HDMI to HDMI, Great Picture, no sound. Need Help.

Q: HDMI to HDMI, Great Picture, no sound. Need Help.

Hey, I've been looking for help for this for 2 days straight and still haven't found any help.

Basicly about 3 or 4 weeks ago, my motherboard or graphics card went, i had the computer repaired and it arrived a few days ago.

I've plugged it all in but i can't get any sound.
I've changed my Bios, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, did some roll backs, plugged in the S/pdif cable altered my properties and still no luck.

Can anyone help me?

The screen shot below is of what my Playback Devices panel looks like when iTunes is on.
I'll give any information i can.

Ever since I had to undo an update made by PowerSuite, I have not been able to get any sound out of my TV connected to my notebook PC. TV Video is fine & the Notebook sound & video is fine too. I do not recall what update Power Suite installed. The TV plays DVDs from my DVD player fine - both sound & video.
I downloaded a driver update from PowerSuite and I found that it had installed Conexant High Def Audio (8.54.37.0). Unfortunately, still no sound from the TV - same as before.
I have read a few blogs and all mention an entry for HDMI in the "Manage Audio Devices" in the Sound->Playback window. I have no such entry - the only one I have is for the Conexant driver.
I Googled Realtek (I have their driver on my desktop PC) but when I went to download the driver, I got a "warning, dangerous website" kind of message so I did not go any further.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get sound back on my notebook?

Had to replace motherboard from authorized acer parts dealer now I get no sound through HDMI port. I did through the original board until it got fried by electrical surge. Can any one help or send me a picture of the inside the same model to make sure all jumpers on the motherboard are in the right spot. Or if any one else had this problem tell me how you fix it. It does not have HDMI sound icon in the mixer. What I have done:
1. I have looked for disabled devices.
2. Tried looking in sound mixer settings for the default audio.
3. New install and drivers.
4. Tried a system utility software RegInOut. Looking for serious replies on fix even if it was not an Acer.

One thing you could try is to open up the Control panel then click on Sound and then go to the Playback tab and see if there is anything in there to enable it that's what I had to do on my laptop.

Hi,

I have a Acer aspire 5536 laptop with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card which i connect to my Pansonic TX-L37G20B LCD Tv via the HDMI output on a regular basis to watch films etc. I have had no problems with the connection since the day i bought the TV and have been happlily using it for the last 2 years.

A couple of days ago i connected the laptop to TV as usual and changed to the correct HDMI channel and got nothing. I disconnecetd the lead and reconnected but still no picture or sound on the TV. I tested the HDMI cable and Tv input by connecting the lead to my XBOX and it worked perfectly.

When i connect the lead to the laptop the screen goes blank for a second and i hear the connection sound as normal however no picture on the TV.

I have checked the display settings and the TV is listed under monitors. I have tried all settings eg extend display, duplicate etc.. and it appears to work correctly but i cannot get a picture or sound on the TV. I did think maybe this problem was due to a recent windows update so i have run a system restore to a previous time when this worked, but no joy. I have also unistalled the old graphics card drivers and installed the new ones from the AMD web site and again nothing.

Can anyone offer any help or suggestions of what else i can try or do ? I am running out of ideas.

Many thanks for your help.

A:HDMI to TV connection - Loss of picture and sound

I've read on a few sites of these issues being fixed by enabling the HDMI Audio Output in the Control Panel audio settings. Another thing you can try is cloning the display using the function (FN) keys on your laptop. One more thing to check is power settings, GPU may be disabling HDMI out to save power.

I'm on a HP pavilion that came prepackaged with vista, but reloaded with windows XP, if that helps at all.

Now I've been trying to google this problem. And everyone says go to my sound settings in control panel and change my audio playback to HDMI.

The problem is that option never shows up. It's just my laptop speakers and that is it. Everyone else can seem to fix this problem by doing that. But not me :/

A:Sound doesn't work on TV using HDMI out. Picture is fine.

What is the video port on the computer end? is it DVI or HDMI? If the laptop port (not the TV) is a DVI connector and you are using an adapter to adapt it to HDMI, DVI does not carry sound. You can connect the audio using a cable from the Head Phone jack to RCA. to plug into your TV or stereo.

A:Sound not working, Only have HDMI Sound Output, But no HDMI port in PC

the HDMI sound is most likely off your GPU but that series seems to not have a HDMI port so that is odd. If you can make sure your onboard audio is on in your BIOS and also run the tool on this page so that you can update all your system info for us. System Info - See Your System Specs

I am considering buying an HDMI splitter to get around a problem I now have when streaming music only from the Internet. Currently I have about a 15 ft. cable running from the HDMI output on my computer to my Samsung TV. With this setup everything works fine. I can watch Youtube videos or Netflix movies. The thing that I don't like is that if I want to just stream music for several hours, I have to leave the TV on since the audio connection from the TV to my receiver is not a pass thru. It is only live when the TV is on. I am wondering if I can use an HDMI splitter to solve this problem. What I plan to do is to connect the computer HDMI output to the input on the splitter. Then use one of the splitter's outputs to go to the Samsung TV and the other one to go to my receiver via an HDMI-to-2 Channel Stereo Y-adapter. Just wondering if the connection to the non-HDMI device via the Y-adapter will upset the functioning of the splitter. What about the the EDID handshaking and HDCP signal that HDMI sources and displays need in order to function?

