Canon Pixma MP530 Mystery Paper Jam

Q: Canon Pixma MP530 Mystery Paper Jam

Hi, I'm new here. I joined after searching for my problem and finding that some others had had the same problem but that it was either solved or retired.

I'm on a MacBook running the latest version of Snow Leopard, and I can't print to my four-year-old Canon printer (an MP530) because it says I have a paper jam. The error code it gives is 1300. I've searched everywhere in the printer and opened every door I can possibly find, and I haven't found any paper jammed anywhere - or anything else, either. I'm about ready to dump the printer, but perhaps someone here can help me fix this mystery jam.

When I go to print something, the paper feeds in crooked on the left side, and then I get the jam error. I've felt around in the bottom of the paper feed and I can't find any problem or jammed paper there either. I'm using the paper loader on the back of the printer, not the sheet feeder or anything, and I'm using regular cheap office printer paper.

I read on fixyourownprinter.com about checking the purge unit. Is that something I should try?

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Canon PIXMA MP530 paper jamming issue
My new printer, the Canon PIXMA MP530 is a great printer, but lately it has been displaying that there is a paper jam when there is no paper jamming the printer... I've tried everything to get the alarm to go off, but it won't print. Anything I'm missing? Any experienced PIXMA owners in a similar "jam"... seriously... please help!

Have you taken out the paper and looked to see if another foreign object is causing it to think the paper is jammed?

Hey Guys
I have a problem that i need some help in, i have a canon mp530 all in one and i have two questions that i hope you guys can really help me out with.
the first question is this: how do i go about resetting all the configerations on the printer to the point like it just came out the box and question #2 is: i also have a regular lan line phone and im trying to connect it to the canon and for some reason its making my phone go nuts. it either the phone rings and the fax dosent pick up or the phone rings and when i pick the phone all you hear a fax ring. i dont know what to do anymore im either going to throw this out the window or just take a dam hammer and smash it to pieces. please help me out here i would really appreciate any kind of help you can offer,

thank you

There is a firmware upgrade from Nov 08 that might be applicable since it specifically is for FAX problems. There is a list of serial numbers that need the firmware upgrade – be sure to read the instructions as firmware can be tricky. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...tegoryid=2613&modelid=13371#DownloadDetailAct

The latest driver is 1.10 from 2006 that is probably already what you are using.

Probably your best approach for resetting everything to default is to just uninstall the software and reinstall it. If that doesn’t work you would want to check “Printers and Faxes” & “Cameras and Scanners” to make sure they are removed and also look in Program Files to remove any residual folder left by the software. Usually an uninstall and reinstall works fine.

I take it you read the manual and set the machine to FAX/TEL Auto SW.

I take it you have a “land” line for your phone – a LAN is a local network. If it is a DSL line you usually don’t want the regular phone filter on the modem connection. The hookup varies according to the type of DSL – Canon recommends contacting the DSL provider.

If it is just a regular phone connection you could have a poor line connection. I had some modem problems many years ago and also had a little noise on the phone. The phone company traced the problem and I had no more modem problems. The firmware is supposed to help with tha... Read more

I have a Dell XPS 8300, WinXP, SP2 (it's 4 years old). The MP530 was installed 6/23/07 and since that day I've been unable to run antispyware/malware scans of my system. Virus scans are not affected, only spyware/malware scans. I have used several spyware scanning programs including AVG, McAfee, AdAware, etc., and all cause the computer to abruptly shut down with the following Stop Error screen:

When I reboot, I get the notification window that the computer has recovered from a serious problem and the details point to a possible driver problem. I checked the Device Manager for problems and there are none. I downloaded and ran the Dell Driver Reset tool and no problems were found. I checked Canon's site for driver updates for this machine, and there are none. I consulted with Canon's techs and they are not aware of this problem.

In my Windows/System/32/Drivers/Spool/3 folder are two files called WrtMon.exe and WrtMon.proc each with the logo MPC and each created on 6/23/07, the same date of the printer installation. No one seems to know what these files are since there is no info associated with them, or if they even have anything to do with this problem. I am using Canon brand cartridges because I don't want to void the warranty so I am NOT playing the chip game (yet). I am getting the message that I have two Magenta cartridges in the printer (I do NOT have two Magenta cartridges in there). This message just started appearing and the light blinks fast on the cartridge. I try taking it out and putting it back in. Also have tried shutting the printer completely off for a minute and turning it back on. Sometimes the message says that it can't recognize the magenta cartridge but then it again tells me that there are two magenta cartridges. I've tried printing in just greyscale but it still won't print. I'm getting quite frustrated with this printer after having it less than 5 months.

