Q: Solved: DELL Computer problems

Dell Optiplex GX620 computer, about 2 1/2 years old, has suddenly started running really slowly. I couldn't even open two web browser windows at the same time. I ran Malwarebytes' Antimalware, and it was running so slowly, I rebooted ran it in safe mode, no problems found, also no problems found by AVG 8.5 pro version.

I decided to do a chkdsk on it, and it found some bad sectors, after fixing that, a week later, I'm having to go through this all over again, more bad sectors.

I called Dell, (computer is still under warranty) they had me run diagnostics and I get a message "FAIL - Dell Hard Drive Diagnostic Return Code: 7"

They are telling me to reinstall the OS, but I'm not happy, that's a ton of work, considering all the software I'd have to reinstall on a failing drive???

Hello all, at my place of work, we have Dells and have had many problems. OS is XP. Have further complications in that these are for the public's use and are connected to a reserve system and it must communicate with the PC's before they are able to load. We contracted a virus and have been having problems ever since. Problems such as Spyware being loaded on some PC's although they all are on the same the program-they are all on a server and should not be individual enough to even allow Spyware download.

Plus, the reservation software has not been printing people's reserves for their PC. They have to come to the staff members so we can look up where their reserve is wheras before, a little slip would print off telling them where it was.
Anyone else have same problems or have ideas on what is going on?

Thanks

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

I have a Dell XPS 410 that is 2 years old. I started getting blue screen errors and called Dell they said it was the hard drive. I replaced it and still kept getting the errors. When I called Dell again they said it was the mother board so I took it to Best Buy and they said it was the mother board. I had them replace it and have had it home for just a little over a week and today I got the blue screen again. It did a couple of restarts on its own and then today just the blue screen. Does anyone have any ideas on what else might be causing them?
Thanks

hi,

a friend of mine has dell inspiron 6000 notebook and everything has been working fine until recently it somehow got thrown on the floor.

it worked normally for a bit after that, but then after shutting down and doing a cold boot, the laptop turns on (the lights in front blink and are green) but the screen remains black (like a monitor switched on but not plugged).

ive tried reseating the hard disk but still to no avail. no driver updates or new hardware/software were installed.

after several hundred tries of switching on the notebook, it works, but sometimes it just switches off again.

i called mister dell and he said that it probably is a motherboard issue, and it would cost approx. a bomb to fix and take a look at it.

any help would be awesome!

I have a Dell 962 all in one with two major problems, both very recent in its 2 year history of acceptable performance:

1. Copies are not readable due to black lines and gray areas
2. When used as a stand alone fax it transmits pages of solid black.

The printer and scanner functions work fine.

I have recently changed the printer cartridges, cleaned the large scanner glass and the thin glass lens below the automatic document feeder. I am sure that the original is oriented with the correct side up when sending the faxes.

I have been unable to find any references to this combination of problems.

I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron computer with Windows XP Pro, and am subscribed to Bell South fast access (now AT&T)

Any suggestions or references toward a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi all.

Well my problem is the following. I reinstalled my OS, Windows XP, and now I can't connect to the internet. Obviously, I am on another computer at the moment. Specs are as follows:

Dell Optiplex 330
Windows XP
On-board MagJack Ethernet connection

I guess I am in need of some drivers. Before you ask, I have checked the drivers CD that came with the computer and found nothing for the on-board MagJack Ethernet. I also checked Dell's website for the appropriate drivers and found nothing. Please advise if you need any further information. Thank you so much!

I have been given an old Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop for my young son to use.
The specification is Intel Celeron CPU 2.60 GHz with 512 MB of RAM

It is running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
However, Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not listed in Add or Remove Programs - is this a problem?

The main problem is that it will not connect to the internet wirelessly although it will wired.