Trying to get the Westinghouse operable:

1. I tried a DVI to HDMI cable from Fry's. It provided video at 1368x768 but the text & numbers output were barely legible. As directed by the Westinghouse Manual when using DVI to HDMI, I hooked up L/R audio and it worked okay. (I brought it back to Fry's).

2. Next I bought a 10ft DVI to HDMI cable at monoprice.com, hoping for a clearer text output. I got no video at all (monitor says "no signal detected"). I called monoprice and they suggested I buy a Converter, as some of the old HDMI's don't work with DVI.

A:DVI-D to HDMI (probably 1st gen) - no picture

There should be little to no difference between the two PC outputs (DVI or HDMI). Especially as they will be connected to the SAME input on the TV. Both are digital. The only difference is the fact that HDMI also carries audio.

Two thoughts. First, try a different cable. There can be a big difference between cable types and brands. Second, experiment with the resolution. While using the native resolution is the recommended option, sometimes using a higher resolution will help.

Also note that it won't be as clear and useable as a standard monitor.

But since the format the picture through the middle of the screen has been having a blurry line going through it, it's really bugging me now haha..

Could I missing a driver or something after the format? If so, how can I find out what?
Or some thing else...

Answer Match 81.48%

I just bought a new LG 23" monitor/TV (M237WD) to hook up to my laptop. The monitor has both DVI and HDMI inputs, and my laptop has just an HDMI out. When I hook up my laptop to the monitor with cable 1 (HDMI [out]-DVI [in]), everything looks great. However, when I use cable 2(HDMI [out]-HDMI [in]), the colors are a bit off and the desktop text looks fuzzy. Also, the signal with DVI lists (on the LG monitor screen) as [email protected], whereas the signal with HDMI lists as 1080i (not p). I have tried swapping out the HDMI-HDMI cable, so it's not that. I also had the same thing happen when hooking the monitor up to another computer's HDMI out port.

I've tried using Just Scan; it fixed the scaling but not the picture quality. I've also tried renaming the HDMI port to "PC," but that also did nothing. Should there be a difference between HDMI and DVI picture rendering?

(I need to use HDMI because that's the only input that's HDCP compatible.)

Thanks!

A:HDMI picture looks like crap

Well, FWIW 1080 i is interlaced and 1080 p is progressive scan, differences being explained more exhaustively here

seems that the LG is interpreting the PC input via HDMI as a HD image as from DVD player, Blu Ray etc. The DVI appears to be interpreted (correctly) as a PC image input.

That's my guess.

The features for your LG show that it has 3 picture modes to choose from. Have you tried changing the mode, or is that just for Video image (like "cool, warm, personal etc.")?

Hi, I hope someone can help. I bought 2 HDMI cables for my PC and my wifes PC but on fitting them both pictures now have a washed-out quality and the resolution looks blurry. Both Graphics cards can support HD (GTS250 and ATI 4890HD) and both monitors are HD compatible. We have the latest drivers for both cards and monitors. Changing the colour & video settings don't make much improvement. Cards utilities and windows confirm the res is still 1920*1080. I've also 'lost' about 20cms in width and length around the border of my screen. When I move back to D-sub I get the full screen again. My wife has moved back to her DVI cable until we can get this sorted.

Browsing on the net for 'washed-out HDMI' shows that others suffer from the same issue but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. I wanted HDMI for the digital sound/1-cable solution but the picture quality loss is too hard to bear so far. I'd be gratefull of any help or ideas.

Thanks.

A:Washed-out HDMI picture

Sometimes the quality of the HDMI Cable can make the difference. I bought one of these for connection between my PC and my LCD TV and the picture quality is great. It also works wonderfully on my 22.5" LCD monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816003 You can get a shorter Cable from the same manufacturer from New Egg as well.

My newest task is centered around an HP Pavilion 15-p033ca laptop with a broken screen. Replacing the screen is actually super simple but my issue lies elsewhere.

Normally I would hook the laptop up to a monitor via VGA cable. This newer laptop only has an HDMI hook-up, so I hooked it up to my TV with that cable. The HP logo upon start up is semi-visible as the picture is distorted. So, before I spend money and order the screen my question is...

Does an HDMI relay the Broken screens picture to the TV and that's why is messed up? or should the TV picture still be clear? Like when a broken screen laptop is hooked to an external monitor with a VGA and the external monitor works fine.

I'm worried there may be an internal GPU or Mobo issue aside from the screen being broke.... Finally is there a better way I can test this instead?

Thanks for any info or Ideas in advance!

A:Can I use my motherboard HDMI port as well as my graphics card HDMI?

I've seen a number of computers where the addition of an Add-in Video card automatically disabled the onboard adapter. The only thing that worked to restore the onboard adapter was to remove that Add-in card. You may want to consider getting a different Add-in card that has 2 HDMI ports. Or if your motherboard has 2 PCIe X16 slots get a 2nd matching card.

I'm trying to hook up my TV with my computer, and for the most part it's working. The video goes through and I get how to control it and everything. The only thing not working is the sound.

I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.

So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I have no idea what's relevant, so I don't know what to post screenshots of, but I've read tons of other threads with the same issues but none of their solutions seem to work for me.

A:Realtek HDMI Output ATI HDMI Audio -Not Plugged In-

Info on your computer would help. We can only talk in generalites or suggestions without it. In most cases, if you have a full HDMI port with both audio and video, when you plug in an HDMI cable Windows changes the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (your PC sound card) to "HDMI".

