Viewsonic monitor turning itself off

Q: Viewsonic monitor turning itself off

I have a four year old 19" viewsonic monitor-just recently its started shutting itself off for no apparent reason. If I press the power button it comes on again-for a while. Tried it on a different PC and same problem

Is this a known fault with monitors and is it likely to be worth repairing I wonder?

Greetings all,

My ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is recognized as Generic Non-PnP Monitor. I even downloaded and attempted to install Viewsonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64". It times out at the end of installation and requests I download "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed" from Viewsonic website.

My display view is set at max res of 1600x1200. I am running Win7-Ultimate 64bit.

Is there any other way to get Win 7-Ultimate 64bit to recognize the monitor as VX? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 256MB card.

Thank you

A:ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED monitor is a Generic Non-PnP Monitor

If you need to know, here is how I fixed it.
First install ViewSonic's "Standard_Monitor_Driver_Signed_Win7_x64"
Go to Device Manager
Select Monitor drop down tab
Select Generic PnP Monitor
Right-Click on Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Update Driver Software"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Select from the models listed: Generic PnP Monitor
Select option "Have Disk..."
Select "Browse..."
Navigate to where the ViewSonic monitor drivers are stored
Example: C:\ViewSonic
Select monitor driver
Example: VX2450_SERIES
Click "Open"
Click "OK"
Select from the pop up window:
ViewSonic on the left and ViewSonic VX2450 Series on the right
Click "Finish"

Finally, you will receive the message: Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
Notice resolution is now 1680x1050

After successful install of Nvidia drivers for my laptop's "nvidia geforce 9300m gs" current version:

186.19 to new version: 260.99, the max res cannot be set to the following available resolutions:
1920x1200, 1920x1440 or 2048x1536

I run XP on a new box and a fairly new 19" (year old) View Sonic LCD monitor. The monitor worked as advertised on my old PC but when attached to my new one I frequently get a flashing green power indicator light and will get no picture.

This happens 100% of the time if I cold start the PC and I have to screw around with the restart button and on/off power button to get it to come back to life and in truth I do not know which combination of button pushing gets it to come back. I now use the power saver mode because that seems to be the most consistent way of bringing the monitor back to life but even that didn't work this am.

ViewSonic's web site wasn't much help.

Help here?

About four months ago I bought a supposedly rebuilt Viewsonic P815. About one month after I hooked it up it started to not degause. The screen is pink.

Every once in a while it will correct itself and be fine for a day or two, then it goes pink again. I've replaced cords and plugs.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to decide between the G90FB 19" or the P95F+B...
Here are the links:

The only real difference between the 2 is the fact the Professional one (P95F+B) has an aperture grille while the Gaming (G90FB) has a shadow mask

I know the shadow mask uses dots (dot pitch) while the aperture grille uses lines instead of dots...

Which monitor will give me the best picture for gaming and crisp clear text.

A:Which is the better Viewsonic monitor?

If you can afford it I'd get the Professional version. I had Philips 107P (Professional) monitor with a .25 Aperture grille and it was the best monitor as far as picture quality/clairity I've ever seen (I'm sure there are better, but not without paying major money).

I am running Vista Home Prem.I use an 8800 GTS EVGA.I have the latest drivers for my 8800. I run 2 Viewsonic monitors. One is a VG900b and is fine. I also run a VX2235 digital monitor. Both monitors are listed in device manager by model. I manually installed drivers directly off of the discs.I have also downloaded Viewsonic's monitor drivers. I can't get my 22" to go to it's native resolution of 1680x1050.I have had these installed for a long time and working fine. When I ran a hard disc error check that is listed under tools under properties of my computer it erased my 22" and it's capabilities to operate @ native resolution. Another difference is that before I manually installed the VX2235, it was listed as a 'non plug and play monitor' under device manager. I have never seen that before. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am this close to going out and buying a new XP Pro disc.

Why not just uninstall the monitor drivers you installed and reboot and use the Vista drivers?

I have a ViewSonic 19" CRT monitor (bought new in '99) connected to a PC that runs Win XP SP2, 512 MB RAM, Matrox Millenium AGP card.

The system ran fine until I moved it (carefully) to another room. The CPU boots but the monitor does not give any video. I get a black screen with a repetetive blue area that indicates no signal. The specific line entry is "No Synch". I think I may have seen this in the past, when the monitor was powered on but the CPU was shut off. I can't be certain it's the exact same condition.