Can someone please help me????

Hi All,

My Canon MP530 printer has 2 paper sources; a flat 'cassette' in the base and a near-vertical sheet feeder at the back. There is a button on the front of the printer which allows you to specify where you'd like the printer to take paper from.

When I put 6"x4" photo paper in the cassette, and press the button to specify the cassette, it jumps to the sheet feeder and prints on A4 from there instead. Removing the A4 from the sheet feeder in an attempt to force the printer to use whatever is in the cassette has no effect - it tells me the sheet feeder is out of paper. If I put A4 in the cassette it detects it and prints just fine.

I have been to the printer driver and made sure that the cassette is selected under 'paper source', but this has not helped.

I am using the "Easy Photoprint" software and this allows you to specify your paper size, type etc. I am guessing that this is not a paper pick-up issue (the printer has seen too little use to have coated the pickup wheels, and it picks up A4 ok). I think it is having difficulty detecting the smaller paper size although it used to print 6x4 before without problems.

Anybody know how to fix this? What is the mechanism by which paper is detected, and how might it have failed?

Any assistance gratefully rceived.

The first thing to do when this happens is unpolug and replug the machine, then clean all the rollers. Your manual should have the instructions for that in it. If you don't have the manual it should be available online at www.canonusa.com

These printers usually have a reset that involves holding down the power button. I'm pressed for time atm so try googling for that. Those might help if you've already followed the above steps

I have a Canon Pixma MG6100. I tried to print on glossy paper and the printer kept jamming. I gave up on printing the photo, but now the printer jams even when trying to print on plain paper from both the back tray and the cassette. Fromboth places, the paper starts to feed but then stops. I can hear the rollers still moving, but the paper is just stuck. I have tried cleaning the rollers as well as cleaning the bottom plate but nothing works. The printer is now useless.

I keep getting a "out of paper" error when I try to use the printer. It tells me to load paper into the tray and press the reset button. There is plenty of paper in the tray. I have looked at the paper tray holder while requesting it to print and it looks like the paper is never lifted up to meet the roller, almost like nothing happens. I would try to clean the rubber wheel for the paper pick up but it looks like it never moves nor does the paper ever move to meet the roller. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong and a possible fix?

I have a REALLY bad paper jam... My printer is MF4350d. The paper jam troubleshooting outlined in the manual did not help. When I opened up the toner area and the back end of the printer, I can't see see the paper at all. It looks like the paper is jammed in area that I don't know how to access to (if I can, aside from taking the whole printer apart).

Does anyone know any way to fix this problem? :/ The paper that got stuck was a label paper. I know for sure it is stuck because the paper did not come out at all. The WHOLE paper got stuck. The label paper half half label peeled off. I am assuming that the reason it might have curled up in the printer is due to the disappearance of that half label? :/

The label paper is a regular size paper with 2 labels divided evenly on the paper.

Is taking the printer apart the only way? (is that even safe/good to do on my own part?)

Please help thank you very much.

i have a Canon MP530, and it worked great for about a month and now it makes this awful grinding noise when it's warming up etc. the tech at canon said to take all the ink cartridges out and lift up the bar that holds the cartridge case down, then remove it, and put it back together again. well, it didn't help, so he said i'd have to take it in, or mail it in. i never have time to do that, and it doesn't affect the printing, it's just loud and annoying. anyone got any ideas?

Can anyone help with the following problem?
When I use the scanning function, the image (text) I get is almost unreadable in the preview pane. Transferring it to email, it still remains the same.
Some time ago I checked with Canon support and they advised me to adjust the MAPI settings in the email program. Got no idea what they are talking about. I don't think it is an email problem as the scan is not successful before sending it to Outlook.
I have adjusted various settings, but the scan is the same - unreadable.
Has anyone else had this problem, and, any suggestions?
Thanks

I have a Canon i850 printer which I have immensely enjoyed using these past four+ years. For one thing, I've never had even one paper-jam during that time.

