on, I could hear the hard drive started spinning but then nothing else ... Windows explorer was not detecting it, so I could not access anything. Using Device manager under hard drives, I could see my drive, populate it, looked at the driver and everything looked to be working. I could also see my drive under Disk management, however, I could not do anything ! And here's the real symptom I got that was different from a lot of different problems: when I tried to right click my drive under disk management (to change drive letter for example), I only obtained the "help" option, all other options were gone from the menu computer hard drive was fine and I could see the menu for it. Using the Western Digital diagnostics software, I could see it, scan it but it did not detect any mistakes. However, using various partition scanning softwares such as ptedit, I realized that the value for my partition was not OC as other external hard drives I saw I used the program to change it to OC and ...voila ! The problem was solved, I could get access to all my data !! Somehow, it looks like Western Digital drives have a tendency to change that setting ...I saw some other posts with the same problem ...

Hi. I have an external hard drive from WD (MyBook 3.0 1 TB) that has been working (almost) perfectly since I got it, approximately half a year ago. The only problem was that the usb connector seemed quite loose and I sometimes needed to reconnect it for the hard drive to work. Now, for some reason, a few days ago, I had to reconnect it on the hard drive's end and I had to force it a bit. Even after that, everything worked. Then, a day or two later, I see a message from windows telling me "I could get more speed if I connected the drive to a USB 3.0 port" (or something like that)(btw, it was connected in a USB 3.0 port). Since then, I haven't been able to get the hard drive to be recognized by Windows for more than 5 or 10 seconds. I have succeeded by pressing on the hard drive's connector but now it just seems like the port is completely loose inside the external hard drive (which means that I basically can't seem to get the cable completely plugged in the port). Also, after a few tries at reconnecting it, the computer started to shut down every time I connect the hard drive to the computer.

I have tried connecting it to other usb ports, although not on a different computer. I don't have access to another computer right now but I will try it as soon as I can.

My laptop is an Asus N61JQ-X1 and my OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance for your help

When I insert any flash drive/stick into a Windows 7 Home 64bit computer, there is a small sound (not the double sound of correct recognition).

The drive is not assigned a drive letter and is NOT seen in Disk Management.

The device DOES show up in drivers under 'disk drives', but says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" under the General tab, and the entry has the little yellow 'error' icon. Says driver is correct.

I have spent 8 hours researching and it won't surprise me if it is because of Acronis True Image (Western Digital free edition - an older version AND the current 2013 version), which I have removed. I have also ran the Acronis cleanup tool. I have made some edits in the registry relating to 'filters' installed by Acronis.

I have also tried the "drivecleanup.exe' program to free old/unused USB devices.

I started by reloading all motherboard drivers, including USB and Asmedia.
and "sfc /scannow" is clean. Also used CCleaner registry cleaner, which found some Acronis item(s) after I uninstalled.

Can anybody help, please?

A:[SOLVED] No flash stick recognized anymore

First never use any registry cleaners they do more harm than good.... If you have used it in the past before the problem with your flash drive not being detected the registry cleaner could be the culprit.

First step go to Start type in devmgmt.msc then hit "enter" post a screenshot of the USB Universal Serial Bus Controllers expanded.

Then a screenshot of the same thing with your flash drive pluged in.

Also try your usb flash drive on on another pc to rule out a faulty USB flash drive.

Edit: Code 10 means possibly corrupted drivers. Maybe corrupted drivers for the device.

Fix: "This device cannot start" Code 10 error in Device Manager in Windows have a look see under Device Configuration issues.

Bought an Acer Aspire One 522 netbook 3 days ago. It's got Windows 7 Starter installed as an OS. Had no problem connecting to my home network via wireless router, but yesterday all of a sudden it stopped working. Ever since my home network no longer shows up in the "Wireless Network Connections" list at the bottom right of the taskbar. I have 2 flatmates they both have no problem connecting and my iphone 4 also finds and connects without a problem. Also I can connect via LAN cable without a problem (hence me being able to type this..) It shows all other available networks but just not the one I need.. Very strange. Can anyone help? I have already tried the below..

1. Switching Wireless hardware switch off and on
2. Reinstalling device driver for Broadcom802.11 Network Adapter
3. Deleting saved internet wireless profile
4. Entering the wireless profile manually

But now I am helpless.. Not the most knowledgeable computer guy, but with your help, maybe I can finally fix this.. Would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys. I'm desperate!!

I got a Nexxtech 3.5 Enclosure with "Maxtor DiamondMax 21 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, ATA-100, EIDE, OEM". My computer is a Dell, Win XP SP 3.

It has been working for a year but something happen to my computer this pass week that caused me to reboot the computer. Now the Computer will not recognized the External Hard Drive. The Enclosure has a Power-Data Light indicator and is showing Red instead of Blue. Never did figure out what that means. When plugged in, the computer will do the "ding dong" sound (as if it connected the hard drive) after a few minutes then another "ding dong" sound but different tone (as if it disconnected) after a few more minutes. Problem is that it is not showing on my taskbar for "New Hardware Detected" or "Removable Hard Drive"

I have tried Disk Management and It is NOT showing up on there. I have also tried the hard drive on other computers and getting same results.

A:Solved: Computer will not recognized External Hard Drive anymore

You need to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and either slave it to a desktop machine, and see if that machine can read it, or try the drive in another enclosure.

You have to determine if the drive is the problem, or is the enclosure the problem.

