Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

Q: Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

A: Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

Ok, I could fix it after following instructions from this page:

The Txf-log had to be removed and afterwards I was able to use the repair function of the Vista DVD again.

I tried updating the BIOS of my Sony Vaio CS-17G notebook to the latest updates given at the Sony Support Website.

Everything went fine, got message 'BIOS updated successfully', 'Press OK to shut down.'

Pressed ok & now nothing's okay. The system is not booting up!

Tried the following troubleshooting, but no luck;
1) Pressing F2 & F8 keys.
2) Disconnected the AC Adapter, removed the battery & pressed the power button for 60secs.

Pls assist.

Hi....I hope I'm in the right place. Please forgive my being so technologically "handicapped" and for this being such a long one. I'm trying to find out if I need to update my BIOS or not. All of this started because, for no apparent reason, my touch screen stopped working, sometimes dots come/go, popping up all over my screen beginning at startup while the internet, if I go there during this time, appears to take on a life of its own. This is because the mouse pointer does it's own thing, clicking where ever it wants.  Also during these "fits", the Windows icon in the taskbar on my desktop disappears and I have to just hold down on the power button to shut down. (Is that called a "hard reboot"?).Does any of this even pertain to my needing a BIOS update?According to the information I provided, "Software and driver results" from the HP Customer Support website indicated that there is a BIOS update," F.19 Rev.A"for my particular product and model number. According to my System Information, I currently have "Insyde F.18". When I checked on the HP Support Assistant that came with my notebook however, and it says I only need one update which is for the "HP Wireless Button Driver", whatever THAT is.I'm so confused about so much and I hope this makes sense to whomever can help me.  Thank you, in advance, for any advice you can give.Julie

Well I've seriously stuffed up, I'll give you the long story so you get all the information

Well after I installed my 8800GT, I began having stuttering problems with a game, ut2004. Others had the problem and most say its a driver issue and will be fixed in the future, someone wrote to nvidia support and they suggested updating bios, chipset and getting a patch for the game, so I updated the chipset, 945p, easy then I went to update the bios, after downloading bios 3.7, a command prompt came up with lots of settings and commands and warnings, so I decided I'd play it safe and just do the msi live update. So I installed the msi update and its first update was to update my bios, as it finished it restarted my computer, everything seemed fine until my computer wouldn't go past the original POST page, the one with the motherboard logo on it. No beeps sounded and pressing tab or del opened a black page that says

AMIBIOS (C) 2005 American Megatrends, Inc
MSI 945PL Neo A7236IMS V1.9 Date: 08/07/06 08:05:52
Intel (R) Core(TM) 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz , Speed:
(C) American Megatrends, Inc.

The page also has a live update symbol on the top right corner.

I have a hunch that the live update fed me the wrong bios, and thats why the computer won't boot. I dont have a floppy and putting my windows or motherboard cd in doesnt do a thing. Restarting doesnt and turning off and on doesnt. I have limited my options ... Read more

A few days ago i found an update for my BIOS. It was installing without any problems, but around halfway of the intallation, a power surge caused my computer to shutdown. When the computer booted back up I got this message. This is all I get, I can't access the BIOS or anything pass this
I tried removing the CMOS battery, I also tried to cross the jumpers, all with no luck. This only leads me to believe the BIOS itself is corrupted. I heard there is a way to fix the BIOS by using something called flashing. Could someone show me how to do this?

A:Bios update gone wrong

Flashing your BIOS is what you where doing. Depending on your system you may be able to use the Boot CD to restore the BIOS to it's factory default. If your PC is older then you will need to contact the manufacture (or a local non big box repair shop) and get a new BIOS ROM chip.

if the flasher let you revert to a previous version, yes, try it.(not always the best thing to do, reverting to a previous BIOS version) if not and your system is stable, i would leave it as it is.