My understanding always has been that it is best to have separate components, so that's why I've always owned a dedicated printer. However, it appears that the present-day trend is more toward all-in-one units. Actually, I'm in the market only for a printer, but if the Canon MP600 all-in-one is technologically advanced far beyond my i850, then I would strongly considering buying one.

The MP600 has a scanner (which I don't need, although it would provide me with a back-up) and it has several modern features of convenience which my i850 doesn't have. What I would especially like to know is whether or not the MP600 produces appreciably better results with both text and photos than my i850. Also, would it be faster and cheaper in the long run than the MP600? While quality of results is more important than anything else, speed, economy, and convenience also enter into the equation.

(I was also considering the Canon PIXMA iP6700D photo printer, but from what I've read so far it appears that the MP600 all-in-one is more highly-regarded.)

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has an opinon on this matter. Thank you very much.

Has anyone been able to get a Canon USB printer (MP530) to work if their system drive is anything other then C:\

Doing a complete re-format for a printer seems asinine.

I see the "USB port" file created in what would be the C:\ drive (C:\USB port), but the registry has no knowledge of it as that I would just move it to the system drive and edit the registry to point to it.

Any ideas other then the obvious of reformat/re-install?

A:Canon MP530 & system drive other then C:\

You'll find many programs demand there be a C drive, there's no way to re-assign the that drive letter without nasty registry hacks and they don't usually work anyway and sometimes end up corrupting the system and rendering it unbootable.

The trick to avoiding this is to disconnect any and all removable media drives from the computer prior to installing Windows.

I have two laptops and a desktop to which the laptops are wirelessly connected. All are running Vista 64 except the one laptop which is running Vista 32. The MP530 is USB connected to the desktop. I can print from the desktop just fine and, until a couple of days ago, I could print from both laptops. One laptop seems to trigger a failure of the driver to work on both the laptop and the desktop. If I restart the desktop the printer works fine until I try to print from the laptop. I have reinstalled the printer on the laptop and it prints a test page but nothing else. Any idea on how to cure this?

I recently bought the supposedly excellent Canon MP530 multi-function printer, etc. and went to install it on my WinXP pro machine and . . . nothing. I've spent some time with Canon tech support (some helpful, some not so helpful) but I still can't get the freakin' things to communicate with each other. The consistent result of my installations is "no driver is installed" or "cannot find driver" - even though the driver itself seems to install. Also, when I turn the printer on, I get the New Hardware Wizard, which, I think, means my computer is detecting the printer. It's as if the driver is just not recognized by my computer.
I've installed (and uninstalled) the drivers from both the disc that came with the printer and from the Canon website. I've used two different USB cables. I've tried many combinations of plugging/unplugging, starting/restarting, turning on/off - all to no avail.
I've logged on as the Administrator. I've done my best to shut down any programs or processes- though I think this is tricky, as I don't necessarily know what each thing in my Startup or Services is. I've even tried installing from SafeMode. I've tried using the New Hardware Wizard; I've tried ignoring the New Hardware Wizard. I've received a few error messages, but only when attempting the full installation from the disc. The messages are: "AddPrinterDriverEx Error:2", "AddPrinter Error:1797&... Read more

Is there a solution provided by Canon or anyone short of throwing away a nearly full yellow ink cartridge and installing a new one!

Let me start off by saying I did this to myself, I did not pay attention.

I rebuilt my system this week and this morning needed to scan something. So I pluged in my MP530 and downloaded the new driver for windows 7x64. I also grabbed the firmware "update" off their website. Here is the link.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...oadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=13371

So installed the drivers scanned the documents and printed out a few copies. Everything works fine. Then I remembered oh yeah that firmware update. I did read that if it was a specific model it would not be necessary, but I did not know the firmware version I was running figured it would say "Oh wait sorry but you don't need this." like most other firmware updates. So extraced the files and on I went ran the executable and set the install. Went out to lunch and forgot about it.

When I came back it had errored out, I looked in the to right corner only to then realize I was trying to upgrade from 1.10 to 1.08 and it was not compatible apparently. I figured old firmware is better than no firmware so I tried it again and of course failed again. At this point my printer is not responding at all and so I figured I'd have to call Canon to get the appropriate firmware. They proceed to tell me that they can not give it out. It's a private company firmware that they (Tech Support) can not access and yes it was a supervisors supervisor hat said this.

