Weird problem with Monitor after updating drivers.

Q: Weird problem with Monitor after updating drivers.

Ok, so I updated my Intel GMA 965 Chipset driver,
and there is a weird problem

The colors on the monitor of the LAPTOP ( I have an Inspiron 1525 ) seem to be completely messed up, but when I connect a second monitor to the laptop, the problems are NOT on that monitor. On The connected monitor everything seems to work completely fine.

I have windows vista 32 bit, if it matters.

*EDIT* it displays both monitors as "1" When I click " identify Monitor "

A: Weird problem with Monitor after updating drivers.

Please tell us more about the monitors you are testing with.

Are you referring to two external monitors, and one of those external monitors isn't working as it should?

Or, are you talking about the laptop's own display that is corrupt, but is fine on an external monitor?

I've no idea what's going on here, but NONE of my drivers are updating and anything new I plug into a USB port, windows 7 won't have anything to do it.

I'm certain something is missing. I don't know if it's a virus or some kind, but I can tell you now that my install shield (64 bit) is missing.

What on earth is going on? It won't even recognise a new mouse or keyboard!

There really HAS to be a way of fixing it. I posted a few pictures about it but it seems strange that it won't even install a monitor properly???? The monitor I'm using now is still usable, but it doesn't have it's own driver and as a result some software won't work on it as it acts as a secondary monitor (although it works fine and is actually pretty darn good).

Is there a way around this? I've tried an update and windows still won't detect it!

Please help, reinstalling windows is a real pain as I have a custom made PC that my friend built (who has now moved away really far) so I have no idea how to reinstall the graphics card, do a proper partition, etc. And I know NOTHING about this. If I did it I may screw things up and lose all the saved stuff on my partition.

If someone could help out that would be much appreciated.

I am current using a Nvidia 9800 GTX/GTX+ with driver version It works fine at this setting. Yet whenever I try to update the driver, whether its to a more recent version or a slightly older one, my monitor will go blank after the windows splash screen. I recently had some other issues with my PC, but those were related to RAM and at this point I have updated the RAM and the blue screens from that have gone away. I was hoping that doing that would fix this issue, but obviously it has not. What might be causing this problem and how do I go about fixing it?

I suppose I should also mention that this is only when booting windows normally, I can still access safe mode perfectly fine.

A:Monitor goes blank after updating drivers

Drivers make so little difference, that I would first see how it runs with the driver that works. You probably do not need to make a change. You simply will not see a reason to change unless you are changing a specific component.

I recently updated my drivers for my nvidia graphics card. After rebboting the machine i found that i could no longer see a display on my monitor.

Is there any way in which i could revert back to the old drivers without being able to see anything on the screen?

any information would be apreciated

A:No Monitor Display After Updating Nvidia drivers

You should be able to boot and POST atleast, is this the case? If this is the case, go into safe mode and go to device manager using the below method - once here, search for the drivers for your card and right click, properties, uninstall (or rollback, which will change them to your last most recent drivers for your card).

I have a asus ux305ca. Has a gma 515. Latop comes with windows 10 x64. If i update the gma drivers, either manually or via windows update (insider builds which includes an updated driver). The machine will work fine, but after sleep and you open the lid, the monitor won't wake. You can however install the older driver asus has on their website which will restore functionality.
Is this a bios problem or what exactly is not compatible with the newer intel drivers?

So obviously I've tried looking for the answer to this over the net to no avail, either because it's not too common, or maybe I'm using the wrong keywords. I know about the not sleeping issue some rigs got affected with after upgrading, but if I am reading correctly, my problem is different. My laptop (an ASUS X450L) can sleep fine if I press the power button or if I close the lid. The problem is when leaving it alone. It's set to sleep after 15min of no activity, and it never does. It used to sleep just fine before update, so right now I am not sure what new process came up to keep it awake. I already had a look at this site: How to Find Out What's Keeping Your Computer from Going to Sleep, and it didn't help. It says that SideSync by Samsung is keeping my system awake, but this was a recent add-on which was installed after I noticed the problem.

As an experiment, I tried turning the screen off, with the laptop still running but with no user-opened programs running. The screen just pops back on after a few seconds, even if I did not touch the mouse or keyboard.

