HP Laserjet 4L printed with Vista, not with Win7

Q: HP Laserjet 4L printed with Vista, not with Win7

I bought a parallel to usb printer cable to make my HP Laserjet 4L to work on my Vista dell laptop and it worked. Then I upgraded to Win 7 64 bit. Now it won't work. It sees it, installs fine, just won't print. no errors. Can it be a "cable driver" (never heard of such a thing until I started researching this problem) if it worked with Vista? It's a no-name cable, so won't likely have a driver that I can find.

Is there anything I can do but replace the cable?

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, “The record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?”

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.
Thanks,
Hash

could't you just add a field in the record for printed?

Then if printeed true, show warning, else show printable form.

Hey guys!

My father brought me an old HP LaserJet 6L Pro printer. At his workplace they used it with XP. At HP's website I couldn't find any driver for it, only for Win ME, not even XP. I tried using XP mode on win7 without succes. At least the XP has defeault settings for Laserjet 6L when I tried adding the printer manually. Only I couldn't choose the port. For some reason 7 doesn't have the drivers anymore, guess it's a nice buisness step.

Could you help me? I can't think any smart solution. The printer is hooked to the PC via an LPT1 to USB cable.
LPT1 to LPT1 is not an option, mobo too modern. I see the printer in Device Manager under Other Devices with a question mark on it's icon.

A:Can't make HP Laserjet 6L Pro working on Win7

Ok, after the long search I found a solution, maybe someone will have this problem in the future.

Go to Control panel, click devices and printers. There click Add printer --> Local --> Choose USB port 001 --> Choose The HP LaserJet 3055 and it's working. I think they may have the same drivers. The point it's funcioning. Sorry for any grammar mistake, or bad menu names, I'm hungarian and I also use use hungarian windows, so I can only guess the menu names.

After many unsuccessful attempts to get this printer installed and shared with other Vista and/or Windows 7 machines on the network, I finally worked out a procedure that works reliably. Since I couldn?t find this info all in one place anywhere else, I thought I?d share.

Get rid of old unsuccessful installation attempts to install the drivers: Open Print Managment (type ?print managment? in the ?search for programs and files? box on the start menu). Right click any instance of HP 1020 drivers and click ?Remove Driver Package?. If it says that the printer is in use and can?t be deleted, restart your computer and then try again.
Download the Vista x64 drivers from: Select software and drivers*
From the two available choices, use the Print Driver Package, not the Plug and Play Package.
Make sure the printer is NOT CONNECTED. Run the driver installation program, making note of the folder to which it installs the files (usually ?C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Laserjet 1020_1022 drivers?)
Connect the printer. Windows 7 should detect the printer but then claim that it was NOT installed successfully.
At this point, the HP 1020 should show up as a device in the ?Devices and Printers? window. Right click on it, and go to properties.
On the General tab, click ?Make changes? (or whatever the button near the bottom says? I can?t recreate it once the printer is installed prope... Read more

I have a HP color laserjet 2840 that I use with my WinXP pc before, it scanned and print all the document and images that I needed to do so. Since my son gave me another pc with Win7 64bit, I search through google and can print only, but I can't scan anything. Would anyone please help me how to solve this problem, I have a lot of pix to be scanned but I am in the dark how to now.... Thank you and appreciate it very much.

A:HP color laserjet 2840 can't scan with Win7

Hi,

Have you gone on the HP website and downloaded the drivers that support Windows 7? I just located it, and I noticed the fax and scan feature driver was a separate download. When I clicked on it, it says:

Use the scan and fax software available in Windows 7 when full software functionality is not available through the print driver. For more information, go to support document Use the software in Windows 7 to fax and scan:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c02539136

So basically when full software functionality is not available through the product driver, you have to use the Windows Fax and Scan feature available in Windows 7 when your device is connected via USB.

I read the suggestions in the Drivers forum a long time ago and felt technically unable to go ahead with any (instead I added an HP OfficeJet). I wasn't sure if they were talking about just printing to an HP 4+, or if any addressed my problem, or if it mattered.

My HP Laserjet 4+ is connected to my XP desktop computer. I want to be able to also use it to print from my Windows 7 laptop.

One of the suggestions involved using a Sabrent SBT-UPPC (parallel cable?). It didn't explain how to use it (from where to where). There are two cables connected to my LaserJet 4+. One goes to the back of my XP desktop. The other goes to a surge protector. I don't know if it matters, but there's also a Netgear router involved.

I would like now to get the Sabrent cable ($40 in-store at Staples, $10-$12 online at Walmart and BestBuy !?!). From where to where should it be connected?

A:Win7 laptop/print to XP-connected Laserjet 4+

I went to Staples and was told by the technician that I didn't need a new cable. He said that what stvdot and vent were talking about was simply getting Windows 7 to work with a Laserjet 4+ printer. He said the only way that I could get my Windows 7 laptop to print on the old printer was to 1) connect directly to it, or 2) enable printer sharing.

