Is this possiable aha
I guess that would depend on what "parts" you're talking about.2 more replies
Hello thanks for the future help, but my Vaio Wont Boot up past microsoft Corp page, It just shows the Green loading bar for a good 5 to 10 mins then goes to back to the windows error recovery screen an say Windows has failed to start because of a recent software or hardeware change... im thinkin i burned it out playing Wow on it aha, meaning i need a new fan or harddrive or motherboard im not forsure what it could be, but i would like to find out what the exact problem is to fix it, Plus it is making a new sound.
Best way to describe this sound as a fan messin up on an exact tick leading me to belive it is the fan or harddrive
Does the laptop seem to get hot, as in really hot?
Do you have a Windows Installation CD for it or did it come preinstalled?
I have two issues that I hope you can assist me with. The first paragraph below is for the first issue. The second paragraph below is for the second issue. I appreciate any assistance you could provide.
On 4/2/2016, I placed an order for a new display back cover and a set of hinges in the HP Parts Store. My HP [personal information removed]. Total order cost = $233.91 in US dollars. I paid for the parts already via credit card and the parts were delivered to me. A friend of mine repairs laptops as a full time occupation. She was planning to help me repair the broken laptop hinge and replace the back cover so part of the replacement hinge would be protected when I transport the computer. Unfortunately, my friend found out that her sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer after I received the parts from the HP Parts Store. My friend has been spending lots of time caring for her ill sister and her elderly parents in their 80s. She is unable to help me repair the right hinge and back cover of my laptop. The parts have not been touched and they are still in the boxes. I would like to return the parts and receive a credit applied to my charge account; however the HP return policy states that parts must be returned in 14 days. The HP Parts Store also charges a restocking fee. Can you assist with this return transaction? I would prefer to not pay the restocking fee.

So I'm planning on building my new PC and have found a list of all of the parts that I would like to purchase. This will be my first build and wanted to check that A) all these parts are compatible and B) that these are the best parts I can get for the money.
To clarify I will be using the PC for mainly gaming and Photoshop/other design work. The prices below are the best prices I could find online too. (Budget is about £600)
Tower - Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - £82.99
Power Supply - Corsair 500 Watt CX500 V2 Builder Series 80 Plus Power Supply - £44.98
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K - £166.97
Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 - £100.00
RAM - Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB - £24.49
Graphics card - Sapphire RADEON HD 6850 - £118.40
Hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB - £61
Think this all I will need (apart from a disc drive) any other hidden costs/ parts that I am missing out too?

