Solved: Acer Aspire One, works fine, screen is black

Q: Solved: Acer Aspire One, works fine, screen is black

I've gone through the usual searches, but the one thing that is different here is that the netbook still works. I can hold a mini-mag lite up to the screen and it everything is still working.

I did try to update the bios, I don't know which version I have, but I figured it couldn't hurt. My battery is also stuck in the "won't charge because I let it go down too far" status. The new bios was supposed to fix that as well. New version is 3310. I made a bootable flash drive (I think, I'm not sure if I did it correctly as I've never done that before) and attempted to update the bios. It's not doing what Acer and just about everyone else with a how-to says it should be doing.

After about 30 seconds, it just stops booting and starts. Perhaps it had updated the bios, I'm not sure.

But like I said, the computer is still working fine, just no backlighting on the screen so that you can see it. Make sense?

Anything I can do to see if there's just a loose connection or a solder joint I can redo? Thanks!

Hi there
I finally got to buy a small 10.1 in Acer Aspire One 521 Netbook.

Got rid of the W7 Starter edition on it plus all the Crap / Trial / bloatware that usually gets pre-installed on Store purchased machines (The AMD V105 processor has a bit more "oompf" than the usual Intel Atom processors that Netbooks are generally fitted with) and proceeded with a Windows Professional install.

Machine works FINE with Windows Professional W7 x-86 -- although remember to load the BROADCOM Wireless LAN driver BEFORE wiping the old software off your disk or you will have trouble connecting to the Internet.

Running Office 2010 , Photoshop CS5 and IE9 on it. All work fine.

While running photoshop on a 1GB netbook is not normally good to do for long periods it DOES work.

Very happy with this EXTREMLY portable netbook -- only cost me around 220 EUR too.

Its just the ticket for taking on Planes, and trains these days and fits easily into a backpack with your other hand luggage items.

I'd definitely recommend this type of computer for travellers -- of coursse it wont replace a fully specced Laptop or desktop but can be used when you don't need to run loads of VM's etc on a machine.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Solved: black screen on acer aspire

Hi and welcome to TSG.

I am no laptop expert but will try and give you some things to check.

Have you managed to turn the laptop off? Try holding down the power button for up to 10 seconds, this should turn it off.
When you turn it back on do you get anything at all on the screen? Does everything else respond normally, just as if it was booting up (apart from the screen), ie, power light on, hard drive light flashing etc?

If you can't see anything on the screen easily try shining a good torch directly at the screen when you turn it on, and look at it closely, if you can see the normal image by using the torch that would imply that you backlight has failed.

Another possible problem could be the inverter for the screen, these can be changed on most (if not all) laptops. On many it isn't a particularly difficult job (bit fiddly though) but if you are unsure it may be worth getting it checked by a recognised engineer. If you want to try it yourself there are guides on the internet for many makes and models of laptop and I am sure people here will help / guide you through it.

I am leaning toward one of those two because it was left on overnight with the screen locked, this could burn something out, although the screen should turn off when you close the case anyway.

Most desktop monitors, when inactive for periods of time(usually preset in o.s. or altered for individual tastes) saves electricity by powering down the monitor, and let it "sleep", but any programs running on the cpu, continue on, unabated. But with these Acer Aspire All-in-one compters are different, i may be listening to an internet radio station, and even though it's not a computer program running,,after a time of inactivity of my manually working (via my keyboard) or something like that, the screen goes black and it kills the internet connection to the internet radio i am listening to. Yes,,if that happens,,i only have to jiggle or move my mouse to turn the screen back on, but is a real pain to have to continually jar the mouse to keep the radio on. Any ideas on how to avoid this black screen of killing my internet radio, and downloads??or anything going on ,while the screen is active???

Thank you..Tim

Control Panel, Power Options, click on Change advance power settings. In the box that pops up there is a long list of changes you can make. You could increase the time before your hard drive turns off. I have one for my wirless adapter with maximum performance down to low. Your lan may be listed if your not wireless. A combination of increasing the hdd time and lan may get you around the problem.