Hello,This is my first time on a forum and I have no idea what "location" to select for this type of issue.  I will try to make this short and simple.  There were a bunch of updates from HP, one of which was a Bios update.  A bunch of others had issues updating.  Ever since then, my wifi keeps dropping, when my service and all other devices are fine.  I try to restart and it hangs there for hours, so I have to hold the power button to shut it off and turn it back on.  When I close my notebook, it will not go to sleep, hibernate or anything I set it to.  Instead it shuts the screen off, hard drive sounds as if it is still running and the computer heats up and power button light stays on.  Again, I have to hold the power button do shut it off.  I have a Windows 10 HP 14 Pavillion was advertised as windows 10 ready, so I don't think it is that since I did that update in July and this just started happening after the bios update.  Is anyone else having the same issues?  Any suggestions to anyone who may have resolved them?

A:bios update gone wrong

You could try a BIOS rollback to previous version.  1-Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key.2-When the menu appears, tap F2 for System Diagnostics.3-In the list of items will be BIOS or Firmware Management.Use the arrow key to move down & highlight it.Press Enter key.4-You should now have a Rollback BIOS option.Use arrow key again to highlight and press Enter key.

Last night i updated my bios (ASUS M2N4-SLI), unfortunately during the update the power went off in the house when i boot now nothing happens, the keyboard and mouse are not even booting. There is power to the motherboard but i can?t get a boot screen or anything, is there any way that i can sort this out?

many thanks

A:BIOS update went wrong, need help please

Unfortunately there is little you can do if the flashing has failed. If the motherboard does not POST, you are most-likely looking at a paperweight. There may be a bit of hope if your mainboard has a chip socket (meaning you can physically pull the BIOS chip) but most are soldered right to the PCB. If you can remove the BIOS chip, you can send it to BIOSMAN where they will replace it and reflash the corrupt chip. I've used them before, it's a very good service.

As far as soldered goes, I'm afraid that's tough luck. Replace the motherboard.

I hope this is posted in the right place.

I think I have messed up my computer big time and need some advice.

I was trying to update the BIOS on my Medion 8838 because I wanted to use more than 4GB of ram.

I downloaded the BIOS update from the Medion website booted the computer into DOS and applied the update.

Everything seemed to run smoothly with the update and when it finished my computer rebooted but just kept on turning on for about 2 seconds and then turning off again like it is stuck in a loop.

Now whenever I plug in the computer this loop of turning on and off starts again.

I have tried resetting the CMOS but to no avail.

I am seeking advice on what I can do.

Is this fixable?
Do I need a new motherboard?
Is my computer dead?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

My notebook is around a year old and in good condition - a few days ago the keyboard completely stopped working. I went through a lot of fixes and troubleshooting, and some of the symptoms really don't match what i am seeing online. For starters, the majority of the time it will not accept an external (USB) keyboard. Also, in order to be able to enter my password with a USB keyboard i have to boot the computer whilst holding Shift and Enter. Now the keyboard is being extremely temperemental, it isn't useable. Certain keys will occasionally work but not correctly, for example the 'T' key will operate TAB. So far i have done a full system restore, i have removed the battery and held the power button for around a minute, i have updated the keyboard driver and reinstalled it. I've been trying these things in different orders for the past 2 days and i'm not making any progress. The computer hasn't been in contact with any moisture, it hasn't been dropped.  The next step i am considering is updating the BIOS - i have no knowledge of this and wondered if this was an appropriate thing to do? Thanks for reading!

A:Notebook Keyboard not working - Bios Update?

Rturner9314 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! You don't say what Model laptop you have, but my guess is that it did NOT come with Win10 preinstalled.  Is that right? And if so, did it come with Win7 preinstalled or Win8x? Asking because MS recently pushed out their Anniversary Update and, as evidenced by LOTS of postings on the Win10 community forum, and here, that has been causing serious problems with folks whose Upgraded PCs worked fine with the older versions of Win10 (i.e., 10240, 10587) but not with this new version (14393).We can proceed once you provide the answers. And NO, a BIOS update is NOT going to address this problem; plus, unless you have a very new PC, there is no BIOS update available for it.Thanks

After update and restart (update wich I presume included BIOS update), my notebook booted the windows for 5 minutes, then turned off in an instant. After that, when i pluged the power adapter the power led started to blink continuously (white light), and the notebook reused to start (no power, no other led', no nothig, just the blinking of the power light). I've tried to reset It (battery off, 15 seconds power button and all, I even removed the Bios battery). It's not the first time. The last time when It happened, the problem resolved itself after several days. The blink stoped and the window was booted n safe mode.If you have a technical solution please help me, because I can't wait for several days.Thank You!