I switched cables and tried a different video card but no luck. I don't have another monitor other than my laptop. I think I can hook it up to act as a monitor but not certain. Can't afford to crash the laptop.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like the vertical deflection is gone. Try the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on yours to see where the problem is. If the monitor is bad its better to bury a new one than to pay to have it repaired. New monitors are pretty cheap now.

I just replaced a 1280x1024 Viewsonic monitor, that had gone bad, with another one (Viewsonic VA708).

Though I've never really been one to pay "hard hard" attention to how things look on a monitor - never felt a problem with anything - something just looks/feels "off" with this one.

This is most noticeable to me on the titles appearing on the browser tabs in Firefox. They just look "wrong" - watery maybe to my eye.

BUT... I have attached a screenshot comparing a blowup of a browser tab from my work computer Dell 1280x1024 monitor (top) and my new Viewsonic monitor (bottom), blown up to 1000 px wide (I cropped), and in the blowup, I can't tell the difference.

So why might I be perceiving things differently with this new monitor?

FWIW, I did update the driver from the Viewsonic site, and I also played with both the monitor's and the control panel's display adjustments.

I have a Viewsonic VA721 monitor that I was using up until earlier today when the monitor started acting like a scrambled cable tv channel when turned on.

I was wondering if anyone might happen to know as to what might cause that, what the technical term for it might be and as to whether or not it can be fixed.

Up until today I have never had any problems with the monitor. Every time I would walk away from the computer for a while I would shut the monitor off so that I could avoid any burn in problems with it thereby preserving the life of the monitor. Because of that I have never had any problems with it until today and at the moment I do not know what could be causing the problem.

I tried the monitor on two different computers with two different cables and got the same result. I bought the monitor in 2006 brand new and up until today it has served me faithfully without any problems.

I don't know if it can be fixed or even if it is worth it nor do I know if it is something that I can fix myself or if I would have to have someone else fix it.

What I do know is if there is anything that I can do to fix the problem myself and restore it to active service then I might choose to give it a try.

Until I have more answers though I cannot make an informed decision about any of it and that is why I am asking.

I am hoping that there will be someone here that will know about such things and can give me some straight advice and information about the monitor and the pro... Read more

A web page with lots of pictures or the desktop and screen saver are the worst. Hi and welcome to TSG.

Do you happen to know if you are operating the monitor at or beyond its normal operating range for resolution and refresh rates?

Do you get a stable image if you start Windows with a lower resolution in Safe mode?

In the future, it would help us to help you if you give more details like the model number of the monitor and how it is connected to the computer. The TSG reporting utility program does not produce an exhaustive and detailed report about all of the hardware related to your computer.

My 2nd attempt to get some help off the forums

A few days ago, I tried loading up Warcraft 3, a game, and the screen went black, with the light flashing on and off. If I alt tabbed out of WC3 the screen turned back on. The problem persisted after a restarted, so I left it for a while. A few hours later I tried and W3 worked fine, no problems.

However today I turn on my PC and after a few seconds during the boot up, the screen goes blank with the flashing on and off light again. I restart it and it goes blank even faster.
After a while on the forums (on my GFs laptop) I try pressing F8 before the screen goes blank, and then press ESC for the 'default' Boot option. It goes on to boot up normally, with screen errors. I test out warcraft 3, (since when I first saw this it was whilst starting up this program) and it works fine, and goes on to do so for a few hours, till I turn the screen off and on to see if the problem is permanently fixed. It hasn't, the screen goes black.
Upon restarting my PC I get the same error as before, Pressing F8 and Esc doesn't fix it anymore. However now after pressing Esc I get to the screen where they ask me if I would like to Boot up in Safe mode. I do so and it loads up in safe mode fine.
Later on I try again to get it to load in normal mode, it does first time. Then upon loading Warcraft 3 again, the screen goes black again, with the flashing light. Again rebooting results in the same black screen a few seconds into loading... Read more

I have recently changed my hard drive and had to reinstall all the programs on my computer. Since doing so, the Viewsonic monitor has been stuck in troubleshooting mode. All the fonts and windows are very large, and the only resolution available is 680 x 460, with the only colour option at 16 colours.

What do I do to get a better resolution with this monitor. It worked fine until the hard drive was changed.

I have downloaded the driver for the monitor from the net which was unsuccessful.

I tried changing the adapter from standard to SVGA as recommended by windows, which was rejected by the computer and I had to change it back.

Windows is not accepting the driver that I downloaded.

I'm stuck between these 3 monitors. The HP 27xi AOC i2757fh or the Viewsonic VX2770SMH-LED 27

They all look similar, but I'm just not sure which one to get. I'm leaning toward the HP 27xi though, but this site rated the AOC i2757fh a little higher over the HP 27xi. I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys.