I have a PC which is having a lot of trouble recognizing a USB data acquisition device. Starting from a situation where the PC *does* recognize the device, here is the basic pattern:

1. PC shows device in Device Manager under "Data Acquisition Devices".

2. If the PC is power-cycled via the power plug itself, the device is no longer recognized under Device Manager ("Unknown Device").

3. If the PC is power-cycled via Start Menu --> Turn Off, same results as above, no longer recognized.

4. If the PC is power-cycled via Start Menu --> Restart, no problems, device recognized.

When the device is not recognized, unplugging and replugging the USB cable makes no difference to the situation. In order to correct the issue, I disable and then enable via Device Manager (which also involves a restart).

This pattern is extremely repeatable.

I am working with WinXP SP2, Pentium, 2.8 GHz, 504 MB RAM.

This PC was returned from a customer site - the PC and USB device are used in a machine my company manufactures. Apparently this issue just started happening one day. We want not only to correct the issue, but in fact to understand the root cause and ensure it will not happen again in the future.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

A:USB Device Recognized / Not Recognized based on shut-down method

You could try reinstalling the usb drivers.
JohnWill has fix that is worth a try

Johnwill's solution

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.

Hello all. It has been a while since I've needed help but my run of luck has hit an ugly downturn. Moved my computer three weeks ago and had not plugged it all back together till last night. All these years I had used it without a password to log in but a few months back a tech friend expressed horror at this so I started using one. Last night no matter what I did it wouldn't let me log in, saying incorrect password. Today as I messed around again I went through the steps of asking it to reset password (even though I didn't have disc for reset) and realized it does not seem to be recognizing my internal drive. If one of my externals are on they come up but if I turn off externals I get a bubble that says 'No Drive. This feature requires removable media etc.' My drive seems to be running and the Windows logos do appear during boot. My keyboard seems to be functioning to type password, but when I hit F8 while rebooting I get no reaction, so cannot boot to safe mode, just goes right back to log in page. I have had mold/moisture issues in this new house but have had a dehumidifier running since just a few days after computer arrived here. However I do see some evidence of mold or dust in the case, not a lot but some. Not sure what the root of this problem is but I am trying hard not to panic. Any ideas?

A:Internal drive not recognized/password not recognized

Your tech. friend may have mis-understood when you need a password.
If you are at home and only you and you trusted family have access to you computer, there is no need whatsoever for a logon password.
The only time I have ever needed one is when I was using my own laptop on clients site when I was contracting and I would leave it on the desk over lunch.

I have an 8GB sd card i used while traveling and upon trying to get the pictures from it the computer does not recognize the card at all, no prompts, nothing. I have tried it in multiple pcs and macs and no response. My Cannon Rebel XS camera says no images found. However, when I plug it into my brother's Cannon PowerShot it actually recognizes and shows all pictures on the card. Does anyone have any reason why this is happening and how I can recover the pictures? I am not willing to just format to make the card work again, I must have these pictures.

A:SD Card not recognized in computer but recognized on camera

Have you tried leaving the card in the camera and attaching to the computer to d/l the pictures that way. I have an Olympus camera and the pictures will d/l fine with the card left in the camera.

My laptop does not recgonize DVD+/-RW. It recognizes all other media except rewriteable DVD.

Following are my specs
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic
Laptop Brand and Make: Sony Vaio N Series (VGN-N37GH/B)
DVD Drive: Sony DVD RW AW-G540A ATA Device
DVD Media Brand (which I tried): Sony DVD-RW

What I've tried:
1)Reached out to Sony support and they suggested removal of upper filter and lower filter as per Microsoft KB (
2)Uninstalling Roxio and Nero
3)Reinstalling Nero

I am attaching output of Nero Info, Error during the burn process, screenshot of Nero Info Tool and screenshot of Nero Express Essentials.

Not sure what is wrong where and sony support as usual is not helpful...
Please heeeellllllppppp......

A:Rewriteable DVD not recognized - All other media recognized

Your DVD player may not be re-writeable. Check your specs. Some players are read only and some are read/write. At least this will help you to the next step in determining a solution.

I recently added two sticks of new RAM to my computer, but when I turned it on again I got the two-beep "RAM Not Detected" signal. I removed the new RAM, but I still got the two-beep signal after turning it on. I've removed the old RAM, sprayed the area with duster, put the old RAM back and still have the same problem.

What to do? Thanks.

I have an old PC (Compaq Presario Desktop 7470 ) that i purchased from a yard sale. I removed the old HD and replaced it with a quantum 30gb at Lct 20 HD that had Windows ME OS on it. I booted the pc and it booted fine except windows booted up in 16 bit color. I shut down and booted again. same thing. i shut down a third time and checked BIOS settings, then set them to default. Now BIOS doesn't recognize the HD or the CD-ROM drive. I have checked all connection, reset BIOS, removed the CMOS battery, I literally have tried everything I can think of to get things going on this old PC, but I am at the end of my rope. I will say that scandisk will recognize the HD and says it is OK. I have also taken the HD out and hooked it up to another PC and it boots up Windows ME just fine. I have also tried every jumper setting on the HD and Cd-rom to no avail and the only drive that shows up in BIOS is the 3.5 floppy drive which will boot up a Windows ME Boot Disk. I don't have a problem installing a fresh OS but want and need the PC to recognize the drives before i can do that correct?
I am ready to pull my hair out!! Can anyone please help me?!!!?

A:HD recognized by scandisk but HD not recognized by BIOS

probably the booting sequence is wrong due to the fact that you told the BIOS to load the preferred defaults. If you have a standard BIOS:

*go to advanced BIOS settings.... your going to see a big list of options .

