I was trying something with my monitor that I used to but for some reason it made all my text everywhere sharp and not as focusable as it was by default.

Even as I see this pic before then I see crap text. You guys won't. Here's comparison..
Default.
^ Sharp.
:[

A:Text is small and grainy now..

It's not really clear what is going on - "sharp and not as focusable" seems a contradiction in terms.

For text readability, check your resolution and dpi, and then go to Control Panel > Display > Adjust ClearType text and set it up as you like.

Also there is: Control Panel > System > Advanced System Properties > Performance Settings > Visual Effects tab: make sure "Smooth edges of screen fonts" is ticked.

Well, I just came in to the possession of a new computer that I'm quite fond of, however, there is a problem. All of the graphic images I see and text appears to be very grainy. I'm not sure why this is, I am running a very nice system with, what I beieve to be, the proper settings. I'm not sure what option it is, driver I'm lacking, or any of that business that is causing the problem. I'm really at a loss for what may be the issue and tech support via phone has been of no help. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. I'll be watching over the thread to answer any questions that may help people solve the dilemma .

Hey guys,
I brought my desktop back from school, but I didn't want to worry about transporting the monitor, so I'm borrowing my dad's Viewsonic VX2433wm. At school, I use a Samsung 2343BWX along with a Dell 20" 1680x1050 monitor (unfortunately, I don't know the model). However, my computer seems to act up with it connected.

The most obvious thing is that the text is kind of blurry. I tried adjusting ClearType, but that didn't seem to help. Pictures/color seem to look okay though, and most games look/perform the way they should. I made sure the video card is outputting 1080p, and I also switched to my integrated graphics chipset (Intel HD 3000), but it looks the same. I tried opening AMD Catalyst Control Center, but it tells me that the "Host application has stopped working". Doom 3 BFG edition also crashes once I get in-game.

Here's the weird part: When I connect via HDMI my AOC L32W761, all of these problems go away. AMD CCC works fine, the text looks okay, and everything seems as it should. When I connect only my TV, everything is okay too. Why would this happen? I've switched cables, switched ports, uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers with driver cleaners, and I can sometimes sort these issues out, but I'm pretty stumped right now. I don't think the monitor had issues before.

My setup is this custom build I put together last year:

Intel Core i7 2600k
ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3
AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB
8GB DDR3-1... Read more

I have it hooked up with HDMI (brand new gold plated cable). The text especially is blurry/fuzzy and the screen doesn't take up all the space it should - about 1/2" at the top and sides, bottom is ok. The guy at View Sonic support said it was a video card issue and I would have to figure it out with HP or Intel. Can anyone help me? I have Intel HD graphics. The monitor is Viewsonic VX2270-Smh-LED. It's 21.5" 1080p frameless IPS display.

I have Windows 2000, and it's pretty new. I have multiple accounts, and on my Guest account I accidentaly hit "Paste Shortcut" on the right-click menu. It asked me if I wanted to paste an Active Shortcut or something, and I hit yes because I thought it would help me make a shortcut to something I couldn't find, but it started loading something, so I quit out of it.

Now my desktop (only on the Guest account) is really grainy. The background picture from the Internet is now really low-quality, and the icons all have messy pixels around it. The Log Off and Turn Off buttons under the start menu have also gone grainy, and changed to darker colors. However, none of the other options under the start menu are affected.

Please help! I already checked my resolution and replacing the picture - it's not helping. I tried to paste another shortcut, but it's faded the option. Augh...

I just bought my new computer with Vista sp1. The videos I transferred from my old xp computer all look grainy and blocky. On my old xp machine it all looked great. I went to the Nvidia website to do the online driver check and my graphics card (geforce 6150 se) drivers are al upto date. I am using VLC media player, and have installed the K-lite codec pack just like on my old computer. What am i missing.

Do the files look grainy and blocky in both VLC, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic? There could be a codec issue involved.

I recently bought a new computer that has a Gigabyte NVIDIA GetForce FX5200 video card. I have windows XP, Internet Explorer. When I use the Internet, I see grainy looking images for logos that display on websites, such as the book images you see next to titles on Amazon. I recently downloaded the recent drivers for this card and the system says it is working properly. The color quality setting is set at 32 bit Highest Quality. The effect I'm getting is probably what you see if the color quality setting was set at 16 or 8 bit. I ruled out my monitor because my old computer using the same monitor does not display these grainy looking website images. Screen images outside of the Internet on the new computer look just fine, so it seems to be just isolated to when I'm looking at internet web sites. Any help or clues to resolve this issue is appreciated. Thanks.