My main usage is playing games like BF3/BF4, SWTOR and Titanfall when it comes out. I also do a lot of web surfing and occasional movie watcher on this monitor. My current monitor is a 24 inch Asus VW246H and I like it, but I don't love it. So my main concern is how well it displays games. I don't want any ghosting and the least amount of input lag I can find. Now, I know the AOC boasts a slightly quicker response time of 5ms vs the HP's 7 seconds, but the reviews I've read thus far state there is no visual lag from the HP. What do you guys suggest? Thanks in advance!

Hello guys,

So one night when I left my computer on, i wake up at 3AM on a rainy night and i notice my entire room flashing (like from a tv in dark room). I thought I was having a rolling blackout, but as I got to my senses I noticed that my monitor was the only thing turning off and on. I turned it off, and went to sleep. The next morning I went to go turn on my computer and the monitor does the same thing. It turns (about a one to two second delay between each) until I turn the monitor off. The LED light is green. It goes from green, to off, to green, etc. I've had no prior problems with this monitor.

I tried switching out the power cord and plugging it into my wall (not connected to my video card, or anything) luck. It's definately the monitor. I don't know if it's dead or repairable or what. I often leave the computer on over night but i have a 10 minute screensaver and my monitor goes on standby after 20 minutes. When i fell asleep, my monitor was on standby (yellow LED). When I woke up it was the green turning on and off. Doesn't make much sense.

I don't have a my situation is pretty bleek atm.

I have a Viewsonic LCD VX924 3ms that i bought around the holidays of 2005. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys, I have no idea whats going on over at Viewsonic, however their support service is lacking some serious SUPPORT!!! Just the other day, I re-installed Vista 64 and had been happily using a x64 monitor driver for my VX2025WM, just before the re-install I decided to trall the net for latest drivers and deleted any old ones I had (stupid I know). Anyway on re-install with the latest unsigned driver - Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned_Windows_x64 - Dated 04/10/2007, it is now telling me it cannot find my monitor. I've also tried the latest signed driver and this is not working either. I have tried a manual install from C:\Viewsonic and funny enough the monitor isn't even listed. I've asked Viewsonic for help with them replying asking me to download the latest unsigned driver (what the???) All I need is a copy of the previous unsigned driver to this one listed and I know 101% it will find my monitor and work, does anyone have it or know where I can find archived drivers, as Viewsonic have not responded to this request. Please help! Cheers in advance.

Just upgraded to Win7 64bit. My trusty old monitor has no sound (the picture is fine) I found a driver for a generic Viewsonic x64 driver, but that didn't solve the problem. I read a suggestion somewhere to uninstall the driver and let Windows find it. That didn't solve the problem either. I tested the monitor with my old (XP) system, in case the monitor developed a sudden fault, but there is still sound when I plug it back in there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really don't fancy having to buy a new monitor too, after having had to replace my printer and scanner

A:Viewsonic vx2235wm-1 Monitor has no sound.

What does the monitor require? Older monitors, that use VGA or DVI usually have a Jack to connect from the PC's Speaker out (GREEN) to the monitor for sound. No driver is required for that. There is no audio in a VGA or DVI connection, just video.

My monitor seems to be experiencing some kind of problem.

The best way I can describe it is as a 'widescreen' mode. There is a black bar on the top and bottom of the desktop about 1 inch wide and extending across the entire length of the screen. I cannot move the mouse into this portion of the screen.

When adjusting the horizontal and vertical settings, 100% stops with the 1 inch black bars still in place. I cannot seem to make the desktop fit the screen. It seems to have shifted into some other mode of viewing.

I called Viewsonic tech support, but they didn't really know much else to do besides checking my settings. I am at 1024 x 768 resoloution, Radeon 8500 64MB graphics card, Windows XP and have installed the most recent drivers. Even when booting - the black bars are present, as if the monitor has somehow decided that is the mode it wants to be in.

If anyone has come across something like this before or knows how I might be able to fix it, I'd be MUCH obliged!

A:Viewsonic Monitor E771 Problem.

Might be starting to fail, 3 year warranty on those generally check the date on the back. Absolute easiest think to do would be to try it on another computer. On the other computer see if you square up the image with the screen if you can't then its the monitor, if you can it could be the video card.

I need help in making my mind up between the gorgeous Lg 1981Q and the attractive Viewsonic Vx924.