So basically, help in identifying the creep that keeps my rig awake.

Hi there people!!

I would like to upgrade my VGA drivers, so I can see if I get better performance on some stuff (like games and so...)... the problem is that in they have no upgrades for my model (in my sig), so, I was willig that the generic drivers provided in AMD can do for my lappy... I used the Udate advisor app from them and says that 11.8 driver is the latest for me... but is known that manufacturers do specific mods for the device drivers...

Do you recomend upgrading with the latest AMD drivers or I need to wait for Acer to release a new set?

Thanks In advance.

See ya!!!!

A:Updating ATI VGA Drivers, Will I get any problem?

If Acer don't have any updated drivers you can by all means try the manufacturer's latest offerings.

Create a restore point first, so that if you encounter a problem you can always restore your computer to a time before you updated the driver.

In addition, you need to be aware that the manufacturer's drivers will probably have different functionality to your OEM (Acer) drivers, and if you experience a problem you can always just roll back to the previous driver by going into device manager and expanding the graphics adapter then clicking the Driver tab.

I have a 10 year old computer Gateway E-2000 and I downloaded al the drivers using driver max I get a problem with my audio it says code 10 and now there is no sound, is there anyway to fix this problem and is there a good driver updating software Ethan's free and would download the drivers and everything connected to the computer, and downloads all unrecognized devices?

A:Updating drivers problem

I can't find an E-2000 at the Gateway site. Yours is a 2003 model and they probably don't have any support for it anymore.

I did find a site that has free downloads for that model though. You can go here, Gateway drivers.

But there may have been a restore function for that model which is either a sector on the HDD, in which case while it's going through POST it will show you a 'Restore' option, or there use to be a 'Restore' CD. Either option will restore the computer to like new setup with all the appropriate drivers, as long as the hardware is the same.

Hi and welcome to Techspot. Try this: uninstall the drivers completely. then go into your hard drive and delete the ati folder and all the files. next go here and download driver cleaner pro and install it. run all the ati cleaners. then, reboot your PC. after reboot, let windows load, then reboot AGAIN. after next reboot, reinstall all the drivers you need.

Hello Everyone,

I have Windows Vista and an ATI X800GTO, and up until a few hours ago my graphics card driver version was 7.2.
I upgraded to version 7.4 and then the problems began - At first I had a BSOD with nothing in it, then I entered safe mode and reverted my drivers to an earlier version. Then I had another BSOD with a "win32k.sys" message. Then I did a system restore back to when I installed 7.4, but after that Windows would boot and I would see only the mouse icon, with a black screen in the background (both in normal and safe mode).

I have 2 partitions in my computer - one Vista and one XP, so now I'm on my XP.
Is there something I can do to fix this problem?
Can I somehow install drivers from my XP partition on the Vista partition?

Thank you very much,

I'm trying to update my display drivers, but I've run into a problem. I can uninstall my current drivers fine, but once I restart my computer it automatically reinstalls them. It doesn't ask me, it doesn't give me the option to cancel it. This does not allow me to install the new drivers.

I've googled like a mad man trying to turn this off, and unchecked a few boxes that seem like they SHOULD turn it off, but still it reinstalls the old drivers every time.

A:Display Drivers Auto-Updating Problem

Why take chances updating drivers?

The new drivers will replace the current ones when installed, so having the old ones present is not a problem. They wll be replaced after installation and the next restart, unless they are incorrect ones. If they were the result of some scan for "driver updates", they may well be incorrect.

Hello all, I just signed up just for this.

A few hours ago, my monitor went static for at least a second. Afterwards, it ended up messing my monitor settings. Now it's all stretched out and no longer even. For the past few hours I tried manually fixing it back with the buttons on the monitor, but with no luck. So I was wondering if anyone would offer some tips or hopefully, a way to at least make it back to default. By the way, it's hard to read things on the corner. Thank you all and hope to hear a reply soon.

Hey guys. I'm new here, so hello So, after hours of googling and trying tons of other forums, I thought about this forum, which may help me. I tried to search here, but didn't find anything similar to mine problem. Anyway, let me say my trouble.

Recently I've bought new PC. Specs are : CPU - E6750 , VGA - CLUB 3D 8800GTX , RAM - 2Gb PATRIOT 800Mhz. Also, my monitor - Samsung 940n.