Before you throw out your old, dead hard drives, dismantle them and recover the magnets inside.
Some of the most powerful magnets known to man are inside.
A couple of cute little motors too, but they don't like to come out easily.
I agree, just don't put the magnets together with your fingers in the middle of them !
The Sony Vaio VGN FE21H io have seems to have has a faulty lid switch which is causing the inverter to power off the LCD baklight. If i shine a torch into the screen i can see the faint outline of the OS, Win XP. The switch is magnetic, so if i run a magnet along the top of the keyboard the display comes on for a couple of seconds.
I have opened the laptop and looked at the motherboard, the switch is built into the boad and is un-connectable. I have also tried changing the windows power settings i.e. when lid is closed to nothing, uninstalled the video card driver, to no avail. The BIOS setting are fairly meagre and don't have any options in relation to power settings.
Is there any way from Windows to prevent the laptop going into sleep mode once the lid is closed. The option on the power settings seems ideal but it doesn't seem to function properly.
Any advice is much appreciated.
I was using my Sony Vaio laptop (FE series I think...at least 5 yrs old) on Skype with family when the laptop crashed. I pressed the on/off button to switch off the laptop and reboot but there was no response when the laptop was trying to power up. The on-off button lights up, the 3 caps lock/scroll lock, etc lights switch on and remain on, but nothing appears on screen and nothing furter appears to happen.
I've left the laptop on charge for a couple of days and retried, same outcome. I've tried starting from the power cable and no battery, same outcome.
Do you have any ideas to as to what might have happened and how I can fix it? Would my hard-drive be corrupting thus losing all the data stored? How would I be able to hook the hard-drive up to another machine and copy off all the data?
Hello, it looks like there is something wrong with your screen, but is it always just black even from starting? Because on start you could enter recovery mode and start the laptop in safe mode, but if it's impossible to do so, then you can try to connect your laptop to external PC if you have one. Then you will see what's going on and figure out is it a screen problem or the whole system is messed up. Good luck!
Usually, my sony vaio z will just automatically use the graphics card in the media dock when I plug it in but now when I plug it in I can use all the ports and stuff but I can still see in advanced screen resolution settings that it's using the integrated Intel graphics.More replies
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N130g with Windows XP. I know its old, but I use it as a secondary computer... When I flip the wireless switch on the side to "on" the WLAN light in front does not turn on and when I do to choose a wireless network it says no wireless netowrks were found in range. I know this is not true because I am connected to the wireless network with my other computer in order to post this message.
Is my computer toast? Please help. Thanks!
The computer is not toast, but the wireless adapter may be.
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? Under Network Adapters is your WiFi adapter listed there? Download the WiFi adapter driver for your computer. Sony eSupport - VGN-N130G - Drivers & Software
If this still fails, power down the computer, remove the power adapter and battery. Turn it face down and remove the plate that hides the RAM and Wireless card, make sure the antennae wires are both connected. If so, then this card may need to be replaced.
This is for a laptop for work. It's model VGNSR590GIB. The authentic stickers on the bottom say it's running Windows 7 Pro OA, but the System info section says it's XP Pro version 2002 SP3.
I'm trying to figure/find out how to assign functions to the switch buttons on top of the keyboard. When I go to the Vaio Control Center, and select Keyboard, the only thing there is for speed and general description of the keyboard and it's driver.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I need to find a parts supplier in the USA for palm Sony. I found some but are very expensive. We need this info to set a small repair shop.
Thanks for the info
I would think that you will need to go to SONY on that one. They should be able to tell you who distributes their parts.
So, decided I should do a little outside the case upgrading. Problem is, since most of my expertise is on case hardware, I have no clue whats good, or where to buy said items im looking for, so hoping someone can help me out.
Parts I'm looking for is new speakers, new mouse/keyboard, and a webcam. I'm looking for something good, reliable and does the job, some fancy perks would be nice, but nothing wallet breaking. I don't wanna spend $1000 on them, but preferably less then say ooh $300-$400 max, any less and it be better.. The ones I have now, are your basic Walmart bottom barrel ones, they work, but my mouse is already going out and my speakers sound like they're on the way out as well. So any advice, on what kind, where to buy online, so on and so forth would be greatly appreciated.
Are you looking to upgrade to gaming equipment ( speakers, keyboard and mouse ) ?? if so then I'd recommend not to be so cheap as it will pay off in the long run.
Ok so I am building my own computer and need to know if the parts I have selected are compatible and good, quality parts. The parts I picked are:
GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Also, if there are any parts I am missing please tell me. Thanks.

I bought a Mobo/CPU/DDR Combo that I saw working on the shop bench after exchanging the initial board because it wouldn't boot or show video. But since I've had the rig at home, its been one headache after the next.
Here's what I got:
Mobo = ECS 848P
CPU = Intel SL7PM (BX80546PG3000ESL7PM)
DDR = PQI MD4412UOE (DDR400/512)
Now the ECS boots but the BIOS always hangs after I press Y at the Save to CMOS prompt (but stores the settings), so I've replaced ECS with Intel's D875P8Z rev 205. I got the Intel board out of spite for the ECS but now I'm back to the first problem, no boot/no video. This time I think the CPU and Mobo don't match but the info I get HERE and HERE lists a CPU called 3E (not Etreme) that has the same 800MHz/1MB spec as the SL7PM.
Do I have the right parts?
With the Intel combo, everything powers on but no POST (I think). There are no beeps but the light on the keyboard flash random patterns. Could there be a special P4 step I'm missing when installing?
The power-on-but-no-post symptom could be remedied by powering the barebone up outside of the case. It could be a shorting somewhere.
Updating the BIOS of your new board may correct the wrong CPU read-out.
Sent my IBuypower PC in when it wouldn't boot. They told me the motherboard, video card and liquid cooling system all dead. Around $500 just for parts. Machine cost $1200 and is 2 years 8 months old.
2 issues is smarter to a whole new machine or rebuild with oem parts. Their service was horrible so I'll have to do the rebuild.
Also can I place the hard drives from this machine into an external case and still run the programs and access the data.
I'm a professional photographer and deal with lots of 30-50 mg files at a time.