Kept freezing and dropping WI-FI connection shortly after logging on. I found there were 6 updates needing running that wern't automatically showing until i scanned for them in HPSA. Its taken me 4 days to get most of the updates to actually complete and it seems to be working much better now however, I have one update for HP Notebook System NIOS Update (AND Processors) that keeps failing... Any ideas? Please keep it simple i'm not very good with technical info. :-) Greg

A:HP Notebook System BIOS Update (And Processors)

Hi Greg, Try the following. If the bios update is still running in HPSA, click the Stop button. Close HPSA, restart the notebook, then download the Bios Update from the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. When the download has completed, close any other open windows and programs, then open your Downloads folder and double-tap the installer to start the process.  The actual flash will occur when the machine restarts - do not interrupt this in any way, even if nothing appears to be happening for a while - when it has completed, the machine will load into Windows as usual. Note:  If the option to Update shows as being 'blocked on this device', you will need to Contact HP regarding this. Regards, DP-K

hi --

i'm trying to fix my parents' pc (a gateway 507gr) which has been really unstable & unreliable for a few months. windows wouldn't boot properly, windows reinstalls wouldn't work. it'd boot into the bios ok, but that was about it.

in desperation yesterday, i decided to upgrade the bios, hoping to have a good foundation for reinstalling other stuff. i downloaded the files from intel's site (the board's a d915gag, with a p4 processor with hyperthreading), and did exactly what it said. now things are far worse than before.

intel gave several sets of directions for flashing the bios. the least invasive was to make a cd with this bootable .iso file, put it in the cd drive of the target pc, and boot it up. it did boot under that scenario, but instead of anything resembling the screenshots they showed in the instructions, it said something about the old bios id number, the new bios having a different number, and trying to install it, and then it went immediately to a c: prompt. for a few moments, the pc made these really quiet noises -- not hd sounds, but something somewhat similar (almost like sci-fi "electronic" sounds), but nothing ever happened. it wouldn't even boot into the bios after that.

another method intel gave for flashing was to download & copy this .bio file to a cd, put in into the drive of the target machine, and boot it up with the bios configuration jumper off, to force it into recov... Read more

I updated my BIOS version before (around a month ago) but I just discovered that the HP Notebook System Bios Update (Intel Processor) was skipped. I actually cancelled this update and when I tried to do it again it didn't allow me anymore. I contacted the HP Chat Support at that time and they said my laptop was fine. I got a blue screen of death once and that was it. That was the only issue I had with my laptop. After that I updated to the latest version of the w10 Anniversary Update a week ago. I do not have any problems with it, my laptop is running smoothly. I haven't encountered any problems. I just reccently purchased this 2 months ago.  Well recently, I got an update in the HP Support Assistant regarding an update for the Intel Serial 10 Driver. I contacted the HP Chat Support and they said my laptop didn't need the driver. That it was a general update and not targeted to any specific PC. Long story short he said I didn't need it, I don't need to update and that my laptop was fine. The Windows 10 Anniversary update... Well updates everything the tech said. I was just wondering:1. Product Name: HP ENVY m7 j020dx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
I attempted a BIOS update earlier today. After it finished, it said that the screen may be black and LED's may blink for a while after (I don't remember the exact wording). Well, the screen was still black after about 4 hours, so I turned it off, and now it refuses to boot. There are no beeps, no error codes, no POST, nothing, so I figure the BIOS must be corrupted or something. I've tried resets and the windows key+b trick with no luck. I've spent a few hours trying to figure out how to run a the BIOS from a USB, but info is a bit scarce, so I couldn't figure it out. So, what else can I try? I don't really have the time nor the money to send it in for repairs, but I need this computer for school by next week.