Hello and first of all thank you for taking time to read my post and consider my problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m and a few nights ago I dropped it. Now when I boot it up I get the Dell bios screen and the Windows XP load screen, when the screen changes to login the screen goes black as if it is turned off. I can start the computer in safe mode without any display problems and I can start it in VGA mode without any problems. I can also plug an external monitor into it without any problems, but I cannot get anything on the laptops display as if it isn't even attatched. I have tried replacing the ATI drivers and even resetting the system back to factory by hitting CTRL-F11 at the bios screen, non of which has been successful.

I feel that either A. a chip on the video card is damaged or B. something has come unplugged from it due to the drop. However I think that should it be either one of these the video card would not work at all. At this point is seems the video card cannot detect the laptop screen when using the ATI drivers but can detect it if using the generic Windows XP drivers.

I'm wondering if I should open it up and search for any unplugged wires, cables, or ribbons but since I am unfamiliar with the laptops hardware I am afraid of doing more harm than good. Thanks for any insight you can grant me.

My grandsons mistakenly downloaded a program called personal antivirus. It hijacked the Dell Dimension 3000 they were using. I tried everything to stop its perfomance but it took control! The system runs an older version of xp home /sp2. I used the original install disc to reinstall the OS, then installed wireless software(belkin) to access home network router and downloaded McCafee virus scan. Turned on auto updates and let it update. Then shut it down, it seemed to be working fine, in fact it was much quicker than normal. When I tried to boot it up, up came the dell flash screen(2-3 secs)gray- blue screen 4-5 secs and Windows xp screen then gray-blue screen and hangs. Tried to enter thru F8 and tried booting in all modes. Safe mode returned blue screen of death with the following error message:STOP:c00021a {fatal system error}
The session manager initiation system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x000000000). The system has shut down. I would like to reformat this entire OS and reinstall it completely clean if possible, could you give me a way? Thanks for any suggestions in advance, PTC

System is a dell dimension 4600. Came to me dead. User said it'd been making some funny noises for the last week or so.

I tested p/s & sure enough it was dead. I ordered another & put in machine. Booted up once. RPC errors & the like shut it back down very quickly. I knew it had viruses so I left it shut down over the weekend to deal w/ on Mon.

This morning plugged back in and it started to boot & shut right back down. Started defined as I heard the p/s come on. I took out RAM & reseated one by one. I do get Dell lights on the back of computer indicated memory not installed etc...so am I to assume that the ram might have been taken out with the p/s? The ram is PC2700 and I have ordered some. I don't have another pc that will take this ram to test.

Any suggestions on how I can further test machiné? I already tested out processor. heatsync. I test p/s again and that is still good.

I just inherited a nearly-new laptop that seems to have always had connectivity issues. We thought that the previous owner just had bad wireless, but our current router is brand new and works smoothly with all other computers in the household. It's a Dell Studio 1745 installed with a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. For wireless connection, there's both an Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN and an external Belkin Basic Wireless USB Adapter. I've been having connectivity issues. Both devices are able to see networks, and you can select to connect to them. But half the time the two of them stay in a cycle of "Identifying" and then disconnecting, or simply won't connect at all when enabled. The other half of the time, one device or another connects to the internet and functions slowly for a minute or two before becoming despondent again, even though the Belkin adapter worked fine on a previous Dell computer we had.

At one point the connecting devices would work for several hours at a time without a problem and reconnect easily when they became faulty (I just switched between one or the other) but now neither one is working for more than a minute or two at a time, and I'm posting this with an Ethernet cable plugged into the side of the laptop.

It's been suggested to me that the wifi card or some of the other internal hardware is "overheating," since earlier it seemed that if I disabled wireless for periods of time, the wifi connection would then ... Read more

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. Whenever I start it up, the BIOS screen goes fine, but then it gets to a screen like in this picture: https://forum.acronis.com/de/system/...ack_screen.jpg . I have a Vostro 1500. When you turn the power button on, you see the Dell logo and then the screen goes black. You can tell the lcd is on, just nothing on it.