I've googled this issue and looked through photoshop help menu, but can't find any information on how to correct this photo. I'm using Photoshop 5.5 on a Windows 7 computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions, insights??

Hi there, Ejaz -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Does the noise or distortion move or is does it stay in place? Also, you may want to recalibrate your ClearType.

Go to the control panel, under "Appearance and Personalization" and under Display, click "Make text and other items larger or smaller", then on the left, "Adjust ClearType text".

Update us how it goes.

Hi yr3750,

that's kind of hard to answer if you don't know what you uninstalled.

If, in your display settings, you can't increase the screen resolution or the colour quality, then yes, you probably need to reinstall the graphics driver.

My problem is that if i look closely at the screen or with glasses i can see the dots clearly. In certain frameworks which are gray with black letters the gray is a kind of gray to pink and the letters are vague. After about 10 minures behind the screen my eyes feel tired. I hope that i cab ge help resolving this problem, don't think it is common for this type of all in one

Greetings! I've searched everywhere for the answer to this issue. It must be common, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm using MS Word 2007, but the problem was the same in 2003. I sometimes get a text box that is behind regular text. I need to move it. One normally just selects a text box and drags, or cut and paste, it where one wants. However, when it is behind text, it can't be selected. I have found no way to select normal text and "send it behind."

How do I get to this text box that is behind my regular text? I've been told to "move the regular text out of the way, then you will be able to get to your text box." But the text box moves with text!

Thanks,

7nyerik

I started to have a problem today, my screen suddenly starts to get grainy and i get an BSOD.

After alot of rebooting, system restore and repairs i was able to start in safe mode (Yea, not even safe mode was starting up).

In safe mode i removed all nvidia drivers and was finally able to start up in normal mode, without problems. As i did that, vista automatically started to look and install a video driver for my Geforce 8800gtx and asked for reboot. I rebooted and the same problem happened again.
Note that i used an fresh account without additional programs on start up for the test and it still gave that problem so long as the drivers were installed.

Could this be a hardware problem? How can i gather more information to help solving it?

This is very important and rather urgent as that computer is my main workstation and i use 3d programs which need those drivers.

Thanks in advance.

The laptop was working as normal. Suddenly it started to appear very pixelated. It is not limited to one area of the screen, but covers the entire screen. The colors are not distorted for the most part, but I can almost see the pixel grid running up and down the computer. It basically highlights every small square. I have tried updating Bios and graphics card and doing a system refresh. None of it has helped. Any ideas about what the problem can be? This is not the first time it has done this. One time the screen had to be replaced. The second time the issue was resolved perhaps by restarting the computer but I can't remember because it was about a year ago.

Does not matter what video or in what format I watch the picture quality is far from perfect, looks very grainy and black is not black.
Also sometimes the movie freezes for a few seconds and then continues.
But my main issue is with the grainy part.

Hmmm, just got a new NEC LCD1760V 17'' LCD screen, but the screen is horribly grainy. It looks like the pixels are 'buzzing'. I've tested it on my other two computers and the screen still is very grainy. I be thinking the monitor is defective and I should get a replacement, but I'm slightly worried that the entire series of these things are like this.

And most importantly, anybody else who has this monitor and has a nice clean screen or this exact problem, I wanna hear about it.

Just recently i've noticed that my default windows folder icons are very grainy. More specifically, the issue is with the folders in "My pictures", which have sample pictures of the pictures contained, on them.

I've only noticed this problem in the past week, so it must have been something that i clicked or changed, but i can't remember what it would have been.

Have any of you had this problem, or do you have any suggestions how to make the icons and picture samples go back to being as clear as they were?

The picture shows what i'm talking about. not only are the pictures not clear, but the folder icon quality sucks too.

I have a customer who brought in his system to have win2k installed. Everything seemed ok and he took it home. when he got home and hooked it up the image on the monitor was very grainy. it was a different type of monitor but thats never been a problem for me before. any ideas?

A:Grainy image in win2k

Got a couple of suggestions, I know you have already tried but if not.

If you used the Win2K drivers for his video card, there shouldn't be any problem. If it is a new monitor, you could try loading the drivers from the accompanying disk.

If this still doesn't work, try a different video card.

The last thing I can think of is if the monitor is a couple of years old, it might be the frequency or resolution settings on the video card might not be right. This can happen when the drivers are changed from one O/S to another. Sometimes the results can be different even though the hardware hasn't changed.