Not sure if this belongs here.
I've looked around in old boxes and stuff (cardboard) of my dad's and have noticed a whole lot of old parts laying around.
Instead of letting them just sit there getting outdated I want to do something with them, make something. Whatever but have had no ideas.
SO what do you people do with old parts?
If they're usuable like CD-ROMs, floppy drives, hard drives - recycle them in new builds. Even older, lower capacity hard drives can be used as external drives with a USB to IDE adapter.
If not, sell 'em on ebay. That's what I do.
I used to run a computer salvage business years ago.

So im trying to get a new graphics card to Game on. The other components of my computer meet the reccomended requirements. But my graphics card is just too weak and i cant seem to find a graphics card that would be compatable AND fit in my tower to replace my current one The current one is a GT 520 i need at least a Gtx 660 to run the games i'd like to play Something stronger is also fine But if you could possibly help me figure out one that would fit It'd be greatMore replies

Hey everyone. im fairly new to this site, an i;ve been reading other treads an it seemed like a very friendly forum.
I just bought some parts off the internet. an i was wondering if those parts i bought were the right ones an would install perfect.

Ultra X-Wind Aluminum Socket K8/AM2 CPU Cooling Fan
XFX GeForce 9600 GSO Video Card - 768MB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready
I just want to know if im on the right track.
i also bought this tower
Ultra X-Blaster Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Front USB, FireWire and Audio Ports
I'd appreciate your feedback an opinions.
thanks a whole lot
All this should go together fine. Good luck
PSU, Mobo and Case must be ATX
Type of RAM module must be supported by mobo
FSB of RAM and CPU shouldn't be higher than mobo's FSB
CPU socket type must match that of the motherboard...
graphics card you want must also be able to be used on the motherboard (PCI-E or AGP, etc)
mobo and PSU have same number of pins (for mobo power socket)
Is this all right, or am I missing something else? Thanks!

Recently I've been doing some upgrading to my 3 year old desktop computer. Went from 750gb Harddrive to 1tb...Switched out graphic card Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512mb for Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 1gb
I'm interested in replacing the motherboard, processor, and adding more memory. I don't want to do all this at the same time so initially what I get would have to be an upgrade but would still have to be compatible with what I have currently.
Would like to have 8gb memory, & faster processor by the end of it...
Firstly though would like to replace the motherboard (it's older and I've been having problems that might be associated with it). I have a HP Pavillion m9200t so whatever motherboard that would fit that case is what I'm looking for. Has to be able to hold 8gb of memory DDR2 800ghz. My video card is a PCI-e so would need a slot for that...and at the very least 4 x usb. I have windows vista 64-bit home prem and have had no problems with this os and probably going to keep it as appose to buying windows 7.
I've noticed that you can buy motherboards as a separate or bundled with CPU. With that in mind I'm thinking I should get a bundled package??? I'm looking to get something that will work good, last awhile (another 3 years or more???) but isn't extremely expensive or too top of the line. I heard ASUS was a good brand.
I have to say I've switched out parts on desktops like harddrive, memory, videocard, cd drive, power ... Read more

Power supply= http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=11879&GroupID=509
I think this is pretty good. What do you think? Also what is the difference between the socket 939 AMD and The AMD AM2.
Without those parts, your computer will not function.
I've recently acquired a bunch of old motherboards, RAM and modem components, and I want to be able to do something cool with them as a little project but this is my first venture into anything like this - I'm fine with investing money into this as well.
Thought these were interesting in their own way.