I have recently upgraded my desktop and am thinking about shifting to dual screen, mainly for video and web editing (with a little bit of gaming on the side) and need help in picking out new monitor.

one of my problems is that the looks of the tft is very important to me, cos i cant look at something ugly all the time, i would like a tft which is slim and very sexy (just how i like my women )

If anybody owns either of these screens i would really appreciate their feedback, on how good the monitor is and if they would recommend it.

P.s is there really that much noticable difference between 4 and 8 ms, and if so is it going to be noticable when video editing and gaming.

Never mind, as quick as the problem began, it's resolved itself for some reason. Post can be deleted.

I'm having a bit of a strange issue with my ViewSonic VX2258 monitor.
Out of nowhere, the screen started to flicker (not the sort of flickering you might expect from a loose cable, but literally going completely off and back on) every few seconds. Eventually the screen did not come back on at all.
Thinking there was a loose cable, I tried tightening them but to no avail. The light on the monitor is still blue showing that it is detecting an input and Windows still detects that the monitor is plugged in.
When I turn the monitor off and on, I can see the ViewSonic logo, but oddly enough after that it is a black screen and I am unable to get any system menus to appear (the ones that are generated by the monitor itself, not the PC) or change the source. I would have thought that because of this, there is something wrong with the display but that doesn't seem to be the case considering I can see the logo upon starting the monitor. (Perhaps something to do with firmware?)
I don't think that it is a problem with my GPU as my secondary monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster) still seems to be functioning perfectly but just in case, it is a Powercolor Radeon R9 290X and my drivers are all up to date.
Thanks for the help!

I uninstalled the update and have tried autodetect on the system all to no avail. Help!!

KChristians, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Sounds like you have WU set to automatically download and install updates, and it updated either the video or monitor driver. If that is what happened check your update history and you can uninstall it from there and should get you back to the previous drive.

Also if that s what it was you might want to set WU to not download and install drivers automatically, step #4 here,

hi all - ive got a problem with my new viewsonic vx2753mh-led monitor. its got 2x hdmi inputs and one vga.

the vga works straight off the bat, but whenever I try and plug the hdmi in it just says no input signal detected and goes black

I noticed in device manager that this was installed as 'generic non-pnp monitor' so after jumping through some hoops i managed to install the driver as 'viewsonic vx2753 SERIES'
Anyway this doesnt seem to have made a difference. still no input through the hdmi.

I have tested to cord on my samsung tv and it worked fine so it can't be a problem with the cord or the graphics card....

just some general info that might be of use:
windows 7 x64
dual monitor setup

the graphics is integrated on the intel i5 chip
my display adapters in device manager says Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.
it has a dvi out, hdmi out, and vga out.

thanks for any help you can give!

A:Viewsonic LCD monitor not recognizing HDMI input signal.

I have a Viewsonic which I'm also trying to run a media PC to connected via an HDMI cable, and I have noticed the exact same thing.

It was working fine for awhile, but recently I have been receiving an error on screen saying the "HDMI to DVI cable as experienced an error" or something to that effect. Note: I am using strictly an HDMI cable, not an HDMI to DVI as the message states (can't explain why I'm getting that message). I did the same thing you did, tested the machine using the same cable on another tv, and it worked fine on the other tv. What's strange is I can connect the cable box to the tv using the identical HDMI cable and it worked fine. Tried again using the same cable from the PC to the tv, and either 1) blank screen, or 2) shrunken screen with the aforementioned error which will go blank once I open Media Center.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but it seems to me Viewsonic hasn't made a good product in terms of connecting media PC's, for some reason. Of course, my tv is out of warranty at this point. If you find an answer, keep me posted, I'll do the same.

I have a Viewsonic VT2430 monitor/tv, and a Windows Vista 64, with ATI 4200 graphics chip PC.

Title says it all really, just put a scratch in my 3 week old monitor , mildly annoyed about it and wondering whether theres any way to make it go away. When I run my finger over it it dusn't feel like a scratch, but with the monitor off, or showing a bright white screen its quite evident, and running fingernail over it i can tell its an indentation. Against bright white it looks almost like the effect seen if theres water on your monitor (rainbowy), if that helps at all. Basically i'd just like to be not able to see it, and was wondering if you had any suggestions?

Hi there, i have some issues with my monitor (awhhh).

It's working fine like 10-20-30 minutes and then it's turning off (for no reason) while the cumputer is running and the flash/button goes pink. I don't know what's this colour stands for. Blue is when the monitor is active, yellow is when the monitor is turn to sleep and when i shut down my computer, but PINK? What's that, anyone?

The monitor is turning OFF, not in a sleep mode or something.
I must remove the cable and push back in every 20 minutes. That's wrong.