In your case the ATI (now called AMD) should be the device that is feeding the video and audio.

As your PC is only 1 month old, the PC vendor's tech support should be the ones to call since you haven't been able to find a solution to date.

Hi there

I actually LIKE the SKY Q package -- also now 4K UHD available - and it's cheaper than the SKY HD + if you are selective in what you choose (apart from the up front cost).

BUT

1) only 1 HDMI output at back of box so get HDMI splitter -- works fine and bypasses any HDMI restriction on copying etc.

2) if you want to RECORD to DVD recorder -- then there's no SCART or A/V outputs - so just get HDMI-->SCART converter --works fine. !!!

Note most DVD recorders still record at 576p - no probs really for older stuff and you can connect the output from the HDMI splitter into the converter for your DVD recorder.

I still use DVD recording sometimes to make physical DVD recordings of stuff I can't get elsewhere -- and then on the computer use MAKEMKV to convert the DVD recording to an MKV file for playing via streaming services such as PLEX.

SKY says this can't be done - but the Chinese 2 way HDMI splitter (use cheap powered version --the expensive ones retain HDMI protection !!!) works fine -- Max output though is 1080p.

iSolem 1x2 3D HDMI Switch Box - Splits HDMI Signals: Amazon.co.uk: Camera Photo

HDMI to SCART Composite Video Converter Stereo Audio: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Make sure though you use POWERED HDMI splitter --then no degradtion of signal.

I'm looking now at what to do for 4K UHD as well but AFAIK there's no way of recording yet a 4K UHD signal so I'll have to wait for somebody to come up with a way of ripping a live TV 4... Read more

Hiya people I am having a problem with my TV or it could be my graphics card anyway I have the Nvidia gforce 9500 GT connected to my 32" LCD tv via DVI to HDMI but when I have it connected via HDMI port 1 on my TV the picture becomes blurry and I have scaling problems but I can fix the scaling problems. Anyway once I sort out the scaling problem the picture looks blurry and it looks like the brightness is set too high I have tried changing it in the nvidia control pannel and the same with my tv but it still stays the same.

Anyways when i connect it via HDMI port 2 on my TV the picture runs perfect the brightness is fine as well as the scaling and also the picture looks alot more vibrant and does not have the grayish look and I dont have to mess about with any of the settings. and when I have my Xbox 360 or my ps3 on this port the picture looks hell of alot better as the picture looks more vibrant and the black seems to be better on this port too

anyways anyone know if there is a fix for this!? if so HELP!

Hello quick question so i'm clear and to see what you would suggest.

I have a new upgrade LG 55 inch 4k TV connected to my PC via HDMI to GTX970 I've read this TV supports audio also via the same HDMI cable plugged in to my video card. I'm a huge gamer.

Right now I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to a 4.1 Logitech setup w/sub. I've been using this for years and it works great for surround sound when available and EAX is always a plus SO whats my benefit to 86 the 4.1 and just go HDMI?

In that case I lose the 4 speaker setup correct and just use audio from the TV?? I can't see the advantage for this unless i'm missing something big. I don't use SPDIF output or the Dolby digital or DTS encoder from the card I assume all that you need a receiver.

Can I use HDMI output for audio and STILL use my 4.1 speakers? I don't want to invest in a receiver or anything like that at this point. What would you do if you were me? i'm at work now but I read if I go into the sound properties/playback devices I can choose HDMI output? I'm curious to see how that works.

thx!

A:HDMI cable for audio or keep my 4.1 w/soundcard? need help w/HDMI

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. e.g. HDMI or Speakers (your sound card). HDMI audio is generated on a sound chip in the Video card. You don't have all the options you do with a Sound card.

Everything works fine; the PC detects TV and both audio and video travel through the HDMI cable from PC to TV

The problem happens when I turn the TV OFF and ON. In this case, the video is back but not the audio. This can be seen in the "playback audio devices" in "control panel", the icon that represennts the sansung speakers via HDMI dissapears.
Any idea of what to do? I got the latest video driver, which also deals with HDMI audio but no luck at all...

thanks

A:HDMI audio problem when connecting LCD TV to PC via HDMI

This is more of a HDMI handshaking issue than a Windows or driver issue, and a very common occurrence. Sadly if you do a Google search using "hdmi handshake no audio" for the search terms, you'll get lots of results but very little in the way of how to solve. About the best solution I came across is this one,

*Official* Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 thread - Page 271 - AVS Forum

A lot of that thread deals with the Asus Xonar sound cards, but there is also quite a bit about the no audio in general.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

A:dell xps 13 9450 (2015 new version) does not output HDMI to tv or monitor via special dell DA200 Hdmi adaptor

Oops I see my first post got sent, even if the website failed...
Anyay.. I talked to Dell Support and they told me to update the firmware for:
Intel (R) Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update
(version 02.05.04,A00)
downloaded forn Dell.com/support
Enter your service tag and you will find it under Chipset on the driver download page.
That fixed it for me!
It was a known issue for the guy i talked to.