First week of using it, I didn't notice any problems, everything worked fine and smoothly. But then, after a lot of gaming, this started :

When I'm playing something and there is some action(fire, explosions, fast moving etc.) my monitor starts to blink. It's not drastic, but pretty noticeable. Also, when it does it, it makes weird noise.

I hope YOU will help me, because it's annoying :/

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english...

I having an issue with dark colors on my monitor. It basically looks like they are going fuzzy sorta like tv channels do if you're getting bad reception with an antenna. I first thought this might be a driver problem/virus problem or something software related, but I hooked up my other lcd and had no problems. I'm now guessing that it is a monitor problem, and am hoping someone here can help me save my 19" lcd because I don't have money to buy another. It is a sony sdm-s81. Basically I want to know if it sounds like my monitor is just going out and there is nothing that can be done about it or if it sounds like something is just messed up somewhere and is fixable.

I just visited a web page with a very dark background and the entire page has this problem but within a few seconds it fades away and only remains on dark colored images. I also decided to check to see how bad this problem would effect any games I might play, and there was no effect at all. The game(call of duty 2) looked as beautiful as it ever has.

Thanks for all your help,

Okay here is my problem. I have a NEC FP912SB, WIndows XP Pro, P4 2.4, 512 mb, Geforce 4200. WHen I boot up, my computer screen is fine. After the windos splash screen finishes it goes black. I have to turn off the monitor, unplucg it from the computer, turn it back on, and plug it back in then the screen pops on. I went into properties and installed the latest monitor drivers from NEC/Mitsubishi. If I go to properties, settings, then advanced, the same thing happens and I have to go through the above drill. I don't know what is going on with it, and it is frustrating.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem coudl be? Also my lower left hand screen is yellowing like a magnetic field is hitting it. THis just started. FInally, my geometry is all messed up. I tried installing Naviset to help fix it, but the program won't recongize the monitor as NEC even though it is. Are there any programs that help with convergence. My gemoetry is awful.

A:Weird Monitor Problem

The first thing I would do is hook to another computer and see what happens. Let windows install the drivers and i would not update them and see what happens. If it still does the same thing, the monitor is probably dying. Convergence is a hardware thing in the monitor which is what makes me think it may be the monitor. If it works on another computer then it is time to look at the video card.

So my problem is that my computer for some reason causes the picture on my monitor (LG Flatron W2453V) to be interrupted and goes black for 2-3 seconds then it comes back again. This is a very sporadic instance, sometimes it will do it 3 times in a row or not for 3 hours sometimes it will do it constantly. It also doesn't matter what I am doing It will do it when my computer is simply viewing the desktop with nothing running. I have checked for viruses with AVG Antivirus, made sure absolutely everything was up to date ... yes my video card drivers are up to date. Adjusted the screen refresh rate (no noticeable difference) and it is a performance computer so all of my hibernation and monitor sleep settings are set to never. The weird thing is that my computer is plugged into 2-3 monitors at all times and it is only my main one, the LG, that has this problem. When it does it's screen refresh thingy my other monitors stay on and working properly, I am very confused any suggestions or comments will be helpful thanks! Dear all,
Can you help me with this odd problem? I have a Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter installed on Windows XP. It runs a program called 'Wireless Monitor', which I think is WLanCfgG.exe. This 'wireless monitor' shows as a blue pc in the system tray (similar to the Windows one) and, for some reason, keeps reloading. It will continuously create a new icon in the system tray every 30 seconds or so. It's very annoying to keep seeing the task load up and my system tray become full of these little blue computers!
If I run the mouse over them, they disappear then start to load again. Any ideas?

Okay, so I help the computer tech at my school, and we've been having a weird problem with USB devices that neither of us can figure out.

For some reason, when the USB flash drive is plugged in (in our case, a Kingston Datatraveler 2.0), nothing happens. So, we checked disk management, nothing appeared to be out of order, then we checked Device manager.

here's the gist of it:

1. I plug the USB device in, the little sound plays that says something is plugged in, and then nothing happens.
2. I go to device manager and the Kingston Datatraveler 2.0 thing has a yellow exclamation point next to it. I right click and hit "update drivers". All is well, but I notice that the generic USB also has a yellow exclamation point. I update the drivers, all is well.
3. I open up a brand-new Kingston Datatraveler 2.0 and plug it in. It's as if I didn't do the above steps, and I have to repeat them.