Maybe it's the cabel, maybe something with drivers and stuff...i don't know.

Me and my friend just finished our computer, we had a few issues with the NZXT Phantom case at first: they didn't send us a few screws so we had to go to the local tech store and buy a few, but everything worked out.

Our screen seems to be having a slight problem: the image of the screen is not taking up the entire space provided by the screen.
There is an option that we found: Auto Image Adjust, and I am sure this is the right one, except: it's disabled!

It's a ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED Full HD 1080p
We have Windows 7 installed on it, and everything is working fine.
The Screen Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080.
DPI Setting is at 150%

Thank's for the help!

Dear All Experts,

Hello! How are you all doing? Well today, I came across this Viewsonic LCD Monitor which looks quiet appealing and of course, being manufactured by the leading display technology company of the world Viewsonic! Heres the link to the product:

Viewsonic VX2433wm (24inch HD LCD Monitor)

Now here's what I need to know:

My main use of an LCD Monitor will be to:

* Watch Movies (Which should include a DVD & High Definition (HD) Quality Videos).
* Play 3D and Normal Games.
* Movies like Jurassic Park, Speed, Titanic, Action Movies, etc...
* Web browsing, doing back work on PC, Listening to music.

So, this in short will be the purpose of using a new LCD Monitor. So far, I am using CRT Monitor.

Once you have gone through the above link, could you kindly let me know how well would this Viewsonic LCD Monitor fair in terms of my above mentioned usage.

BUT NOW HERE's A TwIsT >>> While looking forward to buy an LCD Monitor, one question that kills my decision of buying it is that What if a Touch Screen LCD Monitor will be made available once Windows 7 releases to users. Then would all these LCD Monitors sold out today will be consider completely outdated not only in terms of technology but features as well. Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

A:Monitor black but turning monitor off/on flashes desktop for split second

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

I have a Viewsonic E-655 and when I put it on my computer nothing happens... if I pull out the power and then replaace it there is just five shimmering balck belts accross thre screen. I tried it on my Mum's computer, and it came up with the message Frequency Over range. What is this.
I had it out last night and had it plugged through a Sanyo projector - ie. the computer plugged into the projector and so did the monitor. Would this have done it? Also, carrying it back out to the car when it was raning might have gotten it wet?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Only thing I can think of is that your video settings got changed somehow. Can you put another monitor on your machine, boot up into windows. go to start/settings/control panel/display/settings tab/advanced button/adapter tab/ in the drop down box if refresh rate is set to optimal change it to adapter default, save , shutdown and hook up the other monitor. Long shot, probably won't work

So here's the deal. About a week ago my pc's monitor started to randomly turn on and off on it's own. I then swapped the monitor with another one. The problem still persisted. Later that night (last night) I bought a new video card. The problem is still persisting. Now to make problems worse, sometimes after windows is done loading, the screen will turn off and then just eventually shut the computer off. Also, everything freezes sometimes as well and then I have to restart the computer, but then it sometimes doesn't even load up windows and the monitor just stays in like a stand-by mode. Thanks if anyone could help me out.

I have a problem with my pc everytime I reboot the monitor is on but as soon as it is about to open the desk top it goes off!! can anyone help please?

A:Monitor turning off

Boot into Safe mode (by repeatedly pressing F8 key before Windows starts up)
Once Safe Mode is selected, continue loading and log into your Administrator account
At Safe Mode windows Desktop (answering Yes) to get to the Desktop
Click on Start->Run-> Devmgmt.msc

Locate "Display Adapters" and then click on the + sign to expand your actual video adapter
Right click on that adapter, and select remove (or un-install, or delete)

Once the video adapter has been removed, restart normally
When Windows starts up again in Normal mode, it will find the Video device and will try to locate drivers to install it.
If it cannot locate the drivers, you may need to download them from the net

I often leave my computer running and downloading or installing things for long periods of time. During this time I turn my monitor off to save power, but I frequently turn it back on to use it or check on progress. I know that turning florescent light bulbs on and off often significantly decreases their life span, and I was wondering if it was the same case with the cold cathode tubes in LCD monitors. Thanks for any input!

A:Is turning your monitor on and off bad for it?

As I understand it, the more you turn anything on and off the faster it wears out. You are doing the right thing by preserving your LCD, but you should be using the screen saver (power) settings to turn the monitor off, or better yet, just use a blank screen saver.

A:Monitor is not turning on?

It could be a couple of settings.

There should be some kind of function key on the keyboard.

Try to find a "CRT/LCD" button text (it would be above another key's main function text), and hit the function key, then that. Like you said, the "source" could be set wrong.