Other than that "good luck"

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I booted it up yesterday afternoon and discovered the sound was gone. but after a restart the sound came right back. I loaded World of Warcraft and noticed the sound was VERY grainy and occasionally skipped like I had too many programs running and it was trying to keep up.. this has never happened before. I restarted again and the audio was still grainy. I was hoping it was just the game, so I turned on iTunes to check.. the music on iTunes wasn't grainy, but skipped for a moment every other second or so. I've tried updated drivers, chipsets, etc. but nothing seems to work. The computer has been out of warranty for two months, so shipping it probably isn't an option for me right now. I have a Fuji S602, (3-Megapixel) camera that I like pretty well, except for the fact that it isn't and eighteen-megapixel camera.

I just got an Epson Stylus Photo 960 printer. The 4 by 5" pictures I print look good; but, when I take them up to 8 by 10", they look a little grainy. I have PhotoShop Elements 2.0, NeoPaint 5, and ThumbsPlus 5 to work with.

Does anyone have any tips on how I might smooth up these 8 by 10 prints a little? I have tried the blurring tool in Elements; but, that doesn't seem to help. I have also tried increasing the size of the image up from its 17-Meg native TIF to a 74-Meg file; but, that doesn't help either.

Working with a photograph in an artwork program is totally new to me. Any suggestions?

Hi!

This is my first post in these forums.

I am using Win XP, SP3 with IE 8 and everything has been quite stable up to now. When I visit a web page and create a default HTML IE 8 shortcut to place on my desktop, or look at others that are already on my system, there is a "grainy" look to many of them. It would seem that some are in low resolution, while the others are in high.

Reinstalled the Nvidia Video Drivers and reinstalled IE 8 without success, in that the icons remain the same. However, if I login to another user on the same system, the icons in that user account render just fine - in a high-resolution format. The icon I speak of is white with the blue "E" inside it.

Any ideas?

TIA :0)

My dell inspiron n5010 running on Windows 8, today all of a sudden started showing some grains on the display.Soon after it happened, it showed me a message which says
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restarts. were just collecting some error info, and then well restart for you (100% complete)".
The system restarted by itself and it started running system repair. The system repair screen is also grainy. After the repairing is done, it restarted showing Windows 8 logo(that too with grainy display). But nothing really happens after that and it its stuck. So I decided to switch it off and turn it back ON after sometimes. I did that and the PC booted with no issues with the display perfectly fine. But the same issue is repeating again and again and I will have to shut down the system for some time and then again turn it back ON to make it run normal.
I am attaching a screen shot.

I thought I would install it and see if it would automatically upgrade to the current protection level of 2015/2016 for possibly a year and then I would have to pay to continue getting upgrades. Once I installed it, it seemed to slow my laptop down quite a bit. It seemed like every web page I visited, I'd have to manually add it to the firewall to allow access to the site. I started to search for another product and saw that Vipre Internet Security Suite 2016 got good reviews and had a 30 day trial period. I uninstalled the CA product and installed Vipre. This didn't seem to help speed anything up (not that I really thought it would). The most annoying problem I have, and it seemed to start when I installed the CA suite, is that web page images seem to load OK for the first few pages I visit. Then after a few pages, images load half way and the bottom half of the image loads grainy and/or distorted ("piecemeal"). I'm using Chrome version 48.0.2564.103. It happens in FireFox (43.0.1) as well, but doesn't seem to happen as often. I frequently clear the cache and history in both browsers and this doesn?t help. Since the browsers are up-to-date, I'm assuming the problem is with XP. I suppose it could be the graphics card, but I thought I would see dead pixels on the screen, whi... Read more

Hi,

Yesterday my webcam (built into the laptop) worked perfectly, today it doesn't....

Whenever I use it now, the image is very grainy, almost like a tartan pattern of criss-crossing lines, but I can still just about make out myself in the background. Movement and sound are still being recorded, just the image is strange.

Please help! Has anyone else had this happen? Is this something I can fix myself, or is it a hardware problem? I have had this laptop about 3months, from brand new, and this is the first problem I've had...

Many thanks,
Dom

A:Tecra M11-17V with Windows 7 - Web Cam image is very grainy

Hi

Usually the webcam lens is covered by a thin foil which needs to be removed for the first time. But I think you did it in the past because webcam worked properly in the past. Right?

Well, I think you could try to reinstall the webcam software.
Not sure if this helps but it worth a try? so try it.

Hi, I've been searching around for a few hours now with no luck and was hoping you guys might have a solution. This afternoon, my display suddenly became very grainy and the color shading seemed off. The below screenshot of my desktop is the best i could do to capture it.