<< check this picture for visual example>>
*take a look at the first , second and third boot device and change them to:

1- HDD - 0
2- HDD - 1
3- HDD - 2

Alternate them accordingly.

**probably the reason why your pc booted up at 16 bit the first time , may be
because you haven't installed the drivers for your video card yet.

Hello everyone..
Yesterday my laptop pushed a new Win 10 update, and all went fine, or at least I think so.
But today I see that my Sony WALKMAN - which I used with no problem until now, can't be recognized anymore.

Basically it just shows as (E or Usb Drive E: but when I click it it says "Please insert a disk into E:/" like there is nothing there.

Now the interesting part is.. if I go to Device Manager I see it and clicking on properties etc t says it's working fine.

But if I go to Disk Management, the Drive shows as 14 gb of unallocated space and it's greyed out.

However, if I put it on my brother's laptop, it works perfectly and it can be opened, music moved into it etc - it shows as Healthy - Primary Partition in Disk Management. So it doesn't seem broken...

It's the same on each of the 4 usb ports btw. But, other usb devices (2 phones, 1 tablet) don't have any issue and are detected.

What could have caused this? I tried the basic Disable/Enable in Device Manager and also Uninstall Driver.. It doesn't do anything, it appears back when I replug it in.

No change in Safe Mode and no change after sfc /scannow

If anyone has any idea I'd be happy to try anything to fix this..

An external hard drive works perfectly fine via USB 2, but USB 3.0 won't recognize the drive. It ignores it entireley. It won't even appear in the list of hard disks in Disk Manager, @Active or EaseUS Partition Manager.A driver issue? A h/w issue?  Creating a partition on the external drive, creating and formatting a logical drive did NOT solve this problem with a brand-new drive designed to work via USB 3.0.Any ideas?

So i have a seagate 1tb external HDD, and it's been plugged into my desktop computer, with network sharing turned on, but our wifi is password protected, so i don't know if that has that much to do with it.
anywhos, my computer likes to restart and sometimes not start back up on occasion, and the last time it did this, my hard drive wouldn't be recognized. I went through troubleshooting on the seagate website, and in the device manager, the HDD is there. upon unplugging, it doesn't show up, so the DM is correct. But when i go to "My Computer" (XP home edition), nothing is showing up. Any ideas/suggestions?

I have an older Dell machine that I plan to use as a backup server for my family. It has 2 SATA HDDs, 1 IDE DVD drive, 1 IDE HDD

The SATA drives are recognized in BIOS. The IDE-DVD and IDE-HDD are not. Interestingly, when looking at the folder structure in Windows Explorer, all the devices appear. When looking at "Device Manager", all the devices appear. Everything actually functions when windows boots up. Trouble is, when powering on, the boot -screen tells me the Disk-3 and Disk-4 are missing. Then waits for me to press F1 to continue, or F2 to enter BIOS. If if press F1, windows fires up, and all works.
Trouble is, I want to schedule this to wake up on its own, run back ups, then shut off. I am learning how to do that, that is not the problem. Problem would be for the auto-turn-on, to be stuck in the BIOS screen waiting for someone to do something. That's a no-go for my intended purpose.

I have dillignetly gone through the "Master/Slave" configuration of the IDE drives. The IDE-DVD drive is Master, with a jumper, and on the end/black connector of the ribbon cable. The IDE-HDD is Slave (no jumper) and is attached to the middle/grey connector.

I have gone into Control Panel and eventually get into "Disk Manager". Here I see something that is perhaps the clue but I do not know how to rectify. The following is listed (and/or shown in the graphic panel of Disk Mgr):
>Disk 0, "Bright Blue", drive-name, Layout=Partition,... Read more

A:2 IDE drives not recognized, 2 SATA drives recognized

You need to go into the Bios. The DVD cannot be Master. It has to be set as a Slave, if connected to the same PATA cable as the IDE, which would be set as Master. You could try the two on Cable Select. But you may run into problems, because of having also the two SATA units.

I've been trying to get rid of this problem:

When my computer goes Idle my Connection drops.
I Just closed Firefox and my connection dropped.
It drops randomly and constantly ( weird huh ) every 20 minutes or random browser closes.
It happened about 4 or 5 months ago, then went about 2 or 3 months with out the problem, now its back!

My equipment:
HP Pavilion Desktop. Vista (forget the model)
Westell 2200 Modem
Linksys WRT54G2 Router (i don't use wireless)
Also i Use a wired Xbox 360

Here is the thing though:
When my PC drops connection I am still able to get online and play with my friends on Xbox Live, So I don't think it is the Modem or Router, it has to be a cord or my computer or something.. Anyway I'm getting really tired of it because every time i want to use my PC I have to reset my router to restore the connection. Anything helps!

P.S. Everything is Wired at ALL times and it Still says its connected but i cant get online, And when i go into my Status it says 356 Million Bytes received, i don't know if that means anything.

Hello Everybody!

First of all, sorry about my English!

So.. I have a super huge problem. My computer was working fine for like 2 years until Sunday. That's when I checked my computer and saw a message: Windows was unable to save file: D:/... etc.. (I'm sorry I didn't write it down.). It froze down. I couldn't do anything. I had to Reset the computer, but since that time the computer is unable to see my D: hard drive, which is a Seagate.

You should know my configuration:
I have a Compaq Presario SR1911X with 2 hard drives. One is for the Windows XP: Samsung SP2004C, the other one is for all my data (photos, music, emails, everything!): Seagate ST3200826AS. This is the one which is not working.