Hi everyone, before I ask for some advice on getting new PC parts I know I have posted before about getting a new PC and picking out parts but I don't have the cash so I just need to use what I got :P.
First I have a AMD Rig its ok specs right now.
AMD Ghost 7850 GPU
ASUS Motherboard some crappy one
and a WD hard drive.
A really bad bad 500w PSU
I would like to get an Intel CPU a i5 maybe but I need a good
4) I am going to pick out a water cooler.
I am going to get a new hard drive with this and a new windows etc...
Could anyone sugest a good
also will I be able to use my AMD GPU with the intel cpu?
thanks for reading,
Good news first, yes you'll be able to use your Radeon 7850 in a Intel rig.
What make you think you'll need a new PSU?
Ok I was thinking about buliding a low-end computer just for Internet use for my father. I already have a mointer, keyboard, mouse, speakers, cd-rw drive, 250w p/s. I dont want a floppy drive in it. And the motherboard doesnt have to have intergrated ethernet becuase I also have an pci ethernet card. I dont want a dial-up modem in it either.
So basicly what recommendation for a case, motherboard and cpu. Also the motherboard has to have intergrated sound and video. I am guessing a celeron cpu? Also what ram should I get in terms of how many mb or gb's. Is 256mb of ram enough?
Thank you very much techspot members
Also yeah I got 40gb harddrive and windows xp home too so I dont need that
I am looking for spring loaded push lock fasteners that are used to secure heatsinks and coolers to video cards, chipsets, etc. I am familiar with the following items, but I prefer straight spring loaded pins without the bow.
I am familiar with everything located here;
I know I can secure the coolers with thermal adhesive so you don't have to recommend that since I have plenty of thermal adhesive.
If you happen to be familiar with a company that stocks the pins without a bow, if you would post a link to the website it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a Dell Latitude 13 (7350) and bought a battery for the keyboard. The battery does not fit because of the counterweight. I have to build a computer for my CMT school project, though I've decided to upgrade my current one, (seen in my sig), and use the old parts to rebuild the new computer for my mom. Now, if you look at my specs, you'll notice that I have an 8800GTS with 1GB of RAM, but an Athlon 64+ 3000. Yes, I know it's a huge bottleneck. I upgraded my videocard, powersupply, and hard drive last year, so I will not be needing to replace those for the rebuild. To upgrade, I need a new motherboard, RAM, and processor.
That will leave me with my old videocard (6600GT), old powersupply (350W I think), old hard drive, current motherboard, ram and processor to build a new computer for my mom. I will need to buy a new case and CD/DVD drives to finish it off.
So in short:
I need a new motherboard, processor, and RAM for my current computer (in sig), and then a new case and CD/DVD drives for this computer:
Athlon 64+ 3000
Chaintech NForce4 Ultra ATX Motheboard
350Watt Antec powersupply
In total, I don't really want to spend more than $300. I plan on buying a bit later, maybe in November, so I'll be checking again before I buy to be sure I'm getting the most efficient deals. I plan on ordering from Newegg.
If this doesn't make any sense then please tell me and I'll try to reword it.
EDIT: I guess you have to view my profile to see my sig, so to make it easier I'll post my specs here:

Right Now IM having troubles with a right PSU.. I've been looking at a 700Watts, but Is that enough?
The Harddrive im looking at is a Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM
And I have one last question about Ram.
The mother is 800 mHz Min, for Ram. Should I get 1000? Or just stick with 800 Mhz at 3 Gb?
Please someone Help..
Quality of power supply is much more important than Watts... Tell us more...
Quality of memory and brand are also important... as performance varies greatly from Value Ram to high end gamer ram.
Most of your configuration looks fine...
How old is all this great equipment?
i need some advice on which motherboard to buy. i want to build a gaming pc capable of playing the top games for the next few years(if possible). whats the best motherboard to get: the asus m2n sli deluxe socket am2 nvidia nforce 570 sli mcp atx amd, or, would i be better getting a good socket 939 board? i plan on getting an amd athlon 64 x2 4600+ windsor 2000MHz ht 2x512kb l2 cache socket am2 dual core cpu. would this cpu + the am2 mobo let me play top games on the highest detail settings if i bought 2xnvidia geforce 7600gt's? i would appreciate some help on this. THANK YOU

your going to need an AM2 not s939 mobo if you want to get the 4600+ winsor
second for the price of 2 7600 you can problby get an x 1900xt or a 7900 whitch will exide or match the preforumace of that sli
I'm a teacher and over the years I've collected a few videos and DVD's that I use in my teaching. I would like to be able to create a DVD consisting of excerpts from these DVD's and videos so that they would be easily accesible.
I have a DVD burner, but I know nothing about this area; about copyright issues, if I can burn parts of the DVD as opposed to just copying, etc.
I would appreciate being educated on this- thanks!

By using defraggler, i recently found out that the page file on my os disk is split into two parts. I wonder if this may impact system performance and if so, if there is a fix. The file is 1.5 gb.
Not sure at all...what you mean.
Are you talking physical location on the hard drive...or are you referring to two locations for "pagefile" on the hard drive when looking via Explorer?
All files...may not necessarily be in one contiguous location...that's what fragmentation is.
I got all my parts in the mail yesterday and started to put them together last night. I'm having trouble knowing which cables go where though. Some of them seemed obvious and have the parts in the case but it still does not turn on. There's still a few cables from my power supply I haven't plugged into anything but I can't seem to find a spot to put them into. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Most connections are oblivious as you said and you will have spare cables from the psu etc. Other than that maybe some pics would help us..