Edit: A while ago, I had to restore my laptop which erased my HP_TOOLS partition. So, if anyone has the same or a similar laptop and still has their HP_TOOLS partition, a DL link would probably make this a lot easier to fix.

So after getting a notification that I needed to install the HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)I checked the box and clicked install. I waited and waited for it to install but it would never complete. I then attempted it a second time and it dI'd the same thing. After that I left it alone and all of a sudden the screen went blank and told me I needed to install an operating system on my computer. I didn't know what else to do, so I turned it off and then back on again to see if it would start up. It did start up and I tried one last time to install the uplate but it still says installing and has been for a very long time. I just barely bought this computer and school starts back up soon so any help is grearly appreciated!

The software to flash the bios is not compatiable with windows 10.  Will it be safe to run anyways? (yes, i installed free upgrade to windows 10)  2.  sp71055.exe  f42.ap1 (is the file it is recomended to run for my intel i7, the patch notes (always never enough information) state that it restores or provides original bios.  my instaled bios version is bios verson / date f/34. 12 19 2014 On a previous occasion i believed i did flash the bios already, and was wondering if I needed to restore to the original version, or is that languague used a little 'off'

SupportAssist selects the E5530 version of bios update, which fails to install.
Workaround is to to manually select and install.
Also does not seem to be able to actually install the chipset update it claims to have, as the option will re-appear the next time SupportAssist is started.
Might explain the missing webcam.

Hi guys,

My motherboard is Asus P4S333/133 series.. I have updated wrongly my BIOS and the system doesn't boot anymore.

The previous BIOS version is Asus P4S333-VF/WOL ACPI BIOS..

Any advice from you guys to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

A:Wrong BIOS update and now the system doesn't boot! Plz help..

A great big OUCH!

You could try reflashing it with the correct one if it will get that far. But it probably wont even boot to floppy now... The only way I can think of is to remove the BIOS chip and reflaash it in a programmer

Thats exactly why I never flash a BIOS unless its absolutly needed.

hi, i have been hitting my head for long to get the answer of this question... and got no sophisticated answer in my google search, hopefully u guys could help me out..

well, they ask for BIOS UPDATE, gather your bios version n brand name, go for appropriate site nd have update..?
but the question that arise in my mind..(being tech student and encounter this bootstrap loader numerous times) is
BIOS IS A "ROM" CHIP, and so we must only be able to read from it..
then how is it possible to write on it and update the BIOS and more over, in my college books i find.. if u want to update your bios then u have to change your entire chip or sometime even motherboard

hopefully i will find sufficient answer.. thanx for anyhelp

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

I have a Windows Vista Home Premium. It's about a year and half old.
I've been having problems that past few days with going to print a saved PDF. I hear the printer start to do its' thing; then it stops, takes an extra bit of time, then prints.
Not today. ugh! There have been a couple of new downloads since Sunday. I think that they have caused the problem.
Today, I did a system restore to earlier this morning. (didnt help.)
I did another system restore(thought I'd be smart and restore to the first of Feb.) not smart after all.
I don't know what else to do. I'm desperate for the use of the printer.
The printer is an HP Ofiicejet7310xi All-in-One ( no longer supported and about 4 or so years old. was running like a champ til this morning.)
Any help would be soooo much appreciate.

A:Solved: New update from HP is causing printer to not function. help?

I finally figured this out. HP did a couple of updates. of which it made my cd for the installation of this printer to work only with Windows XP.
It no longer will work to reinstall the cd with Vista. They want me to buy a new printer.

I can still install and run the printer from an XP machine I also can still network the computers; just not print from the Vista. LOL! I can go to the XP machine and open the network and print anything off of the Vista from the XP. sigh......
at least it works. I cant afford a new printer.