I have just purchased two new monitors that have two hdmi and a vga input but my graphics card has dvi, hdmi and display port so I have one monitor running Strait hdmi and the other one running dvi converted to hdmi but that one I'd very blurb and slightly stretched. So I was wondering if it would be better to run displayport and convert it to hdmi or get a new graphics card.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to connect my Toshiba laptop with an HDMI Output to my Phillips 42PFL9532/98 using ATi Catalyst Control Center and I am trying to clone the laptop monitor to be the same on the TV but it comes up on the TV Unsupported Video Format and when I make it a 2nd monitor it works fine.

It would be great if someone could help me out to get it working.

Thanks Sam

Brand new Windows 7 Home Premium (6 bit) computer. When I click on the Sound control panel item, sometimes it takes 1-2 minutes to open. But that's kind of minor (although I'd like to know how to fix it), because sometimes the HDMI sound to my HDTV works fine, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. The only sure fix is to reboot the computer, which isn't really what I want to do every time I want sound coming from the HDTV speakers.

More details: if I reboot the computer, and then switch from the monitor to the HDTV for my video output, I can open the Sound control panel (opens at normal speed) and then I select the HDTV to be the default sound device; and everything is good. At some point, I stop watching the HDMI output to the HDTV, switch the video to my main monitor, and the sound now comes out of the computer speakers. Great. That's what I want. I can even turn off the HDTV, come back 20 minutes later, switch the video back to the HDTV and the sound goes through the HDTV speakers. Switch back and forth a couple of times and everything works as expected. Great. That's what I want.

But at some later point in time, it stops working, and I don't know what triggers this. At this later point in time, I switch the video from the monitor to the HDTV, but now the sound remains with the computer speakers, if I try to open the sound control panel, it takes 1-2 minutes, and when it finally opens the sound control panel no longer lets me select the HDTV to be the default soun... A:Sound Control panel takes 2 minutes to open; HDMI sound inconsistent

I had the slow opening sound panel/playback section for a while. I tried several things and all of a sudden the problem went away. Not sure what fixed it but I have updated the AMD video card drivers several times, no audio driver updates. The only common point is that I too have an AMD video card (HD7770).

In most cases, if the PC "speakers" (sound card) is set as the default audio playback device and then an HDMI cable is plugged into the PC it will automatically switch to the HDMI sound (and make it the default playback device), and if the cable is disconnected it automatically switches back to the speakers. If you are having problems accessing the sound panel, this is another option (for most) until you get the slow opening panel issue resolved.

Hi,

Sounds complicated (To me anyway)

I'm running Windows 7 64bit with 2 video cards (NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and NVIDIA GeForce GT 240) as I use 3 monitors.

My TV is located where it is not possible to run a cable to it from the PC, It is however beside a CAT5 box that is connected to a CAT5 box beside my PC.

I use a TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router for my PC and wireless access upstairs.
It is connected to a Belkin Share wireless router set up purely as an access point downstairs via the 2 cat boxes mentioned earlier for wireless access and a wired connection to my xBox.

I want to use one of the spare video card ports to connect to my HDTV
I have a HDMI output on the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and a DVI output on the NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 that are not in use.

I think HDMI is the way to go as I believe I can use a S/PDIF cable to connect my motherboard to my NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT and so I will have audio as well as visual.

My question is:
Can I use a HDMI to CAT5 converter, connect a HDMI cable to the video card output, connect one end of a CAT5 cable to that, the other end to my TP-LINK TL-MR3420 router (Which is connected to my Belkin Share wireless router)
Take a CAT5 to HDMI converter and run a HDMI cable from my Belkin Share wireless router to my HDTV?
Is it possible to do this via a router at all?

Any help is much appreciated ..

A:Connect PC to HDTV via HDMI -> CAT5 -> Router -> Access Point -> CAT5 -> HDMI -> TV

Hi and welcome to TSG.

The HDMI to CAT5 converter most likely sends raw high speed serial video through all four twisted pairs of wires in the CAT5 cable rather than converting the video data to Ethernet compatible data packets. Any Ethernet router or switch would not know what hit it.

Hi. i have HDMI cable and i don't have sound when i connect pc to tv
Using Asus Nvidia G210 can anyone help me to fix it?

A:Need help about HDMI sound to tv

Do you mean there is no sound on the TV? or that there is no sound on PC speakers after connecting the HDMI cable?

On most systems, if an HDMI cable is connected Windows will automatically switch the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (PC sound) to HDMI. If you want PC sound with HDMI connected you must manually switch it back.

If your problem is no PC sound on the TV, first make sure HDMI was set as the default audio playback device. Second, HDMI sound is usually generated in the video card (I couldn't find out if that is the way this card works but if it is make sure the HDMI audio (video drivers) are installed and that that there is no error in the Device Manager). On some older video cards, you must supply S/PDIF audio from the PC to the Video card.

A:No Sound on HDMI out

Only some video cards carry audio over the HDMI port. The RealTek hi-def audio port is NOT on the HDMI cable. Coonect the RealTek digitial audio port directly to your TV/system.

Hi everyone,
I just bought a brand new Philips TV and wanted to watch my first movie from my Vaio VGN-Z11VRN, however I had only picture with no sound on the TV.

I connect using HDMI. Have so say that the TV is ok, since it is working with dvd just fine using the same cable. Also, I've been connecting my laptop many times with my previous tv with no problem at all.

In sound option, when I connect hdmi, the device selected is actually HDMI one...and I can see the equalizer moving.

Can't understand where the problem is. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. All the drivers used are from sony official site.