I hit F12 and tried to boot to a windows cd, and it recognizes the windows cd and hit and key to boot to cd. When I do it goes starts to load , and about 15 seconds later, everything goes black, cd stop spinning , but power stays on. No fan etc.

Same results when hooked to external monitor.

I also can boot to the Dell diagnostics and ran everything and everything passed except the battery health. It will run the diagnostics fine, for hours, everything passes. But when you try to load windows or boot to cd, no go.

I can get in the bios fine.

I have tried this with the battery in and battery out. Same results both ways. The diagnostics did say the battery was bad, but it is the same reults even when the battery is not installed and I am running on adapter.

Motherboard maybe ? Motherboard diagnostics passed also . I just don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

So glad I found this forum! I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop with Windows 7. I've never had a problem connecting with wireless network before now and I've owned this laptop since 2009.

I can see wireless network but it won't let me connect. Another laptop in our home can connect wirelessly so it's not the router.

The switch on the side of the computer is enabled.
The Device Manager says that Ethernet and Dell WLAN wireless card are all working properly and up to date.

I have no idea what to do now. Everything else on the computer is working fine except that when I tried System Restore, it failed for the last 2 restoration points and that has never happened before.

Please help!

Thanks,

I got a new laptop(Windows 7) a couple of months ago. Everything's been running smoothly. I use the XPS for everything. School, gaming(which is a major portion of the harddrive).

A couple of days before Christmas my webcam started messing up. My webcam went black on the MSN screen, but the light was still on.

I've tried common solutions, disabling the webcam, uninstalling and installing the driver and nothing works!

Any help would be so appreciated! Thank you!

Following a terminal BSOD on a Dell Dimension 2400, I have replaced the HDD and re-installed XP SP2 Home Edition using an OEM CD image supplied by Forum Member.

Installation seemed to go okay and I visited the Dell UK website to download the Driver software for the network card so I could get Online and complete the Updates.

Upon trying to install the driver software this is where my problems started.

At first I get the following error code:

"1607: Unable to install InstallSheild Scripting Runtime"

To resolve I first tried to install "isscript.msi" (which I downloaded off the internet) but I get an error stating that "Windows Installer could not be accessed".

Taking advice, I then I went to services.msc and Started "Windows Installer" (which is set to Automatic but Stopped).

I then tried to install "isscript.msi" and it installs sucessfully.

I now go back to attempting to install my network card driver and I get the following error code:

"1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance, Return code -2147221021"

It was then suggested that I ensure the DCOM is running. Again I went to "services.msc" and Started this service.

I now had another go at installing the Driver and it is successful!

Now here's the thing... If I goto Device Manager the Network Card does not have a Question Mark against it and appears to be installed and working correctly, however,

I have this old Dell Dimension L700cx that I am using. It currently runs as I am using it to type this. What I'm trying to do is restore it to make it look like it did when it was brand new. Anyway, I am trying to find the original wallpapers for it and the original manufacturer logo to go into system properties. *its a Gateway laptop to clear things up lol*

Hello and thank you for viewing my problem . Anyway let me just start off by saying that I have little or no knowledge in fixing computers. And Ive bascially screwed my computer over twice i imagine lol

A week ago my computer started having problems. I installed a antivirus called avast to try and fix it. So anyway i let avast scan and just do its thing, it restarted and it showed me files that have been infected. It Gave me a bunch of options (i.e. delete, repair, move to chest) and i just unknowlingy screwed my computer up by just clicking delete all corrupted files.

Problems got worse everytime I tried launching my Google chrome and it suddenley blue screen.....But wait theres more....

I tried to fix it again by using a old program my grandfather had left on this old laptop I got from him. I used Norton Goback to see if it could restore the files I deleted. My plan was to restore the files from GoBack 2 days earlier (in theory), and use avast to rescan the infected files again and instead of deleting them, quaritine all of them. Hopefully I would think this would work.

