Will upgrading the bios firmware on a Latitude D630 delete the bios admin password?

Q: Will upgrading the bios firmware on a Latitude D630 delete the bios admin password?

I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?

I updated the BIOS on my D600 to the latest version A16, last released 2005. Is a BIOS from the D630 released 2008 usable? They seem extremely similar.

A:Dell Latitude d630 BIOS usable on D600?

unless they are the same MB, I would seriously doubt that the BIOS are compatible. Also, are the bios not working on your current mobo? If they are working, there is no need to update.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 and the motherboard died, It's out of warrenty so I bought a Motherboard on ebay. The Bios Service Tag does not match the number on the bottom so I would like to chage it to the correct one. How can I do this?

I read about a DST CD = Dell Service Technician CD that has this option but I can't find one.

It's not a real important thing but when I use the Dell System ID application it reads the Bios Service tag and not the real system tag that Is registered to me.

A:Concern of Upgrading RAM on Dell Latitude D630 (HELP)

hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!!

considering that your Lappy is windows XP, it may be time to consider a new PC rather than upgrading an unsupported XP machine. but i can definiltely understand not wanting to just de-commission a PC that should still run well with that Core2 in it.

RAM is a data hold area that is frequently accessed in a cache, to avoid hard drive accessing, which is considerably slower..everytime the PC is reset or powered down, the RAM resets and is ready for a new session to issue data to it for a temporary access channel. there are a number of options for you. you could consider a thorough backup of data on an external media and a windows 7 home premium 64 bit clean install which would wipe your hard drive clean. those windows licenses are around $100 though.  70gb hard disk space is plenty for a casual user that isn't storing massive media files and such. but most users  aren't comfortable with only around 50gb hard drive space free (windows x64 needs around 20gb itself and then needs another 10gb just to run in spec)

or, you could go with the windows 7 32 bit, which is fine also, and won't be so  demanding of resources like hard drive space and RAM. the 4gb RAM is  the maximum that can be read with a 32 bit OS system though and that is what you have so you will be fine there.

As I'm sure, all of you guys helping out with this issue are probably tired of hearing the same thing, so sorry for the bother, I got me a D610 used, called Dell to transfer ownership, they confirmed, it's not stolen but asked me for the original owners name, no clue since this things been around.
I'm considering changing out the motherboard with one of those $150.00 ebay ones, but thought I'd see if anyone was willing to take a shot. Keep in mind I've read almost every thread on here regarding this issue.

Hi Djboy,

Is it the grey screen password at power on or just the BIOS password you need.

I ask as you say you have read all the threads on here, so you will know there are 2 types of passwords (actually there is 4 ) but you dont say what you need help with.

As you may have read, member name removed can supply 595B passwords (something I cant yet) or you can go down the shorting method, which despite looking scary has been performed by a few thousand people, I say a few thousand as the hits on my site(addy in my tag) stand to date at over 7000 , I like to think this means at least half of these have followed the shorting guide.

Let me know i'll help as best I can....

A:Dell Latitude D620 BIOS Password

Short answer: You need the original password.
That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

I hope that someone will be able to help me with a BIOS password for a Dell D600.
The service tag is JGY741J-595B.
The HDD lock (of which I know the password) says #*****3MZ319-595B.

Story: I took the laptop over from my company when all computers were replaced by a newly hired service provider (IBM). The previous IT service provider had put in the password and left. Obviously these guys cannot be traced anymore to get the password or a bill for this particular laptop of a few years old (if existing, guess they bought them in one big order). So Dell does not help.

In fact it is not such a big problem, just annoying. Obviously I know the HDD password, deleted the old windows, ran FDISK to remove the DOS partition, and installed Linux Ubuntu from CD. The annoying thing is that I cannot change the date/time (is blocked).

Thanks if someone can help out.

Hi There,

I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.

Any ideas? I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.

Thank you so much.

Its service tag is f86mgc1-595b

I was able to remove one password with removing the cmos battery, but it still has the main passwords in the bios locked. The unlock -setup- password, admin password are locked. I reset the system password by removing the cmos battery.

We'd be most greatful.

I've installed that but NOPE ... still has USB problems eg stuff like usb (2) keyboard not working. BUT unplug/replug the dock at USB C connection at laptop and it works !! (but this is a PITA and probably will wreck the socket in the long run).
I guess my point is please sync the support page and this support forum if you can, we all love Dell but would appreciate some reciprocating :-)

A:Dell TB15 Desktop Dock - Step-by-step driver/firmware/BIOS installation instructions for XPS, Latitude and Precision notebooks [UPDATED 04-22-16]

Unfortunately I see no updates to firmware or drivers from what I already have for the TB15 and my XPS 15 9550. I have experienced issues with the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver (generating BSOD's) and the mini-Displayport connection from the TB15 to an external monitor (screen blanks out). Time is running out for me. I will be forced to return my TB15 this week.

I have a new puter in has an admin password as it was a corp. castoff.
I have entered the password and get OK.

And then I am in bios, Hp nx6110, f10 to get to enter password.

I have the win 7 installation disc in the dvd drive, and now for the big question. Now that I'm in how to I tell this beast to install?

This was an ebay buy, I hope I have not been burned...
Thanks for your assist.

A:Bios admin password I have, OS not.