I am having a bit of a problem with my update query. i have a field that shows a forename. i am importing data from an excel file. The forename populates with forename and middle names and they are seperated by spaces as opposed to commas. I have used the following InStr function in my update query however it works fine when the records forename field has a middle name but it deletes all data in the records forename field if it contains only one name which many do. How can I adjust the function to ignore those records that do not hold more than one name in the forename field. As you can imagine some forename and middle name combinations hold many names.
For instance the filad may have Ivor as a name which I would want to keep But if the Field showed Ivor Bigun then Bigun needs deleting.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.

Gentlemen,I recently bought, from a thrift store, an HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC (Limited Edition), model dv6500. The bottom of the service tag has it identified as dv6648se -- nothing like introducing a bit of confusion to the mix!It has a 1.5GHz Centrino duo, 2 gigs of RAM and a 60GB HDD with some form of Linux on it. Originally it shipped with Windows Vista Premium. My questions for you revolve around various options for getting it back with some form of Windows OS. I've come up with some options but I don't know which -- if any -- of them are realistic.Option 1: This is my preferred option since it's free and I'm a cheapskate. Since the computer has a legible product key sticker on the bottom, could I install a downloaded copy of Vista that came from Microsoft and use the product key to get it to install and activate properly? If the product key is only valid for the HP OEM version of Vista, then I guess this option is out and I would need to find an HP OEM disk (see option 2).Option 2: Getting a "recovery disk" that is supposed to be all the original files from HP that were installed on the machine at shipping.HP doesn't offer these anymore for this computer, but there are sites like Restore Disks, which purport to have copies for $27.00 -- nearly three times the price of what HP would have charged. Is this a legit' product? Would the OS activate with the product key on the computer like it would with the rescue kits directly from HP?Option 3: Buy an OEM copy of ... Read more

A:Advice Installing OS On dv6500 Notebook

You need to have a Vista OEM disk of the same version as the license. If it is Vista Home Premium, that is what you need to have. It will work and we can find you the drivers as they are still posted here. It does not need to be an "HP" version of Vista but it does need to be an OEM copy of Vista. I am not aware of any place right now that you can download an OEM copy of Vista from Microsoft. They used to host such .iso downloads but stopped that maybe 18 months ago.   Windows 7 will work well on it and is a much better option than Vista although there are some publicized tweaks to Vista that can actually make it run almost as well as Windows 7. Vista just had terrible memory management so Windows 7 will run better on Vista-era hardware than 7.  Windows 7 and Windows Vista have a lot in common and generally can use the same drivers.

So I checked and my settings were already the way they were supposed to be. So I changed them and then changed them back just to try. No luck. The other more obvious thing is that IE is crashing/needs to be shut down for no apparent reason. What the heck do I do to figure out the source of the problem?

Hi Guys,

I have a REAL newbie question. I?ve tried reading a bunch of tutorials, but they?re a little over my head. I think my question is pretty basic, but after a couple hours research, hopefully someone here would be kind enough to help.

I have an M2A-VM motherboard and my system keeps freezing up, no input from keyboard or mouse, no ctl-alt-del, nothing. It freezes intermittently, but never goes more than 3 hours without freezing, sometimes freezes in a few seconds, with 5 ? 10 minutes being the average time it works before freezing. Seems to freeze more (often immediately) when I?m using the mouse than any other time, but it will freeze on it?s own, just idling, if you give it enough time.

I?ve read a few things including updating bios and downloading the latest motherboard drivers. My problem starts when I go to download the mobo drivers from this page:

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

It lists 41 driver updates there for my motherboard:

41 files found

Qualified Vendor List (1)

BIOS (20) [BIOS History]

BIOS-Utilities (1)

Chipset (1)

LAN (1)

Utilities (2)

Manual (14)

And apparently I?m ?missing? these Windows Updates:

Q934062 - Important
Q936960 - Important
Q950130 - Critical
Q951550 - Important
Q951944 - Important
Q973923 - Moderate

Question #1: Do I download all 41?? Surely my machine can?t need 41 updates? How do I know which ones to download and install?