I have an HP Laserjet 1320 connected to a Mac. I'm trying to get it working under Win7 x64, but HP seems to be playing with the Windows 7 drivers for this printer. Yesterday, there was a link for Win7 x64 drivers on this page:

HP LaserJet 1320 Printer series*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

But clicking on the link got you a "File not found" error. Today, there's no link at all.

In the past, I was able to get this printer working with a generic Postscript driver (Apple Laserwriter 600 PS) under XP 64-bit. However, I've tried a couple of other basic Postscript drivers (Lexmark and HP), but can't seem to get the printer to print anything more complicated than a test page. When printing to the shared printer with a non-specific Postscript driver, the output just vanishes (except the test page, which came out OK with the Lexmark, but not HP driver).

Does anyone know of a basic Postscript driver that will work with CUPS (the Mac printing system?) Or better yet, have a link to a 1320 Postscript driver? I'm pretty sure the PCL driver won't work with CUPS...

I'm using the Bonjour printing software from Apple to find and setup the printer.

Thanks...

You could try the vista 64 bit driver whie you wait for another driver - never know it might work - we were doing this all the time with the beta versions of windows for multiple devices with a good percentage of success. If the driver wont install normally and produces an error do the following :

To install a driver/program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Hi all,

I am connecting a laptop running Win7 64bits to a HP printer LaserJet 2100 on a Win NT server through workgroup network. Here are my problems.

1) Problem when connecting Wireless to the network
--All other computers (running XP & 98s) are connected through hub to router to the server.
--This laptop is the only one connecting wirelessly right now.
--Laptop can not see any computers in the same network However can connect Online.(since can't see other computers thus can't connect to printers.)

Q: how can I make them see/connect to each other?

2) Problem when connecting via LAN to the network
--Laptop now can see all the computers in the network and can access the files
--However when trying to ADD Printer from network still unsuccessful. Here is what I did:

Device & Settings --> ADD Printer --> ADD a network printer --> (found the printer on network and clicked on NEXT) >> Driver Not Found

Then I tried to locate the driver manually to the driver downloaded from HP's site which updated recently in Dec. Here is the link still can not find the right .INF file to install.

It seems the Laptop doesn't know what exact .INF file it is looking for and thus failed to install.

Q: How to Connecting Win7 to HP LaserJet 2100 on Win NT ?

Any reply/answers to both Scenarios would be greatly appreciated. (this issue troubled me for a while now would really like to have some solution) Thanks for reading.

Hello, Thegirlinred, Welcome to SevenForums
I have seen some success by hooking the printer up to the pc and then installing the driver. If this is not available to you you can try to run the compatibility mode tutorial in your downloaded driver .exe file. Good luck to you with this problem.

I've got a laptop setup for QUAD BOOT with XP Home, XP Pro, Vista and Win7 build 7000.

Can anyone tell me how to, or point me to a guide that shows how to, remove the quad boot and go back to just the XP bootloader? I want to eliminate the Vista and Win7 loads from this machine.

Thanks so much in advance!

(By the way, I tried googling, just couldn't seem to come up with the right keywords for the search!)

A:XPHome/XPPro/Vista/Win7 Quad boot - how to remove Vista and Win7?

Easiest way is backup and reinstall. You would have to edit the boot.ini file and remove the partitions manually. If they are primary, you probably won't see them.

First backup.

Boot into Each operating system and change the C: label to XPPro_C, Vista_C, Win7_C, and XPHome_C. This way you can tell the OS partitions apart. In XPHome_C, login as administrator. Go into Disk Management and see if you can see all four partitions. Then, you can delete Vista and Win7. In boot.ini in the XPHome_C drive should be boot.ini. It might be hidden, you could just edit out the two OS. It should work. It could crash. So backup first.

My reliable HP LaserJet 5P worked fine through a parallel-to-USB cable, until I accepted SP2 for my Windows Vista Home Edition OS. I bought a PCI 1P board by SIIG, Inc., via newegg.com. Newegg will refund only half of the not-cheap purchase cost, $45.98 w/ shipping, if the board doesn't work, so I called SIIG for assurance, yesterday. After spending sixty cell phone minutes on hold, with very frequent suspenseful indications of answering, a competent technician finally talked with me. His only advice was to open the box, accepting the risk of twenty bucks, and try the board.

I successfully installed the parallel board.

Restart, or something did the job.

I wish I could just delete this post. Other, expired threads, did not reassure me I could solve the problem, however. Perhaps someone will benefit from my circus.

I am new to this forum. I am sorry if I have posted this question in the wrong place.