Went to restart my laptop after noticing a restart and update prompt. After it downloaded the updates it looked as if it went to restart. But nothing happened screen went black, still has power and its charging my phone as I write this. Have tried the hard resets and have taken information from this site from people with similar problems but nothing has worked. Absolutely nothing comes on the screen when hard reset in light you can see power to the screen but it stays black. Anyone have similar issues? It's fairly new and not used too often.

Hi Guys I have an acer aspire 5942g. I turned it off one night, and went to turn it on the next day and now it won't boot up. Doesn't show anything on the screen, the power light comes on, the keyboard back light turns on, the media controls are still useable and the bluetooth light is on solid, but the laptop doesn't display anything or seem to proceed any further as the bluetooth light would normally turn off (no bluetooth module in this laptop).  I have tried the whole remove battery, hold power button down and just turn on with AC adapter plugged in with no effect.  I've taken it apart and reseated the CPU and redid the thermal paste. However I did notice that the old thermal paste has gone onto some of the resistors on the top. Could this cause a short?  It's almost like it's stuck in a sleep mode.  Any suggestions would be highly helpful. I'm worried that the board is dead, but I can't find any replacements online. Thanks,Dan

Sounds like its either the LCD screen or the inverter or the backlight in the lcd screen.

Either way its a fairly easy fix since you just replace them.

Since its a 14" screen from what I could find, your looking at the $100 Range for a new LCD not including installation or an inverter if you need it.

Some people say this works
Push start and immediately hold down start button until it shuts off. Do this three more times, but the third time don't hold the start button. Just leave it and let it run. Do have power cord plugged in. Give it a couple hours or so.

(Hopefully this is in the right subforum)

Hello all! I've been having problems trying to fix this problem and so far I have had no luck.

My computer won't even load up the starting screen, my laptop makes a few starting up noises when I turn it on then after a second or 2 it stops and I cant do anything. Because of that im limited to the amount of techniques used to fix BSODs like going to explorer or whatever people do to fix it.

Before my laptop used to do the problem I just listed above but after turning it off and on a few times it'll start up, but now it's gotten to the point where it won't startup at all no matter how many times I tried.

Sorry if that's not much details, I can't really think of much if I can add more. Any ideas how to fix my laptop?

Hello all:
I have an Acer Aspire 9410-4441 with 2gb pc2 6400s sodimm ram, 160gb Hard drive, windows 7 home prem.
this all started when I tried to upgrade Ram with a 1GB PC2 6400 Sodimm in slot 2. I have been running windows 7 on 2 gb for a year with no issues. When trying to boot the power light turns on, and a light on the left of the keyboard that looks like a square above the Numlock and capslock lights comes on, The DVD drive cycles and looks for a disk to boot the everything halts. no screen just black.
I removed the 1GB stick from slot 2 and traid again to same problem.
I hooked up an external monitor to make sure the LCD, Inverter or cable didn't coincidentally crap out.
I moved the 2Gb to slot 2 Same results
I removed all ram, Hard drive, wireless card same result not even a no ram warning beep.
I believe my bios crapped out while trying to update to the extra 1 gb ram stick.
Is there a way to flash the bios without it being able to boot?
any help is appriciated.

The mouse pointer doesn't appear, the keyboard doesn't answer and my only solution is to force it off by pressing the power button for a few seconds and to turn it back on.I thought it was due to hard drive used at 100% but it seems not, and I really have no idea what it could be. The thing is I've noticed several problems of screen freezing and laptop being slower than usual right after I had installed Windows 10 (about 3 weeks ago). Could this be related?I really need help, please this laptop was already 1000$ I'm not buying a new one so soon.