This happens on some of the computers in a lab at the school, while the other computers recognize all USB devices, no problem. They are all brand-new, out-of-the-box computers, same hardware, same everything, down to the keyboard and mouse.

Some things to note:
1. Once one flash drive is installed and ready, it'll work in ALL computers in the lab. So I'm thinking, does the drive store some random file or something that is hidden? (I did view hidden files, nothing there)
2. XP can find the drivers fine, it just doesn't do it automat... Read more

Ok, here's a weird one for everyone out there.

Last night I'm happily playing morrowind as a storm's a brewin outside. I, as stupid as I can be, don't want to turn off my computer because I am enjoying myself. So of course the power goes out and my computer shuts off. I didn't turn it back on, I just went to sleep.

Next morning I wake up at 12, turn it on, no problems. 3 o clock rolls around, still no problem. Then I get home around 5 o clock, turn on the monitor, start doing a few things and bam suddenly a few items in the task bar turn black, and the monitor goes into suspend mode as if it's not getting a signal at all.

I freak out, and start to try different things. I turn it back on after a few minutes, and in the BIOS startup screen and the windows boot screen I get lots of little artifacts and weird graphical glitches.

I figure it is myvideo card, so I take it out, swap in another video card and things seem to be running alright again.

So I take the supposedly messed up card out (Geforce 4 Ti4400) and put it into my other computer. That computer gets the same glitches on startup, but when it gets to windows the monitor does not go into susprned mode, it continues to get a signal.

So here's where it gets weird. on that same computer I install the newest nvidia drivers, and as soon as I did that the problem starts again.
So I reseat my heatsink and fan, put it back into the original conmputer and roll back to some older nvidia driv... Read more

I am experiencing a strange power problem with my monitors. I have two, each hooked up to a Radeon HD 800 series video card with dual DVI connectors.

The problem is this: When I have my computer working as normal, if I switch off my secondary monitor, and then switch it back on, my primary monitor's display garbles and goes out for a second until my secondary monitor is back on. Also, anything that was displaying on my secondary monitor does not refresh and I can not access those programs.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this?

My computer started doing this a couple of weeks ago. When I power it does not send a signal to the monitor. I have removed all internal parts except for the PSU, the processor, RAM and vidoe card and it still does the same.

PSU - OKIA 450 w (new)
CPU intel dual core
RAM 1 gig
Video - geforce 6600LE 256 mb
MOBO - p4m800pro-m2 rev2.0

I replaced the PSU. it now has a OKIA 450 watt PSU and reseated the RAM, CPU and video card and still the same. The vidoe card requires an additional Molex connection for power. I found that if I disconnect this then the computer, monitor and video card are operational however when i loaded the driver for the geforce card it did state the Molex connector was not connected so the card was lowering its performance due to this. When I reconnect the Molex connector on the vidoe card, everything hangs up again and no signal to the monitor.

this mobo does have on board vga. I tested that and it works fine. any idead on the graphics card issue?

Wassup Tech Forum,

My first post here so If I posted it in the wrong place by accident, I'm sorry

Now, onto the problem.

I got this very weird problem with my EEE B202 Computer.
The problem is:

When I put in a monitor (like a Philips I92E) the screen WILL show visuals a.k.a. the pc booting. When I put in another screen, doesn't really matter what kind of screen, what normally happens is that it doesn't show anything. No bootscreen, nothing.

BUT then I just change the screen back to the Philips, and go to screen resolution, and lower it to the lowest 800x600, and it WILL work with the other screens :0, even showing the boot!

It's very weird. Because windows XP screen resolution settings, shouldn't have anything to do with the bootscreen.

So I've gone ahead and it seemed that there weren't any drivers installed for the graphics. I managed to find some and installed those. Now it shows a lot more resolutions in my settings, but the problem is still the same.

I checked the bios version which is completely up to date.