Hello! My mum has an HP Laserjet 1160. She has been using the printer with no problems with her PC that was on Windows XP. Last week she purchased a new PC. The new PC is on Vista. We have hooked up the Laserjet to the new PC. When I look at the Control Panel > Printers, the printer is listed but when I try to print a test page, it does not print. I have watched the print queue as it tries to print the test page and I can see that in the queue, it spools, prints (but doesn't actually print) and then deletes from the queue. I have tried deleting the printer and adding it again. I have tried downloading the drivers from the HP website. I downloaded the 1160 driver and then I downloaded the HP LaserJet 1160 PCL5e Driver - I wasn't exactly sure what that was meant to do but it seemed like a good idea. I am really stuck now. Please help! Any ideas or advice will be VERY much appreciated. Thank you! Susannah

My LaserJet HP IIP was connected to a new Dell w/ Vista in June using a Parrallel to USB cable. Vista found the printer & I installed the Drive rfound in Vista. It worked fine from June '08 to Oct' 08. The printer no longer prints from the PC but prints self-test internally pages. Printer shows no error msgs in the it's display but the PC printer que it says 'error.' Hp says I'm supported by the driver they placed in Vista. Dell has tried to make it work but failed. I took the printer to my old Sony w/ XP and using a LTP port and Parrallel cable it works fine. But when I use a Parrallel to USB cable, it acts as on the Dell-Vista. Changing to a new Parrallel to USB cable does not fix the problem. What should I do?

I have a new Dell XPS Studio computer desktop running Windows Vista Premium Home edition service pack 2. I have an old HP Laserjet 5P parallel port printer. There is no parallel port on the desktop. With a USB cable and parallel port connection on the other end, the computer recognizes the HP printer. But nothing prints: no docs; no test page. HP says that Vista includes the driver for the Laserjet 5p and that no "legacy drivers" will be available on their website.

So: any suggestions for getting the printer to work? Or, alternatively: would you like to buy a used but sturdy and completely reliable Laserjet 5p?

Unfortunately the Parallel-USB adapters are notoriously problematic. I have never had any success trying to use one. I found it much easier to buy a printer that is natively USB.

You can puchase a PCI IO card that wuold put a Parallel port on your computer, here is a whole group of 'em. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...073 1187112435&name=PCI to Parallel Port Card

I have a vetran laserjet 4L that worked well until I connected it to my Toshiba 32 bit laptop running Windows Vista. The printer powers up and successfully prints a self test page. It is connected via a vista compliant Cables to Go usb to parrallel port cable. I have the properties set to "usb port" and "enable bidirectional support" is unchecked (I have tried it both ways). I have gone to the HP website to update the driver, but they say the driver is included in Vista, so that is the driver I have installed. I have tried deleting the printer, shutting down, reconnecting the printer and rebooting. I have also tried installing the printer manually. The printer is detected and shows up in Vista, but when I try to print, I get an error and nothing prints. It is apparent from the research I have done that this is a known problem. Neither HP or Microsoft seem to support the issue. HP wants me to buy a new printer and MS wants me to upgrade to Windows 7. Someone must know how to solve this problem without resorting to that extreme. Please help.

Ok here is what HP just told me regarding the full MFP functionality on Vista.

Reading your e-mail, we understand that you wish to know about the available drivers for HP LaserJet 3330 All-in-One on windows vista operating system.

James, please be inform you that the full printing software of HP LaserJet 3330 All-in-One is not available for the Windows Vista.Hence you will not able to scan from the printer. HP expects to complete the certification process for applicable software very soon.

Please use Microsoft windows XP as if now. You may also login to www.hp.com to register where you can create an account to get online alerts. If any of the software is uploaded then you will be able to get the notification.

However, If you wish to install the printer driver for printing then you may use native driver for printing which will be automatically installed while installing the vista operating system.

Please follow the steps to install the native driver for the printer :

1. Click the Start icon, click Control Panel, click Hardware & Sounds, and then click Printers.
2. Click Add a printer.
3. Click Add a local printer.
4. Select the Use an existing port check box.
5. In the Use an existing port drop-down list, select DOT4/ USB (Printer Port) and then click Next.

Hi All!

My configuration:
Notebook with Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1 installed
Multifunctional device: HP LaserJet CM1017 MFP connected to local ethernet network

I have downloaded from HP website drivers for HP CM1017 and Vista 64x.
During the installation process the system is successfuly finding the device in the local network, but after acceptation the printer it spends a long time for "connecting the device" and next displays the message about communication problem.

I have blocked or even uninstalled all firewalls, antiviruses, user account control and even changed regional settings - without success for printing driver.

I have tried also the universal printer driver HP PCL6 downloaded from HP webpage dedicated for my printer.
After installation (universal driver):
- in standard printer mode - it gives a message that the device is not in service by this driver;
- in dynamic printer mode - it is finding the printer correctly but after printing command from laptop the printer shuts down and up (restart).