This is not the first time it has happened. Both times previously i had given up and it went away in a few days to a few weeks. I' have already tried adjusting my resolution and color settings as well as making sure my video drivers are up to date with no luck. Could it be the monitor's driver's? Might be important to note that between these "events" i have replaced my motherboard, so i'm fairly certain it's a graphics card issue. Also, while it's extremely annoying, it doesn't seem to interefere with the comp's operation much, i was able to run battlefield 3 without issue, other than the aforementioned grainy-ness.

Here's a brief hardware list (custom build)

AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.00 GHz
Windows 7 64-bit, Service Pack 1
ATI Radeon HD 5570
8gb ram (not sure of the variety)

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A:Grainy/color display issue

Welcome gabeja15.

Personally I cannot see much wrong with that photo, but then again, any 'grainy' parts I would just assume is the compression of the image/.jpg and the colour due to the background image.

Have you tried an alternative monitor? It could be the monitor or graphics card (in theory other things as well, but most likely these I would think).

Also, try using a different vga/dvi cable (Monitor-to-PC cable), it could be the cable/it's connectors.

I had to have a system restore done on my laptop, win xp. Office 2003 was re-installed but the font in Outlook is very grainy and looks cheap. I have spent about two hours looking on the computer for how to fix the resolution better but can't find anything. This is only in Outlook. The labels "Drafts, Outbox, Sent Items" etc. look like pixels are missing in every word. What can be re-set to make the appearance smooth again?

Hi All,

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-LT18E all-in-one desktop. I just received my computer from Sony (1 month later) for a free repair because of a bad Nvidia graphics card 8400M. When I got it back (2 days ago) I noticed that the screen was fuzzy, its as if your looking at it through a screen door. Pictures are kind of blurred and the color (saturation?) is off. I've downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and installed them.

The graphics card (integrated graphics) is a Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT.

Does anyone know why the monitor or image(s) being displayed are not "crisp" anymore?

Been having a problem ever since I started using my Radeon HD 5870 again; the graphics, especially with light, on fallout:new vegas seem to be grainy and pixellated, and I didn't have the problem when using my Radeon HD 4550, making me assume it's a hardware fault.

I am running Windows XP and using Photosuite 4.

I am scanning artwork for upload to a print on demand site.
I have scanned at 300 and 400 dpi, but it seems that the result is not big enough for prints as large as the original, which is about 8.5x11.5 the size of the glass on the scanner.
So, I thought if I scanned 600 dpi it would be the right size.

Well----I did and the result was horrid. It was very grainy. I tried adjusting the size, and I experimented with adjusting way down past what I wanted and it made no difference!
It still works well at 400 dpi.

What is happening here and what can I do about it?
Why isn't it coming out finer, as it seems like it should?

Thanks for any help you may have to offer.

A:Solved: Grainy scans Canon 8400F

What kind of "artwork" are trying to scan?

If these are printed copies, remember that most of them are nothing but a bunch of dots, and if you scan at a very high dot rate you will see the orginal dots of the printed copy.

Screenshots tiny, but have you tried updating your video card drivers?

Or you could have a corrupt codec, if so, try installing the k-lite codec pack, it will remove any damaged codecs on installation and has all the codecs you will probably ever need.

Hello guys, I recently installed Windows 8 from Windows 7 and immediately noticed something that continues to bother me. I may be splitting hairs by some people's definition, but I noticed that any image I set as my desktop background, whether higher resolution or matching the resolution of my display, I get a whole lot of little compression artifacts where there previously were none. I can take a pristine quality image, observe it in any viewing application as being pristine, and the instant I set it as the background, I get compression artifacts galore. Well, perhaps not "galore"... It's not quite like looking at a mosaic or anything, but detail all over are muddied and dulled. Colors don't pop and fine lines are all but entirely lost.

In some cases it is more noticeable than others, but when it's there, it's extremely noticeable and not so easy on the eyes. I have no idea why this would be. I have not yet been able to troubleshoot other windows 8 machines to identify if the problem is isolated to my PC or not, but I will asap and let you all know what I find. For now I am assuming this is a problem that perhaps other people are coming across, as I have no idea what could have changed since I upgraded to 8.

My computer had no such problems with 7, and I am a digital painter who unfortunately picks up on this stuff extremely easily. Ultimately, it looks in a lot of areas like somebody sporadically sharpened parts of the image, giving a slightly grainy effect, w... Read more

I have a Minolta 7hi camera using the largest image size and stored as a jpeg (lowest compression) and saved in the sRGB color space.
They look fine on the LCD display, BUT look very grainy as a 8bit bitmap does (similar to the 2k splashscreen).
I have tried 2 different programs to print the photo and the same thing.
The printer is a HP 932 and I'm running 2k.