Hello wnepi2,

You should read this topic (Chigers): black screen - flash bios V5-571
You have the same setup bios utility (V5-531 or V5-571): Phoenix SecureCore Tiano BIOS

To summarize:
1- Download the bios file on the acer support website
2- If it's necessary (Windows version), extract the self-extratible file (*.exe) contained in the zip
    file with 7-zip
3- Format an USB flash drive to FAT or FAT32

My screen went black after long transportation and is probably physically broken.
Unfortunately during several attempts to upgrade windows 8.1 to 10 the Intel graphic driver was inactivated so I can no longer use laptop with neither hdmi nor vga cable.

I've tried to remove cmos battery in order to reset BIOS without success.
Also tried to flash BIOS Q5WV1221.exe file from a USB-stick (fat32) pressing Fn + Esc + power button without success.

Would it activate Intel Graphic driver to flash BIOS with USB-stick? How is that done?
Any suggestions how to activate Intel Graphic driver with a totally black screen?

I have a black screen on my Acer Apire 4552 Laptop. I am fairly good at fixing computer problems, but this has me stumped? This is what I have done so far:

1. Took off the battery and held down the power button for 2min, then plugged the power back in without the battery and nothing happened. tried this also with holding down the F8 and also again holding down the f10 button. Nothing.

2. I thought it was the hard drive , so I had bought a new one and put it in and hit F10 and my computer started to boot up! So I decided to put my old hard drive back in and by chance it came on and started to boot up also. I was very happy and I used the computer for 1 day with my power cord plugged in, but when I unplugged it and went to plug it back in later and use it again it was back to the dreaded Black screen!

3. As suggested, I took my computer back apart and pulled out the both RAM memory cards and cleaned them and tried switching them in each others slot as suggested and re-booted the computer multiple times, but to no avail. Still nothing?

4. Another thing I notice: My battery had gone bad a year ago and I bought another one and had been using it fine, but it does get much much hotter than my old one as it runs. So I don't know if it is shutting down over that or not? I put it in the freezer for 15min as suggested by others and tryed turning it on again, but still nothing!

ANY SUGGESTIONS??? IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Usually computers shut off to prevent damage from overheating. i would check to see if the fans are even working or it could be that the motherboard has gone bad.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire Timeline X 5820TG, with the black screen of death. This happened a few starts after cleaning some virus with MS defender.
I have read that it is most likely a corrupted bios. I have also since ruled out the screen and the cmos battery and clearing the static without the battery.
Apparently after downloading the latest bios upgrade file (ZQ1_122W.executive) Acer support onto a flash drive, I used FN + Esc then the Power button to install the above bios file.
After this failed, I added a notepad with Autorun in brackets and then ( open = the bios e x e )file , as well and saved it as an I N F file, along with the executive bios file and retried. (This is the absolute extent of my coding knowledge).
But so far I have been unsuccessful.
I suspect I am trying to install the wrong bios file, and also installing it the wrong way as well.
The computer shops are just keen to sell me a new expensive replacement laptop, and so not much help there either.
Please, if anyone can help me I would be so appreciative and thankful.

A:Acer Aspire Black screen. Help with bios flash please

I doubt if this is a BIOS issue but it's possible the computer was bricked after a bad flash that you said failed.

What happens when you tap F8 at boot? Do you get the Advanced Boot Options. I am assuming this is Windows 7. You cannot access Safe Mode with Windows 8 or 10 using F8.

Do you need any data on the hard drive? If not, would you be willing to do a factory reset? If you do need the data would you be willing to do a factory reset after recovering the data?

What was the OS that came with this computer?  Was it upgraded to Windows 10?

Do you have another computer you can burn an iso file to CD? I am hoping you can boot a CD or USB flash drive on this computer.

The fact that you were able to boot normally after F2 into the bios menu, F9 to re-set the bios to factory default, then F10 to save this default bios setting, ***strongly*** suggests that the bios was losing it's memory of the specific hard drive that was installed.    Jack E/NJ

Hi everyone,I recently wanted to re-setup my Acer Aspire 7250g with Linux Mint. I tried to find a masterpassword, but there was no errorcode shown. I tried some other things, but they didnt work as well. At last i took out the CMOS battery, I restarted the pc after i put the battery back in and all I got was a black screen.I tried to flash the BIOS, because I read that the BIOS might be corrupted. I followed the instructions of this thread; http://community.acer.com/t5/2014-Archives/Re-flash-a-corrupt-BIOS-for-an-Acer-Aspire-7250/td-p/9376... . Hello all, hope I can get some help here.