I have checked the printer (restarted, going back to standard settings etc.) and it works correctly - it is printing from other computers in my network without problems.

Help me please, I do not have idea to fix the problem.
I spent in fight with Vista and printer over 25 hours already....

Greetings,
Tom

Just a message about a networked HP 4M+ that all of a sudden wouldn't print from 2 wireless connected laptops and one etherlink connected desktop, all running Vista Home Premium 32bit, SP2. Computers running XP continued to print. All the Vista computers came up with error messages that said the printer wasn't connected, but could ping the IP address of the printer. After trying many different suggested fixes, including removing and re-installing the drivers, I re-checked the configuration on the printer itself, and although the IP address and mask were OK, the gateway address was 192.168.1.100 instead of 192.168.1.1 as it is on my network. I changed the gateway address to the correct one, and all three Vista machines now print. Don't know why the XP still worked, or why the Vista machines all quit at the same time (probably an update). HP and Microsoft were no help at all. Just something else to check if you're having a similar problem.

Hello,

I am trying to install this printer (HP Laserjet P2015d) on my Vista 64 machine. It works fine on my XP Pro machine. HP has posted drivers for this OS/printer configuration (HP LaserJet P2015 Printer series*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center).

However, the installation programs does not work. The installation program does not seem to recognize the printer even when the printer is connected and turned on. Ironically the device (occasionally) shows up on the Vista Device manager panel, but not on the printer panel. The installation instruction mentions that the new hardware wizard should pop up on connecting, but it does not.

I contacted HP support (a nightmarish labyrinth of automated messages). After negotiating through this maize for more than 15 minutes, I finally reach a human. Guess what? They want money to fix their own problem! It is hardly a year old.

Any one of the gurus on this forum can help fix this?

Thanks,

A:Installing HP Laserjet P2015d on Vista 64

Is the printer plugged into a USB port? If so, unplug it then plug it back in, when/if you get the new hardware found box asking you for drivers, ignore it, then run the drivers you downloaded for vista and run them. The drivers "should" then be picked up. Reboot and see if it works.

The other thing you might want to do is see if there are any special instructions for installing the drivers, even if this means lookng at the printer's manual. i.e does the printer need to be on or off, stuff like that.

Hello Everyone,

I have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) installed in my Dell Laptop. The OS is upto date with all updates. I have HP laserjet 1020 plus printer but I lost the installation CD. So I downloaded the driver from HP website for Vista 32-bit.

Now I install the driver and then plug in the printer. The installation says "Successful". Now I have the printer added in the printer panel and it says Ready.
All fine so far.

But when I print a test page nothing is printed. (I have checked stuff like printer is on, paper is there and all is connected)

And in the printer window which shows number of pages and name of document etc there is nothing. If I goto a program like wordpad and print something then there is no error but printer is not printing anything. In the window which shows printer spooled docs there is no item. The print spooler service is running fine.

I dunno whats happening. Can anyone help me out.

Thanks,

Seems like the communication between the device and the computer is lost after a few scans have been done. Then either have to de-install and re-install software (hp_CLJ_2820-2840_Vista_Full_Solution) or re-start computer/device (may function). Then the scanner may function for a few scans (like 4-6). Anyone having any knowledge about this situation and what can be done to make the sanning function be stable.
Appreciate any ideas on this matter.

With 32bit Vista Ultimate, the HP Color Laserjet 3500 printer worked fine. I just upgraded to Windows 7 and when I plugged the printer cable into the computer it started to download drivers, etc... After it was all set, I went to print. It goes into the print Que and just sits...almost like it is not being pushed to the printer. I uninstalled & reinstalled...also tried to run compatibility mode but to no avail.

Is this model not compatible with 7?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Garret

Suggest you download "DriverMax" and let it find the driver for you. That is a really awesome program if you want to keep your drivers up to date without a lot of fuss.

I'm helping a friend out with a HP Color LaserJet 2800 All-in-One Printer which they cannot get working on vista, or the scanner working

I'm calling them later today at 18:00 UK time (this post was submitted at 12:00)

the info I have so far
They had the all-in-1 on an XP machine, but needed some help from HP support to get it working correctly, this was some time ago, she cannot remember what was done.

Now they have upgraded to Vista and they cannot get the Vista driver to instal - as it installs it asks for the printer to be plugged in and then hangs and eventually provides a message that the installation failed.