I took my computer apart and tried to change the cabels, just to see if it's a cabel problem. It's not. And I can hear that the HDD has power because it gives me the sound.. But the only problem, that the computer doesn't recognize it anymore.

Please Please Please people, help me!!!! I don't want to loose all my data, expecially my photos. Also, I don't have the money to get it to a data recovery comptany.

Thank you!

A:Can't see my HDD anymore!! Please Help me!!

It sounds like the hard drive died. Good thing you backed everything up, huh? Data you don't have at least 2 copies of is data you don't want to keep.

Is the drive even spinning? Did it make any noise before quitting? If there is no access at all, a data recovery company may be the only answer. But they can cost 1000's of dollars, too.

You could try some hard drive tests if they will run on it.

Free Hard Drive Testing Applications:

Manufacturer's Tests
Victoria for DOS
Victoria for Windows (Both versions of Victoria are among the best and most thorough tests available.)
HD Tune
CheckDisk 1.03 (Marks bad sectors as unusable.)
HDAT2 (Diagnostics and bad sector recovery)
MHDD Low-level Diagnostics
Bootable Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Floppy or CD Image (works on most drives)

Hello, I was giving my computer a general tidy up and it somehow caught WIN32\Gaelicum.A. This prevented me from doing anything but accessing safe mode. So i followed a couple of guides and through safe mode managed to remove the virus.
Overjoyed, I rebooted to normal mode and proceeded to log in. However after entering my password and attempting to log in i was logged straight out without so much as seeing my desktop. I also tried pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice and trying to log in via administrator. However the same thing happened.
So I thought right something has been added to my startup folder to log me out as i log in so i went to safe mode to try and remove it in that. But the same thing happened in that.
In a last ditch attempt to remove the suspected script from my startup i loaded up my Ubuntu live CD and accessed the folder through that. Only to find it empty of everything but the desktop.ini file.
I should say i have XP Home and no XP install CD or recovery CD because my OS came installed on the laptop from the manufacturer. And the recovery partition is also corrupted somehow so i cant restore. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated as although I have all my important files backed up and i could use Ubuntu for most of my needs, I need access to XP as I am working on a project for school which needs to be completed by the start of term in august and there is no equivalent software available on Ubuntu.

A:Can't Log In to XP anymore

Hi and welcome

Sorry for delay. we're quite busy here.

Bad news I'm afraid....

Win32/Gaelicum.A is a nasty file infector. It is also network aware and can spread to other machines on the network.
Even though your antivirus program detects it and can quarentine/heal some of the files it will be near impossible to clean up entirely.

I suggest to take this machine off the network entirely untill you can either clean it or you re-install everything. Your other machines should be thourally checked by a couple good virus scanners too.

With a file infector such as this the only way I would trust the system is to do a full format/reinstall of your operating system and all your programs.
Even if antivirus can heal many; often the file is corrupted beyond repair and wont work after virus code is removed. You cannot even trust your antivirus program as parts of it will be infected as well.

I do not suggest backing up any of your programs because this virus looks for and infects all executables on all drives. Your backups will need to come from known good cds or dvds or re-downloaded from the internet.

Your documents, mp3s & pictures should be fine to back up.

Sophos description (they have different name)

If you don't have the resorces to format/re-install we can try & fix but I cannot guarenty our success or system integrety afterward.

Wish I had a better answer...

I have tech service through the ISP I have. I noticed that Chrome was running kind of sluggish and figured, since it was there, I contacted tech support. The tech removed Malwarebyte, Super Anti-Spyware, Advanced System Care, two registry programs I had and Baidu browser and Baidu Speed up. He said almost everything could be done with programs already available in Windows 10. He tried to show me but he was so darn fast I could hardly keep up. I told him among all the programs only Super Anti-Spyware found 470 tacking cookies! He said that it was OK and they were harmless and I could access them from another Windows cleanup selection. Are all these programs that are 3rd party out there junk? When I used them I found so many problems, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. But to have them be deemed mostly useless, he did say MOSTLY useless, I am really confused. Been messing with computers for over 20 years and always used 3rd party Virus, spy ware and optimization tools regularly. Are they just programs that cue into certain functions of Windows and isolate them to make a program that is already in Windows but makes it sort of a short cut or are they really valuable? I am reinstalling a couple of things the tech deleted whether he liked it or not. As for the rest, I just don't know.
I would think that the writers and programmers of your particular OS would include such protection but I think it's kinda like guys in prison. They have all day every day looking for that one weakness in... Read more

As the title says,

Where can I find XP these days?

I'm wanting to put it on the HTPC I'm building, simply because it's cheaper than Win7. Would prefer XP Pro for the IR support, but not neccesary. I'm working with a hauppauge HVR-1600-MC, it supports XP SP2 up through 7x64, so it's just a matter of price....

I know i could find Vista dirt cheap, but i wouldn't want it for the same reason as the next guy.

At the same time, I don't know if the board (GA-MA78LMT-S2) is supported by XP?

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here, I got into a situation with my computer that I don't know anymore how to go on... hope I can get some help here.

It started when I was searching for a little freeware to change my desktop wallpaper automatically. After being redirected few times I found and downloaded "Desktop Wallpaper Timer 1.6.9.exe" (don't remember the web address, I was not attentive). I've scanned it with NOD32 and no threads were found.

After I tried to run it, a disaster began.