So what can I do ... Read more

Hi. I'm new here..wonder if someone can answer this. My Canon MP 530 all in one printer has a feed switch problem. When I flip the switch to the cassette so the paper prints out the bottom (instead of the top feed) even though the switch and light indicates it's in the proper position the paper will only print out from the top. I like to keep regular paper in the bottom and my shipping labels up top. Does anyone know what the problem could be or how to fix this. It was fine yesterday and just started oing this today. I've had my Canon Pixma MP600 for 4 years. It has always worked flawlessly. But I turned it on today, and it gave me a weird error message about some "incompatible device" being plugged in. There was nothing plugged into any port on it. I did a search and found where someone who had the same strange message said it was because of a stuck lever in the paper path, and the way to unstick it was to fold the top 1cm. of a heavy piece of paper, slide it in the back of the printer across the top rubber rollers with the folded 1cm facing up, then pull it out. Said I would feel resistance and a click when pulling it out, which I did.

So what did that do? It replaced the "incompatible device" error with a "paper jam" error. There is NO PAPER JAM!! I see from my search that this seems to be a common Canon printer problem going back to the low-number Pixmas, but I have not found a fix.

Anybody know what I need to do to fix this thing, other than taking it to a service depot and paying twice what a new one would cost to get it fixed?

About three hours ago I tried printing from Word to my Canon MP530, which has been working just fine since I switched from XP to Win7 in mid-December. I got an error saying that there were no drivers installed.

I tried the Windows Update method to reinstall them - that failed. I went to Canon's site and got the current x64 version of the driver. That supposedly installed, but when I try to print anything including the test page I see 'printer not responding' in the print queue window.

In the Devices & Printers window it tells me I need to troubleshoot it. Running the troubleshooter tells me there's nothing wrong with it.

I tried removing and reinstalling the printer with the same results, also trying the new drivers.

I just got the firmware upgrade from Canon and have installed that; that didn't help either. It still wants me to troubleshoot it, and that has the same results.

Please help me. I really need to get some work done today, and I really need my printer to be working.

If it just stopped working like that, do not discount the possiblity that it may be time for a new printer.

I hope this is the correct place to ask my question--none of the choices seemed to really fit printing problems, but here goes.

I don't print pictures with it often, but recently have noticed that printed photos come out with white horizontal lines all down the page, about 1/4 inch apart. I've tried 3 different papers, and the problem is the same with all of them. Any suggestions? I run Windows XP.

I use Canon Pixma printer with Windows 7. When I want to scan and e-mail the colours of my computer change radically. I cannot get a full picture reproduced either. Only part of it is reproduced. A:Canon Pixma

As regards not being able to reproduce a complete picture, try reducing the 'PPI' setting in your scanner software prior to scanning. Whilst 300 ppi is considered the optimum setting for photo scans which you intend to print, that's way too high for an email. Try scanning at 150 ppi or even 100 ppi if it's only for an email attachment.

The scanning time will then be much shorter and there will only be half as much data for the PC to cope with (compared to scanning at 300 ppi).

I updated my driver for this printer in order to use it with a new VISTA computer. In doing this, my XP laptop, can no longer use this printer. Is there a simple solution to this?

A:Canon pixma MP 780

Updating drivers usually doesn't affect the hardware itself. Its strange that it simply stopped working because you installed vista drivers on another computer. My Pixma was simply a plug-and-play from my vista desktop to my XP laptop.

Can you provide more detail? Does the computer detect the printer but it simply doesn't print? Or is the printer undetected completely? Maybe you could try uninstalling then installing new drivers for it.

This is an extremely basic question ...

I only turn my printer on when I need to use it, which is not too often. By chance, I happened to look at Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Disk Drives while it was connected, and I was quite astonished to see the following entry:

Canon MP600Storage USB Device

followed by all my regular HDs (3 in all).

Is this normal under VISTA? I ask as I have some problems with certain USB-attached devices, and am trying to isolate the problem.

Thanks in advance.

When adding printer wirelessly to Win 7 pc the windows update cannot find any drivers for this model and yet it does when running through a USB connection!
Can anyone tell me where on the Win 7 pc I can locate the drivers that were installed when printer was connected via USB or how to get around this problem? Drivers that can be downloaded from internet seem not to have an INF extension which Win 7 requires for installation.