Replaced screen on an acer aspire one happy (aohappy pav70), after which the netbook fails to boot at all.
After much research online this appears to be a common problem with acer aspire one's, resulting in a need to flash the bios to be able to boot again.
There are many tutorials for accessing the bootblock to run a crisis disk across the system but not for this specific model. Most include downloading the bios from acer, copying the .fd files and flashi.exe files to a flash drive, then using the Fn and Esc button whilst turning the system on to start the crisis procedure for flashing the bios. This does not appear to work on this model so am looking for some help.

Hi
So I own an Acer 7741G laptop and at a certain point, while shutting down, I had to shut it down using the power button because it was stuck somewhere.
- At first I could only use it in safe mode. When I tried normal mode it just stopped and went back to the startup screen (the one in which you choose the start up mode (normal, safe, safe with network etc...)).
- After that the laptop screen went black and I could only work with an external monitor from that point (coincidence? i don't know). Still the same thing: only in safe mode.
- While doing stuff in safe mode I suddenly only saw snow so I had to shut it down with the power button again.

Now I can only power my laptop on (all lights are burning correctly) but black laptop screen, black external monitor + the fact that it still only works in safe mode)

Any advice would come in handy considering these multiple problems
I never had problems with this laptop uptil now (own it for 2-3 years)
big thanks in advance

So I'm running an Acer Aspire 7551-7442 with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. The processor is an AMD .2 GHz Phenom II X4 Quad-Core N970 and the GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 4250. I've had this computer since 2011 now and minus a few hiccups it's run beautifully. Lately I've been having a problem where horizontal black and white lines would cover the screen which I assumed was from overheating so I would let it sit and after a while it would start working normally again. The most recent time it happened no image showed up. No Bios menu, no safe mode option, no Windows logo. But if I let it sit I can hear the start up noise for the login screen, along with the welcome noise if I press enter and login from memory. Anyone have experience with this sort of problem? Is there anything I can do?

A:Not your typical Acer aspire 7551-7442 Black Screen

It's a notebook with the video chip embedded in the motherboard. What you describe sounds like the video chip is going.
That's the one bad thing about laptops; if the video chip dies, you have no display and hence no computer.

If the video chip dies, you can replace the motherboard but in a laptop from 2011, it probably would not be worth spending the money.

In the meantime try to keep the laptop as cool as possible. Heat is a killer.

Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition. This past weekend, I tried to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. After replacing the old RAM sticks with the new, I am getting nothing but a black screen after turning on my laptop. The mouse and keyboard I usually keep plugged in the USB ports do not work. There is no sound, nor does any monitor that I've tried hooking up to my Acer display anything as well. I've tried every key combination I could come in mind with, but nothing works. I can't access the BIOS, nor anything else. The HDD indicator light flashes green for only a few seconds after powering up the laptop. I'm not for certain if the laptop keyboard is functioning either. I'm unable to turn the NUM LOCK on or off. The CD/DVD drive runs normally, I assume. I'm able to pop in a disc and can hear it running normally. I've also tried placing the old RAM I had previously used back in the laptop, but there is still no change.
I've run out of options and am curious if anyone here would be able to assist me. Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

A:Acer Aspire 5100 laptop black screen after upgrading to 4GB RAM

If adding the old RAM doesn't change the way it behaves there is another issue.

When you added the RAM, did it involve stripping the laptop down? Or simply removing a cover on the underside of the laptop?

If it involved a strip down, it sounds to me like the video connector has been disturbed, or not been reconnected, hence you cannot see anything as the display is not powering up.

Obviously if you didn't strip it down there is another issue.