The screen brightness could be set all the way down. Try the function key, and find a picture of a sun with an "up" arrow next to it. Hit "Fn" and the sun button and go back and forth until the picture becomes brighter.

If none of those work, the monitor cable connection may have come undone somehow, or the monitor is shot.

A:Monitor Not Turning On

do you have any beeps when you start the machine?
if not, then there is a problem with the motherboard or something fitted/connected to it.
try the following: turn it off.
1) Take off the memory and video card; reboot and you should get beeps. No beeps = not good. Turn it off.
2) Put back the memory chips - you should get different beeps. no beeps = not good. Turn it off.
3) Put back the memory and video card - you should get 1 beep = this is good as it should then go on and start normally.
If nothing, first check that the front panel connections are good. If in doubt, disconnect (remember where they came from/use a digital camera to remember) and restart with a short over the pwr btn pins.
If this is OK then it is either a failed board or one of the drives - try without the drives to eliminate these.
Let us know.

So for the past couple of months my monitor Acer AL2216W has been repeatedly turning off and on, until I would unplug and plug it back in enough that it would work (this took about 10 minutes). If I turned off the monitor for long periods of time, and turned it back on, it would keep turning off and on and off and on. Now it won't even turn on, what happens is that the light on it turns off and on, but not the screen, like it usually does. I REALLY need some help with this, since I don't want to throw that monitor away. My graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT, but I am not sure that has a lot to do with it, I feel like it might be something wrong the the power supply, but I have changed the power cord multiple times. If it was caused by a faulty graphics card the monitor would display a "No signal" message. Since it's not doing that, it must be a faulty monitor. Monitor repair is unheard of these days so just replace it.

I recently repaired my monitor by replacing some capacitors on it. After being successful with that a friend of mine started having a problem with his monitor, so I said I'd give it a look. Its not the same problem, hes seeing green discoloration, looks like green powder all over the screen. The monitor is an LCD, and it doesn't seem to be a cable issue as we've tried a different VGA cable, however when I tried using an HDMI, i saw the problem but then after a minute or two it went away.

So maybe someone can help me diagnose the problem, or if its the green gun, can i fix or replace this? I visually inspected the capacitors on this monitor and they seem fine.

A:Monitor is turning green, how to fix it?

There is no "gun" for an LCD screen. I doubt there is much that is fixable by you unless you have diagnostic equipment and know how to use it.

So I purchased a new one (ATI Radeon 2400 Pro HD) which is the same exact type as the one I had before (its the only AGP type card available at my local Best Buy). I recently factory restored my computer, today actually. I had it running fine and was installing some of my old programs and transferring over some pictures I had put onto a flash drive. I left the computer on as I went out for 3 hours, allowing everything to finish and hope it'd be done by the time I got back. When I got back, the monitor was black and had a white stripe going across the middle with all weird colored dots within the white stripe. I figured the computer had frozen somehow, but now my monitor won't turn on at all. I manually restart the computer with the power button, I hear the fan going on and I even hear the beep noise, but my monitor is still black. When I touch the power button on my monitor, I get the noise it usually makes followed by the gateway logo. After a few seconds it just says no signal. What could be the issue here?

A:Monitor not turning on after freeze

Try another monitor first, then your computer might be sending the wrong signal to the monitor. A video signal "out of range" can cause a monitor to do this

this morning my computer is behaving very strangely. The computer is on, making all the appropriate noises, but I cannot see anything on the monitor. It is a dell monitor and just keeps flicking from no light to orange (standby) to green light (on apparently). Even when the green light is on, nothing is visable on screen. It takes about 2 seconds for it to change from one light to the next.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated,

A:Monitor problems. Not turning on

check connectors at rear, if have a spare connector try that
try hitting f8 on start up to access safe mode see if that triggers the monitor
try f2 or f12 for dell diagnostics see if that shows up

Using Win 7 Pro 64bit. Every time I turn off the monitor I either see a blank screen, or the taskbar is gone or the PC is in terminal sleep (can't be awakened). I usually have to reboot. If I leave the monitor on, these things don't happen. Any hints as to why this might occur?

I have a viewsonic Va2026w on xp , I brought it in 2 years and a half.
The monitor sometimes turns on around 10 min, now is around 20min. But the light still blinks all the time from start.
I am not sure whether the monitor dying or something else problem.
I can hear the CPU on and running. Should I get the PC checked or buy a new monitor (If the monitor dying)

My daughter and niece were on the computer today. Sometime during this playtime, niece hit the keyboard and voila - my display went 90 degrees!! I've had this happen before and its got to do with the Hotkeys or something like this. It's embarassingly simple, but I can't find out which combo of keystrokes to do. It's not the video card or anything "mechanical". I do remember the one time it happened, I was playing a game and was using one of the SHFT, CTRL or ALT keys for moving around. I've looked on MS website and Googled and AJ - not quite there! Will greatly appreciate the help - it's driving my wife crazy!