First I've noticed the message in the taskbar: "Your security center service is turned off" when I tried to turn it on again it was not possible. Says simply the security center service can't be started. I opened regcleaner by jouni vuorio to remove the new thing, under "software" was written that the FirstRRRun has been installed.

I removed it and than:
- NOD32 simply dissapeared - message: The program doesn't exist
- The same story with Spybot Search&Destroy
- Same with Registry Mechanic
- Not able anymore to connect the internet: "wireless wizard can not be started" (I'm writing this from another computer)

I tried to reinstall NOD32 - Not possible: Message "106 Error Occured while extracting archive file"

Can not reinstall spybot either

With another computer I've searched for AV programs like AVG free, Kaspersky trial, F-prot trial... None of them can be installed. All give messag... Read more

Seems the problem has been resolved. I've used no-need-to-install AV Dr.Web. It found and removed 2 worms Win32.HLLM.Beagle. After that I was able to reinstall all programs and fix all other problems.

It all started when I was defragging last night. I got a couple BSOD's while doing the defrag but idiotically I just ignored them, restarted my pc and continued to defrag. After the third BSOD restart is where I died inside. When starting my pc, after the Windows XP loading screen it goes to a black screen and stays there. I try to go into safe mode but it freezes when loading drivers. I tried to do a repair with the Windows XP Setup CD but after it loads the drivers it goes to a BSOD with the following STOP message 0x0000007B. I've searched online for help and have used many utility cd's and diagnostic tools with no success (P.S. one of the utilities is a live cd and it BSOD's when starting up). There's nothing wrong with the RAM or Hard Drive, the partition table and boot sector are fine, the MBR and MFT are fine. I plugged my HDD into another computer as a secondary drive and I can explore the contents of my HDD (while using the primary drive in that computer). I suspect there may be a problem with a controller because I put a backup hard drive in my computer and tried installing Windows XP but I get the BSOD again; it's really weird because I used a SATA connection for my original drive and an IDE connection on my backup drive (is this a northbridge/southbridge issue?!). Is there any way to fix this (preferably without formatting or buying any new parts)?! And if there really is something wrong with a part and/or controller, why did none of the diagnostic tools recognize ... Read more

well there is a technical way but I doubt you're up for because it uses linux however, a simple way is to reinstall the version of windows but without formatting the harddrive this should fix the issue. you will gain access to the computer as if it were normal you can backup your documents, music, etc. and then reformat the computer.

I don't know where to post this now. I have no clue anymore what is wrong with this system. With the money I have wasted into this thing I could have bought a top of the line gaming rig by now. But now its too late to just pull out and leave this thing alone.

Anyways suddenly I am getting this problem(problem number 156?).

This is how it started: I updated my video card drivers to the latest ATI drivers 9.12. I started playing the game DIRT2 for a couple hours. I finally closed down DIRT2 and suddenly I was getting this problem: The PC would get a split second freeze every couple of seconds. Along with this split second freeze is coupled with this High Pitched Looping sound like when a program locks up and you get that looping sound until you can close out the program. This freeze up is basically noticable in the form of the mouse freeze up for a split second, then it moves again and then split second freeze again.

Ok, that is just the start of the problems. I am also suddenly having random issues with connecting to the internet via my wireless. Before this problem occured I was able to connect flawlessly. My wireless adapter will be displayed as "Connected" as always but I cannot open a web browser page. My windows live was still connected for 10 minutes one time while I was trying to figure why I can't connect to firefox. Then suddenly windows live crashed!

I thought that my problems were coming from the faulty hard drive that I jus... Read more

Hi there,

I have an old Dell XPS M1530 and wanted to salvage the hard drive, buy an enclosure and use it as an external hard drive. This is what i typed in:

select disk 0
create partition primary
select partition 1
format fs=ntfs quick

Do i need to do anymore? or can i just put it in an enclosure and use it as a hard drive? and will i have the 320 GB on the drive to use?

A:Do i need to do anymore?

I think you are OK.

But I'd go back into diskpart and look at the results.

Probably with these commands

List disk (should show disk 0)
Select disk 0
List part (should show partition 1)
Select part 1

Do you see a part 1 with the expected size?

If so, you are good to go, but you can always recheck in Windows Disk Management after you get it connected.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you have to assign a drive letter in diskpart.

I have been having some problems with it. I recently found that I had a virtumonde virus on the computer, after speaking to the IT guys at my job they told me what to do to remove the pesky little problem. I thought that I did the right thing cause it started running instead of freezing on me when I turned it on. But what I realized is that now the computer is working alot slower than before. I ran Ad-Aware, and Spybot and they located some critical things on the computer. I also had a pop up about mdmcls32.exe. I checked on the computer to see what it was.. Found out that its a trojan. I'm just tired right now of all this crap. Can someone please help me. I've deleted some from the registry and I've ran Spybot more than 1 million times. Hi, welcome to TSF.

I'm currently at work so my assitance will be brief:

I want you to search for these files on your computer and make note of if they exist. If they do, we'll need to delete them in Safe Mode:

Enable the Viewing of Hidden Files, and then search:

Reboot your computer to Safe Mode and then delete any of those found above, includining this folder:

C:\Program Files\winupdates\

while in Safe Mode run HJT and fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

Reboot and report back with a fresh HJT scan.

Hopefully someone can help me out because I am a novice when it comes to computer skills. In the last few weeks or so my internet has been acting up and keeps crashing on me witha message reading that I have had some serious error and needs to close, allowing me to report it to microsoft. I ran AVG 8.0 (Free edition)and Spydot. They seemed like they got rid of things and everyone was going okay but my internet was still acting up.