Hi I was looking to upgrade the power supply and video card in my computer. I was wondering if the graphics card EVGA - GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card could replace the AMD Radeon HD 7400 thats already in my computer. And for power supply what one would be compatible for this card and motherboard. (model number h8-1234)More replies

I've finally decided to get a new computer. I want to game on it, so I was originally going to go with an Alienware, but they seem kind of overpriced to me. I thought it'd be cheaper if I built one myself, and I'd learn things too.
So, if I have a budget of about $2000, what's the best system I can make? I don't know anything about recent advances in hardware, so I don't know what processor or video card or RAM or what-have-you is the new standard of awesome.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions

What's a good program to split a PDF file?
For example, I have a 100 page file, but only really need pages 65 - 90, how do I save these pages separately?
1) You can do it quite easily in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Use the "Document-> Extract Pages..." menu item. Then Drag and drop pages into another document from the "Pages" navigation tab.
2) There are many, many 3rd party products for splitting PDFs. Just do a web search on "Split PDF".

I am planning to try a build in a little while but I don't know many places in the UK where I can obtain the hardware and items needed for building myself.
So are there some of the UK members that could please advise me of places to buy the gear and at reasonable prices?

I have various parts of a computer that I want to strip out and take to the USA to install in a system over there. These are Hard Drives, CD Rom, and an MB with Cpu/mem etc. Would all of these be compatible with the American power supply and fit a standard case over there also?
depending on who made the power supply you can take the whole thing. on the back near the plug there might be a orange switch says 230 slide it to 115 and you are set. if you really want to strip down a pc and use the parts here no problem.
I am building a new system and I am deliberating over a couple of components.
I was wondering whether to go for this Leadtek graphics card:
or this Inno one:
They are both 8800gts I am just wondering which one is better and what warranty I will get on each of them.
Also, I am thinking of getting this cooler:
but I am also thinking about this one:
I may wish to do some overclocking so I am not sure which one I should get.
Also, I am getting this case and PSU:
However, I have been advised to possibly get this PSU but I am not sure:
I would just like some thoughts on these because once I have decided, I can then go ahead and buy the parts to build my new system.
Thanks for any advice it is much appreciated.
I'd get the Leadtek card. I've never heard of that other brand, but Leadtek has a pretty good reputation. Plus it's 10 cheaper.
As for CPU coolers, I'd choose the AC cooler. The Freezers are really good.
That case comes with a decent PSU. Coolermaster makes good stuff. Technically the Corsair is a slightly better unit, but I don't think you'll be gaining THAT much by spending the money you don't have to.
Looking for some place to buy old laser printer parts.
I have a Canon GP200 that I need a new controller board for.
can anyone help?
The cheapest thing to do is to buy a new printer. You buy a decent inkjet for under $100. It saves you the trouble of finding and replacing the part
Also, odds are pretty good that a new printer will be of better quality
are the memory sticks from a cq56 and cq 62 compatible and also are the hard drives and fan compatible
hard drives yes definitely but that does not mean you can pull a hard drive from one and just put in another and boot...I just mean they use the same form factor. To say anything else about compatibility we would need to know the full model number of the 2 units...some are AMD some Intel so at a minimum that would be a barrier to interoperability of the fan units.1 more replies
i need to build a new computer for using to play poker online. these are the parts i have selected already. i have a ssd already which i can use in it. will the system work without getting a video or sound card? i'm not going to be playing games. the poker software works the processor and the ram. also do i need at least one of "wired network adapter or wireless network adapter" to get internet access? i understand i need a cooler for the i7-6700 as it doesn't come with one. is this correct? could i get a cheaper one if i'm not going to be overclocking too high? not sure if i need to order case fans etc either. i have a win 8.1 cd to use. some help with getting this order right would be v helpful. want to try to get the price down and not order anything i don't need . don't want to forget anything either as i need to get it built asap. thanks in advance
When I go to certain sites in IE8 I get a message that tells me that there are secure and insecure portions of the site and asks "do you want to display only the secure items?" This question, the way it is worded, requires a "no" answer. It requires a bit more than normal concentration because one expects the question to be "do you want to display the insecure items", as we have been doing for the past 20 or so years prior to IE8. I would really like to totally disable this warning because it is now quite confusing in the way it is worded and also because I have NEVER decided not to go to a site as a result of this warning.
Is there any way to disable this "secure and insecure items" warning in IE8?