Hi all

My mother in law has an acer aspire 5732Z, yesterday she was fiddling with the touch pad sensitivity and suddenly her screen went black. Each time she tries restarting, she gets the windows 7 startup screen, but just before getting to the log in screen, the screen goes black. The mouse pointer is still on the screen and she can hear that the computer is still on. But besides that, nothing can make it start up properly.

I have tried talking her through safe mode startup, but that didn't do anything. She has pulled out the battery and restarted, which does nothing either. What else can we try? This is less than 1 year old.

Thanks for any help

Hello,

I am working on an Acer laptop that boots normally except for the screen going blank after the windows loading logo in Windows 7. It does the same when booting to a Windows install disc. It gets past the initial screen when copying files and then goes blank. When connected to a second monitor, the monitor shows "video out of range". I tried booting to safe mode and vga mode with no luck on both monitors. The system loads into windows desktop as I can hear the Windows sounds and I can power down using the start menu blindly. The display works fine in the system BIOS and during the initial boot from disc or hard drive. I am thinking the internal video card is bad but want to explore other options before giving up.

So far I have:
Tested all hardware
Reset BIOS to defaults
Booted to VGA mode and safe mode
Tried Last Known Good Configuration
Cloned a drive from another machine with a good OS
Tried both the original Windows Vista OS and a new copy of Windows 7 from both CD and hard drive

Please help me get this stubborn laptop to output video normally!

Hello. My acer aspire 5515 has the black screen of death. It happened after using the erecovery. Anyway, I've been trying to find specific instructions for my model to flash the bios using a USB. The only tutorials that I've found are mostly for acer aspire one notebooks. I have another laptop that I've been using to download the bios from the acer website...I tried to flash using the instructions from the manual for my 5515 but it's apparent that I'm doing something wrong since my notebook never boots and still has a black screen. Here are the instructions for my notebook:

Steps for BIOS Recovery from USB Storage: Before doing this, prepare the Crisis USB key. The Crisis USB key could be made by executing the Crisis Disk program in another system with Windows XP OS. Follow the steps below: 1.Save ROM file (file name: JAL90x64.fd) to the root directory of USB storage. 2.Plug USB storage into USB port. 3.Press Fn + ESC button then plug in AC. The Power button flashes once. 4.Press Power button to initiate system CRISIS mode. When CRISIS is complete, the system auto restarts with a workable BIOS. 5.Update the latest version BIOS for this machine by regular BIOS flashing process.
Also, I'm confused about how to make my USB(4gb) bootable...is there anything 'special' that i have to do to it first? Do I need to rename the ROM file or keep it as is? Which bios files do I need to copy to my USB? Is there some sort of download such as '... Read more

Laptop Model: Acer Aspire 4745G
Graphic Card Model: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512MB
OS: Windows 7 64 bits

Problem:
Laptop starting to turn to blackscreen constantly since last week. At the beginning it still manage to back to normal after restart. But then after few days it turn to black screen during every startup whenever it progress until window start-up animation, I can even still hear the welcome sound although the screen is black. I can still using the laptop through safe mode. After that I google for some related solution and found that it's probably the graphic card (display adapter) problem. So I disable the graphic card (Radeon HD 5470) option under display adapter and it goes perfectly well. But when I enable the graphic card option under display adapter in normal mode, my laptop screen will turns black again (back to previous problem).

I tried to uninstall the graphic card under display adapter and reinstall the graphic card driver (download from Acer Support) but the problem still appears. The graphic card driver after reinstall is appears to be ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 series instead of previously ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

Is it normal or I download the wrong driver although it's from Acer Support? What should I do to solve this blackscreen problem?