My Plan is as follows: - (Any advice, additions/changes to below please let me know)

1) Uninstall the software from programs and features
2) remove the printer

I guess I want to remove any Printer information that may be left over from the XP version before upgrade (I dont know how they upgraded)
Also, I know HP does not like the printer to be plugged in before install, so this may be the problem too.
is there something like norton uninstaller for printers ?

as requested any further help would be appreciated

I have a Gateway computer running Vista-the background on everything printed on the HP 2600n was coming out gray. I got that issue whipped after switching to an HP 1600. When I switched back to the HP2600n I could not add the printer/driver. I tried the drivers for it on the HP website. No change. Now when I turn the computer on, after it fires up I get a message asking if I want to install the driver. It searches for the driver and when I choose a driver to install (it comes up with a choise of 2-tried both) it sends back a message that it can't install the driver, there was a problem and that the Spooler Service has stopped. When I go in to restart the spooler service, I find that it is running (restarted automatic-ly or never stopped? Anyone else had this problem with HP printer & Vista? This is my desktop computer at work and I use my printer all the time (used to, anyways)

Follow these instructions to connect your HP Laserjet 4 and Laserjet 5M printers to your computer if you are running Windows 10.

--press the Windows icon in the lower left corner

--select "settings"
--select "devices"
--select "add printers & scanners"
--select "add a printer"
-- it probably will scan and deliver a message like "printer ----- isn't listed"
--click on that message
--scroll down to "add a local printer"
--accept "use existing port" then scroll down and select USB001(virtual port for USB)
--it is possible that if you are using the original cable that the default LPT1 is the correct choice.
--that will lead to the same list of printer drivers that you would have had with Win 7 (my understanding, or misunderstanding, is that when Win 10 loaded it retained the Win 7 printer drivers, but did not make them particularly accessible.
--select your printer
--print a test page
--all done
--you may need to make that your default printer

Hello all,

I have a vaio laptop with a dual boot win7/vista setup. I simply want to format the whole drive back to one large c:\drive, then reinstall windows 7. I have heard horror stories of people saying their boot manager becomes corrupted. or goes missing. I enclose a snapshot of my hard drive config. I would appreciate any advice on this matter.

Thanks

A:A fresh win7 install over a win7/vista dual boot system ?

is it the only HDD in the laptop (i used to think 1 was the max but i've been encountering people with two recently)? If so, (and if you want to wipe the hard drive completely (don't forget to deactivate any programs, such as iTunes)) just put the install disc in, boot into it (without booting into windows), choose the install option that isn't 'upgrade' (i think it's 'custom' offhand). when it takes you to the partition manager, click 'advanced' on the bottom bit and delete and format all partitions until you have just one big empty disk.
If that doesn't work or if you think it might not, just boot into a Puppy Linux live cd, open up gparted and select the 'new partition table' tool.

Hello all, I tried as best I could to search on this and saw a few similar threads but still cant get this to work right.

As the tittle says, I have a HP desktop that came with Vista, I partitioned my C drive (which already had a small partition from HP for the recovery stuff labeled D and made a "S" drive for the Win7 install.

I installed the copy of Win7 i made from the official ISO from MS and it works ok as long as the DVD is still in the drive...it asks to press any key to boot from cd or DVD, I leave it alone then my option screen comes up and I can pick from either vista or win7 just fine. If the DVD is NOT in the drive then the options I have are either vista or "Windows Setup" and in that case I get

File: \$WINDOWS..~BT\Windows\System32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000f
selected entry couuld not be loaded cuz missing or corrupt

I tried to do the automatic reapair in the WIN7 installer and sometimes it would come up as finding an error and says it fixed but most of the time it says there is nothing wrong.

Here is what I get from EasyBCD

I have Sophos Anti-virus and firewall, disabling the firewall makes no difference (windows firewall already disabled).

I cannot see the wireless printer in the 'network discovery' but it shows up when I need to print and prints just fine.

I have a Kensington Trackball (Expert Mouse) model 64217, which is the old grey 4 button billiard ball style trackball and which is far and away my preferred mouse device (it?s been around since Windows XP days). Kensington got considerable grief (and rightly so in my opinion) when Vista came out for not providing driver support for this mouse in Vista.

I was fortunate in being able to find a version of Kensington Mouseworks (6.2.2) which installed under Vista and supports my Trackball perfectly...even though Kensington provides no direct support for it under Vista. It provides driver support for not only the Trackball but about 50 or so other mouse devices. My Vista system is Vista Home Premium SP2, 32 bit and I must have been fortunate in finding a combination of Vista levels and Mouseworks driver that still supports my Trackball perfectly under Vista (even though many others have not been able to get their older Trackballs to operate under Vista).

My problem now is that I am migrating my computers from Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit but have been unable to complete this change because Mouseworks 6.2.2 will no longer work properly for me under Windows 7. It simply does not provide the support for the various button programming, etc. that it did under my Vista system. In other words, the problem others were experiencing when moving to Vista is now showing up for me when moving to Win 7.

I figured that I would be able to solve this problem... Read more

Maybe you should be using Kensington Trackballworks instead of Mouseworks?

http://accoblobstorageus.blob.core.w...84f0462b50.exe

The above is a download link from here:

Software & Drivers - Kensington

It's the first one listed.