am i in for a smooth ride or do i need a good map?
Pretty hot machine. It should be okm its a good motherboard that will be able to cope with 1GB of ram. FSB should be 133mhz not 266mhz because it is double data rate which a lot of ppl get wrong. PCI should be 32bit and if you have 64 bit ones then it will be 64bit. AGP settings should be left to default but with all you memory you could set the AGP apature size to 256MB and the you would have 768MB system memory which is loads enuf and mega good graphics with 265mb of memory. Tell me how much you paid for that cos it seems like a lot
I?m doing a school project with a couple of other 6th formers, its a kind of 'challenge week' that our schools running, and were running a modding shop were we basically take an older PC and try and do it up as much as possible so its of some use today, on a very limited budget (approx. £100). I need to find (preferably) 2 512mb DDR2100 sticks of ram and the budget is too small to purchase them from a shop when other expenses are taken into account so I was wondering if anyone has any idea's on where to get older parts (already raided our I.C.T stock cupboard, they gave us a 17 inch CRT which is quite nice of them ). Plus ideally (but not necessary) we could do with a faster Athlon XP than we've currently got, at the mo its running a 1600, we are going to try to run Battlefield 2 on this, after all it is a challenge week, so need to get the 'best' old parts available at our budget level. Of course if anyone has any older parts they don?t need then that would be greatly appreciated, but generally any advice would be great, just kind of wondering whether there?s a dedicated 'old parts' shop online or something I?ve never come across. Finally, if anyone has any idea what the minimum graphics card (AGP) would be to run Battlefield 2 then that would be useful, I know there?s the minimum specs but they often underestimate dramatically from what I've seen.
not shore where you can shop over in europ, i heard www.newegg.com is shippig their soon you can look there for some ram and an agp card ( i recomend you get atleast a ati 9600xt or nvivda 6600 in agp in order to play battlefield 2 without lag.) Your prossor is kind of aging (BF2 requires a 1.8ghz or xp1800+ or better but i got away with runig it on my P4 1.6)
good luck and have fun
Well I'm a noobie and after hours of research, I think I finally have all the parts I need (to play css and hl2 on max). Here it goes:
I'm about 99% sure these are all compatible. My question is, will I be able to run games like CSS on relatively high settings and still be able to use my comp for Flash MX/Photoshop cs2/etc? How do you overclock my processor and what would I need to keep it from overheating? Thanks guys.
I would get an Antec PSU. and 480 Watts would be the starting point.
Okay so I just bought all new parts and put it together, it was working fine for two days although I felt the gpu or something wasn't performing to the standard I was expecting it to perform to. But now something seems to be broken, I have two sticks of ram and I found that one is broken, I put one at a time into my old computer and it would only display with one of them, or both of course. But what happens when I turn my new comp on is that it all starts up all the fans are spinning but it won't display on my monitor, there is no system beeping that I've heard. I think it's the mobo or gpu and somethings wrong with one of them. I have tried resetting the cmos but to no avail, or I believe I did it right anyway. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. I will list my specs below.
Ram: old ram from my old pc 2x4gb patriot viper I believe - one is broke/not working I believe
Gpu: amd msi r9 380 4gb
Motherboard: msi 970 gaming
Cpu: amd fx 8350
Hard drive: seagate barracuda 2TB

what is it please you have not listed the ram
also I presume

working OK for two days tends to suggest something has failed and your mention of the apparent ram problem may indicate failure due to overheat
Have you overclocked the build
My friend is upgrading his PC and i can have his leftovers, he is leaving me with everything except, The CD_ROM drive, Floppy Drive, Modem Card and the Monitor and the harddrive.
How easy would it be to use the parts from my old PC ie the parts above and put them into the new one, would i need the drivers or would they be already recognized. Are there any compatiblity issues.
any sites of how to do this would also be helpfull.