I'm completely lost. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Recently I have decided to update the USB 3.0 drivers on my MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard as it turned out that they weren't installed, and because I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick. When I just got this motherboard I didn't install them as after doing so I got a BSOD and had to do a system restore. Now that I've seen that a newer version is available, I decided to update along side my BIOS and other drivers. The updates went find with no problems, and the USB 3.0 ports are working great.

However, every time I start up my PC there's like a 10 second delay before I can use anything connected to the USB ports, which is rather annoying as some of my programs rely on some of the USB devices to be connected at startup, so I have to configure them one by one manually after startup. What has also happened is that the desktop icon positions aren't saving, and nor is the position/size of windows.

I'm thinking that it may have also been something to do with the registry as I cleaned it with CCleaner (not a good idea, it broke my Chrome updates a while ago). Can anyone please help? I'm really out of options and this is really annoying me. So far I tried to make it so that all of the USB related services are run automatically on startup, I tried restoring the old registry... Perhaps there's a way to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

I have a ATI Radeon 7500 and i can't let windows 7 Build 7600 find it. It says under display monitor its a Standard VGA graphics adapter. I'm getting really annoyed because i can't play counter-strike...and i installed many different drivers for it but it just doesn't work. and i also wanted the Control Center but idk how as well. I upgraded today to windows 7 from XP...and dumb me didnt backup ANYTHING after a full clean wipe. So im getting really agitated and not patient about it. please help!!

and as well with my monitor display says Generic pnp Monitor and i can't find the drivers for my monitor anywhere! even on the gateway site. I have a 19" Gateway LE HD widescreen. please help me!

A:Display and Monitor Drivers PROBLEM!!

I'm assuming that's an AGP card? I'll set you up with how to install the latest 9.10 beta. I'm almost sure I can get your card to work with this under 7. All you need to do is go to device manager, right click card and choose properties, go to details tab, change the property drop down to say hardware ids. There should be shown a few lines.

What is the exact 4 digit number next to dev_ in any of them? I'll make you an .inf. In the meantime, download this driver and run it to extract to c:\ati. When the installer is done extracting, then close it...which is before it start actually installing. Then I'll have further instructions later.

Hello, It would be outstanding if one of you intelligent gentlemen or ladies could help me with this issue.

I have a chaintech 7NIL motherboard and a chaintech FX5600 video card set to a digital Viewsonic VG171b which I have had for a few years.

The problem is that the monitor will flicker periodically. It is not flickering constantly, as per a refresh rate issue, but rather at random times. Sometimes the right side of the screen will flash a quick line, sometimes the whole picture just adjusts/flickers.

It is not a big issue that prevents normal use of the computer, but it is quite annoying!

I have the latest nVidia drivers. I have the refresh rate and resolution set ot the native for the LCD, and I have tried chanign the quality settings within the computer, but it hasn't worked.

Any suggestions?

A:Problem with Monitor and Video Drivers?

Plug out the monitor from the graphics card and check for dirt. Assuming there is none then try it on someone elses to see if the same thing happens. Double check the refresh rate on your and your friends computer. If it happens on there computer then there could be something wrong with the monitor. If it behaves normally then im stumped. Could be something with the graphics card. Try another monitor with it to see if the same flickering accours. It happens sometimes on my laptop but only when the bulb is warming up. OH The Bulb? that could be causing it. Dont know how to check though.

I recently updated my AMD Radeon 7770 series graphics card driver to the latest (6.3) version.
Turning on my computer several days later I saw a significant downgrade in graphic quality characterized by a strange hue (as if the contrast is turned way too high).
I tried to find a clue in the computer, Windows (7) and AMD software settings to no avail. Trying to change the color (e.g hue, contrast, etc.) in any of these settings did not help either.
Moreover, it appears that the odd effect goes away when I uninstall the graphics drivers and comes back whenever I reinstall them, regardless of the driver version.
Is there any way to fix this? Is my graphics card ruined?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi everyone.
Yesterday I bought a new monitor (Packard Bell viseo 190W), I've plugged it to my computer, but something is not working: while windows (I've XP pro) is loading the logo appears and everything seems to be ok, but just before the "user-interface" loads, the monitor goes black showing a "NO SIGNAL" message. I tried to uninstall ati-drivers (my graphic card is ati radeon 9250, 256MB ram), it works but obviously is in low mode graphic. If i try to reinstall catalyst + drivers the problem comes back. I tried Omega drivers too, same problem :\

What should I do? Any suggestions?