I've seen on this forum that many users actually have problem tv sony and philips tvs, and one of them solved the issue by upgrading the nvidia drivers. However, I have the last drivers (from sony site) and the drivers on the nvidia site do not support sony laptops.

I've also updated to latest drivers of realtek with no result

Tried to used different HDMI ports of the tv, different players on the laptop (using variety of settings).... still nothing

I will really appreciate any help!!!

Hi.

Try updating to the latest NVIDIA drivers, as I bet those from Sony won't be. See the link in my signature and if you have any problems report back.

Now my problem is that I am usind a 32" Slyvania brand Flatscreen LCD TV as my Main Monitor, running this through an HDMI cable. The TV itself doesn't have a Mini-Stereo jack type input for sound, so I am trying to get the sound to run through my HDMI port and cable. The Sound Card specifications state that sound is available through the port, and comes with a guide on how to do it. It has a 4-pin to two-pin SPDIF cable that plugs into the Graphics Card, the problem is the SPDIF on my motherboard isn't the 4-pin needed. it is only a 3-pin. After talking to the Customer Support on both the computer and the Graphics card and with GeekSquad, I was told I need to buy a sound card. hence the sound card in my configuration. I am still having problems getting sound to my TV, basically, I have never heard any sound come out of it. ^_^ Any Ideas?

A:Sound through HDMI

The three pin SPDIF connector, is it a configuration like this?

0 0 X 0

Where the 0 spots are pins, and the X marks an empty pin?

If so, check the wires on your four pin cable. Most of them have one of the four wire slots empty. That means there's no wire in it. If the cable is like that, line the connector up with the pin header on your motherboard so that the empty pin slot lines up with the missing pin, and the wires line up with the pins that are there.

It's easier to make a connector like that with one wire unpopulated for keying, rather than three separate little wires that the end user can plug in wrong.

Let us know if that works.

Hello everyone, first post here. I've looked everywhere on the Internet for a solution to my problem and come to absolutely nothing. I recently purchased the Lenovo Ideacentre 700 Desktop and so far it's been great, however I would also like to use it as a monitor for my Xbox 360 (yes, I'm behind the times!). Of course, this is made possible by the HDMI-in port on the back of the computer. However, when I switch to HDMI-in, I have picture, but no sound! I've updated the audio drivers, checked in device manager, checked in playback/recording devices and I've made no progress. Does anybody have a solution? Thank you in advance! -Ben

A:No Sound from HDMI-in

Search up 'Sound' on Windows Search. Click on the Sound. Make sure that HDMI is set as default. Then, double click on the HDMI; the click on listen which should be and on the top. And choose 'listen to this device' Let me know if that works.

Im Trying to connect to my TV and have the sound come through the TV but it will on playback from the speakers. When I select SPDIF I get no sound at all.

I seen where someone had the same problem here is a link provided

Please help me, as I dont want to have to go back to factory just so I can use this function.

Thanks

A:No sound through HDMI

You have to have the HDMI in the Sound Panel's Playback section so it can be set as the default audio playback device. The first step is to reinstall the Video drivers. Windows 7 uses the same driver as Vista, if Gateway and or the Video manufacturer does not have a Windows 7 driver, use the Vista driver.

Hi there, I have recently acquired a gaming PC which has been built up from scratch by a local in my area who has good reputation for reliability etc. Most things are working fine, however I cannot seem to get the sound working through my television, which is my main (and only) monitor. The TV/Monitor is plugged into the PC through a DVI/HDMI adapter since the PC does not come with a HDMI slot. Visually, the TV is recognized instantly as '1.32 LCD_TV' in control panel - display, so the PC knows it is there. However, right clicking sound in the bottom right of the desktop and going to playback devices, there is only Speakers, Headphones and Digital Audio. The PC is not picking up the TV as an option for sound to come out of and that has baffled me. Most of the solutions previously to this problem are to go to playback devices and simply switch, but I can't since the option is not there for me, almost like the TV isn't connected at all.

I went on device manager and tried to update all related rivers but they are all apparently up to date. Furthermore there are no important updates available and the machine is completely up to date. Adobe and Java are installed.

Previously I have had no issues with this computer connecting to my TV. I am at my wits end! I have trawled the web and this forum and tried every conceivable method of getting things to work with no luck. In device manager I have the error This device cannot start. (Code 10). In Playback devices I have no option for my TV, or any HDMI devices, only speakers. Some of the things I have tried; 1. Updating the driver 'windows has determind that my driver is up to date'2. starting in safe mode and uninstalling the device, then installing driver (see above for result)3. using the intel update tool4. downloading the latest HP drivers I'm so frustrated and angry with this. It really shouldn't be this hard. Is this an MS issue or HP? Help is appreciated.

Hello, I have just registered and I have a problem that, hopefully, some of you can help me with. I purchased my system, a HP Pavilion a6652uk with Vista Home Premium in February this year and up till now it has been working alright. The speakers, Logitech X240, are connected via HDMI. I logged on on Sunday and the speakers were not working. I clicked on playback devices and it showed the hdmi as being unplugged. Not being an expert, the only thing I could think of was a system restore. This solved the problem and I had sound. I took the system out of hibernation this morning and had exactly the same symptoms, no sound and again showing hdmi output as being unplugged. I do not want to be continually restoring so any help would be appreciated, not too technical, as my computing knowledge is limited. I shall be looking forward to some advice. Thank you. Andy.