I had some issues with freeze-ups at work and they gave me a link to a newer version than they had listed on their site, but I think this one is probably the latest one since it was posted last month.

I realize that you don't have the same trackball that I do, and that this may not work, but I would give it a try at the very least. Mine is a 4-button trackball and it has a scroll ring around the ball.

Hope it works for you, but you won't know until you give it a try.

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, and I've been unable to solve this problem. Perhaps someone out there can provide some guidance.

Sometimes, I'm unable to print things (such as online coupons) because I'm told that my printer is set to "Keep Printed Documents." I've tried disabling this setting via the Advanced tab under the printer's properties. However, when I do this, click Apply then OK, and close the tab, the setting automatically reverts back to "Keep Printed Documents". Does anyone know why this is happening? It's sort of frustrating to not be able to set the printer settings the way you choose.

I appreciate any tips/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

The problem I am having is that when I go to print tax return forms from the IRS site or New York Tax Dept site, the form prints "short", that is, the last four or five lines of each page do not print.

You cannot save the data in these forms, they will only save as a blank form. Your only option is to print it.

However, although Adobe tells how to cure this problem ( by clicking File-Print and going down the menu which comes up to "printer scaling", then chosing "print to fit page", this only works if there is a
FILE menu on the left hand side of the page.

In these tax sites, the forms do not have a tool bar above allowing you to chose a FILE menu.
You can right click the mouse and chose PRINT, however it will print a cut off page.

SOOOOOOO ..how do I either:
1. Get a standard Tool Bar to appear on top of the form, on these web site pages, or
2. use some other device or method to print these documents to fit the page.

If any of you are about to suggest right clicking on the printer icon PRINTERS, in the control panel, forget it....my printer does not bring up anything about "Print Scaling".

Hopefully, some geek out there will read this and solve my problem. Thank you. 44 Guy

A:printed pages cut off at bottom

Every computerized tax form that I have seen...is available at the website of the sponsoring governmental agency...and reflects a printed version option which has resulted in everything being printed properly.

I'm not sure where Adobe figures into tax preparation.

If you are using a 3d-party app to do taxes...then the problem resides with the support for that application, IMO.

I'm new here!

First I would like to say I'm a TBI survivor and I'm a male and 42 years old .
I was purchased an emachine computer with a Lexmark lasar printer,
Whenever I go to print something, be it a web site article or a personal document that was created using Microsoft Works Word Processor. Whatever is being printed my name appears at the VERY top and the city and state printed at the bottom.
I know little about computers so I'm trying to get an answer why this is being printed.
The only thing that I can come up with is MY NAME, CITY and STATE was somehow entered on this computer's Hard drive and is prints it because it's been entered by someone at the store before iyt was brought home and set up for me.

If there is someway that I can delete this info. being printed, PLESE tell me what to do EXACTLY!

Thank You!
Chaz-62

A:I'm new her! Why is my name, town and state being printed?

That's very strange, it sounds like a 'Header and Footer' has been set up with that info and is in your normal.dot template. (If Works uses such a template, I know Word does).
Try doing a Find (or Search depending on your version of Windows) for normal.dot and rename any found to normal.old. Then test the printing again. If there is a problem you change the names back again.

I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve paper...it'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

hello all,
Im using access 2010 and there is a print of a report like a certificate whenever needed. My office is requesting me to provide a report of all certificate printed including the date and to whom .
my only way to do this is to force users to enter a field print (yes/no) and from there the query "yes" and the report be printed.
Is there any way to do this without forcing the user to enter the yes/no. field.
Thanks

Don't print much multi page output, so am NOT sure when this problem began.

Originally, the pages on my HP DJ855C were printed as expected: page-1 first, then page-2, etc; this resulted with page-1 being on the bottom of the stack. Depending on the application being used, there was often a Print-Order option available for Back-to-Front printing so that the last page would be printed first and then page-1 would be printed last and be on the top in the stacker.

NOW, things seem to have reversed:
If I do NOT ask for the Back-to-Front, then I seem to get it anyway (i.e., page-1 last and on the top). but if I want the original order (i.e., page-1 first and on the bottom) then I must use the Back-to-Front option.
It seems as though the default has become Back-to-Front and then selecting the option for Back-to-Front re-reverses the order and the result is Front-to-Back.

Possibly this reversal happened when I went to Win/XP; possibly it happened with the installation of some piece of software.

Q. Has anyone else had this exxperience?

Please tell me where I might change some parameter to make the option of Front-to-Back actually print the page-1 first like it did originally?

Any advice apprecaited.

Thanks,,

A:Order of Pages Printed

Digger,

Go into your printers and faxes options off of your start menu.