I ran DriverScanner (from Uniblue - PowerSuite) and it said I need 4 driver updates:
Printer Port Logical Interface
Easy Internet Keyboard
Canon MX700 Series printer
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

Then I ran a complete scan at PCpitstop and it said I needed 2 driver updates that were completely different:
Realteck HiDef Audio
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS

How am I supposed to know which drivers REALLY need updating?

A:How do I know which Drivers need updating?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If your computer has been working properly, I would suggest leaving it as is since the drivers have been doing what they were intended to. If you are suddenly experiencing problems with old drivers you should reinstall them. Usually, the only time that you need to update drivers is if they fail to perform with new hardware.

Here are the general guidelines. Any questions or problems, just ask.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page:
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page:
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
You can also locate information about your driver using this information
Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices

These are the latest graphics drivers for your card. When Windows says it has the best drivers, that just means that nothing newer is currently on the computer, but there can still be newer ones online.

If that doesn't work, then tell use what games you're trying to play, it could be that they just don't support that card.

Hi Everyone!

This is my first post to this forum! Anyway, I 'uninstalled' Windows Vista for my friend and then reinstalled Windows XP since my friend didn't like the Vista OS. I downloaded the XP OS fine, however, after not being able to get on the internet, I looked at the Device Manager in the XP OS on his laptop. I found these 'devices' had a yellow exclamation mark beside them:

ethernet controller (listed twice)
pci device
sm bus controller
unknown device
video controller

I ran the program PC Wizard on his laptop, and this is what showed under System Summary:

Manufacturer: Seanix Technology Inc.
Mainboard: Wistron 303C
Chipset: Nvidia GeForce 8200M
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM 42 @2100MgHz
Physical Memory: 2048MB
Video Card: Nvidia Corp.
Hard Disk: Toshiba 160GB
Network Card: Nvidia Corp.
Network Card: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5006

Now, my problem, is that I need to find the drivers for the above mentioned
devices, especially the ethernet and video devices, as without them, I haven't been able to get on the internet, while the screen keeps having a
'cascading' effect. I'm going to see my friend next week, and I need to have
the laptop 'fixed' so that my friend can get on the internet and also not have any problems with the video. Since my friend didn't get any 'recovery' disks when he bought the laptop, I need to be able to fix the device manager problems before I give him back the laptop! Thanks!

I have gone thru a clean up of my computer on the malware forum, and it was suggested that I make sure to update drivers after the last cleaning. This is XP Pro SP3. I found a website which advertises they can scan your system and give you a list of drivers that are critical to update or recommended you update or if you should want a backup, here's a driver. The downloads are free but you pay an annual subscription.

Looked like a deal so I did the download and paid but the problem I saw was that it recommended drivers for things I did not have, drivers for 64bit systems, all kinds of things. I tried to ask why they would recommend drivers for things I did not have but never could get a straight answer. So I cancelled that subscription.

My question is there a website the experts on this forum know and use that is reliable, that can give you a list of needed updates or newer drivers specifically for your system?

A:Updating Drivers

The only place you should be going for stable, reliable drivers is the manufacturer of your computer (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc) if it's OEM or the specific manufacturer of your hardware if purchased separately. Avoid "Driver Download" software because as you found out, you'll only have problems.

I want to update my drivers. I already have all the latest drivers from the HP support page for my computer, but I think a few of them may be out of date. Problem is that I cannot find the exact model number of my installed hardware. For example, my Intel display chip just lists as "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family", which isn't helpful at all.

Is there some program i can download that will tell me the exact hardware models I have, etc?

A:Updating drivers

Here you have the direct link for the download center:

That's your Chipset.

You could also check the manufacturer's website, let's say you have a Realtek HD Audio Card. instead of downloading it from the HP website, go to the Realtek website. of course this is just an example

Check the manufacturers of your PC's devices. and then do some research although most likely you have all your drivers updated (if you have installed the latest from your OEM's website)

Audio: IDT High Definition (need to download from HP's Website)
Video: Intel, from the link above. AMD from here AMD Graphics Drivers & Software
Touchpad: Drivers | Synaptics
Network: Atheros: (unofficial) ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (need to search your model), realtek LAN: Realtek, Intel pro: intel download center (above)
Storage: Realtek Card Reader: the same link i posted above (Realtek)

That'd be it. the other devices, download them from HP.

heya there.