First, let me say that I did some research on this forum and did not find any posts with my exact situation.

My problem: I have my computer hooked up to my LCD 46" Sony Bravia TV with a DVI-HDMI connection and am getting no sound.

I am aware that DVI does not push sound through. And I have no drivers that need to be updated. There are two audio connections underneath my HDMI connection on the back of my tv. I have those currently plugged in and connected to the back of my computer in the green audio jack and am still not getting any sound.

Also, everytime I plug in the audio jack on the back of my pc, realtek pops open and I think I'm selecting all the right options...

Please help! Am I doing something wrong? How can I fix this? I don't want to buy speakers; I really want the sound to come from my tv.

A few days ago, I plugged a HDMI cable into my new laptop and watched a few videos on my HDTV. No problems whatsoever. Since then though, every time I plug in the HDMI cable, the video comes through just fine, but there's no sound. I've found several threads with similar problems, both here and on other sites, but nothing I've found and tried has worked.

Some more details:

Laptop is a HP Pavilion DV6-3141ea
Graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (Most threads say it's something to do with the graphics but I've still not managed to fix it)

I've updated the drivers for both the graphics card and the sound card (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). When I plug in the HDMI, nothing changes in my sound settings - the only choices I have are Speakers and Headphones, Independent Headphones, and Speakers (Bluetooth Hands-free Audio). There's no HDMI option or SP/DIF or anything appearing once I plug in the HDMI. I've checked for disconnected and disabled devices too, and it still doesn't show up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I get the distinct feeling this is one of those things that's been staring me in the face the whole time ><'

A:No sound through HDMI

If the HDMI is not listed in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel playback section. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and select show disabled and disconnected devices. If it then displays the HDMI you can then select it as default playback device and you should get HDMI audio. But, if it still does not display that USUALLY indicates a problem with the Video drivers.

A:no sound on hdmi

Hi fretworker,

I'm assuming your Dell Studio has Intel GMA 4500M graphics? Please correct me if not.

By going into Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Sound, you will hopefully see the HDMI out uses a separate driver called something like "High Definition Audio Device" which is not listed on Dell.com. When you updated drivers, there's a good chance you missed this one (through no fault of your own).

1. Right-click on the HDMI output, select Properties, and make sure the device is enabled.

2. If it is, click Properties in the Controller Information area, switch to the Driver tab, and try to Update Driver.

3. If it's greyed out, go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Device Manager. Expand 'Sound, video and game controllers', right-click "High Definition Audio Device" and select Update Driver Software. If it needs updating, update and report back here.

Let me know how everything goes...

My motherboard has two seperate sound capabilities. The normal sound outputs [Jacks in the back, headphone jack in the front] and sound over the HDMI.

I use our 37 inch flatscreen as my second screen, and if I put a Blue Ray in, the software asks me if I want to use the regular sound, or the HDMI [and the sound comes out my TV]

I do not know how to put anything else to the TV speakers, and I was hoping somebody can tell me what to do to fix that.

A:Use sound over HDMI

Thing is Joes is where do you want the sound to come from.

Personally my TV speakers are pretty ordinary and I have my stereo hooked up to the TV to pick just enough signal from it to give me a decent "surround sound" system.

Just bought a new Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card to replace my dying onboard video. I have a Vizio HDMI TV however I am not getting sound through the HDMI cable. Was under the impression HDMI transmitted video as well as sound.

Not sure if the problem is with the TV or with the Video Card?

Any info on the card is appreciated

Thanks

Morning all,

Right i picked up a pc that needed some tlc, tried installing windows 8 and get the error so installed windows 7.

Quick breakdown:

motherboard - k7s41
cpu - amd seprom 2400+
graphics card - powercolor x1950 pro agp 256mb

Had a few problems installing the video card - but after going into bios and changing agp to 4x instead of 8x it now works great - full hd display using a dvi - hdmi 1.4v lead

Now my problem is I cant get any sound, having read and read i now know there is sound output through DVI (19 pins video / 5 pins sound)

My question is how do i enable the sound through my x1950 pro

I have tried installing the realtek hd audio drivers but it just comes back no driver installed.

tried upgrading ccc to latest version still no help.

I have tried the phone jack at the back into stereo jack in tv but no sound (does the hdmi have to be into port 1 on tv or should that not matter)

Or am i just wasting my time and it is impossible to get the sound through my hdmi.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

A:Getting sound through DVI - HDMI

Is your Windows 7 32 or 64bit?
Your system seems to be very old. The motherboard seems to date from 2004. It looks to have been designed with Windows 98 or 2000 in mind so the chances of running Win 7 in any meaningful way is not really an option IMHO!

I have a hp elitebook 8440p  sj990up windows 7 professional 64 bit  and it is no longer sending sound through the hdmi to tv connection. When I first used the cord a week ago it worked but now it isn't.  i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the nvidia hdmi drivers from the hp sight as well as the nvidia sight. I've tried updating the bios as well.  For whatever reason my tv doesn't even show in my playback devices even though it once did.  I've tried looking under disable and disconnected devices as well.  I was wondering if you might be able to lead me in the right direction as to how to resolve this problem

I can get a picture not full screen though And no sound on tv please help as i know the very min about laptop tech .
Any links would help a lot .

You usually need a HDMI driver to send the sound to the TV. The cable alone is not enough.

What make and model is your laptop? Unless you fill out your system specs it is more or less impossible to help you.