Now, all other photos and images are and have been fine. Same program(s) same paper and settings with the same printer.

Any ideas??

A:Digital photos print as grainy 8bit images

There is an advanced setting in the printer properties (I'm not at home so my memory is a bit fuzzy) that allows the printer to print in photo mode. I've got the same printer and the same happened to me initially. I found this setting and use it whenever printing photos.

Hope this helps.

Hi everybody. I recently finished my first build, and am currently trying to work though some problems that I hope someone can help me with.

So as soon as I got it working I decided to test out my games. Hitman Blood Money, and Left4Dead worked perfectly fine. I decided next logical test would be Team Fortress 2. When that started up it worked initially. After a few minutes and graphical tweaks it started trying to redisplay the game. It flipped out, stopped displaying text and buttons, and then only displayed 4 slightly different colored giant squares on the screen. I hit alt+F4, and ctrl+alt+delete to try and get out, which didnt work. The computer just restarted on its own.

Luckily it started back up without a hitch, so I tried Garry's Mod. Same thing happened. At this point i decided to reinstall the graphics drivers. After that finished I tried again, same thing happened. This time i was fortunate enough to alt+F4 out in time, so it didnt restart. After this I decided to look towards my Nvidia options for the answer.

I changed the refresh rate to 75 hertz (Highest Option), and changed the performance settings from "Quality" to "Performance".

After this, again, I tried TF2 and it finally worked! ... temporarily. I got into a game and it seemed to work great, until I exited out and a new problem arrose. The previous problem only happened in games, but this one was both in and out of them. This one was leaving stray pixels on the screen whenev... Read more

For a couple of days now, some of my icons have started rendering in this really funky, 16-color sort of way - as if a few of my programs decided they wanted to relive the days of Windows 3.1. (For reference - I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 on a Dell Latitude X200 and using the onboard video card.) The icons for the programs are all grainy, with the colors washed out. It started with Mozilla Firefox, then was followed by Trillian, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Skype... that I've noticed so far.
The Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird icons are all jacked up, as you can see from my Quick Launch bar.
When Trillian flashes a message indicator to me in the systray, the icon looks like its 1996 equivalent.

I installed a new wav editing program a couple of days ago, and also installed a new Firefox extention - I uninstalled both and rebooted, but doing so didn't change anything.

So then I:

1) Checked my display settings. Nothing was changed from how I have it set (1024x768, 16-bit color), but I experimented with a few different resolutions and color settings... didn't help.

2) Checked the Device Manager to make sure nothing display related was malfunctioning. Windows thought everything was fine.

3) Updated my display drivers. No change.

4) Uninstalled and reinstalled one of the offending programs (Mozilla Firefox). No change.

5) Tried following the suggestion of http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/121271-lower-icon-quality-after-using.html?highlight=gra... Read more

P95F+B
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-116-232&depa=1

The only real difference between the 2 is the fact the Professional one (P95F+B) has an aperture grille while the Gaming (G90FB) has a shadow mask

I know the shadow mask uses dots (dot pitch) while the aperture grille uses lines instead of dots...

Which monitor will give me the best picture for gaming and crisp clear text.

If you can afford it I'd get the Professional version. I had Philips 107P (Professional) monitor with a .25 Aperture grille and it was the best monitor as far as picture quality/clairity I've ever seen (I'm sure there are better, but not without paying major money).

I've downloaded and gone through the Device Manager install of the Vista signed and unsigned drivers from Viewsonic. Choose the vx2835wm as the monitor and... "file not found". Viewsonic support sends me to a link that says "no drivers available" and then says to download their Vista 64 package I've been doing since day 1. (been doing this and all suggestions since Nov 2007)

Vista Ult. 64 uses its default non-pnp drivers where I have my 1920x1200 native res. with everything but gaming (the reason for purchasing this monitor). I can't get anything higher than 1600x1200 (in gaming) and well, its fuzzy. Can't use windowed mode, OS drivers stop functioning and reload frequently. I've set the res. in the nVidia panel to 1920x1200, set the game ini file to 1900x1200 but it still will only work at 1600x1200 although the games support the higher resolutions.

Is there anyone here that uses this monitor that has found Vista 64 drivers that work? If not, is there a 28", or even 30, that has Vista 64 drivers that will work at native resolution with any program or game?