Select your printer, right click the mouse and click on printing preferences.
On the features tab at the bottom there is a option for start printing from last page. If there is a check mark in the box next to it, click there with the mouse and uncheck it and then click on apply and ok and you should be all set after that?

I am unable to print pictures completely. I print them from Picasa on HP photosmart C4250. When I try to print, although the preview is correct, the printed result is not. Part of a picture will come out, or the image starts at the end of the paper and is therefore incomplete. Until now, everything worked properly.

First, I am NOT part of the "install from scratch" crowd. I have a LOT of application software and development tools and it takes me literally DAYS to install, configure and tweak my development machine.

Config - Lenovo ThinkPad W500 w/500GB Seagate Momentus drives internally and in bay caddy, space is not a problem.

What I have - Dual boot Vista Ultimate x64 SP2 OEM on 396GB primary, active system partition with Win7 RC (build 7100) on 70GB boot/page file/crash dump/primary partition with AppData under Win7 pointing to Libraries/My Documents data back on the Vista partition. I have media for the Vista Ultimate.

What I've bought - Win7 Pro Upgrade.

What I want to do - In place upgrade of either Vista or Win7 RC to Win7 Pro x64 and NOT re-install my applications.

Can it be done? I know my first problem is for both OS's I'm downgrading from Ultimate to Pro, but I really don't have the time, desire or inclination to spend 2-3 days heads down re-installing all my software.

Ideally I would like to keep the dual boot (I've had Win7 RC flake out one me once and it was painful) and do the in-place upgrade on the Win7 RC partition. I'm thinking the cversion.ini trick on the Win7 partition may work, but if it has to be the Vista partition so be it.

Any advice appreciated in advance.

A:Vista Ult x64 SP2 or Win7 Ult x64 RC to Win7 Pro x64

Doing a upgrade with Vista could be a problem for you. Now if you install Win 7 over Vista, 7 will setup a folder "Windows.old" this folder will contain all your user data from the Vista install. Now for the problem, you would need to reinstall all your applications. The reason the new OS isn't going to move the old .ini files over to the new OS. Hope this helps.

Oh, BTW, Welcome to the "Seven Forums."

Fill color isn't displayed during normal viewing of a worksheet. When the worksheet is printed or print-previewed, the colors are visible.

Re-installed Excel, problem persists.

Go to your control panel and double click on Accessibility Options.
Click on the Display tabsheet and uncheck "Use High Contrast" then press OK to close that window. You should now be able to see color in your view mode.

Each work order is assigned with an auto field No. I have a commend button assigned to print each record in a report format. On clicking command button, i enter the record number to be printed and it previews the report and check for accuracy of data entered. Once checked, i click on the print icon to print the same.

My question is, is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now is already printed before? A kind of record keeping of the printed records. Also, the same method shall help me to find out how many times each record is printed?

Hope someone can help me

I have had my problem for some time and had a work around which is no longer applicable hence I get a white screen where message should be so I don't know what is being said.

My problem started about 6 or 8 months ago on Outlook Express. At that time I was using dial up and changed over to Earthlink.net with their e mail program Total Access. My problem immediately disappeared. One month ago I switched over to High Speed and the person doing the custom install saw I used Outlook Express so he reenergized (non computer word) the program. The custom installer saw my INBOX with about 30+ messages that go back a long way. EACH ONE LINE description was complete, meaning To: xxx,
From: YYY, Subject: ZZZ, and anything else that showns on the ONE LINE.

When I double click on one of the inbox messages I FIND MY PROBLEM! Everything that showed before is shown again, but now greyed out since it has to do with basics. HOWEVER, the text area (where the message should be) is 100% pure white. I have double clicked all 30+ messages and get the same thing,...a pure white screen.

I thought it might have something to do with installing SP-2 on my XP Home Edition BUT SP-2 was installed about 6 months ago and my e mail problem started about 8 months ago.
That is my problem! Can anyone offer suggestions?

A:No Outlook Express Messages Are Printed

Hi George-2

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

So if I understand correctly, you can send and receive emails ok.

The problem lies in that the messages you receive are blank inside?

If you run your mouse over the inside of the message, does anything show up in the highlighted/selected area?

Perhaps your fonts have a white color?

Are you able to create a new message and see the fonts inside?

Let us know.

I've spent the last four hours trying to solve this/use info that's similar to my problem to no avail. I feel I'm so close I can smell the answer is near!

I have a form I use for work that I manually have to fill in 50 times a day with mostly the same information. This is definitely a job for a computer!

Ideally, I would like to open the spreadsheet and have a button that says 'Print' and it will print what I need - 50 forms with the right information.

So far I have done the following:

Created a custom page size (16cm x 14.7cm)
Scanned an original to use as a background so I can line up the information
Adjusted the Excel boxes to print the info in the right place.