Hi panda85996 and welcome to Vista Forums

Assuming that you have not changed anything physically with your setup, that everything is turned on and working and that you have not installed anything new on your computer in the interim, have you checked that you haven't accidentally set your sound on mute?

hello,

i need help getting sound out from my new computer.

Okay, I have a Samsung S22A350H LED Monitor, and a HP P6755a computer with an ATI HD 6450 Video Card. I connected the monitor directly to the video card using a HDMI cable. The display works perfectly, however the sound does not. My speakers are plugged in and when my integrated sound (IDT HD Audio codec) is enabled (and set as default) it works perfectly fine, but when i try to set my 'ATI HDMI Output' as default theres no sound.

please help me with this issue

thank you.

I would like to upgrade my Intel X48 based (MSI X48C Platinum) machine to allow HDMI signal including sound to an HD TV. I have looked on Newegg at HDMI video cards, and while there are several pages of them, I do not seem to be able to resolve the sound issue. In looking at the port configuration on the cards, I do not see any provisions for a "sound in" receptacle. Do HDMI video cards automatically process sound? My inclination is to believe they do not. Can someone point me to some PCIE X16 cards that provide an audio signal via the HDMI?

The ATI 4xxx series cards have HDMI output with sound output. For example:

ATI Radeon HD? 4350 Graphics Technology ? Key Features

* Upscale Beyond 1080p - Watch the hottest Blu-ray movies or other HD content at full 1080p display resolution and beyond.

* Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD 2) - UVD 2 frees up your CPU for other tasks so you get The Ultimate Visual Experience? for the most processing-intensive content.

* HDMI - Enjoy the latest audio technologies using HDMI with 7.1 digital surround sound support.

Not that i OFFICIALLY know of, or have tested myself, but as long as you have either a soundcard and onboard sound, or sound card and hdmi graphics card or hdmi graphics card and onboard sound, then try it.

the only thing is that vista usually uses only the default sound device, but sometimes other devices can pick up the system's sound. either way, it wont hurt anything on your computer.

Hi, and thanks in advance

I just bought a new HDMI cable and plugged it into my Bravia?.
I've got a Lenovo Y560 and I just can't get my music to play through the TV.

A:No Sound in HDMI

There is NO HDMI audio listed in the snapshot you show. You will need HDMI audio enabled (if you have it). In the Sound Playback panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then LEFT click Show Disabled and Disconnected devices. If the HDMI is now shown you can select it as the default playback device.

If it is not shown, and the PC is supposed to have it, update the Video driver.

Hi,
I'm not sure if I'm in the right section, if not please guide me to the right place for help. Thanks.
I brought my partner an hdmi cable. Both his TV's have hdmi slots. Using his computer, we can only get picture on either TV, but using my computer we get both audio and video playing through the TV's. I want it to be able to run through his computer as I am only here in the weekends. I do however have the next 10 days at his place to sort out this issue, then its back to weekends only. At the moment to watch a movie on the tv from the computer, with hdmi, we are having to use pc sound.

His pc details are:
hp pavilion a6760a
win 7 home premium
geforce 9300ge driver ver. 301.42

I have tried ... updated the video card drivers, updating hdmi driver, changing video cards (which resulted in his computer not even registering there was an hdmi slot)
and yes before any one suggests is I have made sure the audio settings are set to hdmi. Like I said I got it to work fine off my comp just not his.

The cable clearly works as we have used it in my computer as well as with the ps3.
Any and all help gladly welcome.

A:no sound through hdmi

I know you said you checked it, but IF the HDMI audio chipset is set as the default audio output, all audio should be using the HDMI port.

So if it's not working, HDMI is not set as the default, there is a driver issue, or there is a hardware issue.

As you reference swapping video cards, I'll assume this is a desktop PC. In which case the HDMI audio drivers are part of the video driver package. Check the device status in Device Manager. You should also see two audio chisets, the onboard audio chipset or sound card and the HDMI HD audio chipset.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 3847 with Windows 8.1 64 bit installed. To use it as a dedicated Windows Media Center HTPC, I added a 128GB SSD as the boot device and installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. My system has Intel HD Graphics 4400.
As I connect it using HDMI cable to my TV, there is good video but no sound. The Device manager shows a yellow exclamation mark on the High Definition Audio Device and there is a red X on the speaker icon in the toolbar.
I've installed the latest Intel chipset drivers from Dell site for this model, deleted the audio devices to be rediscovered but it hasn't fixed the problem. I'll appreciate any ideas to fix this problem. Thank you.

A:No sound through HDMI to LCD TV

You do not have the correct Intel video drivers. The correct Intel video drivers will install the Intel HDMI audio. You show "High Definition Audio Device" which is the Windows installed generic, basic function driver and that is probably your problem.

Should the HDMI carry the signal or do I need to run a 3.5 jack as well.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi, for the first time ever I'm trying to connect my laptop to my TV via a HDMI cable, everything works fine apart from the sound, it's being played via the laptop for some reason.

I went on the sound options on device manager, the "Digital Audio (HDMI)" option says "not plugged in" therefore I can't enable it to play it through the TV. I've also tried to change the projection to "projector only", no luck.

I went onto "device manager" every one of my drivers seem updated, apart from a single one which I don't even think is currently downloaded. I try to use the "update" button however it can't find the driver online. I don't know which driver it is therefore I can't download it manually either.