Now, in the last few days that problem has gone away but I believe have malware on my computer. I keep getting pop ups from avg saying trojans like Vundo.FJ and BHO.HYT are on my computer and should be fixed, which AVG supposably does.

Currently, I keep getting new windows of internet explorer opening, kind of like popups, that I never did anything to that are from really random sites. I am not sure how that helps but I figured I would throw it in here.

From my little knowledge of computers I used "run" with msconfig and noticed that in my startup it says that I have these three things that I know should not be there. They are:
1. ruyopaku
2. tukuhegu
3. hagijifa or metadomo (It keeps changing between the two for some reason)
They are all rundll32.exe, whatever that means.

This is what I did to get rid of it, besides running my two spy programs, so hopefully I didn't screw anything up.

"anymore" being the key word. I have Windows 2000. I used to be able to get into bios by hitting either the F2 or the F8 key; I don't remember which at the moment. Additionally, during boot-up or whatever it's called, there used to be a message on the screen instructing the user to hit F2 or F8 for bios, but that message is no longer there; or I can't see it if it is.

When I hit F8 now, all I get is a screen listing options such as Safe Mode, but no option for bios. When I hit F2, I get no result at all; the machine just continues to boot. I am both confounded and frustrated; confounded in that I used to be able to get into bios with no problem; frustrated because now for some reason I can't. And I need to. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Dell PC, but it's out of warranty, so I can't ask Michael for help. Thanks.

It started yesterday.

My Win. 7 occasionally froze. It was frustrating but I didn't think much of it.
Once, when it froze, I got frustrated and turned it off with the power button. It kept happening.

it was still happening, so i went into safe mode. I wasnt going to do anything, I just thought maybe going into safe mode and then restarting would help. i did, however, go to control panel --> system --> advanced system settings to adjust for best performance, because i thought it was a slow computer issue.

when i pressed 'advanced system settings', it said it wasnt found. huh. strange.
then i looked and saw that i couldnt open Windows Explorer either. I couldnt open ANY of my preinstalled windows programs (notepad, snipping tool, etc.)
this was in safe mode.

So I restarted and guess what, it was JUST LIKE IN SAFE MODE! before i went to safe mode it wasnt like that...
i have no internet connection either.

i cant do system restore because in safe mode it says there are disk errors and i should check but then it syas that it cant and it has to schedule for the next time i log on. so i log on (normally) but it never checks.

in normal mode i cant open system restore AT ALL.

also, in normal mode i can open cmd, but not as admin. says it wasnt found. so right now i cant do ANYTHING. I can, however, use the programs I installed (games, software...)

please help
this is urgent i dont know what to do

sorry for my english

Hello all.

I have an Asus L4L, and just today when I inserted a DVD into the drive, the usual spinning action took place but the film did not auto start.

I opened my DVD software and it showed no DVD Drive.
I looked in Windows My Computer and no DVD Drive was shown.
I looked in Device Manager and now there is no sign of a DVD Drive.
I clicked on Add/Remove hardware and it cannot find the DVD Drive.
Then I rebooted and looked in the BIOS and now the Drive is no longer there.

Is it time to replace the drive?

Hi everyone

I need some serious help here

The story is a little long
3 weeks ago, I had my computer working, and suddenly, it stopped booting windows, not even the logo show on screen, also no error code or anything. I couldn't enter diagnostic or safe mode (just bios). I had to format and reinstall windows 8 because any restore options worked.

Then a week ago, again it stopped booting, no error code, no anything, but this time, it bothered me that just 2 weeks before happened the same, so I started checking everything, so I took my Hard Drive, and put it in another computer, and it worked with no problem, windows booted, just not in my computer.

I started to look for solutions, and one was to use the command bootrec /scanos, and i got suprised that no windows installation was found. Eventually I had to speak with Microsoft tech, and they said it was my components because they were old, and they actually are (8 years), but I wasn't convinced that was it.

Before getting Windows 8 Pro, I had installed Windows 8 release preview, and it worked for months with no problem.

I thought that of course the fulll version would be heavier for my pc, so I installed Windows 7 again (had it installed for years before w8 release preview).

And now the bad part

after a couple of hours having the W7 installed, it won't boot either.

The same symptoms from W8, windows won't boot, not even the logo shows, although, with a little difference, now it shows a "Missing ... Read more

Building my own computer is starting to seem like a worse and worse idea. Problems are increasing almost exponentially.

First, specs:

~HD 4870X2
~Core i7 920
~3x2 gigs GSKILL DDR3 (1066 I -think-)
~MSI X58 Eclipse
~PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W (Black, Quad, I forget the order)
~Vista Home Premium 64 bit

So here's the list of stuff wrong:

~BSOD - ntfs.sys
~Pretty mucha any game that stresses the system will crash, did not resolve with a driver reinstallation
~Playing anything with Windows Media Player messed up the monitors colors/turned everything gray. This was fixed
~Sometimes playing a game won't cause it to crash, but the screen will go black. The system's still running/on, there's just no video input
~The GPU is running hotter than it used to - 78C at 70% fan
~Firefox likes to crash a lot, but that could be unrelated

Is tehre ANY chance this is just a centralized problem? None of this was an issue in the past; everything just sort of popped up.