Eventually I got sidetrack and would think that just wiping my laptop clean would just of been easier. I used instructions here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Reinstall-Windows-XP-Without-the-CD

Thinking everything would run smoothly I followed what it said, it restarted, ( I undoubtly cancelled it the first time because I wasnt sure) and gave me 2 options to load... Read more

Hi, I am having a problem booting to Window XP Home Edition sp1. I have a Dell 4600 Computer. It scenario went like this. My husband would sometimes get on the puter and it would hang after he logged on. The only way I could get out of it was to reset my APC UPS. Then it would reboot and I would get a blue screen. I would reboot again and It would be fine. Now this never happened when I logged on so I don't know what was up with that. I never upgraded to sp2 or 3. Maybe dumb but I make stationery for Outlook and Outlook express and build a few little web pages with applets and vbs scripts, so did not want the settings to mess with my applets on the upgrades. Now last night I stupidly decided to download a program called Driver Max. I figured maybe I should update any drivers that may be causing the freeze and blue screen. I ran it and it said there were about 8 drivers that it had new versions of so I started downloading. First was a hard disk controller driver. I made a system restore checkpoint. Then installed the driver and rebooted...or tried too. Of course, and went to hades in a handbasket real quick. It boots up to the black screen that gives me options how to start it.....safe mode, last know good config. etc. so I tried all to no avail. When I tried the safe mode it did the multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (0) and the different boot ini files all the way down the page. So can anyone help? The back of the computer does not have the usual screws holding the case to the inside compartment. Instead it has many small round metal objects each with a hole in the middle. How do I open this thing?!!! Maggie

A:Solved: How to Open an Old Dell Dimension computer

There's likely buttons on the top and bottom that you press and it opens like it's hinged on the front.

Other models just have a latch that releases the side like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsgynopUEiw

However that's just a guess as there are thousands of Dell Dimension models and you haven't mentioned which one you have.

Hi All,
Hoping someone can help. I have two Dell Pc's one upstairs one downstairs. A few months ago one of my computers just stopped booting. It would freeze about 10 seconds after you turn it on but I didn't use it very much so didn't bother trying to fix it. Now recently my hard drive as gone on one of my other Dells with a clicking hard drive sound which i know is fatal.

I have replaced it with the other drive from the other dell the one that froze and it seems to do the exact same as the other, just freezing with a black screen before it can show the XP splash screen. So I know this has got to be a hard drive problem as the same symptoms, however I have checked to see if the the computer can see the drive in the Bios and it can plus I have done some Maxtor hard drive diagnostics and has come up as Passed so i am at a loss to what it could be. The answer may be in Recovery Console, I have tried Fixboot and FixMBR but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas to what I could try.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys. I was wondering whether to buy a macbook or get a new video card for my Dell XPS 410. I am having such a hard time deciding because if I was to upgrade my Dell desktop I would have to upgrade both the PSU and GPU. I want to buy a 8800 GT. In total I would pay around 250-300 bucks for the PSU and Video card. On the other hand I want a macbook. I know that the new GPU and PSU would obviously be cheaper than the macbook. Do you guys think that I should wait before I buy either of these products, since new models may be coming out. I would really like to play games like Call of Duty 4, MOH Airborne and Gears of War. But I would like to also sit in bed any talk to friends and watch movies right on a macbook as well.

P.S. I currently have a 7900 GS.

Hi,

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 1564 - Windows 7 Home Premium) slowed down a few days ago and I decided to restore the system to Dell Factory Image. The process started but stopped more than halfway and gave the following message, "Failed to apply Image". I restarted the system but it would now not boot up, not even in safe mode! Perhaps, during the restore process few essential Windows files have been erased.

I want to restore the Dell Factory Image and cannot re-install Windows since I have lost the product key of my original Windows 7 installation DVD provided by Dell at the time of laptop purchase. Your help / advice is solicited and would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

P.S. System's Recovery Partition is intact and has factory.wim and other related directories / files intact.