May be being dense but can you tell me what I should be doing?

I have a Canon Pixma mp280 printer that I've used for a few years. Suddenly, when I go to print something from my computer, it doesn't even show my printer as a printer option. I can't find the hardware for my printer. It still scans and prints that way, just not from computer. Help.

A:Canon Pixma mp280

Uninstall the Canon software/drivers, reboot, and perform a fresh install following the Canon process.

You can use the install CD provided with the printer, or the better option would be to get the latest driver package from Canon.

Windows Xp

I have used my Canon MP500 for two years. It prints OK but it won't scan. About 18 months ago it completely disappeared from my computer. I tried to take the computer back to a date when it worked but it wouldn't allow me to do so. After reloading it twice it finally worked again. Now it has disappeared again. When I find Omnipage the message comes up "The parameter is incorrect"
Why does it suddenly disappear? I can't think I have done anything to make it do so.

Bought a Canon MP 750 on Wednesday. Seems to print well, but not happy with the results of walk up copy and also scan to computer/print.

Original printing from the computer, print alignment, print nozzle checks etc are all OK. It seems there is a problem with the scanning - copies come out significantly less colour intense, at times with bits even missing from the copy.

Rang Canon for support and returned machine to store on Friday & got a second one. It seems to fare no better.

At this stage I will be ringing Canon again on Monday - but in the meantime I'm interested to hear from anyone else with this machine.

Can anyone tell me what happens when you select the copy button, and then "colour"? Do you get the following message:

Colour copying......

or do you get

Scanning.....

followed by a request for the next page or to click OK to exit?
This then followed by

Colour copying....

as above?

The reason I ask is that on the first machine we only ever got "colour copying" followed by the scan and the print out.

On the second machine, the first two times we did a copy it gave us the scan message on the display first, followed by the copy message. However from the third copy on it has always only ever been "colour copying...."

If I use the software to scan into the computer I can set different scanning resolutions....but when I print out I don't see any marked improvement.

The above was using the image quality "normal&q... Read more

I recently bought this Canon product and it worked very well for about 6-7 months, but when we came back from vacation the black color faded and and gradualy disappeared.
I took the cartridges and the print head to the guys that refilled my cartridges (no problem here only second refill no leaks or dryed ink problems) and they told me that the printer head was clogged and that the pump that was responsible for the cleanining and deep cleaning funtions was not powerfull enough to unclog the head.
They unclogged the print head and it worked fine for the next 4-5 pages. By the 6t page black vanished again. I took the printer head back to the guys and they told me that it doesent have a problem .

So one out of two:

1. It's indeed clogged and i need to know what i can do to unclog it
2. The printer head is uncloged .... and i don't have a clue what i'm supposed to do now except posting on forums .

Thanks in advance.

A:Canon Pixma MP520 Problem

The print heads on the 520 are odd ones, if not unique for this type of machine from Canon - most of the other #8 based machines have the Black #8 in them as well - the MP520 doesn't, and uses that large #5, which is meant for text printing as its black - this is not the normal photo ink, which the #8s have in them, and is a bit thicker than the other colors (including the #8 Black). This means that it will clog a bit more often, including deeper clots between the actual head and the cartridge. What the refillers are using are flow sensors, which only detect if the ink is moving through the assembly, not if they are impeeded, and do so with a bit more pressure than what the printer normally generates.

What does all this mean? Well, here's what I would do...

1 - Using 409 or Fantastik (NO WINDEX) and a Q-Tip, I would clean all electrical contacts between the print head assembly and the printer (all those spots on the face of the print head, and all the little wire contacts inside the machine) to make sure no ink overspray is causing faulty print quality.

2 - Ye Old Desert Dish Trick - Take a desert dish and put a layer of 409 or Fantastik on it, and lay the PRINT HEADS into it (DO NOT SUBMERGE THE ASSEMBLY INTO THE 409 or FANTASTIK - only the print heads on the bottom) While it sits, make sure you keep the ink cartridges sitting in their respective slots, as you don't want the top of the print heads drying either. Come back an hour or so later and scrub the h... Read more

I just installed new color and black and white ink cartridges and now all of my emails and internet print jobs are printing in a light blue - documents in Word print fine in black and white. The nozzle check printout only showed light blue and black. Does this mean that my ink cartridges are faulty? It was working fine prior to replacing both cartridges. Thanks.