When running more graphically demanding games my computer seems to end signal output to the monitor. A list of games it has happened to are as follows: Splinter Cell, Call of Duty, Colin Mcrae Rally 3, Unreal Tournament 2004.

I have a Geforce 4 TI which is within specs for those games. 1Gb Crucial SDRAM(i melted the DDR slots on my mb). An Athlon 2100+ running as a 1500+ 100/100 because of some BIOS issues from a while ago.

I have updated both monitor drivers and graphics drivers and it made no difference. I have run the games on various settings and also tried turning the refresh rate down on my monitor to 60Hz which made no difference.

Are there any other things i could try? I had a feeling it may be to do with overheating but i cant test that very easily

/EDIT Win2k and finally i have come up with a way to test for overheating. Just before starting Call of Duty i ran MBM5 and got it to log every 10 secs to a file. Here is the last entry:

02/04/2004 | 18:25:20 | 1294 MHz | 16 C | 33 C | 57 C | 1.78 V | 2.48 V | 3.23 V | 4.91 V | 12.78 V | -12.38 V

and one from before the game started:

| 02/04/2004 | 18:33:45 | 1294 MHz | 14 C | 34 C | 53 C | 1.78 V | 2.48 V | 3.25 V | 4.96 V | 12.72 V | -12.38 V

I have tried 2 USB KVM switches now

The fault is that I put it to sleep at night, and in the morning I touch the keyboard to switch on - computer comes into life, but no display

The other comp is not on (makes no difference if it is)

I have to manually click the change over switch about 20 times before I get any lasting picture.

When switching to the comp that is on, I hear the USB noises quite a few times, after a while the screen may flicker with the picture, then goes off

Persistance pays off

I have updated the USB drivers in Vista (now dated Sept 06) and the display drivers to no avail

Any suggestions ?

Have you tested without the KMM? Sounds like a faulty monitor, not a KVM issue.

I have a HP desk top with an older hp 19" monitor. Some mornings when I "wake" the computer up the monitor does not come on. I have to unplug it from the power and plug it back in.

Anyone know how to fix this other than keeping it on all the time?

I have a 22" LG Flatron W2234GS LCD monitor which I bought under six months ago.

I haven't had any sort of issues with it since I bought it. But lately it keeps going blank as if it was turned off. Then after a while it turns back on again at random.

I've attacthed it to another PC and still the same problem.

Right now I am using it but the screen looks like its about to cut off because it's the screen goes darker (dim) then bright again.

A:Monitor keeps turning off/goes blank

Unless you have wiring/power problems at the location you are situated in, it sounds like the monitor is going defective with a thermal problem. It is possible, though unlikely, that it could be a problem with the power cord to the monitor, so if you have a spare one, it would be worth swapping to see if that helps. Otherwise, what is the warranty on the monitor?

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my monitor turning black. It seems to happen when watching movies/playing games but it's happened randomly a couple of times just by minimizing a window etc. The monitor isn't actually turning off because it's still bright and the light is still on. My computer isn't crashing as I can still hear sound and If i turn the monitor on and off it fixes it for a few minutes. I hooked up a second monitor and set it to duel view and the second monitor doesn't turn black when the other one does. It seems to be really random. Sometimes happening every few minutes when watching a movie and sometimes not for an hour. I tried reinstalling video drivers but that didn't help and I figured it wouldn't because the other monitor doesn't turn black.

What do you think, anything I can do or is my monitor on it's way out? Thanks.

A:Monitor turning black.

I guess this belongs in hardware. Anyway, basically here's what happened. A few weeks ago the monitor worked fine. I went to sleep and my mom came in in the morning to use my computer to pay bills. My Ethernet cable was hooked up to my PS2 and I didn't want to get out of bed, so I told her how to plug it into the computer. Next she turned on my computer and all the sudden the monitor stopped turning on. It's a nice flat panel monitor and I'd rather not have to get rid of it. I've tried plugging it in and out of the computer, blew the dust off, etc.
Still won't work.
Is there any hope for this monitor?

A:My monitor stopped turning on

Try disconnecting it from the computer and turning it on. You should get some indication, at least for a few moments, that it's not connected to the computer. Failing that, something probably is wrong with the hardware.