A:Problems with Dell Factory Image Restore - Dell Inspiron 1564

The product key sticker on a Dell laptop is usually in the battery compartment.

Have you tried to run the Dell restore again? It won't boot because the restore started but failed so the "C" drive is corrupted.

If that does not work, suggest posting on the Dell forum where you can get help from those more familiar with Dell's.

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

hi, after you hit F12 did you see the diagnostics program at all? Ordinarily I would say It may be worthwhile running a scan on the hard drive if you can. But, I see you removed a virus, can you tell me if it was with the help of the antimalware section on this forum? or did you just remove it yourself? I need to know if you are absolutely sure you removed all traces of the virus - if you had the help of a forum they would have given you the "all clear". Have you tried starting in safe mode at all?

I have a Dell inspiron 530 that will not boot. Its running xp professional with a core 2 quad. When I turn it on i hear one beep and it sticks at the boot splash screen. F2 and F12 do nothing. So far I have tried the following:

1)Swapped hard drive out with a known working one.
2)Removed both sticks of 1gig ram and placed them in different slots.
3)Swapped out one stick of ram at a time to determine if one is defective.
4)Swapped out all ram with known working ram.
5)Removed radeon graphics card.
6)Tried to do a repair on windows from a disk but I cannot get into the boot settings.
7)Tried unplugging everything except the monitor and power cord.

After attempting these steps I still receive the same results everytime. I was thinking about removing and re-seating the processor, but I figure someone with more knowledge than me would have another suggestion for me to try. I fear the worst for this PC assuming it is the motherboard or processor. No new hardware or software was added to this system when the issue started. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

Press F8 during bootup and see if you can get to the XP boot menu. If you can't get to the boot menu, it could be a hardware issue or corrupt files on the HDD. With a boot CD or XP CD you can verify the system will boot, that will help verify the hardware is mostly functional.

A few months ago, my dad's computer started acting a little strange. It started out just requiring him to hit the shutdown button twice before it would actually shut down, but then, a few weeks ago, it started disconnecting him from the internet and the network after a few minutes of activity online.

As the family computer guy, I was the one he came to for help, but I didn't know what to do other than run a virus scan (he had Avast! on his computer with the Windows firewall). After the virus scan came out clean, I really didn't know what to do, so, with all his files backed up to an external hard drive, I completely wiped the hard drive (dban ftw) and reinstalled Windows (and added Avira Antivir and Comodo Firewall for defense) and everything was working fine until I tried to restore all his files.

The restore itself went fine other than the fact that it put everything into a file for his old username rather than the current one. After messing around trying to get everything where it was supposed to be, the computer cut off the network connection and wouldn't let me connect no matter what I tried, so I did a system restore to before I started messing around with the user accounts and just cut and pasted his files over to the new username's folders.

Things seemed to be working fine after that and I set up the backup program (Memeo Autobackup) again and it was working fine when I finished, but now it's started the shutdown thing again and I'm beginning to think there w... Read more

Hello everyone. I just bought a computer for cheap, and I'm having a bit of a problem. I was told that the hard drive was bad, but I don't think that is the issue. It's an emachines T2825, with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+. What it does, when I plug it in, the power supply and fans automatically come on. The hard drive light stays lit constantly, but I dont hear it. The CD burner light stays on constantly, but the drives wont open at all. It seems that the computer isn't on, just the power supply and fan. I try to use the power switch to turn it off, but nothing happens. It just stays on. I was told that the mobo could be bad, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what it could possibly be. Also, when the monitor is plugged it, there is no signal. Nothing on the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, we have an XP computer with intel core duo e7500 2.93 ghz processor, 2 gig ram, 500 watt power supply, and ati Radeon HD 5500 video card and lately it's been having issues with some games. we have tried getting a new video card and that didn't fix anything and we also traded out the ram with a different working computer and traded the power supply with a different computer and put new heat sink on the processor and none of these things fixed the problem. Here are the errors we get:

When we try to run the game called Vindictus,
it gives us this error:
failed to create vertex buffer. The program has encountered an unrecoverable error. Press ok. Exception code: Exception _access_violation, Excepetion address 0xb0e9802 Exception module material system.