Now I need to print the following number ranges as identifiers:

1 - 22, 29-42 and 51-54

I feel I'm close with using this macro:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforePrint(Cancel As Boolean)
[copy] = [copy] + 1
End Sub

I use both Excel 2003 and 2007, depending on where I am!

I have NO experience of macros until today, so any advice is very welcome.

Regardsm

Jeff.

Run the following:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system (32 bit or 64 bit). If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Anything I print off the web or email says "Network + Job Functions" at the top of the page and the date at the bottom. Sure, I've been to websites pertaining to the job functions but I never saved anything with that name. How can it be printing at the top of any page?
If I print a document that I made and saved from Wordpad, not anything from the net, it prints fine with no header. I looked at the printer settings dialog box and it shows nothing with this title.
Thanks, Jim

If you are using IE, at the top of the page click on file and page setup and see what you have under header and footer. You probably need to change those.

A:Printer deletes documents before they are printed

G'day steviejay, sounds like you have an intelligent printer that is censoring your output!
That is a worry, I haven't seen that problem previously.
You might try having a look in your control panel, system, devices or device manager, with a bit of luck when you scroll down through all your devices you will find a USB printer, (assuming yours is usb) if you open that item you should see something like "this devise is working properly" which is a good start for troubleshooting.
There should be no yellow exclamation marks on this item.
Are you quite sure your print queue in the print manager is being actually deleted?
What kind of printer is it?
The assumption is that it is a PC using a windows variant.
Cheers, qldit.

Hi

I suspect this might be a fairly common problem. Whenever I print there also seems to be a block of about 5 fine lines printed over the text for about ever new line of text. Now I recently bought a new (high capacity) cartridge which costs a fortune, so I'm not too keen to buy another if it is the printer (about 6 years old) which is the problem.

Has anyone else had the same sort of problem?

I have a problem with my Word documents. When I try to print them, the right edge is cut off. I thought it was my computer or my printer, so I took it to another computer, and the same thing happened.

The problem is in the files themselves. How do I change the files so they function as they used to? This has been the case with more than 20 files, which were made at different times.

My computer used to warn that the form I was using was too wide, and ask did I want to go ahead. I would select yes, it would print, and would look just fine. Now it does not ask that question.

Incidentally, another problem is that my files no longer end with .doc, but now say .rtf. All of my Word files changed in several ways at once.

Problem: Green Cast on Images being printed
Editor - Elements Version 7 & Windows default viewer

Colour Management:- every variation tried

My Neighbour has a Epsom R285 http://www.epson.co.uk/Store/Printers-and-All-in-Ones/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R285 printer, his had it a few years.
I have recently changed his PC to a Windows 7 desktop and installed all the drivers. The Printer worked fine, but yesterday he was getting a green colour cast on all images
I checked the head alignment, nozzle set-up and cleaned the heads
Checked with windows default viewer, and printing from that application - same problem
Checked all the Colour Management, ICC, settings etc - tried without Management, sRGB, adobe 1998 etc, checked colour management on printer and elements

The image looks fine on the screen , I have emailed a sample image and on my setup it prints fine

The next step was to try the printer on my laptop
any other ideas - this is usually a colour management issue and i have fixed quite quickly in the past on other systems - so I suspect I'm missing something obvious now

I doubt that I can post this question here but I assume it'll be removed if not.

I have an HP printer, 2540, wireless printer. Works fine.

I started to print a pdf file. Because it was a large file I choose the 'booklet' option, which prints 4 pages on one side, then, when everything of the even numbers (I think, not sure) has printed, you will get a message on the pc telling you how to replace the already printed pages in the printer so it can print on the backsides.

When I saw the first batch I decided I didn't like it. So when the message with instructions on how to replace the already printed paper, I went in the printer's menu, highlighted the name of the document and did 'cancel'. In this printer menu it now said it was 'deleting' the document. But it didn't. I waited about half an hour. I turned the printer off and back on. I closed the document. But still the printer menu said 'deleting'.

I opened the document up again, changed the settings for the printer (as in one sided, normal size) and accidentally hit 'print'. I then noticed that - in the printer menu - the 'new' document showed up above the one that still said it was deleting. But it still didn't print. I went in the print menu again and highlighted the new document and did 'cancel' and it did cancel it.

But the old document is still sitting there, 'deleting'. I can not get past that. Any suggestions wo... Read more

A:Cannot delete partly printed document from cue

There's a way to force these to delete, if you don't mind a little typing. You need to open a command prompt by running cmd.exe. If you're unsure of how to do that, tell me which operating system you're using and I can walk you through that. This should open up a black window, and you need to type in the following commands sequentially, hitting the Enter key after each command.
net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\* /q /f /s

net start spooler
The first command stops the printing service, allowing you to carry out the second command, which deletes any jobs in the queue. The last command re-starts the printing service, and you can try running a test print. Once that's all done, you can just close the black window.