I am ready to sail this monitor out the third floor window and buy another if I can't get a solution for fixing this one so need recommendations on other monitors as well.

Dwarf I don't see your reply here although I did get an email that you posted.

The following link is to the signed standard Viewsonic monitor driver for Vista 64-bit. This driver should be installed with administrative privileges. For games, you might need to adjust your settings such as anti-aliasing in order to be able to use this resolution. The higher certain settings are, the lower the maximum resolution that is available. This is just a matter of trial and error, bearing in mind that higher resolutions require more working RAM on the graphics card and also a card of sufficient power to yield a decent frame rate at these settings.
Dwarf

I did download those many times each time it was updated by Viewsonic. It goes through the device manager wizard fine and then 'file not found'. However, someone did message and email me their driver folder from the monitor cd and it worked. Apparently my cd was a bad one. So all is well and working. Games are working great with the right resolution now.

My daughter's AOC monitor died, boo hoo, it was 6 years old so it was bound to happen. O.K., I buy a spanking new Optiquest Q75 plug it in, load the drivers and voila, it totally screws up her pc, I mean the screen was distorted like i never seen before in my life. It was like 2 giant magnets were going up and down the sides of the monitor. I brought the monitor up to my pc, it worked fine...those dam drivers screwed up her entire operating system, I could no get them off her pc so I reformatted her HD, 4 hours and many grey hairs later, (I mean if I still had hair that is), she has a new monitor. I was looking to go from my 22 inch NEC FE2111(too big) to an LCD monitor; However, I can't seem to make up my mind. I've narrowed it down to the Viewsonic VP191B ($449.00 at newegg) or the BenQ FP91G+ ($329.00 at newegg). I've heard nothing but good things about BenQ, and I already know the excellent reputation of Viewsonic. I do alot of gaming so that's an important factor. I know CRT has better visual quality than LCD, but I need to conserve space, so any input on these 2 monitors would be appreciated.

We use Viewsonic 17'' at my work & they r ok. Although I have a BENQ at home & I find it way better than the others. I run XP on a new box and a fairly new 19" (year old) View Sonic LCD monitor. The monitor worked as advertised on my old PC but when attached to my new one I frequently get a flashing green power indicator light and will get no picture.

This happens 100% of the time if I cold start the PC and I have to screw around with the restart button and on/off power button to get it to come back to life and in truth I do not know which combination of button pushing gets it to come back. I now use the power saver mode because that seems to be the most consistent way of bringing the monitor back to life but even that didn't work this am.

Just purchased a new Viewsonic VA720 17" flat screen & had problems installing same. Took it to technician, paid $60, got it home and plugged it in. Nothing - no screen image and a complete lockup; had to unplug unit from wall to shut down.

Started it with WIN98 emergency disc and it went directly to the BIOS setup with following statement (in red). During the last boot up your system hung up for an improper CPU external speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. (Bus: 100MHz, DAM: 100 , PCI: 33 MHz). To optimize the system performance & reliability make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specification of your CPU.

Had previously copied all BIOS data (thank g-d) so went over it & found the tech had turned off the Plug & Play O/S. I turned it back on and the screen showed up immediately with no further problems to date. Called the tech and he claims they always turn off the plug & play as they found it interferes with system operation. Is this true?

Also I still wonder how to optimize the system by making sure the CPU conforms to the specification of the CPU. Any help and/or information on this matter would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like the vertical deflection is gone. Try the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on yours to see where the problem is. If the monitor is bad its better to bury a new one than to pay to have it repaired. New monitors are pretty cheap now.

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here so I hope someone here can help me. I'll lay down my situation, and then I pray someone has an answer for me. Ok, here goes:

I have a ViewSonic 32" LCD T.V./Monitor ((Link: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/lcdtv/n3250w/ )) Just in case you want to see it.

But anyway, the problem with this monitor is this. Over the past month or two, my monitor began flickering. Over time its gotten worse and worse, and now the screen becomes garbled on the right half of the screen and sometimes it completely blanks out...almost as if the screen is melting. I've tried everything...the first of which was buying new cables. I bought a new monitor cable from my work...but yet the problem persisted. I bought a new graphics card ((ATI Radeon x1650 Pro 512MB card)), installed it...but it was still garbled. Recently I tried hooking a new desktop up to it...and still the monitor was garbled. So I narrowed it down... it has to be something with the monitor. But before any other conclusions are thought up, I also have a Xbox 360 plugged into the monitor that runs fine...no screen flickering or garbling present at all. So, the problem must be in the monitor cable adapter/hook-up thing located on the back of the T.V. Before I fight over the manufacturers about fixing my monitor...does anyone know anything else I can attempt to try and fix this thing?