Question #2: ... Read more

A:Windows Update INCLUDES Motherboard Drivers and BIOS Update on M2A-VM?

I have the same board on another pc.

You only need to download and install only that which would make your setup current.

You really only need to update the bios if you will be moving up to a newer processor that is not currently supported by the current bios or if the newer bios fixes a known problem.

You need the latest motherboard chipset driver. (I would install this first if you haven't already)

You need the latest LAN driver.

The audio driver you can either download from Asus or from RealTek.

I have, or had a laptop purchased 9 months ago, therefore under warranty. Yesterday the ThinkVantage System Update recommended a BIOS update. After the traditional recommendations about what should not shut down the computer, the laptop is reset and started with the update.

During execution, displayed on a screen command, a message "ERROR XXXX. Press any key to continue." After press the key the laptop was freezedy was completely blocked. After an hour without seeing response and no sign of life, I decided to turn it off to confirm the disaster. The laptop was dead.

The laptop began to beep and would not start. Before the panic generated by the situation, I searched the forums where I found several cases that refer to the same problem and the insinuation that makes LENOVO about the customer's responsibility to avoid recognizing the warranty.

I was not looking for a BIOS update, it was recommended by ThinkVantage System Update, the software executed it and damage the equipment.

Besides being a damage caused by the ThinkVantage System Update, the situation gets worse when the answer given by support insinuates that the customer turn off the computer, so it is a CID (Customer Induced Damage) and therefore the guarantee does not cover it. I do not understand how LENOVO may imply that the responsibility of the customer. Really disastrous.

In conclusion, if you are not needing to make a BIOS update, it is preferable to omit the BIOS update messages given to ThinkVantage System... Read more

I bought this HP Probook 455 G3 and it has just run out of warranty which I intend to renew very soon. I don't like 8.1 or 10 so I spent more than I wanted to and I bought a new Windows 7 lappy that is a business laptop. I always do the recommended updates that I receive by E mail but one I never do which is the Bios update. The last time I did a Bios update on this lappy it wouldn't fire up afterwards. Rang tech help and after going through some troubleshooting it went back for repair. It came back working and luckliy i didn't have many pictures on it.Started from scratch and haven't had a problem since. I am now scared to do the Bios update. And.... Beofre I bought this laptop I bought a Windows 8.1 from HP direct . Hardly use it but update virus protection as necassary and last week there was a Bios update to perform. I also took out another 2 years warranty on it. Same think happened. Last week in fact. Wouldn't fire up afterwards. Again Tech help tried to help but in the end after frequent crashes it went in for repair on Friday. Good job I took out the extra warranty... I am now down to 1 laptop which I do not want to fail on me. I don't seem to have much luck with the Bios updates... Advice please? every thing works fine until i restart and then the system hangs. If i restart a second time it enters the bios and i have to set the stuff again this is very annoying, i think the problem is that the processor should be running at a cpu core voltage of 1.5 but its running at 1.67 i cant go any lower because thats the lowest voltage i can choose, can a bios update fix this problem and with a bios update can i choose the right voltage?

A:Solved: Would a bios update fix this

Maybe. You need to check with the mfg of your mb to see if they have any updates that address that issue. Bios updates are not done for fun or to have the latest bios. They are only done when you need a feature the update has.
The reason is a failed update can leave your system unbootable.

Hi guy... I'd like to ask you for Asus M51Vr BIOS updating. I was downloaded AFUDOS manual, but I'm not sure for using AFUDOS for Asus M51Vr. Though it seems to me it's better update BIOS in DOS mode. And one more thing: BIOS's file extension is not .rom, it's M51VaAs.211. It would be nice you explain me about this and maybe show me where I'd can take utility for my laptop BIOS update. Thanks!