And when it has this error - parts o the character and parts of the ground of the game dissapear. And sometimes it just crashes with no error.

And when we try to run the game called Star Trek online, we get this error:

Technical details: E_out of memory while creating 2D texture size 64x64 (7 mips, Rtex_dxt1). And it also gets glitches where parts of the character and parts of the world disappear. We tried lowering the resolution and it does not help.

hey my tech savvy peps. It has been awhile since I have posted on here. I am back with a new problem that is throwing me for a loop.

My wife's computer keeps restarting whenever she is doing anything related to viewing videos. IE: if she goes to MSNBC, tries to use here photoshop program. If it has video on the website it will restart her computer. If she watches DVD'S.......no problem.

She has a MSI motherboard model MS-6378, she has intergrated video but I have upgraded that to a ATI Radeon 9250 PCI version. I have gone into the bios and disabled the onboard video thinking that there was some sort of conflict. I have update the drivers for the ATI card and still no change. I am thinking that she just needs a new computer, it is pretty old but works great except for the damn restarting.

Any help would be great!

I am building my new computer for college, and I got everything assembled, and I turned on the power, everything came on, but no change with the screen.
So I unhooked everything except the Ram, the processor, the Vid card, the extra USB ports, and my keyboard.

even with that though nothing happens....once the speaker on the case was making a fast click (but not even loud enough that you could hear it without getting right up to it with your ear), but that happened once, and like the 3rd time I tried it.
other than that, nothing happens.
the power and the 4X AGP light are on on my vid card.
and two lights are on on my motherboard (one yellow one green)
so, I don't know what to do....everything is in tight....
any suggestions?

It was time for my quarter year inside cleaning of my system, i shut it down and pulled the addon cards, fans and memory for alcohol cleanup. I replaced all of them and got to bios splash page and the system rebooted and would not show anything on screen.
I thought something may have happened to the bios or one of the cards, so i cleared the CMOS and took out everything except one stick of memory, the main vid card and repowered up to nothing. I cleared the CMOS again and it would boot up thru the splash screen to the point it would notice there was not a drive and ask for one.
I would reboot it and it would get to the splash screen to the point of checking the memory and sorta hang like it was looking for the hard drive or DVD rom drives and reboot to nothing. I have no clue as to what is going on and the system is 1 1/2 years old.

I seem to have fixed it by going into the bios when it booted up after clearing and telling to to go to default and saving it as default. So far so good, i hope there isn't really anything wrong with my system.

Computer has a 500mhz celeron cpu.... and pc100 sdram (64 mb i believe)
This all started when i turned the machine on, it tries to load to windows........ and i get a black screen saying file could not be loaded or is missing...

there's a bunch of them. Heres the list.

vnetbios.vxd
vsdata95.vxd
msmouse.vxd
ndis.vxd
ndis2sup.vxd
javasup.vxd
ifsmgr.vxd
ios.vxd
vrtwd.386
vfixd.vxd

After it goes through these it says

"Not enough memory to load windows. Check configuration files and try again. Press any key to continue"

on keypress it shuts down
After 2 more tries of doing this in safe mode and in normal, the computer wouldnt post.

it turns on, gives one long beep, stops, another long beep, stops, etc, etc

hmm.... Bad memory? Just in case, i swapped it out with a 128 mb stick of pc100. Computer came back on. I left the case off and noticed the cpu fan was not spinning!

Just out of curiousity i let the boot continue. did the same as before. Tried again. this time i tried to boot to command prompt.