As you have mentioned that there is no issue with your power supply and your battery is also charging, there is a probability that your battery backup has gone down. To check if this is the case, you are advised to generate a battery report by following the guidelines mentioned on the link below and see if that helps:http://www.howtogeek.com/217010/how-to-generate-a-battery-health-report-on-windows-8-or-windows-10/ If you are not able to find anything substantial from the report indicating that there is some issue with the battery, you can consider using another working battery (if feasible) and see if the issue occurs with another battery as well. Malware and virus infections can also cause Windows to shut down abruptly. To check and remove the infection, you can scan your system using the security software (if any) installed on your system. In addition to this, you can also follow the guidelines mentioned on the link below to detect and remove infection:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/does-computer-have-virus#1TC=windows-7http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/how-find-remove-virushttps://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/ If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact nearest Acer service center by using the link below to check if there is any hardware issue:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

Hi, I am having a mojor headache with a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120. The screen has started switching to blackout at random times and is happening more and more. It doesn't matter whether W
Jayindows has loaded or if I enter the bios,or boot from CD,or leave it sat waiting for me to select a boot device. It more often than not goes black but you can still see what should be on the screen, it's just not lit at all to see clearly. The laptop itself is still working fine as it works on an external monitor and makes system beeps, cd spins up etc.
Have tried the following:
Adjusting various settings in the graphics properties and within the bios but makes no difference.
It also switches back on if I press FN + F5 to swap monitors but goes off again after a few seconds.
It's not overheating as it's been stood all night and still happens sometime during boot when stone cold.
I've tried booting with / without the battery - no difference.
I've tried booting without the HDD - no difference.
I've tried removing the battery, pressing power for 60 seconds, then add battery, power and boot up again - no difference.
I would have sworn it was the inverter but it does the same thing with an inverter I know works! don't think it can be graphics as it works on an external monitor and doesn't go off.
I'm out of ideas and seeking a genius to sort this for me please!!!

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742, IntelCore i3-380M
I am attaching a few pictures of what comes on the screen when I turn it on.
Even in safe mode it does not let me log in, it attempts repairs, it fails and then goes to the black screen with the white cursor.
If I try to start windows normally it loads the logo and then goes to the black screen.
Yesterday, in an attempt to do repairs it was replacing invalid security drivers or something like that and it was taking ages so I had to turn it off.
For the last week it took very long to start up, failing to configure windows but it would eventually let me log in.
Since yesterday I am only getting the black screen. it is windows 7 by the way.

i need a very quick reply please

Umm ok, hoping this is the right spot.

So... hello... and thanks to all of you lovely computery people out there for even reading about my problem.

So today i was watching a video online, and the screen just went black, but the sound of the video was still playing normally. I turned off the computer (didn't know how else to stop it). Anyways, upon restarting, the screen is visible for about one second and then goes black. The right side of the screen is brighter than the left if that means anything to anyone. I can tell by the sounds that it restarts normally except for the screen which remains black.

When i put the laptop to sleep and reopen it the screen is visible for again 1 second or so, and then goes dark. That screen is the log in screen so i know the rest of the computer works fine up to that point.

If I shine a flashlight at the screen i can see the screen, but barely.

Computer details for anyone interested.
Toshiba Satellite A200
Windows Vista
4 years old
(not sure what else you would need to know)

Ok, so a couple questions from all that.

1) Can anybody tell what's wrong with it?

2) If i hook it up to another monitor of some sort, can i bypass the screen issue?

3) Assuming whatever is wrong with the screen is fixable, is it better/cheaper just to buy a new computer instead?

Well that's all i can think of. Please try and help me out if you can, i would really appreciate it.
Thank you all, hope to hear from you,
Indebted as always,

A:Solved: Screen went black but computer still runs fine

Sounds like it could be the Inverter/ backlight

Yes you can hook an external monitor and use it that way.

If it is the inverter/backlight....not too expensive and fairly easy to install

Hi there,

My wife has Lenovo G560 laptop (16 months old), and just recently it's started doing a few things it shouldn't.

When powering up she'll press the 'power' button, and it'll come up with either a totally black screen, or the opening 'Lenovo' splash screen (where it's loading stuff, I guess) before either staying there locked up or going black. Restarting is the only way to get things up and running - and then it always takes at least 1 re-boot every time - often 2 or 3 reboots.

It's steadliy become more frequent, to the stage it's at now where it happens every time.