I have an Hp ZD8000 desktop replacement with bios version f.32. I want to update to version f.34 (latest) because I heard it fixes some problem with the fan not spinning, thus lowering temps. Do I have to update to version f.33 first then f.34, or can I just update strait to f.34? Also is there a risk of the update failing, rendering my pc completely useless?

Here's my configuration:

Platform : Intel Averill Fundamental

Mainboard : Intel D946GZIS

Chipset : Intel i946GZ

Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2666 MHz

Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )

Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Hard Disk : WDC (500 GB)

Operating System : Windows 7 Professional Professional 6.01.7600 (x64)

DirectX : Version 11.00

Mainboard : Intel D946GZIS

I bought some more RAM (2 x 2GB) so my machine would run smoother with the Windows Upgrade to 7 and a friend of mine told me to update my BIOS to prevent the machine from crashing with more that 2 GB of RAM.

I downloaded the BIOS update, BIOS Update [TS94610J.86A]. When I run it, however, it says it cannot proceed due to a programming or internal error.

Any suggestions?

Should I try to install the RAM and see if it works? I don't want to open it in case I can't get my mobo to run the extra RAM and I have to return it.

I set up a new HP Pavilion laptop a few weeks ago and it is working perfectly with no problems. I noticed when browsing on the HP support site that a more recent BIOS update was available. My question is is it advisable to flash the BIOS with the new update as it is available or to leave well alone?

I might add I have never flashed a BIOS before and have read the procedure very carefully and realise that a mistake could wreck the MOBO.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Generally speaking, it's best to not update your BIOS unless it's to address a specific problem or to allow a desired hardware (e.g., CPU) upgrade. Read the description of the new BIOS version to see if it would benefit you in any significant way.

Please help.
I recently put in an Athlon 2100+ processor in my HP Pavillion 8776C System # P2978AR which should run at 1776 MHz. However, it is running at 1300 MHz and I am told it is because my FSB is set at 200MHz and not 133MHz. My bios will not allow me to change this setting and I was told that I need to update my bios so I can make the fix. I can't find the right bios upgrade. Here are the results from running a bios checker from the phoenix/award site.

Program: Unicore BIOS Wizard Version 1.9
Program: Unicore Chip Detect v0.72 2000.03.10
BIOS Date: 01/19/01
BIOS Type: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0.I
BIOS ID: unknown
Chipset: VIA 82C305 rev 3
Superio: VIA 686 rev 34 found at port 7h

Please let me know which bios update I should install and where to look for instructions on how to do it. The tool I used said it would sell me a new BIOS, but from what I've read, these should be free and I don't want to have to pay for something just because I'm naive about it. I would appreciate any help I can get. If this is not a bios problem, I'd be glad to hear about it because this is driving me crazy!

First of all why do you want to update the bios?

If you are not having any problems, leave it alone. If you do a search on this forum for failed bios updates, you will find a number of people who have rendered their systems unbootable.

Hello All:

I am using a Dell GX260 bios version a02 and I am trying to flash it to A09 which would allow me to boot from USB FLASH...

I downloaded the bios update, and according to the directions:

Double-click the down loaded file GX260A09.EXE on your Desktop.
If the Security Warning window appears, click Yes.
Click the Setup button.
A black MS-DOS window appears.
Press the <Enter> key.
Insert a formatted floppy disk in the floppy disk drive and press the <Enter> key.
Press the <Y> key to begin copying files.
The message End of the disk set appears.
Press the <Enter> key.
Click the Start button,
Click the Run button.
Type a: in
the Open box and click OK.
A list of files on the floppy disk appears.
Close all open windows and leave the disk in the floppy drive.
I am not getting the option to hit "Y" and begin copying the files to the "A" drive...the CMD window closes quickly and nothing happens after...

Any ideas why this is happening? I am using WinXP

I currently have an ATI Radeon X1550 512MB PCI-I x16 GPU on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev 3.3 mobo with latest F14 (not Beta) BIOS.