Just got one short question: could anyone help me find the correct driver to update with?

I'm currently looking at my system information and I've got an ATI Radeon X1250 Graphics Card and at date it says 27.07.2007.

I really should update it, right?

so I was wondering if anyone could help me by giving me some pointers at this, I'm kind of unexperienced at such things.
I'm running on Windows Vista: Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) 32bit.

which leads to my other question, which goes a little off-topic here.
But how can I check if I've got SP1 or not? I had it before I rolled back my computer, but did it also get removed?
I'm currently downloading both SP1 and SP2 just incase

I was just reading through some posts on here and have found updates for realtek hd audio driver and many others. Why is it device manager doesnt find these updates and is it just best to manually visit the sites and check for updates yourself.Or is there another way to check. Also which driver updates are most important i presume my graphics card must be well outdated by now
Any help much appreciated thankyou

A:Updating drivers

If you don't have Windows 7 updater latest release installed (came out just after W7 was released) and allow it to search for third party updates you won't be advised of updates. Go to Asus Downloads and Updates section and check for updates by your particular model and OS and I'm guessing you will find updates. Your device manager would find an update if it were in a directory on your PC but I find it is usually not intuitive enough to find one on the web.

You may also wish to think about the mantra "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", updated drivers can be a good thing but not always. Loads of OEM's actually work with the industry folks and have dedicated drivers for their components and Asus is no exception to this so it would be in your best interest to check there first especially with a laptop.

I want to update my video card drivers on my ATI Radeon 9800XT to the Catalyst 5.11s (not the 5.12s because there is a known issue with one game and those drivers). How can I go about doing so? I'm looking for a step by step tried-and-true method of doing this. Instructions on ATI's site have been different from instructions on other forums, so I'm kinda confused.

I am aware that the first thing I need to do is install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 from Windows Update. Then I should reboot my computer I assume?

Then I guess I download the 5.11s and safe the .exe to my desktop? I understand that I need to remove the old drivers, first from Add/Remove Programs. Do I remove all of the ATI entries? Can this be done in normal mode or must this be done in Safe Mode?

Once I remove the drivers from the Control Panel, do I restart my computer then or should I run something like DriverCleaner? Again, should this be done in normal mode or safe mode? ATI had instructions to remove entries from the registry and delete all ATI referenced folders on the hard drive. Do I have to do this or does Driver Cleaner take care of it for me? I have also been told I have to delete my video card entries under the Device Manager, but I'm not so sure about that. It doesn't seem necessary does it?

After I reboot my computer, I'm sure the "Windows has detected new hardware" box will come up. ATI tells me to let it do that, but some other sites say I should X out o... Read more

Hi, I don't know much about this kind of think at all. I was told that updating my drivers might help a game run faster. Here is what I read:

"Make sure you update all your drivers. This is important for those slackers who only want to play and don't bother to update your drivers. There are essentially 3 types of drivers to update. Motherboard / Chipset drivers, video card drivers, sound drivers. For those of you who changed your video card from Nvidia to Ati vice versa, you might want to use a driver cleaner to clear out the old files. These drivers, driver cleaners etc could be found at or if you're using ATI cards, some people found to be good for them. "

The problem is that I am completely confused. I don't know how to navigate those websites. I don't even know what kind of drivers I had. I remember trying to do this by myself years ago, and I nearly broke my computer. Please help.

A:Need help updating drivers

You first need to know what hardware you are downloading drivers for and the manufacturer's web sites are the best source. Download Everest and you can get a start from there by identifying your hardware and chipsets.

the other 3 im having a really hard time trying to figure out...

one says high definition audio device...(i guess it doesnt give me alot of detail bcuz its the trial version of driver detective) i dont have a sound card...i have 6 channel onboard audio...i have a asus m3a motherboard...if that helps determine my problem any

the other two that need updated are:
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

any help would be much appreciated...ive searched around for the drivers...but i dont really know what im looking for or where to look to be quite honest...