Thanks for any reply....this thing has been a pain....

Check the refresh rate of your monitor and be sure you are not driving it faster than it was designed to be driven. Also, be sure you are not attempting to use resolutions higher than the monitor was designed for.

hi

I have a 15" Viewsonic VA520 LCD monitor that is having some problems.

The monitor has a a built in "auto adjust" and at the moment all of a sudden it keep auto adjusting over and over again. I cant shut my monitor off unless i turn the power cord off and when i do the same problem occurs over again.

Ive unplugged the monitor, then plugged it back in, unplugged all the computer wires and then replugged, done a virus check but it is still like this.

There are 4 buttons on the bottom of the monitor

if i click the 3rd button (the up selection button) and hold it the "adjusting" goes away but the minute i let go it reappears. I hold that button and then hit power the monitor shuts off but not normally.

So i guess my question is how to i make this auto adjust go away other than to take it to a dealer and get it fixed. Im wondering if there are other options.

thanks.

I am running Vista Home Prem.I use an 8800 GTS EVGA.I have the latest drivers for my 8800. I run 2 Viewsonic monitors. One is a VG900b and is fine. I also run a VX2235 digital monitor. Both monitors are listed in device manager by model. I manually installed drivers directly off of the discs.I have also downloaded Viewsonic's monitor drivers. I can't get my 22" to go to it's native resolution of 1680x1050.I have had these installed for a long time and working fine. When I ran a hard disc error check that is listed under tools under properties of my computer it erased my 22" and it's capabilities to operate @ native resolution. Another difference is that before I manually installed the VX2235, it was listed as a 'non plug and play monitor' under device manager. I have never seen that before. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am this close to going out and buying a new XP Pro disc.

Why not just uninstall the monitor drivers you installed and reboot and use the Vista drivers?

Start there.

My monitor is 1.5 years old and has been working perfectly. (I take very good care of my monitor!) Yesterday, with no warning, the screen slightly dimmed and then went black. The "on-off" switch flickered. I tried disconnecting it from my CPU and unplugging it from the electrical source and I tried re-booting my computer. None of this made any difference. I have a new video card but connected the monitor to another computer just in case the new card was bad. Again, no results. I hate to think that a 1.5 year old monitor needs to be replaced. Any suggestions? Thanks!

A:Viewsonic VX910 problem...

Does it even go to standby mode ? If you simply connect the monitor to a power socket & not to a computer, when you turn it on it should go into standby mode. If it doesn't even do that then it is your monitor that's at fault (& probably needs to be sent in for repair).

I have a ViewSonic 19" CRT monitor (bought new in '99) connected to a PC that runs Win XP SP2, 512 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium AGP card.

The system ran fine until I moved it (carefully) to another room. The CPU boots but the monitor does not give any video. I get a black screen with a repetetive blue area that indicates no signal. The specific line entry is "No Synch". I think I may have seen this in the past, when the monitor was powered on but the CPU was shut off. I can't be certain it's the exact same condition.

I switched cables and tried a different video card but no luck. I don't have another monitor other than my laptop. I think I can hook it up to act as a monitor but not certain. Can't afford to crash the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Ok, no laughing when you read this.....I just bought a new Dell 660 computer that has Windows 7 on it. I can't get my monitor to work on it. Ok, so don't laugh, but it has been a good monitor that was manufactured in 1997......Viewsonic E771.....you know the old, bulky thing. I told myself that I would not buy a new one until this one died. I'm on my third computer with this monitor. Can I get this thing to work with my new Dell?

Hello I recently recieved a a90f CRT 19inch viewsonic monitor

http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/aseries/a90fplus/index.htm

When I plug it in and connect to pc, the yellow power light turns on. When I turn on the pc the yellow light turns to green as normal, but the screen stays black.

I have tried it on as low as 800x600 resolution and on 2 different PC's. Video card ATI radeon 128mb 9800 pro.

Is this a defective monitor? and is it able to be fixed? Or is is most likely a tube problem, or am I missing something in my ignorance. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

The fact that you`ve tried the monitor on two different pc`s, would suggest to me that the monitor is faulty.

I have a four year old 19" viewsonic monitor-just recently its started shutting itself off for no apparent reason. If I press the power button it comes on again-for a while. Tried it on a different PC and same problem

Is this a known fault with monitors and is it likely to be worth repairing I wonder?