There, I did a directory listing of files on c:\ (which took a long time) and there was one file in particualar that was a bunch of ascii characters.... i tried editing this, with no luck cause i couldnt find the special characters. I then tried reinstalling windows from the cabs on the drive. It got about 1/3 of the way through scandisk and halted. In the upper left hand corner i could see "runtime error."

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

I am using IE (the latest version) and I am unable to access certain websites that I have easily been able to. I try to go to GMail to check my mail and it clicks and reloads itself over and over. And will not work. I tried to go to several sites that I used to be able and it clicks and resets itself... I got on my brother's computer and got onto the sites with ease, as if there was no problem. So obivously it is MY computer or internet. Me and my brother are on a router connected, so its probally my computer, or something I have installed. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to resolve it, please let me know!

Regards,

HI..
I have this issue. My client has in his office 8 computers.. 7 computers access his Hard Drive (500 gig 6 months old WD) for save work that eveybody is doing with a program they use (this company does Appraisal using software for that)
Later this week 1 computer starting getting problems and was change for new computer (well I build it with new parts, motherboard, HD 500gig, ddr3 memory 2gig, so on) all other computers using windows XP Pro. I check other computers and everybody access thoses files quick in seconds. Everyone has map drive to access this file in the main computer.
Well I install everything and windows XP Pro, surprise for me I went to map the drive to access and it took 3 minutes to open thoses files. What happen I don't know. My client complaint about this situation and I went back change cables change different port in the switch box and same thing I even plug cable to another socket where other computer access this files fast and no change at all. At this point I reinstall Windows XP and load drivers and everything same situation.
I back to the store where I purchase this motherboard and get me a new one.. so I want to ask If anybody has this problem before o Knows a solution please help is grateful appreciated. Sorry if I got wrong forum...

well just now my computer just shut off, all i had running was google earth, aol instant messanger, and winamp. i play games like battlefield, half life 2 for more than 3 hours and it doesnt shut off, so im thinking its not a heat issue. my cpu stays around 37 C normally and around 46ish when im playing games. thats not the only problem. whenever i try to watch a video thats on the internet like from ebaumsworld. i watch the video using wmedia player and my screen all of a sudden zooms in like by 60x and all i see is a little part of the top left of my screen but really zoomed in looking, so i have to press the sleep on my keyboard and when its on again it turns normal. and i have the most recent driver for my vid card. and now i cant even watch things i was able to watch a day ago on wmedia player, videos that i already had on my computer. btw my computer is the one in green below. i have done the whole adware spybot thing with updates.

My computer has recently been very slow. Alot of my programs are taking a long time to come up & my system restore isn't even working properly! No matter which restore point I pick, when it restarts my computer, a disk check pops up & afterwards, it says that the point I picked cannot be restored & that it has failed. I am having so much problems with it lately . Can somebody please help, to figure out what the problem may be? I am also thinking that it may be a trojan or something, does anyone know how to boost my system up or help in fixing my system restore? Thank you.

Ok, first off I tried to use the SysInfo to get info on my computer through this site and this is what I got:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version:
Processor:
Processor Count:
RAM:
Graphics Card:
Hard Drives:
Motherboard:
Antivirus: None
I went to my system for info and am being shown that the info for my RAM and Processor is not available. I believe that I have 2gig RAM and the Processor is AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-72 which I found under Device Manager.
Now that that is settled, let me get to my problem(s). Computer starts slow, but with no problem. Once it loads and tries to start programs, I get a message that says: "This application has failed to start because wbemcomn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". I have re-installed the numerous programs that I get this message with and still nothing. Even when I open up my device manager, I get the same message. Next problem, while streaming movies (NetFlix) or clips say from youtube or the such, the vidoe will start to stutter, but the sound continues on and that may continue for a minute up to two or three. Those two are my main concerns right now. If I can get those fixed I would be happy. I am running Avira Anti-virus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and SuperAntiSpyware. I have done complete scans on my hard drive and on my externals to ensure that I do not have any viruses. As far as the programs say, my computer is clean. Please help me if ... Read more