A:Canon Pixma MX330 Problem

If you perform a test print, you should get a quality check of each color (ie: red/yellow/blue and black or magenta/yellow/cyan and black). If you aren't getting a proper test print, the ink is low/empty or the print head is clogged). There should be cleaning and deep cleaning options in the printer options. You can attempt cleaning until the test print is correct.

I have just purchased a mp620 and have been trying to install it for the past 2 hours!!!

First I let win7 try to detect it, but it could not print out a test page due to "printer not responding" error on the print queue. I tried to trouble shoot, but this was pointless.

So then I tried to install with the supplied CD. this was even worse. I could not get past the printer detection phase - the printer was switched on, and the usb was plugged in, but it could not detect.

I tried swapping it out with a different usb cable to make sure it wasn't the cable, but still nothing.

I then tried to install the latest mp drivers from the canon website, rebooted, but still nothing.

does anyone, and i mean ANYONE, have any ideas what i can do?!?

Hi folks,

This is driving me nuts: Back in the fall when I switched over to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from Vista Home Premium SP2 x64, I installed the software for my Canon Pixma MX700 multifunctional printer. I used the original Vista driver installer disc, and despite an warning message about a "known compatibility issue" the printer and scanning functions worked fine. I use the Pixma on the LAN via a wired ethernet connection. Worked fine for occasional scanning in November, December, and January.

Then for months I had no need to scan anything, just printing over the network with no problems.

Last weekend I needed to scan something. I usually just push the scan button on the printer, verify the computer it's going to scan to (it lists them), and away it goes. This time my computer threw an error about the scanner driver saying the scanner wasn't on the network. Huh? If the scanner's not on the network how did the computer know it was trying to send a scan... So I bailed on that and instead used the MP Navigator EX software on the computer. It failed too, giving the "scanner not connected" error, either using Navigator's direct interface or telling it to open the scanner driver which brings up a slightly different interface (when it worked).

First I went to the Canon site and d/l'ed all the latest drivers for 7 x64 and installed them. Still get the same errors.

Tried setting it up to scan via USB temporary connection. If I install it that way... Read more

A:Can't scan with Canon Pixma MX700

I had this problem too & I also have a MX 700. I didn't have quite the probs your having, but when I went to scan something, it would just sit there doing nothing.

The way I found after playing around with it was like this:

I had to go to Start/Devices and Printers.

I R clicked on the printer/scanner and clicked "Start Scan".

Once I did that, it worked for me. You'll get a window with all the options for scanning. For some reason Windows took over the scan feature, but it works, so I'm happy.

Mine is hooked up via USB also, but I'm not on a x64. Driver prob maybe?

Anyway, that's how I got mine to scan, I hope it helps.

My Canon Pixma MP series printer is not working.

When I turn it on, it makes a shuddering noise and then flashes the codes E 3 on the display. It makes the same sound then when I turn it off.

Writing to Canon, they thought it was a paper jam which is more or less impossible as there is no paper in the machine. Then they advised to disconnect the printer from the power supply to reset it. This hasn't worked. Their final suggestion is that there is a hardware fault. However, as there is only one service centre in the UK, by the time I can get it fixed (even though it is under warranty), it would certainly cost quite a bit in postage...

I've been advised by others to try cleaning the chrome bar which I have done now and to try and force a bit of thick paper through to clear out any remnants which may be in there. I'm not sure how I would accomplish this as there is no form feed button and it has never been easy to make it grab the paper anyway...

I've since been made aware that these phantom paper jams seem to be a common problem with Canon Pixmas... I heard someone could fix them by removing and replacing the paper tray which would be easier if I had a front-loading machine.

Any advice which will save me buying another printer would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, i'm having problems with getting my scanner/printer to do anything. To begin with whenever i turned it on the LCD always said

"Printer error has occured. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists see the manual"

and so i turn it off and the message only reappears, it seems to not be able to load properly.

I did get it to load once or twice, (how it hapenned is beside me) and successfully printed something off, but on attempting a scan the same message came up midscan. Now i'm back to square one, with only ever seeing the error message all the time and the printer/scanner giving me no options and not loading properly.