I would love some of your expert advice on my pickings
CPU= i7 4790K
Motherboard= Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 motherboard
I would also like to ask is the h90 a good cooler for the i7 I have picked?
And will this Case Zalman Z11 Plus Midi Tower Gaming Case
work with the Corsair h90 CPU cooler?
I picked out that case as it has 140mm support but on the specs it says = 120mm/140mm Fan Vent just making sure that it will fit
thanks for reading my post
Not so sure the cpu cooler will fit anywhere but the front of the case :/
It's a 140mm and all you have is 120mm fans on the case,
Being the rear I guess is the most likely place for the cpu cooler but these radiators like to be intakes not exhausts but several people have used them as exhausts without issue
I prefer as a intake which would put the rad at the front of the case
The case does look wide enough on the front for a 140mm fan on it but I don't see on Newegg where it states there's enough room ? blue fan is 120mm and blue led,
But the top is the most common location for a radiator,
ZALMAN Z11 Plus Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Newegg.com
So it would seem this cpu cooler would fit in 3 locations being it has 120mm fans
Corsair Hydro Series? H80i GT High Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm - Newegg.com
I have no idea where the 2-80mm fans are located on the case :/
Hi all. the title says it all, I'd like to know good places to buy parts for computers.
Well, I have had excellent parts from all of the following:
& cheap parts from China on eBay (cables, MB add on cards, switches, enclosures, HD Docks, etc)
I just downloaded a game using Bittorrent. I use bittorrent a lot and have never had this problem but all it downloaded were a bunch of file parts (.001, .002 etc.) with 75 parts and a .sfv file. I have no idea what to do with these files, can anyone help me? Thanks.
We can't help you here. We believe that the use of bittorrent clients is to illegally pirate copyrighted files, and it would go against forum rules to assist you.1 more replies

Firstly, I'd like to know what you guys and dolls think of it. That includes stuff like how overclockable it (theoretically) should be, whether I've failed to notice any incompatibilities, and anything else you feel like telling me.
Secondly, if you have any better deals on identical or similar parts, it would save me a fortune if you could tell me. I'm trying to bring it from $488 to anywhere from $400-450. Every little bit helps.
Everything looks quality, if you're happy with the online retailers and can deal with their lack of a face when something goes wrong it looks like the platform should be fine and is enough quality to last you a few years.
The only thing I would tweak is to get a 6420 instead for a little more to take advantage of the 4mb cpu cache.

Hello, rygar_Discrete graphics chip is soldered to the systemboard. So, to upgrade laptop you have to ... replace the systemboard and cooling system, at least. 1155 socket motherboards are cheaper than my present board. ASUS P5N-D
I'm looking at possibly building a Sandy Bridge / 2nd generation I5 set up.
looking at New Egg & TigerDirect it looks like stock cpu coolers now come standard with cpu's
I have a after market cooler---
ASUS Silent Square EVO 92mm Vapo Bearing CPU Cooler which is socket 775.
some websites seem to say that 775 & 1155 use the same mounting bracket hole positions for coolers.
would this cooler handle a 2nd gen I5 ????? its about 6 inches tall and I haven't had any problem out of it.
my sata harddrive is 3mb and I'm looking at a Z68 motherboard which is 6mb so I will need to replace that.
I have a
PNY XLR8 GeForce 8800 GT Video Card - Performance Edition, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, HDCP, Video Card
which I think would work . Z68 mobo says its PCI-E0.2
don't trust old PWS in new build even though its a 850 watt OCZ (4 years old)
would you use any of these old parts in new build
am I crazy in building a 1155 Sandy Bridge instead of jumping to 2001 socket Ivy ?????
I wouldn't use any of the old parts. I would definately go with 1155 not 2011. PSU's look at Seasonic, Corsair, PC Power & Cooling or FSP.
I have picked out most of the parts that I think I would like to use but I am unsure about some of them. I have never built a system from scratch so if I am missing something vital, any input would be very helpful. Well here is what I have picked out so far:
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
Motherboard:ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
GPU:MSI N9800GX2-M2D1G GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB (512MB per GPU)
GPU Cooler: need a suggestion on this one
Power Supply: I am unsure on what size I will need so any input would be helpful
CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core
CPU Cooler:ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail
RAM:OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2RPR10664GK - Retail
Hard Drive:Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
DVD Drive:ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Mod... Read more
I'd recommend the GA-P35-DS3L over the P5K-E, unless you need the WiFi capability of the latter.
Also, the Seagate Barracuda ES.2 is a much better drive than the 7200.11, but is slightly more expensive, so consider it as an alternative if your budget permits.
In addition, for the GPU cooler, there is none available at the moment, so no-go. But the current cooler throws all the hot air out of the case anyways, so it won't heat things up in your case.
Lastly, I recommend this PSU for your system. It's very cheap with the rebate and provides a hefty 52A on a single +12V rail, which is more than enough for your system.