I had suspicions that a recent install of Photoshop might've been the culprit, but uninstalling it has made no difference. A Malwarebytes scan resulted in some viruses, which have been removed by the program, and scans now come up clean. Seems System Restore was turned off (It's on now)

Any suggestions much appreciated,

I'll try and be brief. My video card is a NVIDIA P162 GEFORCE MX440 VIDEO CARD AGP

In the past, I have used the S-video port (with RCA adapter) in a dual view setup with my TV. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and now I can't get the secondary display (the TV) to work correctly. I just get a bunch of black & white lines moving up the screen (looks like bad reception/static on a TV).

The weird thing is that the TV displays everything fine during the bootup process, including the loading screen with the Windows XP logo. Full color and everything. It's when Windows actually starts that the TV freaks out.

Another weird thing is if I use nVidia's TV setup Wizard and select "Span," the image on the TV actually stabilizes. But I am forced to keep a low resolution on the monitor (which wasn't the case before I reinstalled XP), and as soon as I make any other changes the TV goes back to freaking out.

I really want to use "Dual View" mode and I know it's possible with what I have, since it worked fine before. Any ideas??

About a month ago I was having troubles with my laptop where the battery percentage would always say 0% or 1% or just die right after I unplug my laptop. I was told that it wasn't my battery, just needed to update my bios. SOOOOO one day I finally decided to update my bios and made the worst mistake possible. I was running the update when I thought my laptop had frozen and I pretty much panic'd and forced my laptop to shut off. I did read on the update when I launched "do not shut off computer" and that's exactly what I did, it was an automatic reaction simply because I did not know the update started the moment I opened the .exe file since it didn't say that in the "readme.txt" file. SO of course, now my laptop is gone, black screen when I cut it on.

I've read tutorials all online about this issue with an acer aspire one netbook on how to fix this but the tutorial seems to be for that ONE SPECIFIC NETBOOK, which is the acer aspire one aa1. I tried following that tutorial with the bios files from the acer website for my laptop but they don't have the files for my netbook that the tutorial goes off of.

I came here for help to see if anyone could help me because I pretty much figured since it's an problem that was fixable on that model, there has to be some sort of way I can fix this with my laptop

Like the title, it's an Acer Aspire One ZA3 (AO751h) and has Windows Vista 32 Bit.

Hi guys,

I've got my uncle's Acer Aspire 5536 that I am having some trouble with. He said that the laptop just decided not to work.

When I press the power button absolutely nothing happens.
When I plug my charger in, the power button lights up blue and so does the battery light (Orange when was charging, now blue).

There is still nothing happening when I press the power button though.

I've tried taking the battery and charger out and holding the power button for a few minutes then connect the charger, to no avail!

I popped the casing above the keyboard off to make sure that the power button wasn't just stuck. All seems fine.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Hi,
I'm going to be very quick and blunt. Mainly because I'm annoyed.
There was a power outage last night.
My laptop had been plugged in, but plugged into a almost industrial surge protector.
A while later I remembered to check on my laptop.
It had frozen solid, and would not shut down, even by holding down the power button.
For some reason, the laptop did not go into autohibernation upon low battery.
Now, when I tried to turn the laptop on, the computer clicks in, as it usually does.
However, the screen appears to be off completely even after I power on the computer.

Can anyone help?

Good Morning everyone,

I have posted on this site a few times, with great success from the responses I receive. Thanks in advance for your help.

My computer is two years old, and when I purchased it, I added an SSD, and an ASUS U3S6, wiped the factory HD, and did a clean install of the OS on the SSD. About two months afterwards, with no other hardware installs, I started receiving random BlackSOD's saying:

Status : 0xc000000e

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessable.

This occurs up to today, but happens roughly once every two weeks or so. Each time I simply let the computer restart, and everything is fine.

As for the true BSOD's, those occur on roughly the same schedule, but not at the same time. I have also noticed after my computer 'awakes' it sometimes locks up, and I'm forced to hard boot. Selecting 'restart' puts the machine in limbo for almost an hour before it does so. The start menu is also back to an original state, meaning the icons are not the ones I configured, or are not there at all.