Does anybody have any good advice?

the driver discs also told me that the driver cant install properly either, am i likely to have these problems if my laptop only has Windows XP? Also, for some reason i think it only loads properly if it's been left off for hours, why is this?

you may not be able to
if you look at the printer properties and all the settings in the driver - look to see if there is a black only option - if not then it wont
I have tried this on a few printers for people and not found the setting - and the printer for black uses the colour ink

Your print head has likely failed. Thats the piece thats under the cartridges and it is removal to be cleaned or replaced. Instructions for manually cleaning the printhead can be found here: http://www.inkjetoasis.ca/io_help.asp

To order a new print head you can call Canon @ 1-800-OK CANON, I think its about $70 but if you like the printer then its worth it since most new Canon's use considerable more expensive cartridges because they have the print head built into the cartridge.

Has anyone ever run into this crazy problem? I have a Canon Pixma 4300 that I got bundled with my MacBook pro. It's been sitting on my desk inert ever since. I cannot get it to print anything, anytime. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers at least twice, reset the printer... I don't think it's a communication error because my laptop sees the printer, can check the ink, etc. Once I reinstall the drivers I can always print a test page exactly once, then never again. I get no error messages. Nothing.

Opening the print queue box it shows what ever job I'm attempting to print as "printing" but the printer never actually prints anything. If I pull the plug on the printer with a job in the queue I get a "can't communicate with printer" message, which tells me communication isn't the issue.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on a 2007 MacBook pro. I know it's not my laptop since I've never had any problem with any other printer, including a PIXMA Pro 9000.

I'm thinking there's something either super easy to fix or that this printer is just a lemon that needs to go in the trash. Canon has been very unhelpful. Every once in a while I'll dust this thing off and try to make it work. Is it time to give up?

My Canon PIXMA MX700 Printer isn't functioning as a network printer. During installation of it as a network printer, what it does is say "Communicating with printer." for a while and
then it says "The printer in the network could not be detected
automatically. Set the IP address of the printer to be connected." And no
matter what I select it starts over with "Communicating with printer." I corresponded with Canon via email, but in the end they just said to call their technical support. The printer is wired into the modem and plugged into the computer via USB, so I don't get the problem.

A:Canon PIXMA MX700 Printer

On my Canon MX870 I use the wireless connection but there is also an eithernet port. I believe what you are seeing is the wireless wizard attempting to connect wirelessly to the printer.

If you are using the wired or wireless connection you should not need to use the USB connection on the printer. Perhaps this has something to do with the problem?

Does the printer show up on the Windows 7 network map? Does it show as being connected in the routers settings?

With kind Regards Keld Winther

Someone seems to have left Canon out of the dev loop for Win 10 drivers. Does anyone know of a workaround, or should I just set up a corporate account with Kinko's? I currently cannot print to paper, and sometimes I need to.

Also, please check out my new book, "Your Body Is Not Your Enemy," written by ex-MSFT turned nutritional therapist!

OK, sorted it out for myself through an unrelated post here. If you download the 8.1 drivers and run them in Compatibility Mode, it's all good!

As the subject suggests I have a problem with the Canon MP130 printer. Well not actually the printer itself but the built-in card reader. For a while I have had a long pause during startup, also a "USB mass storage device" lost it's driver. I thought it may be due to crap on the computer so I formatted and reloaded Windows XP, but alas to no avail. I then searched google and found the microsoft article "Long Pause During Windows Startup Process". So I thought can't do much. Then I found in the hardware profile the entry under the failed usb device "USB\04a9" this turned up results in google to some printer components. I tried changing USB ports on the computer but no good. I then disconnected the USB Printer from the computer, and "voila" the computer started fine and no "USB Mass storage device" error. I do not use the printers card reader so is there anyway to disable the reader.

It sounds as if the boot sequence in bios has "boot from usb " before the hard drive and is trying to boot from the card reader
Go into bios and change the boot order to hard drive first, remember to save the settings when you exit

I have a Canon Pixma ip4300. I replaced the 5 PGBK (the large non-photo black) cartridge and I went to print. A piece of paper got jammed, so I pulled that out and since then, that brand new cartridge will not work, meaning that the other cartridges print fine, but if I print in greyscale, nothing appears on the page. I've tried running the cleaning utilities and I just replaced the cartridge again, but it's still not working. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong? Thanks!