If you are able to get past the BIOS password you should be able to boot from the DVD and begin the install process. In the BIOS you may need to set the boot order to boot from CD/DVD first.

I have a c640 which needs a primary bios password, and it appears to me that with a properly designed jumper wire assembly terminals 3 and 6 of the 24c04 chip can be accessed from the ram cover opening without further disassembly. They appear to be the third pair in. the picture I have from the "dellpass manual" is confusing, as the orientation of the enlarged view of the chip appears to be upside down as compared to the view which locates it. Can anyone who has done it confirm this?
Thanks for any input...

Our firm has had many Latitude e5520, 30, 40 and 50 computers over the past 6 years.  I always set up the BIOS system password option.  We also use the Dell port replicators with multiple external monitors.  When the user turns on the computer using the power button on the port replicator the BIOS password prompt screen would appear on the external monitor so they can enter the password.  We have recently purchased 5 new Latitude e5570 computers.  I set up the BIOS password on these new computers just like I have done in the past on the older models.  However it seems that the Dell logo and the BIOS password prompt does not appear on an external monitor.  I removed the computer from the port replicator and connected a VGA monitor to the external monitor port on the back of the e5570 and still the BIOS password screen does not appear.  I have to open the laptop to view the BIOS password prompt to enter the password then the external monitor will display the Windows 7 boot up screen.  I spoke with Dell tech support and they said that this is normal.  How can this be normal when all Latitude model e5520, 5530, 5540 and 5550 never had this problem. I even downloaded the most recent BIOS update and that did not fix the issue.   I cannot have the user open the laptop just to see the BIOS password prompt.  I told Dell support that something is not right with their BIOS software but they again said the e5570 is working ... I can not access any drives (CD, Hard-drive, floppy-drive) nor can I access CMOS-Setup. I simply receive a Message: "" This computer system, # 52WJP01-595B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password.
Please type in the primary or administrator password and press <Enter> ""
I noticed that the website postings mentioned " latitude.exe " (password generator file/program) which I tried but it is geared to only receiving 5 (five) characters for the Service_Tag_#. I also saw mention of Latitude_MasterPW.exe as being able to generate a Latitude password in response to receiving the Service_Tag_# as an input instruction but I have not seen that anywhere for downloading. Where can Latitude_MasterPW.exe (password generator file) be downloaded and does anyone know if it would solve my problem and work for my model (C600/C500) Latitude?
Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

A:BIOS Admin Password Reset

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot.  This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 115 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K

In the process of installing windows 7 Professional I discovered that I could not get into the BIOS or setup because it was password protected. I?ve tried a number of things including installing HP ProtectTools Security stuff and it seems that all that has done is to create more login passwords. I can now get into setup but as a user but not as an administrator and so I cannot change password. There is also another screen that shows up where I must enter a password and I?m not sure if that?s happening because of the HP Protect Tools that I installed and then removed or because of something in the BIOS. I?ve uninstalled HP Protect Tools and reinstall windows 7 and I still see both password screens. I attempted to update the BIOS using a file downloaded from the HP support website but cannot because I don?t know the admin password for access the BIOS.

Hello all hardware wizards, sorry to take your precious time .

I just purchased HP NC8230 laptop from eBay. It's really great laptop. The laptop not require boot password and so it reaches to windows XP, but unfortunately I discovered that its bios is admin protected, therefore I can't access bios and make any modification. I know that these business laptops have extra bios protection and therefore it's not so easy task to reset their password.

Can someone, that have experience with this kind of laptops, help me? It would be very appreciated.

A:HP 6730B bios admin password problem

hi,
I asked for the same problem in this forum but my threat was deleted with the suggestion to read the Forum FAQs.
I read them but I didn't find why they did it. So I want repeat the question adding it to the yours one:

HP CompaQ nx9005
hash code [ 15656]
I need the system password

I wrote and I just wrote again at the hp forum about it whitout any help, and the hp chat doesn't start because of a bag (I'm not the only one having this problem).

I read all messages of the reference topic about the same problem (as suggested) but I didn't find my needs.
I think I will have to ask about it a lot of time. Hope to find someone who can help me.
thanks

We have two XPS12 9Q33 units that have the BIOS Admin password set, but no one left in the department knows the password. We've tried all the normal variants to no avail.
Yesterday I spoke with out of warranty support, and the gentleman was unable to help as from his documentation this computer has a Phoenix BIOS, while in reality all the units we have are AMI BIOS. We have 12 of these units, but only these two have the admin password set.
Does anyone know of a way to reset the BIOS ADMIN password? Not the system password, we have that, it's specifically the ADMIN password. Support yesterday was very frustrating in trying to get them to simply listen to what our problem was so I gave up on that and came here.

A:ProBook 6570b BIOS admin password reset

Hi, Unfortunately I'm not aware of any 3rd party utilities that work with this particular Model, however if you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. Regards, DP-K

so, i have a 6530B that i got from a relative, and i must say, it is extremly difficult to work with... I want to do a factory restore, and to do so i need to get through the bios admin password. I cant even boot from a USB to do a fresh install... Would it be easier to have HP support help me with the bios password, or should i just put in a new HD and do a fresh install, using another pc as a surrogate for the install(cant get past bios on tis one)? from what ive read spending the day trying to find a way around the password, that there really is no workaround... Kind of obnoxious... but its a business machine so makes sense...