A:need help updating drivers

Hi kapitald and welcome to the forums

I don't actually recommend the use of a program such as "driver detective". Instead, I periodically check the manufacturer's website for any updates. The only drivers that I update are the graphics and audio. Links to the relevant web sites for these are given below. Please can you fill in more details on your System Specs as this will help us with any further queries that you might have in the future.

From your motherboard (Asus M3A), I have determined that you have the Realtek ALC883 audio solution, which is high-definition audio.

Since you haven't specified the actual model of your graphics card, this is the main download page from NVidia. You will need to fill in the correct details yourself.

If the new drivers mess up, install the old ones again. They will more than likely be fine if they are on Compaq's site.

I have an old Toshiba Satellite Laptop M series and have decided to try and up date the drivers on it. I ran one of the free scans and it has identified 5 drivers which need updating which are namely:
Canon i850
NVIDIA GeForce FXGe5200
Intel(R) Pro Wireless 2100 LAN 38 Mini PCI Adaptor
Intel (R) Pro /100VE Network Connection
Intel(R) 8280 IDBB PCI Bridge 2448.
I have found free updates for the first two and installed them.
My question is: Can anybody recommend a site where I can get Intel Driver updates and is it worth doing?

A:Updating Drivers

Try and go to the downloads area. It may take awhile to find what you need but it should be there. Some of them are now in an older or achieve folder. When you get to the intel site select then select downloads.

I recently got around to beginning the daunting task of updating the 50-100 drivers, and I have a few questions. The only ones I haven't updated are the ones inside "System devices." Since there are are at least 20-30 of them, I'm wondering whether there is a more efficient method than double clicking each one, selecting the Driver tab, and clicking "Update driver." Also, several of them say, "...this hardware is not connected to the computer," or, "...requires further installation," or both. Does the "...this hardware is not connected to the computer" message mean that I don't have one of those, and how do I resolve the "...requires further installation" messages? I followed Microsoft's instructions, but, as usual, they didn't work.

We need some further info before answering, Please post either the make and model of your computer if bought off the shelf, or if it was custom built we need the makes and model numbers of.
If your computer was bought off the shelf then the maker IE Dell, Hp, Acer will have support pages were you will find the drivers, if it is custom built the Motherboard maker will have support pages with the drivers, if you have a Graphics card then you would get the drivers from the maker of the card. You do not need any third party software and windows update is not always the best place to get drivers.

If you do not have it installed yet, I wonder, how it can tell, you have outdated drivers, sounds like a scam.
Even if you use a software for checking drivers, it is better to find the download yourself from a trusted source.

I run 64 bit Vista.

A:Updating Drivers

If you are not experiencing display or sound problems, and do not play intensely graphic games, you can probably not worry about updating your drivers. If, on the other hand, you have never updated your drivers, it would be a good idea to do so, as well as to save them to disk in case of later computer problems.

Is there a "safe" and good programme that makes life easier for updating drivers?

Some I have used in the past have tended to cause more problems than they have fixed. Trying to eliminate an ongoing problem I have at the moment. Not at any one particular moment but keep getting a message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". All that happens is that desktop "empties" and then recovers. Doesn't affect anything else. Ruled out Virus. Memory and Graphics cards are only 6 months old. Computer was professionally re-built at the time.

Not very technically minded. Been told it may be a 3rd party shell extension causing the problem but suspect there is no easy way to get to the bottom of that.

Wanted to update all drivers just to eliminate one more thing

Any suggestions would be gratefully received. thanks

A:Updating Drivers

Definitely update your drivers yourself. If there are auto-updaters from the hardware manufacturers themselves those tend to be alright (albeit they still consume RAM), but I don't think the scenario has improved at all for those "magic bullet" update-all-drivers softwares.

Have you tried System Restore to fix your problem?

I recommend going to the manufacturers website for the hardware
you want to update drivers on.
That way you always get the latest.
If the computer manufacturer doesn't have updates (factory computer like a dell),
Then you can check sites like graphics manufacturers for the latest.
You shouldn't lose your network unless you get the wrong driver.
If your computer is custom built, always go to the manufacturers site
of the hardware for driver updates.
I never use those all in one programs like drivermax.