I have a custom build system that has performed flawlessly since I built it about 15 months ago. I just purchased from Costco, a ViewSonic VA2012wb LCD and it is able to do everything (MSOffice, Internet, etc.) except run my games (Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, etc). Call of Duty upon launch, causes a black screen with 'out of range' complete with system hang - requiring reboot. MOHAA attempts to launch, but fails with the message 'GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem'. All ran fine with my old 17" CRT.
My config is:
Custom Build - P4 3.00GHz PC3200 DDR-1.0GB RAM XP Pro SP2
128MB ATI All-in-Wonder 9600
ViewSonic VA2012wb LCD (used in analog mode) 1680x1050 60Hz(defaults)
HP CD-Writer+ 9100 / SONY DRU 720A DVD RW
WD80GB / WD120GB / APC UPS
DirectX 9.0
I have looked for updates and patches to address the errors at the sites of ATI, ViewSonic, and Windows Updates, with no relief.
I hope someone is familiar with this and can offer a hand.
Thanks - LB

My Viewsonic LCD monitor flashes on and off depending on what I am viewing. I can view pages in any program that has writing or a small number of small pictures without too much trouble. A web page with lots of pictures or the desktop and screen saver are the worst. The monitor flashes off so much on these last pages that I can barely see the page long enough to move the mouse and open a program or expand one from the start bar. I have checked cables, changed power cord, and checked video card drivers. Viewsonic website was no help. Anyone with any ideas?

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor trouble.........

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do you happen to know if you are operating the monitor at or beyond its normal operating range for resolution and refresh rates?

Do you get a stable image if you start Windows with a lower resolution in Safe mode?

In the future, it would help us to help you if you give more details like the model number of the monitor and how it is connected to the computer. The TSG reporting utility program does not produce an exhaustive and detailed report about all of the hardware related to your computer.

My 2nd attempt to get some help off the forums

A few days ago, I tried loading up Warcraft 3, a game, and the screen went black, with the light flashing on and off. If I alt tabbed out of WC3 the screen turned back on. The problem persisted after a restarted, so I left it for a while. A few hours later I tried and W3 worked fine, no problems.

However today I turn on my PC and after a few seconds during the boot up, the screen goes blank with the flashing on and off light again. I restart it and it goes blank even faster.
After a while on the forums (on my GFs laptop) I try pressing F8 before the screen goes blank, and then press ESC for the 'default' Boot option. It goes on to boot up normally, with screen errors. I test out warcraft 3, (since when I first saw this it was whilst starting up this program) and it works fine, and goes on to do so for a few hours, till I turn the screen off and on to see if the problem is permanently fixed. It hasn't, the screen goes black.
Upon restarting my PC I get the same error as before, Pressing F8 and Esc doesn't fix it anymore. However now after pressing Esc I get to the screen where they ask me if I would like to Boot up in Safe mode. I do so and it loads up in safe mode fine.
Later on I try again to get it to load in normal mode, it does first time. Then upon loading Warcraft 3 again, the screen goes black again, with the flashing light. Again rebooting results in the same black screen a few seconds into loading... Read more

I've got a Viewsonic P95f+ monitor.

19" CRT

I keep the brightness at medium level, but it regularly goes darker (Grey/washed out) and it gets harder to read the print (Seems blurry). I haven't nailed down a pattern, but I'd say every 15-20 minutes or so. It lasts 1-10 minutes, then goes back to my regular brightness.

The monitor is probably 5-7 years old, but I've had no problems until now. I recently put in a new power supply and graphics card in my PC, but I can't say if this started before or after those changes.

Could this be a problem with a driver/the graphics card/power supply, or is it just time to get a new monitor? Any tips on how to diagnose?

Thanks,
Eddie

Sounds like you will need a new monitor. Since it is happening fairly often hook it up to another computer and see if the same thing happens.

I just replaced a 1280x1024 Viewsonic monitor, that had gone bad, with another one (Viewsonic VA708).

Though I've never really been one to pay "hard hard" attention to how things look on a monitor - never felt a problem with anything - something just looks/feels "off" with this one.

This is most noticeable to me on the titles appearing on the browser tabs in Firefox. They just look "wrong" - watery maybe to my eye.

BUT... I have attached a screenshot comparing a blowup of a browser tab from my work computer Dell 1280x1024 monitor (top) and my new Viewsonic monitor (bottom), blown up to 1000 px wide (I cropped), and in the blowup, I can't tell the difference.

So why might I be perceiving things differently with this new monitor?

FWIW, I did update the driver from the Viewsonic site, and I also played with both the monitor's and the control panel's display adjustments.