A:So many problems I don't even know what it is anymore

hi for the ntfs i would try sfc /scnw
for the memory try downloading memtest86+ iso file and burn to a cd use imgburn then put in your drive and reboot and run for a min of 4 hours more would be better.
is the gpu needing a fresh application of thermal paste or possibly a new fan

Hope someone can help - I have had this problem for a while now. I have saved a number of albums to the 'My Albums' folder (I have XP).
When I click on the folder all the album tabs come up, I then click on an individual album and it list the tracks - so far so good. The problem is that when I click on any of the tracks...nothing happens. For some reason all the tracks have the Musicmatch logo next to them, probably because I downloaded it at some stage.

If I go to Windows Media Player all my albums are listed there and play - also if I right click a track listed in 'My Album' folder (ie the Music Match ones) and select 'Open with Windows Media Player' it is OK.

The problem I have is that apart from the inconvenience of going back and forward to different folders - I am now using a program that can place background music when burning digital photographs - the software has a browse button and I have the same problem ie when I browse to 'My Album' folder nothing plays. Is there a way I can get all the tracks that I have in 'My Album' folder to use WMA as the default player, and get rid of the Music Match system.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was so desperate I acrually disbled it for a few seconds and tried to download, but that didn't work either. Has anyone got any ideas?

TIA, Kathi

A:I can't download anything anymore

I just found my answer after much searching. I'll post it here in case anyone else encounters the same problem.

Zone Alarm Pro

Double-click the Zone Alarm icon in the system tray in the lower right corner of the screen. With ZA open, click on "Privacy" button in the left hand part of the screen. Then click on the "Main" tab at the upper right. Once you're in, look in the third section titled "Mobile Code Control". Click the "Custom" button in this section. Four menu items should appear. The last one should say something like "Block mime-type integrated objects". Uncheck the box by this item, then click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box. It should not be necessary to disable any other ZA privacy settings.

The firewall (kerio) shows info going in and out.

Both firefox and expl give page not found.

The only time I saw this was when my firewall was blocking communication.

I can't get anything on the net when I'm off line though.

Some of my Cd's have suddenly refused to open on my system, they are all my own burnt copies of Jpeg images, some are ok others not! I have tried them in the DVD & Cd Rom Drives.
I have cleaned the drive and discs, my system tries to read the cd's, which causes all other programmes to freeze, I can't get into 'my computer' or 'run' mode, it all locks up until I eject?
I have tried one of the Cd's on another PC, and it works fine.
Has anyone any suggestions please?

It was taking a while (I have lots of games) so I switched the ethernet cable that was going in the modem from the one that goes into computer 1 (mine) to the one from computer 2, so my dad could use the internet. When I was done, I plugged mine back in, but the internet wasn't working. Oh well, I thought, maybe it'll work when I reformat.

Blablabla, I reformat and install XP. But now the internet still won't work. I've tried with two different cables, plus the one that computer 2 uses. When the modem is connected to my computer, the lights for "Power" and "DSL" come on, but not "Ethernet" and a flashing "Activity", like it does when it's connected to the 2nd computer. I'm pretty sure this means it's just not connected to the computer (#1)... Except it is.

Since it's not something with the cables, and the modem works fine for the 2nd computer, what exactly could be the problem? I have a new motherboard. I got it like a week or two ago. Plus it was working even today.

Thanks in advance

A:Can't connect anymore

Did you install the drivers for the new motherboard?

I had a major virus issue and some of my files might be corrupted.i wanted to do a clean reinstall but now my dvd drive (LG GCC-4481B) does not read anything anymore.I thought the drive might have gone bad so i tried another and it does the same.the cd works fine in my laptop.I updated the firmware for the dvd drive but it dosen't help. When i put the cd in it spins (and flashes) for about 20 seconds then stops, the cd is empty according to windows. It also won't boot on cd , which is what i want to do to reinstall windows completely...
Any hints ?

A:CD not reading anything anymore

Had the same problem with pioneer, tried everything. Then after a week of struggling reformated the c partition, and the minute the previous windows disappeared cd was working! I was confused but it worked.

I have a Toshiba L70-B 12z.
Couple of months ago I did experience some problems while gaming (it did crash a lot).
I brought it by the shop who sent it back to toshiba to repair.
They replaced the motherboard because apparently 2 of the 4 cpu's where broken.

When I did get it back I found out my internal speakers weren't working anymore. So I sent it back ones more.
This time, the 2 internal speakers weren broken (how, I don't get) and also replaced. Mind you, it is a 1,5 year old notebook.

When I got it back this time, DTS sound was not functional anymore.
I get the error 'Failed to find apo endpoint'.
I did try to uninstall DTS en re?nstall, but when tries to re?nstall I would get the error 'This product does not support DTS-processing'.
I tried various DTS drivers (older and newest) without succes.

It's very frustrating, since before '**** started hitting the fan' everything worked perfectly fine. DTS sound was working perfectly, and I really liked the sound. I also tried a lot of internet solutions. Re?nstalling windows 10, going back to windows 8.1 (since my laptop originally came with windows 8.1), uninstall, re?nstall and updating sound drivers (from realtek), install the audio enhancement driver, updating BIOS via servicestation, all the recommended drivers for my laptop, all the windows updates. Nothing works.

I really don't know what I can do more for making DTS work again.
I hope someone here can help me.

I loaded 7 about 4 months ago, fine no problem, got all updates, was genuine with key that was entered, two days ago, got the popups and not genuine watermark, does microsoft change keys for authenticity? Never had this problem with xp or vista.

A:key not valid anymore

A few weeks ago MS began a new verification process, it may have bugs, and your notification may not be correct. On the other hand there may be an actual problem with your activation. Call the MS center to be sure.