My laptop is a "HP Pavilion g6" and TV is a Philip, not sure of the exact model however. I've left some screenshots below to help you geniuses with assisting me!

A:HDMI No sound

Check if you have Intel Chipset Drivers installed.
Open registry and under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\InfInst
The latest version should be: 10.0.13
If it is missing then download and install the drivers. Intel Chipset Drivers should install any missing drivers for the built in devices on the MB such as USB, HDMI etc... and hopefully the yellow exclamation mark will disappear.

I have connected my Latitude E6500 running Windows 10 Professional to a Samsung TV using an HDMI cable with a DisplayPort-to-HDMI connector.  I am using this arrangement to view streaming video from places like YouTube and Amazon Prime, and it works well most of the time.
But occasionally I will loose the sound, and the only way I have found to get it back is to re-boot.  Has anyone else had this experience?

Ok I don't have any sound coming through my HDMI

I have the SPDIF hooked up from the mobo to one of my two graphics cards.

I have 2 Asus Nvidia 9800GT

The HDMI is going to a 46" Samsung 750

Technically I have the HDMI and SPDIF set up through the card that is in PCIx16 #2

Does it have to be hooked up through PCI #1?

Suggestions on how to get this to work?

Thanks.

A:No sound through HDMI?

HDMI has its own sound on most if not all video cards.
That is what I have read at least.
SPDIF would go direct to the TV wouldn't it?
TV and moboard manual might or should tell you how to set it up.

HDMI on my Asus you run it straight to TV or monitor with speakers.
I haven't tried it but my video card instructions say to do it that way.
It has its own Nvidia sound card built in.

Hope that helps and sorry if it doesn't.
Mike

i think all cards that have HDMI, output sound.
so you need HDMI adapter that outputs sound.

don't know if such thing exists, though.

So I tried to discover as much as I could with all the forums that had the same issue that I am having posted but so far no luck.

I put Windows 7 on my Wife's Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and now the sound will not work through the HDMI output. When I had vista on it it recognized the TV and had no problems playing both Video and sound, but now only video plays.

I tweaked with settings on the TV and in Windows sound options. I set the HDMI as the default output but no luck. I clicked on the button in the sound properties to upgrade the drivers and it told me that I had the most up to date drivers.

Maybe there is another known issue with Windows 7 and the HDMI that I could not find any literature on a solution for it.

Thank you for your time.

So I've got a problem,I changed my case 2 days ago and everything went great, all working as it should be.Up until an hour ago, when the lid got stuck in one of the little clips so after a quick bang it went in.But then I lost my picture on both monitors.
So I went to investigate,I ended up moving the GPU over to the other 16x slot and it is now fine.
but since then I've lost all sound through either the front or rear jacks,It is saying that the speakers are not connected.I've done all the usual checks,as in default devises, drivers.Everything I can think of I have done.I have tried a new cable, and tested through both of my phones and the speakers work fine.I've also tried a few sets of headphones in both jacks. There is a faint hiss sound when I turn the speakers on,that has just started.
I have managed to get sound through my tv via HDMI,but every time,I go into audio manager and lets say change from soft to hard,I loose the sound again, and have to set the HDMI as default again.this too has just started.
I'm using the on board realtek audio sound card ,on an Asus p8z77-lx motherboard.
Just a quick note when I plug in the jack, there is no beep and the pop up screen does not appear as normal.
To me it is pointing towards a motherboard problem, with the 2 problems happening together.Any help would be great.

A:No sound through speakers.Jack not being detected.HDMI sound only?

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I finally got video and sound to come out both the mobo and the NVidia video/HDMI card.
MOBO is Foxconn G41MXE. Sound system on mobo is NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition audio Controller, by Intel.
Video Card is GeForce GTX 550 Ti, with NVidia GF116 High Definition Audio Controller. Video card has HDMI output
connected to TV set, containing both video and sound. (Video from NVidia goes to both monitor and TV.)
Windows 8.1 with all updated drivers, as far as i know, based on two driver update apps. In Windows, there is
a significant delay between the audio coming from the mobo sound to the local speakers and the sound out of the
TV set. In PCLinuxOS on the same machine, there is hardly any delay. It is thus painful to watch a movie or a Youtube performance with any kind of speech or singing on Windows, due to the lack of lip-sync.
I need to know of there is a fix for this, and if so, where do I find it, or can somebody please post it here?

Thanx for your assistance--doug

A:mobo sound and HDMI sound not synced in Windows 8.1

You are using two separate "sound cards" (chips) at the same time (one in the Video Card and one on the motherboard). The processing in the chip can cause a delay or out of sync. Windows is designed to only have one default audio playback device. Circumventing that can cause problems, such as you hear.

What I'm wondering is can I make windows media player be the only device that uses the video card sound?

Any ideas?

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

DV7-4060us

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

my computer is connected to my surround sound box then to the TV. But windows only lets you choose 2 ch stero output via the HDMI. The only explaination i could come up for this is that windows detects my TV having only two speakers and doesn't detect my surround sound having 7.1 speaker set up....? how can you force win 7 to output 7.1 via HDMI????

A:HDMI surround sound

Windows is not "detecting" your TV - it doesn't know or care what is connected. However, many systems only output two channel stereo via the HDMI and it's up to the TV or surround audio system to provide the surround sound. This is also true of the S/PDIF output on many systems.