I have a canon pixma mp780, 5 years old, wonderful machine. never a problem. today i am getting a message "wrong cartridge". the red alarm light is also flashing, and the warning tone sounds. this happened when i tried to print a document from the computer. i received a fax into memory and it will not print. (it went into memory because it would not print. i have it set to print all incoming faxes. now, several hours later the error message is gone, but the light continues to flash and the warning tone continues. i tried several times to reset the 2 black cartridges, (there are no color cartridges in, nor have there been any for sometime). i have printed and received faxes recently. i also turned the surge plug strip off, no change. can any one offer any help with this?? thanx for your reply.

Can anyone who owns either this model, or a similar one, help me with interpreting the keyboard? I previously owned an HP T-65 (all-in-one) which was relatively easy to setup for FAXing. I use a Sprint calling card for long distance and, with my HP, I was able to store the 800 number on "1", my calling card number on "2", and frequently called parties on 3 thru 10. So, when I wanted to send a FAX I merely clicked on "1", waited for the operator to respond, then clicked on "2" to enter my calling card number, and then "3", "4", "5" or... depending on which of the parties I wished to contact. I have just acquired this new printer and wish to set it up likewise but haven't figured out how to do it and the instructions aren't too helpful to me. Hope someone can simplify it for me! TIA.

I have a Canon Pixma MP210. So, I always print in black & white b/c I just print out documents. I've had an old, empty color ink cartridge sitting in there, though. Today I took the empty black cartridge out to recycle at Staples, as I was going to buy a new one. I got the bright idea to also take out the empty color cartridge, so that I could get that recycling credit, too. Well, now it will not print without a color cartridge, even an empty one, installed. It says: "The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized. Printing cannot be executed b/c the ink cartridge may not be propertly installed, blah blah blah." Is there any way to bypass this??? I don't want to have to buy a new color cartridge, as I won't even use it! I am willing to try any kind of hack. I need to print work documents. Help, please!!!

A:How to print without a color cartridge- Canon Pixma?

Sorry, you will actually need a cartridge to fill the slot. That's true for virtually all printers today.

The Cyan color on my printer is creating bands about 1/4" wide on both plain and photo paper. I have done repeated cleanings and alignments using tools in the software. Canon support will not answer my questions. How do I clean (I am assuming that is the problem) the nozzles/head of this kind of printer? It is 2 1/2 years old and I'd sure like to no have to buy a new one.

At first, I used the installation CD (which used to set up the Canon printer with Windows XP). I failed because it is not compatible with my new computer with Windows 7, 64-bit. Then I downloaded an add-on from this page:
Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : PIXMA iP2000

I still failed. I went to Devices and Printer> Add Printer, but could not find PIXMA iP2000 in the list even after Windows Update. I can't choose the Have Disk function as the CD is incompatible. Canon just replied "Canon does not handle the
driver anymore Microsoft does under Windows 7". Really? What should I do? My printer still works very well and I don't want to dump it. I am also not confident of buying a new printer as such a problem may appear again. Help!!!

A:Canon PIXMA iP2000 -setup failure

The add-on should only be installed AFTER installing the driver via Windows Update.
The printer must be fully connected and turned on for Windows Update to detect it, otherwise no driver will be offered.

I connected my Canon printer, turned it on, and enabled Automatic Updates. The driver was in the list of available updates from Microsoft. After installing that, plus the add-on from Canon, printer works fine.

I just got this Canon pixma mp620 printer used and put new ink cartridges in the printer. The printer starts up ok and starts to do it's start up routine but never completes the routine. The cartridge/head assembly slams into the left stop with a loud thud and a grinding of gears. Then the assembly just sits there and an error message of 5100 pops up on the screen. Can this printer be fixed? Or did I just wast money on a piece of junk.

A:i keep getting an error message on a canon pixma mp620

It shouldn't "slam" to the left. I'd say a sensor is bad or it's out of alignment. I don't know if it can be fixed or not. Printers now are throwaway items. You can replace it cheaper than you can get someone to look at it. Manufacturers don't even perform repairs when it's under warranty, they simply replace it...as it's cheaper.