Without knowing the facts it is impossible to give more information. Did you buy your OS from a reputable dealer or from an individual etc. In any event a call will be your solution. With the number that I gave you, the opportunity will present itself to input your key number with a touch tone phone. It may be activated immediately, if a problem does exsist a rep will talk to you. They are REALLY, known for their professionalism and help.

I have 2 seagate hard drives, 1 80 gig, and 1 160 gig. I first had my PC running with just the 80 gig and it worked fine as master. Then I got the 160 gig plugged it in as slave and my PC knew it was there and connected to the PC but it just wasn't in "My Computer" and usable I guess you could say. So one of my friends directly connected to my computer over the internet and did something to my PC and got it working just fine (I just don't know what he did) I just formatted my PC today and the original 80 gig works but it's back to the way it was where the 160 gig isn't in "My computer" but if I go into device manager or hardware on my pc it shows it on there...what do I do?

A:Worked Before, But Not Anymore

Windows XP does not recognize anything over 100 gigs i believe and that could be your problem. Most hard drives come with a cd that modifies windows XP to recognize this hard drive, my hard drive was a 200 gig and windows xp would not recognize it till i loaded the western digital cd. Go to the hard drive manufacturer's site and see if you can find some driver that will enable your computer to recognize your hard drive and hopefully that should work.

Hello... I get a BSOD allmost everday .. first i thougt i was my memory modules ( ram ) so i got me a some from a buddy , but it was the same problem , then he told me to change my HDD , so i did that and after 1 days the same problem came ( BSOD ) so now i dont know what to do , so i hope u can help me out...
Windows 7 ultimate x 64 , full retail , my system is about 3 years old , but my GX card is only 1 year.
If yoy need to know more plz tell me.

A:BSOD every day , cant take it anymore

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you... Read more

Well, I now have an unbootable computer. I don't know what's wrong. When it tries to boot, it gets a BSOD, and it goes by too fast for me to possibly read it. I heard you can change this option by getting into a special menu with F8, but F8 doesn't do anything for me. I heave the option of loading Startup Repair, too, but its SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW! There's no way this can be right! (Maybe I need to put the harddrive on an eternal reader and grab the dumps.)
Prior to this, the OS was laggy. I was playing music with Winamp, and it k.....ept pausing. Prior to that, I had a mess where all the programs became unresponsive and I had to force a reboot. Now, this may be unrelated, but prior to all of this, I had not one but two harddrives start to fail. One of them did fail. Now, I'm being good as far as I know. I have a surge protector on this stuff. Is there a surge coming from within? Is it time for a new motherboard, and is that the only thing that will save me? Am I smarter than I look, or not?
I'm on a budget. I really don't want to have to replace everything if I can avoid it.
I'm running WIndows 7 on a Gigabyte H55M.

A:Can't boot up anymore.

I would run hardware diagnostics first to check for a failing  hard drive. Most computers have built in tests that can be accessed by pressing a key when the manufacture splash screen appears.

Spysweeper keeps removing 20 or so traces of these and they are immediately replaced.

Spysweeper removed a LOT of files but is unable to find the Malicious "queen" who is hiding somewhere and replacing them.

I got infected as soon as I hooked up the new puter. The very first Internet call !

Brand new puter, AND the very first call ...

While NORTON Internet Security, McAfee Anti-Spyware and Windows Update were updating themselves ...!

I'm about to call the suicide line, this is so freaking frustrating ...

Please, I need some expert help to take care of this ...

A:I Can't handle it Anymore ...,

A little more info on what happened:

I managed to update Norton Internet Security online and it found some of the files. It removed the Viruses but refused to remove the spyware.

Then McAfee Anti-Spyware removed some but NOT all the spyware traces.

So I resorted to using SpySweeper's latest edition.

And it removed a LOT, but can not remove the core problem.

So, I'm back in square one.

This is the computer I use in my music room. I use it mainly for recording music in my home studio. I also have internet access on it. Startup has become superslow and lately everything has slowed and other problems are occurring now. (things shutting down , computer just hanging, etc.) I think I'm probably loaded with spyware. I'll include my HJT log.

would you post the following tests

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG , Webroot etc

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
From the notep... Read more

I have a problem with internet explorer or maybe with my computer.
Everything works fine except one thing. For more than 3 weeks I can not open one website anymore (Pirate Bay).I have thought that there is a problem with the website but 2 friends of mine have no problem get that website and I have tried to use 2 different computers and I have got no problems opening that website. With my computer I always got a message:
504 gateway time out!I have tried to reset Internet explorer, checked restricted sites in my internet explorer and nothing helped.
Can anybody tell me what is wrong?

A:Can not get that website anymore!

Have you tried temporarily disabling your firewall?

Also, try pinging the site?

504 errors are not usually 'your' fault so if problems persist, try contacting the sites support. You could also try updating your link or loading from a search engine??

Last night while using my computer, the video froze, but I was still able to use move the mouse pointer on the screen. The computer would not respond to any keyboard commands, ctrl-alt-del resulted in the "starting application" cursor ("arrow+hourglass") for about 1 second.
After a minute or so, the system just powered off. Pushing the power button had no effect.
I noticed that the fan in the power supply was still spinning. I unplugged the PC, plugged it back in, and the power light came on, fans spun up --- and then it powered down again, again with the power supply fan spinning. It contued to spin for 30-45 seconds.
It remains in that state. The power switch has no effect at all unless the machine is unplugged, then it will provide power for .5 seconds or so.