I've been patient with these problems, and don't feel as though I've done any damage to my machine,....everything works fine after an event, and I am not able to notice any performance differences. No data has been lost, either.

I'm here today to get some insight about my issue, and hope some of you can interpret my attached ZIP file...it's Russian to me....

Thanks again.

A:Blue and Black SOD's frequently,...but comp works fine afterwards.

I know it's possible that the speaker itself is just blown, but is there any way that it could be a software/driver issue? Supposedly this laptop uses AC97 drivers from Realtek. I have attempted to install Acer's audio drivers from their website for the 5000 series (they didn't have one specifically for the 5003wlmi) and I've also downloaded generic drivers directly from Realktek. No luck.

Any ideas?

Friend bought an Acer laptop E5-575-54SM Intel i5-6200U; Windows 10 Home; 4GB RAM; 1TB; WiFi featuring MU-MIMO.

When I connected it to his WiFi network it was very slow. I ran a speedtest. It only gets 1 Mbps where it should be 20 Mbps.

I connected my iPhone to the network but got the same results. So, I assumed it was a problem with the WiFi. However, a different laptop (Toshiba) does get the 20 Mbps speed via WiFi.

Well, that is just not possible.
Since my iPhone was also slow, I know the problem is with the network.
But, since the old Toshiba laptop connects fine, the DSL modem and WiFi router are okay.

Two days later, the new Acer was running fine on the network, only to come to a crawl today.

I am stumped.

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

Thanks

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

I built a custom pc recently and I decided to get Windows 8.1 because it was actually cheaper than Windows 7 ($110 vs $159). I built the pc and installed Windows 8.1 no problem. Rebooted after install no problem. Updated my graphics card drivers (tried playing minecraft and it said I needed to) and rebooted, no problem. Then, the next day when I turned it on, it booted onto the start screen, before the login, I clicked to continue to login and it went black. Everything but the mouse. It would flash on and off every little while. I could move the mouse off the screen to the right and bottom, but not the top and left. I rebooted, same thing. One more reboot, and the splash screen is different . It says "Please Wait" on top of the loading circle thing. It says Recovery. I click advanced settings and continue to windows 8.1. It reboots and works fine. Until next time I turn it off and back on.

I've googled it and came up with people who got this after upgrading from windows 8. And they haven't been able to get in at all. I'm not too worried as it works, although I would like it to work as it should.

These are my specs, if needed:

AMD FX-6300 6-Core 3.5 GHz
ASRock 980DE3/U3S3
2x4GB G-Skill Ares DDR-3 1600mhz
Gigabyte Geforce 650 Ti
Windows 8.1 64-bit (obviously)

not sure what else is needed

Good day Sirs,
I recently updated an ACER aspire 1800 BIOS (used the 1.17 update). The update was carried out from within Windows XP and after it completed the system was rebooted.
The system started with thick white vertical bars and black horizontal bars making it difficult to read or see what's on the screen properly.
From my search on the Net, it seems I should have used the 2.7 BIOS update instead.
Someone (spock028) managed to update his BIOS with the correct version despite not being able to see what's on the screen.
http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/603868-acer-aspire-1800-a.html

I have created the Phoenix Crises Recovery disk (using a 80GB USB HDD, I created a 4GB partition, set it active and used this partition). I renamed the BIOS file to BIOS.WPH.
I managed to enable the option F12 (select boot device)

Unfortunately, since after I press F12 during boot and the boot option screen comes up, I can't see the options because the screen is garbled, I find it difficult to boot from the USB HDD)
I also tried the auto-option (pressing Fn+Esx, Fn+B, Winkey+B) during boot but that didn't work.

I am assuming the USB HDD is on the list that pops up.
I have tried an external monitor and the display is garbled as well.

Please can someone kindly give me the exact set of keys to press after pressing F12 when the boot option screen comes up to select the option to boot from the USB HDD?)

I have included an autoexec.bat file on the HDD that should run the f... Read more