I went to do dishes, and came back my monitor(ViewSonic) was turning itself on and off, the light would come on, display my desk top for a fraction of a second, then the light would go out for a couple seconds. I tried turning it on and off a couple times (I can turn it off and it will stay off, but not on) Unplugging it and what not, to no avail.

I immediately thought it to be my monitor so I lugged an old monitor (Samsung) out and tried that, but it did the same with that monitor. Then I thought maybe it's just the computer, so I plugged the ViewSonic into my old computer and it continued to flash. (The Samsung works fine on my old computer, using that at this very moment.) I've tried using difrent cables from both monitors to both computers with no diferance in results, power and video cords.

All this random information may be confusing so I'll try to simplify things.

I can plug the ViewSonic into *just* power, and it will flash.

If I plug the Samsung into *just* power it comes up and says no connection (or somthing very similar.)

BUT as soon as I plug the video cable into my newer computer the Samsung will start to turn off and on, like the ViewSonic.

If there are any questions I will try to answer them, my information about my newer computer is very limited due to having no monitor to easly check it's wares.

Im having a problem with my desktop pc.

When i turn on the thing, it all starts up except it doesnt turn on my monitor.

To combat this i used to have to turn it on and off until eventually the monitor turned on.

But now the monitor will not come on no matter how many times i turn it on and off. Will this
have something to do with my graphics card???

Im at college at the moment will post specs of pc when i get home

Thanks in advance

A:PC turning on but monitor not responding

Did you try it with another machine? If so, check the cable for bent pin's possiblely. If those are fine likely its the video card. Try with another monitor to check other wise see if you cant get a sloted card.

Hi all,

Recently, my Dell flat-panel monitor has been turning off on its own (green power light does not light on). I'll push the power light back on and the screen will come back on but turn right back off. On some tries, it doesn't even come back on.

I tried plugging the monitor power cord into another outlet and I am still havintg the same issues. I do not have an extra monitor to test to see if the problems occurs with another monitor.

I don't know if the monitor is overheating, if that's even possible? Or if it just old and needs replacing. The monitor is probably ~5 years old.

I don't see a model # on the screen but if anyone needs additional information I can gladly try to provide.

Thanks in advance~

Hello all, let me begin by saying that any problem I've had over the past 3 years, I've always come for help here, mostly by just searching through the forums. That being said, hopefully you guys can help me out with this one too.

After I log into windows, approximately 3-5 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes, my screen begins to "flash." When I say flash, I mean that I can see small dots slowly begin to take up the screen until these small dots, or lines, consume the screen and freeze the screen and whatever is on the screen. At this point, the screen will turn off and blink like it is in standby or just stay frozen. Sometimes after this occurs, the screen becomes fine some 20-30 seconds later, but will occur in a couple of more minutes. If the screen does not become fine, usually the case, I restart my computer and at times it says, "Windows has recovered from a serious error," although this only occurs 1/4 times. Please Help!

Computer Specs (Custom Computer)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
CPU: AMD 64 X2, 2.21 Ghz,
RAM: 2.00 GB

Monitor: Samsung Flatscreen 17''

EDIT: In addition, after the screen shut off, it seems the computer is still working since the music I've been playing still keeps playing while the monitor is in standby (?).

Hello, I have a custom built computer that has been running great, but recently, I took the monitor and plugged it into an older computer to get some files, now when I plugged it back in and turned on the computer the next day the monitor wont turn on. the light on the monitor goes green likes its supposed to then fades to yellow. Last time this happened it was something with the processor, but I didnt move anything except unplugging a cord. any ideas?

A:Monitor not turning on, PLZ Help ASAp!!!

Rarely is the monitor the problem, but definitely try it on the other system. Check the cable from the monitor to the video adapter. If there is a separate video card try reseating it. After that I would approach things as if you hadn't moved the monitor, but just turned the system on one morning and the problem appeared. So post back if needed.

I have a COMPAQ 7500 monitor, about 4 years old.
I turn it off every time I turn the PC off.
Since yesterday, when I turn the PC on again the led light turns green for about 5 seconds and then orange (stand by) and, obviously, the screen is black.
It took about an hour to get the monitor working again. The only different thing I tried was turning the monitor on before starting the computer, then it stayed on, but seems a coincidence 'cause I do never start the computer in the same way, I mean, sometimes I turn the monitor on first, others the PC first.
Last night I turned the PC off but didn't turn off the monitor, that's why I can contact you today. I'm afraid of turning the monitor off and not being able to start it again next time.
Can you help me, please??????