When trying to play a snooker game (I know - lol) - I have to run it in 800*600 and turn settings such as anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering etc to either minimum or off.

My PC is fully optimised, defragged, I have tried disabling all AV etc but cannot seem to make any improvements.

I have the correct drivers for the Card (which took some doing as on Windows 7 RC x64 Ultimate).

The only thing I can think of is updating the X1550 BIOS.

1. How do I do this
2. Where do I get the proper BIOS
3. Is it safe to up the PCI-E clock up from 100Mhz

I enclose a screenshot of the GPU details.

Thanks for any help.

I'm adding a wireless pci adapter to my IBM R40 Thinkpad and need to upgrade the Bios for the system to recognize the new card.

I see that the current bios version is many generations older than the version that I need to install. Each newer version has specific fixes and enhancements. Do I need to install the all versions between the current and new or will the newest version contain all the previous fixes as well?

I am hoping to get some help from you guys when it comes to updating my BIOS as I have never done this before. I used CPUID to check my current version of 2/8/06. When I go to my mobo's web site, it says I am behind by 20 updates. When I looked at the most current one, it says I need to download the one b4 the current one. I tried to do this but when I downloaded it, and tried to run it, I get the following msg "the BIOS version you are installing is older than your system's current BIOS. Do you want to continue".
Now I am confused by this and am hoping to get some help. Here is the link to my mobo:

I have been having an overheating issue with my computer recently. I put in a new heatsink/fan and nothing happened. My computer was running in the 60's at a good moment, up to 75 degrees when just browsing the internet. I Went to the HP support page and it said there was a BIOS update. Dummy me figures yea ok. I downloaded it, ran it, all seemed fine. Computer restarted and then told me windows could not load. Ran the repair tool, and after 45 minutes, it could not find/fix any issues. Restored the computer to a week ago and same thing. This has been going on all night. I found a way to flash and update the BIOS from a flash drive but it does not seem to be working since my bios update is in an exe file not bin. What can I do? Please help.

Hi, Because of many crashes and a Windows messages telling me my BIOS was probably out of date I updated it through the Micro Star International
MSI Live Update Online. During the download process it gives you the option to backup your existing BIOS settings to a floppy. I don't have one so had to bypass. It seemed to worked but when the operation restarted I didn't know what I was supposed to do. In any case it rebooted but on that startup screen it said 'Checksum bad'. When XP loaded I got the 'the system has recovered from a serious error' message again. I thought that I must have done something wrong. I went throught the whole process again to update the BIOS process. XP loaded OK and everything seeme to work. Becasue of the previous problems I thought I had better check and restarted. I tried Pause/Break to freeze the startup screen bit by bit. But I couldn't grab the last line even with multiple attempts. No matter howm many times I tried I just couldn't read the last line, which I think said something about the Checksum' . But couldn't make out whether it was bad or good. In previous viewings when it was 'bad' it was slower. Can anyone explain what is happening or how to capture the last line of text.
Sorry to be so longwinded but I hope someone can illuminate what is going on.Thanks.

Well guys im new to the forum but i have read alot on here and im positive some of you can help me out... well here is my problem:

I decided to update my bios on my mother board (Intel D865PERL) so i went to the Intel Site and got the bios update for my motherboard. After this i double clicked the .exe and it ran as it should, when it restarted it gave me a series of beeps (normal) then it went to a screen that read "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" so i tried restarting and going into the bios and i went to boot priority, all it showed was my floppy drive and my CD-RW drive, no Hard drive detected. so I decided to try reinstalling windows and the windows setup detected my Hard drive and i went to install and it went to the screen that read press enter to install windows, press F8 to agree, etc, etc, the setup continued and it formated the drive, then it went to "setup is loading files" after that finished it said "setup will now reboot and then continue installation" it would reboot and then go back to the screen that read "press enter to install windows", ive even reset my CMOS and it didnt help at all... now im at a point where i have no idea what to do so.... if any of you have any suggestions it would be greatly aprecciated.

Thanks for reading,
